Anyone conscious at all?
It's my last word....
I just began movieman, sorry. Plus, I am not that good at this. My goal is to get 50%. Anymore that that, and I get pretty proud of myself ;)))
Never mind, I can wait....
japanese clay structures , hard to clue movieman
ha/cons/ vowel/ high letter cons/ vowel....hope that helps
thx diz, that helped me
Hi all. Would anyone be able to give me a nudge on the ep7, please?
Matty, ep7 is a plural with ep + what you fasten cloth diapers with + two vowels
I guess it isn't a plural, since there is no singular. But that gives you an idea how it ends.
thx Molly
Thank you!
It is a vestibule of a classic temple. Maybe they put the Japanese clay structures in there. : D
need to leave for doctor appt. help with either 8 pls. co8 or lo8
lo8 what you might get from a bank and add that you give your **** that you will pay it back
dumb compound IMHO
hmm not getting the end
nm found it
dumb indeed. thanks
Good morning, fellow Babblers. It is Caleb the camel's favorite day.
Short week for the working folks. Most of us are off on Friday since the holiday falls on Saturday.
Excellent!
And I took Monday off. 4 days of bliss : D
Good for you!
Are you doing anything for the 4th, Bea?
Not a thing.
I'm not even sure what we will have for dinner...Probably grilled burgers.
Are there any big fireworks displays in your area?
We did hot dogs and burgers for Memorial Day. My son has requested steaks on the grill for the 4th.
We just did steaks for Father's Day.
And hot dogs for dinner last week.
We tried these giant Boar's Head hot dogs this week. So big you have to put them on an over size bun. But very good. I love Boar's Head products.
I'm not a big hot dog fan. Mine have to be all beef and bun length so they are thinner.
All beef hot dogs from Costco
I usually buy Nathan's
I only like hot dogs grilled. We have an indoor grill cooker for the non-barbecue months.
I love Nathan's Bea. That is what we usually get too.
I have a feeling that the all beef at Costco is Hebrew National or Nathans
My family would go to the original Nathans in Coney Island. With mustard on the fries
I love mustard on my fries. Such a memory.
65 left after first pass...Need to go water plants before it gets too hot...
My favorite "kid" 4th of July memory is those red white and blue ice cream bars that Good Humor used to sell only around the 4th. Not the bomb pops, but the ice cream bars. They don't make them anymore. I keep looking for a copy cat recipe.
hi all
Wow I never expected such an offensive term as je5/30 !
Agreed
I agree too
although Enable does accept really offensive words like dago. Really some words should just disappear forever.
Oh can we not go there again...please. We just recently had an entire day on je5.
Hi all....can I please have a clue for co8 please?
LOL jmc must've missed that day. if Enable does accept the pt, why not accept the one who does? classic enable.
I just got here flask, sorry
ok Carla
anyone else??
co 8/70 - you use an electrical co** to plug in + a word that sounds like a man's name
thanks luv..got it!
sl 5/22 please?
not got it, sorry
nm found it for fireworks
well done!
thanks Flask
HAGD everyone
sl5.22 what sort of wo4 is that? I think they just make up these things
was thinking it looked swedish and it appears so when I click through all the def.
ikea furniture maybe?
:)
What? Are the Swedish anti vowel like the Welsh?
the only reason I thought it looked swedish is because I may do too much shopping at IKEA :D
clue for sl 520, pls
5/20 or the 5/22 we're talking about?
5/22
no idea bichon
not fast (minus last cons) + lawyer's degree. really hard to clue. just know last 2 are cons., 1 being high point.
The last two letters are an abbreviation for a young criminal
ty carla, Molly
Bea, if you are still here, email me when you are done with Little Fires Everywhere. I'm curious to know what you think.
ty got it
nbt
PO7 clue pls?
the 1 i have is a plural fan
oh duh ty mont
and the PO6 is made up of very fine particles such as within a fire extinguisher...
bbl for last 21 - have a great day all and stay safe
hello friends! oooh, my hubs favorite substance is in the grid!
po 6 ?
just guessing
ai 5 ?
we4
should've known, my hubs fav too
lol abner. thank god we live in massachusetts, that's all im saying
not a fan, myself. prefer a good pink whitney
not a fan here either
i fully support others choices - just not my bag, baby
I don't care for it either, regretfully...
