thanks Lickety. Morning babblers.
fireflies and poofing
hance
Good morniing, Babblers. :)
Wow, this grid is full of weird ones
When did Babble come back
Last night
Yay
Glad to have Babble back this morning :-)
good to know he has not given up on us :D
I'm still not sure why some emails were bouncing back and others went through
yeah, that doesn't make sense
I was hoping Dart would give up for a day or so
huh?
I know dozens of people emailed Dr. God and one person got thanked
yeah, I saw that, but my huh was to ruru
I emailed him from both my emails and they both bounced back to me
i emailed him using the bottom of the page link - for some reasons, it loaded up Windows live Mail - that email bounced - i then used Gmail and it worked
maybe some people have his personal email?
gmail didn't work for me
hi monty
well the address on here ends in @playbabble.com, so you'd think if the site was down the emails would bounce back. but I don't know enough about computers to know.
strange indeed !
hi there ru...and gm everyone
hey monty
hi everyone!
hey ata
hey ata
I'm still trying to figure out who Dart is
BTW I found a new scotch you HAVE to try ata
ooooo whats that
well.. we went out to Mull and Tobermorry has a 21 year old in Muscat casks that is perfect... all of us thought it was the best scotch of the trip
better than anything we had at Macallan, and the others
I will look for it! ALl the small distilleries are better than the big ones that just cater to American tourists (sorry!)
when we were there it was mostly German tourists
we were really well behaved american tourists I'll have you know
interesting! I was about to add Cinese tourists too
tons of germans.. the locals seemed to be bothered by them... they were impressed that we were there for two and a half weeks going everywhere
Mull is just such a gorgeous place
no kidding... and the islands just off of Mull
I always read people in other countries complaining that american tourists are so loud! but last time we went to disney the brits seemed really loud. so I have this theory that someone with a very different accent just sticks out above all the others you're hearing.
the green islands and the deep blue water so gorgeous
no.. the germans were rowdy and loud :D
bbl - have a great day all
and Ulva with its completely turquoise water
fits my theory though
good to see you monty
bye monty
same here ru - bye for now
So let me get this straight. There is dr.god@playbabble.com and dr.god@gmail.com?
no, that's not what monty said
no, only the 1st address as far as i know
the 2nd time, i used my GMAIL email program
sorry, have to go - poof
he clicked the link below, which is the playbabble one, and it pulled up his windows email (when I do it on mac it pulls up my mac mail which I don't use)
so then he used the address below from his gmail and it worked.
Okay, I never use the link when I email him. It still doesn't explain why some went through and some didn't. Emails don't depend on the sending email they depend on the receiving end.
the only thing I can think of is the server was intermittently working, so some emails went through then. some people complained of red boxes before it went out completely, so maybe it was just hit or miss.
does lo6 start with the Scottish lake?
yes, phae
its a small version of the lake :D
ty
ooh, found the hawaiian word today before listing.
*Dishes up some poi for Carla
oh, there's another hawaiian word
almost missed that one and I usually see it but miss the other
4th col gray! (forgot to make that hawaiian A plural)
phantom: scholar
phantome: cholera and cholamine
i'm always glad for cholera to be a mere phantom lol
'morning, folks. thought this game was a goner - so glad it's not
so, a BIG thank you to dr. god!
welki!
carla!
wow I didn't foresee that se6/21 :D
:D
my ouija board told me about it
but not seeing 35 others. BBL. TTFN.
oh no
what's wrong, hurshy?
i had gotten a red box
was afraid the site was going to go down again
but i guess it was just a minor blip
I was just reading yesterday's chat. Good grief! We all need to get a life.
Glad its back
There is a whole big life out there beyond Babble.
oh indeed there is. But when you are old and have a routine, little things can annoy lol
That's why it's a good idea to always have options.
Oh I have lots of options. I just like Babble.
What was out of the ordinary bea?
