someone in town is still popping and banging away, and it's almost 1 AM. Dogs were not happy all day, but don't think they were too traumatized overall.
I feel for the critters. I have read of fireworks that are all display and no audio... some cities (in Europ??) have mandated them over the loud options. (Maybe it will catch on here? I would hate to see fireworks banned outright.. but even I dont do well with random shrieks and booms....to sat nothing of the critters that are scared. Some yahoo let off a handfull at 3AM last night - I let out a stringh of invectives that likely made it all the way down to my landlord's place... I was cursing a blue streak :/
during our early years in this house, the local town cop tried and tried to find something he could take exception to with us. One 4th - it was the 3rd, actually - Hubs was setting off a few bottle rockets to entertain the kids, and here he came. "It's not the fourth yet!" Sigh.
so of course Hubs made sure to run past midnight on the 4th, just because.
Hard for him to fuss then, though, half the town was also still at it. And they're all related. Almost 30 years here, many still treat us like the "new folks in town."

I am glad most police here are still nice and helpful. I still remember one though... fining me for walking (!) through a red light, in pouring rain, with me carrying two extremely heavy bags of groceries and not a car or any other vehicle in sight. I made them remind me of paying the ticket until I knew it had cost them more than it netted them, lol.
ALOL sprite, you are naughty! and yes, there is always ONE in the bunch...if it's anything like here, you should have gone to court and pleaded innocent and thrown yourself on the mercy of the judge... in all likliness the policeman that wrote the ticket wouldn't have been able to appear over such a trifling matter and then. poof all is well?
yeah, but this was more fun, lol. Mind you, this was a long time ago, before they changed the policy on paying tickets. Nowadays, you have to pay before a certain date or the fine will be doubled.

that is very nice. I so hate fireworks. Well, not looking at it, from a big distance, that is okay. But the noise is hell for someone with ptsd. December here is more or less a loss for me... cannot function much. Wish they would make it law that only licensed ppl can light it, and not everyone with a bit of cash. Like kids. So many accidents, and so much noise everywhere... not worth it!

There were several fires locally yesterday, but I haven't heard of any today, thankfully!
One kid is in BIG trouble - almost burned down a couple of houses, fortunately our firefighters ROCK! They saved all the dwellings, and stopped the fire at 3/4 acre, yay CalFire!

Kate, yes, officially we are allowed to light fireworks from December 31 in the morning until New Year's Day 3 am. But ppl are at it all of december, more and more nearing NY. It drives me batty every year.

I have noticed a large increase in fireworks being shot off all through the year now... any family celebration including bitrhdays... maybe they are too cheap? I think they are very expensice, but.... and yes, we do hasve a run at New Year now as well.. this is relatively new - the last decade.... It seems we cant go two weeks at any time of year without someone setting them off... BUT I did just find our that most fireworks are now banned in New York State, so they come here to buy and set them off.. being a border community, many aUS peole have small places here...

When Michael and I first got together as a couple, his job had just made him cut his hair. He only asked me to cut it when they told him he needed a cut. I didn't know how to cut hair! So a friend showed me and picked out a couple of different scissors I could use. I was so glad when he could finally let it grow again! But, now it is up to him. I don't care one way or the other, but I'm not a barber. He can find one if he decides short is more comfortable...after years of bitching about haircuts!

I was thinking this weekend - I need to learn how to be a parent to adults - so far, I am not so good at it. Like yesterday - we were meeting up, and I brought towels, sunscreen, waters for all....and they all had their own, of course...because they are adults. And somehow it was HILARIOUS that I had brought them.
heh..time to volunteer with younger ones trifs... I still get to do that just with other peoples' children.

Oh deeha.. well.. For the last 6 years I have had tremendous stress ( babblers will note i have not been around a great deal) and that finally was lifted in february. As i began to recoup, i started to boat and my brain got foggy. Iput that to exhaustion. but then a few weeks ago i felt like I woke up 2 sizes bigger. Add in itchy ears ( deep itch) craving for sweets in the a.m. dark circles, IBS, the foggy brain as i said.

Honestly, with the pre and probiotics,vit c,callogen, and lemon water... i didnt find it too bad. the first 2 days you drink the horrid broth... and you HURT bc as the fungus dies off it releases toxins. you feel like you have the flu, but it a good freakin hurts bc you KNOW you are on the right track... it is bc of the overgrowth die off.. and then way more energy... and feel "good"

No. I had a really rough June, flew out to MT for a wedding & back again (with hubby)the first weekend, my best online friend (that I've known for 18 years or sao, another RN) died the next weekend, then my brother-in-law died in a rafting accident the 3rd weekend; and the family reunion I've been planning was the 4th weekend. (135 people said they were coming; we know there were somewhere between 110 & 120 that came.)