I agree it's fine to help people with pain etc
yeah, the pain of day-to-day living, lol
i will NEVER forget walking down the street with my daughter, who had just moved to brooklyn. I said "Ugh! a skunk! What is a skunk doing in Brooklyn?" And she rolled her eyes at me and said "mum, for god's sake. It's not a skunk. That's we4." Mighty skunky we4
I've known some people who were habitual weed users, to the point where it was disrupting their lives. So while I agree that people should be able to choose their poison of choice, I don't fall in the "it's not addictive" side of things.
i agree.. it is addictive i know people who had to go into a program for we4 usage
I suspect that has more to do with the personality of the user. I have seen people get addicted to all kinds of things that disrupt their lives - even things that outwardly appear healthy, like going to the gym. Anything done to excess is addiction.
guys guys, i just learned a cool new word in my crossword puzzle!!
gallimaufry - it's kind of like olio, it means a mixed bag
not likely to show up in babble though :D
And let's don't forget the cost...yikes
coder
oopsie.. sorry folks
anyone have the ha 6/33? my last word
Mubner, the cost is what became disruptive to the people I know. That and the lack of motivation to get a job. I agree, many things can become addictive.
ha + first two of not day + first two of not run
ah.. thanks.. i never see that one
Why would you?
that is a super cool word, thank you for sharing, hurshy! I LOVE stuff like that
glad you enjoy it too trif :D
I'll trade one back - postprandial. Anything happening after a meal. A postprandial walk to shake off lethargy, for example
oh i know that one because Dr McCoy used it in Star Trek IV :D
smarty!
you mean trekkie lol
lolol. I'm currently spinning the hair color wheel again, and babbling whilst it develops. NO clue what color I will be in few minutes.
uh, how does that work, trif? usually one sees the color on the box
And as we all know, Hurshy has her favorites memorized. Would anyone like to hear the entire script of The Princess Bride?
im putting it over the last color I used, which was navy blue. When school was called for the year a bunch of us "curled up and dyed"
well the postprandial thing was a really funny scene
LOOOOOVE the princess bride!
we are all in the pit of despair these days
speaking of which, carl reiner died yesterday :(
it was he who gave the book to his son Rob, as a result of which we have the movie
A friend of mine had cancer (she is in remission with a good prognosis) and she has quit dying her hair. She is convinced that the frequent use of hair color contributed to her lymphoma.
I know! so sad. I LOVED him on the Dick Van Dyke show
thanks for ol4 & 5, hurshy.;) 'twas my missing 2 o's
Damn, happy trails Carl. He was a legend.
98!
oops i ran in and said the word without checking the grid first hokie! lol
I am missing an s from each s tile, any guesses?
i'm just starting the S words now
sc 7/52 homie
the so4 always makes me laugh. My son was bullied in to signing u for some dumb thing he didn't want, in high school, and he put his name down as "Hans Olo." -- who, might I add, still receives mail here at this address, even though my son is 26 and long out of HS
ok. also missing one H from upper if you have finished those
sl5/22 homie
I have one ru, is there another?
to be more specific I have sl5/22 and sc7/52
must be easy ones then
do you have sc5, a fishie
those are the hardest to find.. i don't have a clue to what you need now
yes
do you have sc4/6
thx for playing :D
the rest of the s's are regular words
um. . .actually the book The Princess Bride was written AFTER the movie. And it is hysterical in a different and the same way
how about 1 D?
no, it was not written after the movie
my son bought me a first edition
the book was written in 1973, the movie made in 1987.
what a movie! haven't read the book, but that was a good year.
Did Anne Hathaway write it ?
anne hathaway was born in 1982
you are right hursh I am wrong. . . got confused by something else
william goldman wrote the book
well.. that eliminates that possibility
he's thinking of the Princess Diaries
well, abridged it from the original s. morgenstern version ;)
and william goldman wrote the screen play
and mark knopfler wrote the score
the imaginary S. Morgenstern
to be honest... i'm kind of done with princesses
for the millionth time, IT'S NOTHING LIKE PRINCESS DIARIES
well hokie maybe you and i are missing the same top S
Es Eliminated!
still missing 2 e's from 2nd row
probably the ep7 which is built off the na4 babblet
that's it, looking now
perhaps also the ep5
that's the other
Hurshy, I have given up on Ru and The Princess Bride. And I have actually found out that there are people who don't like the movie (I don't get that) so there it is.
is the ep5 a real word/
I found it
it is not a word one recognizes from life, no
finished the e's, thx
weird, but also, i think ruru would not be one of the people who doesn't like it
which is what makes it a shame
Os Obliterated!
