Back again - hows your daughter enjoying here time in NZ Andree?
in kaitai now with birth father and his family now, they all love having her there
21st she went for is tonight
Nice up there in kaitaia. Warmer than Auckland. A 21st in Kaitaia - that'll be a real hoot.
her 3 birth sisters are real hoots, lovely girls
There'll be a lot of singing and beer tonite --- You could probably fit the whole of Kaitaia in the town hall.
I am sure the whole town is invited, girls were born there so I guess they know everyone
juliette's birth mother has never married or had any other children
Gosh - that's interesting. Must be a whole lot of feeling behind that one - sorry, that's probably not the right thing to say.
so when she was in Auckland the kids feet didn't touch the ground
That's so nice. It must be a special time for everyone.
Gosh I am really stumped with this grid now. 17 to go, no list though. I'll give it 1/4 hour and then give up I think
I was shocked and saddened when I first found that out especially for the grandparents but Gail seems perfectly happy
2nd pe5/14 anyone please clue
I know what you mean Andree. Once guesses she has found other things to fill her life. Children aren't totally everything.
she doesn't seem to have maternal feelings strangly enough

race you angb!
nite fran and angb!
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
I am not sure that is true, Ka&Ba ;)
So, if someone is certain that he or she may identify a fool or fanatic, is he or she wise, or simply being foolish?
It takes one to know one
Bertrand Russell quote. Great response, sprite.
:)
You should be in politics, sprite .... you not only are an accomplished ambivalent, you can be deliberately obtuse!
LOL! The thing in life I understand least of, is politics!
Fireworks - was today's grid a little easier than others?

Good morning FMItch!
Hi HAz, how are you? (love that pic of Spangle).
morning all..
have 21 left but must get breakfast!!
I'm fine, thanks. This grid looks tricky - have you finished or still looking?
Hello rolin!
Finished a little while ago, smattering of French words but grid not too bad on the whole. Morning rolin
at last..!!..the pearl is there...uits been so close so mnay times lately
Alors! I must think franglais....
morning all from a damp London :)
but its so mild sherb
Good morning sherb.
ceet
poo
certainly is mild... I was sweltering yesterday in my winter clothes...
Morning sherb, got damp from all the overnight rain and windy but didn't get the gales they were forecasting.
morning Haz, FMitch, rolin and all :)
Have you been busy this week, sherb?
I've had some long days this week... looking forward to a good break at Christmas... have you started your preparations, Haz?
Absolutely not. I get later every year in direct opposition to the earliness of the shops starting to stock up.
any clues for the ap6?
Christmas puddings on Tesco shelves in September is just plain wrong! I enjoy Christmas, providing I can filter out the queuing etc.
I'm just taking a break from making my fruit mince.
You're well ahead of yourself, hillary!
if I think about it logically, I know it's possible to leave it to the last minute, but all the signs of Christmas trigger a mild panic in me...
ap6/27 = comes from the French for "to perceive", a hasty glance or glimpse.
Normally I'm scrambling around second week of December!
I love a French clue! ...thanks FMitch :)
I go the opposite way! I tend to think ' There's ages yet'.
Brilliant clue, tks.
It
Thanks for the ap FMitch.
yw :)
It's a bit odd starting before Advent but I'm determined not to get frantic this year.
We don't have a big family connection, no nieces or nephews, both sets of grandparents dead, so there's not so many to buy for. I do make a fuss on Christmas Day itself, but don't like all the frantic buying that goes on.
ok...over half way..am going off to have a girls day out with my daughter...i can see shop til we drop on the horizon..and perhaps...and very nice lunch..*s*
we're having a event at work (staff development, not a party) where we all have to wear a Christmas decoration, and there's prize for the best one... I'm looking for ideas...
HAve a fun day rolin
we like to make our staff development events interesting...
Bye rolin.
Oh, sherb, we love to organise other people's events......
When you say wear a Christmas decoration, is the whole costume to be a Christmas decoration or can you get away with a hat or something?
It's not the buying for me so much as the cooking ... can't abide commercially made fruit mince or xmas pudding or xmas cake, all of which have to sit and ripen for at least a couple of weeks. Then there's baking the mince pies and the kids want to do a gingerbread house this year. The kitchen is chaos for weeks.
*digs thinking cap out of drawer*
good morning everybody:)
it's a good excuse to pop to Paperchase and see what they've got this year...
Hi jean
If you all enjoy the traditional cakes and mince pies, then I can understand you wanting to make your own. We sin our souls here and don't even have Christmas pudding any more....... And not a sprout in sight.
I admire that hillary... I'm always full of good intentions, buy the ingredients... and then end up making a last minute dash to M&S...
morning jean :)
We are going out for lunch this christmas and I'm not having turkey, woohoo
Mornin' All...hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and post holiday events.
It's a labour of love ... trouble is, xmases seem to get closer and closer together. It feels like last xmas was about 3 months ago.
morning rolin:)
Anyone know the nu5?
Good morning Odin. We've had no holiday!
Hey sherb, Haz, FMitch, jean
morning Odin :) ...did you enjoy Thanksgiving?
I realize ... but it is the weekend for you...no work all play etc. Here in the states it is shopping chaos.
Thanksgiving was good...too much food, football, drinking...
hilary the nu5/26 is another strange one and uses the lhigh scoring tile, will give better clue when I can think of one.
And no hoops or snakes!
Heaven forbid I use any hoops or snakes - I promise Haz.
I thought it used the omega because of the high score but still can't work out what it is.
what's this about hoops and snakes? ...have I missed another interesting debate about clue-giving?
Sherb, some people use hoops, snakes, chairs, double humps to spell out words. Makes me foam at the mouth.....
bless them... they think they're in primary school...
nu5/26 - alt sp for "if I elbow you gently and wink at the same time". Look like is should be a Jewish sp
Fmtich, I've just noodled the nu. I join you in trying to think of a clue....
Got it thanks FM, perfect clue.
another pet hate of mine are the clues that go... third letter + first letter etc etc
Thank you, glad it worked!
We'll not do those when you're around, sherb!
still giggling at the thought of Haz foaming at the mouth...
And running the danger of husband injecting me with some antidote.
Fireworks... anyone want any clues before I resume peeling/grating?
Congrats hilary
Well done, hillary!
congratulations hillary:)
you've inspiredme to do some baking today, hillary... I fancy making ginger cake...
I fancy eating ginger cake :)
or Haz's Baileys coffee cheesecake, yum yum!
A clue for the 2nd pe5/14 please! Well done, Hillary.
I love the smell of anything gingery baking... truth is I started home-making all the xmas stuff as an antidote to the homesickness I was feeling as an expat here in Australia... xmas here is... well, it isn't, actually!
The calorie count on that one must be enormous! But it IS good.
Oh my goodness, hillary, I didn't realise that you were in Australia. I can understand the baking then!
hydra, 2nd pe5/14 is a key ingredient in a Thanksgiving dessert.
oh hillary, I thought you were in the UK...
I don't know anything about Thanksgiving, apart from Turkey!
Sorry hydra, it's a nut from the southern united states, its shell is a beautiful mahogany colour and it is delicious.
Oh, just got it! I was thinking it was a fruit. Many thaks, Hillary.
been here more than 20 years, half my life as of this year!! But home is where the kids are.
Have you been home in between times?
Yes many times! And have had family visit here which has been great fun. My parents arrive next week in fact.
Oh, that will be lovely for you. And I'm sure they'll appreciate some sunshine. It gets pretty grey here!
Truly. But from memory "green and pleasant" applies all year round... even in an English winter the fields look like they have neon green underlighting!
Any more clues before I go?
On you go, hillary, let the baking begin!
Yes please! I need an re5/14. I have the one to do with corn...
Currency in India
That's an ru word - or is there an re too?
re5/14 - to go over a point again, wearing headgear
sorry... misread your request. re5/14 is to revisit a subject.
I've got the headgear, Haz. I'll try the revisiting one. Thanks, you too.
time for me to head off the waitrose... later folks :)
It's the same one, hydra!
Oh. There's another, though.
Ah... it is to incise again.
re5/14 - to hang you washing up again
Oh no thats a 5/16
Sorry, Hillary, the corn one is an re4, so I misled you. I have the washing, I have the revisiting, but there's one more re5/14.
re plus to use scissors
Yes, it's to make another incision.
Brilliant! Thanks very much. Just 7 left to find now.
Good luck and good night!
Good night hillary.
Nite. Sleep well.
I'm still trying to get the nu5!!
Night Hilary and bye sherb.
The first three letters of nakedness, then the first and last letters of the next to last book in the Old Testament.
Thanks Haz - that was driving me nuts!!
You're welcome!
One left... Ooh, it's so exciting!
Got it. Fireworks! Now i can give clues if anyone needs one.
congratulations hydra:)
Congratulations hydra
Hi JFB. I've just come back from Cornwall. Saltash, then St Agnes. Thanks for the congrats, everyone.

