Trudges off to PB, looking for pi4/5
50 to go.. i'm off to bed.. night folks
night ruru
For anyone waiting for Lickety's list, he's rebooting his computer and will update his list as soon as he's able.
ty Liz
:) - I usually check because I know a lot of people use it and if it hasn't updated, I email him.
Yes, cybernan, i think this will be good.
Hi Joy - I saw that you were new here. Have you been told about (or found on your own) Lickety's list of clues?
I did see the link...and however it works I think I’m going to need it?
I know some people use a program that automatically adds words but you can't do that with a Mac. I copy and paste the words from my word list into the bulk add at the bottom of the list and it automatically puts the words into their correct alphabetical position, so you can see where you've missed words out. Hope that makes sense.
I work on an Ipad so I don’t think I can cut and paste. Thanks for your input. I will check it out.
You can - copy and paste, not cut. I also use an iPad. It just means you either have to use a split screen or to use different tabs.
Anyway, try it. Lickety usually posts a new list round about 20 minutes after the new grid is posted each day.
Appreciate your advice.
You're welcome. Hope you enjoy the game.
ni7
JoyOh - has anyone mentioned the morewords.com site? I know there are others some folks use, too, but that is the one I like.
do we have a new friend? hello and welcome Joy
perhaps you might like to get the word an7, which is picnic pest + king of the jungle (savannah, jungle, potayto potahto)
that's my version of a welcome wagon gift
course with my luck today she's probably gone and will never see it
Clues are up
name that proper noun! ragtime musician Scott
thanks, lickety!
Joplin! I"m from Missouri originally, sort of. There's a town named that there, too
Windows updates got me today :) Hope it's a good grid
rbud and janice is also in the grid !
Isn't that odd. (but I think she spelled it Janis - was that her stage name? hmmm... )
yes i think you are right about the spelling
welp, looked it up, Janis Lyn Joplin was her real name, I guess I never registered that fact. And I can't say I ever heard of another spelled that way except Janis Ian.
But then i've not known very many Janices.
was not a great fan of her music
I liked some of the songs, but as she and so many others were already gone by the time I was really getting into music, she was just another one of the sad stories to me, in a way. Always thought "what a waste and a shame" about so many of them.
Phantom: citation
Hi Matty. I just started.
I'm not much ahead of you - I've been on calls all morning!
Along those lines, another phantom: sanitation. So close!
Hi Champ
good morning!
And so "of the times" : D
:)
Now I see citation.
And you'll never unsee it ;)
So true.
I'm seeing a lot of words that are just missing one letter to make a real word. More than usual. Grrrr...
Yes, so many near-words.
Yes!
Reminds me of that grammatically cumbersome song, "I Can't Unlove You"
Exactly, Scrabs!
I cannot see ANYTHING from that bottom A....
ac4/5
Ah HAH. Thank you
and ac5/12
Not seeing the 5, but it'll probably jump out at me later
I have ae5/12 from the bottom A
Got it - thank you!
wouldn't have seen that Molly...thx!
My first pass is going to be a lame attempt, I fear.
I am almost halfway but am not seeing much now.
Made it halfway...bbl...good luck all!
Bye, Champ.
I am past halfway and must get ready for work. Enjoy the day.
Has anyone got an 8 yet (silly question - I'm sure the answer is yes. I'm just sayin' I haven't found one yet :) )
Tr8. Tr5/12 + charged particle
Goo morning, friends from soggy NC.
Phantom: sanitation
Morning!!
Another tr8 ends in clay roofing piece
Another tr8 begins with horseback riding pace
good morning all. help with O in right column pls
ol4.4
sheesh ty Bea
The other is on4.4 I think
78 to go.....must feed pups and take them out.....later!!
Sanitation is a popular phantom : D
I'm sure it is.
How are you today?
I'm doing well Bea, how are you?
I'm good I think. Haven't been up long.
We had over three inches of rain yesterday and it is still raining
Sen some of that our way, please
It is supposed to rain all week. Sump pump is working over time.
Rain/heat/rain/heat...it's summer.
We haven't had much heat. It has been very pleasant. Now it is down right cold.
We had some uncomfortable days last week, but it has cooled off again. Looks like we will be on and off rain for about a week. Blah.
morning
Hello, Harry
Hi Harry
hello bea and molly
just jumping in
a 207 word grid with no ed, er or ing!
Plenty of words with two four letter suffixes. You will find them.
yes I see.
Just popped in and right away saw that Janice and Joplin are in the grid.
that's crazy!
It would be cool if Janis was in there too
hah. I didn't even think of that.
