i'm really enjoying living abroad; it's great experiencing different cultures
no it was pretty empty. i'd like to see that.
oh, are you american ardilla?
italian is a lot like spanish, pretty easy to pick up
are you anywhere near Stresa, ardilla?

sunday afternoons are usually packed

we were there sunday about 7
yes
omg YES !!!! a friend of mine used to live on that block so there was always the option of crashing at her place in case there was too much um-pah!
s. I'm about an hour from Venice
i really miss it, though my parents always said there were nazi meetings in the basement~
why a squirrel?
how come your' e in italy (is htat too personal? just curious (and jealous)
4 words short of passing halfway - too tired to continue & this grid is boring to me for some reason {shrug} laila tov, night, all.
lol ls1 !!! i wouldn't know anything about that, lol !
I don't know where Stresa is.
military

hi everyone--goodnite, PIng. No luck w/ the su8?
halfway! mediocrity attained! bath, bed, & Beyonnnnnnnnd! happy zzzzs all.
lol melon - gnight
ls1 - i grew up with that too - polish, both spent time in camps
good night melon
got the su 8 - it's a newish name for a tuberous vegetable - a speciality item.
are they still around helen? there are so few camp survivors left, i wish they could all travel and lecture. it was so powerful to me as a kid to meet people with tatoos!
i just bought the book 'night' - never read it
i'll stick around if another clue is needed.
saw elie on oprah, visiting ausch. very moving.
hi, many survivors where i live. they are getting old. one woman i am close to is in failing health - i have tried to soak up her story. many have told to spielberg's shoah visual history project.
nope, it will be 20 years next year since they died - i remember every time they met someone like at funerals or wedding, the first question always was 'what did you do during the war?'
my father is 84 and just started talking about his war experiences this year.
those must be amazing stories - that shoah project is amazing
but they talked all about it, whenever the mood hit, very important to talk about what happened, one time my mom & i were at 6 flags, we're sitting & drinking ice tea & she is telling me about being interrogated by the gestapo, with this whole carnival going on in the background - it was surreal
my grandmother was at Auschwitz and her sister was killed there. I visited the camp when I was 14.
ls1 - you encourage him to get it out, wow, how can he have kept that bottled up for so long?
its inconceivable to me how those people survived. i am a mess if i don't get a full night's sleep.
they really are hero's if you ask me
i will not go & see schindler's list because the clips i
ve seen look exactly like what my mom described happening to her - i think it would be too painful for me
he had a heart attack in december and i think he's realizing that he's got valuable stories and has something to share. my mother said he would wake up screaming for years after the war so she worked at getting him to repress. she's very healthy, no?
i agree debb - it's amazing so many have been able to lead 'normal' lives
I have visited Dachau many times as an American army spouse. We lived in Bavaria for four years and whenever anyone visited, that was the first site on the agenda. Very unnerving. My father served at Nurnburg during the trials.
oy - i'm glad he's getting to share now - so hard to have that all botled up
thats understandable helen. i think the rest of us owe it to those who survived and died to see it tho.. to not let the story fade
LOL ls1 - it's good to find humor ! although i think it must have been very frustrating for your mom, psychotherapy & pts not so popular back then
speaking of Auschwitz drkaito - my dad was invited by the leutenant leading the troops into there just after it was liberated. he was the only jew present, and among all the other horrible things he saw was some american soldiers lining up the german officers and shooting them. they then gave swords, etc to my dad.
the 1st time i saw my neighbor's tattoo i almost passed out. it made so real the idea that one person reduced another to a thing, a number.
oh my gosh Is1
wow -
not all American soldiers did that though. A friend of ours that helped liberate Dachau said that he stopped other soldiers from killing the Germans. He said that killing them would have reduced our soldiers to their level. What a horrible position to be in...
i wish my mom had written this stuff down - she was starting to dabble in composition when cancer attacked her - i really need to write down everything they told, many horrible stories
you should helen -
i'm not sure what's worse.. that it all happened to begin with, or that history IS repeating... in rwanda, darfur, etc.
my mom's camp was liberated by the british
there's a great documentary called paperclips about the school in tennessee or somewhere that worked to collect 6 million paper clips so they could understand the number. it's an amazing piece - really moving when you listen to the survivors
you'd thnk people would learn - but they really dont'
i'm sure there are british records somewhere - my dad was in siberia at the start of the war, i doubt they kept records on that!
yes ls1 - i've heard of that!
my mother writes down everything about my grandparents and has pages and pages of their stories. My grandfather, who was in the Polish army, passed away in October, and constantly spoke of how it was in Europe during the war. He was under General Anders and met my grandmother in Italy, where they were married. Later on, they came to the United States through England in 1950. My grandmother, on the other hand, never speaks of her past.
NOOOOOOO WAY DRKAITO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's hard to document all of it helen. my sister is a journalist and even she hasn't begun writing
you're really lucky drkaito
my dad fought under anders too - at monte cassino!!!!! my parents also met in italy briefly during the war - met again in london afterward , got engaged & got married !!!! WEIRD !!!!!!!!!
wow - small world!!
it's a tiny tiny world :)
omg...yes, monte cassino!!!!!!
drk - my dad & your grandfather must have known each other !!!!!!!
cool you two!
helen is your dad still around?
both my parent died in 1987 (i think the camp experience greatly contributed to early deaths)
ohhh that is Too bad
drk - i wish we had this conversation last year - i would love to have met your grandfather !
drkaito - where do you live?
I bet they did!!! That is so neat!!!
I live near Chicago
OMG!!!
Oh - do you and helen know each other IRL already?
I LIVE IN CHICAGO !!!!!!
everyone who met my grandfather absolutely loved him!!!! He was the best person ever!
cuz i was just gonna say - She lives in chicago! ;)
Oh, how cool
I live in Northwest Indiana near Chicago
i think i see a playdate in the making ;)
where do you live drk -whic suburb?
lol saintfranny
schererville
wow - this conversation has made me stop babbling it's so interesting!
:( that is not close - i live on the northwest side
lol debbinia me too
is your family from schererville?
Ohhhh for HEAVEN'S SAKE Helen!! it's close enough! you two exchange emails and make this happen! we're all counting on it now! ;)
and we need t hear all about it!!
oh, okay that's not too far. We're about 45 minutes from downtown. My husband drives to chicago daily
my family is from East Chicago, IN
my husband grew up in gary
how do u play this game
it really is kind of odd. when i was a kid growing up in the 50s, really the war was kind of just over. And, in south Texas anyway, none of the men talked about it. It was like they had taken some sort of mutual oath to forget the whole thing.
you two need to get together so helen can read your mom's stuff
All dese folks from Da Region!
drkaito - yes, franny is right - e-mail me at helenkeller@mychi.com & we can continue this - i would be interested in reading what your mom has written !
how do you know about da region bash!
lol ls1 - stop reading my mind, please !
I'm from Muncie, IN originally...close enough to know about da region!
Omg Bash - i'm from anderson ;)
live in rhode island now.. but lived in SF for 2 years
come on!!!!
LOL! It's a hoosier fest!
:) how old are you bash
okay, I will. Next time I see my mom I will mention to her about this. I'm sure she would love to email you herself. My mom is 53 years old and knows much more than I do about my grandparents. Can I give her your email address?
lol - this small world syndrome is TOO funny!
nis1508...click on help at the top of the page for directions. If you need any more help after that, just ask...
YES PLEASE drk - i am so psyched!!!
I'm 42, franny
hello
sounds like you guys should blog this
i'm 40 did you go to ball state?
i am close to your mom's age, but on the better side of 50 :)
good helen, and when we meet in the dog park you'll tell me all about it!
good idea ilandrah
Ball Stae, and Muncie Central.
hi all!
Wowza. were you in any sorority?
Nope. Was too busy geeking out at the radio station. U?
I know, I can't believe that they were both under Anders!!! That is so amazing
why am i stuck in a library with 2 very noisey people
I wonder if they came to the usa on the same ship too.
coolio. i worked in the telecommunications office my freshman year. i was in alpha sigma alpha
hey all
hi MG26 and nite all...I got stopped at 83 with all the good chat, "see you" later.
have you been on the ellis island website - you can look all that stuff up
drk - when your mom e-mails me, tell her to refer to babble & your name here- although i'm sure i will know who she is by what she's going to write about :) - yes, drk - that really is amazing, do you know if your grandfather also fought in the middle east & north africa too?
my parents came here from london in 1952, i know my dad came first & found a place for them to live & then sent for my mom
I'm pretty sure that he was in the Middle East, but I don't know about Africa. My mom knows what ship they came on as well as the date.
bash - where in SF do you live? we had a shoebox in Pacific Heights. i miss it soooo much. best city in the country
drk and helen - i'll bet the info on whether they were together at any time is easy to get from the military records
debb - no, i haven't - that's a great idea - never even thought of that
see you times up at library. have fun
My houseguest is finaly about to arrive, so I must say goodbye. Nice to chat with all you midwesterners. Thanks also to those sharing their family stories - hard ones to hear, but as was said, really important to remember...
it's a great website and i found my grandparents - great aunts and uncles - it's really amazing - they have ship manifests, all this paperwork
my dad used to tell a story about shaking the shah of iran's hand - of course, the shah (reza pahlavi) was a little boy at the time
ok bash... cheers
nite bash
good night bash
good nite bash - thanks for the kind words :)
thanks deb - i'm going to visit it tomorrow
Hey Marcellas! are you here?
Debbinia - you're so lucky you had enough info to find all that info. i want to track my geneology, but my stupid family didn't keep very good records
I've loved your moving stories. I did find the su8--that tuberous veggie--if you need a hint--I'm about to go to bed.
mirandapan - hint please :)
ok - it is 1:30 and i have 130 words - i can't focus on the grid, so i'm going to call it a night
nite helen.
goodnight helen - great convo tonight!
drk - it was a true pleasure to meet you :))))) i will look forward to hearing from your mom!
It's a combo word of that orb that shines during the day, plus the ending of a veggie that you peel the leaves off of and dip in butter
wow great clue. never heard of that!
tx miranda
goodnight Helen!! Yes, it was a pleasure to meet you too!!! Hope to talk to you soon!
good nite franny good nite ls1 - yes, i also am looking forward to the dog park, maybe one day soon:)
i was lucky - althogh they website makes it pretty easy to search - i 's amazing to see my grandmothers name on a manifest and see my great uncle who sponsored her coming over here -
yep--I'm gonna have to see if I can find one in the produce section.
Morning all
good night helen !
mornin' sprite. as in, truly. it's 2:30 am!
8.30 am here :) Arghhhh... 13 K-words?????
i'm going to say goodnight too - thank you for letting me hear your stories - and i look forward to hearing about you guys getting in touch!!
nite deb
morning all :)
Hi Ata *hug*
hey sprite, ata!
mtnjock! That's a long time ago!
hi mtnjock!
been working weird hours, and only getting in the chat when I have time, but 13 K words!!!!! had to go blech as well
sted
That one is valid ;)
Almost, hehe
It didn't take... :(
true
No, needs another vowel.
this is going to be a grid of almost words, I can tell ....
Yesterdays' was bad in that respect :D
got it, ty
Is it a sign of desperation to try knach?
yeppers, so was saturday's
and why isn't tonka a real word?
Oh dear god, I found a K7 all by myself!
woot!
I am pretty sure 'orante' is a word. It is a way to hold your hands up in blessing.
hello all! discovered babble a few days ago... addicting is too mild for this game
True, st.ria
Morning all Those k's are something else, I only recognise 2 of them. :(
I still have to find 6 more :( Hi FMitch :)
Hi everyone, welcome st ria, very addicting!! I wonder how many times I will continue to try to use honcho?
Hi Cat! As many times as I will try un + C7, I am afraid.
LOL sprite! Hello !
oh yeah ... that doesn't work, doesn't it!
It sounds perfectly common and it just won't take :(
I kept trying koran....won't take it, but it will if you change a vowel in it.
"All was burnt out completely, but he left the scene un + C7/40" Sounds okay, doesn't it?
There are lots of almost un words, so far I've only got one to take.
silly ucky K's, ugh!
I have Un6/24 and un7/56 so far.
sounds fine to me sprite
