hello
cooee and g'day from me
rabe is TOO a word. I eat it all the time.
lolol
it is. look it up!
but it usually spelled raab
oh, pk
ok
but you are quite correct, it is just enable won't allow it. it it spelled both ways in the dictionary
nbt
yay you harps
nbs
well done harps.
good morning all
phantom: lentil
wow... dutch for someone who gives eating advice is in the grid. And it is an 8-letter word. Dietiste.
yahoo!! {{hugs}} dear sprite. sorry i wasn't here when you came in. was doing an on-line survey.
hi sweetie, *hugs* How was your day? Did you have a good time with your friend?
ummm, would you believe i tried it?
lolollllll oh yes I would. I can't help myself neither... always try everything that appears in chog.
day was so so. june is always good value, and don loves it when i bring home for him a piece of baked cheesecake.
so that was the good part... which part was bad? Pain?
and how about talking things out with Don about yesterday?
but for some reason, when i got home i was covered in perspiration and aching all over. had a nana nap which lasted nearly 2 hours.
don and i are all good.
ouch. Sounds like you overdid stuff the day before, with the bed and all.
and I am glad... I hope you spoke up for yourself and didn't just let it slide.
i honestly try to not overdo stuff, sprite.
I know, darling, it wasn't meant to sound reproaching at all. I know how hard it is to not overdo it. If only it would be the same every day, but it isn't.
phantom: pestilent
reproaching? Reproachful? Ugh.
i hear you, honey. i know you just want is best for me. and i love you for it.
absolutely. And it is mutual :)
reproachful in the instance.
ugh * this *
it always baffles me. Some days, we can do several chores, walk for a bit, cook dinner and still have some mileage left. And other days, it is one or two chores and wham, overdid stuff and hell to pay the days after.
thanks darling :) Sometimes I make such ugly mistakes, lol.
ikr??? it's crazy stuff. and you can't tell on the day that that is what is happening.
nope, it is only looking back that you can say, oh right, should have stopped before this or that. So frustrating.
btw, your command of english is waaaay better than my dutch.
*giggles* Duh... we learn english at school, from at least age 12, nowadays even before that. Your knowledge of dutch is only what rubs off of me, I bet :D
* rubs sprite frantically, hoping it is not the wrong way * roflol
roflollllll! Hmmmm.... a little lower.... a bit more to the left.... yessss *contented sigh*
* belly shaking laughing *
so long as you aren't moaning, i am safe, right?
:D
I slept really well last night. I feel actually up to my day of cooking.
spit polish dear, or should i use the brush?
hahahaha yes, I won't moan. Just the backrub will do :)
nice, hin. good for you. now remember, step, rest, step, rest
right. I will remember that. Eile mit Weile, as our eastern neighbours say.
phantom: diatribe
and dissent
lots of phantoms tonight/morning
indeed. I keep seeing new ones, lol.
am doing the 'doing without' ending now... so many phantoms there.
7 doing without words, and would you believe only one ending with the loch monster
such a waste of an ending.
for real? Ok, then I can give the monster a rest, at least, lol.
I really think 'doing without the eating regime" should be a word. As in she went di8 for 4 whole weeks before she started a new one.
*giggle*
hah. 7 doing without words found!
well done sprite
extra word? any clues what it is?
se8 lickety
hi lickety :)
Clues are up
Clues are up
Sorry - hit the wrong button - Clues coming again without that word that's not a real word
thanx lickety. it wasn't a problem for me.
ok all good. Problem is, if I don't fix it - tomorrow wont run
thanks for keeping us in clues, Lickety. You are a daily blessing.
understood, lickety
lol... 8th word with doing without!
there is??
yeah, just found another one :)
which one? i still only count 7.
let me see... 3xA, D, L, T, 2xW
ummm sprite?? one is the loch monster ending
ouch ouch ouch. You are so right. *shamefaced*
special hugs for sprite
hehehe :) Thank you darling.
note to self: don't forget the solitary loch monster
fireflies
WTG SPRITE!!!!
very nice grid!
it was for me also. didn't hit lickety until about 25 left. i think i am improving.
time for me to eat my apples, and go off to shop. Once the shopping is done, I can more or less relax. Am gonna make a huge pan of soup today, easy dinner.
awesome, rose!
{{hugs}} my dear friend. i hope your day is good.xoxox
and you sleep well, my friend. *hugs* good night!
sprite .. are you still here?
nope, she has gone, rolin
hmmff... was gonna ask for a clue to the w without... i have the wa8...
it is actually we7/44. wa8 is the only one.we7, uses the loch monster ending.
aaahhh... ty rose
np's rolin
Hello, all...a long lost friend is peeking in!
can someone point me towards the ab words?