Hi Babblers
evening relarion
Hi mr p.
don't have that yet mrp. Or don't remember.
eva it is nu5/26
thanks mrp! Have been around a fair amount of yiddish and never heard that one before!
UNO!!
I really don't like C words!! My brain just doesn't see them!
the c's really weren't that bad today mrp so let me know if you need help
Hi all

yay! it is a beauty of a word!
ok, finished!
yay mrp!
bye
WTG, mrp
done too!
yay eva!
was hoping it would bea juicy long one for today, but oh well.
tomorrow should be over 400 words.... we haven't had one of those for a while!
that's a bit juicier than I can handle
how about a nice, interesting 200 or so?
juice is juice!! bring on the beast puzzle! makes for an interesting chat log too!
I'm with MrP. A large grid for Sunday would be lovely!
was enjoying the quote puzzler games for a while, but don't like sites that bait and switch-get you involved with the promise of free games and then suddenly withdraw pretty much everything if you don't pay up, so I stopped playing.
any other suggestions?
they did that??
Eva - I joined that site but didn't get around to playing. When I did try, about a month after, the free stuff was no longer free. I didn't pay up.
is that your ferret jac?
that just sucks big balls!!
Eva - Refresh. The ferret's gone. It's Beatniks now. No, not my ferret.
To be fair, I think the site was still evolving, but there's not at all enough to it to be worth paying for.
eastoftheweb is a nice word games site. I'll find the address...
and I can't deal with sudoku at all....
thanks
bye...sleep
Here it is: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/games/
'Bye, relarion. Sleep well.
I have a photo of myself in peasant shirt and Fred bRaun sandals (for those of you who knew the village in its heydey), but I was hardly a real live beatnik
thanks jac, going to go look at it now
bye for a while
Eva - Don't forget to come back & put your Beatnik pic up. (There are so many games over there!)
thanks jac
y/w, MrP.

LOLOL, that's the truth, Atalante
last night it was great to sleep in my own bed after visiting
yep, she left me out of the blue, and simultaneously entered into a relationship with a friend of ours... but I don't want to belabor it here... I am some 9 weeks into the healing--I know it's a process and will take time
I love sleeping.
I am going to Matty, One of these days, I am going to, LOLOLOL
I have rarely been a great sleeper, but this is getting very "old"
Oh Im sorry Pam
good morning, all. Pam, I hope T Day went okay for you -- I was thinking about you and hoping it wouldn't be too awful.

