Hee hee granny! I actually saw words, but my iPad was not responding.

12:14 am

I am stopping with 70 words and 662 points.Goodnight to all

12:14 am

12:14 am

Good night, Min. Take care of yourself!

12:20 am

I guess I should go to bed also. I’m yawning so much I can’t see straight.

12:20 am

see?? i told you it was all in the eyes....

12:21 am

sweet dreams dear nef.

Clues are up

12:51 am

Thanks, Lickety

1:02 am

*groan* our PM has announced another 4 weeks at least of this level of restrictions.

1:03 am

how are all our babble buddies doing? wherever they are? lizgirl? are you and yours safe?

1:05 am

hi rose - we are in lockdown until end April at least - no leaving your own property at all unless for food or medical reasons - all bars, restuarants and unessential shops closed - not even allowed to go for a walk

1:06 am

on a lighter note.... some bloke who, in the midst of all that panic buying, has had no luck trying to sell toilet paper etc on ebay. in fact he was closed down. he actually had the gall to ask the supermarket for a refund on all the stock he bought up. his request was refused. don't you just love it when karma kicks in??

1:07 am

hi urshy. at least we are allowed out to exercise. but the density of our population is so much less than yours.

1:08 am

absolutely - my g/daughter wrote a poem about lockdown and one of the lines says "you buy in bulk and leave others to sulk"

1:08 am

There were two brothers in the US that did that with hand sanitizer. Amazon shut their store down.

1:09 am

hey ya jessmom. good on amazon. nice to see that they can do the right thing when called on.

1:11 am

meanwhile back at the ranch, i have had to buy my shampoo and conditioner on-line. specially medicated and usually can only buy from hair salon supplier. i haven't seen it in any pharmacy outlet.

1:12 am

I know! The markup was ridiculous.

1:19 am

the funny thing here is liquor stores are closed and no cigarettes are allowed to be sold - there have been quite a few smash and loot incidents on liquor stores and one worries about the time when lack of food causes the same issues

1:20 am

the issue with the alcohol sales is that when drinking social distancing goes out the window especially in overcrowded areas - so one rule for everybody

1:24 am

yeah, see your point urshy. here we can still buy alcohol, cigarettes etc provided they are within the boundaries of a supermarket. we can even use drive-through bottle shops. at least our government has seen the logic of things needed to help one get through this social distancing thing. it has even been suggested that buying toys, jigsaws, books are all okay as they are forms or entertainment.

1:25 am

*of* entertainment

1:32 am

okay. waited for sprite, still no show. * HUGE HUGGLES* for sprite if/when she comes in. xox everyone. please, stay safe.

6:17 am

The pi7's are cute. They look similar, but are very different things.

6:45 am

good morning.

7:00 am

Right now Iam looking at snow flakes on April 16

7:00 am

Frost here, bichon.

Molly, do the PIs begin with a farmyard animal?

7:03 am

... Had the flurries yesterday ... it's -5 this morning ...

7:09 am

Matty, one is the Polish dumpling. Still looking for the other...

7:10 am

pi4/5 ... subatomic particle

Sorry, I'm looking for the PI7 ;)

Found the dumpling by googling it - I've never heard of it!

7:13 am

The other pi7 is a cajun canoe. Neither start with the oinker

Again Google came to my rescue. Thanks Bea!

Dammit, I still have 0s for two of the As and the E. I hate vowel words.

7:23 am

One of the A words had me stumped for a while. And it is a normal word. I just cannot seem to read up and to the left.

7:24 am

I just found that one too, Molly. Took me a bit.

7:25 am

... ap ... worn in the kitchen

I shall look up and to the left (I see one of my bookshelves with a stuffed Bilby on the top.) I have that one, Dose!

It's the only A I have, the pinny for the kitchen ;)

7:26 am

ar5.10, matty

7:26 am

... ar ... place to play hockey

Aaaah - I did not have that one. Thank you!

7:26 am

and am4.6

7:27 am

yes ... everyone should have a nurse

7:27 am

The e is en5.12

7:27 am

... and ar4/5 ... curved line and a vowel

Aaaah - the As annhilated!

7:28 am

Matty, what is that thing in your profile picture? The picture is huge.

It's me, but I have no idea how it got so huge! I'll see if I can change it. I tried to change it to something entirely different but struggled.

7:30 am

I think it is an old teddy bear

Oh! Yeah, that's what it was - it had told me the upload had failed and it wasn't showing up for me. I've changed it again; tell me what you see (I suppose the inevitable refresh is in order)

i'm still seeing me.

7:34 am

I see your teddy

Weird. I suppose it'll catch up eventually. That teddy I've had since I was 10 - I still sleep with a teddy (true story) but I had to retire poor Holly (aka Battered Bear) as he's beyond even surgery now

Found that E, BTW :)

7:38 am

It is smaller now. You have to do a hard refresh (CNTRL + F5 on a PC, don't know the MAC equivalent) to make a new picture show up.

7:39 am

And you will get a red box in MY ACCOUNT every time you upload a new picture. You have to do a hard refresh then too, and when you come back to the puzzle.

7:39 am

pi 7/40, pls

Both pi7 are clued below.

Raisins and peanuts in the grid today...

7:43 am

I had a more difficult time with the third. Stupid foreign currency.

7:44 am

Bea loves that trail mix word

7:44 am

I always see that one for some reason.

7:44 am

I love trail mix.

7:46 am

I like trail mix, but it has to have more than raisins and peanuts in it to keep me interested.

7:46 am

I also love parm. Which isn't a word even though it is always on my grocery list.

7:47 am

Me too, Molly. I don't like raisins.

7:48 am

I made a killer mix in the fall. It cost a fortune to make though.

