12:09 am

hello everyone :)

12:10 am

the first semester was rough. couple of parents unhappy with some changes i made in teaching. my self-confidence - well, i don't really HAVE much self-confidence to begin with, so this pushes it severely negative. but i'm also getting divorced and moving, which means i have to job hunt. i was updating my resume and just feeling like i totally suck and i don't know how i'm ever going to get through the next few months and i hate myself.

12:11 am

and don't tell me it doesn't make sense because i KNOW that and it doesn't help, i am still miserable with myself

12:20 am

a lot of upheaval hurshy, but I think what you are doing takes a lot of courage, so go girl

12:20 am

so how do you do stuff that takes courage when you haven't got any courage

Clues are up

12:21 am

you already are!

12:22 am

yeah but i'm gonna fall apart before i finish

12:22 am

Sorry hursh. It really sucks when one is feeling so low. You will get through it one day at a time.

12:22 am

one step, one hour, one day at a time. Do you have family or friends nearby for support?

12:23 am

right now i'm with my sister but i fly back home tomorrow, where i don't have anybody. that's why i'm moving, to be close to family again.

12:24 am

good idea hurshy

12:25 am

It is good you will be with people who care about you!

12:30 am

off to bed -- see you tomorrow maybe -- kids arriving, so may be too busy for a couple of days.

12:47 am

is the an9 related to the 7 & 8 or is it something else? something with the before prefix or the against prefix?

12:48 am

The Big Sn4 is still a favourite short cartoon of mine, all these years later. :)

12:52 am

I don’t think it’s related, hurshy. It has a prefix.

12:52 am

12:53 am

12:54 am

Sorry, no - against

Let's all pat ourselves on the back in a round of self-congratulation!

1:05 am

it's raining, yet again, where i am. SO much precipitation. SO many flood warnings.

The mutual admiration club

1:06 am

1:06 am

it really is a wondrous community here, agreed.

I hear ya, dc. I don't know how many years of the last ten we've had major floods, but it's more than four.

My phantom: Tennis. And spinneret

1:10 am

I tried spinneret too. Thanks for putting tennis on my retina as well :D

1:10 am

there's a stream behind the house here. Happily, high as it's gotten, it's not topped the valley it's in.

1:11 am

hi everyone.... yes sam we are a stalwart bunch and i like us..every one.....

1:11 am

spinnet is a type of piano. Hmph.

1:11 am

2:25 am

In 7 - in + the state of a verb ie. past, present or future.

2:25 am

Hi peach. Hope you’re well.

2:26 am

Thanks much, Liz. I'm OK, just hanging on. Hope all is well with you and yours.

2:28 am

Keep on hanging on peach 😊. Yes thanks. All’s good here.

2:40 am

Thanks, hon. The weather is horrible here.....a week of rain is scheduled....not really cold but it seems that the rain just seeps into ones' bones. LOL

2:42 am

Keep warm and dry if you can. Please send some of the rain here. We had a couple of storms last weekend but we need more rain.

2:47 am

Seems like it's either feast or famine, so to speak. I do hope you will have some rain soon.

2:47 am

Thanks. I hope you have less than is forecast.

2:52 am

Perhaps the new year will bring us just what we need. I guess I'm the cock eyed optimist. LOL

2:52 am

Optimism is the best way to feel. Time for me to go.

2:53 am

Happy new year, if I don’t see you before.

2:54 am

And to you also.

3:21 am

May I please have a clue for te6-18 the 2nd? Thanks

3:39 am

DEf : A narrow fillet or headband for the hair.

3:40 am

No that is the third one the second one is a person who pays money to stay in a property.

8:23 am

s-n-o-w: 4-letter word... :(

8:27 am

Name that proper noun: Where all the tallest mountains are.

8:28 am

Or, where all the best sherpas can be found.

8:30 am

Tibet

8:30 am

I was looking for Nepal

8:33 am

Ding! Ding! Ding! Bea wins a fully loaded yak.

8:40 am

" if we're talking sheer height here, base to summit, then the tallest mountain is Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii."

8:40 am

but you're right about the "range"

8:41 am

I thought it had recently been revised to K2. But, that could be just the one that's completely above sea level.

8:42 am

And is Mauna Kea considered a mountain or a volcano (or both?)

8:42 am

I'll go ask the famous seer: krishnagoogle

8:42 am

LOL. Please do!

8:44 am

Poor Everest is probably now suffering ED.

8:45 am

FIVE taller: K2 (ding, ding), Mauna Kea (yes, it counts as a mountain) Chimborazo in Ecuador, Olympus Mons, on Mars

8:46 am

Mars doesn't count - separate planet.

8:46 am

any sherpas on Mars?

8:46 am

good morning all - melting here

8:47 am

Melting? Melting what? Snow?

8:47 am

I take it you're talking about base to top, rather than elevation? As Mauna Kea is only 4207m

8:47 am

yes

8:47 am

and something about the Marianas Trench, which if you put any one of those mountains in their peak would not reach the surface. Ha. I'll take the volcano and Ecuador, but the last two, uhn uh

8:48 am

13,678 ft.

8:49 am

Yes, jwr. I do recall reading (Nat Geo) that the Trench was deeper compared to anything rising above sea level. As long as we are taking a "deep dive" into this topic.

8:50 am

Oh, I'm sticking with Everest.

8:50 am

K2 is 28.651

8:50 am

I don't think anyone has gotten to the bottom of the Trench, though. Possibly via robotic sub, but not sure.

8:51 am

clue for the in 10 please?

8:51 am

You don't go to bad science fiction movies, do you?

8:51 am

In this country ne4/4 also means a headland and our local one is called just the ne4/4

9:02 am

it's not a whole, though. It's just a tail.

