Clues are up
thanks, Lickety
Thanks, Lickety and hi all
Panther
the problem with panther is that there is no H and no E in the correct spot :):)
wa 8, nbt, nbs
thanks, rainiqui.
thought that was a proper noun -- ty - - also nbt, nbs
so did I, nan
be7
It's also used to refer to similar events
good night everyone - 25 for tomorrow
You're welcome Freep !
You're welcome Nan !
ty rain and freep - don't think I've seen that be7 before
nbt, nbs, and 14 left for tomorrow - good night everyone
yw. I didn't really know the word, but Babble has taught me to add be before everything. That way I can befull my belist and bedone!
Following on discussion of wa 8 - who remembers the late 1950's song? Stonewall Jackson? Now I am really showing my age! Great foot tapper song.
nope dofith - i would have to go with ABBA
hint for lone E last column? TIA>
ef 6/36
got it! yay! nbt/nbs
Yes, ursh - ABBA as well. Both songs use wa 8 same way, but still surely a proper noun? (ursh, are you even old enough to remember s song from the 1950's?)
dictionary lists it as the name of 3 cities in the world and also as a crushing or decisive defeat
hahaha I am plenty old enough - born in 51
Just a kid! I'm a year older.
Be6/33?
just found it, une. in a state of worry be+f4/7
just found it, une. in a state of worry be+f4/7
Thanks!
and pl
yep
ty for Stonewall Jackson and his wa8 song, and the be6/33, 7/48 "musical" words
effete
oops, sorry. :(
W's walloped!
I chatted with Dr. G once about the possibility or reviving Babble from its "legacyware" state. Imagine, if you will, in addition to the regular 5x5 daily grid, a new 10x10 "weekly grid" of 2000 words or so. This way if the daily is small, we can still get out word fix on the big weekly grid.
Excuse typos.
I am quite sure that all current babblers would offer up a one time donation for that upgrade!
first run through, and 44 left, biab.

Phantom: problem
If only our problems were phantoms. Speaking of which, is Australia EVER going to open it's borders? At the very least to special cases like you?
I would think if students qualify, deprived grandmothers should too.
Te6/21 please.....my last word.....
ends in something you cook in, Une
fw - Bye
Something you fry in Une
Thanks! Fw!!!
Well done Une. Cookies for you.

Well, I had the word before I saw you put it in there...
hi, all
wow, surprised the 8 counts
Howdy, Welki
i am just nwo looking for it
now
Good morning, welki
i only tried it because i always check before doing name that proper noun
something to do with a song or something?
something to do with napoleon
ABBA song
oohhhh
great song too!
And where Napoleon was defeated
i would not have thought that would work either
it is famous enough to have become a byword, so Enable accepts it.
like being "an apollo"... but yeah, i thought even as a byword it was still proper
in this case
should i know both wo words?
yes
ty hurshy
Enable is, and always has been a strange and mysterious thing--accepting that which should be denied, and denying that which is commonplace.
hurshy i was trying to make it more complicated lol
oh but that pr group are such nice words!
seems like the "b" and "p" words are going to be my wa8 :/
are the le 5 and 6 a combo?
Good day to all.
hi cross
i need 2 more p but the ones i have were very do-able
Howdy, scrabby
hi scrabs

WHAT? how is boop not a word
I boop Winston's nose all the time and I say boop when I do it.
exactly
the oldest and I like to see how many in a row before he gets annoyed
rude
that's what he thinks 🤣
with my Rilla, it is kisses that are not her jam. i try to restrain myself as much as i can.
phantom problem
Winston loves kisses. in fact, he gives them to random strangers all the time.
she will lick me, but, my kisses on her head is what she objects to
good morning eveyone -- going to be another scorcher today
Winston is a true golden retriever - an attention whore. So he likes those and he loves hugs. it takes quite a few boops in a row to annoy him.
Same here, nan.
howdy nan
at least we don't have the humidity you get, scrabbs
my Opie also relishes lots of attention
he is Magnificent and he respects those who notice that fact
ok so 7s: fl, pr, st, and...?
72F already and supposed to get to 110F by early afternoon -- think I'll have breakfast and go for my walk now -- later
i think we should try to popularize "toodle pip" as a goodbye more. i feel that it would help the world, because you cannot be a person who says "toodle pip" and also be violent.
BE 6 & 7
hmmm ok
77 here already. I should get out there and hike soon.
hello...clue for the st7 pls
Cooking vessel
it is a think in which you slowly cook something
thing :)

