7:15 am

hello all

7:34 am

hello aslindy, hello all

7:41 am

As usual, there are some really weird words in this one.

yeah,already not liking it

have looked at 2 tiles

8:05 am

tough grid and kinda boring

8:07 am

yuck....hello all....

8:07 am

FW, had to list for the last three or four very stupid 6s

pen! was just thinking about you because I saw your state.

8:08 am

carla!....first thing I saw, too....

well done, mael

phantom dotage

oh, but I found an 8

8:11 am

yes, not too bad there....

almost potpie (I only see that word when it's not actually here)

8:20 am

same here...

8:23 am

Name that Proper Noun: we are all waiting for him!

godot

8:25 am

Very excellent!!! You win a pair of boots and a picnic basket!

mr. homie & I went and saw that in college on our first date. we both thought it was pretty terrible.

8:29 am

phantom: stoppage...

NTPN - wolfgang puck restaurant (and yes, I had to google what it actually was. just knew the word)

HOET but still 39 left after first pass

8:30 am

no idea...

8:33 am

Spago...Ru should have been here for that one

was waiting for you to jump in with it before I revealed the answer

✅✅✅

8:34 am

Not that I have ever eaten there. I just know of it from the well to do who can afford it.

we have some snow coming down

not supposed to amount to anything

8:36 am

It is supposed to snow south of us, but not here. Good. We have had enough snow. And enough freakishly cold weather too.

8:37 am

upper R, anyone have it?

ru5

monkeyed it out of the blue

8:38 am

And by the way, I second your opinion that Waiting for Godot is an awful play.

8:38 am

same here....am i supposed to know the Y words?

8:38 am

Doubtful

I have ya4

8:39 am

that's what i thought...

also monkeyed that

8:39 am

ty...got it...

8:39 am

And ya6

8:39 am

we read it senior year in high school, and we all kept making fun of it. our teacher kept valiantly trying to make us appreciate it and we just kept mocking it, she never could make us come around.

that's good to know it wasn't just us 🤣

8:39 am

Not many get into existential stuff like that

8:40 am

Isnt gouda a cheese?????why isnt it in this grid?

thought maybe we just weren't old enough then, but now it seems like it really is awful

8:40 am

mkg...it's a proper noun...a city...

mkg, some cheeses are allowed, some aren't. that is the nature of the enable list.

8:41 am

Because Gouda is the name of the city the cheese is named after. Oh boy, can't wait until clues for the 8 are asked for 🙄🙄🙄

8:41 am

i suppose it's like how realtor doesn't count in enable because it's trademarked

but how many other proper nouns are allowed because of something from there. a lot.

8:42 am

Depends on how it has come to be used, or the amount of common usage. Like the word curie, both a name and something the person is named after.

how many points on that ya6?

8:42 am

27

8:42 am

thanks molly

still not doing a lot for me, but thanks

8:43 am

found an ou7!

8:43 am

there are two...

8:43 am

You might as well start randomly typing Carla. It's a plant I have never heard of.

8:44 am

yeah i figured there could be, still monkeying

8:44 am

aHA! second row grey!

8:44 am

found the Y....never heard of it either...

I still need 1 O and that Y

8:44 am

we have had the ya6 before, tho not often

8:44 am

ya6 ends with spanish aunt

ha, just tried it with spanish uncle

are all 4 O's there ou?

8:45 am

no, one is og4

of course, and I had the ag

8:46 am

8:50 am

10:14 am

I know your g's go6/30 and gi6/27

10:14 am

your p is probably pi6/30

10:15 am

you might have to back into the two so 5/6 words :D

10:17 am

10:24 am

10:25 am

your other missing s is se6 plant biology

10:26 am

no, have that one

10:26 am

maybe sp6 the water faucet?

10:27 am

Is it the sp6 that looks downright dirty right under the so6

10:28 am

have the water faucet

10:30 am

all the other s's are easy then

10:30 am

think I will just list

10:30 am

sp5 you have?

10:30 am

10:31 am

10:33 am

we've had it before

10:34 am

10:34 am

10:34 am

the p5?

10:34 am

no definition

10:35 am

you need p5? it's a shortened version of the 6

10:36 am

no, I don't need it now, that was my missing one that I thought you were calling a common babblet

10:36 am

I thought my gomorah clues were cute

10:36 am

no ifs nor butts

10:37 am

exactly mool ;D

10:37 am

that's my anal-ysis of it anyway

10:37 am

it got hookie over the hump though

10:37 am

currently unable to monkey my A but will go back to it

10:38 am

10:38 am

4-2-5-1-1

10:38 am

10:39 am

10:40 am

Sounds like a personal problem

10:41 am

10:41 am

I looked up the first one. have seen it here before but didn't know what it means.

10:42 am

don't think I've ever read that, but thanks anyway. will look it up.