: D Harry. A lot of people think it is Jimmy Hendrix too
that one I knew
oratic: somebody who gets turned on by long speeches
Ooo, that got me or7, thanks
missing the bottom A - anybody have a clue?
ae5.12
ac4 and ae5
ty. nbt
and nbs. and 100 to go :)
I need to get presentable for a zoom meeting...Don't want to be in my jammies...
as long as you don't turn yourself into a potato
Oh live large Bea
Just remember, 10% of people on Zoom sessions aren't wearing pants : D
They are actually advertising pajamas that are "nice enough to wear in Zoom sessions".
yes - gonna be tough getting the kids back to dress code in september
assuming there's school.
I havent put any make-up on for three months. Not sure I remember how!!
I can go a few days with no make-up. After that, I get tired of looking at myself in the mirror without it
I too have been pretty lax on the makeup thing.
74 to go - bbl - hagd all
Morning all, digging the 60's vibe with Janice and Joplin both in the grid ;-)
hello
jans
She spells it Janis, though.
I think the Janis/Janice thing is going to be a hot topic today. This is round three or four.
Well, it's pretty awesome in any case.
Poor Scott (Joplin) no one thinks of him. : D
He's not in the grid.
Good morning, all. Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town...
I wonder how her friends all had porsches
Oh you know; it's a rock star thing.
I'm counting on you Lord, please don't let me down
But none of them was apparently around when she and Bobby McGee had to flag down a diesel.
Hello everyone!
But hey, you know you got it if it makes you feel good
FYI - anycat is not a word
Hello, car. That's because no one wants just anycat.
hey, everyone. it's 56 degrees here today. mid-June.
and I can't find any more words from that a that spells anycat
we talk about cats way too much around here..
yes, where is hurshy
especially since it is a subject i need to avoid
he

I have a question for you all...I had a card shower for my mom's 80th birthday. Sent the word to our friends and family. One of my friends sent a card and included a $20 bill in it. I thought that was weird. What do you think?
no.. not weird..
just old fashioned
Probably just someone's way of sending a gift. Some elders deal strictly in cash, not gift cards
so what does a card bday mean exactly?
This was not an older person.
Oh wait, it was one of your friends. I thought you said her friends.
was the card to just let them know?
I quit sending cash through the mail when the $100 I sent to one of my kids almost didn't make it. Luckily, his former landlord was an honest person.
A card shower is when you ask people to send cards to the birthday celebrant.
ohhh
The bar is open folks
=)
I just thought it was not appropriate.
Bea, did you specify "no gifts, just cards"?
I just said a "card shower'. Didn't invite them to a party...
a lot of people don't follow instructions bea
Ya think1/
Ya think?!
phantom: polination
It is hard to figure out. Maybe to some people, sending a card without some sort of gift inside is like showing up empty handed for a dinner invitation.
zoom meetings are not Encrypted unless you pay. we have been asked to stop using it at school
I appreciate your input. Mom and i just thought it was strange.
I think Mom should spend her 20$ on a pint of something fun : D
Is there something top secret about school based Zoom meetings?
maybe get her a second tiara bea :D
Bea's question made me think of cash only bridal showers which I find tacky beyond belief
LOL! She was so cute in her tiara.
i agree with that
she was..
cash only bridal showers are very tacky
The lack of encryption any one can view meetings. as we work with vaunrable children we have started using Google Meet.
I was maid of honor for my best friend and they did that tacky pay to dance with the bride thing. Guess who had to wear the "money apron"? I was mortified.
lol.. i wish i had a photo of that
it'd be my icon for a year
She promised me that they wouldn't do the apron thing or that "announce the wedding party" thing. They did both.
Get this...couples getting married now have web sites. These sites can contain a place where you can click to contribute to their "Honeyfund". Yes, to help pay for their honeymoon.
my wedding was pretty unconventional. freaked out my mothers family the most
that is just so rude .. I guess it's a new thing.
Any wedding where the bride and groom danced to Al Green is okay with me. : D
Meeting over. I'm sure they were happy that my mic wouldn't work.
What about destination weddings? Oh sure, I would love to drop ten grand going to Hawaii for your wedding. NOT.
i can't get enough of al green..
ours was drivable.. on the coast.. but i got a ra6 of grief from my parents about it.
i agree with molly just a card doesn't feel right to some people
molly that is what one of my siblings wanted for their wedding.. money … FOR THE HONEYMOON at some island i beiieve
Al Green sat down next to my mom and me at the airport bar in Nashville many years ago..... introduced himself.....nice guy :-)
Wow Une, what a cool story.
oh man.. UNE.. that's awesome
Lots of music folks in Nashville :-)
I've only met Neil Young that way.. he sat next to me at a restaurant in La Honda
and did he remember that a Southern man don't need him around anyhow?
