Hi Nan :)
chic- no, i haven't learned the magic of putting your own pictures into the computer yet - this is the icon i used for the high school yearbook theme day - everyone used to call me "posieden" cause they all thought we looked exactly alike - (they tried carol, but i would never answer to that - you know how you get trained to only respond to your name?
Hi nan - I expect it won't take YOU long!
well - at the beginning of the year he was great - was hurt most of hte season - but he's going to be a hall of famer - one of the best pitchers of al time - so - he might have risen to the occasion - but he's really been hurt ....

Oh dear, how terrible!

Sorry, Sprite, glad you could be there, for her and for you.

im very sorry sprite, and what a gift that you were with her
vade
veat
It was a gift, really. There were 12 friends around her bed when she died and in a way we carried her as far as we could. Her biggest fear was being alone - at least we have been able to make sure she wasn't alone at all.
Whoops, artdr, wrong box.
only half way and I'm starting to repeat myself -- maybe I'll be able think better in the morning! Good night:)
that you did dear
A great comfort, Sprite.

re8/40 and re9/54, start with re6/18 (fork prongs again) add first two letters of bird home and then plural for the 9
Change the last letter of an re 6-letter part of the eye and add the first 3 letters of a bird's home.

Whaaat? Penguin throwing?
i wonder if she studied in Guam, there's a world famous research facility in Guam for marine biologists.
i guess world famous among marine biologists though.

Cat, probably from the expression "Hoisted on your own petard." It sounds like a sword or something, but only means to be hurt by the plan you had for someone else.
Thank you Queen LOL Thats what made me think it was a sword :)
OH, I'm soo sorry. I wasn't thinking.

It's a great word, even if it doesn't mean sword LOL
Yup , was pleased when I found that one. There are some great words in there today - just so many of them to find :)
Lot's to find FM, got spoiled by the shirt one's we had for a few days :)
cat, you have to read the second entry for it at dictionary.com
apparently it's derived from old french word for fart!!
oh ok, I'll go do that
The short ones fitted in with the working day - this one I won't have time to finish but have 127 so far.
LOL, to break wind!
too funny!

Sure is, now wait till I use that word when someone breaks wind LOL

That's one reason why I'm not in bed. My husband was too busy pe****ing!!
LOL!!!
queen, all men are alike i think, my husband can clear a room!!
BRB
Yup, goes together like Mom and apple pie! LOL
We claim mine cleared a whole trailer park & surrounding community. Although it might have been the train derailment!
Queen did you give him curry - thats why I was up early!!
LOL
Nope, gave him burritos for his lunch yesterday & Chili the night before. Dumb, dumb, dumb!
obviously a coverup for what really happened, now we know!
Oh dear - recipe for disaster
LOL, NEVER give them chili!
Can anyone clue me on any of the nine letter words?
After 25 years, I should have learned.
le5/10, odd word, think male sex organ, only with an L
thanks cat, missed that one
Thanks Cat, I hadn't seen the sex organ. Duh!
well we were talking about the opposite end!
pi9/60 think bowling pi* + se6/18, a type of canine
Does anyone have any of the nine letter words?
Have you looked at the definition for le5.10 - its incredibly complicated!
mkl, an9/66 is an5/14 + si4/4
canine+ Irish Se****
No I haven't yet JFB, will look
Thanks Fran. Either of the other 2?
yikes, thats a mouthful isn't it JFB
pi9/60, thing at the end of a bowling lane that "racks up" the pi*s
Not one to drop into the conversation
re9/54, plural of re8/40, re + fork prong + first 2 letters of bird home

Good morning all. Limited time to babble this morning as I have to take 4 boxes of pig blood samples to the lab in Belfast. Could my life BE any more glamorous?
NEVER should have started this one. We are leaving for Hawaii in the morning. I'll never finish this tonight. Still have 73 to go
hi haz!
i don't see how haz! ;-)
Hi Haz!
wow haz are they your pigs?
might as well stay up and then sleep on the plane mkl!
i'm from NZ and have no idea what a Hawaian bird is
Used to be able. to do that. Can't sleep on planes since I got older
No, thank goodness! They belong to a local farmer - blood samples had to be taken to prove they don't have Aujesky's disease.
haz, your profile says cl5/16, but there is no C in the grid
I'll change it - should be gl.
o got it \haz
I have 5 more 8 letter words to go. ga it ne ni pe. Anyone want to clue me on these?
smudge, see my clue at 3 am
haz, we picked the same word to clue!
fran is there a clue in your icon?
yes taz
never mind ansered lol
smudge, a hawaiian bird is ... birds **st, then same letters again
Different word FranMag - I've corrected the point count as well, it's gl5/14
thanks, got it
ooh, thanks haz, missed those!
Gosh I've entered a Hawaiiin bird without knowing what it was!
they use it often in these grids smudge, cute word, once you know it, you will be ablew to spot it
LOL JFB
of course i thought i had them already!
the ne4/4 is a kind of goose and it is hawaiian.
That's what happens when there's a big word count grid. You see the words and think you have entered them.
Oh my Fran, I called it a bird, should have said goose, no wonder people couldn't get it, I'm tired LOL
lol cat, a goose is a bird! :-)
That makes 3 birds that I've found so far - could be more as I've only got 134
I know, but it's always clued as a goose! LOL
Does anyone have any of these 8 letter words? ga, it, ne, ni, pr?
exactly haz
i have three so far also.
ga8, a girls name + opp of daytime, variant spelling
sorry mkl, those are the ones i'm missing also!
4 if you count the baby ea5.14
Back again, 9.30 and I must be out of here.
I have 2 8 letter words
there is no pr8 mkl
Good morning FMItch - nice grid compared to yesterday's!
Wow. Odd word. Thanks Cat
later fmitch!
Hi all - big one today.
hi angb!
you're welcome
thanks jfb, missed the baby!
Just noticed your icon FMitch - theres another one!
Morning Haz, nice yes but rather large.
don't forget ag5/14 (drop the e from baby bird)
oh yeah, i have that one too!
pe8/55 pe + sometimes vowel + choo choo ***in + tall consonant, plural.
Remove the plural for pe7/40
and the sn5 is another one
wow, thanks kat, i wonder if that's a bird too
An ornithologists grid today!
Not sure, it has no meaning if I use the ? by it
Thanks again Cat
Now I just need the 8 letter it, ne and ni
you're welcome, what were the others you needed mkl?
You would think a word like that would mean somethin impressive -
the ni8 is Fertilizer consisting of sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate.
ni8/40 - minerals?
thanks fmitch, i had the extension of the sn5 (sn6-sharp shooter), but not the 5
And if he can't get it from Cat's clue.....
It's late. Minds foggy. A little more clue Haz?
Look at Cat's clue. The last word.
Oh my, I'm sorry!
mkl, it's in cat's clue! lol
I copied the meaning LOL
thanks cat! and haz!
:-) Even I could follow that Cat
sorry everyone!
Hey Cat, you pulled a Queen! :)
Never worry about it Cat!
Time to go - bbl

later jfb!
Presume everyoen hs the the ea5 large bird
i do fmitch

taz, take ea6 (baby ea5) and drop the first e
ty somuch will try it
thanks cat! needed that ne8 too!
ty
you're welcome Fran
I have the it 8 - wow.
Hot dog. Now just the it,8 left.
it8/40, you reit***** something when you say it again, add an S for the 8
MKL, the it8, think of a word for when you re say something, then drop the re. Like, you reit***** your point of view. Then pluralize it.
It means to repeat.
Fran, great minds!
i stole gail's clue from earlier
Back for the last few.

