thank you, Lickety. Morning babblers.
good morning
I'm going to sleep in a few
hi seain, sleep well and dream even better
I've no 7s or 8s, but have greyed 7 tiles.
not yet sure about this grid, was off to a running start, then hit an early wall.
I keep greying letters, but still nothing longer than a s 6
me neither, but that is normal for me. I am notoriously biggie-blind and tend to find them near the end.
I just found a lovely ca 6/7
I found the 7/8 combo. They are compounds, seain. Hi Soodle.
Hey Sprite 😊
Must get ready for work. Have a great day/ night everyone
you too, SOodle!
I found the last 7, seain, let me know if you want stats
fireflies and poofing
achoo
Good morning, Babblers. :)
good morning, cross
any clue for pa 5/12? The first one? my last word and cannot find it.
i just got it. fw
good morning everyone
song of praise, jeepers
Good morning, Cybernan. :)
pa 5: outdoor yard space that is concrete or some other stone usually is called a pa***.
Not a deck! this is on the ground.
Ty, mkg
I have no 7s or the 8. Any help welcome
read the chat mkg

All set.
morning all
hi Sue
Howdy, Sue.
we have beautiful weather, I pray you are all safe
AR is having it bad
We had a rare state of emergency in our county last night due to the second ice storm. 230,000 without power, but clean up is well uder way today.
I want you all to know that if ever you have to evacuate, and need a place to stay, we can make room.
Cross, if you want to take a trip.....
wow - well past time for winter to be over. So glad I don't live in PQ or ON anymore!
it's 91 today
No real damage except for the poor trees. :(
we have a fenced in yard for dogs, and a tiki hut for humans.
So kind Sue -- but most of us don't want to risk coming to the states anymore -- too much trouble at the border.
Wish I could, but it is not a good time to visit the U.S.
Snap
we have had to bug out a couple of times and it was great to know we had a place to go.
hubby makes amazing ribs on the smoker
:(
Lots of stories about visitors beging detained for ten days or more because they dont like the look of our paperwork.
we still had a few bears, but I have reinforced the fence, hung pine-sol bottles, bells, and a motion light! Next, I get to electrify it
Lol, you can always tell if it is bear poop because it smells like pine-sol and has bells in it. :)
crossy, I suspect that Trump has the media muzzled to the point that Americans never see those stories nor many of the other negative things that are happening to their government.
oh, and I move the bird feeders to the fence so they don't have to fight to get them. I figured its a good trade
rofl
We had one eoman fron Ontario detained for twelve days because of some issue with her Ontario drivers license.
Woman*
I think you are right, cybernan.
same in BC and conditions in the detainment centres are horrible --- people are treated worse than most animals. Leaves me wondering whatever happened to the Geneva Convention --- certainly isn't being honoured in the states!
Nope - we here in the US see all those horror stories, but unfortunately, a chunk of the population doesn’t care because they think it can’t happen to them or that “those people†deserve it.
:(
what about their victims?
what victims?
the rapes, sex traffic children, the lost 300,000 kids missing
Beside, we are in damage control mode with the tarrifs applied to the auto sector, aluminium, and potash. Waiting for our P.M to outline our response.
And the checks and balances that the system once had have eroded via gerrymandering, legislation, and bad legal rulings.
what check and balance was used when they were coming in?
yes all that is happening in the detentions centres too, sue -- it is terrible
I am sorry about all the tariff and costs. but its time America took care of America
read something about (un)truth social, sue
Lost me, how does sex trafficking connect to peole being jailed for trying to drive to the U.S?
we can't be a charity anymore, if we go bankrupt
this isn't personal or emotional, its financial
all those excuses for tariffs exist only in Trump's mind -- he has brainwashed all of you
we have to be very careful now
Sue is fixated on the idea that tourists and immigrants and free trade are bad for the US.
well, America voted him in and we trust his financial work
The U.S will just end up paying 25% more for our stuff.
free trade is great.
drop all the tariffs then
if you think prices were high before --- just wait until the tariffs start taking effect - you will be worse off than ever.