O!
same
w's done
well, at least ruru was right about the sl5/22 for ME, that's what i'm missing now from the bottom
is the na 4 na4/4 that goes with ep7?
ru would love the Princess Bride.
I read the most insufferable "Why I Don't Like The Princess Bride" article. By a woman. All about princess stereotypes and how we should not feed them to young girls.
yes MLF
the sl5 is sorta swedish
it's the plural na4/4
thanks jmc, monkeyed it from the points
Sorta Swedish - The New Ikea Knockoff Store Near You
i don't think buttercup is all that stereotypical
got it finally
i had a movie night once a month for my staff mainly 18 to 23 year old young men. Every year I would pull out the Princess Bride and they would roll their eyes. Then end up loving it.
I don't think she is either.
buttercup?
the princess in the Princess Bride
not a gan of the princess bride...sorry! hehe
buttercup was raised on a small farm in the country of Florin. her favorite pastimes were riding her horse and tormenting the farm boy that worked there. his name was Westley, but she never called him that.
fan. sheesh’
not a fan of that movie either
isn't that a wonderful beginning??
I was thinking Powerpuff girls for some reason
Stories for young and old are supposed to be fun. With a little magic and adventure thrown in. We don't need to be politically correct when we are telling stories.
we don't all have to like the same things
true:)
I actually emailed another attorney with "as you wish" and he totally got it.
how boring would it be if we all liked the same things
On the other side of that fence, I have no idea why people like NASCAR.
we go round and round and round this track and sometimes somebody dies or gets hurt real bad...
hi India I would think it would matter what we all actually liked as a whole
I like to use "you keep using that word. I don't think you know what it means" on people.
Molly I watch NASCAR Monster Energy almost every weekend
there's another, most wonderful princess in the grid today - Sara Crewe - A Little Princess
I like car races.
idk why nobody can make a decent movie version of that
one of them, her dad turns out to be alive after all one of them, they move the entire thing to america (yuck)
because they want happy endings.
it HAS a happy ending. just not THAT happy.
hurshy what version of the movie is she iin?
I still can't find 5 L's
Sara Crewe is the name of the character, so, all of them
is this the same as Shirley Temple version/
i dunno, i think that might be the one where her dad turned out to be alive
she goes to live with an aunt who is mean?
And Hurshy said a "decent version"
then yes I t hink that is it, I have only seen the original with Shirley Temple such a great film
well in the book, it is not an aunt, it is her boarding school headmistress, Miss Minchin
miss minchin is one of those dickensian kind of character names that carries an accurate feel or suggestion of what the character is like
boarding school yes correct my fault
kind of does doesn't it hurshy which was probably done on purpose
yes, of course it was
:)
I'm surprised Disney never tried a version of A Little Princess. Everyone else did.
the 1995 version, in addition to moving the setting, makes the message "every girl is a princess" rather than "a princess is defined by her character" which is also an appalling change.
But then it took Disney forever to get to the Narnia books.
did anyone ever see the movie Blue Bird?
is the movie a comedy? drama? adventure? romance?
I am not a Shirley Temple fan
i've just found on IMDB that there was a mini-series version in 1986 that a fan of the book has reviewed as being truer to the book! perhaps i shall try to find that to watch!
it was the answer to The Wizard of Oz as Shirley Temple was supposed to play Dorothy instead of Judy Garland
speaking of appalling changes, the Demi Moore version of A Scarlett Letter has Hester Prynne and Rev. Dimmesdale riding off into the sunset to live happily ever after away from these silly Puritans and their judgmental attitude... *shudder*
never saw it, never read it
well don't see it, whatever you do.