Cat, that k5 you have can be expanded to a 6 & 7
care to clue those sprite? I haven't reached the un's yet :)
got the 6/24
Un6: get out of the box Un7: get a breather again
Thank you FM! You too sprite!
Morning all! How's the grid?
morning Matty!
Tricky, but fun.
Good morning all - I'm ready to see what the grid contains.
3 more Ks needed. Slowwwwly but surrrrrely....
Hey Haz*hug*
Grid contains too many hidden words today Haz!
Good morning sprite - are you well?
Got your box un, but looking for the breather one...
Most words are hiding behind almost-words
Good morning FMitch - the sun is shining here so it will illuminate the way. Is it still raining with you?
In Holland it is a beatiful November day.
Glad you have the sun, it stopped raining during the night but not very bright and quite chilly. LOL sprite!!!
once you have found the un7 add a letter to the start of it for the 8.
matty: un + C5/22, think of when you want to start driving your car, you have to use the C5. If you don't want to drown the engine, you need to Un7 later.
So is there hope for Wimbledon to see some more tennis than yesterday?
Can you hint again the un7? I have 'take a breather again'...
Thanks FMitch! Now that is a strange word!
They are being optomistic re Wimbledon today.
Thanks sprite!
Hey, that 8 is a vegetable!
OK the eight is a VERY silly word.
Is it? A veg? What's it look like? Does it look like an arte...
yes, it's a real word!
So if I get the grid finished early there may be a chance to see some tennis - that's an incentive.
Go for it Haz
It does, matty. It is a Jerusalem variety of that one.
Finally finished the k's
I have TWO of the ks. *sigh*
Have we heard how mrpresident is doing after the football?
I need 2 more Ks still.
HAven't seen her on yet today.
The k's are difficult matty, my monkey found some though, and FM clued me to a couple, thanks FM :)
yw Cat
Cat, I have Ke, Kh x 2, Kn x 5, Ko x 3. Would you please tell me what the other 2 start with?
2 regluar words we can always rely - the volcano and pl.
The stock cube people aren't allowed anyway.
The volcano was missing yesterday! An event ;)
you need 2 more kn sprite
there is another kn4
sorry sprite, I was watching the news.
yes, 2 more kn's sprite, sorry
Thanks FMitch, and np Cat :) Found them, greyed out the K, I am a happy girl now :D
how u doing sha
only 34 words so far
yay sprite! :)
66 going now see u soon
kk
phantomword of today: severe
true but knock off a letter for a 5
Oops. Sorry, did not mean to put such an almost-word in the log :(
plural that too sprite :)
tis ok sprite, almost doesn't count :)
lol, thanks :)
no, dank u!
Back shortly
bye Haz :)
Me too, I am hungry. Guess breakfast is in order.
bye sprite, we will hold down the fort! :)
127 words left bbl bye
bye sha!
odd, ok4/9, new one to me, the spelling, not the meaning
Now I have 5 ks...and no As!
You can throw an 6/24 overboard or hoist it.
ahh, thanks svso!!!
great spotting that word, I sure missed it!
Oooh - fab svso!
I soooo want an i to add to that bottom row.
those o's are killing me, I have one so far, I must be blind or else they are oddities.
There is an or4/5
thanks sprite for pointing that out to me :) Yep, I must be blind tonight.
;) Aren't we all!
lol
did you get the odd ok4/9? Odd spelling, not meaning. At least to me.
Yes, I have that one. Looks like a word from India, but it isn't.
sure does doesn't it.
There used to be a record label with the ok 4/9 name. It specialized in blues.
Interesting svso, thats a new one to me too.
Worst phantomword for today: deterrant!
But it's spelt with an e instead of an a at the end.
lol, that would be the worst, but the last half is a word!
Thanks Haz, I'll remember :)
And did you try harvest too?
missed harvest, stuck on otter now
I thought scarved would be acceptable, as in wearing a headscarf, but apparently not.
and un-tr4/5
Lol, yeah, that too.
Real life is forcing it's way into the day. Must go and attend to it. Bye for now.
You would think it would be Haz
bye FM, have a great day!
Don't let it interfere for too long! See you FMItch.
How unconsiderate of real life! Good luck and see you later :)
*inconsiderate
true
sorry!!
How cruel of them to put that in the bottom row and omit the i.
tis okay, Hey Jemma!
Hello Jemma - I just thought you were agreeing with sprite!
so did I Haz!
:)
isn't reved a word, as in reved a car, or would that be double v?
It would be double v.
That's with double v, I think, yes.
thanks sprite
what happened then?
Oh, by the way. Hello Everyone!!How is everyone?
What do you mean, Jemma?
they won't accept ancho a perfectly good kind of chile.
Hi Jemma
Don't worry, it was probably just my computer??
Jemma, I'm very well. How are you?
Pretty Good!!!
The site is laggy here, perhaps with you too?
what does laggy mean?
Are you just beginning or have you found some words already? The site is taking a while to accept words, is that what was happening with you?
slow, Jemma
Thanks Cat!!
Haz- it said something like refresh the page???
you're welcome Jemma :)
There was obviously something more complicated going on with your computer. I hope it gets sorted out.
Yeah, its ok now
How many words today??
There are 203 words today.
Ok better go!!
203 words
Bye!!
bye Jemma
See ya!
Bye Jemma.
hi, any clues for the 8 letter?
Hi, su8/75, not the moon but the *** + a California native veggie, the arti*****, which is also ch5/22
Jerusalem tuber
groups of four worth 32
Do they taste any better than the Jerusalem variety?
thanks. is it a food?
yes, it is :)
This is the Jerusalem variety.
HAz they are the Jerusalem variety. Just another name to try and sell more.
Never had one, but we grow arti****** here like crazy, not that variety though.
Well, put any name on it they like, I'm not buying!
NOt related to artichokes. Its a tuber. tastes like a potato, only sweter.
Oh my, I LOVE them, my fav veggie. Loads of mayo, and I'm in heaven!
How can there be 8 more S-words???
schnarrst - had to get it out of my system. Morning all! It's not even reallly a german word, but it certainly looks like one!
Don't know, I have 6 left and stuck.
Hi Amanda
It does, amanda! What would it mean? I submit : german verb for making snoring sounds at night, combined with grinding teeth.
That man would sleep alone.
Ich schlafe allein, weil er schnarrst.
It's certainly something along those lines, Sprite - combined with dragging something noisy over the floor
It may not be valid, but you win the originality award for today, amanda ;)
Ich schlafe allein, weil du schnarrst maybe? then at least the -st ending works LOL
A fellow language pedant!
Thank you, thank you - wow! go Ata! wasn't going to bother correcting the conjugation, I figured no one would know anyway!
su6/33, odd word and no meaning listed on dictionary. It is su4/9 + the alien **. Anyone know what it means?
You never know who you're dealing with on babble, amanda!
he he I'm just picky picky!
Su6: 1. something, esp. something to eat. 2. a table delicacy; fancy tidbit of food.
hmmm, where did you find the meaning sprite? I clicked on the ? by the word.
yes cat... "I had a long putt and I su****!"
On of my favorite sites: http://www.infoplease.com/
Hey, it actually is a word! I thought it sounded too familiar so I googled it: it means "to burr" as in make a scottish r sound, and it also seems to be a problem with guitar strings and sound cards
LOL Bambam.............Thanks sprite, I will bookmark that site.
LOL Bambam!
Great, amanda. Give back that award!
haha hello ladies.... just about to knock off work,,,, and thought i'd have a look! anyone got ra6,21?
Ra + certainly.
not I, Bambam.
Any hints on the na 6/30?
Ok, here's the award back - I'll see what else I can come up with
thanks Sprite... feeling very ra6,27y!
na6: alt. spelling for a congenital pigmented area on the skin : birthmark, mole; especially : a tumor made up chiefly of blood vessels
The plural has been in the grid a couple of times recently as well (na)
evening all, hope your all well tonight
Hi Arisha
thats a pretty popular babble word at the moment, isn't it? the plural, I mean
Good evening Arisha.
It is, Ata. Somehow the singular looks strange, though.
nice icon arisha!
Yes - it appeared a couple of times in a row.
LOL @ that icon!
Can't agree about the icon.
i still didnt' get that na6,30 sorry !!
na plus the first two letters of Adam's partner, then you and me.
Great clue, Haz.
thanks Haz... i wouldn't have got that in a millenium
or4,5?
Ah good, it has worked!
Fireworks for me! Any clues needed before I split?
yay sprite!!!
ev7?
Congratulations sprite! I'm doing this at a rather more sedate pace.....
wow sprite nice work!! or4,5... all the ko's... un6,24...!!
Or + commercial
Thanks Sprite. Hint on the ra 6/27?
yay sprite!
Looks like you're going to be here for a while sprite, judging from all the clues needed!
ev7 = someone who overturns things. E + french green + word that connects sentences
ARB rhymes with what the space shuttle does after the countdown... and means suggestively sexy without the Y
Ra6/27 + ra5/14 with another vowel inserted.
Thanks Bambam & Sprite
Un6/24 : take the box off
And all the Ks is a bit muchish :)
tks sprite, for all the clues :)
sweet thanks sprite
Or5/14 is Or + pain minus last letter
Anything else?
ko+past tense of ran, add a vowel at end for ko6/33 and then plural that for ko7/48
thanks Cat
Happy hunting all and have fun :)
you're welcome Bambam, i said trhe past tense thing wrong, but glad you go it, I'll blame the vicodin, tooth ache here.
bye sprite!!!
kn7,48?
Thanks sprite and have a good day!
kn7/48, past tense of kn4/8
Toothache is nasty Cat - do you have to see the dentist?
Yes I do Haz, it has been testy lately and now I think I have an abcess starting. Have to call in the morning
I hate dentists, I put off what I shouldn't.
I have a feeling the pain from the abcess would be worse than anything the dentist would do! My husband had to have root canal treatment recently and it has worked a treat.
Did you get that last clue Bambam? Need more of a clue?
i got it thanks a lot!
Hi Cat. the Ko 7 clues doesnt work.
I'm almost afraid to ask, but how many are we looking for today?
203 today
isnt the vowel at the end the 5th vowel?
Thats what I think I need Haz, a root canal. But all they will do at this point is give me antibiotics till the infection goes down, then root canal.
The ko clue worked for me. It's the present tense of the moving swiftly word and the first vowel at the end Preethi.
Oh dear - that's what I was afraid of - monkeys are going to get a good workout today!
ko + ***, Forrest, ***!
the vowel goes on the end of the ko6/33, then plural that for ko7/48
hello Bambam
Hi Mum, 4 mins til I can get the flock outa here (work)....
At least the antibiotics will give some relief, along with the painkillers. Hope you feel better soon.
shame about the aussies last night.... they put up a good fight (in the world cup)
Got it. Thanks Cat, Haz
Thanks Haz, vicodin works great for the pain, but tends to make me nauseos. It's trade off I guess :)
have a nice evening all, got 31 to do tomorrow..... that'll do me cheers!
you're welcome Preethi, bye Bambam
Bye Bambam.
bye Bambam
Bye Bambam
There are a few babblets in the grid today. an4/9, Egyptian symbol of life, an5/10, cavern, ro4/4 (unit of weight, decay plus a consonant) sa5/10 looks like a male saint.
and the volcano
and the poker money
Thanks Haz, didn't have one of those :)
Must see if I have any poker money.
what exactly is a babblet? Never quite understood that.
babblet = words that no one has ever heard of, but determinedly show their ugly faces in the grid (sometimes not quite so ugly...)
I suppose a babblet would be defined as a word which appears reasonably often in the grid, is probably never used in normal life and is slightly oddly constructed.
Thanks Haz :)
...so often that we've come to recognize them immediately
Thanks amanda :)
no prob!
There's a fish in the grid - I thought it was just extra well done barbeque food. (ch5/14)
The poker one is a babblet? Thats used alot in real life. At least for poker players :)
And the plural fish is there as well ch6/24
yeah, you're right cat - it's not really a babblet
and if that fish is overly grilled is there too
I didn't realize that was a fish, Haz. Interesting.
Ah - I always think of the poker word as latin 'before'. I had a sheltered background.
I grew up in a house of poker players, now my Son plays, that and pool and darts. He is in so many leagues it makes my head spin.
See what an educated game poker is! The terminology is even Latin!
lol, true amanda :)
Maybe it all started in the days of ancient Rome...
He has a baby coming soon, in 4 weeks. I assume his idle time will be lessened. :) We will see how he fits all his "games" in after the baby!
Do you live close enough to be able to see the baby often?
poker, pool, and darts - my midwestern protestant family would be appalled! Only thing not on the list is evil, evil pinball!
Yes I do :) They live less than 10 minutes away.
That's good - I'm sure you're looking forward to the new arrival. It's the circle of life, isn't it?
LOL, guess he "missed" pinball! He just came back from a statewide yearly tournament last night, darts. He did pretty good, trophies and some cash :)
Oh yes Haz :) My first Grandbaby, I am very excited!
127 and thoroughly stuck - don't even know what to ask for!
He is a "serious" player, on all counts.
I have 22 left, and I have come to a standstill. Not feeling well, so think I will finish tomorrow. Try and get some sleep. Bye Haz and Amanda :)
I'm at 122 amanda and wondering where the rest can be! I'm going to take a break and come back to it later. And I do hope you feel better soon Cat!
See ya, Cat! Hope you feel better soon
thanks amanda, bye
thanks Haz!
oh dear, is everyone leaving?
good morning everbody:)
Hi Jean! I think we might be alone here
oh no lol have they all left
no...not quite alone....hello to both of you :)
hello karys
hello everyone!!
hello louie29

