Hi Fran, only just logged in
Hi ExWren!
hello ExWren & FM - in fact everyone! I had the chat hidden for a while.
I'm glad it is a small grid today, I need time to finish off my Christmas cards - I have far too many friends and relations - it takes forever
Evening lynxxx I am finding it very hard to get words out of todays grid
*stares guiltily at a pile of Christmas cards* ...I need to get dressed... later all :)
later sherb!
I agree - though there is nothing too strange in it they seem well hidden
I should tell you how I woke up this morning - to very pathetic cat miaows coming from the rafters of our room (our bedroom is in our oast turret, its the equivalent of 2 storeys high, with rafters running across about half way up) We had to get our big ladder out from the garage to get her down ...
Hi everyone. My phantom today is defiant
funny ata, although it must not have been at the time
Oh poor and silly pusskin Ata
hi biltong!
aww, Atalante, and what have you done with her?
Hi Biltong
one *very* unhappy little cat! she soon cheered up again though, and will probably do exactly the same thing tomorrow night now she's worked out how to get there!
Looks like a mean little grid!
how long till she works out how to get back down?
I dont know how long she'd been up there, but we had to get her down!
oh, I see, it is your cat? I thought you just "found" her there, for some reason, lol
would anyone like any help before I go?
are you done lynxxx?
lynxx, could you please tell me what the 8 letter word begins with, please?
a little while ago - although I used lickety for the last few

There is only one ro6, Flask. Do you have a clue for the ad 6?
ad 6 = ad + putting together
drop last letter from ad6/36
ok...can anyone clue the 2nd ri6 please?
Flask... think rat, but change the first vowel to a different one
its the other one I need Metal....sorry!
Morning folks! Another short grid I see - how is it?
so, you dont need the rat, or the one that's spelled almost like the rat?
those are the only two ri's I have
Morning Matty....short but NOT sweet!
hello matty - bit slow going I find
YAY Fireworks
it's not too bad matty, but does have a few unexpected twists
yayyy seano
What's the theme?
wtg seano1
artic wildlife
Arctic Animals I believe
WTG Seano
Anyone need cluing before i go?
the an 8 pls seano
Sorry Metal....am confused!
Flask, I didn't understand your clue for the ad 7.
Seano.....the 2 x in6's please?
sorry, I am short on caffeine
my clues were for two different words
an4/4+no4/5 if you have them...
well if you have ad6...add a cons!
if you were on a horse when it was moving, you rode the horse, the horse was ri* * * *
ty seano! got it!
Thanx
in +fork prong
is that ri the one you needed?
thanx Metal
Seano the other in6 please?
in 6/18 in + sound
yvw, sorry for the previous confusion
fork prong??
its ok...my fault!
google 'fork prong' conxshun!!!
have you got them flask?
ar6 please?
Was the ri 6,21 clued?
yes thanx
I need the ri 6,21 and the non-fork in 6,18 clued plez.
ri6/21 = rat spelt with different vowel
ty seano!
Seano...ar6 please?
That's not the ro 6?
noooooooooo
Hmmm. thinking here.
the ri has all the same letters except for the O, that letter's different
ar+jo5/20....minus the 'j'!
in6/18 in + do, re, mi, fa are all to4/4's in the octave
thanx..Seano
ah, it's built off the ri4. Thanks
I obviously need my coffee yet.
:o)
right time for a walk out to get sunday lunch....later babblers

ty
lol metal!
Right, got it, TY
what about the 8. Have i missed some clues
ni5/12 please?
OK, changed my icon.
Sorry Metal....not got it yet
metal, ni5/12 is an ordinal number
ni 5 is another form of ni 4/4
oh jeez, I can't believe I missed THAT. thank you Ornith
pass the fish please
I read an8 clue before and thought I'd find it, but I can't get from the fourth letter to the fifth and sixth. What am I doing wrong?
an8 "against" + no4/5
merk, the first half of an8 has to come from the left side, downwards
the first 'word' of the an i appears twice in the grid
three places, actually, con
oh, yes! - just to make it easy!
dos
I am not seeing how to get from the final letter of the an 4 to the first two letters of the no.
Thanks, Con
merk, first half goes left-to-right, second half goes right-to-left right under it
That's what happens when I skip my morning coffee.
fireworks for me
i have de7 what r the others?
ad-7
de7 ad7, don't have the third
and 2 de-7
yay sha
Were the de 6 and 7 clues given while I had my nose buried in the an 8?
one of them, merk. de6 tooth enamel, de 7 add a vowel, sounds like a brand of chewing gum
Hi all,HOhohoooo sneeze,cough,blow.......ooooooh!