Some things just should not be tampered with
that's the most horrific axe job ever done to any book, i think
earlier I was on the phone skimming and thought you said "appealing changes"
agreed molly
changes the meaning a bit
And thank God almighty that Shirley Temple did NOT play Dorothy
any clues for 7s or 8s? ty.
yes, appalling not at all like appealing, lol
yeah I don't think it would have fit, then again maybe It would have been more tailored to her as they were different ages
mkg co 8/70 is a compound word
personally i also am not a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz movie. i mean i like it if i can think of it as just entirely separate from the book, but... the books are much better and quite different.
and Dorothy was SUPPOSED to be like 7, not Judy Garland age
ty mlfan. any clues?
hurshy true
I loved wizard of oz as a kid.. a great film
extension co4 and wa 4/4
well that's an odd one, thanks MLF
yw hurshy
ruru me too
thx, someone earlier said sounds like a man's name and I was struggling to find the man's name
he and his buddy garth have a world
did you see it in the theater, ru? LOL, I kill me.
sounds like wayne homie
yeah, I get that now
morning all
I'm not THAT old
hey, co8 is archaic, what a surprise
howdy, moo
hey hoke
maybe it's analogous to a boatswa4
stuck at 20 left, you'll be there in no time
it is a type of leather, hurshy
clue for the lo8, please?
oh goody, i'm having trouble with Ls so i second that request
to borrow something and what we chase in the grid
L's are not good today. still have 5, I guess lo8 is one.
i have got it!
rendezvous is a lo8 from french
lol, thx ru. where are they getting these?
that one i have definitely heard used, so i feel it's legit
though this one does make some sense
that is a stupid word
i still have 7 L words to go
ty all :)
4 now for me but no ideas
hi bit
2 for me
there's the hawaiian patio/deck
hi MLF ;0
the vine
keep trying lipo over and over for some reason
the hosen, but with an i
the one that sounds like a french king
Dorothy was 10 in the books. Judy Garland was 17 when she played the role.
have all those, just found the alt sp man's name that always trips me up
I will still take Judy Garland over Shirley Temple any day
of course, yeah
2 L left now, 17 total
4 and 65 for me :)
They could do justice to the books now, since special effects are so much better. In the 30's, that is all you got.
well, it's the feminist and progressive attributes of the book that are most prominently missing from the film
3 c's left, everything else open is 2 or less.
4 c's left
now everything is 2 or less
i have all the c words
make that 2
they were all pretty darn normal except CO8 and maybe the ca4/5, actor Dean of Lois & Clark
1 c left!
me too!
but had that one that hursh clued already :)
c's complete
oz great and powerful was done in 2013
yeah, I had both those, so I still have 1 left
7s are ep7, po7, sc7, and... ?
hokie i keep trying lipo too
that's all I have, hurshy
I've really never thought about the Oz books as feminist
hurshy clue the sc7 pls?
glinda was such a powerful character, and the illustrations have her in very different dresses - not pink and poofy
if i don't pass this test today, i'm sc7, MLF
if you don't have sc7, and you have designs on finishing this grid, then you're sc7
it's a pt, mlfan
sc7, past tense of sc5
it's a complete and total clue-a-rama!
yeah Baum was a very strong feminist
quite ahead of his time in that regard!
lol ty hurshy
did you ever find that top S, hokie? i haven't
nope
nor the D
nor the bottom s
well the bottom, if you have sl5/12, did you also past tense it?
nope, thanks
19 left
7 here but soooo stuck
14 here, but very slow
just pulled re6/33 from the recesses of my babble memory
16 left, gotta go
bye moo
What amazes me is how many people think that Wicked is based on the Baum books.
I only thought that because that's what I had read. but have never seen it and haven't read the books.
oh dear me, no!
yeah people got fooled as did i when i first heard about it
the ideas in Wicked are FAR more modern
its an untold story of the two witches, the book is written by Gregory maguire
i don't think anybody could have written wicked at any time in history prior to the 60s
my missing S was another sc7
oooh lemme look
rhymes with stew made with clams
sorry
no probs, saves me time :D
i never mind a clue for non-normal words!
I love it when I try random things and it works
thank you hokie!
hurshy, that re6 should be easy to find but I'm not
ok i got the list for my last 5 - AL6 is weird - Muhammed the boxer + root for words having to do with on foot
re4/5 + the abbreviation for the most northwesterly of the contiguous US states
the two missing Ls were li5/12 and plural, also weird
what do you think my missing D is?
well the one i missed was dj4
that's definitely it
it's not THAT weird but one doesn't naturally think of dj for a beginning
the origin in fantasy of what we now call a genie
it's an arabic lo8! :D
well in the paranormal mystery series I just finished they had an extra letter on the end
10 left
yeah it's spelled many ways, as often happens with words transliterated from a different alphabet
what do you think my missing 2 p's are?
never mind, I'm going to break and take the dog out. TTFN.
