Hi nan - I'm sure you must have heard about the more than 200 cats surrendered by a man in Houston, BC. But that's probably a bit too far away too.
(Also, sounds like they're mostly quite young - a lot of kittens.)
the problem here is that the spca won't hold a cat until you can arrive to see it. So you could drive for 3 hours just to find that the cat has been adopted by someone else. That pretty much keeps me local and I haven't seen any here that I want.

The last time I got cats my brother and I went to the local Humane Society thinking maybe we could get two siblings. Instead we got two unrelated youngish females who never did get on, although one of them was able to establish herself as the boss after a while.
They also had one male kitten still with its mother, but the mother looked like she would be happy to see him go.