:-)
he has a heart of gold :D
i guess 187 is as far as i go without the list
name that proper noun! chandler's ex of the annoying laugh
That's what the cowgirl in the sand said
Janice!!
ding ding ding!!!
Maybe we should play name that Janice
this grid would benefit from a G
Most of the famous Janis's spelled it with an s
janis ian. now I've got that seventeen song in my head. damn you
is it just me or is this grid a bit icks
Sorry Harry, that song is almost as bad as My Name Is Luca
oh now you've done it.
but I like the chord progression on seventeen. it's just so soppy. luca has not much redeeming quality
Chord progression...*blesses self*...another guitar player
hah. we used to jam to that seventeen song - it's kind of jazzy if played uptempo.
I'm finding it rather ick too hurshy
70 to go here, and definitely feeling the ick.
jeez found my last J that took me forever
what was it ru?
ja7
any longer and i'd need a custodian
I have the ja7. missing one other though
I have a jo4
Same as that, end with a vowel

*Waits for someone to burst into a chorus of You Light Up My Life
I didn't no6 my last N until just now...
Bea pulls an Aloy
ty bzz
=)
So let me tell you a story about a ni5...
It's okay. Everyone is allowed a clue blurt now and then
don't miss io6, a babblet we have sometimes, not as frequent as, say, etna
One of my grandson's was really into them when he was four or five. We were waiting at the elevator to go to see his new baby brother at the hospital. Back in the day they allowed that stuf.
a man named Jed does not start ni5
i'm so thick, i can't figure out what this ni5 is
What? Kids can no longer visit newborn siblings?
Teenage mutant Hursh
The elevator doors open and a young woman wearing an all black hajib, head to toe, stepped out.
My grandson stood open mouthed and whispered, "MaBea! It's a ni5!!!" He was stunned!
MaBea...oh God, I love that they call you MaBea
As she walked by, she gave me a wink with her twinkling eyes.
What a cute story. I bet he remembers that his whole life.
I have 20 words for later...maybe. Got another meeting in a few...
And to think, Zoom used to be those kids from Boston on PBS
thank you
kids probably cannot visit newborn siblings now because of COVID, molly
morning all, ooh another 200+ one, nice
That much I understand Hursh. I got the impression that the comment pre-dated COVID
i can see why you got that impression, yeah
i can't say what Bea meant but i don't THINK there was a problem with it before that
I am hopelessly stuck. listing with 66 to go.
70 left for me
hey look, ca6/24!!
hi all
hey jm
happy tuesday
did you get the other one hursh, or just the one?
meh
i just got one ca6/24
you may want to look closer
i shall try
aHA
i had the SECOND one :D
good morning all
good morning cnan, and a lovely day to you!
cool :)
morning nan
hi cyber
phantoms abound in this grid
lol -- reading the chat - guess I'm really old - when my kids were born kids were not allowed to visit in the hospital and husbands weren't allowed in the delivery room.
hey huesh, though you'd like those ca6s
if you don't talk to your cat about ca6, WHO WILL? (i have a tshirt that says that)
there are so many phantoms it makes it hard to find the words
EXACTLY!
have you seen the tv ads for feliway? intriguing. wonder if it works.
oh, i've known about feliway for a long time. i think results vary by cat. some, it works wonders, others, hard to tell if it makes a diff.
vets do recommend it, so it's not some just scammy type of thing or anything
have you any reason to try it?
my old cat cinder was a bit of an anxious cat, yeah, so i tried it to calm her down. it may have helped, but it was hard to be sure.
well, i've managed to find 170 words, including just over half of the 7s, but none of the 8s
I just got my last 8.
some fun words. but runnin gout of inspiration
i've definitely heard from others online for whom it made a BIG difference though
7 to go here - all 7s and 8
in cat chatrooms :D
wish it had been around when i had nine. i hated when they got in a mood to fight.
my my, that's a lot of cats!
and the worst was when one was sick and came home from the vet. i am not sure if it was the smell or if one knew the toher was dying
yeah, lot of 7s and 8s in this one
54 to go, 18 of them 7/8 letters
36 to go here
my favorite number
ditto!
I FINALLY FOUND AN 8!!!
yay
ditto that 36 is your favorite number?
stats for the bottom a please?
getting my tree removed. they've been here nearly 6 hours
ac4/5 and ae5/12, cnan
the an7/8/7 was ridiculous.
ditto that i have the same count as moo
ae 5/12
oh give helps then please harry! :D
went to morewords - I had no idea there were so many things people could be against
uh oh, what are we against now?