how many o's and u's are there?
4 'o's and 8 'u'us
thx karys - that should keep me busy for a while
oooo this is an evil grid - Sauron is in it!
and his orcs nearly are as well
they were there yesterday ... maybe that was a sign!
there are so many 'nearlies' !!!
mordor was in recently as well
Moria was there yesterday, I think, too
I must have tried 'nerve' a dozen times and , strangely, it still isn't there
I give up - list time for me...
My phantom word today is hotel.
back in a bit :)
bye karys

Good Morning all...oh my 13 K's!!
Hi Unicorn, Hi Kallia
hi amanda how are you today?
should I have started this grid?
Hi all, it's all a bit hard work today!!!
gee thanks FMitch :)
Ok, thanks - resorted to the list at about 150 - hi tch!
*Mitch
im just trying to stay inside and cool off today
LOL np amanda. Sorry Kallia, there are some great words, its just recognising them that is my problem today :)
Where abouts are you Unicorn, I can't remember.
Italy
well maybe milne too. Am on limited time today I have no idea why my fingers started entering before I had even looked at it properly!
it's 91 degrees F today
its damp and chilly here
Phew that is way too hot for me. Mind you UK has gone the other way and I have a jumper on today.
the heat isn't bad i'm getting used to it it's the humidity that get's to me
yes dry heat is a lot easier to cope with.
im originally from a cold climate so it's all differnt for me here LOL
HAs everyone got the lovely s8 word, it's my fav so far
i just started
hey everyone, what the word count for today ?
Ah OK, I am going to hunt some more words, still got 56 of the darn things to find.
hey everyone, what the word count for today?
203 today
203
hi everybody !
hi aqua
Hiya everybody....good luck to you all....
is this one going to be a challenge?
Yes aqua, it is a challenge but it's fun too so dive in.
I am through the v's and u's... except for the un6/21
un +t4/4 = un6/21
Am i missing something on the s8 word
untrue
thanks FMitch
smokey It has turned out to be an unusual (for most of us) vegetable. If you have the u7 just add a letter to the start of that.
Finished - must be off. Have fun all!
Woohoo amanda bye!
chase
Oops thanks Flask1 - I didn't have that one.
thanks FMitch, found the 8 nad the 7 :)
welcome!....lolol
WTG K:)
strange 7 though lol
has anyone ever got them all?
morning all!
Yes but I couldn't do it without the help of the 2nd letter lists, always need them for the last few words.
morning Grace
good morning grace
Hi Grace
vees
LOL - you gotta remember to move your cursor!!!
I know!
can I please have help with tr5/18, the second one
wish I could understand all these numbers you keep mentioning?
got it
tr 1st 2 letter of word, 5 = 5 letter and 18 = tile score. It might help you to have a look at Angelsongs link below in Friends of Babble.
thanks for that!
Good morning everyone. I'm finding this a horrible grid! Is it just me?
Hi Eva! It is going slower than I hoped
I'm not loving this one either!
Hi Eva it's not just you
its a hard one!
I'm in Boston and on a diffreent computr and kept thinking maybe I just was't used to the screen
those to's were 'interesting'!
seant
oops!
has anyone asked about mrpresident? I haven't heard from her in a while...
MRP was on last night - not sure for how long
She was on yesterday but we haven't seen her since. Perhaps she is mourning Australia being out of the world cup.
lol....
Eva, what are you doing in Boston?
We still have an apartment here, so I'm doing some business and visitng friends. Boy it's hot and humid down here. Haven't been since Octobe and forgot also how noisy it is and how it doesn't get dark at night. But am enjoying myself, and looking forward to going to the MFA and eating lots of Indian and Thai food.
Hello again all. Eva, it sounds like you're having hot food as well as hot weather!
hi Eva!
the best thing to have when it gets steamy
hi Atalante!
Oh that all sounds good Eva. Yea, big cities never truly get dark. HAve they finished the big dig yet? Hey Haz and Ata
I haven't checked re the BIg Dig-but I assume not-everyone here knows that it will never be finished and the major repairs have been going on for years already. Merp goes bonkers when we drive through the tunnel under the water...I think he knows something.
favorite Thai in Boston area?
There are many good ones, but one of my favorite is on Cmmonwealth Ave near BU-its called Brown Sugar.
Are you from the Boston area Grace?
LOVE Brown Sugar! Sugar and Spice on Mass Ave in Cambridge is great too.
Hi everyone. Babbling lunch break for me today - i have one hour only!
wow! all the T's, U's and V's down!!
formerly of Cambridge, yes.
where on Mass Ave Grace?
right near Porter Sq.
I've also been longing for the Pho Pasteur-no Vietnamese food in Montpelier
Hey Becca - good luck it's a bit bigger today and much more ornery.
absolutely... Pho is great... as is Elelphant Walk though that's much pricier.
Woah, yeah - I don't think I'll be completing it today
Love Elephant Walk, but too pricey except for special occassions. Have you ever been to the Helmand? Incredible Afghani restaurant over by where lechmere's used to be.
You guys are making me so hungry, think I better go and get some luch BBL
yes, went there once. This is making me so hungry!
Bye Fmitch!
Their bread is something else! Where do you live now Grace?
If you like Mexican...Ole! in Union Sq. is great...
Now I'm in Providence
Yup-another favorite. Did you ever go to the old Cottonwood when it was in Porter Square. Loved that, but the one downtown is not as good and too trendy. oooh-providence-so you can go to Al Forno's anytime. Only wnet there once. I hear that Providence is really coming along. Is that true?
Please clue for the su8
aqua-think of a veggie that has a ch___ in the center and leaves you have to peel off. Then add the opp of moon in front
Yes, Providence has come a long way... lots of great restaurants and great old houses, museums, etc. Property taxes are some of the highest in the country though.
Add the moon opp in front of the ch5 that is
thanks, eva
thanks eva!
yr wlcm
if you take the first letter of you get a 7 too
i'm struggling on 107 - this one is hard!
YEAH got te A's done
same here sandr
I took the advice of mrp and working backwards... it is working well so far!
yeah, I'm fading fast with 103.
time for a bath and Merp feeding. See you later
bye eva
bye eva - i'm going too - maybe it will be easier later!
bye!
Well, I'm off as well. The words ARE there - it just takes time, determination and all available resources to find them! Have a good day - I'm off for a walk with the dog and then the hairdresser awaits this afternoon. Cue my husband saying 'But your hair has just got to a nice length...'
bye Haz
Phantom words, hotel and kettle
I keep seeing cause
sorry I meant CURVED
god i hate it when i watch a movie and it makes me cry