Hello again -- I've returned from early morning chores.
hi arb
hi again arb!
Hi ARB
Whoops. I messed up I still have two 8 letter words left. The first pe and the ra. Any help?
pe = choo choo ***in + tall consonant + 2nd vowel, plural
mkl: ra8 is past tense of rodent + numeral
oops, mean pe+
That's the second pe8. I need the first
thanks cat, mkl, that is the first one, it's similar
that is the first pe8
cat gget it right lol
thanks sprite that gave me 3 words
wtg FMitch :)
Wow. They are similar. Thatnks Fran
thanks sprite!
there are 2 pe 8??
yup taz!
Sprite, what's the past tense of rodent?
past tense of (rodent + numeral)
and they are the same except for what lol
mkl, the addition of the numeral is not at the end, it's in the middle
Never mind. Figured it out. Gave me three words. Thanks again
taz, do you have the pe8/45 or the 8/55?
i have 8,55
the clue i just gave taz is for the pe8/45
I need pe 8/55 -- any hints?
taz, take out the Y and add an e on the end (of the 7) then plural.
ty
pe is seabirds alt spelling
how does one learn all the codes you people give out??
arb, add a Y after pe and take the e off the end (of the 7) then plural
well we go to a secret school in secret spot
colhad, go to angelsong's resource page in friends of babble links.
joking
TY Fran -- figured it out from the clue you gave to Taz on going the other way!
i thought you might arb!!
like 5.14 means five letters in the word and 14 points
Colhad, it's just a matter of time and reading the clues.
Col- pe8/55 = 1st 2 letters of the word, 8 letterin the word and total tile value 55.
this is only colhad's second grid everybody! you're doing great colhad!
colhad is doing great
col i still dopnt know what i am doing most of the time
thankyou folks
good evening everyone
Your doing great colhad, if you mean the way we write clues, we just make them up, using **** for letters that will be in the word you need. We just clue it for you, so you can get the word on your own. Like if it was carbon, we would clue it as ca**** copy. We give the first 2 letters only, then clue the rest.
hi lynxxx!
hiya lynxx
Good evening lynxxx!
Hi lynxxx
Hi everyone, I guess we have to pay for the two small grids this week with today's
hi penny
hi papp
Hi Pappou
hello penny
it has great words though penny, there is a pe6/24 that we're quite fond of.
since I've just started, I'm on the top D. I found 2 4/5s and 2 5/12. What would the other one be?
yes, we love that word :)
LOL, I just saw that
pe6/24 means that the word is 6 letters and worth 24 points??
penny, de7/40, use de5/12 as the base of it
hi colhad, yes
there is a de7/40 too
second de5/12 (thick)
I'm going to have to play with it, it's not registering
I have 2 de5/12s
4 actually
is the last vowel of the de5 part of the de7?
mmmm - i'm obviously a little bit de5.12 too
no penny
no it isnt Papp
it ends with what sounds like another word for town
de7/40 is a property of matter that is measured by taking it's weight and volume
now that I found, LOL, I knew it had to be something like that. Thanks fran and cat
ty Fran
yw penny and arb!
I'm teaching sink and float to my kinders sometime next month, LOL
my two 8 letter words are ne8/45 and in8/40
you can introduce them to that word then! :-)
oh, it's part of one lesson
I love the dr7/40, an old TV cop show with Sgt Joe Friday, can't remember the other guy.

great colhad! It's addicting isn't it :)
just practicing the word codes, I think I'm getting the hang of em
cat nice profile i am a spay and neuter advocate too
or when you didn't have color you bought one of those celophanes with blue, green and yellow to place over the screen, LOL
see col you graduated from the secret school too yea
Thank you taz! It's so important isn't it! I wish more would do it.

Oh please no, we would never have small grids anymore, Col :)

I don't know if anyone else here likes vintage or antique items, but I have to share my newest find. I found an old wooden highchair probably from the 50's and in great shape, just needs refinsihing, and I am going to do it for my Grandson. I adore antiques and vintage items and fixing them up. I am so jazzed about this highchair!
Wow Cat, sounds great! Congrats :)

It is wonderful! Good thing my daughterinlaw loves things like this too. My Son hates them, says why do you want old things LOL
No I haven't Colhad, but I will :)
Fireworks for me. Can I clue anything before I am off?
That sounds terrific, cat9 -- post a photo once you get it done! We just found a beautiful mahagony antique bureau with mirror and got it for a song. It's our first 'antique' and I'm beginning to understand why people collect :)

Good morning hodag :)
Hi Hodag
I love to chat with animal lovers,Hi cat9x and ARB
Hi hodag! Fellow animal lover? :)
Cat9x may be an animal lover, judging by the icon, but I prefer my animals chocolate.
LOL ARB, chcolate bunnies?
or bears or whatever they make out of chocolate!
You'd love my chocolate mousse cake! Best ever! See what you've done, now I want chocolate! :)
In my house it's called mouse cake or moose cake!
what goes good with chocolate.....potato chips!!Sounds like a woman thing dose'nt it?
My Dad raves about chocolate cake ans sweet pickles. I'm like ack! He grew up with eating it that way, swears it's great, I don't want to try it LOL
I like a good bittersweet chocolate, a crisp apple and a well chilled white wine -- THE best.
I think it's the salty sweet thing Hodag, I love salty and sweet together.
Yum, that sounds wonderful ARB.
I love apples and cheese, never tried it with chocolate.
Its soooo good!!!!!
Ok, now I'm hungry! :) I have the apples, the white wine, no chocolate!
I have the chips, wine but no chocolate.
Cat9 when I was pregnant the strangest craving I had was for tart, dill pickles dipped in fudge frosting. !!!
Guess we need to go chocolate shopping hodag!
For sure Cat9x.
I love tart dill pickles!! Dipped in frosting, might be good, do you ever eat it now ch1212? I never had strange cravings when I was pregnant.
Oh no, in fact the thought of it makes me kind of nausous :D
Reminds me of the I Love Lucy episode when she was pregnant, and ate a milkshake with sardines in it:::shivers:::: LOL
Isn't that funny what our bodies can do when we are pregnant :)
Oh GROSS!
I know LOL
yes, it is funny.
brb

TY Kateq
TY Kateq. How is everyone going? I've been doing this off and on for a few hours and not even half way yet.
de7 - the thickness or volume of something.
My last word si 6/18 -- not the baby si*
si6 - change the last letter of the one you have.
Its like that romantic city Vi****
TY diane. Fireworks
YW - glad you got the bright lights.
Congrats ARB
good morning all - how is this grid?
congrats, ARB!
Long, Wolvie. Just finished after more than 3 hours.
Hi Wolvie - slowing right down near halfway for me - but not using list yet.
whoa. well, after a few short days, I guess we were due. :-) Must update my icon...
here we go...
Bye Wolvie - think I'll save the rest of this til the morning (and with Lickeys help!) - good luck
bye lynx
mornin/afternoon folks..
morning philod
I have 2 abominable y words...any help on the 3rd one?
sorry chiley - haven't got the other one yet
probably some weird yp or yt word
Afternoon all. 3rd ye word is la5/10, not ye**.
hi jac - la as in not on time?
Wolvie. Yes.
ok - thanks!
y/w.
is it a 5?
that is one odd ball - at least to me
no chiley - a 4
double consonant
chiley - no. It's ye4/6.
ahh..thanks
It's a Scottish word for ga4/6 (entrance).
ahh - thanks, jac
ooh - my middle name is in the grid - going to change my icon...
I remember that now from a previous grid
there!
I hadn't looked at the g's yet jac - so thanks again!
hey - galette is so a word - hmmph.
oops
should have used some stars in the middle there - sorry
Never mind, Wolvie. I'm cluing a ga6/24.
*clueing
saw that, jac - good clue
still, if that word I typed is in Webster, which it is, it should be good for this grid - bummer
Wolvie - it won't accept 'pitter' or 'pitta' either.
Hello all - I was surprised at non-acceptance of pitter as well.
Hi Haz.
Lovely icon, Haz.
Hello Jacula - that's a greedy bird you've got there!
hi haz
Indeed it is, Haz! Did you finish yesterday in the end?
yeah - I know on the pi's - odd
Thanks Jacula - just up the road from me, well a few miles anyway.
I did indeed, Jacula. It was much easier once I succumbed to the list!
funny thing, it takes the coffee stuff, but not the ta**. LOL
Haz - When I was researching my family tree (not finished yet!) and was following up my maiden name (which is unusual), I discovered that a whole lot of relatives live in Douglas Bridge, which apparently is a small town in Strabane, Co. Tyrone. Do you know that place?
No, I don't - I would know County Antrim and Down best of all the counties. I'll have a little nose round and see what I can find out about it.
good morning, all
Thanks Haz. Any personal stuff you find, can you message me through BabAnon please?
hi pida
Morning pida.
Wolvie - coffee stuff?
you know - la*** and plural -
Thanks, Wolvie. I hadn't spotted those.:)
oh good - I owe you a few clues!
Jacula - it's not a big place (81 people in 2001) but it is featured in Wilkapaedia!
It won't take pitter - never heard of the pitter patter of little feet?
hi catsmm
I've just got 2 more words following that trail, Wolvie. An archaic language (+ plural) with a double consonant in the middle.
Hi Wolvie
Jacula - do you have an idea when your relatives would have been living there?
Haz - I know. That's why I was so surprised to find such a large concentration of family there. I knew about the ones in Douglas Isle of Man but the Irish contingent were a surprise. I was researching up to date infodisk stuff about 3 years ago, Haz.
Sorry, that should have been up to da4/5 infodisk stuff. LOL.
(Just checked to see that I had the da4/5!)
catsmm - Yes, we were just discussing the absence of pitter.
LOL, Haz. Had you?
I did - and the added on bits!
*Jacq scuttles off to look for more than one added on bit.*
Just got here...
Love your icon, Haz. Visited Ireland several years ago and loved it there.
catsmm - Yes. I was just agreeing with you.
Thank you! We probably don't appreciate just how pretty it is.
My phantom today is 'yesterday'.
Now there's a cue for a song....
You sing this time, Haz.:D
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away... and you all know the rest.
LOL. 'Yesterday, all the grid words were well hid away....'
'Why she had to go, I don't know, she wouldn't say. I said something wrong, now I long for yesterda a a a y.'
Beautiful, Haz! What a songbird you are.:)
My phantom is "dagger"
No training, just raw talent.
catsmm - there is a pointy da4. (Pub game 'weapon'.)
So, Haz... will we be watching the next X Factor to see you?
Aha! Thanks.
I'd sooner cut my own throat!
Catsmm - also, you can add a French masculine 'the' to the end and plural it, too. It means 'to scuttle about'.
Haz - know what you mean!
That must be a British word - it sounds British, somehow. :)
thanks for those clues, jac!
y/w.
on the ag's - i have the micro base, the rock & plural, the cactus, the oil and it's plural - what am I missing?
got one more - means metal or tag sheath..
brb - 'phone.
finished my re's, time to take a coffee break and read the chat log for odd clues
Time for the daily exercise - be back later.
bye cat
Going to have to go for now. 113 to go. BBL. Happy Babbling.
bye cat, Jac
bye jac
good morning/ day to all.
hi abe!