I'm going to guess the missing p words are the man's name, since the rest of them are pretty easy
I love how Carla says she is going to break, like Babble is her job : D
fireworks! yay!
whoo hoo marks
good morning, everyone
hi all help with co8 pls saw earlier clue but it did not help me
found the co8
Compound word of sorts, archaic term...sounds like someone who might deal with quantities of firewood, if you know how that's measured
By George, I think she's got it.
Back off break ;). Guess it is man’s names because I don
Don’t see anything like that
sl5 Swedish system of manual training. that is a word you do not see everyday
the second part sounds like a man's name, carla
bbl
Nope, pe words - of course spanish
Now 2 n’s
And n’s are always weird so no chance of you all guessing those
Found ‘em
okay couple minutes before my next call
Found the 2 L’s. 4 total left!
Missing an R, C, H, & J. 2 4’s and 2 5’s. This should be easy.
piece of cake
I have 12 to go...6 of them are 4
Easy peasy for you
maybe
down to 10...but the 2 I found were 4s :0
ha 6?
Japanese terra cotta people

good luck in cluing that carla!
hi nan!
go ahead and give it to me, carla

Happy Canada Day, Happy Canada Day, Saanich
It's alright... it's alright
Happy Canada Day to all northern babblers
Well, hurshy clued it earlier but I don’t rem the exact one. uhhh. Leia’s love interest, then me, then postal abbreviation for NW state
yay google, thanks carla
And I can’t get the plus sign to work on this ipad keyboard
it's also my daughter's bday (11) and my brother's bday (61) and my late aunt's bday (96) (she just died 6 months ago)
ty all!
Wow, happy birthday to all and happy canada day to all
Now if anyone can help with my missing h4 or h5, that’d be great
ty carla
O Canada!
ty ru
top H, Carla?
Yes
hi 4 x3 if that helps
thanks Nan! I have a huge flag draped over the balcony. Very quiet holiday, to be sure.
try an he4 and plural
carla are you thinking of the German greeting
yes -- I put the appropriat icon up, but don't think it is showing other than in my profile
Ok, I only have 2 hi4, thx. Looking now.
(that's my guess, too on the missing h's)
no it's here nan
nan it works for me!
i see it nan
that's good then
Found it, thx
yw carla
Are all the j’s je?
for the 5, maybe missing a past tense?
lo8 = lo4 + wo 4
4x j3 1xji
hi, folks
hi welki
hi welki!
no, hokie - all but one
K, thx
still rockin' the welder's shield and tool belt?
Found it
hah!
2 left! Both 5’s
I got some periodic table facemasks in the mail
do you think that lo 8 is a synonym for forgiven or excused?
No, it is wo4 taken from other languages
for you or your students, harry?
I was asking tongue in cheek, carla
I'd bought them for my students - but they were delayed and I cancelled the order, got a refund, and then they sent these.
They're fewer than I'd ordered - not enough for my students
Ok, still not getting the joke if it was TIC
waht's TIC?
Found my missing R! Now one C5 left
Tongue in Cheek - TIC
sent off an email to you saanich GM
tounge in cheeg
you must have a kid or two old enough for them by now - if they don't think it's too nerdy
*wonders if Hokie's life is all acronyms*
got it ru
yeah - maybe I'll give them out as prizes next year.
a wo 4 (not) likely to be associated with the lo 4
Any acronym I use here is standard internet acronyms. Seain gets it.
sure DC gets it once we all figure out what CHeegs are
LOL
LOL
hah
and tounges
first sc 7 please?
Found my c5 for fireworks! Twas my favorite Radiohead song.
yay carla
No list, but lots of help
ty for the c5. I'm a weirdo too.
