12:49 am

It's late, I have to be up early, I've satisfied my minimal requirements of NBS, NBT, and at least halfway on every tile and stat. So I'll be back to finish this later. Or I won't. Either way, I'll see y'all later. *poof*

Hello, Mrp. How are you keeping? Any sgns of Spring arriving yet?

2:59 am

Signs*

Hello zoom! Winter is on us!

I’m well thank you! How are you?

3:01 am

All fine here thanks! We have been getting some of your Summer weather here with temps around 30c loving it!

Ooh, that is nice! Hot summer nites?

3:03 am

Not too bad..around 17-19c I am right next to the sea so mostly get a sea breeze as you know that knocks the temperature down a bit more. So it is nice!

Perfect! We have terrible hot nights in January and February...up around 32 with 95% humidity. Glad you have nicer weather

3:06 am

Surprisingly here there has been non Precipitation here for just over a month now. Have used most of the water from the three water containers I have.

3:07 am

Oh yuck high humidity with big temperatures is an energy zapper that is for sure. Hope you good A/C or lots of fans.

We are ac friendly for sure! Very expensive though.

No rain? That is unreal!

3:15 am

Yes I can imagine it is. A case of sweat and melt or spend money and try and keep cool.

3:16 am

I know..the grass here everywhere looks like hay. there are pockets of rain in the UK but just has not got to this part yet.

We are very dry! No green at all.

Bbs zoom! Happy babbling

3:18 am

Very nice to see you, Mrp. Hope yo have a great evening!

You too zoom m)

3:23 am

Hi there. We finally had rain last night. I'm hoping we get a little more over the next few days. I didn't manage to mow the lawn at the right time (and it's more weeds than grass, so some things shoot up really fast). Most of the lawn is too dry to mow, it would just rip it all out

3:25 am

Hi, Buggie :-) Weeds are a bane that is for sure. I should thinkyour grass will soon be lush and green again in no time!

3:28 am

They say there is some rain for this area tonight but it is very localised and could miss us completely. After that there is no more forecast for a while. Not to have rain often is not the norm here. It normally rains here every other day lol

3:40 am

Oh I discovered that my lawn used to be the veg patch, which is why the grass is so patchy. I haven't been able to do anything about it yet (so much to do on the house and in the garden). But over here it's quite common for the lawn to be brown in august. It seems to take good instincts (and well timed free time) to get it mowed just before it completely dries out

3:40 am

Down to 38 words. Have one of the sevens. But I need the E on the right hand side. May I have the stat for it please?

3:41 am

(the Google Earth software is great as you can go back in time on the satellite images)

3:43 am

Yeah I heard that some vegetables can stunt the growth of other plants so i suppose it is the same for grass. Maybe the thing to do is dig down a feet or so and remove that dirt and replace it. That way the grass should be able to grow fine. But a big job depending on how big the patch of land is.

3:44 am

Google street is good too I often go to my parents home and we google street where we used to live and go up and down the road LOL

3:44 am

I'd estimate that part of the garden is around 500m². I need to start sowing grass seeds in the wetter seasons. In some places it's all moss on the ground

3:45 am

but I don't mind it too much. I had lots of wild orchids and poppies this year that I mowed around

3:45 am

And it's really beautiful when it turns into a sea of violets or daisies

3:46 am

Oh wow that sounds really nice, Buggie. I love the look of a natural looking garden/field flowers

3:48 am

I heard the best time to sow grass seed is in the autumn as there is less chance of the bigger weeds growing then.

3:49 am

I have fond memories of "bluebell woods" where I originally come from in England. So the violets this year were such a lovely surprise. It was a very wet spring so some things grew amazingly well

3:49 am

noted zooz, thanks

3:49 am

I get moss on the lawn where I have trees as it tends to stay darker and damp.

3:51 am

I have a forest near by, Buggie that has a natural bluebell groth in it. It is a site to behold when they are all out! A carpet of blue with all the trees.

3:52 am

Well when I say I have I don't mean it is mine LOL just near by.

3:52 am

Yes, I love bluebells. They don't grow so well here

3:53 am

right, off to get my shower before the delivery man gets here

3:53 am

Hope you have a great day, Buggie. And thanks for the chat. Good to see you :-)

3:55 am

Ha! And I found that lone E YaY me!