Aluminum and potash are going to be painful.
which will help your cross. why is that bad for you
look, we CANT survive without outside countries. that can't be
Trump fired off the tarriffs first. We are just responding in kind.
we love our neighbors and think you are all wonderful. but we can't afford it
Do you also trust his work of dismantling the justice, education and medical systems, trying to control the press --- these are all moves of a would be dictator
its not personal. you all talk in emotions
Well, this is going to get much worse before it gets better.
the education system, yes. when the states took over the education it was much better
the education department was taking money and giving nothing
Well, the $25 auto tarrifs is going to put a lot of people out of work, so emotion is not surprising.
Also when the leader of one country threatens to take over their neighbour it becomes very personal
25%
I work in the schools and you would cry
Very oersonal
they can't read
Personal
so it's better that some of the states still don't teach evolution?
no shirl
it means to teach it all
picture this. a rep for each state that communicates with each other to see what is working and holding the states to a level of excellence
finally found my last n (ne 5) -- don't know how I could be so blind
you think someone making hundreds of thousands of dollars in WA cares about the students in Concord, NC.
sounds great sue - doubt it wil happen though -- you need some sort of central government and a dicgtatorship won't cover it
Good news is that our west ciast LNG plant comes online today, and we have already secured a free trade deal with the E.U on it. :)
ty cyber, I missed it also
Coast
It is going to put a lot of Americans to work
Trump is a daddy bear, and he is going to do what it takes to take care of America. And he is not taking over other countries, he is giving options.
Well, I think we are going for a different option.
We are securing free trade deals with Japan as well.
no matter what, you have a beautiful place to hang if you get to Florida.
OMG - I’m turning off the chat now. The last thing I want is is to read that a person with a history of sexual assault and racist actions is a “daddy bearâ€.
I certainly agree that he is a predator -- and like all predators only cares about himself and is very dangerous. Sorry but I don't consider him saying Canada should be American is an option - it is a declaration of war
yep, i think all the countries will do what's best for them and exclude the US for now
Lol@ "daddy bear!"
I think so Shirl
Exactly shirlock
i suppose russia might be US's bestie now
and America needs to learn how to stand by herself
why Shirl?
we can't make our own meds. China makes them...its just wrong
Well, they are going to get the chance, but Trump and company won't like it.
there'll be no one left to trade with
Hope you like communism -- that's where you are headed.
well, voting for him, we are going to give him more then 100 days.
Hope you like communism -- that's where you are headed.
why cyber
he has done exactly what we voted for
I am waiting for his executive irder demanding that he be refferred to as "glorious leader."
exactly. its all transparent online
we think so already cross, lol
That is where Trump is leading you, Sue -- you just can't or won't open your eyes and see it. Maybe a study of world history would help.
...
he has already called himself "king", crossy
there are people supporting a man named Mangione who killed an insurance CEO on the streets because of where he worked
He has in a very short time managed to atagaonize most of the free world
Anyway, time will tell. We also diverted an order to build six passanger planes that will now be built outside the U.S
people are shooting and burning cars?? and attacking drivers of the cars they all pushed to buy
we are sick and we need to heal
a man killed a guy at Walgreens because he didn't like drug stores
I feel bad for our American friends. :(
we need your love, not hate
we have a measles epidemic because people think that no vaccines are fine
we need to know that life means everything.
science >>>>> politics please
every country has their rotten eggs and criminally insane, sue, but I think you will find that most of them are "home grown", not foreigners as Trump contends
We do not hate our american friends--we hate the current government.
no cyber, that doesn't work. every one person killed by an illegal person is too much
Like all bullies Trump blames everyone but himself - takes no responsibility for failure.
if it were my loved one, I would think that
wouldn't you
I almost died and I can tell you, it changes you
Look at the stick market right now. It is in freefall, and lives are being destroyed as a direct result, but hey, make America great again, right?
you see life and a gift for everyone
Stock
the stock market isn't life, and you know that
It Is for some people.
it seems we have all gotten used to the THIS SECOND, but if you are planning for long term, it takes time
we had Biden do nothing for 4 years
If the business you work at loses fifty oercent of it value on the market, do you think that affects you?