Nan, rhymes with clam stew like meal
thanks, carla
HH, what the hell am I doing here?
chrissy hynde does a great version too
ty carla and grats
I love the one that was in that facebook movie too.
didn't see that
Will have to look for chrissy hynde’s. I don’t think there can be a bad version.
i love her voice, especially on that golden oldie, chain gang
she can do no wrong in my book
Well, it was in the trailers for the movie too. It’s like a chorale (?) rendition by Scala and Kolacny Bros
Not sure I realized chain gang was a remake
She had this song Kid which I always loved
*queuing up hynde's creep*
clue for ha 6 please
it sounds japanese, nancy
ep 7 please?
ha6 is Japanese clay figures
ohh, it's really nice - she reminds me a little of lucinda williams in this song
Not going through that again. Google japanese terra cotta people or look through the chat in the last 30-60 min.
nm - found it
Ah, their is that racial/ethnic slur that some people, and ENABLE seem to think is an inoffensive verb.
cana
yep thought that too
sorry
wasn't going to bring it up kaplan. enable doesn't say it's inoffensive - it's just here anyway.
Everyone thinks it’s offensive
*!*~*!* -- couldn't have finished without your help or without lickety
yay nan
Enable doesn’t have thoughts
thanks Carla, got it
Enable doesn't have opinions.
Yw
guess hubby will be home soon -- just started to pour and he should be hitting the 10th hole about now.
He won’t play through the hard stuff?
kap- did you get to the hair salon?
nope -- at least I hope not -- we are trying to avoid getting a chill or anything else that might weaken our immune systems right now.
And the Enable used here is never going to be updated, so all the offensive words will be here every single time they are in the grid.
that makes a world of senses, nan. may yall remain healthy.
39 and stuck.
We are having one of the coldest, wettest summers on record so far. The only good thing about it is that there are no big forest fires.
Exactly. People have thoughts.
thanks, carla, i'd not tried a certain word til you mentioned that.
very wet here where i am.
Keep at it, HH. If I can finish without the list you can
we had just started a drought, and then got 3 days of beautiful thunderstorms
they called them drought-busters
yeah, all my NY and New England friends have mentioned drought, which surprised me. That's rare there, no?
just a mild drought so far, and now it's probably gone.
it happens every several years.
hagd everyone - stay safe :)
be well, nan
bye nan
Bye nan
ty for the encouragement carla - just found 5 more :)
The thing is not that it will appear, because any word can appear. It's the assumptions people have about what it means.
We head some wild thunderstorms bot don't think it compensated for the drought--we hardly had any snow this winter.
30 to go! bbl all
In the all day discussion about je5 the last time it was in the grid, I don't recall anyone saying it was inoffensive. What they said was, it was a word, and therefore will be included in word lists and dictionaries. LIke other racial slurs and sexually offensive words.
That's my recollection as well.
Well, I do remember one person who didn’t think it was offensive but everyone else did.
But yes, the point was, it was a word at some point so it’s on a word list.
I recall someone saying that the word meant something it does not, and that was not offensive. The word does not mean that someone can strike a good bargain. It does not mean that someone is a good negotiator. It means that a certain race is always trying to pay less than they should for something and that is offensive. Again, (I will rephrase) the majority agreed it was offensive.
I guess I was a little taken aback because I hadn't heard that term in about 50 years.
Enable accepts the "N-wo**" too.
The adjective and verb are both offensive. The noun historically is not. It is not a word I use but I don't use the arse word that is not on the list but works for points.
you definitely missed that day then, jmc, because it was an all day long affair and was very recent, like in the last month
well I am more in and out than I used to be. There was a time I didn't miss a day. But life changes
I still recall very fondly being in Babbleland when Obama was first inaugurated and we were all watching it on tv together (I was staffing a shelter for people to come in out of the cold that day) and many Babblers switched their flags to U.S. flags and my heart swelled with pride. . . .
for the U.S. and Babbleland.
Now just Babbleland.
Many people use the word gypped not realizing it is just as offensive. As a matter of fact, gypped was used on one of the early episodes of the TV show "This Is Us".
love my country but not so proud of it right now.
ugh. another wo** I would never use!
Not everyone was happy about Obama being inaugurated. And I will always be proud of my country. It is much more than who is in office.