good morning all
hi Sue

hi sue :-)
and matty and lynxxx :-)
while we are having another hot hot weekend ahead
crazy,eh?
lol morning everyone:) tis a balmy MINUS 11F here this morn with a lovely breeze off the bay pushing the wind chill down to minus 22f:)
hey crossy :-)
hi Cross
i know i looked like a total nutjob at 5:00am standing in the ice and snow in my front yard as I took my dogs out one by one and BEGGED them to hurry up and pee! LOL
and here a warm -7, with windchills of -25 .
where do you live, ivesy?
gosh Une - anything to melt the snow
melting snow with puppy power!
:-D
western ny, 50 miles south of buffalo
hello jaianniah and welcome
here we have 8f and feels like 0. Thank God for dog doors!
western ny . . . brrrrrr
darn... all my windows are frozen shut again:(
Morning all, brrr
Howdy, Sukee
School has been out here for the last WEEK!!!! arg. There goes spring break for the kids.
They cancelled all the school buses here and closed the schools.
The south is just not made for cold weather
Really? why? you getting lots of snow?
who me?
No, just because of the cold.
They do not cancel just for cold here. As long as the buses will start the kids must go
schools have been cancelled here as well -- bus routes VERY treacherous
no, ice from Monday and cold since. some roads have ice on them so no go.
Of course, it probably has something to do with it being Friday.
Yup, ever the school board loves a long weekend:)
I had accidentally left the stove on overnight, I just had it on very low though so no problems. I won't do it again though.
It helps to warm up my apartment a bit.
I remember as a teen working for an independent dairy up north, and how on winter days when they knew it was going to drop below minus 50c they wouldeither bring the batteries of all the trucks inside for the night, or keep one truck running all night long to boost the others in the morning
on local tv news they just showed over 50 mailboxes trashed by snowblower clearing ice and snow along the shoulder of one of our county roads . . . jeezomeez
Was the driver not paying attention?
will be repaired at expense of Tennessee Dept of Transportation
couldn't see them due to heavy blowing snow
lol, une. Years ago we used to have a plow guy who seemed to take great delight in shearing off mail box posts. that is why many people on the marrower secondary roads have those boxes set up on long boom posts that just hang out near the road and are attached to a post further inside the property line
in NY we never got off school. You walked through it all.
We once threatened to put in a steel mailbox post and they said they would sue us for blade damage if we did
How often in -25C?
omg crossy!
sue, when i was i high school i never had an excuse -- lived 2 blocks away LOL
Nothing worse than living right next door to your school
i get that. Here, they close the schools. you are not given the choice. so instead the kids have Saturday school for 3 hours. Its a joke and a waste of time. I would rather they kept the kids 3 hours longer in the day and make the core classes longer for a week.
embarassing admission: my uncle in Louisiana sold me one of his repo cars for a dollar -- an old Chevy station wagon -- and I sometimes drove to school LOL
here, they have been debating year-long schooling for a while now. Not sure if anything will come of it. Guess they want to process the kids faster;)
2 blocks away
either that or move the break to winter so there is no down-time as the kids sit in class all summer i suppose
i could not find an N word...duh n4 slapped me itself
There were so many "snow" days here last year and again this year.
In my class I sit and look at the 18-20 year old crwod ; they are the ones who only attend because they are missing two or three credits for their diploma and shake my head. 9 out of ten of the are a waste of space because they just do not care.
crowd*
you would think with technology today, they would run online classes for snow days. It just irks me when we dont use the tools of today because people are stuck on yesterday.
that is already happening in some schools here, sue
i get the college kids that dont come out in bad weather because they never had to before.
not here, because 3 kids dont have internet
Yes I have heard of some schools doing online classes here too.
Kids get to bring a school laptop home that has camera and lessons all set up so they can create a virtual classroom
they can play xbox and be on their phones, but that is it.
That is another reason why the internet should be available to all. Like radio was, like TV was.
Of course that does not work if you do not have internet as you say
there is a city here, Lexington NC, that has free internet for the whole city. that is the way to do it
it would cost a lot less then opening the schools and buses on the weekends
yes, they pay for it with embedded advertisement sponsors. it is a win for all concerned
Parts of Toronto have free internet zones
I am going to take that fight to facebook right now
And there is one place the name of which I cannot remember that is turning their old phone booth into free wi-fi hot spots
When I lived in Toronto there was talk of the area around the university being wired for all.
Then again where I lived there were coffee shops on every corner, I probably would have been able to pick up free internet.
I do know that Toronto U now give gids a e book readers with all the text books for their classes pre-loaded onto it.
kids*
I guess U o T has to justify its high tuition :)
No more having to pay 100 dollars just for one text book!
I was so stupid, I worked at the university for 12 years and only took 3 classes. I could have gotten my BA for free.
I am taking ENG4U right now and it is my last class;)
So sad, a 3 year old in Toronto got outside in the middle of the night and froze to death yesterday.
Big exam on Monday:))
Way to go crossy, good luck.
Breakfast time, see you later.
tc sukee
I have the WA8; PE8;TE8;DA8 what are the stats for the 5th one please?

