Good work, IG. I am diving in.

Have fun, Scrab!

5:47 am

Almost always.

gm iggy

6:27 am

Hi French

gm scrabs!

have you seen any Delta variant in your area? None at my workplace, it's a Rehab facility with mostly elderly patients.

6:29 am

It just hit this week. 8 cases in our practice in the last 3 days. It's here.

oh damn

6:30 am

Presumably Delta as 83% of cases int he US this week are Delta.

egret

oops

6:30 am

I have it.

haha good!

omg Ron Popeil has passed away... no more Veg-a-matic or Fishin Magician!

6:32 am

I must get ready for work. :-( On call too.

bye scrabs, nice to *see* you

7:19 am

currage: when you're really brave and try some very spicy Indian food

7:52 am

That could have landed you in the PB, Harry.

8:09 am

It is kind of a double PB violation. We'll cut him some slack due to the gout

8:15 am

He has gout?

8:25 am

ooh, I got the 8. That always makes me feel accomplished

8:26 am

i agree mael

8:28 am

Wait! I have missed a lot. MLF has an icon!?

8:31 am

i do?

8:31 am

Looks like a beaver?

8:32 am

i dont know what the last thing was i put there but i still see a back square

8:33 am

It's not black any more from here.

8:34 am

it's an otter, I think

8:34 am

that is weird

8:34 am

and otter with a motto

8:34 am

It says "every time I try to see things your way I get a headache"

8:34 am

Still black to me until you click on it

8:35 am

ohh i do see it when i click on it i cant read it though lol

8:35 am

first for that happening

8:35 am

CNTRL + F5 you have to hard refresh to see new icons

8:35 am

LOL! That's a great motto.

8:36 am

Only MLF could get a new icon and not know how

8:36 am

what does that do molly?

8:36 am

IKTR

8:36 am

ty bzz

so, mlfan has an icon, harry has gout, and moo has disappeared?

8:37 am

I don't have F keys

8:37 am

Like I said, its a hard refresh

8:37 am

gout?

8:37 am

If you are on a Macintosh, hard refresh however you do it on those things

8:38 am

i have the f keys but i am using an acer

8:38 am

no...a chrome book

my profile may or may not have the proper way to do it on a Mac

8:39 am

i miss my Mac

8:39 am

what browser are you using? that's the important part

8:40 am

it's the browser you have to refresh, not the computer

8:40 am

ty mael

8:41 am

2nd column bottom e stats pls?

8:41 am

Well then do a Google search on "hard refresh on a Chrome Book"

8:41 am

I'm guessing she is using Chrome is she is on a Chrome Book

8:41 am

yes i have chrome

8:42 am

We are talking about Phaeton

8:42 am

acer computer

8:42 am

Those e's are eg4.6 and 5.14

8:42 am

oh

8:42 am

😁

8:42 am

i have an eg4 already

8:43 am

Chrome, Firefox, or Edge for Windows: Press Ctrl+F5 (If that doesn’t work, try Shift+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R).

8:43 am

there you go

pshaw, no churros

8:43 am

since you don't have F5 you should try Ctrl+Shift+R

8:43 am

If you have a RELOAD button, CNTRL + RELOAD works like CNTRL + F5

8:44 am

hokie its a 5 not a 6

8:44 am

There are two eg4

8:44 am

ty mael

8:44 am

CNTRL/SHIFT/R works

8:44 am

I have the eg5 from the bottom e...stats for the other e from that e?

8:45 am

eg4/6

8:45 am

phae is the eg5 something i would know?

8:46 am

it's a bird

8:46 am

the eg5 I mean, not the eg4

8:46 am

so, mlfan has an icon, harry has gout, and moo has disappeared?...turnabout, gout and out

8:46 am

oh duh ty

8:46 am

my eg4/6 came from the other E

8:46 am

It's a plane, it's superman

8:47 am

ahhh...got it

8:48 am

nbt

8:48 am

there's another eg4

8:49 am

Namaste

8:54 am

i dont click on my info that often so i am amazed someone can see a pic there. how would i know if i dont look right?👍😜

9:18 am

Okay, I've just busted the myth that dictionary.com is the source for this game:

9:19 am

"churro"

9:19 am

crag

9:19 am

rage

9:19 am

sorry

9:27 am

hahaha, i missed the c word, thx for the freebie

9:28 am

dictionary.com is the dictionary used for definitions in this game. The Enable Word List is the source of the approved words.