Thanks for all the clues. I need the lone E from the middle column, any clues floating about?

Thanks Bzz. Don't know that word.

Ahh. Just looked it up. Who knew??

7:53 am

Oh, I thought it was another gorp thing like pecans, apples, raisins and macadamia nuts

Now I have NBT and NBS. Still early on though.

7:54 am

8:22 am

They have been snatching a lot of money lately, Molly.

8:22 am

I swear I'm going to start wearing a shirt to Whole Foods that says NO I AM NOT PRIME

8:22 am

It took 2 days to finish meal planning and making the shopping trip

8:22 am

Oh my God, I could never meal plan that far in advance

8:23 am

that is incredible to me vash wow

8:23 am

Yeah, both our daughter's have taken the meal plan and run with some version of it for their households

8:24 am

When I had the girls at home, I could plan two weeks at a time, but sometimes that was a struggle.

8:24 am

i guess it's good that it keeps you away from the stores.. but i have to ask how giant was that bill for that day?

8:25 am

$1200

8:25 am

The giant bill is my problem. There is no way I could load up on that much food at once.

8:25 am

8:29 am

8:29 am

8:30 am

I think everyone has been drinking more.

8:39 am

I love carbonara. That is one of my favorite pasta dishes.

8:39 am

Has anyone else heard when the speculation is that your area will "reach it's peak" with this thing? I just read that my area is supposed to be doing that in the next few days.

8:58 am

I think we are towards the end of the month. Kansas is in mid-May, I think.

8:58 am

... hear all kinds of things ... it depends upon how much you trust the numbers ... ...

8:58 am

I wonder how long after the peak before the stay at home is lifted.

8:59 am

And whom to believe...

8:59 am

Well, I believe very little of what I hear. Just curious what is being said.

9:00 am

One thing is for sure. The numbers are all wrong due to the lack of available testing.

9:00 am

we supposedly hit our peak last week my county has only 34 cases and two deaths so far

9:00 am

... Ontario's numbers are much lower than the north eastern states ... ... but we're out until at least May 11 ... ...

9:01 am

... expectation is if you go back to soon the two people who are still asymptomatic will spread it all around again and you're back in the position you're in today

9:01 am

Ru, how many people in your county?

9:02 am

good question.. likely 800,000 or so

9:02 am

maybe less.. it kind of includes american canyon which isn't really napa valley

9:03 am

Is it Napa county? I just read 137,744

9:04 am

yeah.. in Napa Proper probably 150K .. but the adjunct areas are loaded with people

9:04 am

I just try to compare the number of people to the number of cases/deaths. You can't look at one without the other.

9:04 am

like kelseyville, American Canyon, Vallejo, Mare Island

9:05 am

and 80 K of that 137 live in Napa CIty proper

9:06 am

hello. around here (Massachusetts) the number of cases does not seem directly proportional to the size of the town. A bigger town near me has less case than my tiny town does

Into a vat of caviar. Bwa ha ha ha!

if you're a Firefly fan, goram is an expletive. if you've never seen Firefly, run don't walk.

9:46 am

We love that show. Seen it twice

I asked on FB the other day, I'll ask here - for those of you who have see both, which is a better space western - Firefly or the Mandalorian (I have my view, but I'll hold off for a moment) :)

my vote is Firefly

9:47 am

morning all

9:47 am

Haven't seen either one.

9:47 am

I'm so lost in the tv/movie realm...

sup moo!

9:47 am

isn't a mandalorian a car made for Nelson Mandala?

9:47 am

I've only watched the Mandalorian and it was okay, but not excellent

Har har har! ;)

But Baby Yoda (the Child) is very cute, gotta say

I liked the mandalorian a lot too, but firefly is just awesome.

Anyone care to guess which one I find shiniest? ;)

9:48 am

my favorite character was actually the bounty hunter droid

9:48 am

boats are n excuse to throw money away

9:48 am

There are space westerns?

Oh yeah ;)

9:49 am

Firefly definitely

9:49 am

What is Firefly on?

I knew you were going to say firefly, matty. I think we're similar in a lot of things. :D

Both are good but...Firefly rocks. Judi, it isn't

9:50 am

I imagine some sort of bioluminescent steroid

It's from a bunch of years ago - I have it on DVD, I think Hulu has it in the US, someone told me

you can stream on hulu

9:50 am

Carla, I ordered silicone egg bite molds for my IP. They arrived yesterday...Going to make brownie bites in them tomorrow.

It's created and written by Joss Wheedon, who did Buffy. There are only 13 episodes and a movie

9:50 am

just getting into the second series of altered carbon myself

yum, bea.

9:50 am

Boo. I only have Netflix and CBS All Access.

9:51 am

Firefly is one of the best series ever

I ready the book of Altered Carbon but I've only seen the first episode of the first season of the series - it's not really my partner's thing so I've not got back into it

9:51 am

i don't watch much on tv.. doesn't hold my interest

I may try altered carbon. kinda out of things right now. my husband and I just started watching the old Magnum PI on Prime.

9:52 am

yeah, it's difficult to get into, one really enjoyed it once it got going

9:52 am

I dont even have TV

atalante, you are correct. one of the best ever. a shame that fox executives were so stupid.

The Mandalorian is good. But Firefly is better.

I saw one ep of Black Mirror a few years ago and it was the most depressing thing ever.

I do like Black Mirror. Again, Jeff (my OH) isn't so keen

well they needed to make way for 911 and empire

9:53 am

good morning everyone - crashed before the flip last night :)

9:53 am

I've watched a bunch of black mirror, but it's hit and miss for me

9:53 am

the characters were brilliant, the actors were perfect, its funny and ridiculous and sad. Morena Baccarin deserved an Oscar. But so did Nathan F and Alan Tudyk

9:53 am

I was literally considering rewatching Black Mirror last night

as well as the medical show that is the worst ever. how can you screw up a medical drama?