I roasted a chicken with peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, thyme and olive oil - all in one pot - easy and very tasty. I've posted the recipe on Dooyoo if anyone wants it.
how many letters in that U word, Dora?
sorry!!!
(wish it wa a bigger grid for the weekend)
inge 2 the u was in the puzzle a few days ago- what you do to cothes you take off the line
the u is to remove the clips that hold your washing on the line
shhhhhhhhhhh inge
hmmm, I don't know, the clue made it seem like it was 4 letters but I am not positive. The clue was something like square *** in a round hole.... while that seems fairly obvious, it didn't work
ty seano!
well everyone - time to hit the mall - see you later!
first you p88 washing up on the line, then you un*** it when it;'s dry.

OK usually we learn to swear in foreign languages your friend must have been polite
nu 5,26 starts like naked + hi point letter + consonant-- strange word
heh... she was the daughter of missionaries in the brush, so more polite than most. lol
plus, it doesn't do me much good to only learn cuss words, ursh. When I travel, I need better words than those. ;)
Flask there is no nu 5,12
bubba, hi point letter?
Pappa, everyone should first learn "Where's the bathroom, please?"
the one worth 6 points
no worries grant. I have 6 out of 7 d's and 8 out of 9 c's. Does anyone have them all?
*thwacks self between the eyes with a fish*

I have the two about horses who are not trotters; I have one about a treaty; I have two about what the treaty is for, to be celebrated by a certain kind of pie that made me so happy I p*** my pants; but I'm a girl, so I didn't do it with a p****
Sweet! Discovery is showing the rise of man this afternoon. I love that series! :-D
ty bubba
Catty, copy this: http://licketysplitaus.googlepag es.com/babbleclues.html

Ankh, if you are a girl then you might use pe** shampoo, or think that you are pe**
AH, good one, Bubba thanks!

oh - good one Ank specially the end one - there are three about horses and one before the pie a pe4/5
P + type of fish in a can is t***

One to go! I got the fish one from Bubba and the horsie from Ursh.
So now I just need the one before pie.
how about the past tense of the treaty
gotta be more careful lol
dont think it is possible maj
ank - take a consonant right out from the middle of the sweet pie
maj, when you have to go, you have to go!!
Ah, Darci, thanks, that's it. Bubba, I had that one, thank you.
no bubba when you've gone you've gone
the programmer should check to see if people accidentally enter a word here and not send it
well what if you go, and then 5 minutes later you have to go again?
but think of the laughs we`d miss lol
yw, ank :)
LeslieAnn, your "beatchick" icon is great!
need help with the ce's
Haxor, that is an excellent idea.
But maybe you did go but don't remember, then you might use the re word

cool jean! my stories probably don't show up in the cook edition much, but if there's a story bylined leslie i think i'm the only one there
Okay, oddly enough, make it past tense, Catty
I used to read the ARlington version.
tr 6/21 add a vowel and something you use in the kitchen.
A dear friend reports for the S-T.
tr 6 is an instrucment for cutting hole in the skull--tr + vowel + rattle those pots and ***s

This chat is hardly ever sexless. heh heh heh
not too good on mexican food any more clues to te 5/12
Yes, MajMom, it was an hour for prayer... the third hour after sunrise.
I was thinking about it Ankh, I had a quick look last night but this is the first time I've played. I quite fancy having the wee saltire beside my name too.
well welcome to the madhouse cattyrina
You'd be so cute with your flag! Altho Ursh's flag is the snazziest of all.
Okay, MajMom, let's see. It's te***, but I would never fo*** you to pray then!
Catty, you pay once for life, not once a year.
te + delta fo***
ty ankhorite got it

you need a PA -
4 pa's, catty
do you have pa 4/6 - an agreement?

well done Catty!
How's it going, LeslieAnn?

I just took typing because I had nothing else to take and needed to take a course

nope, totally different
na's are not related
nope. you're probably missing n + a plot of land, shorty (na 5/12)
thanks, leslie
bubba, I took typing too. Long enough ago that I learned on a manual typewriter...when we switched to electrics the second year it was so easy!
ty Leslie
i have the fu 7, what is the other?
the other 7, i mean
ce4/6 please?
it is a ch7
I learned on both electric and manual. I wonder if they even teach typing any longer-- manybe just what they call keyboarding

