hello my darling. {{hugs}}
*hugs rose* Hello my dear friend. Good evening. How was your day?
cold!! mwahhh. lollll
lol :) *sends warm hugs and a very soft blanket*
*snuggling* thanx dear. how are you today?
pretty ok. Some horrible dreaming going on, but otherwise good. Seeing the internist this afternoon.
* holds tightly onto sprite's hand* i am right beside you sweetie.
that will help :) I have to go alone, Rob couldn't fix it at work this time.
what is the worst doc can tell you?
that it is too dangerous for me to be operated upon.
nope, that's not going to happen. i've put in the word with the Big Guy.
ah good, then it will all work out just fine :D
* grinning * xoxox
and what was nice: Rob asked if we could switch cooking days. So I cooked yesterday and today all I have to do is see the internist and walk terra.
well that should ease the day a bit. is it difficult to get to the doc?
mwah, not too difficult, just taxing. I can drive up there, but must park in the parking garage and then walk quite a bit.
can you give yourself some extra time, so that you can walk it in stages?
Not really, there are no benches or anything. But I will go in time so I can walk slowly at least.
how uncivil of the local council not to provide seating along their paths.
so very true, lol! Guess I should make a sandwich board with "Give us benches NOW* and wear it while walking there.
fireflies. Not too hard today.
WTG SPRITE!!!! agreed, i sailed through it too
Hi and hugs and congrats, Sprite
hi and {{hugs}} liz girl
hi Liz :) *hugs*
How are you both?
doing fine, and you? And your beloved?
have you had snow liz?
Trying to keep warm
No snow or frost that I've seen but pretty cold last night.
Very cold wind today, though 16 C and lovely in sunny sheltered spots - if you could find them.
i expect being so close to the ocean, the wind would not allow a frost.
Saw a pic of snow by a sign saying "welcome to sunny Queensland"
dress in layers... put on warm socks... don't sit still for too long :) Advice from someone living in colder regions.
evening all :)
hello mrp
hey ya mrp
I guess there was frost on Tamborine.
Dug out my long sleeved t shirts!
Hi mrp

I put on the heater tonight... bloody cold
Good advice sprite

Oven is on too - tho that's for dinner.
oh sorry sprite, I just saw you said hi... was in the grid. I did not ignore you