I need my kids getting SS, not millions of dead people
and now you have Trump destroying everything for 4 years
look at Elon, he is living through it
well how about all the people who will died because they have medicaid is being cut?
everyone has his stock, and yet they are attacking his company
what about all that work for him?
lovely selfish abominable person isn't he
Well, I am dure the richest man on the planet will fare well.
not cutting anything, recouping all given to those not needing it. dead or alive
what about the employees cyber
what about THEM?
well, he should be efficient there and cut those employees too
what about the lady who is afraid to drive her car because someone ran her off the road and screamed at her
I am dure that all those fired federal eorkers do not give a damn if Tesla goes belly up.
are you going to buy her a new car?
I don't have his stock --- in fact I don't hold any US stock any more.
since COVID we have 2x the fed Gov. it had to go
they used the fed gov to hire everyone
Not a chance, but If I do, it would be from the Honda plant here in Alliston.
but, because of the growth of America, they will have lots of jobs
Honda's are great cars, crossy
I just dumped all my U.S stock invluding my WMT shares.
I've been fired and I didn't get 8 months pay
Honda are great cars
and this trans opponents are sick.
read some of the financial papers, sue and articles written by well known financiers -- America is in decline!
Trans men do not belong in women's sports.
my linked in feed is full of people looking for jobs, it's not "full of jobs"
But cars are already so expensive ore-tarriff, that it makes sense to keep investing in my current vehicle.
a girl just gave up her olympic chances just now
she took a knee
Pre-tarriff
now she has lost her stop to a MAN
sick.
Here we just let people be who they wish to be, and identify as they wish.
in sports cross?
and do with their own bodies what they wish
Exactly
at what age cyber?
anyway - enough politics -- off to start my day. Elbows UP :)
here they want you identify your new born babies sex on their birth certificate
I have to get the dogs nails done
we have an amazing lady for $5
Yup, it is like trying to push a piece if rooe uphill. Enough for today.
Rope
I love my girl and she loves me
but.....no, not the nails!
Ahhh nothing like some good transphobia to start my morning
Elbows up!
and yet, she loves this lady
neat
not even a lip
Indeed :/
I don't care, as long as it is not in a competition for women.
we earn our right in there. we work through our periods, we work through bouncing boobs.
As a queer person myself, I admit that the issue of trans women in sports is complicated, but I leave the legislation to the experts in sports medicine and the endocrinologists.
and yes, my granddaughters will NOT change clothing in front of boy in school
and as mother of queer boys, I don't care about that.
I am of the opinion that your granddaughters should not have to change clothing in front of anyone!
I don't care about who you love and want to be with. But not when you are putting science against emotions
We had teo people at my work who were transgender, and they were treated no differently, and they used whatever bathroom they were comfortsble with, they played whatever sports interested them. Not my place to judge.
Two
I think you are wonderful untitled. I have to go.
it is when you have children facing these issues
and just to leave you with this
I do not like this new fashion with the shoulder slits.
Love and keep safe all
Interesting.
morning all -- is it safe to enter the chat?
Yup.
All done for now.
Hiwdy, Eva. :)
too tired to get my feathers ruffled today. i have too many friends i would feel the need to stick up for in that conversation.
hiya Crossy. :)
Yup, best to let it rest for now.
It was the same when I ran a bar--talk about anything you want except politics and religion, or you end up brooming up broken glass and patching holes in the walls.
The difficulty is when someone's fundamental identity is considered political. Thank you all for the civil chat, I shall return to lurking
Tc, Untitled. :)
there are times and places for all sorta of debates -- and lord knows i exercise them all. but i come to Babble to escape, so i dont want to have to wage battle here as well.
Fair enough.
you are very welcome here anytime you wish to de-lurk, Untitled. :)
I agree Eva.
What eva saud.
Said
anywhoodle. more gridding. there are still 45 words left in there that are hiding from me.
I should know better. You get a far left and a far right trying to justify their positions and it usually never ends well.
I am still chuckling at "big bear."
But back to finding a few more words.
i dont think i read that far back.