Autumn...yes
Flask - did you get that CE
*will stay to clue for a few*
not yet
how about the z, ankh?
Natasha, you're looking lovely today. Your icon fits the beatnik theme of the day just naturally.
Flask - LeslieAnne clued at 3:35
Z is a four-letter two-syllable word for an age of prehistoric time. The name of the age.
thanks ankh, I don't actually change it so it is nice to fit into the theme once in a while, lol.
aha got it
Yeah, I thought not! When I first came here, I thought the themes were silly and I was a plain hamster every day, but now I'm into it. :)
A sad Thanksgiving story: my mother-out-law beat me at Scrabble! Wah!!! It ain't right!
I do think about changing it sometimes, but I have a very old computer and little storage space so I don't really do it.
Natasha, that icon is just... well... iconic! It's lovely. I was crazy about her when I was little.
sorry about that ankh. i hope you didn't cry like that when it happened, though
Oh, no ankh! I'm sure it was a fluke. Love the mother-out-law term, by the way.
Thanks guys, for all your congrats and help. Sorry for delayed response I was away getting my Saltire ( I hope) and my beatnik beret. You like?
Oh, Leslie, I did! Heh heh... I had won the first two, and "Mom" was determined to break my streak. Some good words we had: Dad got "dangled" and Dear One got "hygiene" on a triple word score. Thanks -- don't know what else to call her. Wonderful woman.
fabulous catty
nice catty! congrats on the pro status :)
Catty, you look GREAT! And now you and Flask match!!! Welcome to the tribe!
Happy to be here. x
Okay, to show you around: see Lickety's clues link on the bottom right?
(bottom left)
You can open that in a new window. But don't bother filling it in until you know you are stuck on a particular letter.
yup.
Oh, woops, right, Leslie. I mean my OTHER right, the left one. coughCOUGHcogh
lol
Okay, now, at Lickety's site, on the real right... not the right I got wrong before... there are some paragraphs and whatnot.
One of those will say, "icon themes" fourth link down.
You can dress up for the themes or not, whatever you like.
Oh, your profile: if you have a cat or dog or something, you may as well add the name/color/breed or people (okay, me) will pester you forever asking what, what kind, what color, etc.
hey ankh? i'm missing one of the middle e's. have ep 4/5...
lol! Cool, will do.
Another easy way to get the theme is to go to the tab that says "Who's Online" and add Babbler as a friend. Then you can go right to it by clicking friends in the future.
Leslie- It's like that treaty we were talking about before but online
I can't find the last pe 4/5 for the life of me...
aha got it
LeslieAnn, it's weird. You might have a wisdom tooth that is im****ed; this is kind of like that.
pe*** piper, natasha?
natasha, hard to believe, when your character is so bright and pe**!
Ooh, good clue, Catty.
oh man, throw me a fish!
Oh, would you rather be Catty or Rina? Or the whole thing all the time? Whatever, just say so in your profile.
*heaves a saucy fish at the Russian girlchik*
don't make it saucy, she'll drop it!
But saucy fits with the clue! :)
I'm saucy enough all on my own...
oh, i guess it's ok then.
Indeed! That's why I wanted to be the Natasha character when I was little. She was so exotic and obviously so powerful (cuz of her looks, I'm afraid) and brave and smart and so BAAAAD!
Either's fine Ankh, the reason I chose the username is cos it's made up of two of my nicknames.
you choose!
Okeydokey. :)
exactly, although what she was doing with that stupid boris I'll never know
I couldn't resist the little flag, either, that's how I got sucked in. I didn't realize I'd enjoy the icon-making so much. Oh, Natasha, just leading Boris around on a leash!
missing one g? have ge 4/7
I think she and Nell from Dudley Doright would have been a good match
The so-smart voooman behind the dopey man! As a child in the 60's, that meant a lot to me. My kindergarten teacher told me I couldn't be an astronaut cuz I was (still am, all) a GIRL.
change the consonant at the end leslie
true, ankh! still, I think she'd be better off with another saucy gal...I may be projecting though!
hey metal
Leslie, they're almost the same. Change final consonant
metal--that's hilarious. never thought of that combination, it's a good one
hey all
Natasha, I'm pretty darn sure they weren't going to encode THAT message in the cartoon, LOL!!! But maybe she wears that purple for a purpose, eh?
oh ge**
*agrees with Metal*
*tosses Leslie a shrimp*
I think it'd be a good match.. one ultra femme, one domme
that's what I choose to think, anhk!
well done Leslie. lol
both smart, but using it differently
So many of my buddies got so excited when Janet Reno wore purple to her first major press conference... :)
i'm trying listless, that's my excuse for the fishiness, brain's kinda mushy
heh...I've always thought of her as more asexual. Is she a lesbian?
Yeah, Metal, they'd be perfect complements to one another.
remember janet reno's dance party on snl? i loved that skit
No, Nat, Reno isn't, but if wishing would make it so, that woman would be leading parades in San Francisco every Sunday.
LOL!
time for me to buckle down and finish these last ten so I can converse without the niggling pull of the grid
I mean, yes, she's kind of off the dating market and no, she's not lesbian.
what's today's theme by the way?
beatniks
But a LOVELY person, and if she (Beatniks, metal) were lesbian, there'd be a line around the block to go out with her.
cool, thanks
I thought she always got a bad rap, that's for sure.
Yes, she did get a bad rap. She's a helluva person, I am a dedicated fan.
missing two f's from the fourth row - have fe 4/7 (and the heaters)
have you actually met her ankh? or know others who have?
brb, getting "dressed" for the day
She really had leadership qualities: the buck stopped with her, and she wasn't pompous at all. Whatever army she's leading, you wanna march in it. Yes, I've met her a couple of times, and had the great honor of preparing a briefing book for her to play a moot court (Supreme Court) about the first woman who wanted a law license in Illinois.
the fe5 and 6 use the 6 letter tile leslie
it's so easy with the clues, natasha! thanks
Leslie, if you were really cold... except without the second consonant.
yw
3 left... i can see the light at the end of the tunnel :)
It is always interesting to hear from people who've actually interacted with politicians--you just don't get the real story from the media
go LA go LA go LA go LA
that's for dang sure ;)
Well, and some of them are fakey in private, too, but she's not. And every time I met her was for a charity to train women lawyers here and in Africa.
Not just "women" lawyers, but lawyers specializing in women (and there have been two men in the program in the past 15 years)
am back now
go LA
sounds like you are involved in some great causes yourself, ankh
Scroll back, Metal, while we admire your icon!
will do
sorry, so stuck right now... missing an r from the top row... have 2 ru 4/6s
haha cute icon, metal
Oh, METAL! It's AWFUL! Perfect! perfectly awful!!! Thank you, Nat. :)
ru5/14 money in India
Am back too. Was adding friends... (If that isn't too presumptious!) I don't think you missed much though-I don't think any stories of an interaction with any of my politicians would mean anything to you guys!!

