hi everyone, just home from bridge
hi flosey, hope you had a good night at bridge
placed second
nice!
it was a fun night - some crazy hands
so glad. Are you playing weekly?
yes, every Monday night - also play alternate saturdays and Friday afternoons
fireworks
wtg Dee
nice that you and your hubby both enjoy bridge. I had an uncle who played contract bridge for years in Atlanta, Georgia.
ty
we seldom play together, he and his partner came in first tonight
oh, good for him! They must be good to place first.
yes, they are a strong pair
Have fun with the grid! Hope you have a nice night and sleep!!
tks Dee and you
probably won't finish the grid, have to pack and be ready to catch the 9:50 am ferry off the island
going to Vancouver for a couple of days
to visit family?
yes, daughters
and a friend is out from Ontario
Great fun! How is your daughter doing?
she's doing very well Dee, it's amazing
That is so wonderful, flosey! I know you all must be doing a happy dance! :)
indeed we are, Dee, very grateful
So thrilled for all of you!
ty
Enjoy the grid ((flosey))
thanks ((Dee))
See you at the flip!
probably not, wont take the time while over there
Have a great time, then! See you when you return!
for sure
good morning all
Hi sprite and hugs
{{hugs}} sprite dearest, and {{hugs}} liz girl.
Hugs to you too Rose
sprite's gone?? i hope she is okay.
I am good, babble had issues
Perhaps just focussed on the grid
hello sweetie
And then again perhaps not! Lol!
red boxes of doom, initialization errors, and now my wordlist is not loading. Sigh.
poor sprite. xoxox
and babble ate my post too. Hello dear Liz, *hugs to you and your husband* Hello dear rose *hugs*
:(
Not at the hugs! At the red boxes
lol. Ok then! More hugs *hugs*... make it a group hug for the 3 of us.
Group hugs
*snuggles in *
there. Chog, grid, wordlist. All working now. *knocks wood* Great to see you both!
Major shock - my camera just refused to talk to my computer! Need to buy a new card for it!
that is frustrating. Do you have many pictures on it?
and you, rose, how are you today?
Not too many! Just some I took today. Camera shop will be able to sort it! No biggie!
ah good, Liz. Better not lose any photos. Picture moments don't usually return.
BBS. Hubby demanding hugs ;)
I got a pretty good night and still I got out of bed hurting all over. No idea what is going on the last few days.
awwwww give your hubby one from me too
and me three
*tries again* How are you today, rose?
okayish. lower back spasms most of the time. even when i am sitting!!
oh that is not good :( *healing vibes* for your lower back.
today don has cleaned out my car. and together we have started sifting through various mounds of stuff. * sigh *
yup that would do it. Rather taxing, sifting through stacks of stuff. Easy to forget you need to walk around every 5 minutes.
yup. exactly. and then just short walks to put stuff away properly once sorted, that too can bring it on, because you tend to think i can do these few at the same time.
Hugs for your back pains Rose
thanx to you both.
aw yes, indeed. Ea5 to bed for you, sweetie. Rest that body.
{{hugs}} for understanding, hin.
always, my friend. Just wish I could make it better.
name that proper noun: one of Buffy's recurring enemies
Haven't wat that in years
Watched
never watched it.
Can only think of spike
we have the series on dvd. Watched every single episode. Ok, the answer is: Darla.
Of course!
:D
sprite, have you seen that there is a new Marigold Hotel film coming out?
no, but you told me so. Can't wait to see it!
Loved the first one
rose sent me the first one. I love it too.
it has richard gere, omg, that man is sooo attractive. still handsome as ever and he is 65 years old.
Not disagreeing ;)
all the original cast including the female dog who flounced off back to england.
ouch... not at all my cup of tea. I don't like his eyes. Sneaky eyes.
oh that is great! And ugh, so she returns? How dare she.
Bit narrow but he's still not too bad
oh, and i may have found a local guy who can come very week and put sometime into my garden. i wanted an "unknown" not someone from Jim's ....
I am more of a sean connery / bruce willis kinda girl
oh woooot nice going, rose. That is awesome.
