INGREDIENTS * 2 1/3 cups melted shortening * 5 cups all-purpose flour * 1/2 ounce anise extract * 1 1/4 cups white sugar * 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 72 blanched almonds DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F(120 degrees C). 2. Combine the flour, sugar and cinnamon together. Add the melted shortening until all is mixed in well. Stir in the anise and knead for 5 minutes. Roll into 1 inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Place a blanched almond on top of each cookie and push down slightly. 3. Bake at 250 degrees F (120 degrees C) for 30 minutes. You do no want to brown the cookies. They should remain pale. Let cookies cool on cookie sheet for 30 minutes.

hehe... those were taken when a nazi party decided to hold a rally at our state capitol, and the counter protesters outnumbered the nazis about 8-1... I hjave never seen so many cops in one place!

if you ever get the chance, do it, CHJ... It's fantastic! with the admission into the EU, there is a lot more tourism than there used to be, but it's easy to get off the beaten track there, as well. Been there twice now... and not very expensive either. it's like a fairy tale, chj... the castle, towers, cathedrals, from hundreds of years ago, still being used today

smooth - okay - in my sophmore year of college, i made it to the regionals in the intercollegiate games tournament in pool - we were supposed to start playing friday night (after our long bus ride to madison - which btw is a town i totally loved) but the tourny coordinators screwed up & didn't have enough tables for both the guys & gals to play so they rescheduled us gals for sat am

so, now i'm just standing around, when this group of girls (from uw -sp) next to me says, well, let's all go out & have some drinks - i kept up with these girls, but all the next day, i kept calling time-outs so i could run & puke!!!
i was soooooo hung over - but i still made it 5th - what killed me was a long cross table shot i called, would have gone in if only i had seen the stupid six ball sitting right in front of the pocket!!!!!!
HA! sounds like a fun night!
but by that time it was 5 pm, i was totally puked out & dehydrated & the green 6 just melted into the green of the felt - i wanted to die!!!!!