10:42 am

a person who doesn't believe in allah

10:43 am

11:15 am

2-2-4-1-1

11:24 am

Good afternoon, Babblers. :)

11:25 am

Interesting pt 7 and pt8. Was easy to find--for a change. :)

11:28 am

...which usually means the rest will be totally evil. :/

11:33 am

right on all counts

11:37 am

Today would be a good day to curl up under a blanket and sleep all afternoon.

11:38 am

)))))))

11:39 am

right again

11:51 am

6 degrees here right now

11:51 am

sunny though

12:07 pm

our snow turned to a mix that looks mostly rain

12:08 pm

thanks for the pt clue too crossy

12:08 pm

We are getting a goodly pile of snow.

12:09 pm

omg, I got a word before moo

12:10 pm

A goodly pile? Is that like a goodish pile?

12:10 pm

the youngest had his group of besties from HS (I'm sure they don't call each other that) coming for the weekend today. he was worried they might not make it through that, bea.

12:11 pm

Goodly is more than goodish.

12:11 pm

goodly is a right good amount

12:12 pm

When are they leaving, Carla?

12:12 pm

I think he said today

12:12 pm

staying for the weekend

12:12 pm

I think it is only freezing rain in Raleigh.

12:12 pm

That would be worse than snow.

12:14 pm

yep

12:14 pm

I think one is coming from VA north of you, so he might have trouble

12:15 pm

Icy down through Wilmington.

12:19 pm

Namaste

12:19 pm

I think 2 are coming from Wilmington

12:19 pm

12:30 pm

YAY GOD !!!!!!- my number 2 daughter-is in recovery--an aortic valve replacement!!!!

12:30 pm

You always get words before me hoke :)

12:35 pm

12:35 pm

Happy news, sammysmom!

12:36 pm

hope she has a speedy recovery, smom

12:36 pm

but moo, I found these words without getting spoiled

12:38 pm

thank you babies........... i used to think that when the kids were grown, i coild stop worrying about them.............. not so,.... just bigger problems.

12:40 pm

ow for a break. i can go back to talking to GOD..... THANKING INSTEAD,OF BEGGING!!

12:41 pm

Very good hoke, will admit pt words are not ones I ever really look for

12:41 pm

nor the couple of ct words that are out there

12:42 pm

M A A O SS R left

12:42 pm

2-2-3

12:46 pm

hello everyone :)

12:47 pm

I hope all of you have your vaccinations up to date -- read this morning that all covid vaccines are being banned in the states -- what will be next?

12:47 pm

hey nan

12:49 pm

ever see the moving idiocracy?

12:50 pm

how's the tearing down of inter-provincial trade barriers going?

12:51 pm

no more on wine which is good news for us

12:52 pm

fun place to start :)

12:52 pm

I suspect this'll mean less revenue for each of the provincial governments though

12:52 pm

interesting how booze is one of the first places it starts -- american booze was the first thing to come off our liquor store shelves

12:54 pm

yeah, that is an interesting way to start it off, but probably one that is easier to some extent

12:54 pm

not for the producers though -- they will sell more now that other provinces don't have to charge the extra tax.

12:55 pm

well yeah, should see them either make more profit, or see the prices go down, or a bit of both. But the run on effect is that the province will need to cut spending, or raise taxes elsewhere

12:55 pm

That's the challenge with taxes...especially specialty/niche ones, as opposed to broad-based ones

12:55 pm

they will also collect more tax from the producers' increased profit margin.

12:56 pm

well the home provinces of the producers might see a small uptick for sure

12:56 pm

I mean it makes sense to remove the barriers, but there'll need to be some rebalancing of books so to speak

12:57 pm

and some local producers may find they are no longer competitive too

12:57 pm

BC only has a few big commercial wineries - we have mostly estate and farm gate wineries.

12:57 pm

protectionism of any kind (including tariffs) just leads to inefficient, less competitive companies

12:59 pm

Is BC amongst the bigger wine producers in CA?

1:00 pm

I'm thiking there must be a lot of babblets and new words in this one - not getting very far

1:12 pm

Canada's inter-provincial barriers are mostly regulatory - not tariffs

1:13 pm

so less about taxes and more about extra process Gillie?

had to read that two or three times to realize meant Canada and not California, moo🤣

1:13 pm

oh yeah...CA is it's own beast :)

1:14 pm

CA - California that is, versus CA - Canada

I was like is he asking if BC is in CAlif?

1:14 pm

BC and Ontario are the biggest.

1:18 pm

According to very recent headlines (e.g. hours ago), B.C. wineries are "pushing for removal of inter-provincial trade barriers" - it's definitely not happened yet

1:19 pm

oh - I thought it had gone through

1:20 pm

I know that some of our VQA wines are sold in private liquor stores in AB

1:21 pm

Well, apparently Ontario and Quebec are the worst provinces for controlling alcohol

1:21 pm

(based on a brief google search, that is)

1:22 pm

It's all at the provincial level, so each province would need to make changes

1:24 pm

well at least the provincial governments have more incentive to make it happen now.