Hello! TY for those 8's!
I like your parrot photo, Car :-)
Better to post something long in your profile, then ask people to read it
It is there? I still see my Valentine weemee.
If you right click inside the chat area that often refreshes it for you.
It's too big for me to make out
It is on the large size.

No complaints though. Anything but a weemee is fine with me.

Welcome.

They finally called a two hour delay for schools here due to the cold. I guess they finally figured out that 1 degree temperatures are too cold for walkers and kids waiting for buses.
Oh that is horrible. Hubby was just commenting that it is too cold out there. He is using water to unice the door and got a little bit on his finger. It was already starting to feel numb after about a minute.
Sounds like you are all living in one big freezer...Brrrrrr!
Pretty much. HAGD. see you in a bit.
try -17 for morning lows.
Toodle pips, Car :-)
I know i would not last long in those cold temps.
I think just about every school in MI is closed today.
My morning routine has been disrupted by not having cold water in any of the three bathrooms despite leaving water running last night.
With the cost of energy these days.I hate to think what all your energy bills are going to be like this winter!
Bummer Bea
do you mean your pipes have frozen?
we have a well, so no water bills
Yes, our cold water pipes have frozen.
I hope that they don't burst on you
Me too! We just got the walls repainted from last winter's break.
Living in a 150 year old house is always an adventure.
Sounds like you need more insulation around the pipes
We have an unheated basement and the pipes have never frozen. Lucky I guess
Yes, I think Hubs will have to give more insulation consideration this summer.
stats for the 8? please
We usually don't have winters this cold. But two in a row makes you think differently.
Oh but I bet your house is charming Bea. They don't make them like they used to.
da8
ty
My bet is that the insulation companies and window replacement companies are going to rake in big cash this Spring.
I keep reminding myself how charming it is, Molly.
sorry got it wrong..... looking for TR6 i can`t find it help !
In a perfect world, I would love to have a house that old. With plenty of money to upgrade certain things. : D
Especially since my bed is in the dining room and my dressers are in the hallway. Everything has a heavy coating of plaster dust...
TR 5 & 6 A strong fishing net for dragging along the sea bottom.

