sometimes I feel so sorry for the students in the town where I work....its a rough place.

example: today the principal made an announcement that all staff should check their emails immediately. We were informed that several students on the way to school saw a body in the street, of a man who had died. If anyone seemed to be "Upset by this" we were directed to refer them to the guidance counselor.
Traumatic. Poor kids.
so many have only one parent at home, or are being raised by someone other than a parent, don't speak English as a first language, come to school hungry, lacking supplies....its really eye opening.
That is very sad. I can't imagine children being in that situation even though I know it is a common occurance.

I loathe making lunches for the kids. DW is travelling, so I have to take on the duty - I procrastinate and end up making lunches at midnight.

Good for you. I could never figure out how to send a tuna sandwich in a packed lunch without the bread getting all soggy.
I start with frozen bread, and no tomatoes allowed.
Good call. The mayonaisse factor is what gets the bread soggy though. I finally started sending bread in a zip lock and the tuna salad in a plastic container...sandwich to be made when it was lunch time.