:)
oh i have 2 an7, but not 8
an7: pro bike
ty - nbt, nbs
an8: against flagstaffs
ooh, wait, i lnow! missing the 8 though
an7: a very small animal and a larger animal
yes have that
yes that one always amuses me
oh i see the 8 clue now
haha a doodle-bug or a roly-poly
well that 8 may have to do with like, magnets, maybe?
that 7 is bs though
all's suddenly quiet. going to out to see the aftermath.
phantom: pinpoint
ty for the an's
they're all sitting resting under the pines. i offered them water earlier but they said they brought lots.
that got me down to double digits
last 2 words sa 8/7
i tried sanitation at the flip...

yeah harry want to clue that sa7?
they are no fun.
OH I GOT IT

sa7: tree emission + two small words

the 8 builts from the 5, the 7 not so much
come __ __
i need 6 Ps (that's too expensive! there must be more than this provincial life!)
well, 8 Ps, but, 6 from the top
still have 9 ps
not finding that sa 8
add most of a number to the sa5
7 p's
5...guess I haven't really been looking at those p's
phantom: pilot

a clue for what?
ci7

well, that couldn't have been more obvious! Thanks Hurshy
citipol would be nice
I need a clue for the sa 7 - don't think it is a compound
scroll thee down cnan :D
I have the sa 5 and 8 -- it is the 7 that I need
Me too
yeah, and i said, it's rather like the 8, but start with the maple stuff that you make into syrup
yes and harry said that beginning + 2 small words
so, it's the same last 4 as the 8
ty -- strange words
only makes sense to geologists and botanists I guess
oh is that who? lol
this is too painful -- going to list
it's a bit painful even WITH the list lol
hi nan, just finished. there were so many unfamiliar words. At least it's doable!
Found the sa7!
Congrats saanichat
Hi saanich -- will keep at it
pi*(the)**** on the donkey lol

ty hurshy
morewords is being so slow, is that cause we're all using it so heavily? lol
so if anyone can clue ci7 or ti7, you may beat morewords
oooh it's working again
for a moment, it worked and gave me ti7
i just went to morewords and it said unavailable
ty for the pi7
yeah it's intermittent

No, two jo4 and ja7 there are three j's. You said you had one jo4
ty
just exhausted every possible ja4 until I realized you said ja7
in firefox it's slow or intermittent
have to leave for an appointment soon -- back later
It is amusing how many (including me) are not seeing that ja7. It's right there, plain as day.
oh, just saw it
it was like a 3D image, I just had to step back a little
Ooo, like the Magic Eye
exactly
I only get about half of those
phantom citation
I can never see those.
The one that always got me was that "is it blue and black or gold and white" dress
Yes, that was strange.
yeah, that was crazy. in my mind it was clearly one thing and then when I asked my son and husband they said the other and I thought they had lost their minds
I saw white and gold. I just couldn't understand how anyone saw black and blue.
oddly I saw a combo, like blue with gold trim
are these weird c's today? can only find 6
back again, 36 left
96 here
There's some less common words mixed in there
couple of compounds
are they feline related
yes
still have 3 c's left myself
just found 1, feline drugs
and another
keep looking :)
maybe you'll find it after a short rest
one I'd like to do on this rainy day
oops
just grayed my 4th tile - but they're all 3 or less LOL
10 greys here...excluding the N
yes, I wasn't counting the 0 N either ;)
only 3 of them are above 3...and the top is the corner S
eek, just saw there are 8 8's. I have 1.
and 4/20 7's.
4 8s so far
insany - I'm sure that was in the animaniacs theme song
still 20 4s left so I've got that going for me
got the italian goodbye that I always miss!
woot! finished the L!
dog's head is on keyboard. makes it hard to type.
ok, he's gone. stuck at 62 left. not my day I guess.
I'm back, sorry
work calls
30 to go here
no prob, I figured you got a call or something. and I just chat with myself here all the time.
still have 11 4's.
6 fours for me
and per usual the vowels are giving me trouble
5 vowel words to go
7 A's, 3 O's, 2 E's, 3 i's
3 A, 1 I and 1 O
found the i
from the left?
no, the last one was in column 4
have all the i's now
ok, I do need 2 from that i.
found the o too
I can guess which 2 you need on that one

5/10
yeah, there's an io6
wait, I have io4, it has to be from that one
in4 is from the other
yes
in4, in5 and io6 off that right i

I always miss that babblet
yeah, that was my last i
the music at the beginning of a show
what is the pt total for the io6?
all one pointers
got it, thx
14 greys now
only 6 here
finally grayed bottom a!
nice
Sadly, that gets you a spot in the PB. Drinks are on the house today.
haha
heh
But I was referring to the french city...just lazy with the capitalizations
good save (lol)
:D
are there weird r's? still need 5
oooo theres a duck
well, there's some uncommon ones in there
but they appear in babble from time to time
ok, thx
some appear more commonly
MR DUCKS?
yes, the duck is in there Ata...but is it a Northern?