Hi all -reporting from the plague pit that is my home. Had littlies overnight Tues -one twin had stomach bug (sick twelve times in 6 hrs), had littlies last night - other twin had bug + husband, who has true to form tken to his bed!. Guess whos' had les than12 hours sleep in 3 days?!-am thinking of placing a large band aid over my front door!
snowy..hope the bug has left your house by now never to return
Snowy, sounds like you need a Babble break! How old are the twins?
Ty! The twins will be 7 in January & i definately need the babble break! Have had to have 2 quilts cleaned & spent 1/2 hr ;last night salvaging my landing carpet!
oh snowy...so sorry!
Yuck, I feel for you.
Well it could have been worse ( but not much). The children were gret but husband has done the man thing & complains of feeling 'weak'!
Have you ever noticed how, when men are around someone who barfs, barfs back. I think all men have weak stomachs
and it keeps them from having to help clean up
Abe, are there more that 1 ag5/14? The one I have is a marble.
LOL! pida -he's had measles , mupmps, chicken pox (not!) He always says- ooh I feel like that too. So my standard reply is I've got morning sickness - now have that!
yes chiley. i have, so far, marble and my clue
agnes
ok...I was looking at your icon and it didn't seem to fit my ag
oops
chiley, thanks for your icon clue Chiley, i had missed that one
I got your clue and found one more ag5/14...a yellow pungent volatile oil
ooh, thanks Chiley!
forgot about my icon clue. Mine is very easy due to the fact tht the only functioning brain cells I have left are needed for the 200+ words I'm yet to ind!
That's de5/12 then is it, snowy? *grins & ducks*
thats it Jac! LOL
Just popped in to show my clue icon as it is a bird too.
Better mind I don't get hoist by my own pe6/24, hadn't I? LOL.

I am Jacs and clueing 2 ords Hi all
Hi Annie. I'm not really here. I'm in the shed mucking out hutches.
*words
Hi Jacula and FMitch (and assorted birds)

That's funny Jacs 'cos I am at the Post Office clueing, sorry queuing for stamps.
We Babblers are multi-talented!
faerie are you still hereÉ
Well my husband won't be needing any se5/10 today -thats for sure!
shorty, faerie sends you hugs and kisses and best wishes to your daughter
thank you annie
shorty - I think faerie's been packed into a pantechnicon.
LOL
Jac...don't recognize the ga6/24 in your icon
Oh dear, snowy! I take it the lurgey's hit your house, too?
chiley - it's a greedy sea bird.
shorty, she said the truck was going to be an hour late but it looks like faerie and all her boxes are being packed onto the truck for the journey to KY.
with a vengeance Jacula -the only upside is that every towel, bed & carpet in the house is squeaky clean -am hioping it's not my turn next tho
oh ok thanks annie
snowy - same here!
(((((((((SHORTY))))))))))
there she is!
(Except for the mess! My daughter & her b/f are just recovering from it, as it P's daughter. The rest of us are keeping our fingers crossed.)

Hi faerie. I thought the removal men had packed you! LOL.
Hey Punster :)

bit of an evil grid tday eh faerie?

OH Yes Punster :) you picked up on that rather fast LOL
It won't make a lot of difference at the moment LOL!
True!
i'm needing help already :( terrible terrible