now I have to see if I have a 'flour' word. :-)
*Waits for Babble gossip to accidentally get posted in chat
I asked before but had to leave. Can i post a long post for you all to critique? would anyone mind. It is about school closings.
:D I know people who have got into real trouble mixing their chat windows
Sue, better to post it in your profile and ask folks to read it. That way it doesn't take up chat room
Yes Matty. That is like hitting the SEND ALL button on an email that is NOT meant to go to ALL
ok, done. can you all look at my profile and offer assistance in a letter?
The problem with "computer classrooms" is that for many children, it requires parental assistance. And sadly, many parents are not willing to do that.
They also now have Solar Roadways that can be installed where they would melt snow as it lands and snow would no longer be a driving problem. I can't wait until lots of cities and towns start installing.
I think a lot of municipal governments would balk at providing free computers and free internet.
When schools close, it is hard for parents that work to find someone to care for their kids, much less find someone to 'j
home school them...
To be fair, though, the essay doesn't seem (sorry, I did skim) to be suggesting permanent home schooling, only in certain circumstances?
Yes Matty, but it still requires that students have internet, computers and parents who will help them.
or some type of supervision.
no parents. Maybe this would be for 4th grade and up. They all can play xbox
I remember not being able to spell a word and my mother handing me a dictionary. It learned to rely on myself to find answers.
Severe weather is going to impact the school year. There is no way around that. I think a more reasonable approach is to amend school year requirements in years where there is a lot of severe weather.
supervision would be installed on the computer through software. And remember, they are school computers so they can be monitored. They will be signing an agreement before taking it.
There is a way around it - Solar Roadways
Well, let me know when places like rural North Carolina and rural Kentucky can afford to install solar roadways.
but joseph here in NC there are areas that are way out in the boonies
sorry molly i didnt see your post.
Well eventually every road in the country should be changed to Solar Roadways. It will solve so many different problems.
joseph, here they close schools if it rains too much do to flooding of bridges. What then?
So would flying cars, but we haven't seen that happen yet
no, we all work from home in some capacity, why not bring it to the students. This week when the college was closed i assigned online work.
The solar roadways have built in drainage. I suppose there would still be times when it would not be enough and you would have flooding. I mean, I vacillate between optimism at this new technology, and figuring if society doesn't collapse we're doing really well.
well, something to think about. I need to go into the 10f and get a lawnmower. bbl
Online work may be the answer for high school and college students. I don't see it being a viable solution for elementary school kids though.
molly, they play on phones and computers all the time. I am not saying for k-2nd, but after that they are on computers at school.
and you are right, some parents wont help...but they are the ones who dont help their student any other time. We should be give the chance and opportunity.
I think the biggest problem would be getting governments to agree to pay for internet and computers.
Or getting them not to spy on the kids through the internet and computers they've paid for.
I think, first, it would be sad to take snow days away from kids. Also, many, if not most parents still have to go to work when schools close. If the kids are too young to stay home alone, they either take them to work with them, or drop them off at someone else's house, which would remove them from their computers. I think our kids are regimented and surveilled enough as it is. Let them play in the snow.
I agree Sam
Yes, but when you have as many snow days as parts of the US have been having, the days have to be made up
maybe they should switch and have school in the summer and vacation in the winter.
The days don't have to be made up if the schools amend their school year requirements for years (and there are not many) with many closing days.
schools here build in 3-5 snow days...if they go over those, then they go to school longer in June....this year, our town had three days off early in the winter because of snow related power problems....now they have had a total of 8 days off because of weather....they will cancel a teacher workshop for one day....and will go longer in June....but the State Commissioner of Education can also "forgive" a few days...
the feds upped the time kids have to be in school. some schools extended their hours and some extended the days. Some state govs took snow days a way to meet the standards
As far as I know, the school year requirement is still betweeen 175 and 180 days in the US
correct here, molly....
i think ours is 175 student days....teachers work longer...
ours is 180. but I teach at a private school so we don't make it up.
halfway!
can I get a clue for any of the lone tiles? I'm missing all three
this was back in the 90's, could have changed since then.

