glad i picked up groceries yesterday
BUT - the entire city is out of chicken wings! and i was planning on superbowl buffalo wings
not watching the game today
a quiet protest against the sport? or something less noble?
no interest, after buffalo lost. Just lost interest.
i understand. i would have little (or no) interest in football if my husband wasn't such a fan
sometimes I watch the superbowl just to watch football, but too bitter this year
and I'm not a big tom brady fan
i predict you'll tune in, if only to see how the new guy does
what new guy?
mahomes
oh :)
I think he'll do just fine :)
If my kids are watching it I might swing by and have a peek
yes, he'll do fine. better than fine.
Mahomes is not a new guy.
inhalable energy formula - airpep
He led the Chiefs to Superbowl victory last year.
compared to brady, he is
that is relatively new
it's the baby vs the veteran

I hear you IG - he's pulled out some impressive miracles in the past.
wow I just entered "resembling a pontiff" on a whim and it worked!

good idea - meet you at the counter
I've heard that P word. It is a disparaging referral to the Catholic church. But I won't wax on all day about that. : D

help with the E pls
ep 4/5
I have ep4.5
sheesh ty Bea
The snow is falling in huge flakes here. It's supposed to change over to all rain later so that is fine with me.
hope it does that here too
Good luck to your Chiefs, Bea
Thanks. Still not sure about watching?
I'm making guacamole for the game and we have a football shaped cake for dessert tonight. Why are you not sure about watching?
I have not watched any tv since March, 2020.
wow, Bea
Why the TV boycott?
News boycott was part of it. Then I found I could be more productive without watching tv.
I would certainly break that if my favorite team was in the Superbowl. But I guess if you haven't been watching all season it won't matter much.
I'll see what Larry does. I know Mom will have it on.
Larry doesn't watch TV anymore either?
I doesn't watch commercial tv anymore.
I don't watch commercial TV either, but football is the exception. And half the fun of the Superbowl are the commercials.
half the fun? I've only been watching the ads for years
is this the 4th grid in a row with the q?
I think so.
Odd.
yeah, I should know all the words today
But can you find them carla?
probably not
With some help you will.
Just plural half of them and you should get them all.
bea, we got a dusting of snow last night
We just have rain.
We have heavy snow here in the Buffalo area. I will cross-country ski again today.
I bet MLFAN got some since she is north of me
nice, scrabbs! sounds like a good workout.
The snowband from Lake Erie hit up north yesterday so my mother, sister, and cousin got 10+ inches.
I will have to check in with my mom. she was supposed to get some too. I looked at the ra5 when it was snowing here, and according to that it was not snowing here or at my mom's but every point in between.
How often do you get snow?
and yes, I had to double check ra5 was in the grid before I typed it because I couldn't see it but felt it might be there.
maybe once a year. I don't think we had any last year.
TY for the clue.
but I wouldn't really count this one
I wonder how many days it's been since that thunderstorm. supposedly in the south if it thunders in winter it will snow 8 or 9 days later. I can't rem. the exact thing.
don't forget the so5 related to the ra5
TY. I am working on the Q.
I am still on 1st row but keep getting distracted by other ones
ty cosmo i havent found it yet just got back to grid
got it
hokie yes we got a little snow
I figured so.
and when i got up it was either rain or sleet but probably rain
did you and bzz get rain?
my son at college (but only 15 min away) did not get any
we had a little snow last night at bedtime, still left on the roofs and a teeny bit on the grass.
yeah must have snowed after we went to bed last night as i think hubby woke up and it was on the ground
15 minutes away and didnt get anything?
that's what he says
and I have friends downtown that said they didn't get any either
weird
normally I-85 is like the cutoff for snow
didnt know that
just how it works out with the temps

Oh you are referring to the an word. I thought you were referring to an O word. The chat is moving too fast.
i have heard of Celebes
where is it? (I know I can google)
it's a group of islands near indonesia
this grid is suddenly very very difficult
well, they have an endangered buffalo there
121 left here :D
Oh, but it's so much effort to click on a new tab and laboriously type in whole words
I actually did google it and came back and he'd already answered
i iwll be back...
despite learning all the Q words the last 3 days I can only find 6
I mean 8
I was just thinking the qs are getting quite a workout! At lease todays are normal!
sora
ouch! Sorry!
just pretend you were typing sorta, after your q comment
love it when the longest word is normal and comes from the first tile, really starts me off with a good feeling
well, I guess I should look harder at that one then. unless your first tile was not the R.
it's THE first tile, not MY first tile, meaning, it is the first tile for everyone :D
but what if someone starts in the bottom right like a monster
this is a game of english words, so, one proceeds as english proceeds, left to right, top to bottom
i can't help you with other monsters, but i assure you that i am no such fiend
ok
Rs Routed!
is the 9 part of a set?
8/9 yeah
missing 4 R's from there, so I guess that's 2 of them
Ts Toppled!
phantom: potpie

somebody said the ra8/9 i think it is is obvious?
i mean, it's a normal word
it's twisty, so not obvious in THAT sense i guess?
hurshy combo word?
no
related to any of the 6's or 5's?
def not obvious
only very loosely related
i thought it might be related to ra6 but not the right endings
almost asked for stat for the left i and then saw it. I am it.
Qs Quelled!
yes i feel like one hokie as i didnt see it at first either lol

the last part is like water coming into the shore.