I know what you feel like ornith!
night all (or morning), feel better hodag
bye ornith
thankyou
'night Ornith
Someone please help my monkeys with the ar5/12 - they're getting very frustrated...
ar5 is a + R2D2 kind of robot minus first letter
Well of course - a word I use every day (grumble, grumble). Thanks ConX
hack,hack,sneez......sorry amanda nothing worse then a frustrated monkey!!
yw amanda, it's the common words we usually miss! ;)
have you drunk your lemon yet hodag?
no con. tell me about it.
good morning everybody:)
ty amanda and Con
good morning jean
hi jean
*passes another hot lemon drink with honey* It has a whole freshly squeezed lemon with hot water with honey for the throat and to take some of the sourness away
I've seen the clues for the ad7 - they tell me to add a consonent to the ad6. It would help, of course, if I had the six...
love the icon hodag are you getting into the festive spirit
hello hean
a pinch of cayenne is good too, but just a wee pinch
jean, i mean not hean (o mean!) (sorry)
ad6/36 ad + you become a member of a club if you * * * * it
lol
matty, does it help to say that they're both worth alot of points?
OK, that's the six - thanks Metal!
And Amanda...
yvw... the 7 is ad + a doobie or roach
what's the cayenne for metal?
Merci Metal!
Love the clue, metal - shows something about me, I guess, that I got it straight away with it!
LOL
it helps open the sinuses, and promotes release of mucus/promotes mucus drainage
nice addition! I'll remember that, ty metal!
some folks can't tolerate the cayenne though, so put just a tiny bit
I'll bear it in mind.... (I hope!)
well, one thing's for sure... if you don't remember the first time you add it, you certainly will the second time
fi 5,20 please
lol!
fi5/20 made to pay a penalty
fi5/20 - comedic fishes?
lots of fish limbs
shoot, sorry, I clued for the 5/18
good clue amanda
I'm a sucker for bad puns
It's a good clue if you already have the word, but if you don't, it isn't. I'm confused.
thankyou Con. I will give it a try cough, sneeze da**
Ah, you changed a vowel. got it. thanks.
fish swim with use of their ****, if they have lots of them they would be fi 5/20
Yeah, when Amanda said she loved puns, my sleep deprived brain understood.
sniff sniff sniff,thanks metal....lol
I'm off Christmas tree shopping - back later I hope (still have 48 words left - including the an5
bye mattygroves have a good day:)
pick out a pretty one matty
bye matty!
Have fun matty. WE have a christmas tree farm.
you're most welcome hodag... oh, did I forget to say you're supposed to have plenty of Kleenexes nearby?
The an 5 reminds me of the di5,14 ... same ending.
trust me I do!!! If only I could blow.
if worse comes to worse, you can always sniff a bit of cayenne.... the irritation caused by the pepper stimulates mucus production in the nasal area. I'd save that for a last resort though since it can burn like hellfire
holy hellfire Bat-metal. my face would melt!!!!!lol
it very well might. that's why you save that for a last resort and use a very small bit of cayenne
I'd rather just eat a bunch of peppers myself, enough of them make my eyes water and my nose run
sniff sniff, cough,I'm sure that would work but I hate peppers!!!
OR, there is the SOUP!!
do you have any Carmex, or Vick's? sometimes you can rub a bit of that just at the edges of your nostrils and it'll help you breathe a bit better, plus the Carmex soothes the rawness your nose can sometimes get
I eat a lot of soup!!!!
soup's always a good choice
as is tea, especially peppermint
hodag, will go find the SOUP! recipe
Well, that's fireworks for me, though I cheated to the list very early. Can I offer any assistance?
Stuck on the small ones again. Any clue for the no 4,4 x2
congratulations amandacath:)
congrats amanda!
Congrats Amanda. Yes, clues for the two no 4,4 please.
Congratulations, amandacath!
black film? And an anagram of it
way to go Amanda!!!!

yayyy amanda

We have to go to a family Christmas dinner this after noon on Dicks side. I'll really medicate and then proubley fall asleep!!! sneeze, cough, sniff1
I want jedi to be recognised! :)
I'd stay in bed with babble!
500g skinless chicken breasts, cubed 3 carrots, chopped 4 celery, chopped 1 parsnip, chopped 1 leek, chopped 1 cup green beans, chopped 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped finely 1 garlic clove, crushed 1 ginger root, grated small piece 1 tablespoon your favourite herb 3-4 tablespoons chicken stock 8 cups water salt & pepper
Chicken soup is the best infention and I love it. I turned some of my chickens into soup a couple of weeks ago.
LOL! hodag!
Thankyou merp.yours sounds wonderful.LOL
Mr. P.....the chicken stock this recipe mentions... is that soup base, a very concentrated thing, almost like a paste? or is it a rich, thick broth?
interesting recipe, the combinations are enticing
metal, it is gourmet granules, makes a lovely rich broth
also, how long does one cook the soup... just until the veggies and chicken are done?
ok, ty
Merk, if you hate ginger, put in lemongrass! very nice!
and, always always add a touch of soy sauce and fish sauce if you make it with fish!
good morning all. Mrp, the ginger sounds like a great touch.
I just coppied that off,it has a lot more things in it then mine ty.lol
metal, I simmer it for about 1 hour, then let it rest... simmer again for about 1/2 an hour and into the bowls it goes
tarragon or basil would be nice too
eva, tarragon is lovely! and corriander words beautifully too
*works
Hi Eve sinff,sniff cough,ohoooooooooooooooo
TY everyone LOL
get better soon hodag!
HiHOHiHO!! it's off to bed I go!
love ya all, bye!!!
I always feel like a traitor to my heritge, because usally chicken soup leaves me less than interested, but your recipe sounds quite a bit zippier. Another direction to go, which would include previous suggestions, would be to put some poblano chilis in, and make it southwestern
good night mrpresident:)
bye mr p
hi hodag. don't forget how helpful a humidifier can be
Goodnight Merp.TYlol
Hodag, my hubby eats chilli pizza when he's stuffy. Great for clearing the sinuses and makes you warm inside as well :)
Hi all.....just had a lovely shower.....now am gonna try and finish....Hi Hodag!!
I also find ginger tea helpful-just grating a lot of fresh ginger, steeping it in boiled water for about ten minutes, straining and sipping. but have to admit that nothing beats nose drops for being able to sleep. Only problem is you can't use them for more than a few days.
welcome back flask. Shower sounds nice - I'll go and have one soon...
ConX.....am hoping its washed some inspiration into my brain....still 20 to find here....lol
Hodag was your babysitting?

***pondering Babble chat, whilst supposed to be solving***
What is your paper about, Bloodaxe?
na 5 === East Asians eat a lot of ***e ( a grain)
i meant ni5...got the number, neato, and bugs in the hair.
ty babble
i have to talk about whether or not buddhism and christianity accept the idea that more than one religion can be true.
oooh boy. that should be some paper. :-)
how can you be definative when there are 11 major christian religions and 24000 different ones in the US alone?
sounds like a book Boodaxe!
hi inge
Wow, serious stuff. You can borrow my Catholic Catechism and book of Canon Law.
hi Wolvie!
ni5 = one hair bug + not off
ty conX
Guten morgen, Inge. Wie geht's heute?
Good morning, I need a clue for ad6/36, please?
G'd morning Inge
morgen, Scrabbler! Gut, und Dir?
that's the problem babble...you can't be definative. so i have to take the information i've studied in class and discuss my feelings on the issue, supporting my arguements with what we've studied in class.
thx ConX! F*I*R*E*W*O*R*K*S!!!
good morning mark - ad word is to be next to.