Hope that works out for you Rose
them too
Sean, yes. Bruce not so much
there we go. Rose can have richard, Liz can have sean, and I will take bruce.
and, of course, our Haz will keep her George... in her cupboard.
Easy!
yay, all sorted. who's going to tell Rob, Peter and DON?
what's to tell? They are big boys, they should know how to share their lego.
Shhhhh! What they don't know won't hurt them
col....
ugh... my girl overslept. That means I am gonna have to walk Terra twice today. Teenagers... sigh.
Grrrr!
for some reason I was convinced 'oudad' was a word.
Sounds familiar so perhaps something similar?
yeah I guess so too.
right, it is aoudad. Which is a phantom.
Time to go. Hugs to you both
*hugs* Liz, for you and for your husband. Have a grand day.
Night!
wait sprite!!
for what, darling. I am here. Not going anywhere yet.
oh it's liz girl going...:-( {{hugs}}
lol. Yeah, Liz is off. I am still with ya, no worries.
sprite, i think i have found a solution to having to wear compression stockings in the hot weather.
oh do tell!
compression-socks.com have ankle support socks, no toes. they cover the whole foot except the toes, like an ankle sock.
sounds good to me. Must check it out. Thanks darling.
40mgHg pressure. i have ordered some. when they arrive i will see how they go.
yeah, let me know!
dentist tomorrow.... brrrrrr
*holds sprite gently* there there sweetie, i am right beside you. is rob going with you?
yes he is, thank God.
good for him.
wish it was over already.
I swear, I'd rather go in for another operation than this.
what were the pluses at your last visit?
ummmm that I was allowed to go back home?
c'mon sprite. you can do better. plus, rob was with you, plus dentist numbed your mouth, plus dentist knew when to stop from your signal...what else?
ummmmm...
I didn't scream, bite, gag or faint?
there you go...
lol
just giving you a head's up. i have taken my meds.
my head's up. Yours is about to nod off :D
fireflies. Chewy grid, for some reason.
WTG SPRITE!!! i am so glad it wasn't just me.
:) Sister of my soul! And of my babble skills.
that left hand a tricked me.
ugh, bottom left a...
I kinda had trouble all over the grid.
also known as the bottom right A. Lol.
roflol...oh my....told you i had taken my meds...
the other left....col
My husband always mixes up left and right too. We actually call it after him... when he says 'right' we ask: Is that a Van Dijk's right or a right right?
ok sweetie... off to bed with you. Go rest that back. I hope you can sleep and tomorrow will find you in less pain. *hugs*
{{hugs}} my darling. hope your day improves. xoxox
Is it my imagination or does the site regularly have tantrums at this time of day (13:00 here, as I take my lunch break and want to play)?
Seems to always happen around 6 am here....
6 am my tie kay every morn
thats time.. its early and its cold..
its when the site backs up - updates rankings, etc. It basically 'shuts down' for two minutes. Words are always recorded tho.
not your imagination - happens everywhere (11am here).
lol I thought someone was chasing me back to work
... or maybe I scare everyone when I enter :)
It's always my cue to get up and get ready for work (have a day off today so I can play more! :D)
OR: its when the iiluminati (new world order); FBI, CiA; government institution of choice; look everyones computers to see what they are doing.
Interesting how the tantrum affects people in different time zones. Thanks for the input, all
lol at Dachef. Good luck to them with that one
Dachef: they are very punctual then ;)
true - couldnt be government then. Too organised.
Can't be our government, they're incapable of being punctual
Lol!
Good morning ,everyone:)
Hi crossy!
Lunch time over, back to work. Hope you're well, my friend {{{big hugs}}}
Hello kids.
Howdy Kaytee, scrabby
I am well, Kaytee, although we are a tad chilly at minus 26c this morning
Minus 1 F here.
I found 92 and must now get ready for work. ENjoy the day, kids.
It is funny, I am slowly starting to forget the old temperature conversions as the years go by. Canada went metric in the 70,s. Once my generation is done, the kids growing up now will be 100% metric in all things.
lol. As crazy as it sounds there are kids in my class who cannot tell time on an analog clock:(
If you say quarter past 2 or half-past 3, they have no idea
ahh found a nice in 7/40 8/60 combo:)
Hello1
Crossy, how did the exam go?