np Munner
I am blind to the sa5/10 ! any hint please?
Think of holy Mr. Claus
haven't gotten that far yet
thank you Munner
Any clues please for ra6/27
onto the R's! now
Finally hit the halfway point so I'm heading for BJ's list
ra6/27 = lewd (as in a movie, and usually with a y at the end).
thank you Charm
yw
thaks Eva
Make that Lickety's list since Bj's isn't posted. I usually go to bj"s cuz I can't just click back to Babble from Lickety's page.
*thanks*
Thanks Charm - that was my last word - FINISHED!
yay Gran.
thanks, Charm for the rqa6
Gran...have you found them all??
grrr
Munner - how can I change it for you?
WTG gran!
I don't know. I always have to go back to Favorites and click on Babble again from your site.
munner - when you choose the link choose "open in new window" by right clicking instead...?
so you want the page to change yeah? not in a new window? The image on the right at the top showing babble takes you back to babble in a new window
Learn something new everyday. I am just not used to right clicking. Thanks. It works.
use firefox then you can do tabs!
I usually click on the babble icon in the top right corner and delete lickety to get back
yeah i do the tabs myself
Hello Hurshy, did you just drop in?
You can also hold down the shift key when you click - that will open in a new window too
well i've been here awhile but with chat closed so i could find words in the silence :)
and i said "grrr"
Thanks, everyone.
Aha, well I am giving it a break. German lesson at 9 a.m. Then back for more . See you later
is someone growling!
me me me
Yes, over in France. Could you hear it???
here hurshy, nice hurshy, have a biscuit *holds out dog treat*
(spain now actually)
My phantom word...Snort
*hurshy tilts head to one side. she IS hungry... but a dog treat?*
And knurd (the opposite of drunk, clearly)
i prefer drunk
don't worry hurshy, they're healthy
but tastelike shi*
well if anyone is curious, i said "grrr" because i really think unca6 should be a word. the turkey is whole, it hasn't been cut up yet, it is unca6. i thought i had found the 8 but nooooooooo
The eight is, apparently, a type of veg.
a type of vegetable! see, mine is way better.
i don't care if you grrrrr hurshy, long as you don't have rabies and bite
LOL, you are funny hate my life ;)
ok just to clear up any confusion... i am not a dog.
LOL
hey hurshy, nice doggie!
thanks aqua spring!
hey ata :)
well I got all the ca's out of the way
bbl - 99 words on the babble grid....
where are you?
don't you think my 8 is better than whatever the real 8 is? oh, i'm in barcelona - it's siesta time
*envy envy*
let's test the dog theory, holds out a tennis ball (witha a babble grid on it) *tosses ball*
The eight - what shines in the sky but has difficulty breathing.
you new aqua spring? i'm new-ish
thanks matty
... or just take the u7 and add a letter to the start of it!
matty - 1st 2 letters?
su
Yes, but I like my clue :D
what kind of word is that?
it's a great clue matty!
but let's have a vote, which 8 do you like better, su8 that they take, or my idea for un8 - the turkey not cut up yet.
Related to the jerusulem thing that sounds kinda similar
who cares!
Prefer the su8
thanks, matty - now I can really go in peace!
I am new! Have you been using the lists??
Like 'em both (from Fence Sitters Anon)
prefer the one sprite and I saw earlier that doesnt exist
hate my life - you sound grumpier than usual... did something happen about your enlistment?
i think i like hurshy's, mostly b/c i'm confused about the other
No terran!? Huh?!
not really aqua, i don't have enough time to finish a puzzle one way or another, so i just do without
no hurhsy, actually, i have an interview next week
ok good
keen to send me off to battle now?
matty knock off the last letter for a 5 and then play around with thendsin for 2 x 6/18s
lol, no, i just know you really want to do this
*the endings
yep, can't wait to get that uniform on, chix can't resist a guy in uniform.
or a guy out of uniform...
there are lots of almost words today, are YOU using the list aqua?
Cool, thanks F!
gotta get the uniform on first, then it'll be babe city
thanks for the clues fmitch
I started using the list today... I have finished so many words I would normally have missed! I am totally impressed with it
oh brother, hate you have a lot to learn
no arisha, it's true!
doesn' t mean their nice girls
aqua, i almost finished a puzzle with the list one day, but i didn't chat at all, so it was kind of boring like that
yw abe and matty
Of course, it's worth clearing up the gender of hate...
arisha, just looked at your pic, which category do you fall into???
hate my life, I have friends who hang around the docks for the sailors, and they are nice girls! Best of luck and have fun with your uniform!
won't be a sailor though, gonna be a marine! and matty - i'd be male
I used to be a sailor
just got back hate my life whats up with the uniform?
hopefully i'll be going into iraq - babble won't be following me there though
I heard a hilariuos joke about sailors and marines the other day
notify the president: the troops would be much happier if they had babble.
unicorn, i'm a future marine (hopefully) - and i've been running and working out every day to get ready for boot
phantom word: carrot
good luck with that my ex is a marine in Iraq and i'm airforce stationed in Italy
cool!
if you're airforce you should really be pegasus instead of unicorn
life is better with bbble
babble
i don't think i'll be able to do that later
lol i prefer the ground i just watch... lol
oh...are you a technician or something then?
phantom: chortle
yeah chortle is mine too
nah im an operator...
ut thats all i can say

hurshy, hey! where are you today?
i'm in barcelona. man, this guy gaudi was some interesting architect.
good morning all
'sit me, or is the site being a wee bit slow at the moment?
mine's fine
oh, Barcelona is so cool and Gaudi's cathedral is indeed "interesting"! :-)
all ok here matty.
hi mymuse!
not just the cathedral - we toured this house he built... he sure does like curves.
i adored barcelona....everything gaudi...have you been to parc guell yet, hurshy?
i remember the old quarter at night was sooo charming . . .
mmm... i don't think i have been to parc guell but i haven't caught the names of everything so i might have been and not know it. we are going to the old quarter after siesta time.
it's sort of on the other side of town and you have to climb a rather steep long block or two after you get off the bus..but is is SO worth it
in a virtual world I'd love to put Gaudi and Dali in a room together!
it would be a dizzying world
Gaudi, Dali and Mandelbrot even ...
dude, these k's are even harder than usual
phanton word kettles
I have three of the six Ks...
Hi Hursh. In honour of your Fire theme day I have put my workplace on my icon.
i only have two
there are 13 k's matty...
I have three of the six Ks...
oh is it my fire theme day - i haven't been keeping up with the themes...
matty is puzzling me. is there a hint there somewhere?
Yes, Hursh. It is.:)
well im going home for the day good luck to all and please have fun!!!
so what is your workplace and how does it fit for Fire day?
Bye Unicorn
Good morning, everyone =)
k4/9 - Aga K - think race horses. k4/8 - you might find one in wood in in a rope. k4/8 - a k4/8 in wood or a tree. k7 - k4/8'd wood.
Hursh - We build and repair fire appliances.
dorens, have you been hit by the storms i've been reading about this morning?
*or in a rope.
kapowee
we've had lots and lots of heavy rain
gm specificity
Jacula, I must be dince...but these clues don't make sense...
i live up on a hill, flooding isn't an issue
i've got a ke4/8 where you add a little preposition
matty our dragons want to battle
amazing the bldgs that were shut down in DC!
then i've got star trek 2, the wrath of...
Sorry Matty. They will make sense once you know 'em.
i've got another kh that adds french for "and"
Hi Everyone
got the SW K hurshy?
star wars even
hi everyone!
kn4 that rhymes with sc4 from an old wound, and past tense for a seven
hmmm ata i don't think i do...

Mace Windu's home planet

good morning une!
then add a letter for a 6 and pl for a 7
Is it a hard one looks it
tote
tiny, you are pro!
tote
the first 100 are easy, then . . .
Very Hard....
Yeah finally
cads
a knockout rush, atalante?
a knockout rush?
Sorry wrong box
what does that mean?
good hurshy, i'm not alone?
knockout + rush. a knockout is a **, and another word for rush
i thought that's what you meant by knockout but i was not sure about the rush bit
thanks
that still leaves 2 k's, sigh.
Do you have the kh that says "meow"?
mmm, do you just mean that the kh in question sort of sounds like the animal that says meow?
there are 7 kn's
then i miss 2 kn's
Yes, I do- the vowel is diff, tho.
sounds exactly like a meower!
There's a kn5/20 that rhymes with the plural possessive, and it can be pluralised for kn6/33
haz...which plural possessive?
nvm, i got it :)
yay for haz!
thanks haz
Or the kn that sounds like kn+ what belongs to us? (plus plural)?
You're welcome!
i don't understand. the siesta was the spaniards' idea, why are they hammering away during siesta time in a fancy hotel?
Maybe the workers aren't Spanish!
good point jaianniah
g'morning...not a good Babble omen? the first word I "see" is torture!
lol krista
if the workers are not spanish what would they be? and probably whoever TOLD them to hammer IS spanish.
Apparently, 'noon' in Crete (siesta and quiet time) last from midday to 5pm. You aren't supposed to call on anyone or ring them during that time unless specifically asked to.
krista, that's my phantom word!
krista, what's it like there today? I'm driving up to UMD to visit my daughter Thursday . . .
can I have a clue for the st6/27
st6/27 sounds like a boy's name but extra vowel
McQueen, aqua
+ plural
ata how far have you got?
oh thanks jaianniah!
and don't forget to pl it!
You too? I wonder if phantom words could be used a a Rorschach test of sorts? Like, troubled minds see the word torture first! Pfft!
74 left *sigh*
faffing and drawing i gather
Yes, I wondered about that! LOL
exactly :)
80 left here.
i never asked how many words today
203
203 hml.
i found you a present ata! i mean in addition to the oreos and caramel kisses
ouch!
Uneaixoise: it has been raining a lot, but so far so good today. I think it will rain on and off all week. Hope you have a nice drive, at least.
203 words - you may wish you hadn't asked!
i hope you like it and don't think it's cheesy
I don't know hate my life, but I need a clue for the ko6 if anyone would mind helping
awwwwww thank you!!!
i like the cat ata
don't thank me until and unless you actually like it
ko6/33 - to ko add a swiftly moving word, then a vowel
lol I like any presents
ko 6 sounds like what you see around the sun during an eclipse+ the 7 is the plural
it's 203 but i don't think it's that bad... i've got 29 left and i've used assistance for less than 5
oh, thanks jaianniah and Haz ! you are wonderful cluers!
oh golly
well, i have 15, so i think i'm doing pretty good
YW!
You're welcome aqua.
Aren't they just aqua!!!
12 5's and 11 6's in my last 28. why does this always happen
perhaps you should look at the list hurshy ??
I hate 5's, personally...
jaia's clues alway make so much sense to me
well i still have a while before we're supposed to go out again so i don't have to get the list quite yet
Phantom word - hotel.
TY< hate my life <blush>
No blushing!
sorry hurshy, I thought you were upset/complaining... it was just a suggestion to help
ch6/27 anyone?
oh no, aqua... babble is the sort of thing that... well it hurts so good, as the song goes
i dunno hurshy, if you're on vacation, which is what it sounds like, why dont you just use the list so you can enjoy your trip more?
ch6/27 - think singing.
Thanks, jai. I can take a break now that my k's have gone black and get ready for chemo treatment.
c+ ghostly activity
ch5/14 any help?
Repeated words in a song - ch6/27.
oh no munner!
there are a lot of ch5/14...
ty
Would the ch6/27 be used for a ghost that sings?
Thinking of you Munner.
YES!
the one after char
Thanks, FMitch. The one 3 weeks ago went pretty well.
sorry guys that is an easy one to get
hate my life - i did use the list the other 2 times i've babbled on the trip, cause i didn't have time. but now i DO have time. it's hot out and my husband is asleep. so...if i don't fill the time with babble...what will i do?
look out the window and admire the foreign land of course!
How is the trip going Hurshy
Right, I have to leave for the hairdressers. I hope all goes well with your treatment, Munner.
i can do both, hml :) it's going just dandy, tiny.
Later Haz
that is good to hear
thanks Haz, do something daring!
Munner, I will say a little prayer for you...
I'm taking a break with 71 to go. Hope your hair turns out okay, Haz.
munner, my thoughts and prayers are with you today.
Thanks, Annie. That helps on the rough days.
there is a da5 that rhymes with the ch6 mentioned previosly
jai, prayers of all sizes and shapes welcomes
K! It's on its way!
ah then i will say a big giraffe shaped prayer
good morning all -- will tackle a few this morning before I have to go to work.
LOL hurshy--My married name is Longnecker!!
wow, that is pretty clever of me then
munner, is that your first name too?
Everyone know how clever you are, hurshy
hurshy, you have special insight!
longnecker longnecker? that would be an unfortunate name.
Julia, but my grandchildren call me "Munner". Just having it for a last name is bad enough! Can you imagine the teasing my 3 sons and one daughter took with last name LONGNECKER???
oooo like your pic, Munner
the ch&'s are often in a ch6/27
that's a 6
no, I wondered if "munner" was the first name :) but I agree! Julia is much prettier
Imean a 7
I changed my icon but even though I refreshed I'm not seeing it yet ...
sometimes on this new babble you have to refresh more times.
Let me start over: the ch7 is often in a ch 6/27
ah, there it is
Then there's the "burnt" family- 4 of those
Really do have to start getting ready now. Only 36 left so will be back later. Carpe diem!
take care munner
Good Luck, Munner!
ooh hey did doc improve things? cause i didn't have to refresh to see your new pic ch1212!!!! used to be it didn't affect my view if someone refreshed their own icon
I don't know, hurshy - but I refreshed a couple times and then voila
has anyone else noticed that change? did anyone hear doc announce it?
nope
i'd always figured there just wasn't a way to do it... that is cool that he did it.
I have to go soon- anyone need a clue?