(hello, I've been lurking)
Clean Out Soup is putting together all the bits and pieces of stuff in the refrigerator and making soup ... so the stuff doesn't get wasted
ty :)
tonight's version includes about a half cup of beans from two nights ago, some hamburger meat that was thawed and not completely used up yesterday, a bit of crushed tomatoes and whatever spices "felt right" to toss in when everything was being put in the pot
hi harpjane
hi metal
hi harpjane
hi bilt
sounds like a good plan metal! i think i have yogurt in the fridge
ooh, that would make a great garnish for your soup
I wouldn't put it in while cooking though... it'd "break"
no no no, that goes IN the soup right?
it could go in the soup, but lots of times when you put sour cream or yogurt, etc. in soups while cooking... they separate into the liquid part and little bits of milk solids
it doesn't harm the taste, but it looks weird
Hello everyone ... just popping in to see what's happening
then serve the soup to diners with blinders on
hiya Angb
good idea K&B

By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!

Hi Minver, well thanks. How are you>
Does anyone have a clue for the pe 5/12 word please
hey Minver
we are still hoping for her return fran....nut and me may go on a ninja militant turkey hunt
I could of course mark while chatting ... goes to get said assignments
you could angb you really could
min, it's a man's name also
Angb - as my kids would say, "what's a clothesline" - wonder if your clue only works on your side of the pond - nonetheless, i got it - all's swell that ends swell!
pe 5/12 is a boys name - to fade away
I went away for Thanksgiving and I was Babbless for two days.It was so nice to come back to a small grid.
yayaya min!!! welcome home!!!
melon, i wasn't familiar with those words either.
although i do have a clothesline.
Thank you for the pe clue.I thought about that word but thought it would not work because it was a name
melon - do you all use clothdryers?
most people these days have driers angb, not me though, still hang our laundry, saves money on power.
my mom had a line, it seems that it was universal in my childhood - now i hardly ever see one - affluence? - i use the laundromat. my landlord hangs the laundry in the basement - they are very, very frugal.
Hmmm - everyone here say that driers grey your clothes - sunlight whitens them ... could be rubbish of course
sunlight makes them smell good - that's for sure.
I actually don't have a clothesline. Partner wanted to put in a drive up the back for his new shed. Line was in the way --- is still sitting on its side in the back paddock. I hang the clothes on a clotheshorse inside
sunlight does make certain things brighter, but it also fades things quickly. i hang darker things inside my washroom.
mine get fried in the heat at the moment...... I don't like stiff towels so I tumble dry them
Does anyone have a clue for the re 5/12 word please
evening all!

Does anyone have a clue for the re 5/16 word please
melon that does not sound like mediocrity to me
Put your clothes back on the washing line
that was for re 5/16
Angb - it's my own Babble goal - halfway plus all 7s & 8s - that second half just takes too much time. Somehow, I came to designate it mediocrity - which does mean middling after all.
I saw that clue before and did not get the word from that clue. Might I please have a different clue Angb?
Never mind Angb.I just got the re 5/16 word. Thanks
Minver, think of a dowel on which you hang something....
cheers melon - some things don't cross country borders sometimes

I have a question...I entered the 77th word, which I know is a legitimate word, and it says "You've already entered "pe****." However, it will not show up on my word list which means I can't finish the puzzle. Any ideas why this might be happening?

*cross doesn;t work my little pretty!
nu5 anyone?
*gaaaaah- runs screaming* - hangon, gotta check on my high cat making noise in the basement.
hanging.......................on...... ...
i can't believe the nu5! i've said it many times - never spelled it!
nu is very odd. it means nudge,
hi cat? catnip?
nut catnipped her cat
There is only one vowel in the nu and the big tile is the second to last letter
i think the nu5 is a yiddishism that means a pesterer, usually spelled just like to elbow someone.
thanks, got it
one can get it using math.
that big tile's showed up quite a bit in this grid
2nd pe5/14?
Better than the last grid when the qu wasnt' used at all - I couldn't get past it
that was weird
A boys name - and to run out

Does anyone have a clue for the pe 5/14 word please
Actually, I need the first pe 5/14 word if you have it.
any clues for the tr6?
Hi Min! I'm doing fine. how are you tonight?
feux d'artifice!
1st pe - comes after war
which one min? i have the 2nd pe 5/14 = pe*** pie
...might have misspelled that...
2nd pe boy's name - and runs out
there are two Min. Let there be pe*** on earth, and let there be lots of pe*** pie
dam did it again the 2nd one is a 12.
will stick around for a few mins to give hints
tr 6/21n is tr plus vowel plus pots & ***s shmoozanne.
thanks angb - i didn;t have the 1st pe 5 or 6
yayayayya melon!!!!!
the last e is making my eyes go >_<
whoo hoo Melon!
The tr is something you open the skull with for surgery isn't it. Gruesome!
imath, it's a slender sword like weapon
e + agreement imath.
Thank you for the pe clues.Finished my pe words now
i have THAT one
but not the other
I am doing well lbdawger.I had a good holiday and you
hi guys
the other is ep+ what one does on stage, dancing and or ***ing
na5?
yo, smoothpapa
na sounds like knacker - but is mother of pearl
Hi Smooth. Min, holidays have been relatively quiet. ate too much, and now i'm trying to clean out junk.
hey all, i didn't get to do yesterday's, how many was it?
knacker?
something like 98 hurshy
Sounds like shmooz!!!
Hi Hursh, it wasn't too bad another rather short one with enough stupidhead words to make you scream
OKay n + ac 4/5
well, i'm on the dreaded 14 on today's
the last 14 for me were brain burners
ooh, 13, yay!
go Hursh go!
go hurshy
is the U a UN?
yes!
yes - to do with laundry
sorry angb, pulled a peri on you there
C's are the worst, as usual, eh?
they aren't too bad Hursh
I found the c's OK this time ... which is unusual. A couple of babblets though
well, i need 3 of them. i have 2 ce's, and i have the 7
there are 3 ca's all off the same word
If you have the seven you also have the ch 5
yes, i have 3 ca's, and they are all related
and i have 3 ch's in toto, and 2 cr and 2 cu
there are 2 other ch 4's
4 crs a 5, 6, 4, 5
You have all the cus
ok so i need the first 2 cr's and a ch (i have 5, 7, 4)
got the cr's!
Think of bandages or christmas decoration paper
Ge** you are quick hurshy
sorry
this is why i don't use the list until the end, makes it go too fast.
That was a compliment hurshy not a complaint!
well i figured but you can't be too careful
Hi smooth_pappa! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
If I could draw a smile I would!
Hello hurshy! How are ou doing? Welcome to the grid!