Howdy, car:)
glad you're here. They say talking to onesself is not a good sign:))
It was hard, car. Not because of what was asked of me in the questions. I knew all that. it was simply because of the time limit on the test;(
I'm sure you did great!
I missed an entire third of the exam due to time!
Went into it with an 88% though:)
Can you ask the prof for more time on the next one? I have friends who have done that as they are not strong test takers with the added pressure of time limits.
That was the big final exam. there are not others to come:(
Well, I will think good thoughts!
Crossy is all done:)
been an interesting 2 years:)
Congratulations! Well done you!
congrats crossy!
I finally get to wear some robes... after a 33 year wait:)
ty Une:)
AWESOME!
Good morning, congrats on graduating :)
Ty Sukee:)
Only think bad about taking so much English is that you cringe every time you go onto internet news sites:(
I bet.
I fired off another letter to cnn.com offering my services lol
I do a lot of research on Chamber of Commerce sites and I always want to ask them to hire me :)
diel
I go one further; I take the article in question, underline the errors, and offer corrections, and send it back to them:)
Bad writing and bad design a lot of them.
lol
it is more readability, and improper word usage than it is actual spelling errors.
it is almost like they send it to India for copy editing.
or China
Though it is not quite so bad as "chinglish"
Or do some crowd sourced editing.
well, that is not much better that relying on Wiki for 100% accuracy.
I used to write on a site that hired people on Amazon turk to check the articles.
People are paid cents.
I am sure
And you get what you pay for.
I tried doing stuff for Amazon Turk but the earning were not worth the time.
yes, I tried stuff on Elance.com as well and it is only pennies per article. You do it more as a hobby to get your name out there than anything else
You keep churning out perfect copy until it is them contacting you.
I never did have much luck with the freelance sites because I didn't want to start doing it for so little. But I do know people who have been successful.
I was lucky with the place I write for now and I am sticking with that.
It is a tough grind.
I saw one where they wanted you to take a rough draft-- nothing more than ideas and bullet notes really, and make a full marketable book out of it--all for the grand sum of $56.00
Plus you had to sign off on it:(
Think it was a cooking book
And like you said, I bet they got what they paid for.
Taking a break. HAGD all
hi, bye :)
I suppose my usage of authonomy.com is a "crowd-sourced" type of editing, but I never, ever use it for final drafts. besides, stuff that gets the not on there can actually hit the Harper/Collins editors desk.
Ok, be back later. Have a good day.
hi all. any 8s to clue me?
hi mkg,...cl8---it is much cl8 and overcast than yesterday
ty got it.
yw
hey annie,and tx for the cl8 :-)
Hi Une, How's the big freeze? It is 4 degrees here.
where are you annie? i am in maryland and it is cold here too but not 4 degrees.
Brooklyn
stay warm.
thanks, I will.
still cold here -- the big warmup is this coming weekend -- will have temps around 50 degrees :-)
taking ice forever to melt because it was so thick!
The ice will melt and, hopefully, not freeze again. That is what happened here. We had a warmish weekend and then the freezing weather again.
good morning all. very cold here too
help with lower A in right column pls.
that's what happened here too -- everyone was excited by the rain, thinking it would "wash away the ice" -- actually it washed away the little "top-snow" I had that was giving me a little traction! LOL
hi peri
found one
another big problem we have now, after sooooo many days of thick ice and bitter cold: huge potholes --lots and lots of folks with vehicle damage from all the potholes on the interstates
Une, be careful driving and walking, please
oh well . . . i'm just glad i have places to put my feet so I don't slip and fall when I take my dogs out :-)
i've gotten so used to taking baby steps walking my pups -- and the 2 poor seniors have had a hard time staying upright too!
ok -- off to deliver food to soup kitchen -- byeee :-)
Im very senior and I am very very careful. There is snow covering ice and I too take baby steps.
peri, did you get the al6/21---mountain region
I think she said she found one...help with the bottom E?
phae, dont have it, sorry
found them...el6/24 and ea5/12
found the ea5, thanks
yw...the ed6 is a pt
oops...el6 sorry
Anynody here?
yep
Hi phaeton
me too
morning!