what's the clue, hurshy?
the picture is the clue
if i say what it is, nobody gets to guess
who is it?
well i can say that it is mario lopez
nance is not in the grid today . .
saved by the bell hurshey
is there anyone my generation around???
it's sl6/18!!!!
yay :) :)
wurdygurl is correct, and raelite has hit the nail right on his hunky head.
(personally i am more of a zack girl, but whatever)
he's a tough jock with a soft spot for his special lady, Jesse... awwww
lol rae
no he is on bold and the beautiful and dancing with the stars
Can someone point me in teh direction of the an 9/66?
and he hosted "pet stars"...
Iwow, we are the slater trivia girls
his career is not going to tremendously
bunny: a place where you might find a corner of a triangle
an9 = geometry term + Belfast dog
come on b&b is great...kinda
are you kidding? he's totally ripped and completely naked on nip/tuck this year!!
ah, um, well, i didn't know about nip/tuck
Belfast dog??
what is a belfast dog? an irish se6/18?
I didn't know about nip tuck either
oh...the shower scene with Julian McMahon...
okay, any city in that country :)
there was water...and soap....and bubbles...and....
he was in the shower scene with Julian??????? what would Pheobe say?
I was trying not to give it completely away
ok, ok, this is a family site
woah that was out of left field....
as in Irish Se6/18? that's too many letters
yeah i am confused
updated icon
but i know what wurdy means - charmed reference, right?
omg, inge, sorry -- I'm mixing up my clues ... as if I'm not already mixed up enough.... tack the ending si4/4 onto that geometry term.
I thought you were saying that Mario was in the shower with Julian
anyhow hursh, it was tasty-licious.
right!
mario and julian were in the shower together on julian's show, nip/tuck
Ah . .ok
it doesn't work :(
hi everyone! : )
hi to
the geometry term is an5/14?
hiya TO
yes, inge :)
oh oh, silly me
yes, inge
got it now
add the geomertry term with a "place"
was using two geometry terms (one si4/4/ is a geometry term too)
i was trying to put 2 math words together, lol
snap inge2!!!
yeah...math makes me crazy too :(
i like math
hah, hurshy!
I'm glad someone does
and thanks ch and raelite
I guess you have to like math to figure out how many dilithium crystals you need to fly from here to the delta quadrant
:)
of course that totally depends
totally.
:|
you're very kind, inge ... but for the benefit of all, I'll leave clueing to other, higher, better minds ...:D
how big is the ship? how efficient is the engine? do we have the ability to recharge them? are we running into any wormholes? etc.
(that is torgone refraining from being an imp)
(and i am making it harder for him)
:+
do you need to factor in how many boards you'll be sending as well?
let's torture him together, shall we?
you know, when the guy on the planet says "beam me a board"?
lol
presumably to build some kind of shelter and/or flag pole
8|
but no, i do not wish to torture torgone. unlike some governments i could name, i do not believe in fighting fire with fire.
lol
ick, i hate the smell of ramen in the morning
or, you know, any other time.
I don't like it period...
yes, it is a most revolting substance
oh speaking of inedible substances, has anyone ever witnessed anything more memorable than jon stewart offering pervez musharraf a twinkie?
i suppose if you saw kennedy get shot... but as historical moments go, this one is definitely up there.
I don't watch jon stewart...mostyl on principle
I've never understood WHY anyone WOULD watch him
and what principle would that be? the principle of "early to bed, early to rise"? the principle of not watching american television? there are many possibilities here
is the an 9 a compound word beginning with an 5/14?
yup, cnan
well it's more like it has a suffix but that suffix is a word
I think that his "smart" brand of comedy just perpetuates repetition ... satirizing politics isn't anything noteworthy or new
thanks, hurshy
but why does it have to be new? and how can it be, if as solomon says "there is nothing new under the sun"?
douglas?
Bill Maher wasn't intolerable but I've never been able to watch Stewart and not cringe
how many words today
what about stewart makes you cringe?
it doesn't...he's popular and has his funny moments...I just think we should be watching comedy that is more intelligent then just making up stuff
dougls from morocco.......
$3.05
Think its too late in teh day for me to start this :( 305!
have you ever seen Sash Baron Cohen? aka Borat?
yes, i love ali g, borat, and bruno, all three
but i find stewart very funny too.
CJ, it isn't to bad, not to many off the wall words, all variations of...
305 and I only have 55. I could not possibly finish this today.
that's funny....Jon Stewart is just a guy with a funny voice...but that's just what I think...I'm glad he has fans like you sticking up for him
hear hear luckemamala
my stomach seriously HURT from laughing after ali g's science panel, and also after the buzz aldrin interview!
can't wait to see the borat movie...
the buzz aldrin was soooo funny
I'm gonna try out Sudoku unless I can help with a clue?
the moon does exist!
I'll give it the old college try
could I have a clue for the an 6/24, please? (following the 9 -- have the first one)
bunny - can I have clues for 299 words please :D
did you see hwen he interviewed donal trump?
ooh thanks cnan, lemme look
an 6/24 - an + a word for a dark brew without the r
even better was andy rooney
yes - the donald didn't have much use for him, did he
was that the second season? i haven't seen that yet.
CJ, that's take me abit ;)
not using the list today, hurshy? ---I decided I didn't have that much time!
oh man....andy rooney practically beats alig with his type writer
Its olay you only need to help me with 295 now
well, i haven't decided yet cnan. 58 to go though.
lol, i loved when he was touring the UN and didn't think it was fair for michael jordan to be equal to a whole country
I broke down with 32 left and whipped out the list.
not a beer drinker, bunny, but thanks.
oh jeez... Ali G? peeeyuke!
good for you -- I still have 128 left.
I must be from an entirely different generation
well who do you find funny, metal?
3rd an 6/24 - an + tall letter + how old you are
George Carlin
metaleather - certainly there are moments when he can be offensive, but in between, you almost die laughing, so it's worth it...
got it bunny, thank you
oh yeah...the 6 words you can't say on tv
Ron White
Kelly Monteith
...and I meant 2nd an 6/24
Bill Engvall
Oh I agree metal -- I like his sense of humour also
Abbott and Costello
See ya'll Sunday.
2000 year old man?
let's see... heard of george carlin and abbott and costello...
Who's on First makes me laugh out loud every time
I have Carlin's comments on ageing framed and hanging in the powder room.
Victor Borge.... Phonetic punctuation
oh I love that gag too
yes, victor borge, i find that funny also
right Im too tired for it so stopping :) ttfn!
I've loved that bit since I was a kid
Bill Cosby's stand up is great too
see ya later , bunny
his older stuff was best, but some of the more current is ok too
robin williams - gosh i can't wait to see "man of the year"
I liked Flip Wilson
later CJ
oh yes, definitely Robin Williams
bye CJ
oh noooo it's only 8:30....
i just think what jon stewart is doing is so... i mean, look at the irony - the day after he interviews musharraf, katie couric has a story about him doing it, they're doing stories on it on cable news shows... he's the one getting the real interviews and all they can do is cover him!
you know that new movie with Robin Williams, hurshy? Watch out? ;-)
here's one that will really date me.... Red Skelton doing the "girdle" routine
metal - I adored Red Skelton - watched him all the time
he really does interview people much more nicely than anyone else. he is respectful and actual exchanges of ideas can take place.
why do i need to watch out?
I like Jon Stewart - no problems for me. :-)
Jon's show - and everyone else's - is all scripted with pre=approved questions
the comedian, based a lot on JS, gets elected...not a bad thing in some respects
remember Clem Kadiddlehopper, and the two seagulls, and Freddie?
sorry to sound like a conspiracy theorist
of course, rae - but nobody else has people on with whom they disagree and talks to them that way
oh yes - and his "good nite and God bless" - he was the best
it's cool though, we need variety
he actually wants the people with whom he disagrees to be able to present their best argument
and how great was it that he got crossfire canned? :)
Maybe I'll have to try JS again... perhaps the times I saw him before and which set my teeth on edge were flukes
i agree that for sheer hilariousness, ali g is funnier, but jon stewart has more purpose, so i like them both.
the crossfire thing must have been planned...there is no way that happened naturally
NOW you sound like a conspiracy theorist.
metal - what set your teeth on edge? sometimes there is rather infantile semi-offensive humor - i know my mom would not approve... is that it?
lol...
I can deal with borderline or overtly raunchy... I think it was the infantile bits that did it
too much time in a dark room poking voodoo dolls...
i find that most comedians have some bits i don't like, but it can be worth it for the other parts
OMG Hurshy, that is the best icon clue ever (sorry to interrupt comedian convo)
i think it would serve his purpose better to cut out some of the infantile and raunchy stuff - i think it would do my mom good to watch him, and that would totally turn her off.
:) thank you abe :)
I still see the dali painting, hursh
fresh, raelite, it's worth it!
*refresh
if you click rae, you'll see the other
i mean you can refresh to see it consistently but then you gotta wait for everything to reload.
speaking of voodoo dolls...
http://www.virtual-design.com/demos/vo odoodoll/voodoo.asp?section=demo&subse ction=voodoo
refreshing now...
there we go :)
Hurshy, for some reason I'm not getting your icon on your profile page.
hmmm... don't know what i can do about that...
hey i just stopped chatting long enough to find a word!
arties: the breakfast cereal of artists
morning everybody
nestle crunch: the breakfast of champions
Hi Charm!
hi charm
hi charm
Hi abe, rae - been a while since I've been here
just found the dr 7 --- does anyone besides me remember that one on TV?
Hi Wolvie!
ooh there's a dr7?
definitely
yes hurshy -- think Jack Webb
I even remember the name of one of the minor characters
ooh, thanks for the clue Cybernan
and the plot of a couple of episodes
just the facts ma'am
uh oh, my too youngness is hurting me
I do cyber - looonnnnggg ago. :-)
i do try to watch older things but i haven't seen them all...
hurshy- did you ever watch Square one television (a math show)?
there's an article about the dr 7 in the NY times about them doing a dr7 about those envolopes that had the anthrax in them several years ago
did i ever watch square one?!!?!! you did too?!!?!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
they spoofed dr 7
I'd forgotten that line charm -- lol
I did! I loved it!
oh, of course, i know dr7, i just ddin't see it cause it was all twisty
I remember how they used to portray the pot smokers... it was almost like watching Reefer Madness
I was very young (sorry) when it was on, but I do remember the opening....
here comes dirk niblick of the math brigade, he'll look you right in the eye...
I am missing (amongst other things) an ea 5/10 - I have the food one - what am I missing??
i occassionally get the isoceles triangle song in my head...
2 food ones wolvie
Don't apologize for youth, Charm -- it's just that some of us wish we still had it!!!
if we are talking dr 7, I was very young as well. :-)
there are 2 food ones.
it soars and is your country's national symbol
abe, i get ALL the songs in my head! i keep them there intentionally :)
go backwards, then go forwards, if the number's still the same then it's a... palindrome
oh duh - I had the other bird ones of that. Jeez
Hurshy- I would love to get the episodes on DVD. they really helped me in math!
nope, had the bird too - there is another
i KNOW, i totally wish you could buy the whole series.
they do sell some of the mathnets but i think that's it.
the bird is a 5/14...
2 food ones, wolvie.
also 6/24
Wolvie = the one who dines and past tense.
why did i not have the foresight to tape them! nine, nine, nine, that crazy number nine...
I need an ea 5/10 that is not one who ea** - rae, I have all the bird ones, thanks
ahhhh - thanks charm - man - I am so blind sometimes. :-)
yw
Wow. big grid. Will start it up but no intention of finishing. It is lovely weather today -- not too hot, and dry. I have a lot to do and won't get to it all if I drink solid coffee all day!
mathman, your mission is to eat all the multiples of 7. when you encounter a number, you will have 3 seconds to make your decision, but beware the insatiable mr. glitch, he will eat YOU if you are wrong
fractions- ff-f-ff--f-f-f fractions
hi stif
stid...
an5 dance, an5 dance, come and join me hooooon
hi stid
hi rae! Is it still lovely weather for you also?
but who's counting? "once you place a digit on your board - YOU CAN'T MOVE IT"
oh yeah
ah hurshy! you bring back so many happy memories!
you saw it too stid??!!?!
didn't they say today was the last day though...I was watching q13 this morning and she said it was going to get chilly
yay!
hello peoples
hello
hi iamb
last year, one of my students was debbie allen's son, so when she came to talk to me about his math, i was like, weren't you once on a show called "square one"?
hello
yes, I think tomorrow is supposed to cloud over and it might even dribble a bit for us this weekend. Not sure about you --
hi blank
and she was like, "oh, yes, a looong time ago..." like she had almost forgotten
i don't suppose that's the usual question people have for debbie allen...
REALLY? Oh my goodness. That is SO cool... I love math shows. Not really great at math compared to other things but it's fun in no-pressure situations.
en 6/21, anyone?
how could you forget being on square one? lol
i have an autographed picture of george frankly and pat tuesday
Debbie Allen has done some really good shows. Math One didn't last nearly long enough, in my opinion. My kids learned so much from things like that.
looking for that myself, nan
there's not much wind, stid, I don't think it will rain here or where you are any time soon
hurshy -- how did you manage that?
Stid- we were lamenting the fact that Square One is not on DVD!
is it just me or is this a hard one today???
why don't you guys write letters to the production company?
If it were on DVD, I would grab it in a heartbeat.
iamb- it is certainly "involved' today
cause they had that one time where there was a problem and if you identified the error you could send in for a prize, which was like a bookcover and a bunch of other square one things, but i wrote this sooooo gushing letter about how much i loved the show and so in addition, i got an autographed picture! i know it wasn't standard cause my sister sent for the prize also and she got everything but the pic.
hi Iam - love your handle - it's interesting today. :-)
hm. strange sound in the background. better see what the dog is into. back soon.
me too
bye stid
bye abe
bye stidmama, abe.
wolvie- i'm stilll here (chained to my desk) i was "me too-ing" the thought of purchasing S.one. DVD
oh! lol - sorry - but - gl** you are here.
do you suppose PBS would make DVDs for 3 people? :)
http://www.squareonetv.org/
for a fee, hurshy. :-)
thanks! i will be here for awhile! wow, thanks Raelite!
oooh wow thanks rae!!!
(common multiple man was my icon on superhero day!)
ga 8 clue?
omg I DO remember this show
abe is your icon clue the last ag5/14 by any chance?
thanks rae. back again. The ONE bag the kid didn't take down to the compost was the one that smelled "really good" (to a dog's nose) *sigh*
the baseball....I remember now...that was a long time ago
hi inge 2
Inge2- yes, according to what i have
wolvie, hi!
look at the less than zero picture! i love that song!
hm...any more clues? I don't think I know that word...
ok i sent an email to them!
hello inge2!
lol - I hope you get it!
brb phone
hi stid!
hello everyone.............will be in and out, as i have pots of soup cooking on every burner
anyone else want to do us a favor and send an email asking for square one to be put on DVD? it's a teensy bit deceptive but OH how i need these DVDs
hi kalea!