Good morning.
hi sukee :)
Hi Kate :)
Good morning, everybody:)
Hello crossy.
hi crossy :)
Hody, Sukee, Kate:)
howdy*
I wonder if any of our Baltimore Babblers are a bit richer today... armoured car spilled bags of cash all over the highway :)
Could be, problem it that the irs would treat it like a lottery win and it would be taxable income:))
hi crossy, et al
((mrp))
they are threatening to use traffic cams to try and identify the scoopers of cash... party poopers
How much hit the road?
they didn't say.
but lots...even all ones would be a chunk :)
ni6, please?
lol, I fondly remember our one dollar bills. As a younger fella I used to get pay cheque all cashed int ones. That way my wallet looked like I was loaded:)
into*
too funny!
I miss our ones and twos as well... in fact, I miss the penny... ah, the good old days
hi marc, just started, sorry
np
ni ... person using a double consonant
marc... person who likes to smell... s****** but without the s
well, i agree with them on the pennies. they were a pita. Not to mention the fact that near the end it was costing 2.5 cents to make one:)
hi dose and mrp, ty for the ni 6 :)
thanks
I could use a clue for any F on the 5th column.
all good have to go sleep. only 9pm but so buggered. niters all :)
Or the F in the 1st column :)
I can be rather devilish on occasion.. thought it was fun to let the cashier ring everything up $14.57....let them push cah tendered and THEN hand them the 2 cents, stand back and watch the confusion ;)
fe5 is a shitty word
... comes after fourth
nite all :)
doh, TY :)
feel better mrp\! bye
... or two of them .... ... and two flutes
And I found the F in the 1st column
Ty dos, got them all. I had the single of the flute :)
and the player :)
lol, Kate. the kids still vapor lock at the registers when i give them extra change to get a 5 dollar bill back instead of a pile of coins.
nbt
even some of the older ones, too used to relying on the machine to do the math for them ;)
... it's why I got into teaching ... ... high school juniors or seniors at a fast food cash register ... had to figure out the change because the computers were down ... ... they had never heard of subtraction ... ... they were trying to memorize all the different possible combinations
you've got your work cut out for you, they're too busy teaching the test, to teach common sense and reasoning
... they don't teach the test ... there is no test to teach to ... ... but you're right ... they don't teach reasoning in elementary school anymore ... so by the time they're in high school they don't realize that math is all about reasoning ... and they don't want to do it ... because it's work ... ... using a calculator isn't work
My kid was rammed through high school so bloody fast that he is now back at school as an adult trying to learn what he missed:(
<----not impressed with the new ciriculum
... very common situation ... assuming that he has learned that learning is useful ... consider yourself lucky
is the ch 8 related to the 7 before it?
... yeah ... I startled a bunch of people on the curriculum committee when I pointed out that they've taken all the math out of the math curriculum ... ...
yes sukee, the most
Well, i told him after he finished high school that he was not going to just lay on my couch playing video games and emptying my fridge. it was either get a job slinging fries or coffee or go back to school.
TY Kate :)
Down to 4
wow! go sukee go!
I was back in school after 33 years and just dragged him through the doors with me:)
... I have an impression that many of them believe that the parents will continue to feed them
... because that has been their entire life ... so what else is there to do or what else need they do?
that's because many parents will continue to coddle their little darlings ;-/
... of course ... I realize that it is hard to get work now ... meaningful work ...as hard as it has been since the 30's
... I'm afraid that you're right there Kate ... ... or that the parents really don't care
I think they put too much on them - they need that extra year of high school just to mature a bit before going on to higher education
But, have to go for now, have to finishg later, down to 3 :)
ever since "my generation" of "dinks" we,ve had problems... when they had kids, the solution was "just throw money at them"
Getting rid of grade 13 was a mistake
bye sukee, see you tonight
Funny thing is they get rid of the higher grades, then try to get them in full time classes at 3 or 4
yes it was crossy! now they pay university fees to relearn what they should have gotten in high school
... personally, I agree with you ... ... but it does get to be hard to explain when Ontario was the only jurisdiction in North America with a publicly funded fourth plus oneth year of high school
it is a mess.
hard to explain, but better results... if we are keeping 4 years of high school instead of 5, we need to take a page out of Britain's book and have a gap year.
Tough the learning centres are worth their weight in gold. Seems they are great at catching them after they fall through the cracks, but terrible at letting them fall in the first place
though
attrition rates from grade 13 were lower than from grade 12s
The last class I was a helper in was Business computing. We started with a class of 33 and finished with 12. Out of that 12, four failed.
the pressure is very strong to push the kids through.. saw it when I went back to do that computer course... teachers literally begging kids to turn in something - anything so they can give them a pass...
ouch!
That is what i see in many classes still, kate
but the few that shine, ahh they are so worth it. You see them really "get it" and fly.
I'd like to say they are unprepared responsibility-wise for university, but from what I've seen (not a lot) standards have been lowered there too.... I don't think the sheepskin is worth as much as it used tobe.. now anyone can get in and anyone can get one if they just show up
Was teaching one girl the APA format, and by the end she was showing me nuances of it that I never knew:)
On the internet there is a copy of the entrance exam for Harvard from the year 1899. it is astounding!
... they are just as smart as the smartest of any past generation .. ... but as a generation they've been given a rotten set of values
:) learning can happen when you least expect it
too true dose, and a bar set too low for all but the most driven
http://tinyurl.com/ohc75xx
I love working with the few that actually get it and want it:)
... that's why people get into teaching ... it can be extremely rewarding
lol, if you look at that 1899 test, check out the math problems!
... but more and more people are just too worn out to care anymore ... ... so if I give them 52 they're happy and I'll never see them again and I get paid for it
yes, many care only enough to just get a pass. it is all they want
... yeah ... but I can pull out a training manual from a Toronto publishing house in 1899 and they make identical comments to what we make today about kids not knowing enough math and being unable to calculate and not doing enough practice
plus ca change, plus le meme chose ;)
Age, however, lends perspective. I took it as a challenge and got angry of my mark was below a 90% There was nothing finer that us "old farts" busting the grading curve of the class and watching the kids give us all a second look:)
i think socrates was complaining about it too... one of those old greek guys for sure...
Especially in the college and uni prep courses:)
Well, it is all greek to me now as well:))
good for you crossy!
... okay ... but to them it often just shows how silly you are because you're doing something that isn't worth doing for them ... It's scary
why try when you can party hearty and still pass?
Silly? I took ENG4U just for the hell of it. It wasn't required for my mandatory course. Managed to drag 3 of the kids along with me:)
Though The Scarlet letter was a royal pain in the caboose:)
I preferred Othello:)
Told them "You can do it now, or do it as a pre-requisite later.."
... I'm sure you did ... and I'm sure you managed to show the three that it was useful, important and even fun ... but a great many believe that all high school education is a complete and utter waste of their time because all knowledge is on the internet ... who reads and why should I read ... and no one does calculations ... ... if they don't believe school is useful or valuable ...( and a great many of them don't) ... then they don't learn and twenty years from now they take the society down with them
Though I partied when i was their age. Was it not the exact reason why I was back decades later after a full career?? lol
thunderstorms this afternoon and tomorrow, humidity moving in big time :(
... oh well ... too depressing ... and I've got a tutoring session to prepare for ... ... gotta go ... ... luck and fun to all
bye dose, sorry for the downer... too many old farts grumbling about the new generation...
Sorry, did not mean to depress. i find it interesting, and like tossing stuff around to turn some of them around.
I will cease grumbling.
If I did not like it, i would not volunteer my time at the school. there is hope:)
have to get ready, sorry to pop in and out...a good grumble never hurt anyone ;)
Yes, the rain is starting here. Hope we get a good thunder storm. I love them;)
we're supposed to get the rain starting at noon :( I wish it would hold off until I get home....