oh well one ra6 is a noun form of a word about things being bawdy
ra6 rhymes with da5; other one is ra+ a kind of deoderant
and i guess probably i am missing an ra6 then cause i have one other but it would be hard to imagine it would be described as one of the last 2, esp as there would only be 2...
deodorant
one is a type of dressing plus a vowel
i have that one, im trying to get my head around bawdiness at the moment... trying to think of synonyms
Hidden Valley ......+ last vowel
Deodorant Brand name
when you feel confident...
C's are all done!

Hi again stid

Hi stid. How are you feeling?
hi stidmama
hi leigh! hi musicmom! I am better and better -- just a teeny cough left over. The weather here is HOT!
It is hot and steamy here too Stid. Glad to know you are healing
ha 5/14 ghosts may ha 5/14 a house
thanks CadFan!!!!!
I got down to 100 left last night, just grabbed the list and entering things in before I start this morning. Grant's first day at music camp yesterday went well.
That's good to know stid. Does he play an instrument?
fiddle, and now trombone! :-)
wow excellent. Sarah play violin when she was really small but now she plays flute. Marching band begins at the end of the week
grant had "fife" lessons for a while, but it wasn't his thing. He is also not a piano player. Glad we found some instruments he enjoys. Matthew of course plays trumpet and piano...
that is very cool. Sarah didn't love the violin, she plays a little piano (enough to be passable) but she loves the flute. I think Hannah is going to follow her mommy's footsteps and be a vocalist more than anything else.
vees
verst
vert
vets
oh no!
LOL stid
*hangs head in shame*
Thanks I didn't hav eone of those

That's what they all say... =P
okay, I have all the words entered into the list. cursor now moves to the "add word" box.... *deliberately reaches for the mouse this time*
I HATE K words
today's k words are truly evil
I'm beginning to think there are no normal words in this one.
I got one K word, very normal. what happens to my yarn when I am trying to knit. :-)
i have 11 of the 13 k words and i've only heard of 2 of them ( i can clue if you want)
I got that one. I have 8 of them. I'm stuck on the series of kn words that come after the first 4/8
help on an 6/24 please!!!!!
yes please, abe!
it is what holds a ship in place
{{{{Stid}}}}
an 6/24 is what a ship drops in the water when it comes to rest...
sharidan - it holds your boat in place
there is a 5/20 that sounds like islamic scripture, then add a vowel, then plural
thanks all three of you......your're great!
:-D
That's a ko - I have that series.
I didn't, thanks abe!
yw. people gave great clues for all of these earlier. mm, do you have kh's? there is wrath of , then kh + our favorite spielberg alien
I do have the kh. It is kn words that are tripping me up thanks!
I got that first kh -- but don't get the second clue...

i have 49 to go, but lessons to teach in between, actually a welcome break, or my mind woud frazzle
then there is a kn 5/20 and 6/33 combo. kn + sounds like possessive form we

past tense it stid.
nope! I am just a big ole bear
whew feather - you're still painting.
i'd love to be done in all one or two days, but with a 2 year old, i have to do it in short spurts like this. did the primer last night.
<g> We like to watch the Indy Bears jump rope team. My girls would have flipped if I knew someone on the team
*facepalm* DUH! thanks musicmom! I am out to the garden! see you all later!
OH no! LOL I am way to out of shape to jump out of bed, let alone jump rope!
That is hard feather. I had trouble getting done with just the dining room and my girls are old enough to be mostly self-sufficient.

this grid is strange, i'm only seeing about half of all possible words for each letter, if that
Except, feather, I noticed that the cats have clawed the wall under the window in the dining room when they tried to jump into a window sill when the window was closed. I'm going to have to touch that up
It is a booger grid feather
my cats are loving the plastic dropcloths
can I have a un 7 clue please?
Okay - need to check out for a while. Walking the girls to the summer library program today. it's about birds of prey.
cool, sounds fun. bye!

Eton - is a proper noun so on this occasion enable decides it cant be used.
its no big deal
frank - Enter your words in the Add Word box under the grid, not in the chatlog box.
frank, we usually just give clues for the words in the chat, not the word itself.