hi min, i'm fine, how are you
Hello relarion! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
ap 6 a mimic + pool **e ball
Good, Min! You?
I am doing well hurshy!I had a great holiday and you?
ap6.27 is ap4.5+ the white ball in pool
tr - something you use in brain surgery - ends with sauce***
had a nice holiday as well.
I am doing well relarion. How was your Thanksgiving?
tr + 2nd vowel + pots and ***s
i need two of the lower f's, i have what you walk with...
I wonder is you have sauce***s in the US? Or is that another cultural word
Does anyone have a clue for the cr 5/14 word please
we do have them angb
Get an iceblock but drop the r.
Quiet, nice, Min...yours? Still not getting that ap, must be putting in extra letter?
hursh, small charge for a service + **lestial seasonings
cr 5/14 - think bandages or christmas decoration paper
relarion, if you're using my clue, drop the last vowel on the white ball
as niles crane said about seasoning one's pans, "saucepans in summer, cr5/14pans in fall, when winter's upon us, there's food for us all"
Thx lb, fireworks!!
lbdawger, it will not accept this word.
relarion - congrats
Congratulations relarion on fireworks!Good for you!!
hurshy it is a french word - a mimic plus **e ball
hursh, fe+ 2nd vowel + Zoo Expert
no, the clue before that, for F
Thanks you guys!
Hurshy, ap 6/27 word is ap 4/5 + first two letters of the white ball in pool.
i'm getting confused with the cluing sorry.
whoo hooo relarion
So am I ... must find my stapler and calm down!

Actually, I need the second te 5/12 word if you have.

I am marking assignments - pretending. Need stapler to put mark sheet on. I calm myself by reading a paragraph or two. Don't commit me yet please!
that do be the one
indian residence is one
te 5. 12 kind of hut or tent
TE + Consonant + a** of spades
is there just one N5?
Short and succinct but change the s to a c
Oh...brief, spelled with diff. consonant in the middle
third hour is the second one
yes, hurshy, just one n5
There are 2 n5's
err... whoops... thanks ang... I must be going blind. ;)
lol, conflicting info
There is a na and a nu
Does anyone have a clue for the un 5/18 word please
last 3 letters are girl's name, min
UN + ***asus was the flying horse
it's the nu i don't have.
un+nickname for margaret...or put a round *** in a square hole

well done!
Congratulations hurshy on your fireworks!Good for U
6- crier
well maj, if you have un, you should get re
stupidhead word...looks yiddish (cuz it is.) means to annoy with persistent complaints, criticisms or pleas. nag.
WE 6 is based off of the 4 just before it
re - is the re of the un 5/18
RE 5 ends like UN 5
Whoo hoo Hursh!
yes, i figured that was that word lbdawger, only i had never envisioned it spelt that way when i heard it spoken aloud
re 5/16 is re + the movie ***gy Sue Got Married with Kathleen Turner majmom.
Yes, who knew?! I've heard it many a time, hurshy.
hello everyone
well, dictionary.com has it spelt all sorts of different ways!

My Aunt lived in Spokane before moving to Seattle.

In august, my lease is up, and I'm considering leaving madiosn
yes it is a nice little city
and no matter all you read, othing works like 1st hand info. :)
oh Smooth_Pappa, Madison is a beautiful city
nu5........nu + consonant + last letter in alphabet + silent consonant
I know... but it is getting so expensive.
Spokane is nice.......pretty, and lots to do
I mean, compared to the wages here. There are so man very educated people, that it is nearly impossible to use a degree here, other than comp. sci, or medical
it's expensive everywhere, pappa
I second that, kalea
my last job, kalea, I worked a cash register right next to a woman who had a masters degree in one of the natural sciences. the job before that I answered phones with a skilled electrician of 20 years

later pam
I like cold... I think it's colder here, though... but more snow there
I don't know about opportunities there, either... which is why I'm looking all over... and that's even if I decide to leave again

it's the pacific northwest. check out the spokesman ( i think that's the newspaper there.).
I've also heard reall good things about Boise, too... but that's even smaller
ap 6/27 last word, please
My cousin who lives in Seattle, works the fishing boats in Alaska (the co. is in Seattle). She makes enough in 6-7 months that she doesn't work the rest of the time. If something like that interest you.
It is awful how you get pushed allof your life to get educated and when you do you and up over educated and still can't get a rewarding job!
carlir: it's the same as the AP 4/5 just before it + internet speak for "see you"
thanks mom!
ty kela...I couldn't have figured that one out...I know because I spent way too loong looking for it...Thanks for the help!
glad to help. Anytime you are interested I can get the particulars from her
no doubt, hodag! In madison, we have something like 45% of the adults hold a bachelor's, and nearly a quarter of the adult population hold masters or higher