Good morning, all!
Interesting, now web sites are coming up that are blocked immediately unless you like them on FB. I give those sites a pass. Too pushy.
Howdy, Judi.
Haven't experienced that, Crossy. Would avoid them too.
Am I the only one who thinks its NUTS that there are gun free zones on US military bases?
No Judi, I think it's nuts. Especially after all the attacks on military bases.
Thank you. Personally, I think our homeland military should be walking around armed to the teeth.
good morning friends....out of curiosity - does anyone else click on the babble link and say "please be a big grid, please be a big grid" while it loads?
lol. No, just you, Trif.
I'd like to know how the Chatanooga shooter got on base in the first place
Yes, Molly. That is a very good question.
he may have known someone on the base, or had a reason to be there, like a groundskeeper or such
phantom: sheriff
Yeah, I keep believing that one is there too
thanks molly

lodger?
im rooster sitting, and not a crow out of him this morning. I fear he has, quite literally, flown the coop
I can't say that I have ever heard of someone "rooster sitting" before
im one of a kind, molly :)
Truly. Rooster sitting sounds like something Lucy would do.
maybe he's a transgender chicken trif?
Ill call him Caitlyn
maybe he's afraid you'll foster him?
That would make him a roosther.
hello...lone F stats pls
or he saw the KFC buckets in the trash
hi phae. it's a 5.18
ty
ruru, lol....I have a KFC license plate nailed to the coop that says "Isn't it time for some really good chicken?"
Oh! The insensitivity! That rooster was probably a robotic PETA drone.
nono, I assure you, he's quite normal.
I fear his missed his flock and legged it. oh dear
maybe he's on a different time clock
poor little guy
Is it just me or is any one else creeped out by the new Colonel Sanders?
omg, bzznbea, we were JUST saying that the other day! Def not just you.
Thank goodness!
honestly, I can't believe the family signed off on it
what's the difference with the new guy?
I haven't seen the new Col. Sanders yet. The new Ronald McDonald is pretty creepy too.
Ronald McDonald looks like a child-molester
I think he looks and sounds like a perv.
I saw some great graffiti once on the subway in boston - a PERFECT rendering of the Burger King on a cross, with "Burger Christ" scrawled under it. Irreverent, but it made me larf
well onion rings kind of look like halos trif?
ok - my curiosity is getting the better of me....gonna go check on the rooster.
Hope nothing made a meal of Mr. Rooster.
Fireworks, by the way.
*politely claps for Judi*
Most of the KFC franchises here have forgotten how to cook chicken properly. They do not let the oil get up to temp and they use it for far too long. Des not help that the chicken they use are utility birds and only by the narrowest margin before the fda calls it for pet food.
I have to stay and wait for the fate of the bird.
Not to mention that dollar for dollar, it is the most expensive take- out food going atm.
I gave up eating deep fried food years ago. *SOB*
:(
I have it once a year judi
Not that it has helped me lose any weight. Cruel, relaly.
You are probably better off, Judi:)
there's a place near me that makes great buttermilk fried chicken
Shut. Up.
*lip smacking good too*
I gave up smoking in2002 and got asthma in 2004--life is funny, Judi:)
Mr. rooster is just fine. happily crowed his fool head off as I approached. just needed someone to talk to, I guess :)
Ah. A happy ending. Thanks, Trif. And congratulations. You've found the first rooster that needs to be awakened by a human.
we can all relax now about the rooster
Though we have a fish and chip place here where the beer-battered halibut fillets are so good, you would crawl on your hands and knees for a mile to get some;0
oh.. I haven't had fish and chips in a long time
there is a place near us that is heaven on a plate....best fish and chips I have ever had in my life
Off I go! *POOF*
ec6?
no clue phae, sorry
ec6...sea urchin
I actually got it! next week: hell freezes over
wtg
found an ec 5/14 but not the 6
so...I have this friend, who suffers terribly from depression, and I feel awful for her. So we get together now and then, and today is one of our meet days.....would you still love me if I said I was kind of dreading it today? It's such a hard thing, to have to support her horrible life choices....
Ec6 - rhymes with a type of broccoli
Being a caregiver --in any capacity, can be draining after a while.
I try to gently suggest that maybe she should take some time alone, not have to run through the man roster *quite* so quickly.....as I really do feel this would be much healthier for her psyche...but she can always defend and defend and rationalize.
trying to argue with someone in love is like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon.
and yes, i stole that
in love!? snort....
she is in their beds. That's about it.
or lust, or need, or needs to be needed,
there you go
it is hard to watch someone derail themselves time and time again:(
she needs a new place to live, and keeps MAJORLY hinting that I should offer her a place. No. nope. Nada. NEIN darling!
NOPE! Do not let her move in!
she. would.never. leave.
You life will become a shambles
Where does she live now?
it would be the end of valentine, that is for sure, but oh my god, the GUILT I feel!
Trif, you are right to be wary. "Defend and rationalize" is a serious sign of someone mentally unbalanced.
Bzznbea, she lives with an aunt, who took her in "for a couple of months" - - she's been there for over two years
she sounds like a user
yup
I just feel so bad for her. She can't catch a break.
some people like their lives like that trif
Some people don't want a break.
She sounds a bit bipolar.
I do like her! when on balance she is very, very funny and nice. but man - she is exhausting too
even today will be a challenge. I will be ready for her to go, have something else on my schedule, and she will stay. and stay. and stay.
back.
I just got a bipolar tenant out of my house with her 2 kids. It cost me lots of money.
Hello everyone
hi car
I am finding that this is the biggest issue about working in a school. People think that because I am not in school for the summer, I have time to do all their errands, or can spend endless days with them. I have things to do this summer too! I have some exams I need to take, things to do at my house, etc.
CAR!!!! my dearest!