9:34 am

"churros" is in that list though but not accepted here. (unless I'm looking at the wrong thing)

9:35 am

good morning everyone :)

9:36 am

enable is so arbitrary

9:43 am

i have the L6 would that is a pl i need a clue for the other L 6 word pls?

9:44 am

thanks!

1:09 pm

the city on the italian riviera is Genoa, which always weirds me out as a spelling because why did English decide it didn't need a V?

1:20 pm

clue for sa 6,18 please

1:26 pm

sorry dont have that one

1:33 pm

sa6/18 starts with the first three of the plastic wrap and ends with the last three of not a Congressman

1:36 pm

Never seen the Italian city spelled with a V. English changes a lot of foreign words. Italian words are not unique.

good clue Moll, ty

alas, no churros....

1:54 pm

I mean, I know English changes the spelling of everything. All languages change the spelling of most place names. But GenoVa to Genoa is an odd elision, it's not like English took away the V in Geneva.

1:56 pm

but then again, in Italian London is Londra so we have no leg to stand on

1:57 pm

Sometimes it is as simple as the misspelling of a map maker that stuck. There is no sense to be made of it. Talk to all the Johannsens who became Johnsons at Ellis Island.

1:58 pm

it

1:59 pm

for genoa it's more likely that it came from the latin than a misspelling, where the English still used the "older" spelling that the Italians themselves had abandoned. It's just fascinating though.

turin/torino

2:09 pm

Venice/Venezia, Naples/Napoli, Florence/Firenze there's a million of them, but it's really cool to try to figure out how the name changed

2:10 pm

because a lot of the time is doesn't follow the "rules" for transliterating between languages the way non-place names do

4:29 pm

In Latin, it's Genua, and according to Wikipedia, that's what it was historically in English.

4:29 pm

(Oops - been a while since that conversation)

4:33 pm

So many examples of beautiful Gaelic place names bastardised by English in this part of the world. For example, there is a county in the extreme north west of this island called Donegal. (Pronounced Dunnygaul). The actual Irish name is Dún na nGall - Fort of the French. Irishplace names & how they came about is a hobby of mine.

4:41 pm

Also - many Irish place names start with ‘Bally’ or ‘Ball’ The Irish word for town is ‘baile’,pronounced bollya. When this country was occupied, the British couldn’t get their heads/tongues around the Irish pronunciation of placenames, so they got distorted.

4:42 pm

So ends todays history lesson.

4:43 pm

thanks Soodle turns out I am about 40 percent Irish so I love to hear about things like this

4:43 pm

Pronouncing Irish names can definitely be a problem for us non-Irish. Even some British names seem to be pretty strange.

4:46 pm

I was touring in Germany years ago with a choir, and our hosts were telling us about their vacation in Hungary, but we were having trouble understanding. I don't remember how Hungary is said in German, but it was similar enough to the French that I suggested it.

4:47 pm

It wasn't the only time that knowing French turned out to be helpful in Germany.

4:49 pm

And more recently, the chorus I sing with now was working on a setting of a number of poems from World War I, including one in German that included a lot of French place names (including one that no longer exists). We had quite a lively discussion about pronunciation.

4:49 pm

I am from Texas we mispronounce a lot of things, I took four years of french dont remember much but do know it was hard for me to pronouce somethings with a Texas accent lol

hello all. just off the phone with another off shore agent for an alledgedly all american company. neither of us could understand the other.

5:09 pm

Irish TV had to subtitle their interview.... for Irish viewers!!

they have never seen a confirmed large tornado with a detectable debris field here , ever

it's like something you'd see in oklahoma

5:13 pm

they are telling us to expect possible blackouts next week here in Texas expecting big storms

5:14 pm

Stay safe TO. Crikey. Covid, wildfires... what next? The 4 horsemen of the Apocolypse?