bbl
I think way too much of a deal is made over "missed school days". Some years, like this one, are going to have a lot of weather cancellations. You just work around that and move on.
that's what we have done for years... ;o)
The only thing I take issue with in that bit that was posted in Sue's profile is that schools close "when there is a bit of snow". It makes it sound like schools just close on a whim. Careful consideration is taken when schools are closed and it is always with the safety of students in mind.
Good morning, all. Hope everyone is staying warm and cozy.
yes, and it's good to remember that not all states have good snow removal equipment....and drivers who know how to drive in snow and ice....
hi judi...
Hi All..
clue for the la8? please
Exactly Pen.
and what looks like nothing on a main road is often much more hazardous on country roads...
hi hego...
don't have the la 8 yet....sorry...
hiya
And there are the kids who must walk to school to be considered.
I have a 7
la8...extend female genitalia word
same here...
Did not see that....
Or "private lady parts" as Zoom calls them : D
got it...tried that a few times, must have been misspelling it
Gotta love Zooz
yes....we have had two pedestrians hit by hit and run drivers this winter in a town of only 7600....they were walking on the side of roads because the sidewalks were not plowed yet....
ty molly...
That's how Stephen King got hit.
Surprised Ruru has not appeared at the mention of "lady parts".
Does that happen a lot in Maine?
We had a student killed on an icy road not far from where I live. She was crossing the street, trying to get to school.
Judi, me too.
no, not usually....but we are pretty good at keeping sidewalks clean....this winter, it's been hard to keep up....
I can imagine.
in Portland, they had to find another spot to dump the snow because the pile was so high, it impeded planes at the jetport...
cheez!
They had to resort to dumping it in the harbor in Boston. Just add tea!
how many words today?
Flame throwers...we all need flame throwers...
ewwww....lots of salt and dirt in snow....
178...
Boston has used a melting machine too.
thanks penquis
some places have trucks that turn it into water....boston does, i think...
hi all. clues for 8s very welcome.
Penq, they tried to keep that to a minimum.
here they dump the snow into the river
Yes they do.
Then what do they do with the water? Into the sewer run-off?
yes Judi
don't know...
It would go there anyway.
Well, when you think about it, there's dirt and sand and salt in most rivers anyway.
Going to be lots of flooding in the spring, I predict.
some ecosystems are pretty vulnerable to changes, though...
Yes, remember everyone, the sky is falling
there is also oil and road dirt involved.
very true...
*opens umbrella*
we had statewide flooding in 1987....my school was closed 3 days....but some places were closed a week because bridges collapsed....
When it snows in Jerusalem, you know it's an ugly winter
It is kind of verging on the biblical, though.
But be afraid of global warming...be very afraid...
: D
it snows every year in jerusalem. it is cold and jerusalem is high up. perhaps there was more snow this year, but i can tell you it snows most years.
interesting mkg
Global Henny Penny Syndrome.
Tell it to the polar b***s
We should relocate the polar be4/5 to Boston.
Lots of snow. Food rich environment.
:)
I'm hoping that the e word on the fourth row isn't a common word. Clues anyone?
think of joining the army....
circular words are tough...
Oh. yes. quite. NBT!
Just got the joining the army reference.
believed it for a mo.
believed it for a mo.
hahahah....

Pen, if you have any swamp land in Florida you want to sell...
ha!....
i actually have a five acre parcel in a nice rural area -- 20 minutes from a small city -- to sell.... ;o)
Um...no ty
I can do Florida one week a year.
Up sell, Pen. Throw in the 8 feet of snow for free with that parcel.
good idea, judi!
that could work!
Snow castle for sale on large private lot. Will sculpt to buyer's specs.
But hurry! Melting fast!
yes!.....could build the buyer an igloo!
not melting here too soon, hego...
sadly
45 left. Time for a break.
I wish I could bring you all here to Phoenix. We had 80 degrees all last week and upper 70's this week and next. I feel so bad for all my friends in the awful cold and snow.
thanks, mimi....i will think of you... :o)
ty Mimi, I will head south next week.
Just spoke to a friend in Cincinnati and it's -15 there with snow. I've lived in it both there and in Michigan, so I do remember.
Hego, you know that Florida is pretty cold now, too. Aloy is there.
there is definitely global warming from all i see. and stephen hawking says our planet has just 1000 years to go because the sun is getting weaker and because we have destroyed the planet. so that is his take.
Of course, considering your weather, it will probably still feel balmy.
I'm in Florida and it was 32 this morning, but will be 75 tomorrow
enjoy the weather mimi
It will warm up in a few days
it's 10 here but the sun is shining....
Penq is it windy there?
Hoping I can enjoy it now. Had major oral surgery last week and have been in PAIN. Had 18 teeth extracted and fit with dentures....really awful.
Poor Mimi. :(
i am not doing so well with this grid. any clues for the 8s other than female body parts?
pe 8 is a plural.....think of a small flashlight...
ty Penq

ty pen. got the pe 8
hi mkg, this is the Georgia O'Keefe grid, isn't it?
well i am off....bbl to find the last 35....

what do you mean georgia o'keefe? not getting it harp
lol Jane. Good one.
why am i not getting the okeefe reference? you mean to that one 8, the la?
let's just say she painted a lot of orchids....
a lot of her flowers looked like lady parts.
must go bbl
Latin for lips, mkg
Build on that
to be fair, a lot of flowers are lady parts
does the we7 build off the 4?
Quite true. It is a plant genus
flowers and electrical sockets

sorry, i just realized you asked for stats not a clue
Reluctantly, have to go and unpick Navy blue Aran knitting while there is natural light. Trust my awkward son-in-law to want a sweater in navy.
harp, it's quite alright!
so, who else is dreaming of gardening and spring?
Me, me, me
not me, i want to ski for another month
Hello again
fair enough, harp! But Molly, I can't wait to go outside and start digging around. Or even just go outside and be able to see the ground
... which may not be until July at this rate
help with the be 5667?
(unless it's a fish)
The 5 & 6 sounds like the beginning of a star, or a creepy character played by Michael Keaton, but don't say his name three times.
thanks
The other 6 & 7 are BE + the letters of what a man wears around his neck, but mix them up; plural for the 7
I hear you Mael. There is nothing likable about bitter cold and snow. It's depressing.
We had a Real Winter last year and I loved the challenge. But we didn't get as much as you guys have.