G'd morning Pam
Tchuess!
Hi, lori and arlene, and everyonw...
Thanks all, Con and Inge got them.
hi pam!
hi, inge2
yw. Any more clues anyone before I go off to do Sunday?
My monkey doesn't get the an8---the n4 part.
just figured I'ld come in and see the puzzle beforeI started the day....
a bump, scrabbler. no**
Scrabbler, an8 rhymes with the word for the exact opposite part of the earth from where you are.
hi arlene
an8 2nd part = n + poetic word for poem
*waiting for clues for the 2 7's I don't have*
careful arlene! its a tricky one1
peri - they're both to do with teeth
Got the an8--TY, I am still trying to "see" the grid.
that an looks like a strange word...
thans, Con, will look for them
got the de7/32
hi all
Scrabbler, lymph no**
peri - the 6 is just a shorter version of the 7
hi, ann
G'd morning annother

thanks Con, missed the de6
this little grid is a real nasty one
good clues, Con, got them
still looking for the last 7
hi another
sounds like a toothy robot peri
yw inge2
peri, each starts with a de* of thieves ... one ends with the fork prong and the other a back muscle: del****
haha, good clue wolvie!
lol wolvie!
ty. ;-)
thanks Wolvie and Babble
Got the 7's--great clues.
no one liked my an clue - against the bump. ;-)
I did Wolvie, that is how I found the a8
thanks, babble, for the other de7
this one makes up for it wolvie! ;)
Scrabbler--remember you told me it would take time?
really? good
Well how much time, LOL?!!!!!!
you give lovely clues wolvie
Wolvie, you give great clues
Yes, Pam. Are you making progress? **eagerly hoping for good news**
I liked it, Wolvie, it just flew over my noggin!
con - clue for the r that comes from the upper right hand corner please?
well thanks babble. I do joke around too much sometimes. ;-)
I am, scrabbler, it would be dishonest to say otherwise
but, it is hard
thanks another
it starts with a double consonant wolvie... a big grey animal shortform
phantom word ...infinity.
I am taking care of myself, and honoring my feelings, and honoring my own integrity....
I get the sense that Pam and scrabbler are not talking about the grid - so - good luck in whatever it is you are doing Pam
Grief takes time, lots of time, and it cannot be rushed. Don't forget to have an attitude of gratitude--everynight remind yourself of at least 3 things to be grateful for.
thanks conX
"attitude of gratitude" is great....
thanks....
Thanks, Wolvie!!!!
Wolvie--life stuff---when life gets in the way of life--bumps in the road.
It's 2 months out of being unceremoniously dumped from a 12 year relationship, and I ahve burdened the list, and scrabbler beofre
3 months, ooopppppsssss
the 'tion' in the middle of the board is very misleading
yw wolvie
and you are dooing great Pam.
It is all personal and subjective, you know, scrabbler?
thanks, arlene
oh - bad news Pam - glad to see you are keeping a positive attitude - again - good luck. BT myself
Well, Pam, you have sought listeners, validators, and supporters. I hope we have done those things.
so we have another small puzzle today...i bet we get blasted for christmas.
My former father-in-law lost his wife in late june and began dating mid-august and he is gaga....
so who knows?
Thanks, wolvie, and sorry you have been there...
jeez pam - sometimes life is just not fair.... and then they expect you to cope!
G'd morning Evan.
hi evan. love that black pearl
i'm fearing that myself evan
Oh, absolutely, scrabbler. Talk about hte benefits of reaching out,,,this has been an invaluable lesson and benefit!
True, con
Arrrggghh, Nuttie
hiya rip....i like rip lori, i think i'm a gonna call you rip.
pam... it takes different times for everyone.... and everyone copes in different ways.... You are doing good...
Pam..have you read The Law of Attraction...you might really love it!
Hi, nut
aaaaaaaaaaargh....scrabbler. hey yerself there pammie
Good Evening All
No, babs1, what is is about?
But from what I've seen, all 'nasty' things that happen to us have hidden gifts... I hope you find/get yours too and know it to be worthwhile! All the best!
there may never be reconciliation, but there always can be forgiveness .... the forgiver will benefit the most
Pam, you have a good attitude. As Churchill said "When you're going through hell, keep on going".
Again, thanks, Con
G'd morning Tiny, missed your entrance.
hi ti**. :-)
it's cause she's so tiny rip
hi tiny!
LOL Wolvie. You're on today!
You know, babble, I have forgiven , to an extent, my ex-- her new gal was a friend of mine, too, and I have not heard a peep from her--some friend, eh? Anyway, life's too short to take the low road
ooh, tx wolvie, I missed that one!
hey! you're in the grid - good clue wolvie!!! ;)
to quote someone from work... the light at the end ofthe tunnel is NOT always another train....
oh crap...i meant hi itty bitty
hey I am in the grid my nickname and my real name
yw inge2
LOL, arlene
yep - see my hello, ti**
It is good to be back
so you own the grid then itty bitty?
hey t***
I am hopelessly distractable this morning...
lol nut!
anyway - any more clues anyone before i really really go?
babs1--what is the Law of Attraction about/
it's good to be hopeless, and it's good to be distracted, so you're good rip
yeah I sure do tonight anyway
the book is all about how we attract what we think about....the contrast in our lives is a clue to start imagining what we want more of and when the thought makes you feel good, that's what begins to show up in your life...
hmmm, sounds intriguing
It's like 'ask and you shall be given'. We mostly forget to ASK!
hi Babs
will have to look at it.. thanks....
YW, pam...HI Wolvie!
i don't think i'd want to understand myself that well babs, if i walked around knowing who i'd be attracted to, i'd avoid everyone at work who fit the profile.
I was just checking "The Law of Attraction" on Amazon--by Michael Losier. Looks great and I added it to my wish list. TY for the suggestion!
hm...evanout, perhaps you'd start noticing more the ones you particularly like....
Ok - bye all then. Have fun, do well and see you next time! *poof*
bye, con!!!
Later ConX.
yes babs...bad bad bad...hubbynut would not approve.
bye con
bye con
*hubbynut* :-D
bye X
Well...There's Losier's book, which is good...Law of Attraction and then there's the The Law of Attraction by Esther and Jerry Hicks who are the authors that Losier studied and many others like Wayne Dyer who teach and practice these concepts...
ingethesecond, did you just wink at my hubbynut?
I saw that there were 2 books of the same name--Losier's "attracted" me more.
There goes our family rating....
Is the Hicks book better?
losiers must have studied attraction better then.
why, doesn't attraction lead to families?
I did, evan
Yes, BR. LOL
LOL Babble
just checking ingethesecond, he's in the next room and didn't see anyway.
no attraction, I guess
The Hicks book is fuller coverage of the subject...Great gift to yourself or others for the New Year!
scrabbler, i looked at both on amazon, and the losier book, on the surface of it, seems more "me"
hmmm, babs, maybe they complement each other?
I agree, Pam--but maybe I'll get both. So many books, so little time!!!
and, mayhap, even compliment each other
then....if you want to do journaling and practice these principles, there's www.15minutemiracle.com....
Anybody have the C word yet?
c + charged particle
ci === not off
thanks, inge2
thanks, inge2