1:25 pm

how is it that we can have brie but not gouda?

1:27 pm

Does Canada make gouda? - I think maybe that has more to do with federal controls on cheese from Europe

1:28 pm

I was talking about words accepted by enable. But yes - there is a dairy farm in Armstrong, BC that makes a very good gouda

1:29 pm

oh - lol - actually there is apparently gouda made in Alberta too

1:49 pm

to

1:54 pm

6 left - 1 x5, 5 x6

1:54 pm

did that backwards: 5 x1, 6 x5

1:59 pm

not seeing any of them -- so I'm done

2:30 pm

hello again -- any americans here? I have a question after reading the news (big mistake). Do executive orders have to be ratified by one branch of the govrenment or other before they become law?

2:31 pm

Don't know. It would seem that you should avoid the US news since it distresses you so much.

2:32 pm

I don't think they do though. Hence "executive order".

2:32 pm

nan, executive orders don't carry much weight. Congress is the only place where laws can get passed. The shorthand for our Constitution is, Congress makes the laws. The Executive Branch enforces the laws. The Supreme Court interprets the laws. None of that means the current president is paying attention to the Constitution.

2:34 pm

They carry the weight of the president. And of course if they aren't legal, will be overturned or stopped however that happens.

2:34 pm

Maybe "carries out the law" instead of "enforces" would be better said.

2:39 pm

pt8? oh for goodness sake!

2:39 pm

this particular "president" doesn't carry much weight.

2:39 pm

So are you saying that all these executive orders that Trump is signing that would effectively dismantle the government and make himself dictator are worth the paper they are written on?

2:40 pm

For the moment, yes. So far the courts have stepped in and put a 'pause' on most of his orders while they way the legality.

2:40 pm

oops! WEIGH, not way. But adding some humor: Actually Trump weighs a LOT - lololol!

2:41 pm

Ha! I didn't even notice ch1212. He's getting the job done, so far. We'll see how things work out.

2:41 pm

might be that it eventually depends on how much money his sidekick Elonia is willing to throw at whomever it takes to get behind them, I would guess. Or threaten. Whichever it takes.

2:42 pm

ok - that makes me feel a little better. And Champ it would be very irresponsible for Canadians not to pay attention the the US news. What happens in the states ultimately affects us. You have a president who has declared is intention to apply enough economic pressure to try and force us to join the USA and is aligning your country with Russia -- to me this is very concerning.

2:42 pm

getting what job done? destroying America? yeah, doing a fine job of that.

2:44 pm

He doesn't give a crap if you join us or not. He wants a level playing field and is using tariffs as a negotiating tool. I don't see that he's destroying the country. My opinion, and I won't debate it further. This group generally is against his policies and has been completely intolerant of any other view.

2:44 pm

For good reason Champ.

2:44 pm

because any other view means you're backing a criminal lying cheating traitor. Simple as that.

2:45 pm

Do you even hear yourself? I'm not trying to change your opinion at all. You're welcome to it.

2:46 pm

i could use a clue for the 8 though. anyone?

2:46 pm

Do you hear YOURself? You're certainly not listening, that's obvious.

2:47 pm

Why would I listen? I'm not changing your mind and you're not changing mine. We can have different opinions. No big dea?

2:47 pm

deal

2:47 pm

Later, folks, I've had enough. *eyeroll*

2:49 pm

Champ, I appreciate much of what he is trying to do, but hate the fact he is violating our Constitution to do it. Article I, Article III, 14th Amendment, etc. Just not okay. And it's a good thing to have different opinions -- If you've read the Jefferson papers or the similar accounts of the Constitutional Congress, there was A LOT of disputes, arguing, etc before they compromised on the final document.

2:50 pm

Back to that 8 ... does anyone have stats for that please?

champ, it's a kind of poison (pt 7 and 8)

2:51 pm

what does it start with, hokie?

the P is silent! I learned the word in Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah.

2:51 pm

YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, I just said it. PT7 and PT8

2:51 pm

And that dates us both, doesn't it!!!

2:51 pm

Here I am at Camp Grenada!

Ha, thanks, Champ. and that song way predates us.

2:52 pm

Got it!

2:52 pm

Well yeah, but it was still around enough for us to be aware. My kids wouldn't know it.

2:52 pm

I read your 'pt' as 'past tense' - lolol!

true dat

ohh, sorry

2:54 pm

no, totally my bad. I'm laughing at myself. My brain works in peculiar ways.