3:57 am

Right my time is up for now. exactly 35 words left and only one seven left to find.

3:58 am

Will come back later to see if I can find any more words.Happy babbling everyone!

4:00 am

hi Trif

6:46 am

hello

6:48 am

ok....slight rant. WHY can't people just let things be simple? We were invited to join friends for a sport event this weekend. Of course one of the group had to get all "let's over kill this" and created a frigging online sign up thing for people to say what they would bring. and now she is hammering those who haven't signed up yet. Because god FORBID someone not just, I don't know, show up and have fun? okay, rant over.

6:50 am

LOLOLOL! I say stay home and help me move instead :)

8:18 am

This is the first morning in a while that I just can't even pick up the newspaper or watch the morning news.

8:19 am

oh crap i don't even want to know why

8:19 am

I get that, dorens... it is just so exhausting

8:19 am

morning kje

8:20 am

hi kj. no special reason feather, I just can't handle it anymore. Need a break

8:20 am

how about this to cheer you up: https://bit.ly/2uMSeio

8:20 am

colbert's take on the double negative

8:20 am

ahhh, ok, yeah i totally get that. i've not really been on FB as much this past week, and i think that's a good thing. i'll go in to catch up, but i'm not being sucked in for ages.

8:21 am

i'm finding i like being here instead.

8:21 am

he is inviting putin to another mtg here in the states for the fall

8:21 am

oh goodie

8:22 am

that'll be fun. *snark*

8:22 am

and I can't even laugh with the late niters anymore, bc it just isn't funny

8:22 am

yes kj, I heard that last night and I think that might have been the last straw for me. The insanity of it, while we're all still trying to figure out what deal he made behind closed doors. Just purely incredible

8:23 am

Maybe he will let him light the Christmas tree on the White House lawn....

8:23 am

yes, shirl. I record Colbert every night, love his monologues, nut right now i'm finding it hard to laugh at it.

8:23 am

*snort* dianne!

8:23 am

and congress has completely abdicated their role in governing. it is amazing

8:24 am

Where are the intelligent moderate Republicans? They actually refused to pass a bill yesterday to fund election monitoring? Seriously????

8:24 am

watching them twist into pretzels to try and justify this s*** is amazing

8:25 am

I am becoming terrified. No checks and balances anymore. The future looks pretty grim. Mueller may be the only hope

8:26 am

dorens, he's already sowed so many "it's lies" seeds that mueller would only be more partisan

8:26 am

it's sad how scared i've gotten to talk about it. i'm so used to monitoring what i say on FB because i have family that like him, so to be able to talk here is interesting.

8:26 am

All right, before we get chastised for daring to talk politics in chog, maybe we should leave it here. I just assume that people with brains (and that includes most babblers) are of like mind.

8:26 am

it's going to get worse before it gets better

8:27 am

Ah, I wrote that before I read feather. Go ahead and vent, why not?

8:27 am

lol, no, it's fine! just to know that i can *snort* here and if anyone has a problem with it, i don't really care because i'm not related to them!

8:28 am

hahaha

8:28 am

how democracies die, dorens? very well documented historical look at democracies around the world by some historians... I wish we could count on mueller or the supreme court, or congress... but when they start to align like they are now, there is no one of them that can stand up and save it - it takes a unified force to call out someone with despotic tendencies, and that isn't happenening. The conquor and divide tactic is definitely winning

8:28 am

yeah, i'm curious, feather, how do your peeps justify? is it just FOX gospel?

8:28 am

that should have started - have you read

8:28 am

they don't challenge or question anything. they believe the craziest crap, and everything is twisted.

8:29 am

I'm easing off facebook for a different reason. I've been so involved with Indivisible groups and we all keep posting the same stuff and it's beginning to weigh too heavily and I need a break from it.

