it's just like boggle - try to make words from connecting tiles. an 4/4 means a word that starts with an, is 4 letters and worth 4 points.

Helen, most of the meds that adjust serotonin levels make a person groggy at first, then it seems to wear off. If you are thinking it makes you too groggy, talk to your doc or a pharmacist to see how long that will last. Xanax is different because it works so very quickly against panic attacks -- the Prozac and other meds can take several weeks to really show improvement. VERY important to keep taking them unless they cause dangerous side effects, to give them a chance to work and to give your body a chance to get used to them.

Helen, I know that for some people it is not wise to take Xanax for very long periods -- again, talk to your doc. It may be that, once you are stable, you will get weaned to something you can take for longer term.
Hey dr_god - If I add a word in UpperCase and another in LowerCase they are shown as I add them - not all in one standard case

What I really want is it to really, really accept a word and KEEP it! That 400+ puzzle I worked on for hours and at the last minute it decided to erase a word it had accepted hours before! Finally found it at 1 min to 12. Did not make it. Pissed me royally!

I did that by using your wonderful list! You said there was an extra word and when I found that and all the others I had 140! Unfortunately it vanished later, perhaps because the missing word was a French curse word? I don't see the archives on my computer, I only get code on the page so I was very surprised to see my name in the chat log with that info. :o)

dr_god - a GREAT feature would to see the current score of your Friends!
I do log in evey day. Well, either me or my other half. We come in first thing to get the grid, and the stats. Those then get put down onto paper, mostly for me to peruse when I emerge and have cup of tea no 1 and 2. Once I've solved most of the grid on paper, we or I then go to chat log. When there are very few to go we might then go to list, usually BJ's (no slight to Lickety, we've just got used to going to B's list). That way, we can check what we are missing and then get most of the rest of the words on paper. Then comes asking for clues on the log. Failing that, if we still feel the need tp finish, one of the word finders.

I do see how once you get used to something that it's hard to change. If you feel there could be a better way to satify everyone's needs, I'm sure Dr_God would seriously consider it. Best to do it via email though. Priority at the moment is bugs.

Don't you think most people resist change? I remember the last change there were a lot of people that did not care for it. As soon as they got used to it all was fine.

I tend to keep the page full size, but shrink Lickety's list down and move it around - that's on the old site, I'll need to experiment with the new.
haz are the icons smaller as well, when your tired the last thing you need is smaller things, make them BIGGER

Right, I've now transferred onto the new site. I like the fact that you can see the stats on the same page and that there is a scroll thing on the words list. The combining of other resources will have to be juggled with.

The new site is a lot less visually pleasing ... I don't find it any harder to use, but it looks so .... *busy*. At least you can hide the stats by adjusting the window.

This is confusing, it had taken me ages to read all the chat log, and I have just had a look at the new version,but I don't think I like it, I'm with Jacula. The icons are part of the fun, but no fun if you can't see them. and I can't have the grid and the chat log on screen together, it is too wide. I won't be able to test the fireworks because this grid is far too large

And do I have to refresh for it to tell me when I've chalked up another word for a specific letter? (if that makes any sense)

TY trishtrash! Just solved the problem - cilcked the add to favourites button and typed in beta.playbabble.com - it has added it - will log out & try again now.
It's the "return to enter" in the log that is causing the problem - if you left the cursor in the log box on the old site, it didn't matter if you typed a word in the wrong place and entered it
It Is hard to rmember - must train myself up to use the add button instead. Have mamnaged to add this site to my favourites using the method below tho' so one success this morning

I agree aknitter! I think this is a much better way of looking at the puzzle... I used to flip around between stats and words all the time... now can just look at the one thing!! I love the fireworks!! Just the perfect way to end it! And having the chat lot off to the side is much better, but would like the icons to be bigger... it has become an important part of the community. Thanks so much Jamie!! Great Job, well done!!

You can choose chatterbox, who's online or my friends. Opt for chatterbox and there's a little box for typing in.

I've noticed one possible flaw in the beta. I have to manually switch back to the "add word" box -- at one point I started entering a word and was going to automatically hit 'enter' as usual, when at the last second I realized I had entered the word into the chat log. On the other hand, I had to manually switch at the old site, it was just easier to do since I was forced to scroll up and down.
Jera, if you want to play, why not log in to the old site? Or is that not working for you either?

One of the reasons the old site was so slow as because of the buddy icons. Shrinking them was a priority, unfortunately. I will be adding "full res" versions of icons to the profile page, however.

CAitlyn -- there should be a scrollbar at the bottom of the window you are working in. But it sounds like you have a smaller monitor than Dr_G allowed for -- if you can change the resolution to something like 1024 x 768 it would work better

It's not just a matter of how long we've been playing, but also a matter of convenience. I find the new stats grid harder to read and I liked being able to split the grid and have the grid and the chat log side by side with my excel list that I make up from Brandyjack's stats.

I am not in beta -- I found that it was very distracting to have the automatic refresh that flashed. Also my computer kept saying that the program was using a lot of memorry, so I swiched back to the regular and it is there I am not seeing most of the icons.
I had to do some convincing too -- we are on a really tight budget, but if I live as long as my ancestors, it will work out to about 25 cents a year! LOL

Not using the Beta version any more. Used it this morning (my morning, i.e. 9 hours ago), but it caused my laptop to abort.
I prefer Linux for most things, but for some reason my laptop stopped dual booting... my Tom's the tech and he hasn't fixed it for me yet :-(

Stidmama, I am not a techie -- I was a systems analyst who looked at the computeras a black box and designed systems for the user that were user friendly. I'd love it if yourTom could tell me how to have both systems working on the computer. Since I retired, I don;t have the technical support I used to have.
ARB~ Don't fight it! You should partition the hard drive on one of your boxes (I'm assuming you have more than one) and try Ubuntu (I'm using hoary hedgehog-and I like it!). As a spoon-fed Microsoftie of many years, I was afraid to make the switch. But I wouldn't go back now!

Oh! Good news on Mom. She's out of the hospital! They have a hospital bed at home for her, which will help the comfort levels A LOT, and they figured out what was wrong. She has fluid in her spine. Unfortunately, they just have to wait for it to be absorbed, but there is pain management options. Starting with the hosptial bed. :-) She just got home this morning.

Incidentally, my heart is very full, having just watched on the news the court decision re Moussaiw (sp?). He says he has "won" and the U.S. has lost, but the exact opposite is true, and I'm very proud that the States has made a just, fair and decent decision with regard to his fate. Just a Canadian take on what is after all really a world affair by now. As I see it there is no room left for revenge and hatred, and the bereaved have said it very well in the newscast I watched. On the larger puzzles I split my screen so that I have the chat log, grid and words I have on oneside and Brandyjack's list on the other -- can't do that with the new layout so a lot of flipping back and forth (don't think I'll bother with the biggies once the new format is permanent).
I also find that the new colours are very hard on the eyes.

I wrote to Dr God, but want to ask you guys too. I have always done the puzzle by first getting what I can on my own and then going back through the log from the earliest entries to the most recent, looking at clues and trying them out. In order to do that I need to be able to see the whole log And enter words at the same time. Am I right that this is no longer possible in the beta version, that I have to flip back and forth between the "view entire chat log" page and this one? if so, a lot of the fun of it seems gone.

Both WI words relate to a certain body type - really lean and wi**. The 6 is when it's more WI than another. and the 7 is when it's the WI of all...
