not that the def meant anything other than to go for a japanese style ending
People who read Shogun might remember it...
wow K Killed
I read sho-nuff.. probably not the same thing erda
heavens, ruru - that was aeons ago!
i'm giving up early tonight..going to bed. night all
Sleep well, Ru.
Aeons, shmeons -- it was a major bestseller, written in 1975...
sorry -- I don't remember anything I read 40 years ago
*!* ta da *!* -- good night, everyone :-)
good morning all
*smooch* *smooch* sprite my darling.
*hugs rose* Hello dear friend. I missed you by 2 minutes yesterday!
how is rob? any better? you didn't say exactly what was wrong with him.
and how are you now? oh i so wish i was just down the street...
he's got flu, or a very major cold virus. Coughing, sneezing, fever, pain in every muscle, weak as a newborn baby bird.
oh me too! I could really do with an IRL rose hug.
oh I am ok. So far no flu *knocks wood*. And I slept this night. Most of it anyway.
i'd come in, do the laundry, make the beds, do the shopping, get your dinner ready, peel you a grape.
oh no way! You have to be careful with your body, dear friend! I would want you to make us a cuppa, then sit with me and talk and do a hug every now and again just for the heck of it.
Ks killed
did i not mention it would take all day to do it?? time for lots of cuppas and hugs, dear friend.
:D Still too much of a burden. But oh I long for your company!
so, now that we are on the subject... how are you?
it will happen hin. the eldest of my bros was saying to me today, just get those hips fixed ASAP.
sounds good, sweetie. If we can't make it this year, then the next one. Those hips need to be fixed in order to lessen your pain.
don and i took lots of pics today. as soon as i work out how to send them, you all are gonna be inundated .
yessssss :D
but i so wanted to see you....* sigh *
you will. It is all gonna happen. And remember that if travelling turns out to be too much for you, there is always the option of having the mountain travel to Mohammed.
Mozes. Whatever.
we have had the most wonderful day. the weather wasn't too terrific to start, but then it became absolutely spot on.
am so glad, rose :) Glad you got a chance to really enjoy it.
hehehe I think you would hate it here right now. Even though the sun is out, the temps are around freezing point. Literally.
i am thinking i would be out there making snow angels...so long as there is a crane to getme upright again.
weather forecast says it will snow the day after Xmas. Tomorrow. We'll see.
oh not sure I told you... I have signed up to a gym nearby to do some fitness twice a week. It is only 7.50 euro per month as long as I go in the low hours.
sprite!! please don't let them push you too hard. they have to understand your physical background.
they aren't allowed to push me at all, I have decided for myself. I am going to start very very low, and slowly work up my way to a level that is still comfortable. As long as I am using all muscle groups, it is an improvement to what I am doing now. No way I am gonna overdo it.
okay!! good for you, sweetie. then go for it!
:) I think it will be good for me. I have unlimited access during the low hours. Those are daily from 7 am till 5 pm, and the whole weekend. Should be easy to find 2 times that suit our schedules.
you still with me? Or preparing meds?
still here, unfortunately the dr who christmas special is on.
trying to stay focussed on you.
oh sweetie, that is not necessary. Go enjoy Dr Who. I am almost done here and I will be here many days to come. Same cannot be said for the Dr :)
now stop that!! you are more important than a tv show. xoxox
hehehe not really. And I want you to enjoy the show. Dr Who is so much fun.
fireflies. A big *hug* for you, rose. Have fun with the show and for later, sleep well. And to all, a blessed day and a peaceful night.
WTG SPRITE!!! hope your day is wonderful, sweetie. xoxox
and so my boxing day is almost over. for all of you celebrating our Lord's birth, i hope you are having a wonderful time. for those of you just enjoying the break, i also wish that you are having a wonderful time. xoxox
Gooooooooooood morning fellow Babblers xx
worzel! are you still here?
yes ruby good morning hun xx
merry Christmas, a day late
How cold is it there?
Here is is about 40F but sunny. Happily, no snow yet
merry christmas xx it's not too cold it's about 5 or 6 degrees (similar fahrenheit I believe). We have no snow either but possibly a bit later today they reckon
I didn't know if you were C or F,so it' about the same
our weather forecasters use both, but I was bought up on centigrade, which is now celsius lol. We haven't gone completely EU yet - I'm sure Brussels will tell us soon that we are only allowed to use F!!
worzel!! my dear!!! xoxox....{{hugs}} ruby
Good morning Mum!!! ((((hugs)))) thought you'd gone beddybyes!!!
{{rosie}}
rims
good morning everyone:)
oh panties, sorry!!
good morning cross xx
|I looked over the chog and it aid something about your not travelling!!! Is that true? I will tell the painted "never mind"
close, just thought i would check in before i went unconscious...it paid off in spades...lol
{{crossy}}
((ruby))
so good to see you all again - especially Mum lol xx
ruby....just pray i will be over my next lot of surgery, hin. seeing gp next monday....
{{hugs}} crossy dear.
I just heard of a local family who lost their home to a creosote fire early Christmas morn. babblers, make sure you clean out your chimneys/wood stove pipes!
((rose))
worzel??? what did you do for chrissy day?
howdy worzel:)
I spent it with the lovely Di and we just basically sat here eating and drinking! How did you spend yours? xx
crossy, please make sure your flues/chimneys are cleaned out. please dear friend.
howdy cross xx
mine are fine:)
I have seen one stack fire, and never wish to see another
We have or chimney done every year r else the insurance company wouldn't pay if something happened
good for you crossy. and how is elegant this morning?
She is fine, but is up early with me due to a touch of insomnia
tis 05;30 atm:)
hey ya elegant....hope you are feeling tickety boo.
crossy, christmas eve, i was awake until 4am. then slept til 7am when we got up to get ready for 9am church.
lol, she has one eye open, the other half-closed, and almost recognizes what is going on around her. I best get her a cuppa, brb
it takes me nearly 90 minutes to get ready to go any where...*sigh*
not to brag or anthing, but I made the best dinner I've ever cooked yesterday but, sadly, it was just the two of us
crossy, please give her my love at the same time...
I always lie to her and say any appt is one hour earlier than it actually is... it almost works out perfectly by the time my beloved is ready to go
nice crossy. us girls need the extra time, mate. you are so sweet to recognise that need.