I am constantly amazed that Dr. God has kept this going free of charge for all these years for all the work he has to do on it.
I agree
Lickety as well.
Not to mention the free drinks and snacks in the PB
Every board I was involved in or working on 20 years ago has shut down or sold to a higher bidder.
Not out of the ordinary, but the player that told Dr.God he must come to the chat once every 24 hours. Not out of ordinary for that player.
Some people live lives steeped in drama.
Well consider the source bea
drama is tiring
I agree and yet some people seem to thrive on it. Unfortunately, a lot of them play Babble.
In this case it seems like entitlement.
Oh yeah. There is that every day
Entitlement seems to be prevalent amongst people who live in 5 million dollar homes.
hi eveyone -- wonder what happened yesterday
Well, I don't know who any of the Babble players are in real life and don't read the chog often enough to really see any drama. I just go along to get along.
Maybe it is surprising Babble isn't down more often than it is. Lots of things seem to be off kilter these days
well idk about you guys but i am having a heck of a time with C words today
i suppose there must be some C7s
but i only have one of them
I have two ca6/7 combos from the top C.
Only have 5 on the lower C
that can't be, i only need two words from the top C and my 7 is a ch
Your Right.
Just one set from the top
Nan, the server went down yesterday and Dr. God wasn't around to get it going again.
are they weird? if so may i have clues? thanks :)
There are several weird C words
oHO i monkeyed that set from the top C
thanks molly. Saanich sent an email asking if had quit, so though I would ask
it says it is a court for playing jai alai, but i would rather think of it as when you start off doing one double-name dance and halfway through you switch to another double-name dance
Nan, you posted something once that sounded like you were quitting.
no she was asking if the game had been stopped.
bea could you clue the OTHER ca6/7 set, from the lower C?
Well with no Babble and Dr. God unavailable it did seem like the end of the game.
there was one time where it was down for more than 24 hours. so i wasn't worried about that.
Starts like the West Coast state and ends with do, re, __ for the 6
oh haha i got that 6 but dopily failed to think of that 7
thanks!
oh oh oh oh
phantom: menace
:D
Well, internet boards do not last indefinitely so it is better not to become too attached to them.
hurshy brilliant clue
well hopefully doc will come up with some kind of a succession plan :D lol
do you mean my dance comment swmbo or are you really thanking bea for her ca6 clue?
Succession plan?
someone in the next generation to run the site when he is no longer able to
He has had offers to buy it, he hasn't taken any up so far.
well then we probably WOULD pay through the nose
Not necessarily. Just a reasonable yearly fee like most sites charge to generate a profit. Not many people do that kind of work for free.
i told him years ago that we would not mind having an annual fee instead of one-time but he was against it. but if a large corporation buys it, there's no telling if they'd be "reasonable" or bloodsucking.
hurshy the dance comment. brilliant
And from what I can tell, most people here can afford a yearly fee and then some.
A large corporation isn't going to buy this site. Someone smaller would and has make/made an offer.
oh good, i'm glad you liked it swmbo. :)
I remember paying for a membership, but I think it was only $10
I have never paid. Not that I wouldn't if asked, but I never was asked.
Member since August 8, 2005 my profile says.
With a reasonable fee and the right search engine optimization this site could generate a nice profit.
Well, Dr God obviously isn't in it for the money.
I remember when people used to "sponsor" other members. I had to wonder about that. Dr. God never charged so much that the average person couldn't afford to pay the membership.
I also gladly made a willing donation to the cause. It was a small amount. I only played Iron Sudoku in the beginning and there was a link to pay a small fee.
some players were seniors on very small fixed incomes though, i think
Not the ones I am thinking of.
Well, I have reached my goal, so I am out of here! TTFN
I think Dr. God makes enough on his other internet ventures to do this one pro bono.
Oh MollyL, you have done some research? What are his other internet ventures?
Most people like Dr. God and Lickety who have internet board savvy find a way to make a living by doing that.