My mind is trying to conjure up a large, old bear who was caught eating a large bag of cheetos.
A bear in orange face. :)
seat
sorry. good morning
Howdy, Dorens. :)
7s and 8 please -- i already have that one. ;)
Couldn't help but see the chat with the political crap. Some people don't seem to learn the lay of the land, And sorry, Eva, don't have any of htem
What fishermen wear
thanks crossy
Np
I bit my tongue during all that crazy talk - it's almost time for me to get ready for a meeting today with the powers that be at a nearby nursing home, where my disabled daughter (age 37, has MS, can't stand or walk any more, other medical problems too numerous to go into) was taken to in December. I can no longer be her sole caretaker, as I am too old and messed up myself and she is bigger than me. We are scared of what may happen with this administration.
((rbud))
And good reason to be scared. I'm sorry rbud
Sorry about the politics, rbud, but this threat has fired up and united Canadians like never before.
thanks. I will just continue to persevere and hope for the best for all of us.
Yes, I wish that as well.
any americans who ARENT afraid arent paying attention.
I live in a bubble...all my friends feel the same way about the orange putz and his mad sidekick Elon. Most of us are political activists but find it hard to know what to do right now. Things look so bleak. There will be rallies across the country this Saturday, but I'm not sure how well publicized this has been so unclear as to how many people will actually show up. But with a little luck this movement will grow. The problem as I see it is the complicity of Republicans unwilling to be honest and stop the insanity
quite right, Eva, but there are a lot who don't pay attention, or lack critical thinking and blindly believe the crazy bs.
hey, don't forget what Guns n Roses taught us
nothing lasts forever... even cold no-conscience reign
well a hell of a lot of damage is being done right now and will be difficult to repair, if and when we get the chance. Bankrupting the government to benefit the oligarchs right now
i know, i just thought a pun might cheer you up a smidge
yup. the average american is operating with a middle-school level of education. but they refuse to acknowledge that they may not know everything and to trust the people who actually have studied these things. and until the rest of our government gets off their asses and does their job in checks and balances, we are living in an actual hellscape.
ahh. not working today. but thanks hush and I'm not seeing much hope for checks and balances these days,,
i have yet to land that pun successfully. i guess guns n roses are not as popular as i would have thought
only thing of theirs that I really liked was Patience
Different generation, hursh
i got it, Hurshy. :)
yeah
thanks eva :D
corners grey!
I live in a blue bubble too. Every now and then a MAGA hat wanders in. The head under the hat doesn't know what oligarchy even means, so "What Me Worry?"
I'd expect most of the older MAGAs to remember Reaganomics and understand that the trickle-down theory was a massive failure. but alas...
Quite true Kaplan. But I do know some people with graduate degrees who clearly have intelligence but just don't seem to be willing to admit they were wrong back in 2016,
I don't think they've ever come to understand that it was a failure, Eva
My Congresswoman is having a Town Hall this evening. I'm going and I hope she doesn't have too many MAGAs there to heckle her. They are all over her social media trolling her and being generally obnoxious.
They don't remember- lot of them weren't alive. 1984 is a long time ago. The dumbing down of America was a contribution of the Reagan Bush years. They've been playing the long game.
They will not understand until all these new decrees start affecting them personally.
"Hands of my Medicare!"
i saw a funny fake commercial the other day for a product called ALIOTL (At Least I Owned The Libs) and it ended with like putting that on one's tombstone
"What do you mean the social security office is closed? I'll mail them a letter. oh yeah- the post office..."
On a side note, I get my very first pension cheque this month. :)
congrats, you lucky canadian you
my mother is 85 years old and just repeats "each administration undoes what the previous one did and it always ends up fine" but then i outline ALLLLLLLLLL the things this one has done and she says "well, thats illegal -- he cant do that" and yet, HE IS. and no one is stopping him.
It never ends up fine.
you guys need to follow Robert Reich and some of the other people who give "reasons for hope" in spite of it all
That is the sanest recommendation I have heard today.
i mean really we already had oligarchy - now it's just so much more blatant and out in the open, who konws? it MAY make enough people realize it's bad that we can actually eventually get fundamental reform out of all this.