stid - go to the link www.squareonetv.org, they help you send it to the folks at "sesame workshop"
Wolvie, i am going to email you for the recipe too, if you don't mind
hey all! looks like my babble celibacy can end now - we're over 300 :)
no problem, abe
i was thinking of you at the flip firefly :)
stid: http://www.squareonetv.org/
thanks!
hi firefly
well that was easy. Done. And fingers, toes and eyes crossed.
en 6/21, please?
thank you stid!!!!!
LOL firefly!
I'll type it into word sometime today - unless I can find an internet link. so expect emailed recipe tomorrow
i will look cnan
hi Nan!
hursh - according to the message board you may be able t o get SQ1 on tape from your library
aww, thx hurshy :)
Yippee tiyay! Half way ..
lol rae, not my library - it's teeny. :) i know, there's exchange and all. but i need to OWN them.
there are alot of yankee doodles here
Hi stid :)
http://www.sesameworkshop.org/aboutus/ inside_contact.php --> here is where you can send an email to the makers of SQ1 and ask for DVDs
gosh, imagine if i could watch square one every day, over and over
is that different from the link from the squaronetv.org site, rae?
there are people in the message board who have all the episodes on VHS...they are chatting about exchanging them
it's the sesame street web site hursh
right but the squareonetv.org link takes you to a sesame workshop page
then it probably is the same
anyway i sent a requestr
okay, new icon: warning it is a word that doesn't count (but it is in the grid)
wowee wowee wowee i hope they listen
lovely, stid :)
thanks hurshy.
this may be the most excited you will ever see me. i mean until the day when they announce that you CAN buy the DVDs
Hi everybody!
cyber - did you get the en 6/21 yet? I've had no luck
hi gramma
*gasp* just actually looked at how many P words there are. *wanders off in a daze*
hi gramma
D or P... hmmm
still looking, wolvie
cybernan, I don't have it either. What a nice grid though!
found it!!!
it's weird
it has to have a 2-pt letter in it somewhere
add homonym of require
thanks, hurshy
that's 250 words for me, hahahahaha
i don't think the count ever actually counted that high though.
ty, hurshy
I'll just be Big Bird and lumber around being nice and helpful... the Count always intimidated me.
oh no, don't thank ME, if people ask for clues, i get words, it is i who thank the clue askers
"pitter" is not a word??
i liked oscar
homonym of require?
i am sure there are lots of pitters in canned peach factories.
firefly, I pitter around the house all the time
and there's the pitter patter of little feet or rain on the roof.
yes hursh, and the "pitter patter" of little feet?
lol
gramma - you probably putter
good grief - what an odd word - thanks for the clue, hurshy
ankh... yes if you require something you .... it
Does anyone have the 5/12 between the thing to come and the pasta?
hi ankh
Oops, meant pe5/12
yeah the whole pitter thing bugged me too!
change last letter of the pasta catsmm?
thanks Hurshy for that en word. I have a huge 64 words already bwah-ha-ha!
*Greets Wolvie & Hurshy & all!*
or, i mean, there are 3... the other two are... umm... ummm...
Have that one Hurshy, aren
Hi Ankh
aren't there some before that?
hurshy - there are some clips on youtube you might find interesting:http://www.youtube.com/wat ch?v=1pIaTalYaAc
hello torgone! {{{good morning}}}
tor - :( school firewall blocks this.
hi tor
hey tor
any hints for ag 6/24 and ag 5/14 the last 2 ag`s
yes catsmm... there are two, one is the plural of the other...
:(
Hurshy, it's like re[require] it? Need & want aren't working for me. *rubs sleepy eyes*
Hi all! :)
majmom, do you have the origin of tequila yet?
a homonym is something that sounds the same but is spelled differently... you have the right idea ankh...
Ankh -- try a word that sound like need, but spelled more in a bready way (without the k)
ag5/14 = a + opening in the fence (g4 today)
not sure
ga 8?
have those 2
that must be torgone's word -- *thinking: origin of tequila* wish I were more educated in likker-words
ag6/24 = a + too much light shining in the eyes (g5 today)
a + past tense of give.
one more a... hmm...
got it! that clue from Charm gave me Tor's and a stone... thanks!
we get stuck on the same ones, cyber. still looking for that one as well
i don't know if i have the origin of tequila or not, i don't recognize all my a words :(
Wolvie, which one?
torgone, why did you make a sad face just now?
ty got the ag 6/24
still back in the g's -- looking for ga 8
<====
The origin of tequila is a succulent plant like an aloe only bigger!
he made a sad face because of my firewall
the ga 8, charm
Stid, I get the bready analogy but I am still not getting the word... the re part not linking to the homonym part.
sorry, Wolvie, not there yet....
rats, i am not plant educated either
ga8 is a combination of strong wind and the hours of darkness
there is no re part, ankh
stid - I was sad hurshy can't watch some Square One TV clips on youtube ..
it's an en word
Torgone, lookin' good there! (hic!)
it's a cactus, hurshy
oh -- firewalls! pooh. bah. humbug. until I get a virus, then I am glad to have them again.
ankh - when you require something, you are in need. sub letters for that and you'll get it
ga8, a girls name + opp of day, alt spelling
thanks for the ga 8 Haz. see you all in a bit, off to lunch
thanks haz. cactus... what do i know about cacti... snoopy has a cousin that sits by one...
Charm, you are my hero today! keep the nice words coming. :-)
(don't worry tor, i really pretty much have them all in my head :) )
later abe!
Bye abe - enjoy your lunch.
<that's an earlier clue>
THANKS charm - the girls name I had, seeing that it's my middle name. :-)
bye abe
thanks!
Hurshy, Stid, Wolvie -- at last! No leading R, that's what had me so stuck. Thanks!
this cactus word, what is it, length/points wise? i might have it, i just don't know
great clue, haz -- thanks
a + past tense of give. hurshy
Well, hurshy, ag * * * and some people think it's Vile.
<==== ag5/20 - a + donated
haz - I missed your clue for the ga 8 - sorry about that
AH! two math/greek words (found by myself)
ok, then i do have that one.
*giggling uncontrollably* presumably everyone else has that one now too, hurshy!
an 9/66?
it's just with the log moving so fast i couldn't tell which things were clues for the same words :)
an9 = corner of a triangle + s4/4
place for your take, majmom
en6,7 or 8 place?
there's a 7 and 8 tooo!!!!
thanks for the 9 charm
en plus sl***, charm - then add on for the 8 - a past tense
ty got it
thanks Wolvie. the en6 please?
en6 is en + homonym of require
(here we go again) :)
thans, hurshy!
(sorry, got lost in the earlier chat)
the 6 was the require thing going about earlier - when you don't have something you are en**** - last 4 letters like what you do to bread
could use a line on the other 2 9's...
I'm discovering that multi-tasking has its limitations. I can cook and babble, I can cook and iron but I can't cook and babble and iron at the same time. Back later, when the ironing is done....
Poor Haz!
lol
bowling P**s are placed with a Pi* se****, hursh
bye haz

i should go have lunch, ttfn
See you all later...

ooh, good answer: Because Poe wrote on both
(from www.boingboing.net)
i don't think carroll meant there to be an answer, he was trying to be nonsensical

HI kAL
firefly, thanks got it, new word for me.