newbie here - can someon explain the shorthand you are using?
sure if you open the link Lickety's Babble Clues
you can learn a LOT about today's grid
thanks indy
so for instance ra6/27 starts with "ra" has 6 letters and is worth 27 points
Hi Brumbjorn--an example: c4/5 is a word beginning with C, four letters long, worth 5 points.
sure ruthy
Can I have an sa5 clue please?
ok.. st 7/28 is a word similar to one who begins, except the first vowel needs to be changed
thanks got it!
thanks!
lara - I only have one sa5... it's similar to ***** claus
n e hints plz need help!
thanks could not find it for anything...
specificity - good word - i'll use it tonight when i tell my husband to stop snoring
hehe - I'm thankful that my husband is not afflicted with that particular problem. He's just a blanket hog
Mine is both, unfortunately! But a good guy otherwise, I might add. Oh my...you wouldn't believe the rain here.
I know the weather is a snore-inducing topic, but it's really bad!
It rained most of the morning here. mt garden looked like a bog... but it's dry now... the sun is the curse of the south
just try living without it!
LOL
Krista - you homeschool too!
true, indy... I just don't like it much
hey all...is the singing ch the first ch5/14?
yes
Hiya, everyone.......
Yep! I saw that in your profile, too. Good for you. I've been reading a lot about homeschooling in Germany. Those who do it are jailed!
jailed... wow
This grid is BAD. I can't believe some of the words, and I would't have got far without a2z. If anyone chooses to join babble today, they wont come back again.
WHAT!!!
any clues on sc 7/36?
past tense of sc4/5 just above
If you knew how easy it was you might be sc7/36 for life
sc 7/36 - past tense of sc 4/5
You should google it..it's really something. There is a German woman on one of my email lists who moved here to escape persecution.. That's how I heard about it.
past tense of sc4/5 above it
is there any other clue for the ra 6/27?
I love that clue CadFan
I will look that up, Krista... Makes me more thankful for my freedoms
think REALLY REALLY nasty
Hi MovieMan person,
I was a little worried some would find it not nice.. I Was just kidding though
lol, thats the one that went over my head
can I ask why you choose to homeschool your kids?
Uncagain - think nasty sex!
sorry ladies
indy, after 2 years in public school my eldest still couldn't read but knew plenty about drugs. so I pulled her out and began teaching
OK fair enough
good for you spec
good reason specificity
I think public education should be abolished anyway
long story short...severe food allergies, and then-undiagnosed developmental disabilities...my daughter was a square peg being pounded into a round hole, as it were.
now my middle child is scary smart. at 7 she reads at a 5th grade level
any sc 5 12 clues out there? please...
ah, krista... home much be so much better for her
the allergies alone would have me worried everyday she was out of my sight!
yep - mine are flourishing. we are lucky to have a great hs community here. Homeschoolers always laugh when "socialization" is brought up.
that's harsh indy
sc5/12 not much, inadequate
are you afraid that they won't learn social interaction skills?
you don't put a **** before a horse; add "s" in front...
see below :)
sorry man public fails FAR more often than it suceeds
socialization is a myth! only in public school do children ever associate with only peers their own age
true
sorry the other 5 12?
my children feel comfortable interactiong with EVERYONE
I mean we learn to talk from our parents anyway
impossible for everyone to homeschool their children
there are good private schools out there
Yep. Don't get us started, please. I have so many teachers in the family, and I respect them greatly. It's the system that is bad.
i must be the most blind person in the game, the ra thing is beyond me. I guess i will try something else for a bit
it should not be the responsibility of the government to school children
and bad teachers to - not yours of course krista
ra + short hand for "you" + the letter following m + the last two letters of inch
ra6 - rhymes with what a space shuttle does when it takes off
I can see the need for public education...some parents would not do their job...but i am happy to have the choice. True, hate my life (sorry you hate your life, btw)
great clue, stephie!
hmm, ok, thanx. I dont think I ever was going to see that
I am a Libertarian so I think communities should be responsible for schooling their own children, and parents should be able to send their kids to whatever school they want
but the Fed Gov't should GET out of the education business
yadayadayadayadayada
ty, Steph! Got it!
trunk
you're welcome!
*gets off soapbox*
oops -- sorry
we all do it, Erda :)
thanks erda, i didn't have that one yet!
well... my husband is going to be home from work soon, so I should go make him lunch. bye everyone!
my random 2 cents - I would have hated my mother deciding to homeschool me. thank goodness its not really allowed here (from my POV!)
lol Steph...
See ya!
bye! I'm going to!
I thought it was allowed there, Atalante.
not really I don't think
I think your schools are much better there. A home schooling mom friend of mine was schooled in England and speakes very highly of it.
i meant too!
My parents would not have been capable of homeschooling us. THey both graduated High School- but did not have the skills, especially at the higher levels. once I got into school.
speaks, even
its not an official alternative, and I think that parents can get fined / plonked in jail for not getting their kids into school
but the point is the governmaent can not be responsible for teaching our kid
PARENTS should make sure kids are educated
are you guys going to play the game or what?
and the kids also have some responsibility
No, the point is each society and parent is deffernt and each needs different alternatives to succeed. Like in Babble.
or different, perhaps. Alt spelling.
OK - I'll buy that
education of chilren is a really difficult subject
Maybe I should have been homeschooled!
I hate to take the side of a system I don't like, but you are talking about ideals, not harsh reality, indy. I mean no disrepsect.
I am playing the game LOL
I was a public school teacher throughout my kids' education. All graduated with honors, three got scholarships to college and graduated. I was qualified to home school, but my daughter especially would have HATED it. But now, our county schools have gotten so awful that I wouldn't allow my kids or grandkids to go to them.
Do you want any clues Erda?
can I ask for a clue to the 2nd sc5/12
true - but until wee realize how the gov't has FAILED and we need to do something else
Public School is certainly not the answer for every kid. At least not in the US system. It works for most kids, but certainly not for all.
Am I missing something? I have the first ho 4/5 and then the 5/12, but I can't figure out the 5/14, and I have tried everything.
I'll come back later -- this is boring
Erda- Sorry to be so boring.
which 4/5 leigh?
Yep, it's all about having the choice, methinks. I always wanted to be a teacher, but saw how the "politics" of the job got to everyone. Erda, you are rude.
nevermind no I see you said ho
I mean there are people who do not know the difference between their/there/they're
she must be a kid
Erda obviously doesn't have a vested interest in educating children. I hope I never lose that passion. But Amen to CadFan's comment. You have to be the chief advocate for your own children and do what's best for each one.
i'm new to babble and haven't chattered but have been reading. i'm a homeschool mom and a nurse. it is a choice i'm glad i have but know it is not for everyone. however, today we have so many opportunities. we are involved with a co-op so that as a group of mothers there are others that are qualified to teach higher subjects and take on that responsibility, giving mom a break and giving kids the chance to be with other kids and responsible to other adults.
There's a spray for that, you know.
the thing that bothers me the most about home schoolers is that they are usually religious separatist that want to make a point at the expense of their kids
The one that gets me is that people do not know when to use "I" versus "me"
Leigh ho5/14 pl of the root word
I am a grammar Nazi and proud of it!
grammar pet peeve of all time - the use of "myself" instead of "me"
We live in a wonderful country that allows us to worship as we choose and yes many of us do have our faith in Christ central to our home and classroom.
I understand that - but I also feel that forcing religion into public school is wrong
trad
I have the pl.
leighanne - what if the kids don't want to participate in the religious aspects? am just interested, not judging at all!
clue for 2nd sc5 12 please???
Krista, my husband does that "myself" thing and it grates on my nerves like screechy chalk on the board.
hi there all - just caught this last bit about grammar and want to share a link: http://www.onehorseshy.com/most_recent /bad_grammar_makes_me_sic/
don't put the sc*** be4 the horse
Clues for the 8 plz......
I do know of folk who don't believe that reading and writing are important especially. But , they have strong beliefs in other areas that they think should be taught to their children. It gets sticky when they decide to homeschool.
LOL Munner!! Tell him you are Grammar Police, there to make an arrest.
solar + strangle
I'
Speaking of educating.. I'm off to help Freshman get registered for Fall classes. Have a great day
thank you
yeah that is what bothers me - kids who learn about god before they learn anything else
just got back from this morning ...hello evryone...wonderful clue Indy...thank you....made me LOL !!!
Leigh - sorry - take the ho4/5 and add that 1st letter at the end.
Bye Cad.
YEAH!!!
I've often been accused of policing other folks' grammar. It especially bugs me when the offender is another teacher, principal, or politician.
I had a reading teacher in 6th grade who pronounced Penelope as Pen - a - lope
I do some work with a school that sent a newsletter home to all the parents - with its own name spelled wrong!
OMG
D'oh. Got my 5/14. Was not paying attention to where it was coming from.
Current most irritating one to me is people who talk about "conversating" with each other.
Funny - I had a 6th grade teacher that said ARCH-nid instead of arachnid. I hate that I still remember that. Cute shirt, TheFiz.
I do not have kids but if I did they would go to private academies
My peeve is "artic". and improper use of its/it's
my Dad was a sailor on HMS Anthony whose sister ship was HMS Penelope...we had some fun with that when I was a child
Oh yeah! I hate that toooooo
My pet peeve is good/well. I correct my boyfriend every day.
That's what's cool, indybehr, when YOU can be the decider.
that and the fact that our own presidunce can't pronounc nuclear
as parents i think that most of our children want to be a part of what we as parents hold important. Christ is central to our marriage and lives. Your relationship with Christ is a choice. God wouldn't have it anyother way. That is the way we have raised our children. We expect a respect for our belief in our home and they have followed into a belief. Sorry if spelling is bad. I worked last 2 nights, should be sleeping now. hope that answers your question atalante
(tee hee)
oh weird we both were typic Bushisms at the same time, indybehr
nuke- u - lar
LOL
Leighanne, very well-stated.
I don't like 'secyetary' and 'akse'
Okay. Time for me to go. I need to shower before I go up to campus.
I think it is hilarious how fundies claim being a homo is a choice when being a christian is TRULY a choice
.. and that scares the rest of us too indy!!!
Bye leigh!
it should FMitch!!!
but what would you do if one of your children decided to follow a different religious path? would that be accepted withing the basic framewrok of respecting your religion?
Karys wouldn't like living in Jersey, then. =) My friends go for cawfee and to the mawll and then they take the dawg for a wok.
He won't be around TOO much longer - it scares me all the damage he can do in two years tho.
It's nice to gripe about grammar issues with like-minded people. No one I know really cares. Guess we are all Word Nerds here.

oops
Bye bye ev'ryone.
aahh...but it's different there Leigh !!!
got to go to bed or i won't be able to see my patient's tonight. first time to chatter, kind of liked it!
True Krista and lets maybe get back to the grid? Anyone need any clues?
Ooh - religion AND politics in one conversation.
good to meet you Leigh :)
nite, Leighanne.
Word nerds unite! We can put aside our differences and focus on the proper use of the semicolon! Thanks for ringing in, Leighanne - pleasant dreams.
=)\
hi FMitch ...you ok ?
Yes, let's.
Yey Happy Cat - Krys, good thanks - you?

my mom, sister and I all work on the grid together too!

Babble no longer alows you to copy and paste a link that is longer than one line. For something that stretches over that you wil have to copy and paste or type the missing bits in.

that's how i know him debb! used to do the Sunday Times puzzle every week.
lol nut!
sorry matty, ghost!
nytimes puzzle is my other obsession
i'm kinda new at this. what's a phantom word?
hi ardilla - it's just a word that looks like it should be in the grid - but isn't
phantom word is one that is almost in the puzzle but not quite
I sometimes do the NY times puzzle - when I'm in the States, and sometimes when I buy a Herald Tribune. I miss that puzzle - much better (for me) than British puzzles.
thank you very much
none of the Hawaii papers have it, i may get it on line if i ever find the time to do it again.
You see what looks like a valid word, but there aren't quite enough letters to complete it! Try and spell chortle on the grid. Love your icon ardillo
You have to pay to do the crossword online
sorry ardilla!
I see...thanks
yes matty, i think it would be worth it, but don't have the time right now
yeah, don't take fran away from babble :-)

the one nice thing about having a job i hate is that i get to do puzzles all day long -- and then watch the mets (maybe i do like this job after all)
ra6/27 is like smut, usually has a Y at the end and used in it's adjective form

Where we are in the Midlands it wasn't to bad - but London had it WET lol
well, I wouldn't mind a bit of precip here, but we are just entering the dry season, so I don't expect much relief until late September at this point.
evening all, how is everyone
hello oggy! doing well today. You?
not too bad.
We don't seem to be able to hit a happy medium in the UK we have a drought in the south of England and the rest of us are buying boats...it wouldn't be so bad if our Country was as big as the States
We had the first rain in ages yesterday. It was dull today but no more rain
Where are you ExWren???
I am in Hampshire
its been a nice day here today, and i hope it is 2morrow. i have a 5k charity walk to do 2morrow night
na 6/30 has me stumped...
Are you getting hit by the drought warning by Thames Water ????????????
then I will keep my fingers crossed for you to have nice weather for your walk, oggy (are you mr or mrs?)
mrs
We don't have a hosepipe ban yet!

okay, thanks Norma! *thinking*
na6 is na+2nd vowel + the 2letter at the end of alphbet +s that the only way i can do it
Well, it really doesn't look like I'm going to finish tonight's puzzle. I have 74 left, and am now very tired (it's after 10 here) and I'm not thinking properly. I'm struggling with simple words!
i love the walk for life event, used to do it all the time in Guam

We have been hit by the big C several times in my family. In fact my hubby has had treatment for prostate cancer recently, thank goodness he is still healthy
Your Welcome
Is Uneaixoise still here? She will need her oars for her trip here Thursday.
oh matty, that's how I felt a couple days ago. this seems like a reasonable grid -- if I had all the time in the world...
I'd feel stupid having to ask for easy words. I'm working on the two es's at the moment, and I'm sure they're simple!
thanks, oggy. Your clue is the only one my addled brain could get.
I was thinking of calling Noah to reserve a spot on the ark Krista
you too Krista? I know the East Coast is really getting hammered with the rain this year.
i dont mind walking if the weather is ok. and im doing it with my daughter-inlaw
actually, matty, I found the es's after a LONG search. they aren't that easy
matty, the Es were not easy at all
es & the ch 4/6
Any clues? LOL (I feel such a wimp!)
the first is the beginning of the french snails people eat. The second es would sound the same...
OK, saph - that's one!
Bingo - thanks Stid - you're both stars.
As a current cancer patient, I'm sending my thanks and hugs to all of your walkers.
thanks munner
then take the h out
We've had several days of it now; I was out driving today and had to pull over - zero visibility. There is flooding in other parts of the state, but so far the Potomac hasn't flooded.
I'm in maryland too - it's been crazy
Onto evs. Krista, where are you?
*wearing bright star on forehead*
Munner, didn't know you were on! how are you feeling today?
forev* then add a t then ad small word for either
Are you tired from the chemo, Munner? That was the worst part for me. Maryland, Matty.
the news was just talking about flash flooding in D.C. with bad news in the form of a front that has stalled
My mum lives in PA, (Philly area) and my grandparents lived in PA near Hagerstown.
the lightning over the ches bay has been unbelievable
ok... I still don't get the clues for na 6/30...
No way - that's where I am - Hagerstown! Were they in Greencastle?
nm
I love Maryland crabs - I miss crab cakes and soft shell crabs. Driving in Maryland (towards Salisbury and Cambridge) is surreal - even MacDonalds has crab cakes!
na6/30 is na + adam and **e + you and me
Oh hey, saphyre...are you flooded there?
Had a treatment this morning, Krista, and feel good except for the 2 or 3 day pain from the Neulasta shot. No big complaints.
Waynesboro! Good lord, small world. I used to fly into Hagerstown
golly -- I am glad to be here -- I don't remember June being so awful when I was a kid in Virginia!
hello
thanks for the help on na 6/30. it took me a bit to decipher oggy's second part of the clue
Munner, keeping you in my thoughts. Wish I could do more than that!
the parking lot of the hotel looks like a marina down here Krista
And my husband is from London, to top it off.
hi harpjane
hi harp!
hi everyone !
hi helen :)
we had 41 straight days of rain here in March, was not fun at all!
hi helen!!
What part of London, Krista?
Just figured out my last stupid ro 5 and got fireworks. Be back tomorrow or at the flip if not sleeping.
Are you safe where you are. saphyre?..he lived in muswell hill right before he moved here