We had a beautiful lady here in town who lived to 114!! She collected a pension for 44 years!!
i just do my best to focus on the things i CAN affect. to stand up for the people who ARE affected. and to secure, as best i can, the things around me.
i hope i don't live to 114... ack
I live 4 blocks away from where that Tufts graduate student was kidnapped by ICE.
I spoke with her at 112. Mind sharp as a tack but mostly deaf and blind in one eye.
I would rather not live to be 114- people celebrating with a nasty cake saying "114 years young!" while all my friends and family are gone.
im with you Hurshy. these past few years have been so stressful with, among other things, losing my father + dealing with massive health issues for my mother, resulting in moving her to assisted living. i dont want my loved ones to stress and suffer. let me go.
i think i heard you can lose your sense of smell and taste as you get old, so like you can't even enjoy food anymore really. like what is the point??
You kidding? If I make it to 100, I will hire dancers and an Irish band for my oarty.
Party
What is the point? A stupid party and a mention on the evening news. "How did you manage to live this long?" "By not dying."
I am figuring that I have fifteen good years left.
Bout the same kaplan, bout the same. :/
"So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here." (Phil Ochs.)
Back, missed a lot, but yes to Hershey on Robert Reich. He is brilliant. And 114 sounds terrible, but my stepfather at nearly 99 is in great shape and he won't let me carry things that he thinks might hurt my back. He is strong still. And healthy and happy
Love phil Ochs
Ah, but Phil Ochs died so young
Gonna say it now, and we are!
He committed suicide.
healthy is key if you have to be old.
I know some Iraqi Jews who are all turning 100.
And a poet down in Greenwich Village who has past 100.
ooee just got the 8 and did not think my guesses were going to work at all!!
Well, it's not something I need to worry about anymore, not with stage IV pancreas cancer. But I'm on a terrific clinical study drug at Sloan Kettering that has shrunk the tumor by 75%. Still, at 75, I don't think I'll be around long enough to worry about 100
wow, dorens. so sorry to hear about your diagnosis but glad you're in a good clinical trial
Dorens, are you in pain?
Chicago Patriots?
Nope, not now. The shrinking of the tumor has freed me from the fentanyl patches I needed from November through February. Twinges now, but no big deal
Sorry to hear that, Dorens. As a cancer survivor myself, I can fully relate.
actor Humphrey's nickname counts
yes, it's a golf term brushy Crossy, were you stage IV also??
Stage three
i usually see the golf term spelled -ey
Sorry to hear that Dorens. What type of drug are you on for your clinical trial?
I have been in remission for fifteen years ir so
then again i guess i don't know how people spell Humphrey's nickname since one mostly hears it aloud
At first it was called RMC62436, but now it has a name - Daronraxib
do they use a random word generator or does a person make up those names??
Are they going to try and remove the tumour if it shrinks enough?
NIce, cross, and yes brushy, they are spelled differently sorry, I think it's daraxonrasib. And no Cross, it had already metastasized to several spots so I'm past being helped by surgery. The drug lasts as long as the tumor doesn't mutate to make it stop working. Then..... who knows
:(
brushy? I coulda sworn I typed hurshy
There are lots of new treatments at the moment and lots of repurposed drugs that work for other types of tumours. It's really hopeful what they can do with some of these newer drugs. Long may it continue to work for you.
now, if i became unable to babble, then life would REALLY be awful
hi again -- is it safe to come back?
I was fortunate. My stage three seminoma was caught JUST before it metastisized.
It is safe
they are really excited about this daraxonrasib. They think it will end up being first line treatment for many solid tumors, not just pancreas And yes that's true hurshy, but I was really off babble for a while, and lots of other things.
Understandable.
dang it all
Solid tumours are so hard to treat. My husband had a really aggressive form of bone cancer with virtually no treatment options. He did a clinical trial which helped for a few months. I'm always pleased and excited to see trials that work and potentially can be used for other cancers.
so sorry to hear about your cancer Dorens -- hope the new drugs will continue to help you.
Yes. My doctor told me that if I had the cancer in 1970 it would have killed me. They are learning new things all the time.