Or maybe it's the southern for a change :)
:D
oh, famous Barney Fife saying in the grid (2 words)
who is barney fife?
from a US tv show from the 60s(?), The Andy Griffith Show
that's the show that Opie is named after :D
still on in reruns here. when I was a kid my older bros. watched it like every day so I've seen most of them several times
of course, Hurshy :D
PS, Ata - Opie was played by a young Ron Howard who became a director later in life.
politic
oops
and who has a daughter who starred in Jurassic World :)
he was Opie, then Richie Cunningham, then suddenly the next thing i knew he was bald
ooh, thx, didn't have that one
yes, he started wearing ball caps all the time
at least it was a nice word :)
the practitioner is not in there tho....albeit it's close
yeah, surely Happy Days made it to Scotland?
yep just about
there are a lot of big words just missing one letter
made it to NZ
Nip it
ding ding ding! Molly is the winner!
moo, did Andy Griffith make it to NZ?
perhaps, predates me a bit
we didn't really have reruns in NZ
Although we did have some old shows
Only had two channels growing up...
Do I win one of Aunt Bea's pies?
well, you're just a smidge older than me, but like I said, heavy reruns here when I was a kid.
yes, not as much bandwidth to exploit TV shows down in Aotearoa
I loved how Andy's character was unfailingly kind in that show.
I;m currently working with a survey boat out at the chatham rise
One of my favorite scenes on Happy Days is when Marion and Howard go by the movie theater and see a poster for The Music Man (which starred a very young Ron Howard). Marion said "Oh Howard, I love this movie. That little boy reminds me of Richard."
really? Cool
I don't remember that scene, Molly. that's neat.
Ata, I'm not sure what any of that means. :D
well, a boat is tis floaty thing that sits on the sea
LOL, I did know what that means
Off the South Island of New Zealand...a fair way west, is the Chattam Islands, which is the tip of an underwater landmass that is higher than the surrounding pacific ocean
Sorry East
are you currently on the floaty thing?
not west
I'm not on the floaty thing but all the people I'm working with are on the floaty thing :)
they're probably on that big blue wobbly thing
yes absolutely, putting down pokey things to grab bits of the sea floor
wish I could do floaty things but I get motion sick in my day to day life, so boats are out of the question
oh ...good ol' dirt grabby thingies
so do I ... thank goodness for tablets
have you been watching The Little Mermaid with your daughter, moo?
yes, motion sickness is one of the worst non-lethal feelings I can imagine
No, haven't seen it
my family thinks I'm making it up, even though my oldest son has issues too
Mostly good on boats, but there's been a couple of occasions where I wasn't
oh, well Ariel (the little mermaid) calls things by names like that
Ah
I have to have prescription strength tablets just to sit in the passanger seat of a car
I did a cruise once and took something every day plus wore the wrist bands a couple of times
Have you ever tried ginger Ata?
didn't get sick but I could feel when we left port, etc., when no one else could
ginger, sea bands, kwells, nothing hits it - I get to take one of the drugs used in hospital for post operation nausea
may have reached my limit today...22 words left
Ah, found 2 more...so premature
I have gotten sick on roller coasters, post operation, random regular things.
down to 54 here. where are the words?
I got it after diving once...think all that water in my sinuses probably didn't help
did you finish the S, moo?
there's quite a lot of unusual words in this on unfortunately
I hate diving in kelp whoosh swirl whoosh swirl. reminds me must take tabs tonight, diving tomorrow
it's definitely worse the older I get, but I've had it since I was a kid
you involved in ocean sciences ata?
yeah ... marine ecologist by trade and diver at every other bit of time
nice
I miss the ocean...I'm pretty far away from it now
I now spend my time looking at deep sea ecological assessments
But mountains are cool too
I like both. not sure I could pick a favorite.
not as cool as the sea :D I live about 30m away from it
this is where we're going tomorrow, I think I might be in this video actually
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qOTgb\nSbsYw
oh no, thats not me
are these videos going to make me sick?
nope
well I can't get the link to work. seems like there's a letter I should remove? I can't remember.
