Hello From MOM - My dear, dear Babblers, It is with a very heavy heart that I write this. Our beloved Renny has passed away. She and the "cool man", her husband, their two cats and their dog have perished in a fire at their house. This happened Saturday night, November 7. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Please keep her in your hearts. Hugs, Mom I have also verified this myself using Renny's private name and this is true

I really should post the instructions how to do it in less than 2 minutes using an EXCEL spreadsheet. I think yesterdeay or the day before someone laboriously retyped the whole list to put it in his/her profile.

That is a link to symantecs they do a free scan to see if you have a virus on your computer.
I had someone look at it and that is how I know it is viruses.
Been told the only thing I can do is reformat. Just waiting for my free windows 10 to come through.
Installing Windows 10 is not going to get rid of any viruses your computer had picked up. You need an anti-virus/anti-malware program.
If Crossy was here he would be able to tell you what to do he is very good at that sort of thing as I think just adding windows ten will not cut it.

Malware Bytes is free and a good anti-malware program. Your version of Windows should be running Windows Defender for virus protection.

You could use a USB memory stick and download onto it a free anti-virus program then plug that into the notebook if it will not go online. Oviously you will need to use another computer to download it onto a USB stick .

Someone who knows what they are doing needs to go through your registry and get rid of all offending programs. Computers that do a lot of web surfing are the biggest victims of malware and viruses.

I'm the same way nowadays, Bugs. I had to say something because i've had a tough past few weeks (work-related). It's the little things like that that can definitely turn a smile.
I am sorry that work hasn't been fun lately. It is so important to have fun at work in order to continue doing your best. The new school year rush must have settled down by now though; has it?
I'd like to think it would have by now, but there are a number of factors that are causing me distress: 1) closed 2 half-time positions to roll into 1; 2) the third half-time position was going to absorb some of the duties of those that closed; 3) he resigned; 4) a grad student was "assigned" to me who's never been in OR before so has no ability to provide adequate support; 5) I'm supposed to train her through repetition (how to "manage" a bulletin board); 6) 2 faculty members have decided that I'm--not sure exactly what--rude, condescending, arrogant, beligerent (not sure which they actually used) and have decided to take me to HR; 7) our beloved senior professor passed away from a long bout of leukemia on Thursday evening; 8) I hear the sad Babble news today; 9) and today's my birthday... it's been tough. :-(
But that's more than anyone wanted to hear/read...thanks for letting me "vent"...now onto bigger and better things. *knock on wood*

I am very much the same way, origami! Too independent. About the only time I go to a doc is for vaccinations (which I still need to do) and if I think I broke something, since x-rays are about the only thing I cannot do at home.

Apparently they cannot find the source of the outbreak? Seems strange, but I suppose it could be coincidence that people fell ill, and there was actually a different source for their exposure.
They never figured it out, Stid. There were no typhoid vectors in California in the 60's. Some fluke encounter they surmised. they treated it with some drug that could cause aplastic anemia. Another reason why I should see the doctor regularly, but don't -0