They are working on a once a day pill to replace many of those horrible chemo cocktails such as cisplatin (sp)
hi all
Howdy. Peri. :)
hi Dorens. so glad to hear that your tumor has shrunk 75%
I remember how the chemo bags were still warm when they were brought up from the lab. Shudder...
Yes, glad it is working. We want you with us for a long time yet, Dorens.
Cisplatin is awful. Taken with a cocktail of other drugs it's horrendous. The cisplatin was probably the least worse of the drugs he was one. So sad to see the awful effects of treatment. Hopefully they will soon come up with kinder drugs that can target just the tumours and no cause the horrendous side effects to the rest of the body.
Sorry, I'm in and out right now. Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone. And yes, my drug is oral, and I take it every day, and will until it stops working, which apparently it will some day. But for now I'm happy, much more energy than I had previously and enjoying my wonderful family and friends.
F**k cancer.
:)
ch 6/30 please?
Yes, cisplatin really destroyed my best friend's kidneys ten years ago
As an aside a fund set up in my husbands memory stands at about £35,000 for research into his kind of cancer. Proud to be able to contribute in small way to research
It killed the nerves in my hand and feet as a "lesser" side effect.
Do you have a link for that fund, jax?
That is beautiful jax
sorry - can't talk about cancer - hits too close to home and just had a friend diagnosed with glioblastoma - back later
Sorry, cybernan. :(
I understand nan, no need to apologize. I"m going now myself. need to do something productive like laundry
so that's a poof from me. Happy babbles everyone
As a survivor, I sometimes get too pragmatic when discussing or advising cancer. It was the main reason why I did not give up, and why I am still on this side if the dirt.
That and my beloved who dragged me to the dictor appointment.
Doctor
Our son was only ten at the time, and I swore that I would eat broken glass if need be so as to not leave my family.
it was my fathers 3rd, completely unrelated, cancer in about 2 years that finally took him. sigh
Same with my Da, Eva. Thord cancer took him out.
Third
I have no grand illusions. You look back on my family tree and it is cancer as far back as you care to go. My father was the only one to make it past 70.
pros/cons of being adopted. i can just pretend its all fine.
Told the wife that if I make it past 70, that I will take up smoking again. :)
What I really miss is the booze. My stomach can no longer tolerate it. :(
prayers for everyone. it seems everyone has had to face the cancer devil.
Yup, it plays no favourites.
regular screenings! can't buy health
Off for a few, and I promise to come back with chit chat that does not drive people out of the chat room. Will bore you with stories about our dogs perhaps. :)
bow wow out!
I thought we were having a respectful conversation, I guess I'm too naive and uneducated to think I was being made fun of. It's sad that that there are CLICKS still exist at our age, over 12.
cliques
ty hurshy. I asked Siri, but rushed it I guess
hi again - two left and all help appreciated: he 7/36 and ch 6/30
We were, sue. It is good to discuss diference, and to get a different view on things, but one has to be careful not to offend these days.
Differences*
no one was making fun of you sue -- trump yes, but not you
true. you don't need to correct cross, I read spellcheck
Trump yes, you, no.
see that is the difference. when it is said "middle education". who am I supposed to take it?
how
what is said to and at me hurts. it is usually an emotional attack on ME and nobody sees the individual person anymore
If anything I said upset you, I apologise. Things are heated at the moment. We love our American friends.
and we love you. I may not agree with you, but I defend your right to say it respectfully
Here's an idea - if someone says something that you don't agree with - don't insist that it is a personal attack and that they should shut up
Because you do seem to take any opinion in opposition to yours as a personal attack
me too -- I have nothing agains American individuals and always enjoyed our snowbird years and the friends we made. It is the current administration down there that scares me with the direction it is taking - nothing personal
and here we go again Gillie
Exactly, cybernan.
exactly cybernan
my eduction level should not be judged
The thing is, I think is this: we all have pretty strong opinions one way or the other about current affairs. No one of us is going to change another’s mind. So all we do is wrangle and sometimes hurt each other. So it is best to stick to discussing Babble and other mundane things.
