hey folks.... my grandaughter and her husband to be are visiting australia in a few months/... they are going to sidney and a few other places..... any advice for them? i am apprehensive because it is so far and they are not
""seasoned travelers"... hr mother is really scared of this trip
I would think Aussie land is pretty safe for travels
any advice lizlin or dizgrannie??
Why scared? It's a long trip but Australia is a safe country. Take plenty of sunscreen.
Sammy, when in Sydney - they will HAVE to do tours of Sydney Harbour. Maybe travel up the Blue Mountains. Depends on where they are staying, there are al lot of day trips.
Don't walk in grassy areas! The Gold Coast is lovely - but get into the hinterland, away from the glitz of tourism.
they want to go to the opera house
what's wrong with grassy areas?
That whole area is beautiful - Sydney Rocks. There's a great walking tour of The Rocks.
the opera house is on Sydney Harbour - they will loved it.
It's what lurks in long grass, Ru, especially in warm weather.
ew.. like snakes?
lol Liz, seen a few around here.
The walking tour tells you something of the history of the area.
said something about carnes?
Yes, Ru. But as long as you keep your eyes open, you're all right.
maybe meant cairns?
ugh. no thanks
Cairns - to go to the Reef. We stay slightly out of Cairns in a place called Trinity Beach. Has good access to everything up there.
do you mean Cairns in Nth Qld? another beautiful place - Great Barrier Reef
Cairns itself is just a city.
did say they want to go to the reef
But Ru, in the 9 years I've lived here, I've seen nothing venomous - just a few pythons but I hate snakes and stay clear of them.
none of the pythons were named Monty by any chance?
If they go to the Reef, I recommend a company called Ocean Spirit. Also while there a tour into the Daintree and also to Kuranda.
I'd've liked to meet the Monty ones!
I just can't stand snakes
they scare the crap out of me
I'm in total agreement with you.
I would take on anything other than a snake
thanks... i will tell her
I'm sure they'll have an amazing time.
When are they headed out here. Just wondering if it'll still be whale watching season.
then i want them to come back and settle down and make babies
october i think
Probably still OK in Sydney and there are still a few up here in October. Well worth doing if the whales are still around.
did I tell you we saw a pod of orcas in the wild in BC Liz?
That's awesome Ru. We also saw some orcas up there. We went out whale watching from Victoria.
what causes these red boxes!!!!!!!!
We are totally obsessed by whale watching.
No idea, Flosey.
I once saw whales right in near the ferry dock, was quite a surprise to see them in so close
That must've been wonderful.
I love whale watching too
a very pleasant surprise
next time is bears and wolves for me in BC
Well, Ru - perhaps one day you'll get to the E Coast of Aus in whale watching season. The humpbacks are so active. Unfortunately it was cancelled due to bad weather when we were in NZ - but in any case at the moment Kaikoura is a no go area because of the last earthquake.
we did see a bear up the hill behind our home - ONCE only!!! he was standing on hind legs and leaning up against a tree
I will go to NZ.. I doubt i'll make it to aussie land in my lifetime
Bears and wolves sound exciting - from a bit of a distance.
Do it in one trip. What's a 3 hour flight compared to the flight from the USA?
next trip flosey.. I'm going to Haida Gwaii
Haida Gwaii???
yep
north of flosey
(used to be called the queen charlotte islands)
Ah, thanks. OK that's the name I learned back in school a long time ago.
Got to go. Expecting a friend any minute now. Good chatting.
have never been there ru, the year before we were married I came out and bussed up to Smithers -whew, what a trip!!, to see hubby - he was timber cruising as a summer job
I'm really looking forward to going there. I just visited tofino and liked that a lot
it is beautiful country
it sure is
I'm considering buying a place up your way
ah, lovely, ru
I like the Qualicum area the best so far
I did notice you sporting the Canadian flag lately
I'm going to pop in and see bugs on my way back and drive around with an agent.
lovely
we'll have to have another dinner party at Jilli's :D
I think she'd kill me if I tried that again :D
that would be lovely
I can't imaging!! I think she'd love it
i think we used every plate she had at her house
probably took two washings to do all the dishes!! but that was fun
yes.. it was.. especially for me
we also have a large diningroom - don't think we've ever sat more than 8 though
8 is perfect
I still have to do that veggie dinner with mr. flosey sometime
well, any time
time for bed.. have a great night flosey
good morning all
sweet sleep ru,
and, Good morning Sprite
*hugs flosey* Good evening to you
and that it is, time to hit the sack!! but must pick up a dozen more words so I'll be at least half way
:) Glad to have your company for a little longer
phantom: tornado
hugs for my dearest sprite, and flosey too. and before you ask, i have had a VERY busy day. prolly bit off more than i could chew. and i haven't finished yet.. mwah
hugs Rose, was just wondering if you'd be in tonight
*hugs rose* Okay sweetie, time to put your feet up, grab a glass of wine and find some more words with us.
feet up, pear cider though. i ache all over.
cider good too. *gentle healing vibes to your poor ole bod*
hmmm, pear cider sounds good, have never had it, only apple
I prefer apple. But the pear is good too.
but why so achey?