9:54 am

And, I agree, episodes are very hit and miss! :)

9:54 am

And, good morning, all!

9:54 am

*Waits for the Dr. Who discussion to begin

wow time flies. up warly for walmat then morning walk and cleaniing the car. time for lunch.

Firefly was back in '02ish. Fox ran the episodes out of order and it could never get a following. but as ata said, brilliant characters. perfect casting, great writing.

9:55 am

Dr Who. Perfect.

ata, is the actor who plays prince phillip in the crown a former dr, who?

9:56 am

has anyone else seen David Tennant in Jessica Jones?

9:56 am

yes TO, Matt Smith

9:56 am

I'm off to the store and the pharmacy...JOY!

9:56 am

Salut, ya'll.

9:56 am

stay safe bzz

9:56 am

I've been binge watching Grace & Frankie on Netflix. Every episode cracks me up.

did he bow his head and look up at everyone in that series, too? I cannot stand it

I have seen a few Dr. Who, but my problem is this - I like to start shows from the beginning, and that's just not possible with Dr. Who.

bye, bea

9:57 am

but there's 13 beginnings, so just pick one!

9:57 am

I love Grace and Frankie. Have no idea about the other shows mentioned here

;D

9:57 am

hi all

matty, are there still new Midsomer Murders over there? I watched all like 23 seasons or whatev on Netflix and there hasn't been any new in a while.

9:58 am

Matt Smith definitely has some annoying facial expressions!

9:58 am

Was thinking about watching the show about the Tiger guy. Then I read about the murder-for-hire, etc. Now I'm not so sure.

i liked tha swedish seris on PBS but cannot remember the name. mysery/crime series.

9:58 am

Wallander?

well it certainly has buzz.

Oh god, Carla, I have no idea. You'd think everyone would be dead in Midsomer by now, what with that homicide rate

no, i 've senen wallaner, but i think there's another

Can you imagine if Miss Marple, Jessica Fletcher, Mark Sloan and Quincy were to visit Midsomer? It would be a blood bath

:D matty

10:00 am

I really liked Wallender.

10:00 am

I knew the tiger story from true crime podcasts, so I wasn't really wanting to watch. My husband started the first episode and then when it was over he said, okay, I'm good.

10:00 am

what true crime podcasts would you recommend? theres so many!

how about the detectortists?

10:00 am

There are no new Midsomer Murders. Only remakes of them done with different actors.

10:00 am

I know, matty! that's what always cracked me up about that show. so many murders.

10:00 am

And such a tiny village

10:01 am

Have you ever seen Hot Fuzz (the movie)?

10:01 am

I watch Oak Island.

liket the newer forsyte saga. it was run as a marathon on sunday last, but i cannot waste a whole day in front of tv.

10:01 am

Hot Fuzz was the spitting image of the village I grew up in

10:01 am

huge fan of the whole cornetto trilogy

10:01 am

I'm missing a Z - I have two 4s and a five - what am I missing

10:02 am

Of course you are, Carla - we are the same person separated by an ocean ;)

10:02 am

a 4

10:02 am

:D

there are 3 fours. did you get the sandal?

sorry, you did not ask for a clue.

10:03 am

I...do not have any items of footwear...tell me more? (it's true. I have no shoes on right now)

go up

10:03 am

is the sandal a brand name?

10:03 am

I haven't even looked for a word since getting here this morning :D. fun chat day. I did play in the middle of the night and have 60 left.

i have the urge to wash floors againl i eill never be the same after this.

10:04 am

OK, I did not know that was a word for a sandal. I'd say I learn something every day, but there's every chance I shall instantly forget it ;)

must go be productive.

10:05 am

It's a Japanese flip flop, apparently

10:05 am

are we still talking z words? I only have nothing

10:06 am

There's nothing, an area, someone who makes the area and the aforementioned flip flop

carla, they're all normal words.

in common usage

bbl

10:06 am

ok, thx. just need the flip flop now. I'm sure it'll come to me. is it 4 or 5?

10:07 am

10:07 am

Clue for Pi6/21, please?

sounds like an apoglogy, nan

pi 6 is a fish

10:07 am

NM. Smack me with that toothy fish.

10:07 am

ok, got it. I wouldn't say that's in common usage in my neck of the woods.

10:08 am

I thought, for some weird reason, that toothy fish had an H in it. Silly me

10:08 am

The sandal sounds like Aaron Spelling's daughter

10:08 am

we had that the other day spelled that way too

10:08 am

this is babble. duh :)

10:08 am

not any fish I know -- stats for the sandal please?

10:08 am

and I kept looking at the wrong p, saying this doesn't make sense

10:09 am

Matty, the toothy fish DOES have an H in it

10:09 am

zo4/9

10:09 am

Yeah Nan, you know this fish. It clears animals to the bone

10:10 am

found the misspelled fish

10:10 am

you can get them from Amazon Nan :D

10:10 am

seems like there was a horror movie about this fish back in the 80s maybe. trying to capitalize on Jaws.

10:10 am

yes --- lol - saw all the clues after I found it -- too busy looking

10:11 am

The sandal/flip flop sounds like a bedtime st5. Once upon a time...

10:12 am

10:12 am

Well then so is the misspelled swordsman, zoro

THERE it is - thank you vicuna! nbt at long last

10:22 am

oh, must've spelled it wrong then, because I tried that

10:22 am

Yes Nan, the clue I gave before that said it rhymes with a bedtime st5. Once upon a time...