It works out well; she still thinks she is racing the clock, while I secretly know that we are more or less on time:)
ruby...should i be asking? ....just what did you cook?
snails for starters, then stuffed capon with cranberry-orange sasuc, cauliflower au gratin, sweet potatoes and a pumpkin pie. Same stuff I usally make, but the capon was better
Wow! sounds high-end!
did you read what ruru had yesterday? Mine pales in comparison!
We had the standard turkey, a carrot/parsnip blend, whipped taters, stuffing and for dessert crossy's famous apple crumble dessert!
I cooked the capon the way I would have made a turkey, same stuffing, cheesecloth covering, etc.
and yorkies, of course
I am glad the bird turned out well for you, ruby:)
I don't know how to ae those but must run along with you-know-who
make yorkiesm but could knit one out of the combings from the pups
nbt and 105, but nothing bigger than a 6! see you later. *woof*
both meals sound so yummy. sorry...was off getting meds ready.
Yorkie mix is easy; 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk, 3 eggs, dash of sea salt and a hand full of shredded cheddar if desired. Mix it all up and let the batter come to room temperature. pre-heat oven to 425F. Grease muffin tin with bacon or bird drippings or butter for that matter. pre-heat coated muffin tin in hot oven for 2 minutes and then pour mix in. cook until risen and tops are golden brown. serve with butter and gravy
we had a store-bought bbq chicken, seafood salad, and some basic salad with it.....but to follow was don's christmas pudding with brandy cream and egg nog.
crossy, your recipe is very similar to mine. yum!!!
some add baking powder/soda, but i believe it alters the taste and consistancy
absolutely, crossy. i am not a big fan of baking soda.
and always, always, always cook them 5 minutes longer than you think they need to be!
one of the ladies at church makes yo-yo's with baking soda...and i can so taste it...yuch!!
I find it turns my yorkie consistancy to almost a dense muffin centre instead of the hollow yorkies I love
ahhh, crossy. have you made toad-in-a-hole with that recipe?
I use yorkie mix for toad-in-the hole
:)
and honey-garlic bangers
lool....we are one
i love the flavour which permeates the yorlie.
sometimes, if i am brave, I will add a pinch of garlic to my yorkie mix;)
ooh...* on bended knee* please send me that recipe.
I bake it in a lasagne dish and instead of laying the pre-cooked sausages in whole, I cut them into coins and spread them throughout the mix and I add a dollop of honey to the yorkie mix and cook for 30 min
oh...i am in ecstasies here...
You can herb and spice to suit. yorkie mix is so versatile:)
along with the cooked crossy breakfasts, i want one of those. it sounds so delish
make it with bacon strips sometime and you will know heaven;)
oh, dear....i have died and gone to heaven...lol
We used to carry chunks of it when camping or hiking. Is an easy way to get your bread and protein in one go;)
My mum used to make home-made bread with slivers of roast beef throughout
absolutely crossy...but no hiking for me....you do understand
Made for a great sandwich
Of course i do, that is why I take pictures for you to enjoy. you can see them on my website
roflool....don just said...no good for honey sandwiches.
he is such a pleb.
I have not had a honey sandwich in years!
I love the good, earthy food, toad in the hole, meat pies, egg and bacon pies, sausages, hearty beef stew, fresh home-made crusty breads. it is the Limey in me coming out:)
we bought white bread to make the crumbs for his christmas pudding....heaps left over, of white bread...
today, my SIL made little quiches...the usual ones...and some with salmon in them.
mmm, sounds tasty
and lets not forget my bubble and squeak:)
ahhhh...but is it the true bubble and squeak...using up left over vegs and meats??
That is almost better than christmas dinner--all the days of bubble and squeak that comes afterwards!
yup, you add all your leftovers to the hot pan and add a few rashers of bacon and a couple of eggs to keep it all company
My da used to add kippers, but I do not care for that
nice crossy...exactly how i make it...
the bacon drippings make it squeak delightfully;)
yup
and only 10,000 calories a plate!
lol
crossy, have just finished viewing the version of pitates of penzance with kevin kline and linda rondstadt....what an amazing production.
i love you aussies as we share a similar love of many foods!:)
crossy...surely one of your hikes/walks would fix that problem.....lolol
lol, I hike just to stay husky:)
I will have to look that play up
it's wonderful....
Christmas break has been wonderful so far. i have been able to give Othello a rest, and read for pure enjoyment for a change;)
lovely, crossy. it's so nice to read something with no obligations behind it.
Othello, when you strip it down to its bare bones, is actually quite a boring story--a tragedy, but still a tad dull:)
crossy?? i have a lot of pics from my family gathering today. would it be okay to send you some? in about a few days? i need for himself to sort out the size of them.
i think people are more in love with the language of the time in which it was written than any true merits that the story itself may have;)
I would love to see a few of your pictures, rose
Good morning all.
Howdy, Sukee
i see what you mean crossy....me?? i enjoy the story and the flow of the narration...call me weird if you like.
Though I did learn to hate Ensign Iago quite quickly!
g'day sukee. you caught me just as i was about to leave, hin.
Well, have a great day.
crossy? i am one of the fortunate few. my grandfather passed onto me a love of language and it's origins. one of the reasons my dictionary is so battered.
my pillows are singing so sweetly. i hope to see you tomorrow. xoxox
I also love language, but a few of the terms the Bard uses are a tad obscure even for me:)
crossy tidbit. recently in France, they found a first folio collection of Shakespeare's entire works that was printed in 1625!
tc , Rose, and have a good sleep
crossy....shakespeare is one of my absolute faves....
xoxox crossy and sukee.
Night.
The folio was just sitting on a shelf in some private collection. it had been cataloged as a late 1800's re-print until they found their error!
Interesting.
traw
oops
it is a bit battered, and missing 30 pages or so, but it has rocked the literary world and is worth a tidy sum.
I bet.
Lots of words jammed in the bottom right corner of this grid:)
Just happy to get rid of the Ws :)
Hi all :)
Hi Liz.
Did you have a lovely day yesterday?
I had a nice day.
How about you?
It was a normal day for us. We don't celebrate Christmas.
However, we did just finish watching Doctor Who :)
I enjoyed it.
So did we - liked all the layers.