bye munner & congrats
i think i will go directly to the list - 57 left & don'
t see anything else
We eat at the Mountain Gate restaurant in Wboro all the time, Matty.
not really stid, it rains, but not many, many days in a row
I remember in Puerto Rico there were times when it rained part of every day for what seemed like forever (but I was only 5 and 6 at the time...)
i don't know why i keep hitting the return in the middle of sentences either
So, bad weather on the East Coast? Mum's still in Philly. Krista, I live in SW London, rather than north.
so far we're ok, my house is up on a hill right where the cliffs start so we're good
they were showing cars and trucks on the news with the water line up near the windows - poor east coast
stid, parts of the island rain a little every day, the 41 days was a lot of rain and all day everywhere!
Are you near Calvert's Cliffs? I havent' been fossil hunting for years. Sounds like you have a lovely view!
How's Philly faring?
yes in chesapeake beach right at the start of the cliffs
plenty of shark teeth all around
I don't know about Philly...probably getting hit, too. oooh, I'm jealous, saphyre. I love it there. My little girl hasn't been sharks teeth hunting yet.
should take a trip down here it's only 30 minutes from dc
sure. It's like here. We expect "rain" 9 months of the year, but it's not usually heavy and constant... though we had a few weeks this year when it was both!
I haven't been to Waynsboro since my grandparents died - they liked the kind of restaurants older people do (you know, shut at 7.00) = is Gus and Ted's still there?
I've been meaning to this year - it's on my list! She will LOVE fossil hunting. I'll have to pick your brain closer to the time for a good beach - the places we used to go are no longer publicly accessible.
we have a beach right here in my neighborhood - brownings beach
Mountain Gate is like that..old fogies, but good food. Never heard of Gus/Ted's, but I don't get up there much.
if can "construe" why can't one strue? *pout*
it's open to the public
"to strue with"
i tried it too stid!
Oh good! thanks, Saphyre. I'll look it up! That is very helpful. The state park is partially closed for improvements, I read.

psssssst - leslie...whatever you do don't ell her where you live...
lol TO!!
why? she might show up with presents??
I agree it's a good name, leslie, but it got me into an embarrasment when I was 13 and fresh over from England. My first name is Gillian, common among Brits at the time, but not in the USA so when I went to an NYC high school they didn't know what to make of a Gillian Leslie and I got assigned to the boys' gym class and locker room
we were married in october too - i say bah to the june brides thing - just me showing up is enough leslie
oops!
seeeeeeeeee........
I love the name Gillian, i would have named my son that if he was a girl
chicago eh, that's not far - will there be nuts at the reception?
i didn't name my daughter that because we found out one of my husband's friends named his daughter that already
jilli, i also wasn't a big fan of the name as a teen, couldn't imagine why my parents would name their child something that sounds so similar to an alternate sexual orientation. but in junior high kids will make fun of anything :)
tons of nuts!!
leslie: i tried to warn you...
I leik pwn en stuf so be nic two meh noobs!
ah! never thought of that, and here i was thinking of naming my daughter leslie - i'll have to picket the reception then. i'm a nuts rights activist

Last word, st 7/28, please

i'd never heard the name before x files
wow, your young jilli
jilli, i'm sure you developed character having to correct people...please say that because both of my kids names are hard to pronounce
Only Jill (and jillibus) with a j <g>
that's what I thought -- soft J...
Fran, what are your children's names?

this conversation reminds me of when travelling with students - we ended up in spain with 3 girls and a Michelle assigned to one room - turned up he was french chap from northern Ontario
annie, Giulian and Giada
very amusing - he took it very well, and, in fact, dated just about every gal on the ship
character? I suppose so, but whether it's good or bad I dunno! I have a horrible habit of correcting people's grammar and spelling *slapping wrist*

fran, is there a story behind their names?
Jill, first time I heard the name Gillian, she was one of hubby's students - prob. 35 years ago - she has visited us out here
feather, we just wanted G names since my husband's name is Gilbert
first or last fran?
first name leslie
he also wanted them to sound kind of Italian, he's hung up on the Godfather!
I'm not doing well today and will prob. have to give up - hubby brought home a new wine we just had to try !!! need I say more
aw, that's neat!
jheel-bare-- gilbert :-) nice name!
you're totally excused from babble to share wine with your hubby flosey!! lol
at least you can win at wine drinking, flosey. everybody wins!
I'm off for a mo to get my vodka-on-the-rox, then be back to beg for my last 7

flosey - you still there? Love your icon and profile
brb

ko + past tense of run is not accepted-- missing something here...

Gotta run, be back in awhile, bye all!

MMMMMM calamari --- i didn't miss anything obvious but can I have some to eat instead of beating myself with it.
then you will get tuna fran
bye cat9!
bye cat
i love tuna!
bye, cat
that "not-the-muslim-holy-book" with a vowel added is a czech word for currency! *eyes popping open*
3 more ---- all c words
not canned though, you can give me canned tuna
go musicmom!
good thing for you, that you like simple fishes, Fran!
hi all!

bye Cat.
hi stid, nrkii, and all
hi Jill -- did you have a nice day?
jillibus is a genious! ko6/33:-D
you know what I hate? when I look at lickety's list, and I think, "the list HAS to be wrong, because there is NO way to make that word" and then after about 50 tries, I find it, and realize that lickety is so rarely wrong that I am just foolish
Any help with the last ch6/27? The next to the last word in the list
right now jilli is BUI
lib, plural that
I do that too nrkii
Lovely - perfect balmy weather - like yours, I guess, and finished a few minutes ago with great help. Didn't get another bl**dy thing done though, and should have! I'll pay for my babbling sins eventually
babbling under the influence? Fun!
mm, it's a group of people singing
OH MY GOSH! Now I have to beat myself with calamari
sounds like a fine day to me, Jill!
mm, I missed it too ... never thought to wrap all the way back around...
not if you're going to like it musicmom!!
Very clever, Fran -- *giggling* -- just going to get vodka # 2 and light the bbq
hey stid
fine fran <pout> guess I have to have beef liver --- I love all seafood
ohhhh, I just realized why I was having trouble with the blasted ro 4/4... feeling much better now
jilli, i think nrk used it for the first time the other day, fun, huh?
and you can plural that ro 4/4 word too???? will wonders never cease?
lol music! doesn't sound as good as getting a fish though!
I'd feel better if I were BUI right now
biking under the influence?
I don't know Fran --- you ever picked up a piece of slimy raw liver --- worse than fish I think
ty, nrki! for the very fishy ko7/48 :)
great tp hear you giggling Jilly
Jilli
i like liver though
na6,30 anybody?
This grid is quite awful.... Any help on the un6/21 and tr6/21? Please?
un6/21--not ripped?
erda, un6/21 is not ripped
tr6-21 is somebody who skips school
un 6/21 is not ripped
I've given up after second glass of wine
tr 6 21 is someone who doesn't go to school
FIREWORKS!!!
yay musicmom!!!
nrk, now we're both in lib's head!!!
YAY musicmom!

On the grid or on the wine flosey?

Long story but I have 5 bottles Fran. It isn't cold though
hi again
lib - as in tr officer when you don't go to school
my head feels like a fishtank (?!)
all our married life we lived within a block of markets, now we're way out, so have to be well stocked!!
i guess it's white wine then musicmom
you okay lib?
hi saph!
always white here!
hey Fran :)
Yep it is a very yummy Riesling from the Biltmore Estate vineyard --- but I like it cold.