I am waiting for a patient to show up here at the Indian Reservation Clinic. My 8 and 830 patients did not show up.
How are you?
starting out slow?
Hi folks. My walk with the fluffs froze parts of my face
Common here.
Brrr, bichon.
hi bichon, quite cold here too
I don't blame some of those patients
Yes, bichon. Why bring a baby outside?
Certain objects in the interior of my nasal passages were frozen
sinusicles
That is a sign of coldness outside--how fast one's nose hairs freeze.
exactly phae
Haha, phaeton.
hello...
hi pen, cold up your way
car would not start....had to call AAA...one hour backup....
good morning, pen
Hi penquis
not too bad here...above 10
1 below here now...
It was minus 1 on my drive here an hour ago. HIgh will be 14 later.
I haven't even passed halfway and am not seeing any more words.
a lot of past tenses in there today
Fast forward 6 months to August when we're complaining about the oppressive heat and humidity
or if it ends with a D...pl
Morning all! A balmy minus 18 here this morning...GAH!
I prefer the cold over the oppressive heat.
Brrr, Angela
I'm going to try and remember this when it's 95 this summer... :D
Are you on top of Mt. Washington Angela
Nope...just tropical NH.
cl8/55 = more overcast
I need a cl4 for the first al 6/24...anyone?
Minus 18?
4 degrees here, cold enough for me....hi ruru
Hi Ruru.
MINUS. :)
BBS
Yikes
Think Warm
Wow
It is impressive when I walk out the door and my hair instantly turns to icicles - hehe
We've been in the 70's here....but summer is coming...ugh.

good clue rb!
dr7, dr7, dr7, i made it out of clay
Good morning
thanks, joseph
Hi River, RB
thanks, angela (smile)
hi, all, I usually lurk.
Hey RB...I am a lurker myself...but have the odd day where I can chat a bit.
angela--I have a camp (cottage to most of you) in Vermont so we're summer neighbors. I'm near Burlington, though.
TY for dr7 and no7 clues.
Hi RB--our great writer.
I have one of your books, RB
thanks, scrab--you're one I watch a lot. I have been gone most of this month, and I HAVE to get to the writing today--or at least scrabbling (good word) through the piles of paper to find where I was. My deadline is self imposed--only began this saga when I was thiorteen--found the earliest manuscript a couple weeks ago in an ancient file cabinet. I think of you with all thiose kids--how often I took mine to a pediatrician.
I'm all the way down by Brattleboro - about 3 hours from there... Glad you're not here to experience this!
I just started reading "Pillars of the Earth" last night and Ken Follett, in his prologue, talks about the long writing process for that epic.
Anniebrook! Which one? One of the saga? Or the VErmont book? O.P. but available--
RB, The Taste of Spruce Gum
Scrab, one of the pieces of "Back matter" for Volume 4 of my trilogy is why it's taken so long--begun when I was a kid, and now I'm old--my self imposed deadline (while my relatives who are hired to help) all fidget) is my head, or death--thugh I'm v active. nvy you cross countrying--I gave up skis and bike, I mustn't break anything. But miss them.
Volume 4...of...your TRIlogy?
Annieebrook, then you have the one the reviewers have considered best. It was second in line for the newbery but they weren't advertising runners up then, or I'd be rich. It's based on an old woman's memories--I split her into mother anc child. The lumber camp on Lillington is real--I've visited the spot.
josdphjames--sometimes trilogys lop over.
Then don't they become... Quadlogies or something?
Yes, I enjoyed the book. The book was originally from East Jordan Public School--K-8 Media Center. I bought it on Amazon.
joseph, you made RB speechless.
oops
sorry. I shouldn't think with my finger on a key. It's been called for years a trilogy, but I have too much material. It's a dsort of joke. I just call it now the epic, and hardly anybldy buys it or if so uses it for a door stop. See roundbarnstories.com.
and I meant Killington Mountain. Near Rutland.
lol JJ
My Dad's family is all from Rutland RB - small world
taking a break, be back later
Grandma Vi, who told me about life at the lumber camp in the first decade of the last century, lived in Rutland. Not my grandma, that's Wisconsin. But she had family on our lake, and we were close. Fortunately her relatives I said bad (but true) things about in the book all died before publication so I didn't have to hide the crimes, just change the names
and now I gotta get to work. I've enjoyed chatting. I enjoyed listening earlier to the talk between Crossy and Sukee on editing. Have a good (cold) day, all. It's v low here, too, in cnetral Illinois.
hello

I am sad and miss him. He would have been 12 in April, my oldest bunny ever. So I still look for him throughout the day with routines.