Soodle, thank you. As I said, it wasn't a good month. I'm glad it's over; but I'm just beginning to get back to normal again. The wedding & the reunion were good; the 2 deaths were tough. And both memorials were on the same day as the reunion, so I couldn't go (1 in TN and 1 in MT)

THe reunion was a huge success. My cousin had chosen to go back to our great grandparents (on my Mother's side); they had 5 children and we couldn't find any descendants from 1 of those families. We tried contacting the ones we could find; but they never responded.
Shouldn't be too bad. We get a lot of daonations from a store here and what I don't get from them, I can get from some faithful local folks. We are ddoing so much good for the community right now. It's a blessing.

Some kids can go through 3 - 4 pairs of shoes a year during those growth spurts, right?
I've given out 135 rolls of toilet paper in the past couple of weeks. I can't imagine being so bad off that you are beyond grateful for a single roll of TP.
In some ways, it's getting harder to track peole down...not just things like name changes from marriages but so many no longer have land lines, so looking in a telephone book to cold call isn't as likely to yield results. I think you did very well - you did track down a lot of them... you had quite a turnout!
Nef- mine certainly did. That's why I hope if we get them all covered through Christmas they will be good until at least spring. During the year I take donations like that to the Title I schools and the counselors ditribute it to the kids they know need it most. Many of them don't have socks or underwear.
The reunion was fun; but it was a lot of work. If I had to do it over; I'd write on the invites that no one should leave until we took group pictures. I forgot to do that until a bunch of people left; the group photos we have show anywhere from 84 - 88 people.
<--- will queue for TP ;) I am forever running out... I won't pay the ridiculous prices there days - not when it goes on for 3.99 from 13.00 on a regular babsis...try to stock up, but you can only crry so much in one trip and if you have to factor in another 5.50 for bus fare .. grrr
magnum; that really makes me sad. I used to donate kids socks to the local elementary school; I couldn't keep up with the demand after the 2nd spring.

Yuo could always e-mail everyone to solicit pics... you may ppic up a few that got missed in the group photos... and hint... get the people's names tagged in the photos online... memories are short!

I don't know that series at all. What age is it written for? (My 9 year old grandson is a very good reader but doesn't like to do it; he's "into" computer games instead. The grandson I spoke of & I had a 'discussion' at the library. He was turning hormonal. I saw "A Wrinkle in Time' on display & said, 'Oh Jeffy, you'll love this.' Took one look, said nah. We came to a compromise that I would take out other books for him plus Wrinkle & he only had to read it for 5 minutes. So he thought he was being clever & tried to get it out of the way first, when we got home - you all know where this is going - an hour later, he's still reading. Periodically, I would remind him his 5 minutes were up LOL.

I have a question for you helen-- I heard on a (somewhat right wing) talk show that comparisons of Trump to Hitler were offensive to those who survived the holocaust-- I think that it's important to notice the early signs of Fascism-- suppression of the free press, taking over Sinclair to broadcast propaganda, taking people away to put in detention camps, & more-- we have to be aware of these signs and stop them so that a travesty like the Holocaust will NEVER happen again-- I'm asking you because of your personal background-- I hope you're not offended-- no offense intended-- just enlightenment...

lib - What you heard is pure BS. I am on a bunch of different FB sites to do with WWII - informative, supportive . . . There aren't that many survivors left, but if they're still 'of their wits' they'll be freaking out. ALL first generation, like me, are quite terrified - not only here in the US, but across the world. You are completely correct in everything you say & those who have been fortunate enough to make it through the war & were able to talk about it, have instructed my generation to NEVER FORGET. These sites were discussing the comparison prior to him being elected!

I've been an election judge for a long time, so I have many connections to help register people. I do that. What's been tremendous is that as of, hmmmm, 4 (?) years ago, they've allowed high school seniors to serve as election judges right along with us. It's a great way to get out the young vote & that's what's going to make a difference. I'm 100% behind those kids from Florida.

I am not a fan of thunderstorms now that I am older, though when I was a child in Virginia they happened a lot in the summer and I loved them. Would go play on the little screened porch with my dolls and watch the white oaks across the street sway back and forth.