you trip looked awesome, Aloy!
your even
it was, peri! glad to be back home for a while.. lots of great memories
I loved the pictures but not sure where you actually went
are you planning another trip?
basically we went down the Danube from Budapest to Nuremberg then to Denmark.. no.. next trip is to family reunion in NC in Sept.
oh, it was a cruise?
yes, a river cruise.. peaceful, nice, our first
what company did you use, I have never been on a river cruise or any other kind of cruise.
Viking.. would highly recommend them
ok, will keep that in mind
I am stuck with 44 left
worry free.. everything is taken care of.. aah.. free wifi too but.. that depends on satellite reception in each country/location.. so.. had to sacrifice Babble (eek) on occasions
I'm guessing Aloy's cruise pictures were on Facebook. Nice to see it was a good time.
I am glad you had a good time, even without Babble :)
Cheers to you, Molly!!
Well nice to see here, from the chat.
right Molly.. I made an effort to post each evening for family etc.. because I knew I'd never do it if the pics accumulated
Nice that you had fun Aloy. Sometimes it gets confusing for people who are not on Facebook when discussion of pictures there happens.
hello everyone
howdy nan
hi nan
Hi Nan
glad you enjoyed your cruise, Aloy -- Viking is the greatest. We have done Amsterdam-Budapest, Moscow-St.Peterburg and Shanghai-Beijing with them and loved them all.
wow nan.. we talked to some other passengers who felt the same as you.. guaranteed you will have a great time, but .. noone calls me "Madame" at home or cleans my room now, lol
I'm a cruise virgin too
hi there ruru
I'm scared of cruises due to all the reports of virus outbreaks on them. I also know some people who were on a cruise when an outbreak happened.
yes it does take a while to adjust to not being waited on hand and foot. No one leaving chocolate on you pillow at night?
hi aloy
sob, no.. and no cute little towel animals
Towel animals???
the room steward folds towels into animals.. we had an elephant in our room..
I don't think you are at any more risk than being on any holiday where you are constantly eating out, Molly. You just have to have a bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse and try not to sit with anyone coughing and sneezing . A daily echinacea helps too.
But isn't being on a contained ship a different "holiday" than being somewhere on land? I don't know, I don't vacation much.
bl
did you do the cooking class on board? I think it was strudel on the cruise you were on ( have also learned to make the russian version of ravioli and how to carve flowers out of carrots and radishes courtesy of one of the Chinese chefs.
bp
Depends on the cruise, Molly... we went on walking tours or other tours every day as the ship stopped at port cities
nan, I confess I skipped the cooking class.. but hubby took the German class and said it was hilarious.. the instructor was so good, he made the class fun
on the river cruises you only cruise for 1/2 day at most. The rest of the time is spent in one of the ports of call.
language classes usually are fun -- learned a couple of russian songs on that one (think they were drinking songs)
We are going on a Jewish Heritage tour on the Danube next April
yay, bichon.. you will love it
take lots of tissues, bichon -- very heart rending memorials in some of those places.
Yes, my head was spinning at times.. never knew of "Hitler's Coliseum" in Nuremberg, for example..
Yes, but an article about it in the newspaper got a lot of criticism for portraying such a sad era drinking wine
the one that got me was all the bronzed shoes of all shapes and sizes lined up along the danube embankment
yes, that was part of the criicism
I have been to the Holocaust Memorial in DC. That is all I want to see of the atrocity that Hitler and the Germans were a part of.
Mr. Bich's family
and yet we still have genocide being practised, and muslim radicals that have raised inhumanity to a new level
Yes Nan, sad, it never seems to stop.
The most moving, for me, Holocaust memorial is in Israel, Yad Veshem
hello everyone cest
don't know what that was about! --- something I typed before logging in I think
glad it is not your short term memory nan, lol..have to
scoot.. ciao for now all, nice to chat with you..
bye aloy - hagd
Molly, just here for a minute, but I had to tell you that my father was a pratropper in WWII and he absolutely refused to let us buy a German or Japanese car! And he was first generation American from German parents!
I have visited Germany with Mr. Bich and it hurt so much to see the albums of pictures of men in uniforms with swastikas on them