*fingers crossed* i think the pneumovax is doing it.
not familiar with that med.
quite possible. Body busy making antibodies.
vaccine against pneumonia. available free here for over 65's.
Good morning all
of course, overdoing it today did not help :P
*hugs Maisie* Good morning!
that's nothing to sneeze at granny
good morning Maisie
indeed it i snot, ru
Strange you talking about that vaccine, I got a letter yesterday offering me the same
{{maisie}} hugs dear
Hugs back xx
maisie, it's better than having pneumonia
I still feel too young for all that malarkey
most things are
You are both right of course
Might see if I can get it done at the same time as my travel injections
I'd say go get the vax. My daughter once had a hidden pneumonia. She overcame it without meds because we didn't know she was seriously ill. Took a lot out of her, brought her to an all-time low energy level.
My granddaughter Millie is coming with me, she is so excited for some reason
aw that is sweet
lovely Maisie, enjoy
She's staying with me for two nights from Sunday and the thing she most wants to do is go on a bus. She can't wait to get a bus pass like me lol
brilliant. You'll have such a great time together
She will be 4 next week so has a long time to wait
must get to bed - almost the witching hour! - 6 more minutes
good night all, be back in he morning for remaining 137
sleep well, flosey, and pleasant dreams *hug*
sweet dreams dear flosey *blows kisses*
Night flosey
lol, am at 181 left, 81 in.
can you believe it, I already did the grocery shopping. Caya is coming home for a night and I am gonna cook an indian meatball curry in the slowcooker.
Sound delicious I love Indian food
*blinks* is this the same sprite from yesterday? well done darling
oh, me too! Indian food is soooo good.
rose, it is a bit of emergency measure, lol... I try to do stuff before I run out of energy. But yeah, things are going better.
We need a "like" button on here like Facebook
first time I'll adapt a recipe to the slowcooker myself. Hope it will go well.
lol Maisie!
good on you honey.
Al you need is less liquid and it will be fine
thanks for that tip.
I used to love putting the slow cooker on then going to work. I'd come home forgetting that I'd put it on and be met by a lovely smell as I came in the door. Almost like someone else getting dinner ready for you
so very true! I bless the thing daily. I found out that this slowcooker has a little less power than most, so I will have to put things on for longer. Since I do that, every recipe is a success.
name that proper noun: biggest city in Michigan
detroit
let us know how it turns out Sprite - I'd love a recipe - seldom use the slow cooker (shame on me) but your dinner sounds good. I do love to cook, but, actually, hubby does most of the cooking here these days, bless him! And he is a good cook!
dingdingding our rose wins the egg holder
wish mine was
okay, will let you know and will share the recipe :)
and that would be a hen ??
lol
hmmmm prolly translates differently than I thought. The little cups in which you can put the boiled egg on the breakfast table. Egg cup?
Yes egg cup but you know Rose!
oh, remember our talk about ir4ing clothes? Here it is... and also our preferred form un8.
Thanks for that 8
*giggles* I know, I know. Rose, darling, the egg cup goes with the salt and pepper shakers set. If you win again, you will win the second egg cup to make it complete.
yvw :)
moi ?? what's wrong with a hen??....loll
silly rose :P
you two crack me up
prolly would suffocate in the bubble wrap...
the hen, not the egg cup
yeah, hens don't do well in bubble wrap.
Must go, last day at work. Probably be the last I do there as i'm back to babysitting duties from September
have a great day then, Maisie, make it count. *hugs*
here's to a good day maisie. xoxox
Thank you bye both xoxo
the bubble wrap would be good for the eggs though. Hm... might have to think up a device to keep the hen breathing but the eggs safely ensconced in bubble wrap.
oh, one of your grandkids is in the grid, rose!
yup, i know. too cute
and just like you and me, he is valid
Rob said to thank you both again for the garmin. He had to drive Caya to Deventer, and he said he would never have found the right address without the garmin. A fly poop in the middle of nowhere.
squirrel?
oh that is so good to see. don is pleased that it is proving useful.
*raspberries*
it is :)
*grins*
oh good grief you should hear our MP's. one of them wore a full burkah (sp) into parliament today.
to make a point or because she always does?
she wants the burkah banned in parliamentary rooms.