hello to all those just joining in :)
hi Kallia -- wow influx of UK types all of a sudden. Did you just finish dinner?
bbl
I just found this site two grids ago. This is a quantum leap in difficulty.
yw peri, gl4 to help
started rainy here, but it's a lovely afternoon - fabulous news, i've got an outdoor event in an hour.
mmm, quantum leap, such a fun show
stidmama - no dont get to play much at the moment.I take a quick peek and if too big wont attempt during the week
oh pebble, I know how you feel! my first several grids were under 150, then we got a HUGE one.
Oh Atalante how can you say that look at Ann Widdicombe!!
outdoor event? Like a parade or party? Hope you have fun.
welcome pebbles - it's huge - but you can do it!
yes and freezing carrot and coriander soup...a glut of carrots!
ag6/24s??help!
I dunno. I wanna quit at 169.
see, haz, atalante has helped us find the line between realistic and cynical :)
that sounds like an interesting combination, Kallia -- is it sweet?
i like the huge grids, more fun if you ask me - less pressure to finish if you have over 100 words left after trying at it all day
mmm, kallia, sounds good!
i should grate up some carrot for marty.
wow. Was having so much fun I missed passing the halfway point! Need to go be productive anyway... sunlight's a-wastin!
not particularly sweet, but is is good!
congrats stid - i'm just at 17 :(

I have a soft spot for Ann Widdecombe. She's good to her mother.
I'll try your direction. Pick it up!
Ann Widdecombe is definitely a source for good ... she's an MP around here, so we see her around on the news etc a lot. I have great respect for her!
hello al
12 *limp limp*
Have to admit I like her better now she says what she really thinks and doesnt toe the party line
I was just joking! But I quite like her too

hi Smiley! Hurshy - you can do it!!
I have a d missing from the top line, any help please?
Hye, babblers, I only need 4 more words and am supposed to go out for dinner. Can you please help me find pe 7/32 and 8/45?

that bothers me...I have other people in WA too you know...
Hi, had a long talk with my friend on Vason Island, and promptly couldnt recall the island with the flower garden or the one you went to with Fiz. Can you tell me those names?
I think its very bizarre though that Ann W is now married to Mo Mowlam's widower!
and he's online in Yahoo right now, in fact
No that is Clare Short isnt it?
oh, tell her we hope she recovers quickly from surgery!
Don't know why all the circuits would be busy, there's nothing special happening around here today that I know of.
Isn't that Care Short?
smiley g-f, how's smiley doing? give our best...
she is doing great
Clare even
Is that true Atalante? I hadn't heard that.
"I'm George McFly . . . I'm your de7"
lol Jen!!!!!

He must like strong women!
yup - heard it on the news a few weeks ago - NO - I'm being stupid. Its not Ann W. Its Claire Short. She's married to Mo's widower. Duh.

It was interesting while it lasted.....
Daisy, keep trying, I guess. I need to get up and do some things around the house before I have to leave.

sorry inge - stid got you first - i was being important on the phone.
i hope they keep it up, i've been waiting 6 years for them to get to like each other :)
Gramma! it'll be okay!
must be a friendly day. Hobbit and Silverclaw spent the night curled up together in Hobbit's bed!
hmmm. something in the air... over england and the states both... lol
but I think Hobbit was just too tired to complain - she'd been chasing rabbits all over the beach all evening!
heh
it's a friendly day here - massachussets decided to let same-sex couples from RI marry there. yay!
why RI specifically?
does anyone have a clue for the la7/28 above the last la4?
long, complex story, hursh - basically b/c we don't have any laws that explicitly prevent it (DOMA, const. amendment, etc.). I'm not legally smart enough to explain it succinctly
pl of la6/18
Fireworks for me, Off to my birthday dinner. Bye
by inge and congrats
don't have the la6/18 either
happy day inge - enjoy!
bye inge and congrats
your birthday?
Mooch - just like the other la6/7 combo, but with a different second vowel
well, that makes enough sense that you don't need to be any more legally savvy than that
enjoy your diner
wtg inge
like the dead language, but double the cons, mooch.
i gotta run myself - see you later. thanks hursh - i'm working on my legalese....
thanx all
Bye Fiz
stid - I wish I had known you were at Butchart - I live like 10 mins form there
we could have met!
I am completely flummoxed by the pe7/8 combo after pe*** the man's name. Can anyone help???
oof i'm so stuck
pe7 - first three letters as in domesticated animal then sound alike for what trains run on.
Thanks very much Haz - never heard of it!! Fireworks!

sorry bichon, my clue was for the in8/40!!
yo mymuseisme,hows the grid tonight?
my grid loaded without the S!
challenging, since I have to try and get a big chunk finished in less than an hour
oh no !!!
hello fran!
egad
!!! reload and resist typing anything until it's all loaded
Lots of luck! Hi !!!
that worked
Lots of luck! Hi !!!
any hints for the an words? I cant seem to get more than two...???
pe7/40 please
april, three of them have to do with the intersection of lines (they form an an***)
those two I got, guess I should look for the third of those!
time to go already, take care everybody!
pab, pe + sometimes vowel + choo choo ***in + another consonant, similar to the pe7 and 8 before it
bye !!!
april, an6/18 and plural 7/28, an + **** armstrong
an5/10, a + not far
thanks franmag
yw pab
any clues for 2 x an9 words please?
an6/24, an + not small minus an R
Can someone tell me how to insert the flag and person icon
thank you Fran, as always
an9/66, an5/14 + alt spelling of the sense you use your eyes for
yw april!
msilver, when you go to your profile, you have to indicate your sex and where you live and they will appear
also, you have to click on the "let people see my profile" check box.
hey - just back from checking out that site of yours fran - helps when i get the addy correct - too darn cute!
and people tell ME i have too much time on my hands, lol
a lot of work for less than a bite of a hamburger!!
Fran.....not getting it al all...sorry
flask, an5/14 + si4/4
and there is only one an9 flask
fran - yeah - that sure did take a lot of work - but i'm glad they showed all the steps, makes it easier to appreciate :)
i hope they won whatever contest they entered!
Hi all, missing a va5/16 , I have v+alcoholic drinks, and someone who parks cars
thanks Fran
got that one Fran, the niner, that was a doozie
peri, anagram of the alcoholic one
Va5/16 = not true - f
yw flask and april!
Thanks Fran and Dawn
yw peri
i'm catching up on my blog reading right now, does anyone read waiterrant?
I love waiterrant Fran
eg4/6 please
eg + short for commercial or e + slang for woman
almost done with the an's. Just need the 6/18 and 7/28
eg4/6 is short for equal.
snppng, i had to pare down my list of "food" blogs that i read, i kept waiterrant, he's great
thanks muse, just checked my list and already had it
Yeah, he's a great writer. I love the food blogs too. Probably has something to do with working at a pizza place for way too long.
april, an6/18 means to toughen or temper, an + **** armstrong (astronaut)
thanks Dawn
se6/24 please
what other food blogs do you read snppng? i have a huge list, but don't mind checking out new ones.
there isn't an O in this puzzle right?
peri, it sounds like an african nation without the L on the end.
no april, why?
first te5/12 and te6/21 please
just making sure I was not supposed to have one!
Pab - the clue Fran just gave is for you
peri, te + opp of out + consonant and then plural for the 6
sorry peri and pab!!
Waiterrant and the Barmaid blog are the only ones I read regularly. I sometimes haunt a few vegitarian cooking blogs too.
thanks peri and franmag
thanks Fran
snppng, i think one hot stove is vegetarian, that one is good.
yw pab and peri!
I'll check that out.
te7/36 please
for some reason that **** armstrong is not coming out
april, also rhymes with getting down on your knees (the last part) but spelled differently
I know the word Fran, but I just need to monkey type, for some reason it isn't working.....arrgghh
sorry april, it might just rhyme with **** armstrong, not sure if he has an i in his name or not
april, start with the far right A
te7 and the te5 right after it please
it goes up then back down and then left
peri, te7 is like the de7
gotta run, try to bbl, HK down to 79
te5/10 after it is the name of a physicist
later muse!
don;t have the de7 Fran, clue please
I am sure I typed it by now Fran, I am thinking the puzzle gods are not allowing it at this time
peri, de7 is a property of matter that is measured by comparing volume to weight
Fran, te5/0 physicist, is it a name I would know from high school or college not being a science major
april, make sure you are doubling the firs consonant.
*first
I am doing that
something else and I will DOH anyminute!
ok Fran I am stuck on the de7 still and the te5 and the te7 :)
April, the man's name is not spelled the normal way. I had problems with it, too.
peri, he is known for his experiments with static electricity, you always see people with their hair sticking straight up around a machine that he invented.
Fran I know of the experiments, just can't remember the person's name
Peri, search Edison's rival.
nicola te***
april, an then double the consonant + t** (not coffee) + consonant. that's the 6, make plural for the 8
there is also a band with that name
thanks fran... that gave it to me.... I was going the wrong way
yw arlene
yea found the scientest, thanks Dawn and Fran
cool peri!
te5/12, te + r*** of an orange or lemon
plural for the te6/21
sukee, a couple of the members of that band played in Guam (where i'm from) in the 90s as "City Kid"
actually 80s when i was in college.
Interesting :)
hi all - back to finish - any clues for the last te 6/21?
wow i finally got it but had to write it on paper first! I don't know why I could not see that
just a piece of useless trivia to clog your brain!!
Fran just found the de7 - I was going in the wrong direction
lol
wolvie, add a consonant to the te5/10 right before it
cool peri!
it's kind of twisty april!
thanks fran - blind today
np wolvie! :-)
yah it is, I am dizzy now
tr5/16 please

missing 1st or 2nd ne4/4 have tidy
NM found it
ne5/14 please
so is there a list you can see and cheat from?
peri, rhymes with he***, a babbler from canada
ne5/14--meshlike?
the lists give you clues, not answers :)
I don't see clues as cheating but there is a list, go to the bottom of your screen and click on licketys babble clues
thanks liba and Fran
yw peri!
yw, peri :)
I have 55 words
this is m first try

peri, de + first to letters of bird home and then plural for the 5
wow peri, I have 186 left and am just about finished, I don't have the stamina!
found the de4 and de5
yw inge2!
goooo sukee!
Fran I found them before you clue but thanks
April, it does take a lot of stamina. have been playing off and on since the flip
okay peri1
last word - ga 5/20?
oh wow peri, this is a long one for sure
en6/21
peri, en + k**** the dough to make bread
I have the an9 and pi9. What am I missing please.

