Bye Dee
Bye Dee
If you have henchman, why can't you have hench?
Apparently, the "hench" in "henchman" comes from the old English "hengest", meaning stallion, and "henchman" probably originally meant groom.
I suspect that Hengest is actually Welsh, rather than old English, as 'hen' is the Welsh word for old and gest has several meanings
But then Welsh was once the language of the whole of Britain, so in one sense it is 'old English', or perhaps pre-English :)
morning all
morning Sprite
hi Glant! Hope you are well?
Yes, mostly, although it seems I may have an inflamed gall bladder/gallstones
ouch :( That sounds so very painful.
It is more discomfort and mild pain at the moment. I believe it can get very painful indeed. The wait for an ultrasound scan to confirm what is going on is currently 26 weeks :(
So I am drinking apple cider vinegar all day in the hope of stimulating bile and/or dissolving stones (if there are stones)
oh my that is long. Can't your insurance mediate for a shorter waiting time in another hospital?
No insurance, health services are free in UK, but waiting times are often long. Doctor said if it starts getting really painful then he will hassle them to make me a higher priority.
:(
So far I am managing discomfort without painkillers, but have noticed it is worse when I am sitting, must put pressure on gall bladder. I had blood tests a couple of weeks ago and know liver function is fine.
that at least is a good thing
Yes, a very good thiing. And as my first thought was bone cancer, gall bladder seems mild by comparison LOL
LOL indeed
23 left, saving them for later LOL. Happy Babbling!
all the best, Glant, and have a lovely day
Morning all! Is it me, or is this a tricky grid?
hiya matty :) Looks like it. Only have one 7 so far and I am over halfway. How are you doing?
I'm not yet halfway - I have nothing bigger than a six and only two of those. Every word seems to be a struggle! Ah well, that's how it goes.
some grids are like that
Yarp. I have just seen French friends of Jeff's off - then tonight we have a friend around to cut our hair and then the pub quiz. tomorrow a birthday party and then on Saturday we're seeing Fairport Convention (a folk band from which I get my username) so it's all go at the moment
pretty sure the bottom left E must be a biggie. Not seeing it though... will in time, no doubt
I found that E!
sounds like you are having a good time!
good job!
We are, but it's nice to have a rest at the moment :)
Do you have stats for the Q?
Qu6/33
trade you for stats on that E!
en8/55 :)
ah thanks! A biggie it is...
And I found that Q now. Obvious when pointed out :)
yay matty!
The E is a 'real' word.
ok that is good to know
ah, found it, thanks again
Hurrah! :)
Okay, I have to ask. Why groves instead of grooves?
Matty Groves is a folk song. It's about adultery and murder - a young man called Matty Groves goes to church and is seduced by the Lord's wife. It doesn't end well for anyone.
I knew going to church was risky
Ah, I thought you were referring to the record label
https://youtu.be/79SmlOBvMus
I know the label, not the song. I am not familiar with British folk music.
As it happens, the record label was started by Fairport Convention. So it all comes round :)
Grove, groove, grooving in a grove...or grooving about a grove. It does all come around.
grovelling grover put the mooves on the grooves
:D
Groovy
yay, that put that song right into my head :)
It's a good song!
true
3 of the biggies are related, matty. Just found them.
Oooh - may I ask what they start with?
of course. Au
Ooh, found two of them - looking for the third
Found the third. Hurrah. So I have the 9, the 10 and two of the 8s, but no 7s!
one of the 7s can be put into soup or salads
Got it! Finally nbt/nbs :)
Thanks to Dee for posting a list. As usual, it is copied into my profile if that helps anyone.
wtg matty!
thanks Molly. Might come in handy for the last few for this one... kind of hit a very sturdy wall
Oh, I guess Lickety is broken today....sigh :( Never mind - I'll have things I need to do anyway :)
nice Sherlock Holmesy word
Goodness it's windy here today (and no, I've not been eating beans)
Ah yes. Don't let the game get you down ;)
*grins*
stormy here as well. And rain. Must walk Terra but we both don't feel like it. Terra loves storm but does't much like heavy rains
It's fairly bright here but VERY windy
59 left and that wall is high and long :(
57. But the principle is the same
fireflies with the help of the list. Last words were to7, ca7/40 x 2 and ca6/27.
Yay Sprite!
*hugs* and have a lovely day.
You too!
I never think of that to7. I guess I don't know enough about French cooking.
Neither do I (I'm still looking for it)
Cryptic clue ..the light hand held light is not off.
Thanks Zooz - that did it :)
The word is defined as some kind of lace, but I know the word for a way to fix foie gras