I understand but that was my story. :)
omg it went on for evvvver
I understand jmcnrick
what did Atalante?
apparently SIlverclaw thinks bgvfffffffffffffffbnnnnnnh is a word
the last day of word angat
hahaha silly cat
it prob means feed me now in Cat
everything means feed me now in cat
or pet me now
or I want to sit exactly where I want to sit
yep thought I was fairly safe with that :D
or you are uncomfortable. be comfortable. *claw*
ah I miss my cat
what colour was he/she?
deep condolences, jmc
she was silver with a dent in her tail and a slash of white on her hip
how beautiful!
it was a while ago but I was just thinking last night this might have been a little less wearying if she were still around.
loki and sily have kept me sane through all this
she got the dent we do no know. she disappeared as a kitten for two days and then showed up in the attic with a complete ring of fur missing from the base of her tail. . . it grew back but never as long as the rest of the fur
kitten adventures
yep mysteries
hi Ata, hi all. I miss my kitty too. It has over 6 years. She was always a great comfort to me
yeah. I had to think when Ata asked her color. My first thought was of my black cat from 30+ years ago!
hi all. still have no 7s or 8s. any clues and stats? ty
co 8/70
lo 8/65
clues please moo
both are compound words...the lo is odd, the co is archaic
lo8 - something you get from another language on a temporary basis ;)
Clue for lo8?
The lo8 I think refers to a something acquired from another language.
co8 perhaps someone who deals with units of firewood
the co8 actually means something entirely different though
Got the lo8!!
Perhaps I should say "borrowed" rather than "acquired".
Oh, good!
it does imply temporary acquisition
They do tend to stick around, though
indeed
got co. but not from clues. ty anyway
clue for the lo 8?
nice mk
The 7's are ep7/32, po7/52 (plural), sc7/52 (rhymes with po6/36), and sc7/52 (applies to light bulbs, among other things).
still 8 left for me
ty
7 now, tx Gillie
yw - I'm done now, having finally got the ji4
oh yeah, that was my last j
currencies are often weird spellings
yeah - I usually remember it as rhyming with the Italian greeting, or at least looking as though it should
Anyway - I'm off. Good luck, everyone
yeah, often miss that too
ep 7/32, pls
there's a 4 letter babble on the end of it
don't see it mool
last word, pls
Well the ep 7/32 only has one other consonant
sorry, it has 2 other consonants
And while it might look like a plural, it's actually a singular, the plural actually replaces the last letter with an i - though it's not in the board
ty mool
thought it was epinaoi, but isn't
yeah, that's the plural
sorry, that's the one I had in my head when I initially clued
5 to go here...tough last few words
ep 7/32, pls
it's the word you put in chat...just change one letter
it's the singular form of that word...
there's also two ways to find it in the grid
ah, worked, ty mool for your patience
no problem at all
still have three 6s to go
oh, there's one
and there's the final l's...strange word
Just found je5...Sure there was an uproar...
You bet Bea. But w4s are w4s and will be included in word lists and dictionaries.
And it isn't the word, it is the way you use it. Or don't use it.
I've whittled it down to 25...Off to check cat traps and fix dinner...See you all tomorrow.
Ep7?
Une, it was clued at 3:15 or so, look back in the chat
you're not eating cats for dinner bea?
i ate salmon, with quinoa and broccoli, for dinner.
ep7 is very greek
ep + not out + two vowels and the letter you would use for a plural word. Many thanks for the previous comment about how it isn't a plural. That was not what I meant by my previous clue.
clista stoma cu dc
should have put this one in efcharistó
einai kalytero anthropo apo ton patera toy...it's the only Greek I know...from "Fringe"
just finished bingeing on Fringe... ;o)
I love that show. Walter Bishop is one of my favorite fictional characters.
yes, I did, too....i had seen about half of it years ago and, for some reason I cannot recall, had not seen the last half....it was fun to binge on it....loved Walter....
i am now bingeing on Haven...
Haven is one I started watching and lost interest in. Let me know how you like it all the way through.
I will....
I am normally a pretty big Stephen King fan, but there are some things of his that I can't get into. The Gunslinger series is a good example.
like you, i have enjoyed some of his stuff but not all....and i think his early writing is not very good, writing wise.....he certainly imrpoved his ability to write over time...
well i am done....had to use a2z for the last two...
That is funny. I liked a lot of his earlier writing. Until he got to the time when his addiction hit (Cujo). Then I liked some of the stuff after he cleaned up.
well i liked the early stories well enough, but the actual writing i thought was a little tedious at times...of course, I tend to read with an imaginary red pencil in my hand... ;o)
Have you read his book "On Writing"?
no, i have heard of it but never read it...
when i worked in the north central part of Maine (very rural), a principal of a tiny k-4 school invited him to a writer's tea, an annual event at the school where kids would share their writings with parents and invited guests.... he accepted as long as it was not publicized....on the day of the event there was no school due to a snow storm....the principal was sure that they had lost their one chance to see him....but the next day, his office called to rescheduled and eventually he attended the tea....i thought that was rather nice of him...