10:22 am

maybe I shoulda gone with polish potato pasta...for the aliteration

10:22 am

sorry - didn't mean it that way -- it's been 40 years since I've had any little kids around and I'm not current on their movies or their books

10:23 am

10:23 am

sorry molly - missed your clue

10:23 am

yeah I know the character but just changing first letter doest work

10:24 am

yeah, so you might have to change another letter that makes the same sound

10:24 am

type everything in that general area that rhymes with it.

10:24 am

oh dear God

10:24 am

is the bar open yet?

10:24 am

i have the pi7 that sounds like the potato dish, what is a clue for the other pi7 please?

10:24 am

google cajun canoe

10:24 am

got the zo4

10:25 am

doesn't usually work when there's not a Y on the board. Hmmm what letter sounds like a Y ....

10:25 am

i went the wrong direction with it

10:25 am

we will now sing the doxology! welldone!

10:25 am

The bar is so open. Doubles all around.

10:25 am

one pi7 sounds like the potato dish, and the other pi7 is the potato dish

10:25 am

we have a flat bottomed canoe in PQ, but it is called a Gaspe canoe

10:26 am

is that named after a person?

10:26 am

That is because Canadian French and Cajun French are two different animals.

10:26 am

how very complicated

10:26 am

or you gaspe when it tips over and you fall in the cold canadian waters?

10:27 am

ah -- found the boat -- knew I had seen the word before, but was dancing all around it (not in the water)

10:27 am

there's lots of nice fantasy characters in the grid today. Thror, Theon ...

10:27 am

do they both end in e?

10:28 am

named after the Gaspe Peninsula, where it is mostly used, Carla

10:28 am

if only bea were here to guess my missing g...

10:29 am

go4/7?

10:29 am

i have 6 missing g words

10:30 am

golly gee

10:30 am

trail mix? no, have that

10:30 am

then all others are normal and you get no clues :P

10:30 am

oh wait. apart from a gi5

10:30 am

:D, thx anyway

10:31 am

I have a gi5

10:31 am

got it

10:31 am

oh wait. LOL I'm still missing one too. great ....

10:31 am

a party-____

10:31 am

probably easiest one

10:31 am

hurray!

10:31 am

i am missing 5 now

10:32 am

do you have the go6? it was clued when I got here.

10:32 am

aha, no I haven't

10:32 am

last 2 col gray!!

10:32 am

well one isn't the gecko lol

10:32 am

no go6

10:32 am

heh

10:33 am

is the e something I'm going to be mad about?

10:33 am

know, but it may feel daunting ;)

10:33 am

hugely, yep

10:33 am

EN

10:33 am

en5 /12

10:33 am

lol ata

10:34 am

thanks, I always miss that one. just weird to see that version.

10:34 am

apparently it stems from a word that meant tiny...but over time it flipped

10:34 am

hmm, like literally is doing now

10:35 am

yeah, nothing like using literally in a figurative sense

10:36 am

stats for the bottom a please?

10:36 am

I don't see that etymology - it comes from Latin for huge or abnormal, originally meant abnormal in English. Nothing about smallness anywhere.

10:36 am

ar5/10

10:36 am

... ar 5/10

10:36 am

Oooh, I don't have a gi5 - looking now

10:37 am

add a letter to a 4 and you've got it

10:37 am

Thermal

10:38 am

2 to go ...

10:38 am

still 33 left here!

10:38 am

I am misinformed then Vicuna, my apologies....never trust a lexicographer without verifying I guess

10:38 am

yesterday's grid was easy to me, this one is a struggle.

10:38 am

ty

10:39 am

yes, I actually finished yesterday's

10:39 am

Well, moolingwa, it's possible there's something there, I'd just be curious to see it!

10:39 am

27 left here

10:39 am

1 to go! I believe its a G6 :)

10:39 am

You're right, I do now have it! Last two columns greyed out (33 words left to find though)

10:40 am

LOL, we are both at 33 left and have last 2 col done

10:40 am

those must be some weird t's and c's

10:41 am

We truly are one and the same :)

10:41 am

Yes! I only have 10 Ts. All but one of the Cs though

10:41 am

just found 2 c's though, so now I'm at 31

10:41 am

if there is a g 6 I too am missing it

10:41 am

17 T's and 13 Cs

10:41 am

I have 15 t's

10:41 am

completed that is

10:41 am

Go6. Ends in chicken

10:42 am

nan, ends with not a rooster

10:42 am

Ends in not off.

10:42 am

ty ty firebirds!

10:42 am

most of the t's I've found are either common, or commonly appear in babble

10:42 am

Flip that was for the g5. sorry. shutting up.

10:43 am

ty - bridge master with an extra letter

10:43 am

now up to 17 t's

10:43 am

almost caught me hoke...18 here now

10:43 am

Still only 11 of those darned Ts

10:44 am

I will never catch you, moo! you know too many words.

10:44 am

you often past me hoke, don't sell yourself short

10:45 am

Well, you guys are way ahead of me in the T department ;)

10:45 am

12 now

10:45 am

well, theoric isn't a word

10:45 am

seems like it could be

10:45 am

13

10:45 am

Well I am done. Toodle pips and good bye!

10:46 am

Bye Zoom

10:46 am

well done, zooz

10:46 am

grats, zoom

10:46 am

Laters!

10:47 am

The US president's eldest daughter and her husband, Trump adviser Jared Kushner, and children travelled to the Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey last week to celebrate Passover. Lockdown orders issued by the mayor of Washington DC, where Ivanka Trump lives, ordered residents on 1 April to only leave the home for "essential" travel.

10:47 am

moving on to the h - still need 3 there. now I will see some t's.

10:47 am

I am not surprised by anything they do. rules don't apply to them.

10:49 am

too bad security requirements include open holes ahead and behind them --- they might have caught something otherwise

10:50 am

I wonder if anyone was out sanitizing the flag poles ahead of them?