sounds like you guys maybe need your own accounts! but lovely to hear of sharing....
I love your profile! I strive to do more traveling
to much to do now we are retired.
lovely problem to have!
trying to see more of the world before the money runs out,in between repairing our house £20k last year so only one or two trips this year,Lisbon in Aug france in May for some food shopping as it is only 23 miles away.
oh that sounds wonderful! I made it back to Ireland last summer, after an 8 year hiatus, and let me tell you, I will NEVER leave it that long again!
to me that is the biggest conundrum - so many new places to go, so many places so dear the I simply must go again....
I have a son in Vancouver so that is on for next year unless he comes homebefore then.i speak to him every couple of weeks and my eldest who live 2 miles away i speak about twice a year,.
oh my.
he has a young family and a high power job in London that is his excuse,
do you get to see your grandkids, at least?
such is life,
finally gobsmacked the last g .....giving me a hard time today!
i see the grandkids at christmas, maybe it is because i divorced his mother 30 yrs ago and moved on with life. It`s no big deal his eldest is a shithead anyway.and i have golf to get on with now.
Good Morning Everyone
Trif, I am going back to Ireland this year.
I have only recently learned golf - last four years or so...REALLY like it!
good morning river, and YEAH!!!! Make number one on your "to do" list == meet soodle!!! That women is a GODDESS
never been to Ireland.
I met Soodle 3 years ago when I went. We have a lovely dinner together.
mixi, I can't say enough about it.....heaven on earth!
Ireland is a wonderful place to vacation.
I am delighted to hear you are going again, river....
i play one handed due to shoulder probs now and i am better than when i used 2 hands straighter and we have the one handed world champion at my club so he helps.
my secret is that I am going to graceland this summer, but shhhhh - a certain party does not know yet! it's his 60th this year, and he always wanted to go....
The vacation is actually a week in Scotland but we decided to extend adding 5 days in Ireland.
Its my 60th later this year too....
that is so cool roncook! I have two good hands, and I am woeful, but I try hard, and I enjoy the challenge and a beautiful walk is a beautiful walk....
how did we all get so old so fast, eh?
I made one trip to Europe (Netherlands, Belgium and France) in the early 1970's. Probably won't get to go again.
I would also recommend Italy. Went last year and it was great.
I don't know why, but my "bucket list" place has always been the Taj Mahal.....always drawn to it
I would LOVE to go to Italy! I always discussed it with Mr. HAte, but he always dismissed it, out of hand, no way, so we never went. Guess where the little sh^t went on his honeymoon?
I never really got to travel until I got my divorce. I promised myself I would go on a big trip every year.
I would love to go to Brisbane and see the Great Barrier reef
good for you, river! you go girl!!! total respect
come over to europe the dollar is strong against our currency.we only visit the US when we get at least 4 to £ 1.7 now today $1.23.
morning bichon! I would be happy to accompany you on that trip
I would love to go to Australia and New Zealand but don't know if I could handle the 24+ hour travel.
and a side trip to Tasmania
sorry dollar needs to be north of $1.70.
my daughter did the trip, river, at least the Oz part, and it was a SLOG
We've been to NZ and the flight from LA wasn't that bad. Dinner and then you go to sleep.
I wish Scotland was on the euro.
I hope I get to travel more in the future. I have missed it dearly
Maybe soon River
I had a hard enough time with the 8 hours to Italy.
Hubby doesn't like to fly.
But not before I go. My trip is in June.
wonderful time to go river! what's the plan? all over each country, or stay in one area?
I'm a good plane traveler Read a book on IPad, watch movie, doze off
Never happen we are out of europe soon and the euro is going to implode some day soon.with greece in the cra**er and Italy nearly bankrupt.
seems the whole world is going to pot, doesn't it?
tell me about it,but you do now have a pres who has a passport and owns land in Scotland.
especially here
careful bichon! I got a right lashing for saying that last week.
help yourself to him, roncook

no, just ends with the last 2 letters of the t** word
it looks more French, Marc. I couldn't find it because I wanted to soften the harsh sound the way the French would.
I am sorry. Terrible clues.
ca 7 - automobil + the name of a deep yellow orange colour without the last consonant
Now I am really confused. The last two letters of the clue ca + bug you need to get the numbers for 7/40?

yes Marc. think of different ways to spell the same word as the first one.
I had that one Mary. :)
Marc, look at the first 7,40. take out the third vowel and put a different vowel on the end

