never realised how much one relies on both hands to do things....the past 3 weeks have taught me a lot, having to rely on just my left hand.....very frustrating
stuck with 51 to go
I remember when I broke my elbow and was in a sling for 6 weeks, just how frustrating that was, diz. I empathize. Silly things like putting on a bra LOL
Cooking was almost impossible. I did learn how to pour a gallon of milk or orange juice by balancing the bottom of the bottles on the middle of the kitchen sink.
lol Dee, hubby has to dress/ shower/ everthing for me
I hated that part... definitely humbling experience, and frustrating, but the time will pass pretty quickly.
I can't do any cooking....luckily I had plenty of pre cooked meals in the freezer, but they are slowly diminishing.
How are you feeling?
te9
is the last 9
My main thing I am upset about is that I can't do all my little treats for Chrissy.
ty ru, looking
you will just have to make up for it when you are all healed :)
G/dtr said to me 'don't worry Grannie. you can still make them when your shoulder gets better'
awww, precious!
grrr two missing s's
poor ole hubby is getting as frustrated as me, thankfully I taught him well in the cooking dept...lol
finished
That was smart. We ate a lot of omelets, pancakes, grilled cheese, grilled meats, chili, and takeout when the freezer emptied and my hubby had to cook. His repertoire is a bit limited.
wtg ru
he should be pampering you Diz
lol Ru he is.

Thanks, flosey.....looking
it's actually, i + that
Thanks much, flosey
Have 2 of them now.
flosey, is the weather cold?
we did have some very wet snow today but not really cold (as we had in Ontario)
We had quite a lot of rain yesterday. A cold front is coming now. It has been unusually warm, for this time of year.
that was this morning, the snow only lasted a few hours, all gone now
Do you need to go out today? I imagine you have all of your shopping done.
will have to go out tomorrow - I play bridge Friday afternoons, it's very late here now, almost midnight
I don't have to go out today.....have a friend who does the grocery shopping. Am so thankful for her.
received a very pleasant surprise this morning - delivered by courier - a lovely box of of Sees chocolates from my dentist
Oh, my! Very nice.
Need to fix a snack. Be back soon.
good morning all
Thank God and Pres. Jimmy Carter for peanut butter.
lolll flosey, for real? Chocolates from your dentist? That is a smart way for him render more work ;)
Hey there, sprite.
hiya peach :)
lol Sprite - he really is a great dentist, have never been happier when I think of all the dentists I've had over the years! But yes, this was indeed quite a surprise - a delicious one
hehehe yeah it is a sweet gesture. Just struck me as funny. But in a good way.
good morning everybody
cooee and g'day from me. as usual sprite expresses my thoughts too... loll {{hugs}} dear sprite
good morning ruby *hugs* How are you holding up, dear?
hi ruby, nice to see you. Almost bedtime here!
{{ruby}}
*hugs rose* Hello my darling, good evening to you. How are you doing?
it is later in canada than it is in australia, isn't it?
not too badly. have spent most of the day in the air-con, on the bed with my compression stockings on. hot weather = swollen ankles.
yeah I know that feeling. Thank God for airco.
whwith too great friends in the game!at a pleasure, huddled in front of the fire (I think I should move to OZ lol)
how are you all?? flosey....i see you are nearly ready for xmas, wtg, honey. ruby?? are you improving with your dietary intake?? sprite, are feeling less tired, sweetie?
ruby, a care package is in the mail. Sent it off yesterday.
I lost the beginning of that -- I was saying that it is a pleasure to have my friends here!
a little, rose. Sleeping quite a lot at the moment. I think my body has decided to catch up on energy.
ruby, when is the big day?
finally you are able to do so sprite...that's good.
yeah it is ok. I try to rest a lot, walk terra every day, and try and keep my obligations to a minimum. I trust I will feel chipper soon.
urYour package arrived this AM, sprite; I will need Flosey's dentist! Many thanks!
omg for real? That is amazingly fast.
I saw the new doctor on Wed. and although the cancis stable, she wants me to have more scans before I see her in Janer
they may charge a fortune for postage, but at least they deliver fast for it
And she thinks radiation (which scares me) would relieve the pain
wow ruby, yayyyy for the cancer being stable. well done. And it is a good thing she is careful and wants to have scans done.
but what is your opinion about radiation?
I can understand not liking the idea of radiation. But anything that relieves your pain is worth considering.
I am afraid that I will be burned
ruby, radiation can be daunting. it does have it's positives. it can be very accurately focussed for a start.
what I think is that you might want to write down all those questions and worries about radiation. And when you see her next, go over the list and make sure you get informed info.
informed info? Ok, that is odd.
She was suepeised that they didn't do radiation when I had cancer before
see you later, kids, I have to get dressed for my haircut.
It's actually less expensive, having my hair cut at home
bye ruby, take care *hugs* and enjoy the goodies. Just brush your teeth after, lol
bye dearest ruby. hope you have a nice day. xoxox
My housekeeper has been on the phone since she arrived.
she better not charge you for those hours then
she gets here, but doesn't do much and the house isn't clean enough
dinner ready. xoxox to you. will check in later and see if you are still here.
enjoy your dinner, darling. *hugs*
but she walks the pups, even on her days off, so I shouldn't complain
((rosie))
ruby, maybe you can ask her to do specific tasks today. That way she will have to work for her money without you getting into an argument about it.
Morning all! Anyone have stats for the I in the bottom row?
morning matty! *hug*
Hug back ;)
is6/18 - 7/28 - 8/40 - 7/28 combo