I have to move a bunch of wine this weekend ugh

it's still bothering me.. but no.. I have to do it myself.. it's all pretty expensive stuff.

I knew I could count on you guys up there
Hi! Can anyone hint any word that starts with i? Please?
slang for a movie not made by a major motion picture studio...
Thanks Pen!
yw...
I hate vowel words. All my 'blanks; are vowels - the I in the second column and the E in the last column
second column i....in 4...
e in last column...."you can have ei 6 one"....
Got that one now, thanks Pen again!
tx pen!
yw...
heading out for a while....bye!
What's the 8 start with, please?
ch..
Got it - thanks!
hello friends. WOW the last 20 words of this grid are not going easily
Hi everyone, back to fish out a few more... 47 still to find
The last 41 aren't going easily! Do you happen to have the E in the last column?
yes, and you will KICK yourself when you find it...ei6
It slapped me right in the face
*Kate (aka mattgroves) kicks herself* Ow. Found it ;)
And that gave me a whole slew of other words - thanks!
I could not find it for the LIFE of me this morning....someone gave me the count, and I was all DUHHHHH
Yep, the count totally did it. It's been a day for feeling stupid! I did a stupid thing today - I sent an email meant for a colleague to a client instead
did you call the client an asshole in the email?
No. But I said their numbers could be FUBAR (they were querying why their report didn't match ours. My colleague asked me why that might be, so I suggested it could be a duplication issue, an issue with new data loaded in, or that her numbers may be FUBAR)
I feel such an idiot
ouch. I am so sorry
Me too. I'm an ass.
im entering nonsense at this point, hoping something sticks....I might as well drop a mug on the keyboard
will you get in trouble/
Quite possibly - I've apologised to the client (before anyone else even got wi4 of it, but she's gone and escalated)
shes pissed?
sorry - angry?
Oh yeah.
pissed means angry in boston, but drunk for you, right?
it means both up here.... in Buffalo it means angry
Well, yes - but I took it as angry - I knew what you meant. And gosh she is
im so sorry. you are probably right about her numbers though....
we used to say pissed off for angry, but the off seems to have been dropped
Heh - quite possibly
when I worked at a management consultant firm, two of our consultants meant to leave a (very very drunken) voicemail to their manager saying they got engaged, but sent it company wide instead
Ooops
only the manager knew they were even dating....
Not for long....
I hope you will be okay...fingers crossed!
Indeed. Not much I can do about it now, I guess. A real schoolgirl error though. I'm old enough and ugly enough not to make such basic mistakes
hey! don't call my friend matty ugly!!!!
Awww.
NO SUCH THING AS AN UGLY KATE....
just ask katie mc g
:D
I once added Jerk to the end of a customers name and his next invoice was addressed Dear ***** Jerk.
Oh dear! BT once addressed a sales letter to Mr Melon Porkface. You can google it - it even made local press
thank god that I didn't do this, but .....we had a client named Mr. Knutz at Fidelity. The other department secretary sent him a letter on which she had transposed the second and third letters in his last name.
technology is DANGEROUS... back away slowly and pick up your friend, the pencil - a luddite
29 words left and I seem to have come to a shuddering halt (can't be bothered to open the list though - I'm on a Mac, so can't use Expert)
anyway, matty....see? we all have densa days, and lived to tell the tale.
poor matty... do you ever see wolvie in the chog? she used to be on earlier in the morning... she used to run a mac (maybe still does) she might be able to help you with expert/mac operations
LOL densa days :)
From what I have read here, Lickety's Expert does not run on MAC computers.

Exactly
nice icon, molly! how are you doing?
is that a picture of a weenie roast Molly? :D

yes I could TK.. I do angelic really well when I need to
ruru just needs a new home, with a lovely big kitchen and grand patio with outdoor dining space (bug-free of course) and fountains that spurt various varieties of vino. Then he can invite us all over for dinner and try to pretend he hasn't actually alluded to anything over the years....
hey again kate
Kate.... That Ruru fella couldn't look innocent if he appeared in the chog with wings & a halo!