No I swapped the 'a' for the 'o' and it didn't work

God! I'm exhausted reading through the recent chat.
Good afternoon, everyone. We are awaiting a snow storm and the furnace repairman. :-/
(((Nef))). I hope the repairman comes before the storm...
Until I watched Fargo on Netflix, I had no idea just how cold Minesota was. I watched it in bed, with electric blanket on, & still felt chilly!
Me too Soodle. We've had temps up to the 60's (F) for 3 days & now we may be getting a snowstorm of anywhere from 5- 12 inches - or 1 to 5 inches (depending on where you look at the forecast I guess).
Do you have any heat at all Nef?
LOL, Soodle! I've never seen Fargo (I don't think I could stand the nightmares after watching it); but I don't know how honest that movie was.
No. It's 65 degrees in here now (The repairman just called; he said he'd be here before 10 PM!)
Oh, I totally binged on Fargo the last week or so. Excellent yarn!!
I grew up in northwestern MN (70 miles south of Canada & 50 miles east of North Dakota); & it would get down to -40 (F) when I was a child. It still can get to -30 below; but there hasn't been much of the lower temps in recent years up there. (& I moved down to the Twin Cities -Minneapolis & St. Paul - for the warmer weather. ;-)
Well - hopefully he will arrive on time. Hopefully he can fix your furnace. Hopefully he wont charge you an arm and a leg. Fingers crosed
We pay for a service through our energy bill; and it has come in handy over the years; so there shouldn't be any charge unless it's really something unusual. The furnace is only 10 years old, so I'm not expecting any surprises
Nef - Your describing living in those temperatures is like telling me you lived underwater. I simply cannot imagine living in that cold.
How are you doing, Soodle?
If you dress warm & you take precautions, it isn't so bad.
Oh dear Soodle. Sorry the recent chat has exhausted you.
I'm good thanks, Nef. Laid low with a nasty lung infection for a week or so, but bouncing back now! Was unable to visit aged parents due to fear of infecting them, but hopefully back to normal at weekend.
Are your parents doing better now?
So many people have had some very nasty bugs this winter, haven't they?\
Nef. Mom is 85 & Dad is 89. Improvement is unlikely. Status quo is what we hope for!
I thought one of them was sick recently?
Both have been sick!!
Oh!! And I hope all 3 of your have sufficiently recovered?
Molly! You are apologising for the chat? I was unaware that what was chatted about in the chog was your responsibility. I'm puzzled.
We're good now, Nef, thank you. That's an extremely wise precaution to have a service agreement on your boiler! Good thinking!
Oh I would never apologize for what is in chat. Just said I was sorry it exhausted you.
Molly, your concern for my exhaustion levels is duly noted & appreciated.
And with
And with this nice fuzzy warm feeling I've got from your concern, Molly, I'll say goodnight.
DH is rattling dishes in the kitchen trying to figure out what to have for supper. BBL
Good Night Soodle; take care!
Night Nef
Oh good. Nice, fuzzy, warm feelings.
Does anyone have the list?
Lickety is up.
Anniebrook touched the lives of every single Babbler she interacted with. Her descriptions of her views fron her apartment in Brooklyn in differing weather conditions used to leave me breathless. Her abiding and unconditional love for her beloved Bobby & Elizabeth were inspirational. That I don't have a picture of a candle as my profile is no indication that I will not sorely miss a kind, gentle, non-judgemental lady like Annie. It's not always necessary to post an ostentatious picture to mourn the passing of a valued friend.
Thank you
I don't have a candle either, but she and I mailed each other regularly over the years. And Bobby has even written notes to me
Hello soodle; I thinkspring has arrived. It is above freezing at night, at last
all this waxing about candles is making me weep
<hello ru, I'm having my post-midnight snack
oh.. I don't do that anymore ruby.. i'm the opposite of you.. i'm trying to lose weight
can anyone help me with the first ca 6/27?
It's the first night warm enough to leave the fountain on
the fountain?
It's in the middle of the fishpond; it aerates the water
The fish have just started to emerge from the mud
CA 6/27 A luxurious or stately carriage.
((zzoozz))
uh.. thanks I guess Zooz
no idea!
((Ruby))
crap.. I meant to type CR 6/27 the first one. I have all the ca's
Gee, I don't think the people in the Babble community posted candle icons in memory of Annie to be ostentatious. I think all the people who posted candle icons were just trying to do something in memory of a friend they made here.
CA + massive bug found in dirty catering places cock ****
cr 6/27 where certain organs exist
that cr is where your pants come together
*were trying to be ostentatious
some people are just cynical
CR 6/27 A crib for fodder.
I just don't want to change my icon; it's my homage to Max
Are there 2 CR-4S,
-4S :éè,
that's a new one for me.. that cr6
((Ruby))
i HAD BETTER GO TO SLEEP
lol bless you :-)
sorry for shouting
No one needs to post any icon other than what they want. If people choose to remember someone who has passed with a candle, that is nice. I'm not sure why that got complained about.
just someone trying to stir up drama .. methinks
Good night
I like the candles
Bed for me too. Sweet sleep, Ruby. Happy babbling everyone!
good night zooz and ruby
ostentatious (adjective) characterized by vulgar or pretentious display; designed to impress or attract notice.
Really? Internet friends who post a candle to remember a lost friend are ostentatious?
2nd fi5/20 pls
I think she was referreing to the icons not the people, Molly. and candles are certainly not ostentatioius. They are beacons of light.
Yes Peri, but why are the icons, meant to honor a lost friend, ostentatious? I just didn't get the comment. I agree, candles are beacons of light in a dark time.
I have no idea. totally wrong choice of a word on her part

Hi Ishult
Good for you! I was just going to go to the list since I didn't have the 9 or 10; now I don't have to! :-)
How are you doing with this grid? I've been in & out this evening; thought I'd be done before this but too many things going on tonight. (And I'm so glad I have heat again! Our furnace went out & we had to have a repairman come about 8:30PM