another good place for book comparison shopping is alibris and even better is http://www.addall.com/ - half shows up there along with amazone, etc
hi une
amazoN
hey, wolvie
only thing with half.com is that you have to "join" eBay, since half.com is owned by eBay.
LOL - such is the power of the mistakenly typed word that I typed in inth - even tho I have all the i's
it's like getting off when the elevator door opens, wolvie! LOL!
heh
if that works, where's the elevator?
we have pavlovian fingers!
Beautiful icon, Une.
[the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top?]
we do, Une!

Congratulations, Babs!!!
i guess it's more of a cheveux idee then
wabbit, heh heh
are you still looking for t05.10?? It is a very heavy weight
Congrats Babs1
can someone give me and hi4/5 on the other H?
you mean a clue?
hee hee
rhymes with fi 5/20
product of a male horse and female donkey
hurshy, wanna play guess what N5 I haven't got?
i had best find fi5/20
you might shi*** up a pole
is it from the right, ata? cause if it is it is prob whatever i haven't got
yes, from the far right
yeah, i need one from there. and a middle T, and an R.
Or it rhymes wi the ti 5
not the one after eighth?
oh for heaven's sake
Ata == ni and 2000
ok that just leaves me with an R4
done.
TY Babs LOL how embarrassing
45 mins today. :) :)
done too
thanks all for the help.
hooray hurshy and atalante....hurshy is fast!
wait til you hear how fast ata is... *drumroll*
how fast ata?
ermmmm didn't time it :P
aw man, now how will i know if i won?
it must have been somewhere about the same as you
Didn't yopu just come in the room like 10 mins ago?
I can't believe I'm asking for a 4 letter clue... but I am... any one offer a hint on the NO 4/4? I have the one that means dried seaweed
are there many babblers who can do the puzzle without clues or knowing the letter counts from lickety?
did most of it earlier!
yeah but like to find lots of words before using chat.
french night smooth
Ahhhh
I had 1 clue today
holy crap... I can't believe I didn't see that... thanks babs
I don't use the list but I never finish without clues
film no4/4
i don't use the list unless i'm in a hurry, i usually use clues but have on occasion gone without for an extra challenge.
wow! at...you don't use dictionary lookups or any such crutches?
no!
I sometimes use the list when Hurshy and I get *really* stuck LOL
whew! that's impressive for sure!!
i used the list more, and morewords.com, when i first started babbling, but as you play longer you start to not need them.
are hurshy and you connected at the hip across the ocean??
lol
hi all
something like that!
Hello, Ric... how is your day going?
atalante's my BBB (best babble buddy)
i got up too late lol, dunno yet =)
Think I'm gonna hop off to Sudoku, gotta get a cake done soon. See ya'll TUesday.
bye, bunny
wow...just checked out your gallery at! great stuff...I have a daughter who is a budding artist...do you work for yourself....I put up some of my daughter's work at http://izzylawlor.googlepages.com would love any helpful comments!
gawd this monitors horrible i can hardly read what i've got so far
Do you have your eyes open, Ric?
only just, lol
ty babs! I'm starting to work for myself more and more - that's my aim anyway! *checks out site*
Coulnt resist being nosy Babs, you have a talented daughter
you do, Babs!
and foireworks! finally. lol
congrats
Thanks deeha and at...she's right here, been looking at at's gallery...she wonders how easy it is to set up a deviant art site?
very easy :) just create an account and start uploading pics!
sounds easy...just like googlepages!
did you go to art school or self-taught?
yup :) dA has its own distinctive style, which is a bit non-intuitive, I think, but you quickly get used to it and its a great site
AT, I like your work
Couldnt see yours Atalante when I tried to open IO just got to deviantart homepage??? I might put some of mine on if it is that easy!!
just a subtle hint of celticism... </sarcasm>
izzy has lots of interests in the arts..so looking for ways she can be mentored or do internships or whatever to help her figure out what direction to go...
;)
I did art in school, but that was it. I mean English school, not American school level!
this should get through to mine, deeha: http://elegaer.deviantart.com/
mmm..then did you start doing artwork for companies or individuals or is this a hobby?
am i the only one here that can't draw? lol
nope, tricky, i can't either :)
nope ric... not at all!
I'm doing commissions more and more, and I'm going to be starting getting a bit more professional about it this next year (hopefully!)
I have absolutely no artistic skills whatsoever
I draw a straight line curved, and an ar straight. lol
well yay, lol
but I do handle my own on the carmera, ric
I have to label a stickman
i can't remember the last time i used a camera, at least a proper camera anyway
what's the other j besides enlisting and dope?
lol rabble
j = denims
and I do photography, more as a hobby, but I've sold a good few works to various places over the years too. I love my camera just about as much as my pencils
cheer up sleepy je4, oh what can it mean... to a... daydream believer and a homecoming queeeeeeeen
j4...denims
just got back after looking at your work. I would kill to be able to illustrate water that well, it made me feel quite cold and wet!! Loved it all
one half of my dungarees, smaller
thanks!
tricky: my definition of art is: if i could do it, it's not art.
HA Hurshy! lol
I'll have to remeber that. .lol
lol dorens!
lol hursh
you certainly have captured the dark side ... the feeling wass almost palpable
the dark side is gooood :)
i got myself a graphic tablet for my development system hoping it would help me draw - instead it helped me draw to the level i could on paper, which isn't enough
if someone can toss a can of paint on a sheet and sell it ... well
you only think that because you love hayden
not true Hurshy. I was terrible when I started I am not much better now but I call what I do illustration rather than art!!
hayden definitely helps! but I drew a Sith recently that wasn't Hayden!!
remember the pile of coal the Tate bought. In the mean time the 'artist' died so his wife came over and rearranged it!! Are they having a laugh???
darth maul? he's so scary looking
DArth Talon, she's from SW extended universe
ahhh.
lol ric, I was thinking about getting a graphic tablet... but for photoshop... you can make such precise alterations with a tablet, as opposed to a mouse, but I've worried that my manual dexterity will cause more harma than good if I were to get one. lol
my whole is house is art - unmade beds - outside shed - kiddies artwork!!! LOL