TY
ow5 and 6 were spoken yesterday with friends who have 2 ow6 outside their kitchen window with their mama.
Somehow, I'm not seeing toodle pip catching on
i could use a pointer towards the fl7
broccoli has them
Small pieces of vegetables.
oh.. thanks
Like cauliflower.
Slaps, Ruru with a wet fish.
i am stumped on the be6 & 7
to worry hursy
hursh
BE + irritated.
ahh thanks
I always think of toodle pip as proprietary to Zoom. It's like his signature sign off : D
i associate it mostly with Bertie Wooster
Who is Bertie Wooster?
one of PG Wodehouse's main characters
Jeeves is his valet
Jeeves & Wooster comedy show.
Ah Brit TV. Ho wonder I don't know him
BOOKS first, then Fry & Laurie show
sigh
Yay Hurshy.
Yes Books first. I agree.
Well Hursh, some people only know things from TV
i feel rather unable to relate to such people
Me too.
What are you reading now, hurshy? Recent good reads?
i've been re-reading. first Persuasion and Sense & Sensibility, now The Small House at Allington
Re-reading favorites is always nice.
i just reread Squeeze me.. love that book
i'm down to FPRT, 1-1-2
Rebecca is still one of my favourite books.
never read it
Go Hurshy, go!
Marcel Proust books are my most difficult reads as I do not understand a lot of the words he has used. I am not well educated like that and it takes me an age to keep looking up the words. I am now on book 4 of 6 from this author.
i haven't tried proust or james joyce as i always hear how difficult they are
I'm no longer into difficult anything :D
Rebecca is an excellent read, Ruru. It is by Daphne Du Maurier
Ugh, grade 12, Jame Joyce, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I was clueless.
what is it about zooz?
*James
henry james already bewilders me, not with hard words, but with unclear referents of pronouns
Turn of the Screw. Was that Henry or William James?
henry
williams was more known for psychology, not so much novels
*william
Basically it is about a lady companion who finds herself in love with a well to do man who at some point marries her and the difficulties she has with a different way of life. There is a few twists in the story I will not say as it will spoil the read.
There was a film made of the book but it is rubbish and not worth watching.
so many books don't translate to movies
ugh, scrabbler, is there anything that can be done if one seems to have pulled a muscle in one's shoulder, or is it just a matter of doing one's best not to aggravate it?
From expereience not a lot you can do but give it time.
i overstretched it trying to reach over a COVID divider thingy at school, sigh
it's easier on men to pull a muscle
Ouch! Not nice, Hurshy.
I did not think that was made of muscle, Ruru Hahaha!
Rest and time, hurshy. Ibuprofen or naproxen. What day was the injury?
:D Zooz
idk, several days ago. it's like, sometimes the least little thing i do with that arm hurts it, and i never really know when it's going to happen
it doesn't hurt unless i do something, like smooth out a sheet or something
Zoom gets off a good one (yes, I said gets off)
The first 2 days after an injury are the worst (inflammation) then you will improve. Apply heat.
And Hursh, welcome to the elder years. When you can throw out your back just by sneezing
I passed halfway so that is enough for me. I need to hike at the park.
btw..Hapy national Bingo Day
toodle pip, scrabs!
National
the R was the 5
T was a 6

yes
Napoleon's least favorite place
ah, that's the napolean clue i saw earlier
or Wellington's favourite - depending on you point of view :)
te6 clue pls? i've been monkeying for a while
looking for that one too
how many points in the te 6 shirl?
nm -- ends in a vessel used for frying
aha! i was not using that other vowel, thx cyber
still haven't found that st 6 that is a cooking vessel
compound word, ends same as te6
oh wait that's st7
ty les -- that was the one though -- thought of pot but not that one
2 6's left to find
yw
Im surprised the WA 8 is allowed - thought is was a proper noun. fun word to find, tho
definition has a use for a general crushing defeat
still seems like a stretch though
it has be come generic as when someone is soundly defeated he/she has met their wa 8
makes sense, I guess
anyone want to guess my missing 6's either a p or a b
have the PO 6/33?
that would be one of them -- looking
want a clue, Nan?
please
insert a cons into the 5/20
the word for strength
ty IG
only b6 i have is to use something of someone else's for a while
still missing one 6: have p6 x3 and b6 x3

i figured
I have 4 p6s

good clue, Leslie

yw
lol, I thought about that one a few min ago when I found it but thought surely nan has that. backward and uphill, always trick.
tricky
yes -- was blind to that one
any clues wanted before I sign off for the day?
don't know what I need but thanks
you can do it, carla -- if I can go listless, you certainly can
26 to go, only 3 4s left, so that's not good
lol
do you have the be 6-7, carla?
No, only have 1 7 and 8 6's