\n
oh wait let me tinyurl it
https://tinyurl.com/ya5wgkdw
thx zooz, that worked
looks ni4 under there.
its lovely, its our local dive site
my husband likes diving but I've never done it. I don't even like the idea of snorkeling.
wow, I'm not even finding words with the list
its one of those things you either love or hate!
really struggled to find the number in the grid. I think I need a ca6
even I can see one :P
meow + charged particle.
but thats only three letters
Stuff meow goes crazy for.
no, I have the ca6, but I need to take one right now
meow + consonant + opp out.
Oh sorry you have the ca6 .
zooz needs a ca6
of milk?
No I need to win the lottery.
maybe this is an american word?
it's a short doze in the middle of the day
ohhhhh
I know we are in lockdown but I wonder if a millionaire would still be waiting to have a cortisone injection in the shoulder over fourteen weeks.
probably a millionaire would have a dr that makes house calls and would bring one to him
Hence why I need to win the lottery.
do you know what your shoulder problem is? I think I got 5-6 cortisone injections before finally having surgery
what is wrong with yours?
oh, I already asked that, sorry. very drowsy here
No idea as the doctors will not see me as they are in lockdaown.
Ah, didn't know if you'd seen them before lockdown
That is okay, Carla when I take my zapain tabs I will be drowsy too!
No I am stupid I somehow hurt myself just before lockdown but did not think anything of it until it was too late. haha!
I'm just being put to sleep by the nonstop rain. also hasn't reached 60F today when normally this time of year it's like 95
Oh I think that is a nice sound to drift off too!
I have noticed I tend to moan a lot and be on the negative side of things. I do apologise.
Okay, back...will take another shot at this grid...20 to go
that stinks. pretty sure I broke my little toe back in April but I didn't go in. what would they do for that anyway? nothing. shoulder is tough though. I had a bad shoulder for a couple of years and ended up having frozen shoulder and it's hard to do things with a bad shoulder.
And it's 97 here...about 36C
I went to the list at 54! and you're still beating me, moo. 33 left. 7's on the list are causing problems.
A lot of times if you have a shoulder injury you can be pretty sure it will affect your neck also.
yeah, we are at 59F right now, see I didn't say the C because I don't like that kind of math
yeah there's some oddish 7s...and I still have 7 of those to go, and three 8s
I would say after surgery and PT mine is around 99% compared to the other
still have three 4s
still have 4 4's
ah, there's a 7
yep, some weird 4's. I have an idea what yours are.
they'd have to start with A, C, N, P or T
the only letters I have left
yep. P
and it's not unlikely that some of them are easy
but you know a lot of weird words so you may have gotten those
Oh, I have those two
ok
Three pys
haven't really looked for the 4s, so should probably get those out
yes, have them
there's one, a real easy one
was it a number?
no, "to shade"
or colour
Or color
or adjust the hue, saturation or contrast for that matter
yeah, the extra u makes me want to pronounce it like velour
I've never understood why color and favor get the U but actor doesn't
although I've heard that pronounced velore by some ;)
have to ask the french
they came up with the words
yeah, I say it more like ve-lure
so colour makes me think colure
Could also ask why it's not acter
colure sounds like a fishing term :)
that's the bigger question
ta8 pls hi all
tailpins is not a word :)
sendor has become sender at least
almost have it peri
Compond word.
think more automotive
omg, I forgot to tell y'all - my middle brother texted last Fri on his birthday with a pic of a fishing lure stuck to the side of his face. he took his son fishing that morning and the son cast one right into my brother's face. my mom tried to remove it but he ended up having to go to the ER.
Atomotive yo mean.
oh yes, in american
oatomotive for our Canadian friends
Cah for our ausies
automitive for the kiwis
or bostonians
yes, or bostonians
Oh my I bet he was in a lot of pain!
ouch
my mum stood on one once, just as the guy was about to cast
he said it wasn't too bad. I guess they numbed it with novocaine or something. I think they had to push it more forward to cut the barbs off then pull it out.
the nurses told him he was the 2nd one that week with a lure stuck in his head
ouch, moo, did she get it out or have to get it removed?
She went to the hospital
same kind of problem
Another one where I say good grief that must of been painfull!
and you also have mobility issues until it heals
one reason I don't really care for fishing, the others being touching the live bait and taking the hook out of the fish
I don't eat fish, so figure it's not really fair fishing...though I do take my daughter to catch some of the char in the creek coz she really enjoys it
we also get a fair number of crayfish
and then set them all free
I literally never get the crown in the grid pre list
Unusal for an American to say mum I thought Americans preferred mom?
crown?
we used to catch those when I was a kid only we called them crawdads
like a beauty pageant winner wears
yeah, fun creatures
moo is a kiwi, zooz
oh, yeah I was missing that, tx
always seem to get the anagrams tho
sorry :D
I thought surely you had that
Ah that makes more sense then.