similar to what people in the country have when they aren't on a sewer line
i dont have a pe 6/7

looked it up, but thanks
So much better than my clue!
that was my last -- hagd everyone and stay safe. Looked up the def. which makes me wonder is their something wrong with the word "porridge"?
Your clue was fine Champ
a ptisan was supposed to have a healing (medicinal) effect; whereas porridge is more like oatmeal, a filling substance (usually for breakfast).
Oh, okay, well we will just post words in the grid now.
Molly, I just wanted to answer cybernan's question, I wasn't trying to be snide, or rude. I first ran across the word ptisan and another word tisane in some 19th century novels (either Jane Austin or Alfred Lord Tennyson) back in high school & have remembered those 2 words ever since; probably just because they were so weird. I actually had to look up the definition of porridge because I didn't know what it actually was even though it's been in so many nursery rhymes that I've said or sung to my kids and grandson so many times.
hello.nef
piso
That's okay Nef. No one said you were snide or rude.
Good afternoon, my Babble friends. ;)
Hi Crossy, how are things in frozen Canada these days?
Doing well, Nancy. Bit chilly at minus 14C, but not complaining as my Edmonton friends are minus 30C and below with the windchill today.
And our neighbours to the south of us (NY and New England) are totally hogging all the fine snow....
Our cross-country trails are in great shape, as we have lots of snow, but our local ski hills are shut down until COVID eases somewhat.
As a country, we are not proud of our vaccine rollout to date. :(
My two youngest grandsons are taking skiing lessons and at 10 and 7 years old, they are amazing. My son sends me videos that just blow me away.
Yep. :) Kids pick it up so quick. :)
Well I live in Florida (Melbourne area) and our governor is terrible. He is playing games with the vaccines and people are just fed up. Near to impossible at present time to get the vaccine.
Best case scenario with me as a 57 year old male with asthma that works in the food service industry is that I will get my first dose sometime in June or July. :(
Geez Louise, that is worse than it is here.
Unless other vaccine distributors come online in the interim (there are two pending)
That's sad. Here in Washington state, the farmworkers who work the fields aren't getting vaccinations yet, even though the COVID rates there are sky high.
I see that will probably happen but I would prefer the ones that have a 95% to J and J with a lower percentage
Our big box store takes care of up to 3000 customers per day--none of whom are temp checked before they are allowed in. we are capped at 25% store capacity, but that still means we are letting in 100 customers at a time. :(
Seeing as how we take care of everyones food, we would be somewhat higher in the pecking order for a shot. :(
I haven't been in a building of any sort except for some eye surgery since March. Man, I miss grocery shopping? But I go with pickup or delivery. But it seems obvious to me that grocery workers ought to be at the front of the line.
Then again our percentage of eledery for our province is quite high
Not the front, but right after medical people and the elderly would be nice. :/
We head in and play Russian roulette every day. We have not stopped for a single day since COVID first became known.
Well, some of us elderly are able to maintain social distancing. As much as I'd love to get the shot now, I'm okay with waiting while those more at risk get it.
Yes, we are making sure those in greater need are taken care of, but our government really fumbled the vaccine rollout.
Seattle just passed a 4 dollar hazard pay increase for grocery workers. I suspect most would trade that for a vaccine
WE had a two dollar an hour bump for last March and April, but they stopped it after that.
Now, we get a 20% in-store discount once a month. :/
Our priorities as a society seem perverse at times. We're allowing casinos to be open, but not schools.
Stay as safe as you can, Crossie...these days I'm double-masking when I have a medical appointment.
Yup, I have a good supply of masks, and observe 6-foot distancing as best I can though customers invade that space with frustrating regularity.) Another plus is mask compliance in my area is pretty much as 100%.