There is an extra S in that be7 word, that is why the neckwear clue isn't working
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising, Haply I think on thee, and then my state, Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate; For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
It was in yesterday's grid too
lovely, douglas
I like it too :-)
good morning, everyone
hello again
hi, nan and MLF
hi dian
Did I hear the word gardening. This snow ain't melting til April, if that
Oh too bad. We should have some melting this weekend.
hi all, it was 8 degrees when I got up this am. supposed to be a high of 18 degrees! I am staying inside and keeping warm
it 2 degrees here this morning
You lucky southeners

Yes when I went out with the fluffies for a walk at 7 AM it was around 0
peri sounds like the temps here in nc
nice thing is it's so cold that the leaks in the hallway have slowed down
it is supposed to be in the 30's tomorrow and in the 40's on Sunday.
bichon, my daughter that lives in wilton, the house lost power
4 celcius here -- have to get hubby out to finish pruning the grapes for me.
Why? Because of the high wind?
Pruning grapes, how can you find them?
what do you mean how can I find them?
I think so..she just left a message that she has no power and will call later

bichon, I dont know
bichon, I guess the fireplace will help for now
mlf - one is a pl of other, third is unrelated
frist two ar are related
ar's begin with the same 3 letters
they all start with the same 3 letters
what a helpful bunch we are :)
thanks all
We can close off our kitchen and there is a fireplace in there. But I don't know what that would do in such extreme cold
i got the 7
bich -- don't understand your comment about the grapes
all 3 found
aren't they buried in snow?
bichon you could stay in the room where the fireplace is and get seem direct heat on you. I would love a fireplace in these temps
we don't have any snow -- temps have been getting up to 10C during the day -- forsythia, lilacs and roses by the front door are in bud
but a real one not gas. electric one... maybe
A fireplace will emit only so much heat. And we have a cathedral ceiling in th kitchen. We could keep the stove going
where in NC mlfan?
Where are you in Canada, thought you were around Calgary
I have a fairly small fireplace and it puts out a lot of heat.

You know you're in for some fun when the positive forecast is only a "few" hours of ice.
i am back....without frostbite, thank goodness!
Where did you go?
i forgot that it was school vacation week and the senior exercise class was not being held...nice lady let me walk on the treadmill for a half hour instead....nice because I am not a Y member...
nice!
then i went to the yarn shop and the grocery store....did a little shoveling when i got back...the wind blew the snow all over the walkway....
10 degrees and windy....kinda nippy....
I was out also. It was a balmy 16.
bought some stuff to make a chili tomorrow...glad i got it done today...
Just out long enough to stave off starvation.
yup....nice because there weren't many people at the grocery store...

Hi MM. don't have that baby.
i have one that is a plural but it is probably the first one...

it's not a plural but it can be pluralized...
no it has a plural
< bangs head againt the wall......... thanks
ouch!
there are several of those mineral ending words...
Pen, I'm glad there were not many people at the grocery store when you went. All the idiots were there when I went. What is it with people who feel the need to ram your butt with their grocery cart when they are behind you in line?
hate that!....i was surprised that it was kinda dead there...
Or run up your heels
yes!
it is an american supermarket sport molly, akin to whipping into a handicapped parking place in front of someone who is really handicpped
i actually hade someone MOVE ME WHEELCHAIR in the market when i stood up to reach a top shelf
Oh Lord!
how awful....i went shopping in Germany once and someone kept trying to take something out of my basket....
Having had some orthopedic surgeries, I have had experience as a handicapped shopper and, boy, was it enlightening.
And then there are the people who are too busy yapping on their cell phones to pay attention to what they are doing.
Oh, Molly, my favorite, those.
SMom, I would love to have been there to hear the earful you gave the person who moved your wheelchair : D
No matter where you go in this world, there's always someone doing soming with a smart phone
i have a dumb phone.. ;o)
I want to know what the hell these people did before the cell phones that they seem surgically attached to. And yes Pen, I have a dumb phone too. It just makes phone calls, fancy that.
I have a smart phone for one reason, it has GPS
i have 3000 minutes on my dumb phone....costs me $9 a month....i just don't make that many calls...
I have GPS on my phone and it's not a smart phone.
i do have a GPS for my car...
I have an iphone but I don't walk around stores talking on it.
I have Google navigate and Waze
i don't like the idea that i am that available....my phone is usually off....if i am out and about, i am doing stuff....don't want to talk on the phone....
You don't have to take the call.
true, but i would have to fumble to find the phone and turn it off.... ;o)
Nope, just let it go to voice mail. I do it all the time.
i don't have children or elderly spouse or parents to worry about...
Me too
I always answer husbans and kids.
People look at me like I'm a freak when my phone rings in the grocery store and I don't answer it.

