I lived here years ago and just recently moved back. It really is fabulous. I lived in NY (NYC area) for almost 10 years and enjoyed it for its diversity and great food, but admit to missing the more easy-going friendly nature of people in the PNW.
You can't beat the food in NYC, and I have found that the atmosphere in the city has changed drastically since 9/11.

I can understand that. I don't think I could live in the urban area for 10 years! I am too used to living 75 miles from the nearest town.
I like both city and rural living. Once I win the lotto I'll have an apartment downtown and a homestead in the woods. It's the suburbs that I really dislike.
My husband and I want to go to Alaska in the worst way. The only thing holding us back is time and trying to decide where exactly to go. We want to see and experience it all, but know that we can't in one visit.
I've heard the inside passage cruise is fabulous. I'd like to do that myself one day.

Well I used to be a real stickler about texting.I used to say I would text only if it is an absolute emergency. Now I text all of the time. Oh the wonders of technology these days!
That is so true! As a kid I used to think about the changes my Grandmother saw; from starting out with horse and buggys to seeing a man walk on the moon!
Now-a-days I think about the changes in my own lifetime!
Feel very old when I realize that my students have no idea what a record or a phonograph is or don't know about the rotary phone we used to use not that long ago either.
So true. I grew up with a telephone party line; trying to explain that to a kid is so crazy! (The neighbor boy thinks it would bbs pretty cool to have a party line!)
Or trying to explain why the one toddler pull toy has a rotary dial!

not much trying to get organised for holidays
Yeah; same here. This year my house looks terrible: having a 5year old around has really made a messy house this time around
But little R is cute
He isn't the only messy person; it's the fact that I just don't have any time or energy to get some of the main jobs done while he's here.
The little black kitty was sick so that ate our holiday money
He IS adorable, herin! But very very strong-willed too! And *I* AM his playmate since there aren't any kids on our block anymore.

Kitty is fine. He lost about a kilo and was in the vets for 3 days
When we've been very poor; we'd make coupon books (which were redeemable for things that take time: house cleaning; back massage; etc.)