Indeed we did, Ru!

LOL
<spits out wine when she reads ruru's last comment>

Trif! Don't encourage him!
Kate ... It's lovely to see you back on Babble :-)

Yarp - got that one - I now have all the 7s. Can someone put me out of my E misery? I have ec4, ec5, ef4, ei6, el4 and en4 - what am I missing (from the bottom row)?
And one from the top row as well
bye trif
my last blank (then I have to get back to work) is the F on the left. Any assist welcome!
Ec6/25 Matty. Ec - Scottish pronunciation for a domestic farmyard fowl & vowel
It's an evil person - or a devil, Stid. It's an fi5
thanks matty!
and thanks all for the clues. down to 50. :-) back later to finish. *poof*
bye stiddie!
Matty - did my clue make any sense to you?
Nice clue, once I worked it out, Soodle :)
Bye Stid :-)
I don't like making stuff too easy Matty!!
Love the Scottish fowl. Excellent!
How about my other missing E now, pretty please?
From the bottom row
K. Easy clue. Ed & abb for High School?
That was an easy clue - I like your toughies :)
Tis a silly word
......As the actress said to the bishop...
Ha! Yeah. :D
OK, last clue I'll (probably) ask for - my missing L. I have an le4, le6, and another le4....what am I missing?
Pl of your le4
I tried that. Doesn't work...........
Try again!
Pl your le4/6.....
2 x le 6
Tried again - I tried pluraling both le4s, even though one of them already uses the S. I have le4/6, le6/24 and le4/4
Ah haaaaa!
I'm a moron
I didn't think to add the vowel
le 6/24 X2, right next to each other
I'm clearly too tired for this
Doncha just loce those 'lightbulb' moments?
And hello everyone!
'Love'
Hey Nef :-)
the le 46, act the one who does it...le 6/24 many who do it le 6/24 le 4/4... remembrance day word from common phrase of the day
nef! hello :)
Good Afternoon, Soodle, matty, & Kate. I'm too lazy to do much of anything else today except play on the computer
Nef - you just described my life...
It's so darn hot here lately (although the humidity is finally down to a bearable level today)
Nef, I think your humidity is rolling in here...
Earlier in the summer I bought a liters & liters of paint to give Chez Soodle a bit of a spruce up. Seems now, after 8 years of struggling, fighting & negotiating, the bloody bank is going to take it anyway. Suddenly, I've lost the will to redecorate. :-(
I have a question that my son won't answer: why does my stupid "smart" phone keep running background apps that I never use & can't uninstall?
Oh Soodle! How awful!
Oh no! Is it for certain Soodles?
Ah.... It was inevitable really, Nef. I thought perhaps I could stave them off for longer, but seemingly not. I put up a darn good fight!
Out of lurking to support Soodle...so sorry about this!
Will you have to go quickly, or do you have the luxury of organising yourself properly?
I can't imagine how painful that must be. How long have you lived here?
Thanks Champ! And, God, no, Kate. Wheels grind very slowly here. But the writing's on the wall. Yep, Nef. Pretty painful, for sure. But, we won't be on the side of the road. I can rent! We've lived here for 24 years.
Small favours, you never know what could happen before the last cog clicks into place - don't give up hope.. in fact - paint your heart out! It will be lovely and it can't hurt the value any :)
looking at the positives ..... If I move to rented accommodation, I'll have a landlord who can worry about wonky rooves, broken showers & leaky toilets. At the moment - all these problems exist Chez Soodle & I have no money to fix them.
I'm just sad that you have to lose your home.
True that, Kate! :-)
Agreed. I get that part. And here, it takes forever before someone has to vacate. You're such a positive person...of course it'll be ok. Just a pain in the butt to move!
Hey! Two thirds of the kids are self sufficient now. I reckon that the third & final one will be on her own feet by the time I have to vacate. No big deal.
You know, as I age I do find that it's getting harder to do some of those routine repairs; I'm not *quite* so anxious to go running up a ladder to clear gutters or paint ceilings anymore...
I hear you Nef. I have an acre of grass around my house. Cutting it is a torture.
(Just make sure that your kids take their stuff & you won't have to move it to your new place if & when that happens). I have a problem with my kids that way.... And, I still have some stuff in the house I grew up in <blush>
Does anyone know anything about TMS or Dr John Sarno?
Oh Lordy. I reckon I would need about 10 builders dumpsters ( one for each room in this house) to properly vacate...
Never heard of them, Kap (but am now going to Google them)
tell me what you think
LOL Soodle!!!
And yeah- stuff! kids- don't leave it for your parents, and parents--don't leave it for your kids.
5 left ... all re words... only thing worse than re words are c words... or words starting with vowels.. or "notreallywordsexceptinenable" words...grumble grumble, grumble....
sarno is a back doctor.. that's all I know
Go Kate! You can do it!
Can I help Kate?
Actually, he is beyond that- look up TMS
And he's not a flake.
or a fake.
Kap . Wiki didn't write him off....
Not at all. I read his book on Healing Back Pain, and I saw myself in every page.
2 left looking now..
Has it helped, Kap?
