Hi Judi. I always wondered where the geographic borders are for using the word y'all.
Well, we live just a wee bit north of the Mason-Dixon and I'm originally from upstate NY. However, I find it to be a charming and useful contraction.
My mom was from Louisville so she said y'all but we lived in RI where "youse" or "youse guys" were more the norm :-)
I think it is used south of DC.
"youse" gets used around here too. I don't subscribe to that one, though.
To quote my 7th grade history teacher, "Youse guys shaddup and siddown!"
It's popular in Philly.