pray tell, what is a "dumb phone"?
not a smart phone
no internet access...

I have that too and I LOVE it.
also have a nook....
When I go somewhere where I know I will have to wait, my Kindle goes with me
my iTouch goes with me....grocery list, reading available, games to play...
fits in my pocket....don't carry a purse...
I used to do that annie, but my iphone has a Kindle app. So I can access all my books on my phone!

hi...
how goes it, Pen?
ok here....really cold but ok....
really cold here as well. This morning driving to work, my car said it was O degrees F. How cold is it where you are?
well i went out at noontime and it was 10 and windy....
brrrr! It was a few degrees warmer than that here at about that time. And windy too!
i was bundled up like Charlie Brown...
snow tomorrow night...but we could have some sleet....3-6 inches perhaps...
we are supposedly getting up to 5 inces of snow and 0.1 inch of ice. All day tomorrow.
I guess that is the same storm system.
i don't need to go out until Monday noon....but i was hoping to go to the movies on Sunday afternoon....
bummer.....
I don't have to work on Saturday, but I do on Sunday.
perhaps it will be better on Sunday ...
I am sure it will be.
well, as sure as anyone can be.
good....i went to an exercise class at the Y today...forgot that it was not going to be held because it's school vacation week here....luckily the lady at the desk offered to let me use a treadmill instead.....so i walked a mile and a half....felt better for it!
and my view from there was great....frozen harbor....
very nice. Glad it worked out for you.
i just uploaded a pic of my view outside the Y....shows the frozen harbor.....the dark blue line in the distance is the open water...just refresh my pic...
so I just refreshed babble, that didn't do it. I tried clicking on your pic. I guess I will try closing out and coming back in.
open my pic....right click on the window and choose refresh...
Thank you, Pen, you taught me something today!
Very nice view!
ty....this is about a mile and a half from where i live...
very nice. I bet that is a lovely walk on a nice spring day! Where abouts in Maine are you?
there is a boardwalk around the harbor that you can access in good weather...
i am in the midcoast...Rockland....
that would be south of Bar Harbor?
yes.....between there and Portland on the coast...
about halfway if you are driving....shorter distance if you could go by boat...
i am near Camden....
Oh my God, I just fainted. Penquis changed her icon.
well i wanted to show phan my frozen harbor....
I see. We went to Bar Harbor about 10 years ago for an anniversary. My grandparents honeymooned there and returned every year. So, I wanted to see it. So beautiful!
Oh...so the frog will be back...I kind of like the change of scenery...
don't worry, molly.....the frog will be back!
I wasn't...really...worried...
yes, Bar Harbor is very nice....my area is also beautiful....a few very scenic peninsulas in my area...
and lots of islands...
As we drove through Maine, I thought it was lovely!
i would not want to live far from the ocean, i don't think....there is something soothing about it....
yes I agree. I do wish I lived much closer. we are about 3 hours away.
But I do live in a lake community, and that is nice.
There is a lake community in Frederick?
Yup, there is!
It's a man made lake.
Lake Linganore
2nd ab 6/24?
a lake is nice....my brother lives on a nice lake....11 miles long...
I didn't think Lake LIganore was in Frederick. And wow, are you ever lucky to live there.
Linganore
Yes, I do agree, Molly. 20 or so years ago when we were looking here, we saw a killdeer crossing the road. I had to move here for the wildlif.