17 to go...
19. I'm skipping words left and right on this list
ty mool for ta8
I was thinking you meant some sort of award not an actual word...just for the record
Haha!
yw peri
tough grid for me
tough grid for most I think peri
lot of weird words / uncommon words
really tough for me too, peri
This is more challenging than average for me too
Actually on reflection I think it was mentioned before that you were from kiwi. Sorry my mind seems to forget things these days.
91 left and will go to list sooner than later
speaking of fishing, just guessed at one 8 and looked it up and it is fishing related.
I'm a bit of a mongrel now anyway zoo
And I am behind in the chat talk haha! I will shut up now.
Live in the US, and travel on an Australian passport
which 8 is that Carla?
didn't want to give it away for moo ;) first tr8
I mean, 3rd LOL
okay, made it through the list and still have 17 left
oh, well I guess that's 2 more 8s I need to look for :)
I have 2 tr8 did not realize there was a 3rd
there's one
see, I gave it all away!
I did find one of them on my own
it's okay, it's really dregs on this board now for me
mine are tr8/45 and start with the same 5 letters
well that gave me the other one, thx peri
just missing one 8 now
help with the one I am missing please
sounds like a piece of horse equipment more than a fishing tool
yeah, first part is horsey, last part is fishy
I'm still missing 2 8's! do you have sa8? if so, can you clue, if not, you're welcome.
almost neolithic and neopolitan (though the latter is a proper nound I believe)
sa 8, builds off the shorter sa word
there's an sa7 which is odd too, not related to the other two sa words
got it, thx
same ending as the 8 tho
yeah, I can't find that either.
ok, looking
got it, thx
I really don't feel bad about going to the list so early since almost all the words are words I don't know.
yeah
those two especially
found the 8 because someone earlier said it was related to the shorter sa, so found the shorter one, and went from there
not seeing that last tr8
I am missing 2 8's
missing four n's still
what's a fish in a mountain stream, but remove a vowel to make a horse gait. then, what does a fishing pole have in it to put the lures on
I have one N I skipped - 2nd ni7
have no idea Carla but thanks
I have one ni7 that sounds like a chemical
what's a dance called the fox*, peri?
ah, there's two n's
13 to go
yes, I have that one, moo, need the other
got it than you carla
me too...apparently
oh, thought you found it just then ;)
just found it
vitamin
my missing 8 is p8 and I know the 3rd letter
that's the n's done
no I found the guys with shurikens
actually I know the 4th letter as well
I have a p8
sounds like a cookie to be honest :)
do tell
but apparently it's a brigand
is it a pa8
when you say cookie, do you really mean a biscuit or something else? ;)
it is pi8, peri
a certain french cookie
ty looing
Well the meds have kicked in so I will be off to bed. Goodluck with the rest of the grid. Thankfully I have finished! Goodnight.
ah, thx
that you can probably find in your local grocery store, often in the freezer
night zoo
good night, zooz. hope the meds help
Not sure what 8 I'm missing
ah, found it
8s done
an?
and thx for the clue that it didn't start with p ;)
was scrolling through to make a guess
yeah, that was my last 8
10 to go
12 6's and 7's here
5 of them are 7s...so this should be fun
2 4s, 1 5, 2 6s and 5 7s
I have 2 a7 I couldn't find. did you finish a's?
oh, there's a 6
still have 2 a's to go
and there's the other 6
spanish I'm guessing based on their spelling (male and female)
oh, I think I have those then
yeah, sounds similar to the 8
not seeing the pi8
kind of rhymes with the french cookie that is often sold in different colors in the freezer section
there's a cookie called the ma* that has coconut. the french cookie that is like a little sandwich with filling only has one vowel in the last syllable.
most people just call them both the same thing, so I probably just confused you more, peri
still not seeing it. will go to list soon
will make dinner first, bbl
you know what it is to be left of a deserted island?
that's the ending
just looked up a 7, another word I've never seen before
maybe if you chose which deserted island you were going to end up, then it's be pi8
well, one 7 I looked up is a type of marble now another one that looks unrelated is like granite
rocking it
ah, the marble clue helped
I was trying a different ending
oh, going down that vein are we
shale we continue?