Scrabs, did you have trouble with the spelling in Top Letters today? It's sometimes a problem for me
RIP Gandalf and ((((Scrabbs))))
I used a word that is not a word. Hahaha.
I get so frustrated when that happens to me
I could have checked the spelling but I said, "What the hell, I'll try it."
what is Top Letters?

you know what i say about spelling and typing?
?
i can spell i just can't type
I envy the touch-typist. My book would have been done long ago if I had that skill.
what do you mean by touch typist cross?
I had a typing class in high school. Didn't know that it would come in so useful.
me too pen
dipe
dile
oops
That means a person who can type accurately and quickly without having the need to look at the keyboard
i dont think that will ever be me
I am told it is all repetition and muscle training in the hands, but it is beyond me.
I can do that. It slows me down if I look
everyone slows down if they look that is normal
Typing teacher was a task master.
i need the ar 5/10 not ending in an l?
ends in a vowel
i actually had to give a guy in my class some of my paper so he could do the work in the class. (i think it was a typing test to be exact)?

su5/14, the last one?
Good Afternoon, Everyone. How is the grid today?
grinding through it
I won't have much time to do it until this evening; I'm trying to decide if ti's worth starting or not (& then again; I don't finish most of the grids I start; so maybe it doesn't matter?)
what the hell, go for it
Yesterday's grid was hard to get through (for me at least); so I guess that's why I wonder about this one.
go for it, not a bad grid
LOL, Marc! :-D I'll dive in! (I gotta go for the gusto, right?)
Okay, I'm hooked now
yep and when you find the last su5/14, I will need a clue from you.
SU + children get the head ***e (bug) but put the vowel on the end.
Thanks for the clue, Zoozz
Welcome.
head lice doesn't work so I can't figure out which other bug there is?
That is the bug..put the 'i' on the end.
***e means use the *** letters only
OK thanks

Sausages wrapped in bacon.
In pastry.
It is bacon here.
oh - lol - and thats what we called sausages in yorkshire pudding
We call the yorkshire pudding one...toad in the hole.
Zooz, do you fix cheese and onion pie?
Never tried it, Bea. Sounds good though.
I need to make it soon. Always comforting.
But now I am off to make mac and cheese for dinner...
Just googled it..there are many many recipes out there.
Hope you enjoy your meal, Bea.

congrats!
Soodle, the other night when it was 1 degree, I had a shot of Jameson and thought of the old boys in the nursing home.
Ah, brilliant, Molly. You were in good company, so!
bye all - back at the flip ...
Hi, soodle et al
Hello Jax :-)
Soodle are you feeling better
hi soodle, jaxx....
Hi, pen
Back on top form again, Jax. Thanks for asking. :-). Hi Pen
This year's flu is severe. The flu vaccine wasn't up to the mutation
I didn't bother getting the flu jab, as it must be 15 years since I had the flu. I thought I was immune. I was wrong!
It only covered 3% of folk who had it so chances are you would have caught it anyway
Still, nice to know you are back to your usual self
Well with mediocrity attained - nbs & nbt, I'm off to bed. Night all. :-)
Night, soodle. sleep well
g'nite!
How are you, Pen?
ok....just tired of winter...
Is it still snowing your way?
we expect 3 to 6 inches tonight....
my car would not start this morning (coldest night of the year)....had to get AAA to come and start it....
Usually the UK gets your weather after you have finished with it. Not this year as the Jetstream has changed
lucky for you...
We have wintry showers and gales but none of the white stuff seems to stick down here in Devon
we have had over 7 feet in my area this winter....and most of that has been in the last month....
How do you cope?
where are you pen?
maine...
ok
downeast maine (most northeast) has gotten more....