I only watched about 3 older episodes and some specials yesterday. Then watched Dr. Who and Miranda, then a Mrs.Browns Boys special and then Vicious at 10:30 :) So, it was a good TV day :)
Sounds like a really relaxing sort of day - not a bad thing.
happy boxing day!
Yes, let's hope all the servants get their "boxes"
I had to look up boxing day
Leaving boxes at the curb (|lol, no curb, no boxes)

Your icon is very funny, |Molly
When I was a kid, I always wondered why the Brits celebrated pugilism the day after Christmas. Then I found out it was a "token" day for the lower class.

gm, everyone! happy Boxer Day. hlep with the ko5.2/6 plz?
ko5...sounds like plural short term for what you take with a camera
I think I need the one after that, Molly.
Sorry, ends in what AAA does to your car when it breaks down
ty, Molly
Hard to see that one, it's an odd spelling
Nice lazy day after the Christmas week insanity... ahhh;)

tadone! ty, Molly for the assist.
Kodak
well done lbdawg
back to the books
Damn it
good luck with the quiz and final, pip
No Ru, not Kodak. Sorry for the delayed response, I was boxing.
With gloves or without
The Irish do it without gloves (make of that what you will)
That is why there are so many irish kids
Most of them named Mary and Patrick
I think stoopid should be accepted... we see people writing it all the time
Mostly the school teachers though
There is a whole other universe where stoopid, woot and alot are words
And yeah, when teachers stop bothering to spell correctly, it makes me sad
I am horrified by tv commentator's poor english.. especially in the nfl channel
On the nfl channel..typo
It is like rubbing balloons to me.
Darn tyops!
Back to bed. Happy boxing
ttfn, off to make pancakes for brekkies. hagd everyone!
i don't understand the clue about the camera for a ko5
pic, snap, polaroid... nothing seems to fit
morning all- i think more of film than camera for that ko clue- but- start with ko- and then add a 3 letter word for what a trailer hitch on your car allows you to do :-)
well i got that one, it seemed like the camera one was for a different one, because the person said no i have that one, and then they got the second clue
oh lol- had no idea- there may be a second one- have not listed :-)
The camera clue was for ko 5......sounds like what you take with a camera....plural
yes but like i said i thought of pic, snap, and polaroid, and i can'tfind something that works
oh i JUST THOUGHT OF IT!
Petula sang Down***N

Hello everyone!
good morning dear friends
CAR!!!!
{{Trif}}
an abundance of blessings!
the witnesses were just here - as I am still in my jammies, I hid.
What a wonderful day yesterday!
Oh boy
I was feeling really bad about it...until I realized - I didn't ask them to come here, I am under no obligation to open my door. I am in my jammies, I do not wish to receive callers right now. My house, my choice.
thus concludes today's self esteem workshop :)
Yup!
Answering the door stark naked will teach them! ;)
though a part of me did want to open the door and say "hey - I really appreciate what you are doing. But knocking on people's door at 10 am on the day after Christmas is not the way to endear yourself to strangers."
I would bet they have seen it all, jilly. And no need to torture the poor women!
LOL...
Did Valentine have fun? Matt likes him.
valentine remarked that he had never seen Matt so animated and happy :)
:)
yes, he did indeed have fun, but his asthma was burying him after about four hours, hence his more quiet demeanor as the day went on.
Well, wait, that could go either way.
I'm sure. Poor thing.
so hey - have you been down forest street?
Enoying Barbara's mince TA5 with coffee as we speak...yummmmm
No! Why?
I had heard the McNamara family on Forest Street had a good light display - TOTAL understatement! What they did is extraordinary! They have THOUSANDS of lights, and you tune your car radio to 88.7 and you hear Brendans' voice wishing you Merry Christmas, and then music plays and the lights are coordinated! IT's AMAZING.
I had no idea!
take the kiddos tonight!!!
Its probably shut down now.
Will check it out though
Hello sisters!
Hi scrabs!
Hello sister Scrabs!
We had a rule during my youth in that all Christmas lights/decorations could stay up till New Years day, then they had to all be gone by Jan 2nd
Hello Jilly! I did not say a proper hello to you!
Hello Crossy!
Happy Boxing Day! I placed some boxes into the recycling bin.
:)
LOL...not a problem!
I avoid the boxing Day commercialism frenzy like the plague
Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the Feast of Steven....
When the snow lay round about, deep and crips and even....
LOL Crossy
Hello crossy dear! How are you and the mrs doing?
I think it is still going today, carole.....trying to confirm
we are doing fine, Jilly, and you?
Most of our snow has melted. No snowsports here. :-(

Aha, TY for clue
Love pl5/14...red and green pl5/14 was my theme this year in decorating.
Nice!
Lovely
I visited with a friend yesterday and her sister from North Andover was visiting. Her sister is the director for kids' library services in Boston..or maybe Andover.
Yay!
lovely scrabbler! Both excellent library systems, either way
valentine is out doing errands. I said I was going to clean and do laundry, so begged off. Coffee, bathrobe, babbling.....
She has won awards for her work, especially summer programs.
I am a great big liar liar bathrobe on fire
My mother woke me up this morning--leaking faucet in bathtub. Crisis!
Day after christmas shopping....blech. Right up there with Black Friday.
I agree, Car. Stay away from malls and large stores.
Was it a big leak?
the only thing I need to buy today is santa hats on sale - need 6 for next year's photo, and they will be on a one way trip....
However, we do need to get a new TV, so we will be ordering it today!
I know, used to go out shopping the day after Christmas. It's how I put together 5 different themed collections...all post Christmas sales. But now meh, not so much
Dripping faucet, but everything panics my mother since my dad died.
That is very smart Jilly.
why ordering? I am sure the retail stores will have better clearance deals than online?
:(
Okay, easy grid, 44 left...off to forage breakfast
Same deals. Delivered to the house.
Amazon could have it here tomorrow
Good plan, Car.
well that is smart!
However, that is not my department, so hubby can deal with it!
amen to THAT
LOL...we just said "time for a nap" at the same time! I will let him have first shift and then I will take the afternoon napping shift!
how is the sweet dill pickle today?
right as rain
I am glad to hear it
did you get more company after we all cleared out?