Again I am stuck on last no - I have twiggy one and french colour but am stuck on last one??
tablets rock
i use gimp not photoshop, as i don't have a windows system. the tilt and pressure sensitivity is superb under gimp though
can i ask you guys something? what IS the point of email spam?? i mean, nobody ever reads it, much less buys anything because of it, right? so why do they waste their time annoying us???
deeha... switch the last two letterss of the french one
people do though, hurshy
I've heard the same about using a tablet with PS, as well
-Got it pappa many thanks. What am I going to do for the rest of the evening?!! A drawing perhaps!!
who are these people that buy things from spam?
strange silly people
1`Hurshy, I heard a discussion about spam last week. When they send out a million spams and only two people bite, they are ahead
Enjoyed the chat this afternoon it gave me sometging to thing about. Back tomorrow
i think we should find an empty plot of land and just isolate the spammers and the people who buy from spam on it with an internal only network.
and of course there are alwasy at least two idiots in every million
Not that long ago, the US feds indicted a spammer ... an agreement was made for a plea that included a fine of several million, which the spammer paid. he now works for a government agency to stop spamming
Not that long ago, the US feds indicted a spammer ... an agreement was made for a plea that included a fine of several million, which the spammer paid. he now works for a government agency to stop spamming
when you register your details on some sites, that info is added to a database which gets sold on to direct marketting companies. those companies literally do nothing but spam, yet they can afford the cost of these databases every month or so. they must make a fair profit from spam then...
bye Deeha! enjoy the horrible weather we're having!
note registering to sites is just an example there, data mining is a huge industry
These experts also concluded that there is no way of stopping spam altogether
hurshy... I call that place: Nebraska.... Put a big fence around the whole state, and send the spammers there. lol
someone should write some software that you can set up so that instead of just blacklisting, you could have a bounceback that fools the spamming email address into thinking that the address they sent it to was invalid - cause if that happens they take it out of their database, right?
wrong. if any request is sent back, the address is seen as valid
thats why even enabling the ping daemon can be a security risk
atalante, just viewed your work and I think it is wonderful...yes, I can feel the dark side..you are very talented
well how do they know when an address is invalid? they don't?
an8 please
hurshy- OS X's Mail program has that feature.
ooh, it's doc!
the only solution offered by those experts was to have two addresses, one for online purchases, which will get all the spam, and one for private friends, who agree never to give out that address
hey dr_g!
The NY Times online has hired a data collector to find out where you were before going to the paper and where you left to
in theory no, they don't know when an address is invalid. however in practice it doesn't really matter as the mails are sent direct from an smtp daemon and thus a) takes no time at all, and b) no inbox exists for any errors to return to
many sites do it
anyone having trouble getting into Lickety's list?
an 8 - against + bow head + vowel
doc, does this Mail program allow you to do it with any email address, or do you have to have it in a certain domain?
no Mo
not moi
thanks oldhouse
hi dr god, never seen you on before hehe great game you have here!
I haven't dropped in in a while. :)
all the others seem yo work except that one,,,so frustrating!
except to flush those trolls...
hiya god!
True. I'm always available for flushin' trolls...
Got right in mo; sorry
lol for some reason i'm picturing an admin panal with a "flush troll" button now..
i really wish we had someone with a screen name of margaret so she could say, "are you there, god? it's me, margaret"
must be something wrong at this end...thanks.
LOL Hurshy. Hi everyone - Just popping for a bit
lol hursh
hi there
greetings, SMF
If I had a dollar for every time I was labeled a troll, I would have a fair chunk of change
Long time no babble for me
yes, i was wondering where you'd got to
we know you are not a troll babblerabble :) :)
(sorry to deprive you of the cash...)
My business tripled in enrollment between last spring and this fall. I am teaching 6 classes a week.
and dont forget, Michiganders who live below the bridge are called trolls. There are quite a few of us by now
by the way... i love the icon God... I love ZZ!
Great for the checkbook - not so good for my babble time
You must be very smart, smooth_pappa. ;)
troll troll your boat gently under the bridge
wow, well congrats on that SMF!
There are lots of days I play but don't chat due to time restrictions
Thanks Hurshy. It really is great. BUT I miss hanging out all day here
lol Just one of those bands that I sort of grew up with...
I just realized I haven't changed my icon since Halloween. What is the theme today?
arctic animales
THanks
BRB
God, a few tears ago, I was going to pick up a bite to eat at a local mall food court. I pull in, and ZZ top's bus is in the parking lot for a show they were doing that evening... so I cgo in to get my food, and see the three of them meadering around the mall...
that should be Years, not tears. lol
probably tears too
years of tears
i'm doing seriously badly today - 25 so far =)
heh... one or two along the way, babble ;)
smooth_pappa- Now that is cool. Seeing The Reverend Billy G pickin up some Sbarro at the mall. :)
UGH Lunch is ready back later
hey dr. g, and everyone
that was quick lol, bye music
hi les
Good day, LeslieAnn
the really wierd thing, is that not too many people seemed to know them... I mean, I watched several people ask for autographs and stuff, but they were so old, andthere were sooooo many high-school agers there, that except for some of the music store employees, and parents, they were able to walk around fairly unmobbed.
hey les
gone awfully quiet
Dr G - Thanks for creating & overlording Babble (I think). I'm new - my sister (Katydid) got me hooked when I visited over Thanksgiving.
Hi, to everyone else, too
hi tx
Dr. G -- I said "I think" because I can really spend a LOT of time here and avoid my business (:->)
Hi Ric
haha, hello zinnia
lol tx i think we all do that
Hey, there L.A.
all right everyine... I've got to run and get ready foir the day... see you all later
bye pappa
Later pappa