fireflies :)
Kap, I'm reading a sight where he says that he says that the pain of "spinal stenosis, a herniated, ruptured, or bulging disc, shoulder, knee and foot tendonitis, as well as sciatica and fibromyalgia" are caused by a "psychosomatic disorder and that the structural abnormalities were not the cause of their pain." That scares me
YAY, Kate!!! WTG!!!
No Carlee here so pathetic Pom Pom Toss for Kate
According to research, a lot of pain is caused by psychosomatic disorders.
From what I know about Sarno, he deals with pain that has no known physical cause.
I'm going to have to read up more on this. I'm a nurse, I've never heard of TMS before. I'm not saying that I don't believe that psychosomatic disorders don't cause pain; I'd just hate to see someone decide pain is related to psychosomatic problems in place of a physical cause for it.
And (to be perfectly honest), I've had accupuncture in the past for severe back pain with good results. I'm not saying that back pain and other pain may not be psychosomatic; I'm just cautious about deciding that physical abnormalities aren't the cause of pain.
Or it has a physical component, like scoliosis, but goes beyond that. Nef, I am finding that very few people in my field have heard about him (though they know Herbert Benson and Kabat-Zinn). He is definitely not a shaman, and and if it's a matter of belief, it's less scary to me than cortisone, gabapentin and surgery.
I am kind of blown away by his work, and I am usually the skeptic's skeptic, meaning I trust nothing that smels like snake oil.
true, Kap.
:-)
And I have had a lot of tests and allopathic treatment. He addresses the constriction one gets when one becomes preoccupied by pain and afraid to move--withdrawing from activities and all that.
the only withdrawing I'm aware of is the IRS in my bank account :D
He's saying that the fear and withdrawal are the syndrome that needs to be addressed because fear perpetuates itself and makes the pain worse.
I never would have had the accupuncture except my husband set up the appointments for me through someone he knew from his lodge. I was very skeptical; but since I don't *do* drugs well (I'm hypersensitive to pain meds), & I knew it was muscular pain and I don't trust chiropractors; I figured that the accupuncture was the lesser evil of the 3
Ruru, now cut that out.
Well - I'm going to sit on the fence on this one. My Dad's legs stopped working. For no apparent reason. He is now wheelchair-bound. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthopeadic specialists , psychologists, have all failed to pinpoint a reason why he can no longer walk. I'm very interested in this
I will telll you when I am cured. My physical therapist and doctor are open to it, and what is most important to me is getting my life back and not being disabled.
Wow, Soodle, When did that happen? How old is he?
Soodle, look at Healing Back Pain by Sarno. It's a little dated because the mind-body field has grown since them.
I know there's a real mind-body connection; I used a lot of it when I worked in ICU.
Kap... I wish you all the very best. You have what my Dad lacked - a positive mental attitude. I believe that is vital. My Dad is 87 now. He has written himself off, which is sad.
Mind=brain: one thing.
I'm writing myself off at 70
I had a sucky attitude. My dad was like that. This is the first hopeful thing in a long time.
hello friends. I am sorry that Soodle and Kaplan are having such distress.
Should I wear distress, or distress?
Lol Ru. Come back here when you are 69 & a half (I'm regretting typing that already...), & tell us then!
Pain hurts.
Soodle you do have the right idea about not being the landlord. It is very hard to be a home owner with only one income and having dependants
70 is not as old as it used to be.
Hello Bugs :-). Pain hurts & shit happens. Suck it up & proceed.
Wear the one that makes you feel wonderful, Kaplan, because you are!
Shucks!
smiling
is that even a word in your country?
70 isn't old at all anymore. I'm closing in on it; & I think back to what an old lady my Grandma was and how my Aunt wasn't nearly as old when she was 70; but I'm still playing Legos and crawling around with my grandson & *I* can't be in my late 60's -- I'm sure of that!
Bette Midler is 69.
Wow.
i know, right?
His well-meaning sons put my grandfather in an apartment filled with seniors when he was 94. He had the greatest age but moved out because it was filled with "old" people. He lived on his own for 2 more years, ruru.
WTG, Bugs Grandfather!
I went to see her last week, hard to believe she is that age
Oh, I love your Grandfather, Bugs! Great !!!
have to run.. bye
waves to ruru
Run, Ru, Run.
See Ru run!
see Ru stop to sample fine wine
I know a woman who is 100 years old. She & her 98 year old sister have been driving up & down the state of MN to visit grandkids & friends. These 2 little old ladies do power shopping and are always ready to go & do things everytime they come; my friend (my age) has trouble keeping up with them when they visit. (when I say up & down the state, they live 340 miles from the Twin Cities here)