10:50 am

well it doesn't say they actually played golf

10:50 am

they probably have a house there

10:51 am

After her travel was first reported by the New York Times on Thursday, the White House attempted to justify her decision. The travel was to "a closed-down facility considered to be a family home" and the "travel was no different than had she been traveling to/from work," said the statement provided to US media. "The location was less populated than the surrounding area near her home" in DC, the statement continued, adding: "Her travel was not commercial. She chose to spend a holiday in private with her family."

10:51 am

yes, well apparentlly Trump makes his own rules and to hell with everyone else

10:51 am

At least here in the UK, travel to second homes (or golf clubs as if they were second homes) does not count as essential travel. I have a feeling it doesn't in the US either

10:51 am

we have a super snooty golf club here that trump bought a few years ago. I hated playing them in tennis and calling it Trump National and it was even imprinted on the balls.

10:52 am

At least here, you're not meant to even see family members if they don't live in the same household

10:52 am

doesn't here either -- we are being told to stay home other than for essential errands --- however, the golf clubs are open --- still haven't figured out what it is that is essential about golf,

10:53 am

People are traveling to vacation homes (or cottages if they are in Canada) all over the world. I have read several comments here about vacation homes filling up during all this.

10:53 am

yeah, they consider it essential exercise (heavy eye roll). meanwhile they have closed the parking lots of mt. bike trails, which is actual exercise.

10:54 am

Golf clubs are closed here. And people have been turned back by police when trying to travel to second homes

10:55 am

my friend has been at her beach house since schools were closed, so back in late Feb or early Mar. her husband has been traveling back & forth, but he's working from home and only stays in the houses. one of the beach neighbors came and complained that he was putting them all in danger. he wasn't even leaving the beach house.

10:55 am

I think they should be here too - we even have a club membership, but are staying home.

10:55 am

in Maine, you can't rent a vacation type place right now.....it's against the governor's orders....but if you own a vacation home, you can come and must self isolate for 2 weeks and still stay at home....and that does NOT include going out to golf (though you can do that in other places like Arizona, I think)....

10:56 am

my husband is dropping his membership here - it's too crowded to ever get a tee time

10:56 am

1 h left!

10:57 am

I am pretty sure my boss has been to his lake house several weekends during all this.

10:57 am

I actually don't have a problem with that if it's your house and you're staying inside it.

10:58 am

really stuck on those m's -- only have 4 so far and only 7 t's

10:58 am

I just need 2 m's. this grid is a pain.

10:58 am

I understand the neighbors angst. It's tough when you are doing everything asked and others aren't. It's unfair to the health care workers who may have to treat them. It's unfair to the general public to set the timeline back for their inconsideration.

10:59 am

if the bridge to the Outer Banks stays closed another 8 days, we get our money back....if it reopens during our week, we only get part of our money back....not happy....

10:59 am

yeah, that's a bad policy

11:00 am

we have been getting piecemeal refunds from our FL VRBO. the last one should come through soon, but their system is really backed up.

11:00 am

penquis, that's crap!

11:00 am

yes, crap....especially since we have rented with the same realtor for over 15 years....

11:00 am

I feel the same way carla -- I don't even think going out for a drive is a bad idea -- gives you something differnt to look at -- just don't get out of the car.

11:01 am

Jeff's golf club MAY offer extensions to membership to cover the shutdown. No-one really knows yet

11:01 am

i don't even remember when I last bought gas....

11:01 am

well, I paid for my gym this month but I told them I would have to reconsider for May.

11:02 am

... and don't get out of the car to buy gas ... and don't go to the McDonald's for a meal ...

11:02 am

We go for car rides a bit. We've talked about what we'd do if the car broke down and we would stay in it and have it towed.

11:02 am

I know, who needs gas! I drove my car to the farm stand yesterday and had almost forgotten how to drive. ;)

11:02 am

It's illegal to do that but these are different times.

11:02 am

i had prepaid for several tennis clinics but told the place (a non-profit place) to keep the money.....i would have spent it anyway....

11:02 am

The US is weird - it remind me when they used to have smoking section on aircraft - that some of it is shutdown and some isn't and sometimes the shutdown areas are right next to the open areas

11:03 am

well, I live in a county next to the county that the big city is in, but my county has been following them from the get-go

11:03 am

matty, it's frustrating. Some Americans feel their liberties are more important than others.

11:04 am

my local tire company came and got my car (left the keys on the seat) and took my snow tires off....they returned the car and then wiped down all the surfaces....i thought it was nice to do that for no extra charge....

11:04 am

The key thing to remember about the US is that it's a federation of states, which may seem a bit lost in time, but was the reason why it became a single country versus a bunch of separate entities

11:04 am

and that was evident before all this, gramma!

11:05 am

states that are less united than they used to be :D

11:05 am

researchers are saying now that they think people are most contagious before they display any symptoms -- that's enough to keep me at home.

11:05 am

Our local tire place has closed because the owner came down with the virus.

11:05 am

hokie, too true.

11:06 am

I go out and walk each day, but keep at least 15 feet between me and anyone. Also wear a mask

11:06 am

See you all tomorrow. Be safe.

11:06 am

good practice, mool --- bye gramma and back at you

11:06 am

masks are required here if you go out anywhere....

11:06 am

one of our cars is due for inspection/reg. renewal this month and I hadn't seen anything about that. finally got an email from the DMV yesterday basically saying you still have to do it, but if you're high risk, stay home and the owner of the car doesn't have to take it in. stupid, IMO

11:06 am

bye gramma....

11:07 am

yeah, that's a bit dumb

11:08 am

... you must watch how the numbers are counted ... if they are only counting cases in the hospital or which go to the hospital for testing and confirmation then you can be like my town, Whitby, Ontario... 150,000 people and only one case ... ... of course the next next town, Oshawa, is the town where the hospital is located ... they've got 160,000 people and about 100 cases ...