Yes! Matt and Debbie came by and it was so much fun! (Kadresa got really grumpy though, so I need to check in with her later)
I'm looking forward to that puzzle today!
I have almost the entire bottom row greyed - FEAR ME

Hello, Jmc :-)
haha that always helps wv!
ka.. think felines
ko... then pulling a truck
it was so quiet in here i thought everyone was still recovering from celebrations
Just got in myself, Jmc :-)
wonderful couple of days but picked up a cold from some-where :-(
i'm at work but they won't start paying me for work until 45 minutes from now so i thought i would drop in here
*hands zooz hibiscus tea"
you want honey with that zooz. . . .its kinda bitter
ooh yes please, Jmc :-)
there you go. . . more vitamin C than lemon tea. . .
nbt
Just what the doctor ordered...Thanks!
yvw :)
my boy has a cold too. . . he refused to take anything for it. . . so he just suffers with some strange notion of being healthier not taking medicine. . . .
There is a nasty head and chest thing going around that lasts for weeks. Unfortunately it has been through my house.
I normally try and stay in the house for a couple of days just being lazy.Plenty of rest and fluids eat reasonably healthy and then i am okay after that.
Sorry to hear that, Molly. Hope everyone is well now.
hi molls
Thanks Zoom, we come from sturdy stock. Colds just slow us down a little.
Love the icon, Molly! Very apt. I used to have one of those toys too! lol
i am not suggesting he take handsfull of antihistamines. . .just enough not to be miserable. . ..
. . . i don't this that is the kind of boxing that is meant. . . haha
No I agree, Jmc.Nothing wrong in getting a helping hand with some medication. Why suffer needlessly.
*puts on hazmat suit before he enters the chat*
Not sure about that, Jmc lol..not when you see what people are like over here on a boxing day sale. It really can be like a boxing match haha..So sad.
Hello, Ruru :-)
(muffled sound) hi zooz
LOL
I am sure the germs will be dead by the time they reach you chap :-)
here's hoping for that.. sorry you're not feeling well
hard to hear you ru but good to sorta see you. . . .
*waves gloved hands at jmc*
The original meaning of "boxing day" is that the elite gave "boxes" of things to the hired help the day after Christmas. I'd rather think about it in other ways.
yes the after christmas sales are almost as bad as the black friday sales. . .
Yes I was explaining that to my sister's children yesterday, Molly!
the freeways were a mess yesterday.. it took me hours and hours to get home
although i always thought it should be green friday but maybe that makes me a xenophobist
I need some "hired help" .. I'm happy to box for them :D
And that would make it different from any other California day how?
lol
on christmas? did something bad happen in SF??
I heard California had some snow today, Is that right?
I really don't know.. all my sneaky ways of getting to the golden gate bridge.. everyone else thought of too
it's sunny here zooz.. could be up in the mountains.. they're getting a lot of snow
ah to bad. . . did you have a good day otherwise?
yeah.. sort of
sorry typing in the dark. . .
why dark?
Not sure, ru, parents were saying something about California had a massive lump of snow..But to be honest I was sort of half listening.
because this is an semi abandoned office and i can't find teh light switch. . .
oh that zooz.. that's just Hollywood snorting coke
i will have to leave soon to do actual work and didn't want to waste time looking for a switch
yes, the sierra nevadas snow fall is higher this year, goes along with all the rain we've been getting, but theirs is snow
hahahaha that was funny!
how much does it cost to have a lawyer pull a switch ?
well you were behind on rain so i am guessing this is a good thing kje
$10,000. . . $1 for pulling it and $9999 for kowing which to pull
yes, very good jmc, no complaints here
Nice one, Jmc!
$400 for the consult, a $1000 retainer and $2500 for the actual work.
plus the snow sport people are loving that too
<--just grumbling about the rain
i was afraid the rain had come on so hard that it had just run off and not made any real headway into the drought
Tipping down here too :-(
And windy.
I think I'm going to have to use lickety on this one
I can't find anything
<---- not grumbling about the rain
its actually an old engineering joke. . .
*checks KJE's med cabinet*
how rude ru!
the wine growers are ecstatic , they keep posting their ponds filling up. Would think someone that makes their living off said wine would be happy too, ru!
There are two kinds of people. People who admit to looking in other people's medicine cabinets and people who lie about it.
well.. she is a doctor.. just curious
i'm making up words now.. like woodism
woopism
:D
Well i thought woot was a word. Have idea why i thought that mind.
not very exciting, ru - nasacort, antihistamines, ibuprofen, some tums, tylenol, and an antibiotic cream or two, prob expired.... I avoid meds when I can
Have no idea why*
jmc's son prob has the right idea ; )
oh, sudafed too, always sudafed
woodism is a great word
well poot is a word too and dumb enable doesn't accept it. . . not dirty enough for enable
I use allegra and astelin.. for my allergies.. works better for me
i just want him to take sudafed for a stopped up head that pains him. . . does that make me a bad mother?
i never let them give him antibiotics until the tests came back. . . .
Of course it does not make you a bad mother, Jmc.
it's all just symptom relief for a cold... so I guess if the symptoms bother him enough, he'll take it... make him some chicken soup?
it makes you an over-the-counter mother
ooh now i want chicken soup!
Isn;t sudafed the stuff they use to make crystal meth?
mostly... just isolate him so he doesn't infect the rest of you! ; ))
yes..
Really?
kje has a meth lab at her house
benedryl too I think molly
the things you learn here in babbleland!
Oh they moved it to kje's house after the fire at Stid's?
The*
one of his neighbors in NC blew himself up trying to make meth
when you buy a big package here of benedryl (for my dog) they ask you for your id
not benadryl... just pseudo ephedrine. Thus they have made all of our lives a PITA having to go to the pharm window and stand in line for a decongestant
oh boy
Good grief, Jmc!
it is dangerous, jmc - crazy what people will do
i was so glad when we finally got rid of that house. . . i feared that someone would come into unoccupied and blow it up. . . . not a great neighborhood. . .
a perfect ending for a meth maker in my opinion
i can't say i wept many tears for him ru. . .
okay well i am off to earn my few dollars. . . just got my notice i am being la**off on monday or tuesday so.. . .joy!
bye all. lovely to see you.