I got lucky there - the first combo I tried that worked with the points

Now if I can find the last lower left D (I have 5 of them) I shall have greyed the first column and the last row :)
Though I still have no 9s

I dreamt last night that I had a baby, and that I didn't know I was pregnant until I went into labour. And then my love and I had a horrible fight and I ended up with a baby, no baby clothes, no diapers, no nothing. And the lady at the child care facility said I had to wait 3 weeks before I could get help there.
oh yeah, forgot the in9. Thanks Cosmo.

sounds like a house of Congress, if you have a bit of an accent
a number + a baby louse, eww
there are houses in congress?
(an number if you change the first letter, sorry)
The other one starts like the second, but ends like a pasta that starts with a Z
well, it is NOT the house of representatives
tyvm, Molly, great clue
ok - I guess you are referring to the upper house, but I've tried everything close
ah got it -- ends in the bug eg
There is The House Of Representatives and the other body of American government. Starts with sen...not hard to figure.
yes, wtg
Not spelled the same, but that is why these are "hints"
yes your upper house is called the same as ours -- keep forgetting that congress is just another word for parliament
No, American government is nothing like Parliament. Hence, The Revolutionary War.
now for the 6/18 before that one
I meant that you have the 2 houses, Molly
I always thought your revolutionary war was because you wanted representation in the British parliament
phantom: innuendo
*!* ta da *!*
congrats, nan!
congrats, nan!!
Um, no Nan. Our Revolutionary War was because we wanted to be a country free of the British. And we accomplished that.
then what what was all the no taxation without representation rhetoric about?
fw, fun grid.. nan, I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back.. so the tea was thrown in the drink and the militias formed. See ya next grid, poof
Well that was what happened before the American colonists got tired of England and decided to form their own Union. People get tired of being oppressed by others.
ah - an excuse to start a war, then
on my way --- back at the flip
No, not an excuse to start a war. People wanting their Independence. (Try a Google search for The Declaration Of Independence)
It's so funny that elders who still believe in the sovereignty of the British crown have no idea why countries want to be free of it.
evening all! done with the job for 2015!
hey dan - let the babbling begin!
(if you're still here)
Hi Dan and Welki.
Greetings fellow babblerrs
Hi origami
hello all
good bye all
*installs revolving door*
hi scrabs and owl (on the chance you're back)
oh! and origami :)
working the grid
Hi Welki!
Hi Owl. I got sidetracked with a phone call
are you on call this weekend, scrabbler?
Nope. I was on call 2 weekends ago, and the last 2 nights. I can finally sleep in tomorrow after setting the alarm for 0600 for 5 days in a row.
still here! hiya Scrabs & welki & TO & origami & all
hehehe - i'd bet that 'sleeping in' means you'll wake up at 6, try to get back to sleep and give up (and get up) at 6:20
I like the Billy Collins poem in your profile TO. I like his poetry.
Hi dan
it's a new years poem.
I do often wake up at 6 anyway. But maybe I can sleep til 7 or 730. Depends how much later I stay up. Not much later.
I always wake up at 5:45 unless I forget to set my alarm on a week night :-)
i got up at 7:30and was shopping by 8:15. best decision of the week, the crazies were on the road by the time i left.
we get up at 5 on workdays - not much later other days, because of the dogs
We brought my greatnephews to see Santa at the mall early last Sunday--smart idea.
I haven't done any Christmas present shopping and am now in deep doo-doo.
no5/14 pls?
i saw the photos - very handsome little boys (and yes, very smart to do that LAST weekend!)
Loud, Owl
we got a *reservation* to see Santa tomorrow. We'll see how well it works
I love those boys so much, welki, and think of them all of the time.
there were two howlers in the mall today on the santa line. my, how that echoes!
it's evident that you love them, so easy to see in the way you write about your escapades with them
I just ordered Ryder some extrawide sneakers. He truly has hobbit feet. He will be a year old on Jan 4th.
they are very handsome lads
One of my best friends (a 30-something male) is having a baby in a few weeks. The closest I will get to a grandchild. I can't wait.
As I have gotten older I appreciate young kids much more. Kids know how to live life--playful, candid, innocent, etc. Childhood seems to peak at 4-6, in my opinion.
before the age of reason.
yeah, reason screws up everything :-)
So I treasure all encounters with kids from about 2.5-6 or so. I love talking with them, asking them questions, hearing their replies and comments.
The young kids possess such honesty and joy of ordinary things
Something changes by age 6-7 and it makes me sad.
Yes, true joy and exuberance. I suspect that the school just squashes the joy right out of them. Their creativity and imagination get crushed, they get judged, graded, and criticized. It makes me sad.
it's magic, scrabbler. the magic begins to dissipate when they start grade school. very sad, but part of the rites of passage, i suppose.
* the school experience
Yes, the magic disappears when reality of "grill and drill", and being graded and judged starts. The educational experience is so negative for many kids, the ones that struggle academically and socially.