11:08 am

that is stupid, hokie....

11:08 am

also, the DMVs are closed so you have to do it online, which I always do, but some people don't have internet or really know how to use it.

11:09 am

One of my friends probably had COVID, but the doctor told them to stay at home, unless they had difficulty breathing, in which case go to the hospital

11:09 am

wow, just completely guessed and got an ma5

11:09 am

yeah, I am not beyond guessing either hoke

11:10 am

one m to go

11:10 am

... there are two ma 5 ... an easy 12 and a 14 which must be guessed

11:10 am

FTR that was ma + garden tool

11:10 am

the challenge is there's no easy way to test everyone

11:10 am

yes, I have 1 m left too

11:10 am

not sure how many cases we have -- numbers are given by health region, not by towns. I think there are about 16 now at Byland's Nursery --- all mexican farm workers

11:11 am

my county's cases jumped a lot recently because there's a nursing home with like 45

11:11 am

yeah, we only have county level numbers, and they're at best an undercount of the true infection rate

11:11 am

here numbers are counted based on where your legal residence is....the first case in my county was removed from our count because it was someone who lived out of state....

11:12 am

... that's the case in Ontario ... over one half of the deaths are from nursing homes ...

11:12 am

yeah, we were wondering about that here. our friend lives in one county (about 5 min from us) but was tested in ours.

11:12 am

that seems a bit odd pen

11:12 am

ty for the ma 5.s

11:12 am

yes, we have three or four nursing homes in Maine that have had high numbers of cases....

11:12 am

UK lockdown officially extended for at least another three weeks - just announced

11:13 am

mool....it's the CDC rule here...not sure about other states....

11:13 am

... that takes you up to where each of the Canadian provinces are ...

11:13 am

oh, well bureaucracy often is illogical

11:13 am

our CDC director is fantastic....we are lucky to have him....

11:14 am

the saddest is when the nursing homes are just abandoned and then they find a bunch of bodies. police got a tip off about one nursing home in NJ where that was apparently the case.

11:14 am

this is a plot by trump and pence to reduce social security and medicare benefits

11:14 am

We have officially 300 cases in a population of around 385,000 in our country...

11:14 am

wut, had not heard that

11:14 am

... yeah ... that's what happened in Quebec

11:14 am

I'm not sure Trump and Pence have much the capability to plot anything

11:14 am

it's happened in spain and i think italy too

11:15 am

true mool..

11:15 am

Trump's attention span on anything other than something that he feels is a personal attack on him is short to say the least

11:15 am

that's true also

11:16 am

i saw a cartoon last night of him yelling at a pile of skeletons to thank him for the tremendous job he's doing

11:16 am

We only test, here, if you're actually in hospital. In theory, they're now testing health workers and will start testing care workers but in practice, that isn't happening.

11:16 am

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ If anyone is interested in the official UK numbers

11:16 am

DANG IT - so close to having "panorama" here

11:17 am

... ... also paragon and perigee

11:17 am

pierce, piece, apiece

11:17 am

and paranoia

11:17 am

... got lot's of that one

11:18 am

paranormal

11:18 am

paranoia is here a lot hurshy

11:18 am

There's been some progress in an antibody test which should make testing ability ramp up quickly, but it's not widespread yet

11:18 am

yes, found paranormat earlier

11:19 am

what is my missing o?

11:19 am

although if things are weird, wouldn't that be the paranorm

11:19 am

heading out to get some lunch....bbl to finish....bye all....

11:19 am

paner

11:19 am

oops

11:19 am

interesting the numbers are miles away from the orginal computer models.

11:19 am

probably the one I'm missing too hoke

11:19 am

... og 4/6 on 4/5 or 5/12

11:20 am

I have an arch. one and a time in the past

11:20 am

ok.. i'm off to go pack some vino up for a needy babble player :D

11:20 am

yeah, just found the one I was missing

11:20 am

ok, looking

11:20 am

I probably should go do something else for a while, come back later for the remaining 18

11:20 am

hi smurshy :)

11:21 am

Have a great day all

11:21 am

yeah, I just noticed it's after noon and I never had breakfast. TTFN. still 21 left, ugh.

11:21 am

hi ata, how are you? :)

11:22 am

Loki hurt his paw :( It was very sad and I had to carry him home from the beach and he refuses to eat treats for several hours! But he's getting better quickly, must have just caught it nastily or something

11:22 am

my sister's dog acts like that if a leaf gets stuck to his paw...

11:23 am

almost amaranth too btw...going now

11:24 am

loki's not much less wimpy :)

11:24 am

lol, still trying to leave as well. found the or at least

11:24 am

my dog stopped using a paw on one of our walks and I thought I was going to have to call someone to come get us. I pulled it up and looked and there was an acorn stuck in the webbing.

11:25 am

poor pup!

11:25 am

I took it out and then it was like nothing had ever happened

11:25 am

a 7! i got a 7!

11:26 am

nice!

11:26 am

how can someone be gormless if gorm isn't a word

11:26 am

ok, leaving now. do you want the 7 stats before I go? or try to find yourself?

11:27 am

hmmm, i guess not yet

11:27 am

ok, ttfn

11:28 am

which 7 dd you get?

11:28 am

cr7

11:29 am

theres a good few smaller words around that if you take certain letters out

11:29 am

well i got the co6 first, then i thought of the cr...

11:30 am

ah ok got cr 5/6

11:31 am

I got the 7 first and then the 6s :)

11:32 am

there's some co5s too

11:33 am

ahhh cool that's c done

11:33 am

:)

11:33 am

just don't ask me to clue the other 7s!