My dear old Dad, because he can't use his legs, had no option but to go into a Nursing Home. We, the family, were summonsed a few months ago. Seems he carreered into another resident in his electric wheelchair, whilst under the influence of alcohol.
Go Soodle's Dad
did they take the electric wheel chair away from him when he drinks?
ROFL Soodle. and you are wondering where your Dad's legs went? hee hee
Nef, I would not mind growing old if I could keep my m ind and intelligence like those two women. My feear is dementia but that is not as hereditary as good genes for old age, so I contine to play Babble
Three kids i've had! All went through the whole school system without me being called down to be give out to. In my fifties, I have to go down to a nursing home to be bollocked about my 87 yr old father's behaviour.
LOL... Soodles' "legless" dad is truly legless on occasion...good for him... so he hasn't completely thrown in the towel :)
Bugs, a research doc recently told me that dementia isn't "hereditary", but it does seem to run in families.
LOL, you can handle it soodles.... and I suspect you owe him one or two in that regard....
It will get worse Soodle. They people in those places know what kind of odd behaviour they cana think of on old age. Kids were afraid of being shamed. Old people don't have any left so it is all good.
And the worst bit is....it was my 83 yr old mother bringing in the hooch to him. Colluding with him!
Oh, MY!
thank god for good genes! elsewise, I'd be in REAL trouble....
(don't tell me he's in a "dry" nursing home!
So were you supposed to control her or chew him out? Either way, you just have to laugh and revive your skills around distraction.
good for her! keeping him in the game :)
Could I please have a clue for that right column "F"?
I have a g4/7 could I have the stat for the other g word please
think number Nef
g 4/6
Thanks nef
gi 4/6
Soodle you have siblings to have a good laugh about all this don't you. That is what kept us all sane as the old folks decayed
but think in German!
Oh, at this stage, between the pair of elderly misbehaving parents and the banks baying at my door, what else can I do but laugh?
Thanks, KatieMcG. It would have to be an easy one
Good evening, everybody:)
Exactly Soodle. You know you will land on your feet. You always do. The stress is not yours. You are so good at finding the humour in horrific situations so they do not feel horrific any more. I am alway on your team.
hi crossy :)
welcome crossy
Hi crossy
Hi crossy
Well, that's an absolute delight to read, Bugs. Many thanks :-)
And hello Mr Hair!
:-)
count on it. Our lives have not been so dissimilar. But I got called into school about my boys odd behaviour lots of times and you didn't
:-)
The first time was when my eldest was in Grade 1 and painted a Kindergarten kid's face blue with food colouring. He just asked the kid if he wanted to be a Smurf
does anyone have a list at all. I don't use babble expert
Lickety's List is working Kate if you want it
how would I get it bugsaw?
look down to the bottom of the page where it says Friends of Babble. The top think in the second column is Lickety's Babble Clues. When you click on it, the list comes up in a separate tab
love the smurf devil... hehehe
let me know if it works
The principal was really mad at me for laughing becaue he thought my boy had held the kid down and bullied him. Mostly, the other kid's mother was having a coniption because they were supposed to have a family photogragh taken.
I would never want to be a principal of an elementary school
Thank you bugsaw that is great :)
I am suprised that you have been playing listless all these years Kate. Well done, you!
OMG!!! It's the end of the world!!!! My little angel was forced into becoming a Smurf... now our lives are ruined forever because the happy-family photograph is ruined... the horror!
I used to use babble expert but stopped playing and i now realise it is because it took all the fun out of it for me, not a criticism of it, but I love getting so far and then having to list the old fashioned way.
Hah, Bugs. I can beat that. When Son of Soodle started off in High School - I went to the PTA. Most teachers said he was ok-ish. His Religeon teacher told me she had a huge problem with him. Seems, during Sex Ed class, my 13 yr old hero stood up & told the teacher he knew all about sex. But he was seeking clarification about what exactly went where when 2 ladies had sex. I asked the teacher how she had replied & she said that she told him to sit down & shut up. And I told her she was right to have done so!
Kate I think you will find that smurf boy is still in therapy ;-)
Well, welcome back Katie. It is good to see so many people coming back.
It's really nice to be back
Soodle, that is hilarious!
ROFL....I wouldn't doubt it for a minute, probably dreams in blue and white... ;)
That was the right answer that the teacher had too
it is nice to see a lot of our favorite long-absent babblers coming back:)

KateMcG.. Where in the UK are you? The Soodle offspring are organising an 'all expenses paid' trip across the water in August for their elderly mother! Swindon & Chatham. (And all points inbetween).
I'm in Tamworth (North of Birmingham) let us know where you are going to be and we could alway try for a babble meet but I think you are south of me.
Will do!