congrats bernabo
Wow, I can't wait till I get my first fireworks . . .
bye
did katydid show you where to find the lists and such, zinnia?
She did show me the Lickety thing, which is FABulous!
ok good i figured. hard to get fireworks without that, especially when you've just started
Hi, Babblers. I'm down to my last word, and really feel super-dumb to ask for a five-letter: NA5/12. Any help out there? Thank you very much.
Yep, some of these "words" are very tricky
scarlet, it goes along the bottom row
ty les i didn't have that
Oh, boy-oh-boy-OOO. Thanks, LeslieAnn. Fireworks!! I would have sworn in court that I tried to monkey that one. Thanks, all. Off to football!!
congrats, scarlet!
congrats
Thanks LeslieAnn. Is that the baby polar bear from the Coca Cola commercials? TY Ric
yep he's my favorite :)
He's too cute, and that is one of the commercial favorites when the grandchildren are here. :-)!!
if i shake the screen hard enough will the tiles fall into a better grid? :-)
nope, it's been tried, ric
Nope!
shame
also, throwing it out the window won't add more words to your score
yes tricky.....my grid has only 17 words
lol
i'm off out in like an hour and so far i've got 40 - not good
hello chj
Okay I'm back with an appropriate icon
hello mm
Hey, LeslieAnn... just read your profile... I started out as a sports reporter, and years later, ended my newspaper career as the Editor/General Manager! Humor is essential to the wacko element, and necessary to deal with the horrible!
you said it, sister! That's an impressive rise in the ranks.
Hi LA
hi L
small one today
hi nat!
Cute icon Mom
not an easy one though, hatlt
It took blood, sweat and tears, but I gained so much in relation to compassion and human ecstasy & agony... I know I'm a better person for having worked 85 hours a week.
leslie, did you hear the good news, my dad gave me a laptop
85???? ouch!
eek... i was managing editor of my college paper, 40-50 hours a week, plus full-time school. i don't know if i could do it again.
oooh congrats nat
I know, it's one of the unuded ones from work
what's the theme today les?
ah, i had one of those for a while :)
unused*
arctic animals, i believe
Thanks TXZ - I love penguins
its no good i'm gonna have to hit the list
yes - artic animals
brb
I honestly think that when I was the ME, I worked just as much as wearing the shiny boss hat, plus raising children and studies. You're right, you always look back and say "How on earth did I do it?" But when you're in the trenches, you don't give it another thought.
true, scarlet
ok that's better
aww you're so fluffy and cute nat
thanks, I'm a baby seal
mom and dad say hi, and mom wants to know how was the wedding?
MM -- Did you see "Happy Feet" yet?
Congrats on the laptop Nat
it was nice, although this morning i woke up with what appears to be a flu bug, so i'm not feeling so nice now
thanks TXZ, my dad works in a computer division, and has ones that aren't being used, he lets us kids use them
TXZ -- yes I did --- just yesterday. I LOVED it.
My kids were reluctant to go because they really didn't enjoy March of the Penguins when I "made" them watch it.
yeah, I woke up sneezy and sore throaty today, leslie we missed you at uncle jim's....it was a german meal
We took my great niece who's 3 and she (and all the other kids) were dancing with the penguins!
ooh yummy, sorry i had to miss that
Sorry to hear LA and Nat aren't feeling well
that's cute, zinnia
I was bouncing in my seat. Definitely want to own that one when it comes out. I think the soundtrack would be good too.
Robin Williams was HILarious in both parts!
Yes he was.
Phantom word - north
ex - I want finite to be there
Me too MM!
or at least finito
back again to hopefully finish off!
hello mo
I'd like to be "finito" and get fireworks!
Hi mo

You're welcome.
hey, les, did nick ever get my b-day present?
yes he did and was very excited about them
oh good, I saw on the tracking that it was atempted, but I didn't know if he got them
i had to go to the post office to pick it up, even though there is a locked apartment office they could have dropped it off at
I'm sorry that you had to pick it up
pshaw, not a big deal i just don't know why ups does that
the an 8 is against... what?
i'm puzzled there too leslie, tried all the obvious ones
unless its not against anything after all
true we could be barking up the wrong tree here
im puzzled with the di 5/14...any clues for it
first 3 letters are a dead cert, but not the 4th
well according to the stats there is only one two-point letter and the rest are ones