Maine is a beautiful state but I could not deal with all of that snow
7 feet seems more than enough to me. Three inches causes chaos here.
three inches is nothing here....not worth shoveling... ;o)
Perhaps the british are not as hardy as americans
well we have just gotten used to living here in winter weather...
years ago, snow didn't cause chaos. The schools were still open, the traffic still moved, planes still flew. I can remember ploghing through over knee height snow to get to school and once we were there the heating had failed so we had bunsen burners all over the place.
ploughing even
ah...perhaps we are not as tough as we used to be...
We were definitely made of sterner stuff.
perhaps...but i know my parents would say that they were made of sterner stuff than I as well...
nope of us are as tough as we used to be
*none
perhaps central heating etc has made us softer. My husband was a shellfish fisherman and he used to clear his sorting board of snow before starting work.
very true...
i
Our parents were made of sterner stuff. They fought in wars, went through a depression, did not have the convenience of modern appliances...the list goes on and on.
Hi. Just doing the grid and somehow sent a single letter.
We are pretty stern, too Molly.
I have problems convincing my husband that at 70 with arthritis he will get tired far quicker than he used to.
My husband has no concept of slowing down. He still thinks he can carry telephone poles.
agreed, molly....and i was raised in that context....i remember getting a winter coat and my mother saying "you sure you like it? you'll be wearing it for three or more years"....
That's OK as long as he doesn't try.
Yeah Pen. I had school shoes that lasted a whole school year (at least, little Buster Browns) Not 4 or 5 pair to wear during the year.
yes, i remember school clothes, play clothes, and church clothes....not that many outfits, just that some were "saved" for those places....
School clothes were uniforms for me. 12 long years of uniforms. : S
none for me....but had to wear dresses or skirts for 12 + years....it was even expected in college my freshman year and that was a private nonsectarian college...
The sole concession to being in the sixth form was not to have to wear a beret.
i love this thread! my son has 6 long-sleeved shirts that are getting small, but i'm trying to limp through till spring when he can switch to short sleeves!
When I went to college we weren't allowed to wear trousers.
i remember when my brother fell in the school yard and tore his new woolen pants....my mother was on the phone to the nuns complaining....she had just bought them!
I recall boys wearing shorts until they were 13 and my baby brother used to stuff his pockets full of bits of clocks and the shorts gradually gave way to gravity.
hah....no shorts at my school...in high school, boys had to wear collared shirts and ties...clip ons for the most part... ;o)
These were called shorts but were more 'longs' and made of flannel.
we had white woolen blazers for special occasions i high school....but no day to day uniforms...
We had the full show - pleated skirts (nothing above the knee), white shirts and striped ties, school scarf in red and black and a black blazer complete with school badge (nulle diem sine linea : never a day without a line)
a friend of m ine had a son....shortest of all the 70 or so sixth graders....tallest of all the 70 or so eighth graders.....it was VERY hard to keep him in pants that fit...
I imagine that his trouserd looked as if the cat died - they were at half mast. lol
trousers even
lol...luckily his mother could sew....learned to buy longer legs and make a wide hem so they could be let down...
Clever mum
My mother used to knit our stockings in itchy grey wool.
my mother sewed me dresses and skirts...
I loathed those stockings. No tights in those days.
luckily, she was a good seamstress and she had good taste!....my uncle worked in a woolen mill and he often brought us nice plaid cloth...
And now it is time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!
Billy Joel gives away all of his front row tickets to random people in the cheap seats so that the front row isn't always just wealthy people.
About school clothing in days of yore?
Hi, Crossy
nice...
Howdy, Jaxx:))
Are you in the middle of exams?
hello,all.
Hi, TO
hi TO...
In the depression flour and feed companies used to make the sacks out of patterned material so the ladies of the house would have material to make dresses with...
Exam is all done:)
Good. Time to relax
oven beeping
Yes indeed. It has been a long year-and-a-half
I am not quite as old as that but must admit it sometimes feels like it
Lifelong learning keeps the brain active
is your wife still doing her course or has she finished too?
I totally enjoyed it. Additionally, I received great pleasure in busting the class grading curves on some of those lazy kids who were in my classes:)
No, the mrs will go till june, then come back in September for two more classes.
