I tell it that, yes. I am almost 5 weeks post-op; and am SO impatient to be done with the whole healing & repair; & the doc and PT's all say this takes 3 months to heal & be back to "normal" (whatever that is!)

Try switching your attitude from feeling like you are not doing enough to feeling like you deserve the rest and to be waited on for a little while. It really helps when you can pull it off, Nef. You DO deserve a rest.
At times. On Friday she was working on releasing some of the adhesions; & I should have told her how much it hurt; but I didn't. The weekend was bad. :-(

Molly, I've been the nurse all these years; nurses are used to just soldiering through life I guess. Working either 8 or 12 hour shifts, you might not get time to go to the bathroom or eat; you just keep going.
It worked for me when I was stopped by a broken leg. I couldn't do it every day but when I did it helped a lot.

I get that Nef, I really do. But when it comes down to you being the patient and you being in pain, it's time to let others care for you.
I am sure with his needs and yours you can ask for help and all those people you have done for all these years would be happy to bring food or wash some dishes every day or so. My sister cleaned my house for me and I will always be grateful.
I have 2 friends (both also retired nurses) who came & did laundry and other things (laundry is in the basement); and DH had the Nerve(!) to ask me when I'd be back doing laundry because they didn't do it right (I was so MAD I could have SPIT at him!)
So glad to hear your spirit is stll strong, Nef! He deserved some spit in his ear for that.

I don't think some people ever learn gratitude. Especially people who have been taken care of most of their life. It's that sense of entitlement that I will never understand. And yes, where is the gratitude? Or the giving back to someone who has given so much?
He definitiely has tried to pick up after himself now. And the kids (actually, mostly our son & grandson) have been helpful too; but he still has no idea how a house functions.
My husband didn't understand either but he wasn't critical. That made all the difference. I am glad your boys are there for you. You have done so much for both of them.

Molly, he has M.S. So sometimes he's been in a wheelchair, he's been blind before; and I do normally run the house in such a way he isn't aware of what or how much work it takes.He also doesn't drive any more (and I'm so glad that I now can drive again; but it's been hard

(my knee replacement was my left knee; so it isn't affected by driving. I had to pass a "test" of someone going with me and letting me drive; my hyper critical son was my guinea pig; and he was pleased that I did well

8 years ago (when he was doing lots better & actually could remember things) when I had 3 major foot surgeries; he doted over me; & actually was able to do some housework back then.
I love that quote that says, " Growing old is like being penalized for a crime you haven't committed."
Well Nef, good luck to you. It's a hard life for someone who doesn't feel comfortable unless they are in the role of the caretaker. I hope you get to a point where you can let others care for you and that you realize that you might be in pain and you need something to relieve that pain.

bugs, a friend (who is a PT; but not mine) told my that Pt stands for Pain & Terror
Ain't that the truth! They wanted me to go up and down stairs on crutches less than 24 hours after they did the surgery so I was pretty full of drugs. I remember asking the lovely PT guys who were trying to teach me how they ever decided to choose that profession. I told them right out, "Everyone hates PTs because it always hurts so much."
Good thing they forgave me for being so rude. THey told me they chose it not because it causes pain (altho they admitted they did) but because they want people to have as full a life as they did before.
I often thought of that when I was doing my PT exercises.
LOL! My friend was the little girl I watched grow up. She loves what she does & I can't imagine her sitting still doing anything else.
(Of course, now she's 6' 2" and jokes she can't find any tall guysthat can keep up with her.
I am glad she found what she loves and was lucky enough to get paid for doing it.
yep. I loved doing what I did too; & felt very lucky that I got paid a living wage doing it too

Sadly, that is too true as well. 3 out of 4 sons are constantly struggling.
My daughter just had her 12 year anniversary working for the state; I worry about my son, but he's doing okay so far. (he's a computer nerd , works from home as a QA specialist for a small company that makes different apps and programs independantly