Send me a copy of you light switch bill when you bill it jm :D
sorry to hear, jmc
Nice to see you too, Jmc :-) Sorry about you being la4 off though :-(
oh..damn jm
*thought for a second that gotta would work*
Slang always gets in the way..lol
2 more to get to 20 then I'm listing
good idea.. I got to twenty and got nowhere fast after that
ok... 18, and listing
I'm sure I've missed obvious ones
then you will say..How on earth did i miss that one..lol
yep
like that last mi5
fw
I'm off - hagd all
Congrats, Kje!
Have a great day :-)
hi folks.
twat
peri - breakfast beverage today?
Hello folks
hi peri :)
well it is 1 pm here and I am having a gimlet
that sounds good
when is your surgery River?
what is a gimlet?
Jan 16
any clues for the 9 or 8? ty.
I dont have them yet mkg
vodka or gin with a splash of lime over ice
I use lots of fresh lime juice
I have nothing bigger than a 5 :(
MI 8 & 9 white drink + what trees are.
Compound words.
I have one 6, and that's as far as I've gone
ty zooz
thanks, zooz. Weird words
thanks zooz - I now have NBT and NBS
Most welcome :-)
Most welcome :-)
super clues zoozzoom. ty. got both.
29 left to go - may have to list soon
I started playing this at 3 am when I couldnt sleep due to pain.
River, you did not answer my question. when is your surgery?
I did - it by fast I guess - on January 16
good luck, River
anyone have a clue for the 7s? either one or both?
I am sorry, I missed, too fast
I cant wait!
its weird to be looking forward to surgery
on FB you mentioned high blood pressure, River, is that under control?
this is hip surgery?
Sorry to hear you are in pain, River :-(
dont know yet - that was last week - I have my big pre-op visit on Monday at the hospital for everything, blood work, urine, etc.
ok
yes I am having a total hip replacement - its been a long time in coming
my pcp thought it was up due to pain and stress - I am still working full time although on vacation right now
river i wish you the best.
bbl
just looking to find a seven
sitting at work killed me - the pain gets worse at the day goes on but I need the money. It will be tough going out on disability at 60% but will be worth it.
I have a PO 7/48 compound word
I dont know what the other one is as I have not listed yet
River, if you're not already doing so, take supplemental magnesium to help with pain...really works for me and is especially good for muscle pain.
river i would love a clue for that po. ty.
Its not muscle pain though - I am bone on bone
never mind i just got it! ty ty ty
But often when there is another kind of pain muscles will react to it and add to the problem. Just a suggestion. And for OTC pain relief, I really like Aleve better than anything else. I'm having oral surgery 1/8 so will be using that a lot!
good for you mkg
I like Aleve too but it barely takes the edge off. I need to stop taking everything next week - 2 weeks before surgery. They are all blood thinners and so need to stop them. That will be tough - no Aleve and no Advil allowed.
Prescription pain meds - Tramadol and Vicodin do not work anymore
Then they'd better give you some good prescription meds.
Just a friendly reminder folks, always check with your doctor before taking supplemental anything. Especially if you are on other medications.
Good luck, River. I hope it goes well. A friend's mother had that surgery at age 84 and there's just no stopping her now!
I have been living with this for a long time - I can make it through another couple of weeks. Yes Molly I need to give my whole of list of meds including supplements to Doc on Monday. They will tell me what I can keep taking. I do take a supplement from my chiro for joint pain - I will probably have to stop that too.
thats what folks tell me Mimi. Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I will have my kindle at the hospital and they have WIFI so I can play.
I need some lunch so will be back later - have a great day folks
We'll be holding good thoughts for you. I've got to go for now. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.
I admire you people who can play this game on a tiny screen. It would drive me crazy.
Good luck indeed, River. From what I have seen though recuperating from a hip replacement is easier than from a knee.
HI
Hi SMom. I see you survived all the Christmas hubbub.
hi all!
Hello, Sue :-)
hi zooz!
y I liked your icon the other day. I think it was called 1970
oh, yes, that was a good one!
Sure was...keep them coming..lol
always :-)
23 words to find.Taking a break. toodle pips for now.
take care, zooz!
Hello anybody who is still here. I'd like to report that Christmas chez Soodle was a huge success! Mother behaved impeccably, I didn't poison anybody, no fights broke out, all in all, as good as I could have hoped for. Mother has been returned to her own domicile, & I have a nice bottle of Sanscerre chilling for later. Whew!
hellooooo
wonderful soodle.
that is very good news!
(((((Rubes)))) and hi Mixi :-)
Congratulations, Soodle. Well played.
Ruby, my daughter Sarah gave me a truly wonderful Christmas present, but I fear it might interfere with our plans.... She has bought & paid for a week in Gran Canaria for me & her in the middle of April. Perhaps we can reschedule for May?
Rubes....?
May is even better! Flowers are guaranteed!
My friends from Dublin arrived in Veyrier to ski but, alas, no snow! Do you know the family Noonan in Meath or Maura Teehan?
Sorry I missed your call, Rubes. My phone is hormonal at the moment - it's constantly on silent. If you called back, I'll answer.....
hello
PA 5 clue please?
pa + Dr. G of babble
morning all
pa5 is a Chinese temple. Ends in a vowel
Sorry, pa6
Wow, nice gift Soodle (I got a rock)
i can't believe it won't accept pooka!
stats for the 8 and 9 plz
mi8/90 and 9/114
ty sue
I agree Jes. Every respectable Irish person knows that pooka is a word.
po 7/48 ?
after an armed conflict
postferguson
damn it
pooka?
what's a pooka?
In Irish folklore, a pooka is a kind or evil spirit (mostly evil according to the stories) It manifests in different ways, usually in the form of an animal with demon eyes
mischief spirit :)
wouldn't that be a bushka?
I thought bushka was russian for cutie?
Americans get pooka confused with puka, the shells of the famous necklaces of the 70's
oh.. there's a joke there
puka is what I did a lot of in college
you shouldn't eat the green turkey, ruru
i mean, i know you were poor in college, but there's gotta be limits.