11:33 am

well, good thing I stuck my head back in while eating. did not have the 5s and one of the 6s. c's complete now!

11:33 am

cause you don't have them or cause they are very weird?

11:34 am

I had to google both. one I knew but couldn't get sp. right.

11:34 am

because they involve things that are potato dishes and things that sound like potato dishes and I totally didn't understand any clue like that!

11:34 am

potato dishes. ok.

11:35 am

more like potato dumplings I think

11:35 am

but they could be outer space sea creatures for all I know LOL. BUt I believe Vi

11:35 am

the other is a cajun canoe

11:35 am

Well for one thing, you can Google search cajun canoe.

11:36 am

cajun canoe is pi + devilish character

11:36 am

as if hurshy would need to google

11:36 am

or pi + one who goes off and is a law unto themselves

11:37 am

i would definitely need to google if cnan did not just clue so excellently

11:37 am

And you can Google search dough wrapped potatoes. Hursh was not the one who said she didn't understand the clues.

11:37 am

lmao

11:37 am

the potato thingy i got tho

11:38 am

I dont think we have them over here

11:38 am

if i KNOW of a word, i'm very good at spelling.

11:38 am

I think they are polish, no?

11:39 am

yes

11:39 am

isn't the potato dumpling a hungarian dish?

11:40 am

https://tinyurl.com/o4vv6kh

11:40 am

I think I've only ever seen an asian version of something like that

11:40 am

ok, I think I caught up to moo now with 17 left. BBL.

11:40 am

Polish. And very popular in many US Jewish communities.

11:41 am

my link is fun. you won't be sorry.

11:42 am

have you got the g6 yet?

11:42 am

no

11:42 am

Well pi7s are a long way from Clootie Dumplings

11:42 am

its a good babblet

11:43 am

we'd do a deep fried version here Im sure

11:44 am

i find this a hard grid

11:44 am

Oh we deep fry just about everything here. Including pickles and Twinkies.

11:44 am

christmas pudding? turkey breasts?

11:45 am

love the bacon-onion-potato ones

11:45 am

well america doesn't have christmas pudding in the british tradition

11:46 am

name that proper noun! the villain of the Book of Esther

11:46 am

I know a lot of people who are of British descent who make plum pudding at Christmas.

11:46 am

our local fish and chip shop made deep fried full christmas dinner this year :)

11:46 am

<---- googles Clootie Dumplings

11:46 am

Haman

11:46 am

i guess i just don't know classy people then

11:46 am

ding ding ding!

11:47 am

Add taschen and you have a good sweet

11:47 am

name that proper name - river dividing Devon and Cornwall

11:47 am

Tamar

11:47 am

Oh dear Hursh. These are not classy people at all. British is not synonymous with classy.

11:48 am

yay anotehr brit :)

11:48 am

or brit-ish :D

11:49 am

like, in theory i know that, but, i still can't help the association.

11:49 am

when i hear children with british accents, they sound so darn smart

11:49 am

We are in for some rough times. There are 22 million people unemployed in the US.

11:50 am

so many people told me I had the best accent when we were in Florida

11:51 am

but they tended to be employees of golden corral

11:51 am

*!*~*!* hagd and stay safe :)

11:52 am

lol atalante --- you are obviously not from Glasgow or Fife :)

11:52 am

I've still got a very very British accent. With the occasional Scots phrasing thrown in

11:53 am

ah -- thought you were scottish

11:53 am

nope, just lived here for 7 years. Really from the Cotswolds

11:53 am

see you are from Aberdeen --- seems to me the brogue is pretty thick there too

11:54 am

omg I can't understand the real Aberdonians

11:54 am

the Aberdeen / Doric accent is the thickest you'll find until you get to Shetland

11:55 am

so jealous

11:57 am

I couldn't understand my cousin's granddaughter when she spoke in the local dialect -- they live in Dunfermline

11:58 am

I could understand most people if they didn't speak a pure dialect or a mix of English and gaelic

11:58 am

look u people speaking Doric ...

11:59 am

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8txQM\nIxKIk

12:00 pm

on my way --- need to make two more masks for grandkids in Vancouver.

12:01 pm

phew. slogged through a bunch with the list to finish.

12:02 pm

yay hurshy! I did the same

12:18 pm

enjoyed your un-seaonal link brushy. hubby is a big fan.

12:21 pm

was hoping to shake some of these last 16 words loose but no such luck. going to the list!

6:55 pm

Hi all! I see one of my favorite Italian red wines in the grid... sadly not "found in dict"

7:02 pm

amarone?

7:06 pm

the very one. I knew you'd guess it ru

7:06 pm

If so ("Amarone") , it seems to have an upper case A, check Wikipedia

7:08 pm

interesting... since other wines (pinot) are accepted

7:08 pm

I have wine-y friends who've talked about it, mentioning Valpolicella (sp?) as still being upper-cased too.

7:08 pm

Maybe it's Northern Italian snobbery at work :-)

7:10 pm

merlot, etc. They're okay. I've run into them - or rather had them Babble-banned before. They must fall into a different category. - Maybe you've got it, Natasha!

7:11 pm

I guess if you can't buy it in a screwtop bottle, it's capped? :-)

7:12 pm

sorry, couldn't resist that one

7:16 pm

GOT IT! https://tinyurl.com/y5l44bjh

7:17 pm

That's for Ru too. There is a confusion ...

7:18 pm

LOL a great old Safire column, thanks!! Love "ukase by ukase basis'

7:18 pm

Hello, all. Back for the last 8 TH words.

7:19 pm

actually, 2 are TR words

7:19 pm

Another Safire fan! Good taste, Natasha (if it's me whut sez it).