do you not think it is the development of the ability to reason? the world is different then
i don't think it's just the indoctrination children receive when they start school, but the interaction with other, older (or meaner) children who suck the joy of fantasy from the young ones
There are many factors--deeper thinking, peer relationships, emotional development.
But one of my mottos is "What would a 4 year old do?"
there is no santa claus. there is no tooth fairy. that sort of stuff. (and you're right - kids learn early on about hardship, academic and social, but also about financial hardship if they're not of 'the means' to participate in all activities or even wear the 'right' clothes.
We start building cocoons around ourselves. It protects us, but cuts us off to some degree from others and the joy in the world.
Reality bites, and some kids face it quite early on.
I actually think kids would go through that if we lived in a cabin in the woods and home schooled them. I think it is the way we are built.
Yes, look at the stages described by Piaget.
Welki ... are you saying there is no Tooth Fairy? I am teary now ;-)
i work in a place in which children simply do not belong, yet people bring them for a variety of reasons. so, for them, i stock stickers and it still gets me when the little ones get excited about a Dora, Hello Kitty, Cars or Toy Story sticker - the simple things :)
Yes Scrabs, Piaget described all of that a long time ago.
yes, origami, there is a tooth fairy. (you can read about it in the new york sun's editorial)
i am done, ty for clues. i am so drained, family can do that to you.
It is fascinating for me to watch kids develop, and to see the differences between kids of the same ages. Some kids are very immature, other are sadly sophisticated at young ages. e.g. kids exposed to far too much at a young age.
Yay Owl.
Oh, thank goodness welki. You had me worried there.
welki, you crusher of dreams. :P
g'night owl - get some rest. i'll bet the next week will be busy for you
I have 62 left and am ready for bed. Tomorrow night is our Tomfoolery Tennis Club Ladies Xmas Party. We laugh hysterically for 4 hours straight.
yeah, that's me, the dream crusher. ask anyone :D
actually, i am not done shopping and i am having company tomorrow, i think
if i may, i am put out about my heater needing replacement. the bill sent me reeling.
oil furnace?
Oh, no, Owl.
the bill was probably more than enough for a new bathroom. or whole house flooring.
gas boiler.
Yikes!
Yikes! And it is COLD where you live.
on the bright side, it was replaced before the cold snap, and i am not freezing.
whoa boy - you can spend 10G on a system :(
Is that a once in a lifetime replacement?
it was going and i did not want to be in an emergency situation. exactly, welk
this is the third in nearly 31 years. the old one should have had 5 or so more years but the original expansion tank rusted and ruined the boiler.
I am going to have to replace my HVAC systemsoon. The thought scares me.
you're wise to replace it before it shuts down, pipes freeze, something bursts and there's water damage
i am still in the stages of grief.
3rd in 31 years? Wow!
well, 18 years ago it only cost about $4K. but that tank was not replaced then
Being a home owner is expensive.
so, it was the original then 2 replacements
yes, but i had picked out flooring and was hiring a painter...
I got a new furnace for $6K maybe 8 years ago, I got a metal roof for $6K in 2003, I have had the house painted twice and will do that again next summer, ...
and i need a new car.
Ah shucks TO. Every time I want to make an improvement on my hovel something comes up.
*queues up Pink Floyd's MONEY*
I did just get a new car though! I love it. A Subaru Forester. I have big payments though :-(
That is always difficult: postponing a desired purchase because of a needed purchased. I hope to get laminate flooring installed in the next few months and I should have done it 10 years ago or more.
Yes, welki!
Origami, I had a 2005 Forester and loved it, then got a 2013 Corsstrek and love it even more!
* Crosstrek
I have always bought cars that were the cheapest or could get a good deal on. I have always wanted a Forester. This is the first car I really wanted and was able to get. I LOVE IT.
i am considering subaru. we get them at invoice.
i've had two subarus - loved them
scrabs, i have heard they have mechanical issues
I highly recommend them
I will stay with Subarus--perfect for where I live.
do8 the first one, please?
they are a big sponsor of our non profit radio station, so members get no haggle pricing
Well-made cars, Owl, highly-rated, with high safety ratings too. Subaru owners tend to be very loyal.
all cars are subject to mechanical issues - you just have to decide what you want, what you can afford and buy it. everyone knows someone who'll try to burst your bubble - or 'has read' or 'heard' something negative
never had problems with my Subaru.... on second Forester
Yay, SG!
Consumer Reports ranks Subarus very highly.
i was looking at crosstrek but then thought i would try the legacy
Alright, kids, I really must enter the REM zone. See you tomorrow.
the first do8 sounds like something you'd make, like a comment, in the margins of a manuscript
hi geek
but i fee i need an suv just to keep up, all those big lunks o n the road overwhelm a simple car
had the original import Forester.... 98, had it 13 years. now, a 2011