Actually it is against the word for part of a stem
huzzah! thank you bettyanne

I have a terribly sore throat ane am drinking the rum, in wich I had soaked my raisins for the Stollen I am baking. Will the pain stop before I fall asleep? and who will finish my baking chores
maybe noone is ut there. I see it has been quiet sinc e12;44
{{{inge}}}
stid!!! just the person I was hoping to see
I am sorry you are not feeling well. Is the rum helping? I just got in...
I hadn't thought about soaking the dried things in something before using them... hm. *thinking about this new idea*
yest the rum numbs my throat, but how long will I stay awake? My second batch of Stollen are in thier second rising. HOw did yours turn out ?
I wish someone in my family had made Stollen before me. So many things to think about!
hey stid!
rum and raisins? sounds good to me, hell the rum sounds good
ours turned out okay. They are nice and full of tastes -- one bite you get marzipan, another a cherry, etc. Grant had fun putting extra icing on his wheen he was eating it.
hi Nat! how's life? I see Leslie turned into a baby seal...
I did comparison studies of five diff. recipes, all claim to be German, and found that only my mother added nutmeg. So That will be my special ingredient.
can i get a clue for the an 8 please?
oh! I use nutmeg in mine... :-)
sorry Kate, only up to 26 words so far...
an 8; against + stem section ( no 4)
yes she did, since she linked her pics I decided to go back with themes
thanks inge
good morning everyone :) -- back for the 12 I couldn't find last night
hello nan!
I had mine rising and realized I forgot the citron. So I reworked them all with citron'
hello cybernan and anyone else I may have missed:)
Hi nan
hey all i have the de7..what are the other two pls?
oh -- I hate it when I do that! but a little extra kneading doesn't hurt, at least!
there's an ad 7
one is an ad 7, and another de 7
How many do you prepare each time? My recipe is with 5 lbs flour, and I hope to get 6 smaller ones from it.
There's two de7's
ty
if you have ad 6, just add a consonannt
the two de 7's are related: 7/32 is a brand of chewing gum, 7/36 ends like the mechanical man
both de's have to do with teeth
I made 6 small loaves yesterday, using spelt flour it needs more -- I think I used about 10 cups in all. wheat flour (my next batch for giving away) uses more like 8, maybe 9 on a really humid day.
alas, no 'jedi'
the loaves are about 8 inches long.
I don't count cups of flower anymore. I just dump the flower in from the 5 lb sack.
sorry, the plants got into my brain there.
looking for an a from the 2nd row: have ad 7/52, ad 5/12, an 4/4, an 8/45 -- missing?
:-) we buy our flour in 25 and 50 pound bags... because we bake all our own bread and stuff it doesn't pay to get the little bags any more.
I thought about getting the bigger bag from Costco, but I run out of storing space.
nan, probaby the ad6.
an 5/12 anyone?
do you add almonds? do you grind them? or do you use slivered onesss?
That does get to be a problem! LOL lack of storage is my only true complaint about our home -- the built-in in the kitchen was minimal. We have purchased shelves for the dining room, and I have given up on elegant living for the time being.
thanks, gwen
a + stem secteion
an 5,12 opp of cathode
thanks...pass the fish please
inge -- your clue for the 8 just made sense! thanks bubba for the mental nudge!
Hi stid
hi Stid, how goes it?
then look at my an 5 clue, at 1:08
{{{musicmom}}} I missed your mom yesterday but saw she was in the log -- how is your family doing?
bubba, do you go to the Lake in Winter?
We're okay. It has been a rough couple of weeks but we're hanging in there
n from the 2nd row? -- have 'neat' and the other half of 'gritty'
This is the first time I've babbled in about a month
Well, I am still holding you all in my heart. Are the kids enjoying the last week before vacation?
that's a ni*** idea, ends in sometime vowel
nan, I love the way you ask for clues -- I always get words from them!
Thanks. We appreciate it. It was a real shock. Our kids actually have a week and a half to go. They are getting out before Memorial Day for the end of the year this year.
have that one stid
They are driving me crazy acting silly today.
na + no **'s ands or buts
*grin* my kids are letting me rest. for a change. but they don't get out until after the summer solstice, between the late start, the long winter break and the extra break in February for a week.
thanks bubba -- another common one I missed!
Well, it is one of those times when I should be thankful they aren't fighting, but the silliness and rowdiness get annoying after a while. This will be the first year in a long time that our kids haven't had to go until mid-June
Downside is they only get 10 days for the Christmas break. I think I would rather have them out when the weather is nice anyway. I can send them outside that way:-)
luckily, stidmatt is practicing for the concert tonight, and the other one has his nose in a book somewhere...
e from the first column? -- have the ed 4/6
That is terrific. I should be practicing. I'm accompanying a HS choir next Sunday for their concert. I'm watching football and babbling insted though.
very agreed on the sending outside! I send ours out in the rain a lot though... at their ages they won't melt.
how many words has everyone got ?
the en + spanish aunt, nan?
That's right -- if it isn't storming they can go outside and play. Fortunately my kids like to be outside.
I have found 63 so far, 23 left
en + Span. aunt
thanks, stid
I am at precisely halfway...
jesus ive only found 28
plus i aint a brainiac at this stuff eiter
go stid, go
divine intervention is always good
mine too -- I am glad that they are not overly fastitidious. Although there are some days that I would like them to tuck their shirt-tails in!
I have 37 left. I'm really out of practice
LOL stid
rosewood I have good days and bad days, when everyone else finds all the words I need
geez
can we like exchange words back and forth?
clues yes, not words
I am about to go get the list, actually -- rosewood, do you know about Lickety's list (link at the bottom of this page) and Angelsong's Resources?
dangit
43/43 and stalling. I usually get little more than halfway through any grid. I've finished only one.
I think I'm going to have to do the same stid.
they both help a lot when we get stuck...
well, set your goal to finish today, SAM
brb
aftertoon, evenin', all!
hi Gwen!
watching cartoons again Book?
(~noon)
inge lol
LOL inge!
Hi Gwen, how's the book business?
stid, nice t-shirt!
inge, pretty good these days, thanx for askin'
any help on the ad 6?
daughter works for UNi. of Las Vegas bookstore. They have her full time next week, because of "book buy back"
ad + what you do to become a member of an organization
ad 6: to "connect" uses a j
stid, TY
ad + another name for a marijuana cigarette for the ad 7
AHA thanks stid. Told you I was out of practice.
ad + to ecome a emmber and ed + leg ***** (knee)
thanks everyone
inge, ah, the college bookstore is a unique sphere, much diff from my biz, but related of course
looking for two n's from the 4th row -- have 'opp. cathode' and 'dry'
sorry make that two a's from the bottom row
the Greek temple?
is the greek temple an a or an n?
na + ***ky nelson
ar ** meaning dry, and ar*** ( a rpbpt emdomg)
the temple is an a
that was great inge
*ar + robot ending
and we get extra points for deciphering that one?
thanks, bubba
lol
na + two vowels
well I repeated it correctly for the less adept
thanks, inge
hi all!
hi Fran!
thanks, bubba -- that finishes the n's from the 4th row
what's funny is i read inge's clue correctly the first time!!
hi stid!
still looking for an a from the bottom
ne + no **'s ands or buts
stid, my German cookbook says that first rising must be 3 hours. Hehe! By that time mine has left the bowl
*wondering if emdomg will show up in the grid someday* do you know how often my hands slip to the side when I am finding words and I end up having to re-key ten or so?
nan, ar + your elbow is a j****
Inge, are you talking about Stollen?
And Stid?
three hours? wow. I let mine rise for one hour after kneading, and another hour after forming the loaves. It probably would be better to let it go longer, but ... time is at a premium here!
nan, do you have the an 8?
yes, Inge2! we are!
wrong a, fran, but thanks
mmmmm I love stollen but have never made it
yes, Inge 2, I am baking today, and stid did yesterday
a from the bottom is against: a + robot ending: ar + your ankle is a j****
it's not any more difficult than regular bread, musicmom. just tastes like it!
Oh, Yum...Stid did I read that you use marzipan? I LOVE marzipan...would love a recipe that uses it.
I will bake again later this week. Something to do while Tom's in Seattle for the week.
ar 8, against a lymph collection site
I may need to try that. Right now I'm trying to succeed at making cream puffs. The first batch failed. I think I will try again tonight
oh -- got it now -- thanks bubba -- sorry fran -- thought you were clueing the ad
that was the bottom A nan, how about ar + last 3 letters of piles.
yes! I actually cheated this time and used store-bought, just roll a coil about the same length as the loaf, and roll the dough up around it...
oh, awesome...was it good? I'll have to try that
I never treid it with marzipan. Love the stuff and would eat all stollen at once
hey musicmom, sorry about your grandmother! ((hug))
Thanks Fran. I appreciate it. It's been rough
haha, inge. How do you make it?
It works for our family! :-) a cautionary word though -- if your marzipan comes in a can, use a spoon to pull it out. I sliced my fingers up good trying to just "wiggle" it out yesterday.
around here you buy it in a plastic tube thing. It's weird though, you can buy "almond paste" or "marzipan". Is there a difference?
oh no, inge and inge2 both on...too confusing for me. going to go play sudoku. later everyone!
DO 5 please?
sorry Fran!
bye fran
I just dont use marzipan, but almonds, raisins, currants, citron, lemon peel, nutmeg and trhe usual flour, sugar, eggs and milk
Fran -- see you later!
lol, no problem inge2, i just popped in to say hi to musicmom actually.
english poet, stid -- John Do***
nutmeg sounds very good
Can you leave the raisins out? When I eat it I pick them out because I don't like cooked raisins.
later!
*facepalm* thanks nan!
Evening all
howdy ren
hi ren
fireworks now better get some work done happy babbling everyone and hi and bye ren8 am at work so must dash:)
I don't use black raisins -- golden raisins, currants and dried cranberries (only yesterday I used dried cherries and that was lovely).
YAY jean!
congrats jean!
bravo jean
hi ren8
my raisins get soaked in rum beforehand. Changes the taste I guess, if you skip them. Actually recipe calls for more raisins than anything else. Stid adds dried cranberries and/r cherries.
looking for 2 n's from the last column: have close, number and fraction
yum cranberries or cherries would be an excellent substitution.
GAG - the only way to eat a raisin is right out of the box
it is the reconstitution that happens in cooking that I dislike
Hi and bye Jean... Hi Takumo, Inge2 & Stid
The only raisins I like are covered in chocolate... and when my grandmother was alive she would soak some in warm water before putting them in salads, and they were nice that way.
I'm going to have to go for a while. THe kids are getting their pictures taken today. I hope to be back for my last 27 later.
ni + heavy weight
yep chocolate covered raisins are good.
nan, do you have ni + 2000 lbs?
I soak mine in rum too, Inge
thanks, inge
anyone know the total points?