Back in the late 90's it was all the rage. Bigger entities like Facebook have killed the smaller internet guys for the most part. (I still miss Television Without Pity, what a great site)
Namaste
it'd also be nice if this were a secure site..
I thought it was now. That was part of the switch to the new server that Lickety had trouble with.
oh maybe.. you are right
after all our user names and passwords have been stolen a dozen times and plastered all over the black web
Yeah, pretty much.
facebook is kind of dying these days isn't it?
I can't believe people still post their email addresses in their profiles. Then they wonder why their emails get hacked.
Facebook isn't dying enough unfortunately.
I think an annual fee of $10 wouldn't lose many players.
It might stop some new ones from signing up though.
Millennials don't like to pay for games and like them free
Most people who play here can afford a lot more than ten dollars. And since the population here is less than 100 most days, ten dollars a year wouldn't generate much income.
we could add lurker fees
Now THAT would generate some income.
:D
gotta go meeting friends for brunch
:D
Funny tidbit of the day for the dead chat...I heard Inna Gadda Da Vida twice today so I thought it was worth looking up. Apparently it is supposed to be a love song from Adam to Eve. But Doug Ingle of Iron Butterfly was so drunk when he wrote it that when he sung it to his band mate Ron Bushy, the words "in the garden of Eden" came out (slurred) "inna gadda da vida".
Inna Gadda Da Vida goes on forabout 18 minutes but only has 2 or 3 linles of actual lyrics, as well.
Yep, it's mostly drum solo
That was my hubby’s favorite album when hewas in college &/or under stress. Until we had our daughter, that is.
I'm stunned. I never would have thought Nef or Bichon even knew who Iron Butterfly was.
Next thing you know, Nan will be saying she likes Metallica.
Molly, we’re “ women of a certain age” & have a lot of surprises up our sleeves.
somepost from below is atributed to me was not made by me
Wait...Bichon...someone is posting as you?
hello all. help with an7 please
I have the ca6/7 that hurshy clued. ty. help with other ca6/7 please
not doing well with this grid but have not spent much time on it either
clued at 11:24 AM by BzznBea: "Starts like the West Coast state and ends with do, re, __ for the 6"
then change to the collective pronoun for you and me on the end to get the 7 (not "we" but **)
seems like it should be a word relating to squid, but turns out it's some sort of tropical Asian palm
really only the first 3 of the western state, diff vowel after
It is weird to have someone say that post was not me and then not clarify
I tend to agree, must be more to that story. Perhaps someone walked by her open Babble page, saw mention of "in a gadda da vida" and felt moved to expound? Or was it the only other comment from her, about Babble being back? Maybe an elaborate hack for no real reason?
*shrug*
Shrug?
yes, I did.
all done, yay. Laters!
so bichon didn't post about inna godda da vida? weird
geez, 33% of my remaining words are c
Don't know since she never responded to my question. And I am not shrugging because someone posting with someone else's sign in information is pretty serious.
I think rbud was shrugging that she didn't know the answer
is mr. bichon there or traveling? maybe he did it.
this website is a secure connection now
Okay. To me a shrug has always been dismissive.
people shrug all the time when they say I don't know
Yes it is a secure connection. So why the comment about how that wasn't her. And why no response to my question.
Sorry. That kind of stuff bothers me. I guess I just shouldn't care.
hello again....can someone clue the ch 6/24?
pen!
carla!
wish I could but I still need 6 c's there
i am down to two....ch 6/7...assuming it's a combo...
hmm
i tried Best Word List but didn't see it....i will go back and check again....
is it before or after the ch6/27?
way later....they are after the weird way to say goodbye in Italian....
just found it in bestwordlist - rhymes with disney animated movie set in polynesia with the rock, dewayne johnson
thanks....i am done...
need anything before i go?
still 22 left, so will probably list, thanks
no problem...goodnight....
good night!