aha! thanks lori, that was the one i was missing. turns out they both sound like an exclamation :)
also missing a t. i have the golf one, the indian tent, the one that sounds like a word for snippy, and the one that is about drilling into your skull (!!)
Was that an illegal clue, the way I wporded it?
I thought it was a fine clue LoriP
darci, te + another word for father

dang, it's not.........and here i thought i'd get to use the handcuffs
Nah, I don't think so LoriP
ok, down to an A word and two R words
ap6?
LOL LoriP, you'll just have to go in the penalty box and eat sweets if you type out a word
i have that one, i think. it's a weird word
ok...........there are 4 ac's
Sorry, just trying to practice, and my originality needs work. Sweets? I'll be very naughty then!

my grandson scooted on his butt, never crawled and then decided that was too slow. although he was quite fast at the butt scootching. lol

I need 24 more words... but multitasking so it'll take me a while.
Well, I got fireworks with the nu 5/26 word, got it monkeytyping, can't even think of a way to clue it
and now it's past my bedtime, so I'll say good night all, See ya tomorrow, I hope.......
pida -- sleep well -- it was my last word too
my best clue for it would be variant spelling of a pushy person
thanks, greywoulf, I'd have to spell it out. nu+4th consonant+last letter of alphabet+8th letter of alphabet. *Poof*
good night pida!
YAY pida!
that was a tough word, all right! (glad I have help on this tonight!)

Twenty to go... (about time for a list, I think!)
hi can anybody clue the ap 6/27? it's our last one...
spanky - they usually are ;-D
*waiting with dan for the clue...*
ap6 -- ap4 + cons + vowel
ap 6: ap 4/5 + third letter + fifth vowel
one who mimics + the chem symbol for copper will give you ap6.27

heya all, just stopped in to show my parents the game (home for turkey day)... we may be seeing them, heh
oh -- did you move? that's always such a chore.
we just did the NYTimes crossword puzzle and actually finished!
only still awake because I "worked" an all Mozart concert with the DSO, Jerzy Semkow conducting
wow Ornith! good for you!
hope your folks like us, Ornith *offers tea and cookies to Mom and Dad*
no, stid... just moving south for the winter, like a "snowbird".. Ornith, you may be exposing your parents to an addictive pleasure..
hehehe
how cool, inge! I can't wait to hear all about it.
TEN words to go!
I didn't realize quite how nasty the NYTimes Sunday puzzles are! deleted-letter gimmicks are HARD!
This is my final word: Gute Nacht
Hi there everyone - just checking how long till the next grid - SAD!!!
that's not so bad, then Aloyisius -- still a bit of disruption, but not nearly so much.
Stid did feather find you?
hi Angb! no, our power was out most of the day and I only got back online about an hour ago. :-(
She has been popping in and out all day wondering where you were - some race or other
yes, we had agreed to race today, but ... *sigh* hoping I can catch up with her tomorrow.
anyway, going to sign off so I don't annoy my sleeping mom with my typing... see you soon, and hopefully my parents will too, hehe
Thought I would just pass it on - and help get your last 10 if you need the help
later Ornith, see you when you get back!
night ornith!
How about a clue for fe 6/45??
past tense of the fe 5
thanks Angb -- I need four more, three RE and the Z
don't worry stid, we played scrabble too and she beat me twice. So she didn't go to sleep tooo disappointed.
The infamous z - a good scabble word that
go stid!!
ROFL Fran, thanks for taking up the slack...
Hi fran ... how goes it ...
Thanks Angb - I found it...didn't even know that was a word!!!
*anxiously waiting for moreinfo on the Z*
fe645 is past tense of word above it.
going great ang!
Me either ... but played a game last nite ... deliberately mispelling words. Did me a treat
You wanted clues stid - thought you were going cold turkey.
we were playing some of the QP games at the same time last night. it was weird, i would check the scores before i went in and your score wasn't there, then i'd finish and there you were!
cold turkey? not me! *reaches for more chocolate*
Fran is really good at cluing that one.
Hello everyone!
hi l3xi
zo + picn** meaning outdoor lunch.
Yes we got fireworks about the same time ... I had the same impression.

was just fooling around with the stats on it, and say one from your state, figured it was you
feather, i think you missed her!
looks like it
Chris says "Thank you for saying hi. I did nothing today because mum wouldn't take me out anywhere"
she said she'd be back
she had no power today
ahh, that stinks!
awww, poor chris!
oh, fran, i just posted an interesting link in the blog
cool, i'll check later.
{{{FEATHER}}}}
I am so sorry... I was trying to find your email so I could write to you.
heh, i have my ways of knowing things about my blog!
I saw that link, feather, looks good! Going to try it as soon as I can.
i'll post my email in my profile in a sec, for the future
My last one is stumping both my husband and I - pe 5/12. Help?
thanks feather
ok, it's there, tell me when you've got it
Boy's name and to run out
hello all
pe 5/12 is the name of the first apostle? Simon Pe***
Hi Jill!
hi jilli!
brb, daniel's calling from bed
cool building jilli, i.m. pei is in the crossword puzzles a lot
Hey all. Dropped in to see if anyone needed some last minute clues.

Yippee! After months of trying, this is only my 2nd fireworks (thanks to my husband). Thanks Stid and Angb!!!