I wish people wouldn't fight over stuff like that. It isn't that long ago that a good Christian woman wore something to cover her head too. Give it time, things will mellow down.
i know honey. but not being able to ID who is under the burkah is a good point. but then, everyone goes though scanning before being allowed into parliamnet.
or give the burkah ladies a room where a female guard can ID them. It really isn't that hard to make it work, sigh
122 left for tomorrow, good night ladies
ohhhh flosey was doing a jilli on us! Good night again :D
must ask jilli why she's never here anymore, I do see her at bridge some nights
let us know. And please tell her she is being missed here
I will indeed, Sprite
naughty flosey. go to bed, and no, you cannot have a drink of water
fireflies. Off to make the meatball curry. *hugs* my darling. Sleep well tonight, and be kind to your aching body. Give my love to Don too.
honey, i had better go. still have to prepare food for the luncheon tomorrow. hope you have a great day and your evening with Caya is lovely. xoxox

Good morning
... good morning ruby ... but just for a bit ... wife's going to work early so I
Look, it's Ruby. Hi Ruby. : D
going back to bed
9 minutes 'til lunch arrives
Hello hello, Dose et Molly
... enjoy
... a silly question for you Ruby ... if you were staying in Paris which hotel or hotels would you recommend? ...
I'm afraid it's been too long
... bah well ... it has always been too long ... but thanks anyways
In the (distant) past, I stayed at the Ritw with late husband and, with my first husband (in our salad days) at the Hotel Cusset.
Ritz*
also the Westminster, the Intercontinental, and a Novotel
one extreme to another
... I'll check the Ritz just for fun ... I'm afraid it's likely to expensive ... at least it was for London
In London, fancy husband stayed at Claridge's
where
they made great martinis!
... didn't think to check that one .. but maybe just for an amusing lunch
The Ritz in Paris. Ooo-la-la
... ah well ... wife is off to the city ... I must go back to bed because I can't see the screen
back
Yes, Molly, back in the day!
I'm glad i did all that, back then

Usually I have to use a cccache cleaner to get a new picture to refresh
he mostly is! though this week, day care has called me every day because he has been crying uncontrollably...for seemingly no reason we can figure out! :(
My daughter was like that
what ended up being the problem? this is very unusual for him.
Teething? Have you ttried giving him a cold lemon?
It soothes the gums and little ones can hold it
Eventually by the time she was an adult she stpped crying. But, seriously she would cry all day long and then Mr. Bich came home from work and shes stp

someone else clued it earlier but I totally didn't get that one
it's okay, it can be really hard
I managed to figure it out if that helps
old school + to yield
yay!
re 9: prefix referring to an earlier time + word that rhymes with what the farmer sows
yes.. that is even better!
ty for re 9.
still trying to figure out how I can bles again :)
would love others. ty
bless with oil, mool
See I knew being an atheist would have a cost
oh...nevermind
got it, tx nan
if I'd found the 6 earlier, it would have made it a tad easier
ro 6 please?
how bout that RO6/18?
if there is re and bless, why isnt there a de and bless?????
I think some of those CEOs might have re5qu4 Trump's boards this week
you haven't tried to get oil out of clothes have you mkg
ro 6-18 r+ root vegetable
I'm good at putting oil on clothes however :)
Technically, in the eyes of the faithful, you cannot "unbless" someone
only veggie I see comes on a cob
me too..lol
root vegetable
oh.. duh..
it has many layers.. that clue does
the veggie mus star with an o, but don't see one
oh - yes, duh
there's not that many vegetables that start with o
makes you cry when you cut them
It is usually clued here as crying vegetable
I always get that way when I cut asparagus
really?
no

to7 sounds like an Italian pasta
But it is a dessert
thanks, Molly....didn't have that one....going to be a slog to finish tonight...
is that like the Italian soup name?
if you take out a few letters in the middle...
and put a different ending on it...
:o}
same first 3?
otherwise exactly the same
same first four...
flat top hill + female version of anthony abbreviated
this board has been real slow for me
ty pen and mool..mool the end of your clue got it for me
yay
mool you probably have less to find then I do ...157 to go
only have 9 greyed tiles...and started the grid with 4 of them grey
40 here
i have 1 tile greyed
i don't have any....still 78 to find...
well you must have the bottom R, E and I as well as the lower O grey ;)
i don't really think about that when i play...
ooh, another grey
I don
well, yes... but none i have personally greyed...
almost entire middle column grey now
I don't either Pen
I normally think about black forest cake when I play
TI 6/18?
