Cos, my brother said it's totally up to the alcoholic to stop drinking. It helps if the partner doesn't drink; but only the one person can decide not to drink. Even if you tried to stop him; he'd drink if that's what he wanted to do.

No pain is good. You've been through a bit though. My sweetie is feeling a bit "beat up" after his second round yesterday. He's being really good about resting.

He has had both, Liz. Doing very well, and the doctor said he was the best patient *ever* - I hope the success of the surgery is the *best ever* too!
That's awesome - will keep my fingers crossed for the best ever outcome :)
His battery was installed yesterday, it will be about 4 weeks before he gets programmed. We have very high hopes he can return to normal activites without tremors at all - the "test fire" during the first surgery completely stopped the tremors, so the surgeon is very positive!
it amazes me what doctors can do these days. That's so great, Kam.
DBS - deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's. It *is* Parkinson's Awareness Month, so I'm broadcasting awareness all over ;)

my pain doc, himself an anaesthetist, told HIS anaesthetist on Saturday, Rosie has a great vein and i am not telling you where it is. not matter how she pleaded he wouldn't tell her. told her to find her own vein. it gave me such a chuckle, to hear how carefully he protected his venous access.

We're pooped out. He had his second surgery yesterday, and we have to return Thurs for stitch rremoval from the first round. The second surgery is more painful, so he'll be hurting for a couple more days. He was awake and aware today finally. I'm looking forward to a few weeks from now when he "gets programmed" at long last!

the test companies do make a ton of money, that is for sure. I have never seen the test results used as anything but a real estate indicator

we took achievement test, but they were used to let the parents know where you stood in relation to where you should be, and for things like placement in G&T programs and the like... they were not used to judge the teachers or as a way to get funding. I cannot imagine being told as an elementary student that my test score would mean my school got funding or not as is happening in TX - that is just so ludicrous

in secondary school we took a full set of tests every summer term. I couldnt wait. I loved them. Always better at exams than usual course work
the tests were just something we did - I don't remember them being played up, being stressed, or all the notes and such that now go home to parents before the test for prep work. We just showed up, and it was test day

and aloy is correct - it is a huge money making business... several news outlets have reported over the years how much money the testing companies make, and now they can sell products as well so your students can do better - no conflict of interest there of course
well, we need to think hard about the purpose behind testing; if it is intended to help improve the education of our students, is it working? Is it worth it? Is there a better way to achieve that goal than testing? What really happens with the results?

In massachusetts, the test results are published, so people know what towns do better on the tests - this ties into the real estate piece. Towns that do well have NO incentive to do better, as there is no benefit to doing so - only the towns that perform poorly are given funding to "improve scores." Or, as kje noted, the test companies swoop in to offer testing prep courses - for pay, of course.

teachers with students who don't perform well are "spoken to" and directed to teach to the test. As if how students do on a pre-made, standardized test has ANYTHING to do with how those students learn, achieve, etc.

It is drudgery, to be sure - especially if you are on hand and knees...
i do it the old fashioned way. my no wax is old and requires the upkeep of a regular floor
so to do it right, it needs a floor finish afterwards.
Ugh! Mine is too... textured linoleum and the dirt gets in all the little cracks and crevices. I really have to use elbow grease to do a good job.
That's the smart thing to do TO. Less dirt to adhere after you get it done properly.