Just passing through with a quick hello. Hope everyone is doing well! :)
hi pini...doing ok here, hope you are, too....
I am, thx Pen...been keeping busy working remotely. You?
i am retired....have been knitting, doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, tai chi on Zoom....just started taking tennis lessons...feeling lucky to be away from the worst of the pandemic...
pen - maine just announced they were allowing visitors with no testing from all kinds of states, but not MA. grrrr
We were trying to rent a house for a couple weeks, but it's going to be tough to get tested
I wish I was retired...still have a few years to go. Suspect I'll be working remotely for the next 3-6 months or so and then maybe start going back to the office. For now, there are just too many people and too many uncertainties. I do need to find some balance in work v personal time tho. We'll see as the summer progresses.
sorry, harry....guess MA has too high an infection rate...
well hang in there, pini....retirement will come....
it's comparable to the other states they are allowing. not sure why they are doing this
thx Pen (just hope it comes after paying off the house!)
my retirement is not too far away
I thought that the rules were relaxed only for VT and NH....not sure though....
just announced today
ny nj ct
sorry to hear HH and hiya ruru
but NOT ma and ri
hallo pini
hi pini.. long time no see
must have to do with infection rates....i don't make the rules .. ;o) ....but i am glad we have had a governor who has been somewhat cautious....
ditto - every time I think I'm going to do better it seems like it gets worse...apologies! You doing well?
yes but as a resident of ME you have to absorb all the complaints :)
the taxes in Maine are too high for me
I'm listing . 28 to go.
true....here's a quote... The exemption, which goes into effect Friday, follows a state review of public health data which shows that the three states have a lower rate of positive tests for the coronavirus than Maine and a similar virus prevalence that continues on a downward trend...
yeah, but looking at the data at ft.com, we've got lower rates, and are on better trends, than some of those others.
so not sure what's going on.
don't know....just know what i read....
Just curious...how much of what you folks read do you believe?
I believe our CDC director in Maine....he's great....
I dunno - I just read sl5/22, and I can't believe it.
had to "cheat" to get that one, harry.... ;o)
he also uses scientific data to support his recommendations...
heading out....goodnight all....
night pen
anybody still around can clue the ha6?
goodnight, harry....

STID!!!
Hi stid.. I’m watching TV while playing; guess that’s not a good idea
hiya Nef :)
Pini!!! And stid!!! On at the same time!
Gosh, it feels like it’s been years ago, now.
It feels like it!! :) How are you doing?
I’m fine, how are you? And stid, how are you?
I'm doing ok...was saying a bit ago that I still have a few years until retirement, but working remotely in the meantime. Keeping busy...
I retired from being paid; now I’m full time free nurse/ caregiver for DH. (His MShas progressed, still walks around with his walker, but he’s impulsive & forgetful.
Awww...I'm sure he's loving all the personal attention and company!
(I need to update my profile I guess).
He still has a sense of humor, & he puts up with me. We’ve been married 45 years now!
Even better when you actually like each other! LOL
True. Like, love, tolerate; they all boil down to being friends too.
A great combination!
Hi folks. Nice to see you, Nef!
Hi ori! How are you?
ep7?
I'm doing fine. How are you? I read below that you are mostly caring for your husband.
Yeah; *we saw the
We saw the neurologist today; things are going wrong with him & now he’s got batteries of tests to do again: MRI’s, sleep-deprived EEG, neuro-psych assessment tests (that takes 4-5 hours alone), etc. I know it’s not all his MS, Iworry about what it might be.
Oh, gosh, Nef...I hope all turns out to be OK...
Me too, but if it doesn’t, I’ll still put up with him! ;)
I should hope so...a little too late to give up now! After all, he's trained; you don't want to start over at this point! *smile*
Gotta git for now...stay safe!! cya next time! :)
Take care of yourself, Pini!
Wow, Nef. You guys have been going through so much.
It’s life, ori. You know how *that* is, right?
Ails
Oops! Sorry.