8:30 am

one of my friends keeps saying you have to let them talk as they're entitled to their opinions, i say, they're entitled to their INFORMED opinions, otherwise, it's garbage

8:30 am

ok KJ, IF everyone who feels this way got involved with Indivisble groups and worked on getting out the vote and educating the majority who pay no attention, that might help

8:30 am

what's indivisible? i've not heard of it

8:30 am

the november vote is critical

8:31 am

i just hope people aren't apathetic in november

8:31 am

in my congressional district only 37% of registered voters voted in the last midterm election. I'm involved in door to door canvassing of all registered democrats or independents,

8:32 am

Good morning

8:32 am

hi ori

8:32 am

and postcard writing, and sending Vote By Mail applications to all 18 - 22 year olds who aren't registered republicans with notes exhorting them to vote

8:33 am

Indivisible groups began all over the country after the 2016 election. Trying to create a movement much as the Tea Party did in response to Obama

8:33 am

ahhh, ok

8:33 am

Folks who have good representatives can sign on to write postcards to targeted districts that can (and MUST) be flipped in November

8:35 am

don't forget the gerrymandering problem -- it's hard to flip when the districts are so carved out

8:35 am

IF interested, check out NJ11th For Change on facebook. Or nj11thforchange.com Rachel Maddow, Newsweek, BBC news, the New York Times have all featured us. We actually succeeded in getting our Representative (Rodney Frelinghuysen, chair of appropriations committee) to not run for reelection.

8:36 am

really? wow!

8:36 am

Eric Holder is working on a committee to deal with that, Shirl

8:37 am

And we have a Female Navy Helicopter Pilot and former US attorney running for the seat. We're working our butts off to get her elected. And there are women all over the country who are doing the same.

8:39 am

you have another babbler in NJ who has also been super involved. (asgreen) It is somewhat different here because I am in a densely blue area with the highest consistent voter turnout in the state of CA

8:39 am

feather I haven't been on fb in a few years don't even know if I still have a page there or not

8:40 am

ohhh mlf

8:41 am

And ye, KJ that is why folks from your district (all my kids are in Brooklyn, Cali, Maryland with terrific representatives) are signing up for postcard writing.

8:41 am

KJ you can find ou which indivisible organization is active in Texas and help them out, even tho from afar. Beto does need help

8:42 am

<---does not like this grid

8:42 am

Shirl, here's the link to Eric Holder's work on gerrymandering https://democraticredistricting.com/

I can't believe doula isn't accepted!

10:39 am

10:39 am

WOOOT! One more thing off your mind :D

10:40 am

Yep. Have finals Monday and Tuesday and then a 3 week break before fall semester starts

10:41 am

That should be enough to give you a break and get the rest of your life caught up a bit ;)

10:41 am

That's an early start for the semester...?

10:41 am

I hope so!

10:43 am

Most schools in this part of the country start 2nd or 3rd week of August.

10:43 am

I didn't know about that mag... oh geez! Are you close enough that you are charged with care and recovery?

10:44 am

Yep. Only child. We moved her into assisted living in Feb. About 3 miles from house. She loves it there.

10:45 am

Ah.. well that works well then. You aren't the olny one to help her... so glad she loves it there.. making lots of new friends?

10:47 am

She has a new bestie. (which is good since the other one passed) They have lots of activities and take journeys out and about to lunch and shop

10:48 am

Sounds fantastic... I thnk the worst can be lonliness as we age.

10:50 am

We lived with her for two years, but she has some dementia (not terrible) and we worried about her when we couldn't be home with her.

10:52 am

That sounds more familiar... so glad everything is turning out so well.

10:55 am

Okay, I'm going back to studying. I'll pop back in later. Enjoyed chatting!

Hello Babblers, I have both sad & wonderful news to report today. A dear friend of mine has died. I am in shock. My best friend for close to 40 years has dealt me another shock, although this one is incredibly the best thing that could happen right now.

1:09 pm

Helen, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

1:09 pm

Hello Helen. So sorry to hear.

1:10 pm

What is the good news?

1:11 pm

Sorry about your friend Helen

1:12 pm

Hi Ori!

Get e-mail from BFF, he has been staunch Republican all his life, have long since given up arguing, let him have his rants. His brief note began with the words "OK, your team has won." Along with a link. I am very aware this is a taboo subject on Babble, but this is of such extreme significance that it cannot be ignored. My friend is genius level, except for the politics thing, but this goes so far beyond. I encourage everyone to read this link, listen to the entire video because here is THE PROOF. Your choice, of course, whether or not to listen, I strongly suggest you all do & then disseminate, disseminate, disseminate. https://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/34-ye\nars-ago-a-kgb-defector-described-ameri\nca-today

Thank you very much for the condolences. They are very much appreciated.