I often don't like what my own government is doing either.
At least the Canadian government isn't currently tanking the stock market and imposing taxing on all imports ranging from 10 to 40%
done - any clues wanted before I leave?
*taxes*
disagreeing and attacking are two different things. I love a respectful debate as long as it is on issue.
no ty cyber. gn
Tc, cybernan. Have a good day. :)
I don't know if we can discuss, so I will ask. Do you all think having trans men in women's sports? any country.
oh don't talk about that, Gillie -- I am still waiting for a T3 and some gains/losses statements to come in!
after all these years, I am still rubbish at C words
I certainly think they have an advantage when it comes to strength but not so much agility. I just don't know what a fair solution would be.
I hate tax time, but I love our universal healthcare, so I pay with a smile. I would not be walking around today otherwise.
agreed crossy
You wouldn't love paying 10% to 40% on everything you buy
*almost* everything you buy - tariffs don't apply if it's made in the U.S., but amazingly, there are many things that the U.S. can't produce for itself
Stephanie Turner took a knee at a woman's competition
No, Carney as already anounced reciprocol tarrifs.
no I wouldn't Gillie, but I would do it gladly if means preserving our sovereignty
Not on everything, and only on goods from the U.S.
true gillie, that is why the US needs to start making things ourselves.
This is how the 1930s depression started
Yup, until a superpower has threatened to take your country from you, you will not understand.
not being able to make your own meds, is scary. especially if you are buying from China
That's the last time the U.S. tried imposing tariffs that were this high
Greenland and Denmark understand.
I lived in Concord NC when all the fabric makers left the US
So do Ukraine and Poland
Europe understands.
everyone lost their jobs. everything closed up.
Yup
thousands of people in NC
Reading this chat is mega depressing
and the furniture moving from Highpoint NC
Sorry, swmbo.
But now you have a labor shortage, which Florida is solving by legalizing child labor - 16-year-olds attending school can now work overnight on school nights and 30 hours a week .
everyone is getting excited again about maintenance again, electrical, welding...
That should replace the immigrants Trump is busily getting rid of.
Gillie, they need it so badly
Biab.
I worked at 16, didn't you?
Even 14 years olds in Florida will be able to work overnight shifts as long as they are home-schooled - yay!
that is up to their parents, don't you think
my son has been working since he was 15
Yeah, parents should be allowed to do anything they want to to their kids
he did Cheerleading and I couldn't afford it.
he worked at making Bows for his share of travel
Did he work overnight, 30 hours a week?
I work in the High Schools and they are so excited to get a foot in the door at 16
And if so, how did he have time and energy for anything else
to see if it is what they want. One school bathes dogs for their animal classes
a lot of farm work also
Yes, but not full time
you do what you have to do if you want it
peat
oops
I live in florida and have not heard anything about this in the schools. TY for letting me know, I will look into it.
Yeah, put them in the mines - nobody else wants to do it. Victorian times were the best.
longer words mael, lol
at this point gillie, while we're worrying about measles and tariffs we might as well have child labor to round out the return to two centuries ago
hah
My great grandfather used to wash used gin bittles for three pence a week!
Bottles*
I walked dogs for $1 a walk
As a child*
id have done it for free, but I love Icees.
my mom used to pick olives off the ground to pay for shoes, she would have hoped for better for her grandkids
the Italian Icees, not that drink stuff
why can one sneeze but not sneeze multiplicatively?
male, really. the kids are growing up to be kids. I raised my children to be adults.
Yup. One sneeze at a time, please. :)
life is hard, but we are stronger
mael, it keeps spellchecking me
no worries
sorry
I worked at a horse stable in Brooklyn ny. we worked like dogs, just for the chance to ride.
I think making sure kids can't be exploited in workplaces when they are still minors is a thing that makes healthier and better adults
opened at 6:30am before school
Still doesn't come close to 30 hours a week
responsibility cultivates adults
teenagers can have jobs already, what this is doing is removing protections meant to stop abuse
I am all for kids being allowed to be kid, but I got my first full time job at age 16.
and yet some what this minors to be able to change their sex
I moved out at 16
we are as strong as our roots.