I just play for the fun of finding words. Not how many words I have, or posting about that, or what tiles are grey, etc.
Do you have a problem if others do?
No, and I did not say that I did. Just saying how I play.
well good to know
i don't...people play in many different ways...that alone is interesting to me...
indeed
Each person can play the game however they want to. And post about how they do that. If someone posts about how they play, it does not indicate that they have a problem with others who play differently.
Ti 6/18?

looks like wrinkly is not there. Should of said wrinkled. Still you got what I meant lol
hallelujah - done here, too.
Congrats, Welki!
how are you, zooz? haven't 'seen' you for a long time
I am okay, Welki. Was having nighmares so just had to get up and it is only just past 3am here.
I hope you are doing well, Welki?
i was just trying to figure out what time it was on your side of the sea - nightmares are the pits
i'm doing well, thanks - busy time of year for me, trying to get so much done before the days get shorter and the weather turns
Yeah I tried to go back to sleep but went stright back into the same scenario so had no choice.lol
Well I do hope you find time to try and relax and have some downtime to have fun.
oh i hate that - don't have them often, but when i do, they're doozies
I hate the cold shorter days like you said are fast approaching!
Same here I do not get them as often as I used to do. Thank goodness.
when i was a kid and had a bad dream, i would imagine nureyev and fonteyn dancing swan lake - not a happy story, but if i replayed it in my head, and imagined the music, i could fall back asleep
I had such bad recurring nightmares as a child that I started including a prayer every night that I would have NO dreams (because I thought it was too selfish to ask God to only give me good dreams). Oddly, it worked, and I kept that prayer in my repertoire for several years, just in case.
Aww that is sweet, Welki. Not nice having bad dreams when a little nipper. My problem now is i am wide awake and fully dressed again.
nbt nbs
((Welki)) (( Nrkii) what lovely ladies you both are.
i visualized (without knowing what it was), nrkii staved them off with prayer - if that doesn't work, there's always warm milk or a shot of brandy :)
I prayed for God to bless me in my dreams one night. I had a nightmare about being in debt. To this day, I believe that was actually a message from God.
I have a cup of very weak tea at the moment. But I kno I am up for the rest f the day now. I will probably have a nap later.
Know*
My bad recurring nightmare was about Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. He was paralyzed and in a coma, and it was my fault, and Eydie kept telling me it was my fault, and I felt paralyzed. Funny thing was, I was 10 years old, and I really had no idea who Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were.
too bad you're already dressed, zooz. give me a few minutes and i could bore you back to sleep
you probably saw them on tv, or heard them on the radio - but that's a strange and frightening dream for a child to have
There are milllions of people out there who need so much more help than I need. There is know way God is going to bother with me.
Have! you would never bore me, Welki. I like your accounts of what is going on in your life :-)
everyone has their own struggles, zooz. large or small, there's no reason not to ask for some relief
I did see them on TV one night as I was saying good night to my parents, and I think I rolled my eyes or said something about how boring they were. And then the dreams started.
Wow that is strong, Nrkii. like , Welki, said you must f heard about them at some point.
I didn't get over my loathing of them until they did some guest appearances on The Nanny.
my one tonight was my dad slumped at the top of the window as he has a lot of things health wise going on and he had had enough and jumped out. I was running to try and stop him managed to grab his shirt but it just ripped and he fell.
<-- will try not to hum any of their songs if we run into each other again
LOL Welki that made me smile.
aw zooz - sounds like you're feeling pretty powerless
yes I am at the moment.Welki. Sort of stuck in the middle so to speak.
zooz, that sounds like a bad one... I find when I have those kinds of dreams, I just feel completely off for at least half a day
Yes I have to blast my brain with lots of different things like this now I have some music going.Drinking tea. etc
maybe do a search for some steve and eydie music, zooz *lol*
LOL you are wicked, Welki :-)
I am listening to 'I want to stay here' lol
hi all
i don't think nrkii's old enough to remember that one - or you, either, zooz.
hey owl
just on my way out. busy day tomorrow at work, and then getting ready for a charity tournament on the weekend
Have a good one, Welki. And thanks for the chat :-)

probably.
i have no co 7s. have an 8 and lots of sixes. sorry.
remember telephone operators and party lines?
we were talking today about using a "code" to make a collect call. You would send a collect call, the person receiving it would decline, and you would hang up. The person would then know that you had arrived at your destination, without having to pay for the call.
wow i remember it well!!!!!!!!!
boy do i remember that.
for our kids the idea of long distance calls costing money is unknown.
yes - I remember that -- you would get a 3 minute long distance call for $1.00 and 50 cents per minute after that - a small fortune in those days.