1:22 pm

Didn't work for me either

Hmmmm, copying right from link. Try again, it worked for me. https://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/34-ye\nars-ago-a-kgb-defector-described-ameri\nca-today

1:24 pm

remove the last part after paul-ratner and then it goes to his page and then scroll down to the story

1:25 pm

I can see the problem. Clearly someone, my guess is Russians, don't want this to get out. Someone was inserted backward slashes, take those out.

1:26 pm

Babble does not like long links so normally you would have to take out the /n in the link.

1:26 pm

So it is always best to use tinyurl.com :-)

All hail to zoom!!! What he says.

1:26 pm

He's always right!

1:26 pm

:-)

zoom - those '/n' are not in the link I received, someone has changed them, this scares me more. Please listen to the entire interview.

1:28 pm

no it is babble that inserts the /n, Helen. Not sure why. Been doing that for many years.

Thanks zoom, was not aware of that. I don't believe I've ever posted a link, but this news MUST get around. Especially if you are LGBT ..., a prisoner, anyone who feels threatened now.

1:33 pm

afternoon, all!

1:34 pm

Hi Eva!

1:34 pm

Hows Mr K?

Has anyone listened to the link I posted?

1:35 pm

hello hego -- little man K is doing quite well! not a baby anymore, thats for sure!

1:36 pm

Will be 2 soon?

1:36 pm

in September!

1:36 pm

WOW!

1:37 pm

i know - time flies!

1:37 pm

yeah, mine will be 7 in september

1:38 pm

When you watch kids grow it seems to go faster.

1:38 pm

the rate at which they change is staggering

https://tinyurl.com/ybkgub3o It is THAT important.

1:38 pm

read through the article - didn't realize you could also listen to the interview. The interview video link is all the way at the end of the article that I have

1:40 pm

In 2 minutes Helen

Yes, the video is at the bottom of the article. Please listen, watch him closely, although a defector, still a look of immense pride for the Soviet accomplishment - and they just began.

1:43 pm

I would argue that disbelieving facts in spite of evidence is not something that is engineered, but rather a core component of humans

mool - Are you questioning the veracity of what he is saying?

1:44 pm

I am skeptical of the proposition that the

1:45 pm

I am skeptical of the claim that the Russians have engineered the US political discussion

1:46 pm

I believe the Russians are working to create chaos, but the claims within that article point to a process which has a certain conclusion, and that the Russians are basically the architects of what is going on right now

This video is 34 years old. Events have played out exactly as predicted. Russians play the long game, it is their strategy - explain to me why Stalin emerged from WWI unscathed after slaughtering over 20 million people - Long Game. I am showing you white in front of your face and you are denying it.

1:47 pm

I think that is playing into fears, and providing a simplistic answer to something that is broader and more complex

1:47 pm

People make the same claims about Nostradamus

1:48 pm

I agree with Mool. Very sceptical.

Yes, exactly mool, that's exactly correct. The video is 34 years old, defector, who still shows pride in his face. Are you unfamiliar with Russian sleeper moles, Cold War. Yes, we should be afraid, very afraid.

1:48 pm

Stalin emerged unscathed for the same reason that people like the Kim family in North Korea survived...or Castro in Cuba, or Pol Pot in Cambodia...or Kabila in Congo

1:48 pm

or even Maduro in Venezuela

1:48 pm

They rig the system around them to retain the power

Exactly, they have been & continue to be rigging us. You refuse to believe it.

1:49 pm

In Stalin's case he ruled by fear, he killed off those who were a threat, in the same way that the North Korean rulers do

And in the same way Putin does.

1:49 pm

In China it's more political sabotage, but Mao Tsetung killed 10s of millions and remained in power for many years after he caused those deaths

1:50 pm

Yes, Putin uses political power to isolate and neutralize his enemies

At the core is the rot, we, a country of free speakers have the ability to stop that rot. All those other countries you mention, every single one, did not have the 'rights' we do here. We can fight back, they didn't have the tools we do.