7:20 pm

Wasn't a fan of his politics but did enjoy his columns very much.

7:21 pm

How are you feeling Phan?

7:23 pm

Pretty good actually. I walked up a big hill to my mailbox today, about a 3K step walk. Did well. I will probably return to work on Monday

7:25 pm

Every government needs a "loyal opposition," I think (something civil we don't have these days, unfortunately), especially a literate, thinking one. What got me about Safire was his being Chief-in-Charge of the Grammar Police.

7:27 pm

Literate and thinking have kinda gone out the window...

7:28 pm

Great to hear that Phan. And thanks for risking your health to take care of the elders who need you.

7:28 pm

That too.

7:29 pm

Wow Phan, impressive progress.

7:30 pm

It is also about having my fellow nurses backs.

7:30 pm

Thank you, Natasha. I had a very mild case, thankfully, although I have will have been out 2 full weeks, (Assuming I will be allowed back)

7:31 pm

Do you need to have 2 negative swabs before they let you back?

7:31 pm

Or are they moving to serological testing?

7:31 pm

Not that I am aware of. I have not been told to get retested. I don't think my company is requiring it, although some do.

7:32 pm

I saw that NIH is doing an antibody study, but I am not eligible, it is only for people not diagnosed with the virus. I am bummed.

7:32 pm

Yes, I did sign up for that. I'm getting the kit mailed to me.

7:33 pm

cool, Natasha.

7:33 pm

Whenever I bemoan the loss of using "the little grey cells" though , I think about doing my own tax forms, I put my vital stats down on the first page and see who I can call for help.

7:33 pm

Can I get a clue for the TA 6 pls

7:33 pm

At least I think that's what's happening. Sorry you're not eligible. I'm sure they'll be doing studies on positives to see how long the antibodies persist.

7:33 pm

I am sure.

7:35 pm

Not to mention collecting plasma for possible therapeutics...

7:35 pm

Hi, phan. I've been "listening" but didn't want to horn in. I think you're wonderful and wish you well. There's so much need for pro caregivers now that I'm sure they'll find something for you.

7:35 pm

Word jwr. Hat's off to phan.

7:36 pm

ta6 think soy sauce?

7:36 pm

you are sweet JWR. Well, no hats off until I get cleared to go back. I fell very early on, so haven't really done anything...

7:37 pm

like a brand of soy sauce?

7:37 pm

um, think it's more a type of it

7:37 pm

found it. Thanks

7:38 pm

Surviving is what you did. It takes guts. And from what I understand from a friend who lives in Berlin, it takes at least twice as long to really recover, soooo

7:39 pm

It is surprising how much it takes out of you, even with mild symptoms.

7:39 pm

Yes, it seems clear that so-called "mild" cases are anything but

7:40 pm

So be good to yourself!

7:40 pm

I will/am

7:41 pm

Thank you for the kind thoughts.

7:42 pm

Glad to hear you say so. It knocked your whole immune system out, not just the respiratory system. Give it every bit of the time it asks for and never mind what anyone else does. - not being kind, just leftover advice from a retired AIDS-care RN.

7:43 pm

In a time when we knew nothing about AIDs I am sure. That must have been scary too!

7:46 pm

From the start, at the center. Just like now - way too busy to be scared. More laughter than tears on the first dedicated unit from '83 on. ... You need to go play. Chat is good; Babble is better.

7:47 pm

I already got Fireworks!

7:47 pm

I think I will watch some more MASH...

7:48 pm

how apropos - laughing in the face of danger!

7:48 pm

You're kidding! Too bad we don't have a backup grid just for people who finish fast

7:49 pm

I have occasionally re-done grids. Not today though. I started very early this AM...

7:51 pm

Funny thing about danger - you simply (physically and mentally) canNOT be scared all the time. Sometimes people refuse to laugh when they think they're supposed to be sad, worried, grieving, etc. and make themselves stay that way but when the chance comes to grin, you do bear it better.

7:53 pm

You've reminded me of the video that circulated not long ago, of a parent in Syria who was teaching his toddler to laugh hysterically every time a bomb exploded near their home. What the heck, either they die from the bomb, or they survive and have a good belly laugh.

7:53 pm

Oh, phan, I wish you hadn't suggested Re-doing the grid. I am going back to what I do when I know I haven't got enough time to finish: the goal is Half-Plus-One.

7:54 pm

Interesting, Natasha. Do you still have the contact information for that video? I'd like to see it.

7:55 pm

Well at the moment, I have all the time in the world so...

7:55 pm

I saw that video. It was very sweet.

7:55 pm

It was on FB. https://www.facebook.com/whuq1/videos/\n10219317089870628/

7:55 pm

You can choose to be terrified, freaked out, or thinking that your home is covered with virus...or be careful and hope for the best.

7:56 pm

What? You don't do Sudoku too?

7:56 pm

Zakkly, Molly.

7:56 pm

Oh damn, the chat width just got blown.

7:57 pm

No, Sudoku is not my forte!

7:58 pm

Good night all.

7:58 pm

I'm off to have dinner and go to work. Bye, all. Great having a chance to chat with phan, and review old New York Times times with Natasha.

I just keep trying to post the tinyurl thing until it sinks in

8:03 pm

I know about tinyurl but didn't think the link long enough to merit the effort :-) I already apologized...

8:07 pm

If you go back in the archived chat, you can see the code error here. It inserts \n into the link and runs the chat off the page. It is a site error. No problem, just trying to let people know that most links need to be done with tinyurl.

8:07 pm

I'm in Babble expert and the chat window stayed the same so I wasn't so aware of the issue

8:08 pm

Interesting. I didn't know that it doesn't show up in Expert. I don't use that.

10:42 pm

I've never tried Expert, either - is there some advantage to it? I forget.