You give the bestest clues, Jan. :)
*off to the penalty box, masked of course*
Hello to my fellow babblers! How are U all doing tonight?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers!Way to go
Hey Min et al!!
Hi Une. Et al disappeared.
Hi MollyL! How are you doing? Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
Hello again. We were having trouble getting CBS on Comcast to watch the game. Anyone else having problems?
anybody can clue the an6?
hi all
hi Nef - been watching on Youtube TV without issues
the two seconds I watched it on my antennae tv with no problem
We’re watching the game on a small TV in our den; this TV just has an antenna & works fine.
hahaha I tried antenna
I stream amazon prime from Nov to Dec; Netflix from Jan to March and then what ever looks interesting and cheap the next two quarters. I find the antennae is usually more than enoug tv for me
an + most of a word that means a morphine derivative.
thanks Molly!
Hello dan2bit, jmcnrick and Nef. How are U doing today.
Name that proper noun: Character in The Game of Thrones.
Hello origami! How are you doing?Welcome to the puzzle
Hi Min
Well, thank you, Min. How are you?
Hi Nef!
i watch twitch or youtube. and its too much tv
Hi ori
Hello Nef! How are you doing today? Welcome to the grid
back again. . . hi all
I’m doing okay; how about you?
I am doing well origami. Go back to work tomorrow after working from home last week.Glad you are well origami.
I am doing well Nef. Glad to be out of quarantine finally.
Hi jmcnrick. I was watching the half time show & have to say I was underwhelmed. I wish they’d go back to marching bands or something that would at least make sense.
Yay for freedom, Min!
might as well . . . I haven't watched in a couple of years
quarantine? bummer
the boy was in quarantine when he first got to Ireland. Even since then he is pretty shut done with all the pubs closed.
Poor kid! What’s he doing in Ireland, jmc?
grad school. . . of course it has not been the experience he dreamed of
but he is moving from the small Irish town he has been in since Sept to Dublin this week so even with shut downs it will be better.
I can imagine ; but is he doing well in grad school?
he is. he has been making Bs and B+s which in non-US terms is amazing.
Good for him! ( Maybe the pubs being closed helps?
He really seems to enjoy the reading and writing and he got hired to teach the freshman at school.
haha no pubs are less bars than community in Ireland.
And he originally was going to write a masters thesis on the effect of the pandemic and minimum wage on pub workers.
since they kept getting closed he changed his masters thesis to the effect of pandemic on musicians--his former roommate ran a recording studio in their house so he know a lot of musicians.
Well that won’t work very well for a thesis then.
i was going to use bartending to put me through uni, but the pandemic happened. the work i ordinarily o will take all my time. i hope it goest away soon
The pub idea, but the effect on musicians will.
oh poor atlKru that is rough. . . I worked my way through college (when it was a lot cheaper) casting horoscopes, being a barmaid, and mending clothes for fellow students. it was rough
Yeah. The biggest problem with the musicians is they are in California and he is in Ireland so to the timing is fun! But the musicians stay up late so He can talk to them from early the next morning in Ireland.
Time over distance is weird.
at least tech is better these days. i hope it all works out for him
I wish you luck AtlKru. My boy graduated Uni in 2008 which was a ridiculous year with no jobs.
He is going to class on line, of course! hahaha like everyone else. But of course he wanted to school in Ireland in part for the experience.
yeah thats a major disappointment for him. i prefer learning in person and to go elsewhere makes the experience so much more fulfilling
exactly. but life goes on
I do feel for him. I hope he’s avoided Covid too.
anyone have a clue for oi5,12?
I haven't met you before AtlKru. Hi ya! I used to come by often and have done meet ups with lots of Babblers over the years.
Yes. He seems to be missing Covid. I got my first shot. Friday I get my second on Friday.
howdy jmcnrick! i come here every once in a while. i normally don't do so hot, but it helps me remember my english
where do you live?
I haven't seen fireworks in years.
Oi5/12 is a frequent babble word
hahahahaha
usa. native english speaker, lol. i know two more languages and learning a 4th
haha
Just circle the high score tile, AtI
wow good for you. I am natural at accents but not languages. My boy takes after his dad and learns languages. Spanish, Chinese, ASL and Arabic
english spanish korean and learning chinese
asl would be cool
ush korean seems impossible. I couldn't even learn thank you. Whenever I travel somewhere I learn please, thank you, tea and bathroom
His dad was deaf, his dad and my boy and I all learned it together.
Those are the most important words, jmc
I totally recommend Hello Chinese
I figure you can point and smile for everything else.
indeed
thanks
I actually gave a speech in Swahili--it was three sentences long
theres a local chinese club. immersive learning face to face (online). i also have a couple of friends from Hong Kong that help
I can stumble along in Mandarin.
i enjoyed our chat. i must be going. i hope you both have a great evening! nice to meet you both
I took Chinese in the dark ages when I was in college (1971) and more recently from the Confucius institute (the tool of the Chinese goverenment)
Ta AtlKru. The chat is the best part of Babble.
Good night AtIkru
Chat is the best part of Babble.
:)
well I am off to bed. . . things to do tomorrow. Nice to see you Nef. I often think about what wonderful people (even the ones I don't always agree with) I know here
Good night jmc. This has been a great place throughout the years; & it still is great chatting with you!
night nef. . . you are a peach
Aww, so are you, jmc
can someone clue the 8's please?
ho 7/8 - a prayer ...
so 7/8 - singing voice
ty
ra 8/9 - old heating device.. Begins like NOT TV + ends like similar to crocodile
op 7/8 -- op + apple **e + not a hatchback, but a se*** i dont know the meaning of this word, so not sure how else to clue it
ty
that op7/8 is an obsolete word. surprise, surprise. it did mean a town dweller or a student who attended a traditional english school, such as Eton.