I should have eaten more bushka
god.. can you believe that green turkey hoax? who did that Ted Cruz?
no idea .... what're you talking about?
there was a big hoax about thanksgiving time on a recall of millions of turkies
turkeys
lol.. I need more coffee
People are so gullible, it's sad
huh. i totally missed that
I think about all those people checking their turkeys to see if they went green or not
I think about all those turkeys that stuck there necks out for that holiday too
*opens lead joke balloon window*
I was waiting for the pat *groan*
never can have enough groaning in your life I've always said
heheh.
Yeah, but I don't think the *groans* you get here are the ones you're looking for
At least I hope not
well.....
you know molly I think my cousins had that boxing toy at their house.. I played it once as a kid and thought this is really a dumb game
how am i so close to the end of this course and still not finished?
i want to be able to think about anything else
what course?
statistics. it's online and i found myself with about 3 weeks to do 11 weeks worth of material
oh, have a side dish of stress with that? :D
so something totally non-statistical to think about, yes. that can be arranged.
i'm thinking a movie, either Into the Woods or Unbroken
i recommend wtfevoluion.tumblr.com
i have been thinking about the Hobbit movie as a matinee
we were considering going to see Annie
I heard Annie sucks
at least the critics hate it
for what that is worth
depends on which critics, i guess
i read a pretty scathing review on that movie
why did they hate it?
flat.. acting mostly as i remember
you can read it on SF Gate .com
ok
i'm not crazy about their movie critic at SF Gate.. however.. he loved Reds..one of the worst movies of all time
oh, i love Reds, i can't help it
well, I'm going with Into the Woods, based on friends and imdb
and I have good cheap dumplings to eat while I watch it!
imdb?
internet movie database - info, ratings, everything cinematic you could want to know
oh.. never heard of it.. check out annie there then jes?
enjoy, pippingeek; and lemme know how you like it, as that's the other movie we were thinking of.
just read a handful of reviews of Annie - sounds like kind of a mix bag
i guess i'll let you know in a couple hours, just gonna heat up my dumplings
oof, the annie rating is 4.6 out of 10, i rarely see them go that low.
yeah... none of the people I usually read reviews from seem to've seen it though, and I often disagree strongly with 'standard' reviewers.
and the reviews all seem to agree that kids are fine with it
Having seen the stage performance of Into The Woods, I have no interest in the odd film interpretation.
Rotten Tomatoes reviews: Into The Woods: Good Annie: Not so Good
was never very fond of Annie -- stage or screen . . . and I agree with NPR reviewer who said to leave after first half of Into the Woods -- saw it twice on stage and very much enjoyed the first half but not at all the very dark second half
It's not a happy story Une. Anything based on the premise "be careful what you wish for" is sure to have dark undertones.
Yes i know
and fyi my taste in films and tv runs in general to the "dark" :-)
how dark?
DARK . . .bwaaahaaahaaa
ha
une is into horror movies?
prefer intense psychological dramas
you mean like babble chat?
LOLOL
guess not
plenty O drama around here..
give me an idea of a movie you really like une?
Dark like "Dead Again"?

Fargo?
and was a huge fan of True Detective
(I loved Fargo)

fargo - YES! -- the original AND the recent version
all of these have excellent writing
Frances McDormand was unbelievable in the original.. and Steve Buschemi too
love them both-- in everything they do
big Justified fan
hate to see it end
you would love "A Question of Silence" une (a foreign film)
saw it :-)
the single greatest ending scene ever in a movie in Cinema History
I love that movie
nooo sorry - wrong film -- have NOT seen it
you gotta rent it.. it's amazing
will do!
it's thrilling in many ways
and anything Coen brothers
<---HUGE BIg LEbowski fan
of course LOL
did you see Magnolia? une?
some great acting in that dark film too
great soundtrack too
no -- will add to the list
Magnolia is amazing..
and the Hours too. I never get tired of seeing that movie.. Streep KILLS it in that film
oh wait -- with Tom Cruise?
With Tom Cruise yes
yes The Hours was terrific
I DID see it
but Julianna Moore and PHilip Seymour Hoffman make that movie
have also seen Sophie's Choice multiple times
Julianne Moore and Streep are faves
she was wonderful in that too.. that woman can do anything.. she may well be America's greatest actress
indeed
Julianne's scene in the pharmacy is a heart-stopper
I need to rewatch
simply amazing
so worth it.. even Cruise (handicapped as he is as an actor) was really good in that film
he ws great in Collateral
you need to rent QUestion of SIlence and let me know what you think
will do :-)
If you really like that I have others.. it's a great story line.. kind of Thelma and Louiseish.. with weird twists
I know you'll love it
crap -- only available in VHS
still worth it
no way to watch VHS
oh... too bad.. maybe a movie theater that does great foreign flicks
we do have a good arthouse theatre that was saved several years by a generous benefactor
no friends that have VHS?
hmmmm will check
(make a big bag of popcorn for this one)
am I hogging the chat?..sorry
the original Sleuth with Olivier was terrific
Olivier was a great actor.
yup
My mom had the hots for him
:-)
my major hottie is Hugh Jackman
oh
Liked him in Swordfish
would swoon to see him perform live
perform what?
:D
heehee anything!!
(Rafa is going to be seriously jealous)
hope Rafa does well in Australian Open . . .
I'm starting to get Une's "type" now
when is that happening?
Une likes handsome and muscular and hunky
with big eyebrows
also fan of Edward Norton
he's ok
January 14!!
he was great in that Skinhead movie
I was really impressed with Edward Norton in Primal Fear. He really nailed that role.
American X? maybe?
yes
am also a Cumberbitch :-)
Primal Fear was GREAT
Yeah, that fits the type. Another European.
whew.. I thought for a second that was a Lumberbitch ...lol
*ties fingers*
HAHA
:-)
I might have to see Primal Fear then
also love Alan Cumming
don't know him
Une do you watch The Good Wife?
and re DARK, James Nesbitt was amazing in Jekyll
yes!!!
Alan Cumming is outstanding on that show
people complain when Alan leaves parties une
he's terrific in everything
they hate to see Cumming ... going...
puhleeze
lol
that one took a while to set up
I have to hand it to a guy who has made it through life with a last name like that. Imagine the jokes.
oohhh and Alan Rickman
Did you like American Beauty Une?
recently read his bio -- what a wretched childhood
yes!!!
me too.. great dark film
(alan cumming bio)
I guess I like dark films too :D who knew?