phantom terror
I would think pantlet is another word for shorts
and one who boos is obviously a booer
Margery Mason was credited in the Princess Bride as "The Ancient Booer" so that makes it fully legit
see??
I can see that scene right now too. :D
and my dog is a panter, but of course that isn't allowed either
oh, name that cartoon character that only speaks a line or two an episode
a betty?
omg, was talking earlier about how easy it was to miss nan's last B4, and just now found my last F4, which is the same 3 last letters.
nope, these guys always do a big elaborate thing and the one says "I know what we're going to do today". disney channel, my boys were really into it when they were younger.
hello...
hey pen!
hey carla...
I am stuck with 5 left. guess I will have lunch and come back later.
still 40 left here...
oh, the answer to the NTPN if dan is still here is Ferb from Phineas & Ferb
Hi all. One of my favorite Star Trek characters is in the grid today.
Worf.... ;o)
Yes. Of course his buddy Data is often in the grid too.
yes...
Was hunting for my last F for hours, only to finally discover that is it simply cheese. :/
we all spend our lives searching for meaning, to only find out that the meaning of life is simply cheese.
Yum....cheese.
it is all about , chocolate, cheese, or bacon--everything else is secondary.
well cookies are pretty essential.
although they can be lumped in the chocoloate category
:)
My goal in life is to outlive my doctor so I can eat whatever the hell I like. :)
lol
Like George Burns when given trouble for smoking cigars at 90 years of age, he said "What? It's going to shorten my life somehow?"
would you like moist ow5? LOL
that would be a funny scene in Airplane - coming around and passing out moist baby birds.
are they reusable?
LOL yeah it would
I hear a rumor there's an EF6 but I can't find it.
Just got it!
thanks, i would have been forever looking for that with out the stats.
WHO KNEW DC
LOL
I'm cat sitting for a friend. I changed from prescription sunglasses to regular glasses yesterday and cannot find the case with the sunglasses now. Yay ADD+depression. :/
Afternoon everyone
st 6/18, pls
hi, Christa
it looks chemical to me, bichon. ends like aloh--
Could I please get a clue for the t6?
Never mind. Found it.
ty dc fw
I manage to miss that ET4,4 almost every day.
rehi - 3 left, 2 5's and 1 6, 2 B's and 1 P
FW for me. I listed w/ 23 left. Do you need some clues, carla?
pretty sure I have all the P6's, meaning it's a 5 and a B5 and 6. is there a B5/6 combo?
yes, there's a BE5/6
regular word or something ridiculous?
there are five5 PA5s
two PO5s
ok, missing a PA
and two PR5s.
the BE5,6 is something I've very vaguely heard of, but pretty uncommon.
The be5/6 are just nuts
well, that makes me feel somewhat better
does that mean actual nuts or you are confirming they are ridiculous
right, they are nuts. That's why they sounded vaguely familiar.
which PA5s do you have? There's one plural, and a word I associate with bread but the dict says it's fabric.
Then there's dad, and a word that might describe a kitty, and then a babblet
I have 2 5/12 and 2 5/20
You're missing a 5,12 then. Clues below.
The whole chat is basically a clue fest these days
maybe the babblet but I think your definition is different than mine 😜
you're right, I should just go to the list
could be. it's a word that someone who's Catholic might be familiar with.
I thought that was the father one
oh, they are related. it was the metal plate one, which I always get. not sure why I couldn't see it today.
the 3 5,12s are the metal plate, dad, and the bread
could've sworn I tried that be5. oh well.
Can have a clue for the wa8? It is probably obvious but I am just not seeing it.
well it's a proper noun that got turned into a common noun - think napoleon
and ABBA
thanks hokie. It was so obvious when I finally saw it.
That is fireworks for me
Does anyone need cryptic clues to drive them nuts?
Nice offer, wht. Could you throw in some obscure pop culture reference while you're at it?
12 left, and down to the final grind. :)
are you calling ABBA obscure??
that was their breakout song, they won some european contest with it.
Now I have a certain song going through my head.
Just don't play "Nina, Pretty ballerina."
You are evil :)
:)
yeah, the certain song is stuck in my head today
Ru would call ABBA worse than obscure
helpwith the e in the last column?
ef 6/36....uses a double consonant...
Good clue, without just blurting it, Pen
ty....i try to minimize....don't know eieios very well....