9:04 am

ah, I know jaxx, but when it does this "essence of" bit, I can't help thinking of it as a suffix

loved salisbury -- stayed in an apartment hotel not far from the cathedral

9:21 am

It is a lovely city. Was quiet until recently, now it keeps being mentioned on the news. Jill, my sister, lives in sheltered housing about 5 minutes from the centre and considers the Cathedral her parish church.

9:22 am

Some idiot took a hammer to the copy of the Magna Carta that hangs in there.

9:24 am

there was a path through the wetlands behind the cathedral that led to a great restaurant that was housed in an old mill . We ate there a couple of times as it was a nice evening stroll from our apartment.

9:25 am

probably the same idiot that took a hammer to la pieta's toes

9:25 am

Next time I visit I will have to find it. Jill loves the New Forest which isn't that far away.

9:26 am

Someone let Trini Lopez out of the nuthouse

9:27 am

I don't understand these people at all. They must have no sense of history or heritage. Could be they just want to draw attention to themselves.

9:27 am

The path through the water meadow is the vantage point from which Constable painted the cathedral

9:30 am

I shall ask my sister about it when next I e-mail her. we have a link with the cathedral as a relative worked at the Cathedral centuries ago as a housekeeper at the Deanery which is still there.

does anyone have an otterbox protector for their iphone?

Ps are plotzed

otterbox??? (don't have an iphone)

yes, otterbox is the brand. it's highly rated.

is it software or some kind of rubber bumber?

7:33 pm

Just got the new Pixel 3 phone. I did not even know that Google made cell phones.I Finally gave up the Galaxy S3.

gwen, it's a cse for the phone , it's protection. i need info from someone who used the otterbox product.

this grid is such a pretzel i keep missing plurals

that pixel looks sharp

ahhh.

no takers. night, all

7:35 pm

sorry owl... cheap motorola phone user here

7:36 pm

Went to Walmart to get my screen protector and case for my Pixel 3 and they didn't have it. Hopefully, I can get it on Amazon. I do not think Google phones are popular yet

do you like it?

the camera looks rad

7:37 pm

I thought Motorola no longer made cell phones. I used to have a very old Motorola flip phone. Miss the flip phones.

7:38 pm

I have the Moto E 4, running Android 7.1.1, got it unlocked for $125

7:39 pm

The camera doesn't measure up to the iPhone but I'm putting a kid thru college

7:39 pm

I like it ok. It does not have some of the same features as the Samsung which I miss. Kept my phone for 6 years. I'm hoping to keep this Google Pixel 3 for at least six years.

7:39 pm

OWl, what info do you need? We use Otterboxes at work for Android phones

7:40 pm

It's hard to change phones I find

i am confused whtn they say they have screen protection, yet otterbox sells tempered glass protectors. what exctly is the screen protection in the defender series?

7:41 pm

What does that mean, U got it unlocked?Should've gotten that one. I am not putting a kid through college, but I am paying $3,600 a month in alimony plus bills and my rent.

7:42 pm

Owie!!

7:42 pm

unlocked means I can use it with any carrier

7:42 pm

Time to go make some Pierogies for dinner. Be right back

7:43 pm

bon appetit!

oh min. it's good to see you. later

monkeyed the 9, hooray

7:45 pm

The otterbox we use at work is a platic coever rather than tempered glass. Not sure which model it is, but the plastic screen protectors work fine. I work for a Security Company and we abuse the phones...as in throw them at walls, run over them with cars, etc and the Otterbox case works about as well as the Lifecase for less money.

ty. my battery swelled and i just paid for a new phone. i would like to keep it unscratched since it is an older model with the jack

good night

dos

here to clue for the next few

nighty nighty little bite

our middle school used Otterboxes for student iPads. which is to say, Otterboxes are middle-schooler-proof.

9:25 pm

hey all, down to 48

9:28 pm

Hi there melonheadjujube & stidmama! Merry Christmas!

9:29 pm

Hello Min! How's life in the frozen north?

9:31 pm

Actually not so frozen anymore. It was in the 50's today.

9:31 pm

wow -- springlike! It's been warm here, too -- I heard springtime singing from some of the smaller birds the other day.

9:33 pm

How was your Christmas with your family? Did you host or did U go somewhere?I went to Vermont to see my family.

9:33 pm

Not so springlike there. It was in the 20s with lots of snow

9:33 pm

We don't do Christmas, but we had a very fine quiet day at home. I am glad you got home to see the family!

9:34 pm

Sorry stidmama. Should not assume everyone celebrates.

9:36 pm

That's okay, Min -- I teach third graders! We have many different customs in the classroom, and I am careful to make our room and lessons welcoming to all. :-) Anything that encourages people to be kind is always okay!

9:37 pm

Oh yes,I do the same with my students as well stidmama.

9:41 pm

We just got the smoked meats back from our pig last weekend, and had a lovely ham on Tuesday... and Tom made fresh applesauce from apples he gleaned off a friend's orchard in Eastern Washington... I am feeling well fed! LOL

9:50 pm

My parents also made homemade applesauce, but I didn't have any. Do not know where they got their apples from.

9:50 pm

My dad started an his own apple orchard a few years ago.

9:51 pm

That's nice! What types does he grow? There is a large crab apple used as a pollinator in some Washington orchards (Wickson Crab) that is divine...

9:52 pm

FW finally/

9:52 pm

YAY PEACH!!!!!!

9:52 pm

Congratulations gapeach on your fireworks! Hooray for U!

Do not know specifically what apples he grew, but I know he grew 20 different kinds of apples. I did not even know there are 20 kinds of apples. My favorite is Granny Smith

Those are a lovely, tart apple -- I prefer Grannies and Mackintosh apples over "Delicious" varieties... my current favorites are probably York apples. They dry nicely with a bit of a tang in the sweetness.