My, you two are keen
Well, what the heck; may as well finish what we failed to do the first time round the mullberry bush:)
isn't it strange how education is wasted on the young?
what is the mrs studying, crossy?
Mrs. is going to take some math, some law classes, and we shall see after that.
With me it was 90% English courses.
ah...nice....i went to a liberal arts college and took a wide variety of courses....never regretted that...
are you taking more English?....or moving on to something else?
You cannot make a mistake by taking courses:)
I am going to try and get my foot in the door on some commercial copy editing work.
help with my two last words pls. de6/30 and 1st re6/21

evening all!
*Adjusts 2Bit's flasher trenchcoat
I still have my big smile tho!
Hi again. We won't take away your smile, dan2; you deserve it!
hahahaha
Hi TO; how are you this evening?
hi, nef; i am fine. just finished making a batch of meatballs to freeze.
That sounds good. I'd made some chicken Marsala a while back & froze the extra; so we had that for supper
that is something i;'ve never made.
I can't remember how to fix meals for 2 people anymore; we're putting our seal-a-meal and freezer to good use.
It was the first time I've ever made it too; it was good, but I did learn that I probably bought the wrong Marsala wine for it (I bought the dry & probably should have bought the sweet)
i already have a large bottle of burgundy that i use to cook. i need to get some sherry and white wine. a bottle o f marsala just would not fit.
oh yes, i do believe it is sweet marsala.
I added sugar and some other stuff so it did turn out pretty good
I don't drink; so (for me) going in to the liquor store to buy that wine kind of overwhelmed me. And the prices! I used to drink; but it was cheaper back then!
brnady confuses me. when a recipe calls for brandy, i have no idea what to use.
LOL! I wouldn't know what kind to cook with either
I know that they say buy wine that you'd drink; not cooking wine. But I doubt if a person should cook with expensive brandy.
hi all. would love to get all the 8s. i have cl, but what are stats for the others please? i am not half way yet. so no list.
i am conflicted; want to finish but watching "the italians" on PBS. my paternal grandparents were treated as aliens.
sorry, mkg; I don't have any 8's yet. (I'm just playing with this grid; not trying to finish
and this episode is about WW II
2 of the 8's build off of the white fluffy things you see in the sky.
I'm watching that too, TO.
Thanks phand!
I'm not sure if I have come across many 8s yet. One is a cl which is the suffix meaning more of. The other that I have is in which works off the in 7 just above meaning past tense.
my uncle received the purple heart for service in italy, but his parents were under suspicion. this is something one never learned - all focus on the japanese
Yes. I think the thing about Italians was that so many more Catholics and that aspect of suspicion is also rarely talked about.
Thanks, stidg!
yw
my father mentioned it in passing. seeing it dramatized this way is jarring.
I haven't watched the program it comes on late here on the west coast.
TO, this is So Sad!
time to change the subject. ty
The thing is we can choose how to act toward others. Babble on!! One for all and all for one. Can you tell I'm rere***ing the Three Musketeers?
lol
here, taste a meatball they smell good
Okay, have any of you ever had your DNA test for genealogy? My sister had hers done and it came back showing we are Irish British and slightly Scandinavian
Oh. I do love meatballs!! We had a veal dish for dinner tonight and it was so nice with a winter squash.
it is too hard to find good veal, it is not PC. i use pork cutlet instead. i like it better
No. I have members of an extended family line that have done that and it is always interesting.
Dang, TO! I may have to cook meatballs tomorrow (I swear I can smell them from here!) ;-)
i have not.
oh, sorry! lol. try the cookie recipe, too. i ate them all already
anyone have in6?
no in 6 here.
We knew our Mom's family was Irish; and our Dad's last name was Norwegian; but we ended up being mostly Irish. We don't even have a stray southern European in the mix at all
or either in5?
Scandinavians who stayed home? Didn't get on any of those Viking cruises we read so much about?
(I'm looking for both in 5 & 6 now)
oh, i just received another brocure.
Nary a one, stidg. I find that very strange.
Especially because there are several family members who have very Asian appearing eyes
We have a man from Norway who came to the New York area. His last name was Toll. He lived on the Mohawk River and traded beaver pe***. Because he could swim, the Indians called him "Fish."