bichon, past tense of la5/10 (to make la4/4)
ROFL stid - put the victory letter after the ga 4/6 above it.
thanx franmag
like where you bury someone peri - but use a d instead of a g
(not using list. which one is before it?)
thanks Wolvie, what an odd word
alternate spelling of a plus, or detergent name ga**.
OH! found it -- thanks Wolvie! :-)
that was for you stid
i gotta get going now everybody! scrabble time! see you all later!
sure thing, stid and y/w peri
later Fran!
soooooo - last call...
bye fran
ga5/20 isn't in dict., but I think it's yiddish for thief-- usually w/ an f...
59 left, tired, see you tomorrow
iF we had an F I would have been happier, libra. :-)
well done, peri! see you tomorrow.
well guys - since no more clues, I am out of here
oh -- that's why it looked familiar, liba. :-)
bye peri, and *poof*
yes, we're not that Fortunate... :)
see you tomorrow, Wolvie. thanks
How many words today?
hi, stid!
hi liba! how's lie?
this is impossible
half these words must be made up!
hi stid and 305 words
or life, whichever you prefer. I think my keyboard is getting old.
Or maybe my fingers are getting old. *sigh* either way, something's not working!
Van -- there are lots of unfamiliar words in here, but most of them are real if uncommon.
seems so
okay, my goal after halfway (already done that) is to get at least one word from each letter. I need something from the E in the middle of the second column to do this. Any ideas?
2nd si6/18 please?
life's good, ty, stid, & you?
they are all ELs, stid
el5.10 - you could be happy if you get this stid
en7/40-- to force into servitude?
life is good here, too, liba. The kids are healthy, the dogs are happy (though never played with enough) and my roof won't leak even if the walls still need to be fixed. AND it was sunny today. :-)
thanks turtle
stid: try "you better behave, or e***!"
hi lynxxx
and thanks. I have now met all my goals for this grid.
begging again: si6/18? I'm stumped
TY libarebel!
what can you get out of Z?
inge, I have two si 6/18, the only difference between them is the final consonant.
inge - rhymes with baby cat
yw, lynxx :)
nothing, Van. The Z is not used today.
oh ok, thanks
and now that E box is completely gray! LOL you folks are the BEST!
thanks Tea!
do they go gray when you get all words starting with that letter?
ty, TnC for si6/18!
you betcha!
yes, Van
Van -- have you checked out Angelsong's Resource Pages? there is a link in the Friends of Babble section at the bottom of this page. She has info on the game and some really good "help" links as well...
and might you have the se6/24?
en 6/21?
I don't
hello TeaNCrackers! I see you are newish. Welcome!
I'll try that thanks Stid
hello at last!
yes, newish. I jumped into this both feet first!
so pleased you have joined us. My step-grandmother lives in Reno, btw!
{{{JILLIBUS}}} where have you been all day?
te7/36 anyone?
I've lived here my whole life
stidmama, can you give me a clue for the si 6/18
the si 6/18 that I have are baby si**** so the parents can go out
it's been a lot of little busynesses today, stid
and the same word with a different ending consonant.
I have 119 to go.
te7/36 = the state of being te5/10. (Begins with a numbers and ends with what sounds like a big town.)
hi everyone! : )
I have 127 to go
evening kids! 6 to go for me but I have an iffy wireless connection
ha...240 for me
go Jill! *laces up racing shoes*
Hi again, btw.
182 left for me - I was just getting used to those small ones and being able to finish them
hi kristin! did you get outside any today? It was glorious down here!
hi again Jacula. Are you feeling better from a couple days ago?
thank you Jacula!
can you get this puzzle with a smaller grid?
yep stid...just got back from a long walk with my husband
y/w, Inge.
That was a great clue. I got one. You said there were 2 with a different final consonant.
go stid who surpasses all *pulls on gumboots*
good for you. I might drag Tom out later for a short walk, too.
hi jacs! : )
1st si6/18 is like if you are sm***** by love's arrow but without the m.
sounds good stid...only after you master this monster right?!?
thanks msilver. Yes, just try alternate spellings randomly (at least that how I found it...) not sure what it means
I also checked out your nice website. It's very nice and Tom seems great. You're lucky!
can you get this game in smaller grids?
oh sure, right. I don't think I'll finish tonight. It's a good evening for a family game of scrabble or something.
van..it chnages every day..... sometimes smaller sometimes larger
Van - Yes.
thanks msilver. He's a good guy, and yes, I think I am lucky.
Van..the grid sizes vary from day to day this is on the higher end but definitely not our largest
AHA - smaller grids sound right up my street
where can I find the smaller versions?
Yesterday's was only 70-some words I think (after a while they all roll up together)
ohhh
so I can't go choose a different one?
hi fellow babblers
the grids show up randomly, Van, the older grids are in the archives but not really "playable"
hi annie
Van - on the days they happen. Today is not one of them!:)
stidmama, like the dog from the green country
Van...you just take what you can get from day to day...some only play smaller ones people like me...well, we're addicted and play anything
hi annie!
darn it
thanks folks
no van - just go with the day-to-day flow!
and I think the small ones can sometimes be harder
Van, the grids change everyday and I pray for the small ones, didnt get my prayer answered today
seems like a bad day for my first try!
Hi Stid, happy Grant is feeling better
Hello everyone! what a grueling grid!
hey everyone!
last va5/16 please? (begs, like a se6/18 dog)
ok - i think i've taken care of everything i needed to & can sit & play til i'm done
me too. fortunately it wasn't a bit flu-ey thing this time, just a head cold.
yes van, I'd agree this grid has some tough ones in it
hi helen
hi helen!
hi lbd!
Van, if you can get as many as you do on your first try that's good! big grids like this are wicked on everyone
and kristin
76 to go - anyone wanna race?
van, it doesn't really matter, because half the fun is the chat from all over, and getting as many words as you can. I'll be happy today if I get halfway
Inge - several little Valeries + a vowel.
inge...opposite of true, change the fist letter
hi annie!
but Jill. You ARE halfway already! :-)
hiya stid, kristin, annie, lbd, jili, inge, e1
kristinc - why didn't I think of the simple way of clueing that? LOL.
yep...I'll race you helen, 2 to go here :) (the only time I'd ever stand a chance of beating you!)
hi there helen btw!
I doubt I'll make 100
da6.21 pls
no I'm not, stid! I have 129 words with 176 still left to fine!
merci beaucoup, kristin
LOL kristin!
*find
Van - You might surprise yourself. The word count creeps up fast in these big grids.
OH! I thought you meant you had 129 to go... *grin*
no worries Jac...you had your brain occupied with clueing some of the crazier ones!
yw inge
My icon clue is for a greedy sea bird, ga6/24.
Stid, are we having a story tonight?
oh I was startled with the da6.21
van - another part of the fun is clicking on the icons and meeting the people whose profiles you find. Some have some wild stories (ch, renfield, evanonut)
I decided to write the story directly to the website today because the grid was so big. It's already up -- be forewarned, if you don't like boats or swimming you might not like how this chapter ends...
jacula, I was about to change mine to that!
good ole stid, leaving us in suspense about her story!
Lots of other words to choose to illustrate, jilli.
my kingdom for the se/24!
HI EVERYONE! HI JACS!
stid, will read it later, love boats and swimming but I am still forewarned, hmmmm
se6/24 that is
hi TO!
Now Jill -- I didn't say exactly what happens ;-)
Having said that, since I'm done, I suppose I could change my icon a few times. Problem is, site's slow to refresh today, it being a big grid, so perhaps not such a good idea.
fireworks! who needs what?
hi TO!
I need the se6/24 too but I will give only one horse
se6.24 - african (?) country without the last letter
didn't know the profiles were clcikable
se6/24!
Hi Temple!
inge: african nation less the final consonant
YAY kristinc! I need the last 112 words please... *wicked grin*
hi temple
hiya to !!
lynxxx, that was a PERFECT clue! :-)
didi anyone ever clue that da6?
pity I can't claim it!
indeed it was...fireworks, and txxx lynxxx
I did! - I said I was startled by the word
Van - Yes, the profiles are clickable. Every Friday we have an icon as a clue day. On other days we have themes. You don't have to do the themes if you don't want to though.
YAY inge2!
yay inge
Yay Inge!
Stid...I'll that type 'o clueing to chj!
wtg inge
phew
*ponders clue*
Well done, Inge!
YAY all those who have conquered this Goliath!!!
Too true Jilli
insert leave into my last comment for it to make sense...connection issues here
ty inge!
so now what kristin? a long night of pining for the babble board? parcheesi again? another walk? *giggle*
congrats, kristin!!!***!!!
da6 & 7 are da4/5 (pointy pub 'weapon') + French masculine (sing. & pl.) for 'the'. It means 'to scuttle about'.
how do you make a profile?
i have 42 to go
would anyone like some clues?
BBQ, a rented movie and I need to make a giant sign for a friend who I am surpising at the airport in the morning
when you join as a paying member, Van (a one-time lifetime fee) you get the ability to add a profile.
Also, the paying members have the "Tile stats" and "word stats" available. Yours will disappear after two weeks.
I see
what's the fee?
Oh, that sounds like a super evening, kristin! I hope you'll have fun. it's actually easier to find people at the airport nowadays, I think. I picked up my dad a couple weeks ago
phantom word: gavel
14.95 fpr lifetime membership
She's been gone a month in the Phillipines (over her 50th birthday) and claimed that since she was gone, then we couldn't do anything to embarass her when in actuality, it just makes it that much easier to surprise her :)
I think it's something like $15?
van - it's US$14.95
ok, thanks
Van, it is well worth it
oh HO! that is just too much, kristin... she'll be so happy to see you. :-)
well, as I can't add it, I'm Rosemary, 20, from London
yep, we're coming dressed in black with a walker...good times!
okay, I want to find 9 more words then I will stop for the evening.
other folks need clues before I depart?
Welcome then, Rosemary. There are lots of people who can't go pro (yet) who play regularly.
I'd likea clue for any word begining in I!
hi rosemary!
Hi Rosemary! welcome (although this is a bad grid to start with)
ooh wait, got one!
see you la***
thanks folks :)
what's the biggest grid anyone here remembers?
hi Rosemary, nice to meet you
*blush* oh Annie -- I've been saying that all day without thinking! LOL
oh, i would love a la*** right now
there was one with something like 450 words once...
van - US$14.95 is 8 pounds today
Stid, and no one caught you, lol. hi jilli
450...gah!
I'm a skint student so I'll have to try the game for a while before stmuping up the cash
I would too, annie, but not until I get 6 more words...
Well Rosemary -- there are holidays coming up... a gentle or direct hint to the parental units sometimes works!
'night all. tx for the help. :-)
haha might be worth a try
good night Inge, sweet dreams and see you tomorrow!
don't blame you, rosemary! why did you choose 'van the man'?
goodnight
because I'm a big fan of Van Morrison!
nite, inge!
I see, I think
*googling van morrison*
he's a singer in case you're not sure, and also known as Van the Man
I think we've had a 500+ grid once.
Babble is a great gift....but be warned....it is extremely addictive
Rosemary - I know Van the Man.
Jacula, I bet you finished the 500 + grid!
Jill, always oogling someone!
Jacula, was it you who just went to see him live or was that someone else?
i like van halen
Annie - Yes. Since Dr_God doesn't put a health warning on the site, we must do it. LOL.
Rosemary - No, not me.
hiya Hi there!
I've seen a lot of other bands live but not Van.
hi mama!
Jacula, I dont think there will ever be a grid that you cant finish...you are that good!
jsut 140 to go
just
Annie - it's Taurean persistence & stubbornness, that's all. LOL. I do sometimes leave grids unfinished if I'm tired or ill.
go arlene go!
I need two more then I will have 2/3 and will stop... I have a book I am trying to get through.
hello
any clues on the 9s?
Jac, your icon was my first word, so thanks...when the grid is this long I just use the tile stats, otherwise, I will throw the puter out the window
what a loooooooooong grid!
Stid - what book?
hi Enomis
rate
Hi Enomis. Wait until you start on the p's!
oops
what are the tile stats?
rates
he things under the grid?
oops again
hi enomin, jac, annie, stid, rosemary
And you'll do better putting your words in the Add Word box. LOL.
hi pida!!
"Sailing the Wine Dark Sea" by Thomas Cahill. It's interesting, but slow reading and he draws some conclusions that seem a little "concocted". Still, I want to finish it before passing final judgment
hi pida!
yikes! I offer to help and then loose everything I'm restarted and ready to clue for a bit
LOL - there are so many I thought I could spare a few!!!
Enomis, hello! :-)
Rosemary - Yes. You only get those for two weeks as a non-pro player though.
any clues for the 9s?
crikey
Stid - not read that one yet.
Hi pida.
I am frustrated in part by the poor editing. Grammar, spelling, simple things that just irk me.
Evening, all. Just jumped in a little bit ago.
chat going fast - just back from Googling Van the Man - some nice lyrics, can't hear the music <G>
an9/66 - an5/14 + an s/4 word.
hi gwenski
en6.21 pls
ooh wow
kindly note, stid G-oogling - lol
don't have the an 5/14...
and down to a mere 100 remaining. I am heading out to make dinner, read a chapter in this book and knit a while.
Hi gwenski
LOL Jill -- wondered if you'd see it, you were gone so long!
hi gwen
I'll probably be back later. *poof*
en+what you do to bread (diff spelling)
Found a solution for intrusive hubby -- I printed the grid and let him work on it on paper for a while. Maybe he'll leave me alone here for a while.
Enomis - an5/14 - right an***, tri***** etc.
bfn, stid - will missya - btw, thx for the wonderful kite day pix! What a great idea!
TY HiThere
re9=plural of re8 re8=re+ti4/4 (part of fork) + birds ne** minus the last letter