Yep. Looked like there was plenty of help already. Just thought I'd say hello. See you at the flip.
ooh, okay, just saw it.

later mkl
yay spanky!!!!!
stid, wanna try again tomorrow?
feather, 100% first try...
yes feather, what time shall we meet?
you're a stinker too! lol
umm....depends on the size of the grid! if it's a huge one, i'll whittle it down a bit here and there
YAY Spanky! (was off taking the grammar quiz)
you still have my aim right? i'm always online during the day
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15895965/
okay, how about I stop by at 3 pm your time (that's noon my time)? If lose power, I can still run over to Mother's and email you from my yahoo account.
a very sad story
I have your AIM, but my IM client thingy is buggy. :-(
If the grid is smaller than 150 I'll wait until then to start, if it's bigger, I'll see how far I get.
hee, hopefully i'll be awake! yes, i was just typing something about the grid size
stid -- do you have snow? I do -- about 4" of heavy wet stuff
ok, i'm heading off to bed....stayed up wayy too late
no, much to stidgrant's disappointment. It was predicted, but never materialized
okay, feather, see you tomorrow! :-)
night!
off to look at fran's url...
night feather!
Fran, that is really awful! what a sad thing.
isn't it?
oh dear! How horrible!
i guess the bookcase was so heavy she couldn't scream for someone either.
well, if she was not able to breathe, she certainly couldn't call for help. Poor thing.
anyone need clues?
brb, my charming son is screaming for ice cream
does stidgrant like skiing or what?
Where is everybody???
okay, back
sorry, got distracted. yes, they like skiing, but we don't have our own skiis. Hope to take them up to White Pass soon thought.
hi jilli -- I am trying to play lit while lurking and chatting, but the tile gods are being vengeful tonite
or though. *sigh* I do okay on grammar quizzes, but this time of night my overall concentration is poor!
just wondered why he was disappointed when you didn't get snow.
hi woulf! Need any clues?
Jill -- do you have enough of what you need so you don't have to drive for a while?
oh -- he's hoping it'll be too snowy for school on Monday. I told him even if school is cancelled, he's going! LOL
nope -- I finished earlier
Yes, stid, stocked up this evenign and had a very scary drive home in the dark with snow flying at me and slippery roads
oh Jill! *gasp of horror* so glad you got home okay!
And I'm staying put as long as necessary!
Do you have a woodstove or something so you stay warm if the power goes out?
I have a gas fireplace and a gas bbq with a burner I can cook on
Our generator allows us to keep the house livable (no wood or oilstove).
jilli, glad you got home okay!
okay, then you'll be okay. *nods with satisfaction*
We had a generator back east because if we lost power the pump for our well went out and we had no water
i'm so glad we don't have to worry about heat here.
yes, the other reason we have the generator! :-)
fran -- you don't have to worry about snow either!
that's true, Fran! though if it dips below 65 I suspect you start piling on the blankets...
well it snows in some parts of the state, but not in Oahu
and it rarely gets into the low 60s where we are, but there have been times that we had to "bundle up" a little more at night.
Really fran??? On mountainous ground, I suppose
of course i grew up in an even more tropical climate so when it gets below 70 i'm chilly
We put our tree together today -- my allergies really don't allow us to have a real tree, so last year we bought a skinny 7.5 foot one on sale. It fits our home beautifully. AND it came pre-strung with lights... Way better than the tabletop one I had from college. Tomorrow we decorate!
Me too, fran
yes jilli, mauna kea has snow
people actually ski there
how nice stid!
Wow. skiing in hawaii -- who knew? is it good skiing, fran?
I never really acclimated to the mainland after Puerto Rico, 30 + years ago... but I do okay as long as I have warm socks and a sweater.
i have no idea stid, i think it's kind of rough, not much snow and the ground is rocky.
We never used to decorate for Christmas until Christmas Eve -- times change
http://www.bestplaceshawaii.com/tips/b ig_kahuna/ski.html
Our family celebrates St. Nicholas Day and the Yule, not Christmas. Our parents celebrate christmas, though.
there's a link that talks about the skiing on the big island.
Okay Fran, I'll check it out. Would be fun for the kids if we ever get that far...
When is St Nicholas Day? When is Yule (thought it was Xmas)? Why not Christmas itself?
St. Nicholas Day is Dec 6. It's the actual Saint's day.
My skiing days are over
Not Christmas for SO many reasons, Jill! LOL If you really want to know, I'll put it in an email.
Yule is the solstice.
OK stid! I really want to knw.
okay Jill -- you'll have it tomorrow morning (if both our power stays on)
Dec. 6th is Sinterklaas day, it's one of our themes coming up.
Sinterklaas is Dutch for Saint Nicholas...
Sinterklaas, St. Nicolas, Santa Claus
yup, figured that stid
Hmmm - sounds interesting. What's the Scandinavian day with the crown of candles?
and Yule is the actually solstice
That's Santa Lucia, on the 10th I think
St Lucia, I think
oops -- actual
something to do with sta. lucia
So many Days!!!
many are holdovers from pagan festivals adapted to fit christian holidays
wow. Tom is loading "DeLovely" the movie about Cole Porter to watch... I might completely get drawn in. So if I disappear... LOL you'll know where I am! [BIG fan of Cole Porter -- and Kevin Kline]
Once upon a time a group of us went to a wedding in Toronto and stayed at a motel run by Scandinavians. We were wakened at about 6 am after a night of festivities by ladies with those candle crowns.
not neccessarily the ones around Christmas though
hee, we've been forewarned stid!
how funny jilli! did you think you were dreaming?
DeLovely sounds delightful -- I love Cole Porter too but never saw that movie
I'll let you know how it is, Jill.
I'm afraid none of us was very appreciative!
i just googled crown of candles, they make "st. lucia day crown-safe candles"
