molly, what shortening did you use?
I use butter. I cut it into tiny cubes and freeze it for 20 minutes before making the dough. Then the dough sits for a few hours in the fridge before I roll it out. I know Southern women swear by Crisco crust, but I just can't.
And I would never use canned fruit in a pie or a cobbler.
Except pumpkin pie. I tried making pumpkin pie with fresh pumpkin once and that is a mess I will never recreate again.

I'm okay; We were lucky because when we heard about the storm coming; I was able to get everything put away before it hit. We did lose a storm door that we were going to donate to the ReStore for Habitat for Humanity (it didn't fit in our car, though; so it was laying on it's side & leaning against a fence & I didn't realize the storm would be strong enough to knock it over.
That's good not more was damaged.
yes. We had 3.6 inches of rain in our rain gauge in less than an hour, & the news said the winds were over 60-70 mph. We'd had chairs & garden tools & a bunch of other stuff out in the yard left over from last night; and the wind was strong enough to toss our fire pit upside down too (even though it had a lot of ashes in it - which should have made it heavier.
How was your 4th of July, Jellen? Did you celebrate or watch the fireworks?
My fourth was quiet, except for the neighbors. Tried to keep the puppy calm.

It takes me less than 5 minutes to fall asleep; but just don't move during those 5 minutes or I'm very cranky