My son did not suffer the same fate. If we can give future generations a better life than we had, then it is good.
good thing workplaces can't do that and it's a medical decision, then
exactly, my whole purpose in life is to make sure my kids are happier and healthier than I was, and than my parents were before me
a lady once screamed at me because I didn't run over to my son who fell off his bike. I asked if he was hurt bad, he said no. i continued to walk. she said I was a horrible mother for not running over. I told her life is about who is falling down, its about who gets up.
coddling and protecting are two different things and it serves nothing to conflate them
Mael, i have raised 5 really good men. they are confident and kind.
sure, and many other parents have not
my mom had to drop out of school at 12 to work in a silk factory to support her older sisters going to nursing school
I raised them while going to school at 43 full time & working full time. I was ale to, because I knew I had no other choice
she was a strong and independent woman, doesn't mean doing that was good for her
and really good is subjective
able to
when they were old enough to do math, we started our budget. how much I made and how to apply it to OUR family. Needs, wants & desires where identified. they cleaned as soon as they were able to make messes.
If I was to die, they would have a good start at what they needed to succeed on their own merits. To be a great partner to their love ones.
afternoon all
afternoon Mool
I'm off to a meeting, hope to be back later
be safe
hey sue
greetings, earthlings. how is the grid?
to change the subject totally. I bought some wood slat looking curtains and they are soooo cute
just starting this one
I'm hiding my crafts behind them
like curtains on a window or like the beaded curtains in doorways in the 70s?
hoke!!!!!!
moooo!
did you Hear about the TX HS student fatally stabbed at a track meet. because he told a different runner he was in the wrong lane. He died in his twin brothers arms. I am too broken up. bbl.
no
this board has started off swimmingly
for real or sarcasm?
for real...greyed 5 of my first 6 tiles, and only 2 left on the other one (the P)

boattape - material used for quick repairs on marine vessels
lol, still on 2nd row. but I am doing some (late) lunch things
boghat - swamp headwear
patigue - the feeling you get when you are tired of stroking your pet and they don't seem to be done yet, but you certainly are
btw, it's snowing lightly here
We once had a very old 18 foot aluminum boat. It was a riveted hull that started to seep after a while, so we used muffler tape to slow down the leaks. :)
a perfectly good example of boattape
Indeed. :)
and hey crossy
no thanks on the snow
It got so that we could time how long we had been out on the lake by how much water was sloshing around.
Howdy, mool. :)
phantom chignon
who doesn't love a good phantom chignon every now and again
and a patootie
Beautiful thing was if you really opened her up, and got her on plane, you could carefully reach down, pull the drain plug, and it would suck the water out. Just had to remember to put it back right after.
I almost had a chignon today but then it turned into a ponytail
had to look up what a chignon was
lol, I was pretty sure you didn't know
I just walked into the wall with my laptop and not only did it leave a mark on the wall, I am sure to have a mark on my side.
is that laptop okay at least?
oh, just found the 8
I was going to post it as another phony :)
I don't see any issues other than the super dirty keyboard, but I do have apple care.
yeah, my keyboard could use a clean now that I look at it
was it bootstaph? the bacteria you get from the bottom of your shoes?
yes, that's a 9. whatevs.
now I'm seeing patootie, thanks atalante

cleaning keyboard
mine needs a professional deep clean
gave my phone a wipe down too
I need a new laptop
well the keyboard clean helped, found a word
mine's fairly new compared to how old my last one was
last column and 4th row greyed
two different words
well mine is 2 years old...but yeah
mine says it's a 2020. I am shocked. covid years lost again.
that laptop is well into it's middle age
My older desktop is 14 years old but in fairness, it's not connected to internet -- I only use it for data entry and Word.
yeah, that laptop would qualify for antique status :)
11 left, 5 of which are B's
I think my last macbook was only 8. now this one seems much older than I thought.
okay, apparently I purchased it Mar 2021
that knocks a year off :)
10 to go
they took the magic bar off the next model. mine has started flashing bright light when I open it, so I expect it won't last much longer.