:-)
ooohhh and Don't look Now with Julie Christie
oh.. that's a great one
she was fabulous.. and beautiful too
loved her in McCabe and Mrs. Miller too
i wanted desperately to BE Julie Christie :-)
ah
one of my all-time favorite films . . . sigh
that's a really incredible film
I wish I looked like Brad Pitt :D
saw it when living in Paris . . . wonderful story, acting, cinematography AND MUSIC
Brad Pitt is a girly boy
still...
just for a month or so
the lighting in the opium scenes . . . wow
oh yeah..
hi all. help with corner D pls
di + to accomplish something
hey peri
rats, ty ruru. it is the name of a singer
really?
yep. a female singer.
I'd hate to have a name like that.. and L short of excitement
not dark but sooo sweet -- Heaven Can Wait with Warren and Julie
yep. a female singer
she is current but I guess not very popular. I like her
*reopens lead joke shute(
oh ru, also Love Among the Ruins . . .
Oh poor Ru. Not getting enough LOL's?
don't know that one either
i'll live molly.. i'm cracking myself up instead

Yes
Ty
Got it !

+
Wht is communicating in mathematical symbols. Must be a Christmas hangover : D
can anyone steer me toward the two ri words with 6 letters? ri 6/21 and ri 6/33 ? I have all the other ri 's.
Hi all. We just had an unfortunate accident with a can of seltzer water and had to move my laptop quickly.
Happy Boxing Day everyone.
ri + mail
thanks wht. got that one
Are you and Mrs. Wht doing vaudeville routines again?
The other ri6 is a cutting tool
It only looked that way, Molly. Actually I just put my feet up on the coffee table and knocked over her can of seltzer.
Wood cutting
ty Molly
hmmm.... thanks molly... that doesn't ring a bell, but will work on it.
ok... got it... second half of word
No, actually the whole word is a wood cutting tool
yes. you got me there.
clue for the da6, please?
Ends like the Italian song Oh Sole....
ty Molly
How was your Christmas, Molly?
ty for the ri6 clues, that's fireworks for me, and npt a moment too soon, very much ready for bed
Good Evening Everyone. How are you all tonight?
hi nef
Hi peri; how are you tonight? Did you have a nice Christmas?
I am well. we celebrate Chanukah
how was your Chirstmas?
It was nice. Was your Chanukah nice too?
it was nice. lovely family dinner.niece and family here from CT
My Grandson's kindergarten had a Festival of Light celebration at school. They celebrated Chanuka, Kwanza (Sp?), Diwali, and Christmas. He wanted me to go with him; it was interesting but I'm not sure I understood everything
that does sound interesting. I am sure I would not have understood everything either.
(I do know about Christmas and now Chanuka, but the other two were hard to figure out
We were in a small gym and about 80 kindergarteners were running around and delighting in the noise; so I couldn't hear everything we were being told
I bet it was noisy but sounds like they had a good time
evening all! happy boxing day
It was fun; very loud; but fun. He was so proud of his projects about each one too. And he's been going on about Menorahs now too. I have a nurse friend who sent me a card with one on the front; I always put white paper on the basement door (which opens into the kitchen and side entry) and tape up all of me holiday cards there. HE had to draw a menorah before I could put up the card from her; and the card had to be next to his drawing
Hi dan2
Hi dan
hiwht
fw, nice talking with you nef
happy babbling all
YAY, peri!!!! WTG!!!
Fireworks
YAY, wht!!! WTG!!!
wart
Sorry! Off to PB now
Lots of pies in the PB, nef.
thanks, wht
Need any clues before I go?
Alas, the poor Pagans. Heavily responsible for all these "celebrations of light" and yet they are never mentioned in the festivals.
If not, have a good evening everyone.
No, thanks, why. I'm not going to finish but am already half way in less than an hour
hahaha I just tried st5id. Now I feel dum
don't, dan2. I tried it too
I have a po7, what's the other 7?
sorry, dan2; I don't have it but will now look
wow I don't think I've ever seen a 4/14 before
Wow, I know I haven't!
da7/36
got it, tx jess
thanks jes.
and firewords - tx jess and all cluers. the last di4/6 was my last - like a fake pt.
yay dan!
YAY, dan2bit!!! WTG!!!
the mis are kicking my butt. HOWEVER, I have lovely chocolate coconut macaroons which are delicious and make the world a better place.
sounds delicious, jes.
home made ??
yep :)
I have home made "bacon and egg" cookies.
hah! found the 8 and9
bacon and egg cookies? i am intrigued...
(pretzels, white almond bark and yellow reeses pieces all arranged like tiny breafast plate
ah, not actually cookies that taste like bacon...
(the 2 inch long straight pretzels
quick & easy to do with a kid; and they are a tradition here (along with deviled eggs) with all holidays
nice :) we make puppy chow.
I think we used to make it once upon a time; but I haven't made it in many years
puppy chow has some sort of cereal; powdered sugar and what else?
peanut butter i think
and chocolate
I went & looked it up: chex mix cereal, peanut butter, chocolate chips and powdered sugar. Easy enough for me to make! :-D
hi all. i have po 7. what is other 7 plesae? and a clue as well.
ty
da 7/36; it's a pl
ty. any clues nef?
mkg; I can't think of anything that makes sense anymore. Sorry.
ok. ty. is it a common word we use?
not at all. the definition says it's a feudal lord who was a vassal of a shogun
ugh. so japanese word. i think i have seen it now and do know it but how was that weird word spelled? ty for that clue. i can get itnow.
it ends like oh solo ***? (but I don't know that oldsong either
got it. ty. just took time.
i read the book shogun. it was in there.
usedn more words as well.
almost sounds like a cat, Nef
and hi everyone, just back from Vancouver
sounds spanish really.
hi flosey
Hi flosey; how are you?
good thanks Nef, and you?
7 left
doing fine, mostly.
GO, jes!! You can do it!
does the mi8 and 9 have anything to do with the mi4/9?
son & grandson are mostly moved out to their own apartment about 5 minutes from here; but my son's left the basement (his room, bathroom, and the family area) totally trashed this weekend
hmm. ko5/26 is not how i'd have spelled that.
yes, flosey
thanks Nef, sorry about the mess you're left to clean up but nice that they're in their own place and close enough to visit
I'm going to try to make them clean int up this weekend
good for you - hope you are successful there
Thanks for that clue, jes. It's not how I'd spell it either
me too, flossy; it may take some nagging though
nag away!
sometimes the only language they understand!