Good evening Babblers
hi
Pen, I like you harbor pictures.
thanks....it is where i went to exercise today....the Y overlooks the harbor...
They are talking now about some strange new form of weather, this weekend. Something called rain. I hear you don't have to shovel it, but I am not sure such a thing exists.
yes, we might get some here on the coast ....or sleet....or 3-6 in. of snow on Sunday night....
Or, mosty likely, all of the above.
I don't know how you folks survive without snow blowers with all the snow you get.
i use a shovel...the plow guy does the parking lot....just have to dig out my car....and sometimes i shovel the walkway....
Pen, isn't your apartment complex responsible for the walkway?
We have a snow-blower that we share with 3 of our neighbors.
nope....they don't think so....i think if they get a lawsuit from someone who falls, they might reconsider....
Aw, Wht. it's like a little snow commune.
we have to shovel or the mailman won't deliver to the mailboxes....
And we don't usually get this much snow. At least not all at once.
that's a nice plan, wht....
It works out pretty well. We split the cost of maintanence and then each take our turns.
It's nice that you have neighbors who will go in on something like that.
hello, anyone have the 2nd ab6?

It started when our neighbor who was in his 80's at the time, offered to buy us a snow blower if we would take care of his driveway. We said we would split the cost with him. Then other neighbors wanted in on the deal. The first man died this year at 95, and one other person has gone into a nursing home, so now there are 4 left.

hello
Hi TO.
hi...
So when they first got to my unit, they didn't like me. I am a floating nurse and didn't do things they way the other nurse does) But I demonstrated that I care about what I do and therefore them, so they began to like me. Even saying that "We may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but we sure have made up for that." And things were going on fine for a couple of weeks. Then suddenly, they started to hate me again. I have no idea what happened to change things for them, but they just did. I even tried to find out how I could fix things again. Now in general, I don't care if someone doesn't like me or not, but this situation made me feel a little insecure, I mean I do like being liked. So then, this past Sunday, we put Bagheera to sleep, I worked on Tuesday and had them as a patient. I was giving them their medication, legally, I am supposed to stay in the room until the medication is taken. I brought the Mom's in first and then was going to get the daughter's right outside their door, but the internet went down and so I left to get another medication list. When I went in the room to give the daughter her meds, I was waiting. The mother said "You didn't wait while I took my medicine" I explained that the situation prevented me from doing that . Then she said I was the only one that ever stayed in their room while they took their medication. I started to explain that legally I am supposed to and the Mother gave a childish response, mocking what I was saying. I snapped, and said F-it, (but I said the word) and started to walk out of the room. Mom said F you too, and stopped and said that I didn't say F- you, I said F it. Then while I was in the hall outside their room, the were talking about how gloomy I was. So, to make matters worse, I went in the room and said "Yeah, I am gloomy, you wanna know why I am gllomy? Cuz I just put my cat down" Then the mother goes all sarcastic and says "oh Boo Hoo." In a very childish tone. So what I want advise on is how to keep my cool when I feel piled up on. I mean I usually do, but once in awhile, I can't
well when you are really mad about something, you can try to count instead of speaking to give yourself time to calm down a little....sounds simplistic but it can help....
That sounds like a tough situation, phan.
Fireworks
congrats, WHT
i would also try to remind myself that I am glad I am not them....
congrats!
That is true, Pen, I am glad I am not them. Postive side effect of the incident, They don't talk to me, and allow me to do what needs to be done, and they don't complain to me anymore. But they don't even answer my simple questions either.
well it sounds better than having them talk to you....if it's something important, you can always say "Fine, I will let the doctor know that you would not respond to my medical questions."....
yeah
don't fall into the trap of cajoling, repeatedly asking, etc....gives control to them....
yeah. I need to maintain control, and I do that by keeping myself professional.
good going!....take my advice with a grain of salt, but it reminded me of dealing with children.....no use arguing, cajoling, etc....stay matter of fact with them.....hard, but ....
meant, hard to do, but more effective than emotional responses....
very hard. I didn't do well with my kids in that regard. lol
take a few deep breaths before you walk in their room....
This is why I work with compters, phand.
yeah, that's what I have been doing since for the last 2 days.
well that's pretty much all you can do....
And I have been doing my best to cluster my care to minimize my need to interact with them.
people who are miserable to others are usually miserable themselves....
indeed!
it's odd that a mother and daughter would be in the same room, isn't it?....
It's what they want. Not sure of the exact reason they are both in the home at the same time. But that's why they ended up on my unit. They were upstairs in separate rooms.
are they permanent residents?
don't even know that. I sure hope not!
yes!
Good night all. Happy Babbling all.