7 to go
A, C, C, P, P, P, T
I guess I have to accept my fate
8 left, and my mind went blank on the panning, I mean punning
or accepppt my fate as the case may be
do you have the chemistry a7
it's okay, just say what's top of mine
from the top A?
no, nm
and you got the c marble one I was talking about?
still 2 fours to find, should figure those out
have all the a's from the middle column
there was a c6 that gave me a lot of trouble, looks like a name
oh, have all the c's
6s that is
the c's I have left are 4,5 or 7
ah yes, now I know which one you're talking about
there's an r that rhymes with it
did you get the italian goodbye I mentioned earlier?
oh duh
that's one
yes, the rhyming r gave me trouble as well
6 to go
I always seem to find that late
or not at all
yeah, this is probably the first time ever I found it pre list
ci is just not a combo I gravitate towards
just looked up another 7 - more science
yes, with the ine, one, ole and the tic, lot of sciencey words
should I know oo7? or just go ahead and look it up
well that one was -nol
Well the oo6 comes up fairly frequently, so think of an adjective form of that
well non and nol are often followed by nole and none
lol, I tried the oo with a different 3rd cons and then had to look it up. just not my word day
heh
5 left! P's and T's
but no barnums
6 left....4 are PT
so corny, I kill me
well you could always bail-ey
if one does not amuse oneself, whom is one to amuse?
you're turning this chat into a circus
good point
Well...there is not going anywhere fast
both my p's are 6/21 and I know 3-4 letters. how hard could that be?
well I have them if you need clues
just looked them up
small opening sounding one
do you have ta6/21
yes, have all the 6s
that was is serpentine
nm, found it. I always think of it as a place
no that's a w, or starting with an s :)
a place with good little league baseball teams ;)
it's one of the 10 world's most deadliest from the great southern land
one T7 left
did you get the plural?
yes, a different T7 left :D
oh...I don't have that
well, was convinced it was tipline, like for anonymous callers to report crimes, but that's not it
yeah
I have tried tinpan so many times
got it. fireworks, but I don't feel good about them ;)
yay for you
it is a compound word
oh yeah, the mining devide
device
5 to go, and the Ts are done
yep
so now just a & p's?
or just p's?
A, C, P, P, P
and still one 4
ah, there's the 4
A, C, P, P
5, 7, 7, 7
In no particular order
ah, there's the 5, the shorebird
A, C, P all 7s
oh geez
guessed the a
I think you've got this!
that a was a bit lucky
oh, there's the p
just the c to go
either the type of tv show I mentioned earlier (animaniacs) or the marble variety
well there's one other that's a plural
yeah, it's the latter
well, thre's the 7/8 combo
which I have
and then the animaniacs
okay, can I have the second letter?
would you like the 2nd letter and/or points?
ha!
ci7
ah
fw
blind spot for the ci
well done! bravo!
well, that one was work
tx for the help
np, or should I say no worries. and I got a lot of help!
yeah, I think maybe around 7-10 words got some sort of clue on this one for me
but it was a tough board
yep, way too sciency for me
A lot of educated guesses on my part
oh well, we'll see what tomorrow's grid brings. off to make supper!
20 7 letter words...without a pattern, that's work
clue for an 8 please
yeah, that was rough
against lech walesa
nancy, one is what snow chains provide
thanks moo, got it
why is ta6/1 accepted but not ronin?
ta 6 is a snake
it's also a feudal janpanese ruler
perhaps we are looking at two different ta6/1
I think ronin, which is a japanese word, wasn't really used in English (although more modern history, including the Robert De Niro movie of the same name) perhaps made american english speakers more aware
Yes, and I wouldn't be surprised if they named the snake after it
there's only one ta6
funny, the dictionary does not cite that meaning.
so enable is accepting the janpanese ruler.
No
Enable has no definitions
But it does source several dictionaries, including Merrian Webster, which does have the snake definition
so the definitaions we get when we click a word have no relation to anything
The american heritage dictionary, another source, also has it
Correct
well
they're basically just a free service that you can provide a parameter to in order to look up a word
Enable is just a list of words
interesting
Largely based on a set of I think it was 7 US dictionaries, curated by a small team
interesting
yeah, I originally thought it was the same list as TWL98 which is the wordlist that the US Scrabble players used at the time, but Molly pointed out they were different so went and researched it
Enable was then made free to use for online wordgames, which is why many of the games you'll play online use it
But there are some newer versions I'm told
Is anyone having problems putting a word in? It says I have alread put it in but it's not on the list. It's the last ti word.
Had no problems, have you tried reloading the page?
Just reloaded and it is saying the same. wait... it just came up. thanks much

58 to go and I'm giving up on this one
I've been trying for a 2 mile "walk" most days. Trying to set a weight loss goal of 5 pounds this month. Don't think I'll make it.
56 to go.
10 left. giving up. night all.