LOL, kristinc. Let's see if it worked.
pi 9/60 what they do at bowling alleys
pi 9/60 a teenagers job in an older bowling alley
annie, our minds are working in the same alley
gwenski - LOL, re the hubby.
'Bye Stid. See you again.

fyi: it helped, but not completely. :(
at6=are you planning on at****ing a football game helen?
Helen: will you at*** the ball tomorrow?
or at+te4/5
Van - click on the archives to see a previous day's puzzle. Then you can click and view the entire word list.

thanks gwenski
hi chj, hi helen
hichj!

hey pida
Isn't Faerie packed up in a pantechnicon right now?
hi chj...I spoke of you earlier when someone wanted 100+ clues from me :)
Hi chj & helen.
hi helen
100+ clues?? B. hell!
hi jac
kristinc - love your new bio!
helen did you make a list of all the breast sizes for me
Yes Jac, think the shows on the road for faerie
who needs some speed balling
sorry babbling
lol chj - is that for the independent research project you're undertaking?
that really was a freudian slip
what jill? must be someone besides me...I actually need to still change mine, just haven't brought myself to do it yet
I want to get to 100
freudian slip, chj?
yes helen im doing a treatise
yes jilli
speed balling made it funnier chj...and it was stid, who stepped out for a bit
actually it was more of just an unfortunate typo
chj - you behave now!
hahha nutty
chj - behave, you naughty man!
nutty 35c - if i remeber correctly
I did mean you, kristin - guess I just hadn't seen it before but you did say 'after much prompting,...etc'
dorry 34c
thanks for the clues

The NEs are driviing my slowly insane. Anyone have 6/24 and the two 7/36s?
my fingers arent cooperating

35C - didn't know that bra size existed.
there is no 35, it doesn't exist

as for metrics, shmeltz - lbs and oz and inches and feet and so on are still lingua franca in Canada. The only metrics which are in fairly common usage are temperatures, kilometres, and sometimes grams in supermarkets. Even the kids give their heioghts and weights in feet and pounds.

Incidentally, Jason is somewhat foreshortened in my icon.

lbd - LOL. Know what you mean. However, in the UK morn I know I can clue without thinking too much because it's normally UK folks, Aussies and UK ex-pats on line. Later, I need to temper my clues to US and Canada. Having played this game for quite a while now, I sometimes know how to direct clues to a particular person, having learned what they do and do not understand.
That's not to say I still don't get it all spectacularly wrong sometimes.
ugh - i am missing a word!
What word, Hel?
FIREWORDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

at least that's what my dictionary calls it
thanks jacula, I needed that one also
re 9 ..... start with a part of the eye but change the ending vowel and ad the abbreviation for Omaha's state and then plural