2:54 pm

On that note...weird happenings around here. ON Valentine's day, 2 young guys held up a runner at knifepoint while he was on a run. Of course it iwas in all the neighborhood social media. Fast forward to today...they got one of the kids. An acquaintance of mine's SON! and his sidekick who was a minor. Kids from the 'burbs. IDIOTS committing felonies!

wow

2:57 pm

When I first heard about it, I thought ," runners don't carry anything!". But this guy actually had his phone, which they didnt' take, so he got a pic of them and shared it all over.

3:03 pm

Still have 26 left...how 'bout you carla?

3:07 pm

Back to an earlier discussion about Canadian wine... My husband and I travelled to BC to "pitch" a batch of wine we purchased. According to Canadian law, we had to personally dump a small packet of (something I can't remember), then come back in 3 months to pick up our 30 bottles of wine. Sounded like fun! Except when we went back to pick up our bottles, we found out that U.S. Customs would require us to be a licensed wine dealer to bring more than 2 bottles back! A friend of ours in BC was the grateful recipient of 30 bottles of wine. He said it was pretty decent stuff. LOLOLOLOL! Lesson learned.

3:08 pm

That's annoying, but lucky for your friend!

3:09 pm

Champ, you do indeed have a right to your opinion. Whether others agree with it or not.

3:09 pm

Yes, and we took the attitude of Hey, we had a fun time in BC.

3:13 pm

I've always thought so Molly. But I'd rather not do that here, because I think of it as my happy place. Not a place of debate.

3:18 pm

I agree, Champ, and apologize if my comments added to the debate. Reddit has lots of threads for people to discuss/debate politics. In our Babble community, I like to think we practice respectful acceptance of those we disagree with. Kind of like, when you enter this room, leave the politics, snideness, rudeness, etc outside.

3:20 pm

Much appreciated ch1212! I deal with people all the time, and never bring up politics. It's not my concern where they fall politically. I'm a salesperson, so try really hard to keep my views separate from my transactions. People are people.

3:22 pm

I'll bbl to finish -- maybe, my brain is sludge today. :)

3:23 pm

We'll see how far I get. Have a good one!

When is it just politics and when is it a crisis for humanity? I ponder.

3:24 pm

Not gonna work, Kap. I'm done.

champ, rehi - saw your question - I am finished.

3:25 pm

That is a good way to approach things Champ. I am sure it is hard not to speak up since this place seems have become very political lately.

3:25 pm

Congrats! Stil at 22.

I just got here so I don't know what's been going on.

3:25 pm

I sit on my hands. It's worked up to today.

I will allow that speaking out on Babble is not the best forum for protest. No one knows we're here. Is there an actual rule about political or religious discussions?

3:27 pm

No rules...it's the wild wild west! :)

3:32 pm

BBL (maybe) for my last 21. Good luck everyone!

3:32 pm

I think there was a mutual agreement among most players to table the political stuff a while back. But most of those players are long gone.

Oh, I see- you are coming from a different place from a good chunk of us. People are feeling things intensely. I am generally not interested in billionaires. My father used to say to me- he was a small businessman--that those who really succeed in business and get rich had to cheat somewhere along the way. I know my father was an honest man. The only expense he ever put on the business account was season tickets to the NY Metropolitan Opera.

For that I think he can be forgiven.

3:34 pm

There are other and better forums for the lengthy discussions that go on here about how Canada is getting screwed by Trump.

4:00 pm

4:12 pm

excuse me

There are things going on that are so out of the norm and if this is as friendly and happy a community, people should talk about what they feel moved to talk about. These are extraordinary times.

If this was Munich in the 1930s and there was such a thing as an internet I would be moved to talk about it, and further moved to start packing my bags.

Speaking of which, I am going with a group of arts related people to CUBA next week.

I get to see Old Havana, artists' studios, and if I can stay up late, hear Afro-Cuban bands. But as a vegetarian with gastric issues I'm going to have a hell of a time. I'm packing snacks.

Hi hursh

There's a beach day. I have drawing materials. We are making large donations to the schools- this is an expensive trip but one of those Why The Hell Not voyages.

There are about 10 of us- it's curated but I reserve the right to opt out. I have people I like in the group so I can spend time with a couple of friends who are going.

5:12 pm

neat

5:16 pm

Kaplan, that sounds wonderful!

5:17 pm

How long will you be there? I read somewhere recently that Cuba is suffering some pretty bad poverty and living conditions.

clue for the ya6,27 please

Any clues pls for to 5

7:09 pm

Joining a discussion quite late, but this place is not nearly as friendly and happy when people spend a lot of time and energy and space talking about political issues. I used to love joining in chat about people's families, jobs, activities, silly stuff. It was a great place for me to meet friends and to decompress. Now, I just join the chat to scour for clues, and try not to read any discussions. I miss all the laughter from the old days though. But glad to have made the friends along the way.

7:10 pm

me too

7:10 pm

scatterbrain, did you try the latin plural of the latin robe?