LOL! Sometimes it's a lot easier to do stuff instead of nagging
But I refuse to clean up their mess: they moved in to a newly finished and painted area; they can at least clean up their mess and get rid of the garbage that's scattered all over
mi5/14 please?
I'm freezing; I'm going to find my robe and make some tea. BBS
looking jes
mi 5/14 it looks like an erroneous hairstyle
off to walk dogs. back in a few.
erroneous hair? hmm...
thanks :)
I have very weird clues sometimes
it worked
hey there
down to 38
maybe someday I should look at what Enable says the word means; it might help
hi stid :)
hi stid! How are you feeling tonight?
it says to do wrongly, botch
not bad. A little tired/depressed, but it's that time of year and I ran out of a supplement that helps, so I know I just have to live through it. How about you?
that would have been a better clue, jes
no wonder you didn't know that word, jes! *grin* it doesn't apply to you!
Vitamin D; stid?
oh, hardly. i make mistakes all the time. I just try to catch 'em before they grow.
yep
:-D
I take it year round because it also helps the "little grey cells" you know
didn't know about the brain effect -- just know it helps me have the mental and physical energy to get through the days
no for the other mi5/14...
I'd never used it until a couple of years ago DH's neurologist told him he should take it because it helps prevent falls and can help prevent falls and seems to have some protective effect for MS pts. (preventing new lesions)
er, now for... see? mistakes were made.
good to know -- part of the issue was the supply I had been using was getting low so I stopped at the end of summer when we still had sunlight. When I tried taking it again I reacted to the gelatin capsules... had to look around a while to find a vegan version. That cow allergy is getting pretty intense. :-(
I'm sorry to hear that, stid
jes, do youneed a clue? I just found it
a measurement of thickness (like in plastic), and a short name for a parent
please :)
mi5/14 = first part of cow juice + ma's mate
thanks, that's firewords :)
most of a dairy drink + the male parent
ah, now watching a poirot... LOVE Poirot. I believe Tom and I need to break out the rest of the spice cake and indulge...
YAY jes!!!
YAY, jes!!! WTG!!!
(((((tor))))) how are you? Not too soggy, I hope?
Yay jes!
A bit cool, but only a little bit of rain yesterday ..
and Heyas kids ..
we love poi rot also. (That's where the "little grey cells" came from)
not so bad then. Good -- best for the ecosystem when the rain comes a little more slowly. :-)
hi Tor!
We had a green Christmas this past week. Now tonight we've already had 2 inches of snow in less than 2 hours
no snow here yet
oh, that seems like a lot! (from the person who lives at sea level in a mostly moderate climate)
really jes? I would have thought you had at least some by now.
we had some a month ago, but it melted off and was in the 40s for several weeks.
I suppose that makes it easier to get to and from work, though -- I have sure been glad to not have a lot of snow/ice this year, I would hate to miss a day of teaching just from spinning out on the road.
oh, that must have been when we had temps in the teens -- so bitterly cold. I started letting the kids in 20 minutes early!
The snow tonight is that soft white fluffy stuff; we're under a "weather advisory" but it definitely isn't a storm
i don't mind driving in the snow, actually. it's more the other people that are problematic
agree, jes.
yes -- I am the same, jes -- 4WD is less an advantage and more an incentive to drive aggressively in unsafe conditions
The people in the ditches are usually the ones who have the 4WD
exactly -- which creates a hazard for the rest of us while they cartwheel down the road and into the ditch
well, I will just have to list, I suppose
Boy, even with the list I can't always find the words.
need clues?
not me; thanks for the offer though. I'mhaving a dizzy spell and am trying to get rid of itby relaxing and concentrating on the game
hold on...
*very concerned mama look* dizzy spell? do you have those often?
I am, stid! ;-)
hey, sitting quietly is good for dizzy spells, and also for babble :)
It's some mild vertigo. I guess a person gets some little bits of calcium in there inner ear that can upset your sense of balance. there are some positions that you can do yourself (one is sort of a half somersault); but I've found that I need to just try to relax first before I do it
Or I'll fall
It's just another thing that proves aging isn't for sissys
oh -- I am glad you know the cause and treatment for your spells -- I just worried a little because my Granny had "spells" for a couple of years before she fell. I am sure they were undiagnosed TIAs, which are common in our family.
(my spelling sucks tonight too)
I am CERTAIN I already entered some of these "new" words!
ah -- spelling hardly counts any more, I have so many tyops *grin intentional one there* and my eyes cannot even see most of them
Vertigo is a sudden attack wear you're just doing nothing and then the whole house goes topsy turkey; your proprioception is gone and it's like you're trying to stand up and the room is a big tilt-a-whirl
It does NOT sound like fun.
it isn't DH had to go to PT for it for nearly a month; now this new method works better and lasts longer (costs less in time , effort, trouble and $$$ too)
I am glad that you found an easier solution
RE 6/33 please?
Now if YOU can find a solution to your hip problem!
combo word, stid; type of wood cutting devise
I think it might be just loose connective tissue, the one that makes the most sense is iliopsoas (sp?) based on the onset and location of pain
aha! of course. thanks nef
down to 26...
and thanks also GR, I see you lurking!!!!! *happy mama look to see friends online*
in 24 minutes, cab be done. {{hugs}} stiddy. {{hugs}} nef
you know before I had my hip replacement; I'd pulled my psoas muscle and then it wouldn't heal? Have you had x-rays taken lately?
oh dear, that looks like i have a cold...CAN not cab
rofl, GR!
I have not, nef, and in no hurry to do so. The last time they decided to do a scan there was NO bone damage, and the dye they used caused very unpleasant reactions. I didn't sleep for several weeks, from the pain.
hi grannyrose.
*puzzled look* but stiddy with the latest technology, they can get really good ultrasounds now.
Just get a plain old x-ray, stid. No fancy Ct or MRI
the techs nowadays can define tendons, muscles everything.
hm. well, maybe I can try again.
I cannot do anything right now...
oops....home is the hunter from on the hill. don back with the groceries. going to help put them away. brb