i'm on the 9th
nite & ty, sheryl!
re5/16 and re6/27, please? my last 2 words . . .
i know fran but enable tends to be dumb sometimes
both scorpions.
yes, fran-- plural!
christopher re - superman
une, last names of two supermen through the years
Superman actor Chris RE***
whew, thanks! Fireworks!
yes annie, i thought it was unusual it was just us, about 80% of my close friends are Scorpions
yay une!!!!!!!
congrats uneaixoise
yay une!!!!!!
the OTHER de5/12 please?
yay, une!!!
erda, another plural
I think it's eerie that 2 actors had almost the same surname & both met w/ ill fate (superman)
think of the stuff in bug spray - plural
both de5/12's are plurals
erda, it's also a plural of the insecticide
ok, can't focus...ra 6/21?
it is lib! *cue Twilight Zone music*
true lib - very eerie
Thank you, Fran!! Watching fireworks...
ra & positive or certain
feather, ra + certain
ra + certain
yay erda!!!!!!
This grid was cruel and unusual punishment!!!
Michael Owen, English soccer star, rang home to tell them he'd hurt his knee and was out of the World Cup... he was trying to explain this to his daughter, and she said "can I call you back, I'm watching Postman Pat".... thought you ladies might enjoy that one
congrats erda
yay erda!!!
hi bambam! great story!
wtg, erda!
thank you saph, nrkii
i cannot do this listless and (sob) my printer is broken so i am calling it a night with 94 left. see you tomorrow. hope to get the darn thing fixed or get a new one from dell.
for those of you unfamiliar with postman pat, subsititue Barnie or the Wiggles etc... for that
evening, everybody!
night annie
yuck - barnie
night annie!
hi ping
bam, figured as much
sorry annie
thats a great story, bam
nrkii - great icon - makes me feel so plain and literal!
hi ping
hi ping!
annie, could you have the list open in browser on the side?
hi saphyre, fran, nrkii!
nrkii, i dont know how to do that. i am not electronically inclined.
just right click on licketys clues and open in a new window annie
yes Barnie makes me gag.... the Wiggles pretty good -- I heard they were pretty big in the States now. But personally don't think you can beat Sesame Street (we always prefer what we remember!) and Playschool too.
also, annie, you can cut & paste list to notepad (pc) or w/ mac simpletext...
Hi bambam
Annie, I am sorry you are leaving early -- but will see you tomorrow!
i heard wiggles were taken off the air
annie, if you right click on the lickety link at bottom, it will give you the option of opening it in a new browser window... choose that option... then just resize by pulling the right side over till the lickety list is a thin column, and move it to the left side of screen
thankyou, stid
scroll back chris, you'd like that story about michael owen too
ooh, too wiggly?
Yeah, good one!!
my kiddo likes the wiggles
something about suggestive things not said
why were the wiggles taken off the air (in that States?)
kids liked the teletubbies...
talk about suggestive...
Hello Ping! How are you? Welcome to the grid tonight!
my kids were sesame st kids
the Teletubbies grew on me... at first i was like, what is this rubbish, but after a while i liked it... it's designed for 1-2 yr olds -- perfect for me!
lol bambam!
Congratulations erda on your fireworks!Good for you
one last word to get...
Thanks, Min - happy to see you
hi min!
go nrk!!!
hi Ping, Bambam, all who came in while I was drifting...
go nrkii go!
the purple one was deemed gay? tinkie-winkie , I think-- I think homophobia, tho I didn't lke tinkie-winkie..
hey stid... what do you need nrkii?
hi stid, happy to see you drift back
done!
nrkii, i copied the instructions you gave me and will try to do it tomorrow. thank you!!!!
congrats nrkii
yay nrk!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY nrkii! *dances around, dispensing celebratory MJCLs*
(last word was c + visit with ghosts)
Hi stidmama! How are you doing! Welcome to the grid
he carries a purse and has a triangle on his head
yay, nrkii!!!
yeah Lib not only purple but had the triangle on his head which is the gay symbol..... as if some 1-2 year old would care about any of that
hurrah for nrkii!!!!
I'm also drifting back.I was on earlier this afternoon.
thanks -- goodluck annie, feel free to ask again if you have any trouble
that was my last word too nrkii.... great minds....
i think it was one of the tv ministers who created the hooplah over tinkie winkie
right, bam-- that triangle was used in nazi camps to define gays... :(
Congratulation nrkii on you fireworks! Good for you!
when i was young they banned Enid Blyton's Noddy and Big Ears for similar gay-rumour reasons.... how ridiculous... and we also used to play with Gollywogs, which were black dolls... they got banned too on racism grounds, altho i never cared or noticed it was black
but lots of men carry purses... and I don't see what the problem would be even if tinky-winky (which as far as I could tell was sexless, not "male") were gay? Yes, the TV evangelists really got their shorts in a knot over symbolism only they saw!
and has been reclaimed as a symbol of pride, that triangle is
kids really don't hate unless they're taught...
as seinfeld says... not that there is anything wrong with that!!
Does anyone have a clue for the an 5/10 word please
very true lib!
ty, fran :)
yes hatred, bias, bigotry, all learned.... no one is born racist... i asked my daughter why she happened to have so many indian friends... she hadn't even noticed
min, like the money you put in a poker pot, but add a consonante just before last vowel
my boys were too old for teletubbies by the time they came along anyway, but I was impressed with it the few times I saw it, because it really approached things that little kids are interested in... in a way they seem to understand.
Hi folks. I'm so tired. I've been sewing for hours, altering clothes ready for my holiday. (I'm only 5' 2" on a good day and clothes are made for much taller/longer people!) Can anyone give me a clue for my last word? It's the last 'ra' - ra6/27.
Hello FranMag!Were you also on earlier today as well?
my father would say, never underestimate the stupidity of the human race...
my SO is not the same color as !-- vive la difference! :D
hi Jacula!
ra + not breakfast or dinner but l****
ra 6/27 usually has a Y at the and.
jacula, ra5/14 + a U in the middle
Hi Jacula! How are you? Welcome to the grid tonight!
smart dad, nrkii!
ra6-27 is another word for smut
hi jac
Thank you all! Got my fireworks now. Bet Paul would have seen that word, had he looked, he always sees the 'rudies' first. LOL.
congrats jac
YAY Jacula!
hahahah i got that before the flip
yay jacula!!!!
YAY JACULA!
i could see it coming
yay jac!
and as for Barnie... nothing annoys me more than going out of your way to be politically correct (which i find terribly condescending to minorities)... one black kid, one white kid, one latino kid, and one deaf kid....
anur
min, didn't mean to ignore your question, i've been on and off of here all day
sorry!
evening all!
brb, baby wants bottle
Stidmama - My case is just under 20kg and I haven't even put my undies in yet, nor all my shoes, nor the coffee, teabags, marmalade etc. Nor my lotions and potions.
Hello firefly779!How are you? Welcome to the puzzle!
hi firefly
hi firefly
hi firefly
anyone else need clues before I get ready for work?
Jacula, how long are you traveling for?
hi Minveryork, i'm fine thank you :)
nrkii - 2 weeks.
hmmm, tough not to pack a LOT for a 2 week trip...
jac, you won't need your undies will you??
they won't have coffee and tea in Crete?
You wouldn't believe how much bikinis, swimsuits, skirts, shorts etc., can weigh.
Fran! I was going to say that, but good taste got the better of me!
nrkii, was the clue you gave me for the an 5/10 word telling me I should put a consonant before last vowel in the an 4/4 word? I am a little confused about that.
FranMag! Are you suggesting I go knickerless??
fran not held back by good taste... lol
bikini bottoms in the day.... no bottoms in the night... good girl!
hi everyone!
why not Jacula? you're on vacation... ;-)
HI everyone! er6/18?
min, yes...
er 618: a knight on a rampage
also, think of Princess Bride actor AN*** the Giant, but change 3rd letter
lol jac!!!
mistake & picnic pest for the er
Hello helenkeller! How are you?Welcome to the puzzle!
Bambam - That's exactly what Paul said! He also has issues with the number of sandals I've packed.
hi peri, hi helen!
hi helen
hi helen! isn't today helen keller's b-day? and I like your icon too ;)
thanks stidmama and saphyre,
i am so bad at packing light
hi helen!
Me, too, Fran.
yw
The only consonant that I can use is another t. That didn't work. The word was not found in the dictionary
Hi Helen.
i bought my wife some flowers the other day.... she said "oh good grief, now i have to spend all weekend with my legs in the air"... i said "why, don't you have a vase?"
me three fran.
lol bambam
okay min, an 5 is picnic pest plus the do-again prefix
hi there, helen

min, look towards the other E
bambam, you are horrible!! (lol)
oh Bambam! good thing my boys are not playing right now!
peri, you'll hate yourself
volcanos
mount et* & plural
Thank you nrkii. The Princess Bride giant clue worked
mountains...
bambam - you need to try out for last comic standing :)
bambam, perhaps just a teeny bit over the edge there
Bambam - glad you mentioned flowers. That reminds me I need to pack hair flowers. (I wouldn't wear fake flowers in my hair at home but on the lovers' island of Crete... well...)
*hands small fish to perwinkle*
hk i missed your answer is it your bday?
helen, speaking of trying out, have you submitted an app for Treasure Hunters? on NBC.com
nrkii and saphyre, found the stupid et words, of course I know them, just couldn't see them tonight
they don't have flowers in Crete either? oh dear... maybe it's just as well I am not going!
my theory on that joke is... if you got it, you're old enough to hear it
Jacula, how many pairs of sandals/shoes are you bringing?
good theory
30 left - who wants to race?
Bambam - I agree, so long as kids aren't around. I knew that joke anyway.
73 left - not i!
finished this morning helen, sorry
helen - did you see my question/compliment??
go helen go! ( I finished earlier, but will be happy to race if you insist...)
skankI still have 81 lefty, so you are too far aheade of me else, I would race.
ev7/40 anyone
leslie - hi ! are you talking to me? no, it's not my birthday, my bday is in sept, why would you think it's my birthday today?
Bette Midler does that joke very well too.
2 weeks in crete... sounds perfect.. and think 1 pair of thongs/sandals is plenty.... you're not going to be doing anything formal are you?
ev 7/40 is the ev 5 just before + either/**
Where on earth did the skankl come from? I never typed that!
add small word for either to the ev 5/16
peri = ev 4/7 + ***nado (big storm, cyclone)
28 left helen!!!
no firefly - i missed it - but that explains the birthday thing! lol
nrkii - 3 prs. fancy flipflops, 3 prs. toepost sandals, swim shoes, a pr. pumps for walking, and whatever shoes I wear to travel in (prob. white sandals).
someone just asked. maybe they meant the real helen keller.
you're on!
yes i did LA
go feather go!
Does anyone have a clue for the an 6/24 word please
nrkii, thanks
Minver - an6/24 is what ships drop in harbour.
peri, add first three letters of ripped to ev4/7
Hello featherbee! How are you? Welcome to the grid!

*facepalm*

Stid - Yes, 2 bottles Piz Buin and same of after-sun. Got 2 floppy sunhats, too.
I didn't know you were here!So many people just like to sneak on here! I guess it helps to stay anonymous.
:-) just checking... my mom is a long-term survivor of melanoma.
I'm not one for lying there and sizzling like a chicken.
I think I said something to you at one point...don't remember when...finished the grid and then left
jacula, I'd bring 1 pair sandals, 1 pair walking shoes, and maybe 1 pair dressier -- you'll be cursing yourself for all those shoes -- LOL
lucky stid, my father died from melanoma
plus, if you bring all those shoes, you will have no excues to buy the perfect shoes you find while in Crete!
ok, boy, the chat is going by fast - i don't know when hk's bday is, is it today firefly? and ok feather, you're on, ready, set GO! what's that, you started before the gun? ok, you're on a ten minute timeout then (while hk catches up)
well, I think I am available if you want to talk.
lol, helen, tell me when you get to 27.
oh {{{{Fran}}}} I am sorry
Sorry Jacula I did not get the ship clue. I am clueless!
ok:)
helen, september? virgo or libra?
Minvery, when a ship comes into harbor, it drops it's an6, when it leaves, it weighs an****
er 6/18
?
drop the an* into the water to keep ship from moving
when you stop the boat, and want to stay in the water where you are, you drop an****
I must go. It's 3am here and I have to be up to go shopping with my Mum in 7 hours.. See you all later for the next grid and thanks for helping me with that last word.
it's okay stid, it was before people talked about warning signs and treatments weren't as good, it's been 31 years now

okay, now that the tension has eased, I give you this new offering from the Babble Store, the Babble Helmet, which is the brain child of LeighPerfect...
The Babble Helmet ------------------------------- -------------------------------------- ----------- For all those babblers who wish they could be babbbling 24/7 but can't because of work and kids and school and everything else that comes along, I present the Babble Helmet (**patent pending**)! Don't worry girls (and even some boys) about helmet hair! This cute helmet won't damage your 'do, but what it will do is dig down deep into the recesses of your mind to draw out those pesky words that seem to be evading your fingers! Let your 16 month-old wear it and see what he can come up with (because sometimes those words seem like gibberish, don't they?)! Wear it while you are out walking the dog, bathing those adorable little walking dirt mounds better known when clean as your oh-my-god-can-i-pinch-their-cheeks-the y-are-sooooooooooo-cute children, playing golf, or doing the spouse's stinky laundry! The Babble Helmet is directly connected to playbabble.com and will gladly input your words for you, giving your fingers a rest from your monkeytyping, and letting you get back to the real world, because after all, your kids miss you, and the sauce on the stove is burning, and your wife forgot your name a few months ago when you went pro and stopped coming out of the computer room........
Congratulations featherbee on fireworks!Good for U!

Layne, na + first two letters of adam's mate + "we" in an alternate form
LeslieAnn! you're doing it again!

Too much steroid. I did eventually fall asleep about 7:00 and Lily woke me up about 9:15 and i can't get back to sleep. Took another dose of cough medicine though, so it shouldn't be long!