1:51 pm

I do find the evidence that Russians are attempting to sow dischord as a legitimate claim, but the determinism in that article is more conspiratorial IMO that

1:51 pm

In a sense, the article is using the same methods they're describing the Russians doing, to try and get you to come to a determined conclusion

1:52 pm

Venezuela did, Congo does to some extent

1:52 pm

Populism is powerful though

1:52 pm

Hitler was popularly elected

1:53 pm

Mussolini too

Okay, I'm done. You want to keep your blinders one, your right. You soon may not have that right.

1:53 pm

What's going on in Turkey also could be construed to be the process of changing from a democracy to authoritarian rule

1:54 pm

If you have a point that you think I'm missing, I'm happy to listen

No mool, I have said my piece in my last response, I have bigger fish to fry. I respect your right to have your belief.

https://tinyurl.com/ybkgub3o

1:59 pm

As I do yours. I'm open to convincing, I am a liberal at heart, and I am a political junkie, but I am also someone who is very much driven by logic and discussion. I think it's good to be skeptical, particularly with politics...as most time someone is trying to sell you something

2:00 pm

I strive to have an open mind, rather than a closed one...certainly don't feel I have blinders on

2:22 pm

Found my last seven lettered word!

2:23 pm

Congrats! I don't have any yet, but not through with my first pass yet.

2:23 pm

They had regional accents, l guess, but it was truly incomprehensible (and maybe they mumbled)

Lots of times I can't understand Musterpice without captions.

4:25 pm

l struggle with French-langguage movies, but as long as it's not comedy, l'm OK

I used to go to these monthly two-day long meetings populated by high level folks. We all brought our laptops and my work one was acting up so I brought my personal one once. My friend had snuck into my computer and changed my background to one of that former VP candidate in a red, white and blue bikini with a shotgun over her shoulder and I had no idea. When I turned my computer on a bunch of these folks saw it. I didn't say a word.

9:50 pm

Niters teach :)

10:22 pm

Hamooooo

10:22 pm

Damn it

10:34 pm

Is ls1 on here? We're neighbors and I don't think I've ever discovered another player from Chicago.

10:44 pm

heya kit, I'm in Chicago, Howie was in Chicago, Yvo was in a very close suburb of Chicago, as is Mamabear.

10:44 pm

Really? I just imagine everyone so far away I guess. I'm by Wrigley. Where are you?

10:45 pm

kit =

10:46 pm

Damn flat keyboard - easier than the raised keys on my old desktop, but I keep hitting enter when I don't mean to. I'm right down the road from you in Bucktown.

10:47 pm

Well, nice to meet you and to know that people aren't just in New Zealand, they're also close by.

10:48 pm

I have some vague recollection of Is1, I think she took her dogs to the dog park in Forest Park.

10:48 pm

I don't think I've ever noticed her pop up in chat

10:48 pm

LOL - not just in NZ, funny! Nice to meet you also, neighbor.

10:49 pm

She's been in here in the past couple of weeks.

10:49 pm

She has twice as many career points as I have, so she has clearly spent a lot of time. :-0

10:50 pm

I haven't looked at those stats since I stopped the need to have to finish every grid.

10:51 pm

And you've been a member since 2007?

10:51 pm

Every once in a while I look and marvel at the folks who have 10 times the number I have!

10:52 pm

Yes, and I played for a while before I commited

10:52 pm

When did you fall into this hole?

10:52 pm

Yes, me too. I held out like probably 2-3 years.

10:53 pm

2006 for me - before Facebook.

10:53 pm

I love it and recommend it to people, but it's also ridiculous. I laugh at myself for the time I spend.

10:54 pm

I used to always say what great chat it was, the opportunity to meet & make friends all over the world.

10:55 pm

I agree. There are some really nice people on here and a few crazy scandals too!

10:57 pm

A friend of mine is going to be flat on her back for a few weeks and I recommended Babble to her. Really made me think anew about why I like it and why she should jump in.

10:57 pm

So kit, when I was in school, my boyfriend lived right on Addison, that first block west of Wrigley. When we were 'getting busy' and there was a ball game on, sometimes the timing was hysterical. Have you had this amazing experience?

10:58 pm

I can see the park from the high-rise I live in at the corner of Addison and LSD, but you really don't hear much all the way up here. I used to live on Elaine, and those were the days when I spent more time getting busy, but I don't remember funny overlaps. I applaud your experience!

10:59 pm

LOL - yep, so weird.

10:59 pm