Never saw you pop in Fran - hello
hi ren8! i left to do sudoku, it was a quick one today.
How are you today?
I am working on it, and chatting... it does seem pretty easy for a hard
the whole house is getting over a cold, otherwise we're fine.
I woke up with a sore throat this morning, so I hope I'm not going down with a cold
me too ren
sorry to hear that Nat, we can suffer together then
i'll cross my fingers for you ren8 and nat! it's not fun with the weather getting cooler (yes, even in Hawaii)
Thanks Fran
yeah, it has been 8 degrees most days here
nothing that cold for us, but I grew up where it never went below 70, so mid-60s might as well be freezing for me!
It is not too bad here just lots of rain and quite windy
still not good when you are sick, rain is sometimes worse
well, it doesn't seem like anyone needs clues. going to see what else i can do with my day...there's always laundry.
Thanks Fran..delayed reaction.
Bye Fran - see you later
no problem kkiln!
bye bye fran
Voila! c'est finis!
I'll stick around if anyone pops up, I am still backand forth from sudoku
wtg chic
Where is this Sudoku and is it hard to do
it's the number puzzle, there is a link at the bottom of the page
Oh yeah, I think I registered once to play this
you use, # 1-9 in boxes, rows and columns, and they can't be duplicated
thanks Nat, might give this a try
be careful! It's really really addictive ;)
it's almost completely displaced crosswords in my daily routine...
not another one, I will never get off the computer
it's so fun though
extremely!
This is driving me crazy - could someone please give me a clue on the ed 4/6?
nick name for edward
add the 4th vowel on the end
ad 5 please
thanks! I've never heard that nickname, before, but as soon as you said it, I realized it was the one 6pt combo I hadn't tried
FIREWORKS, I have half hour before a programme starts so I might go and have a look at Sudoku, what a big mistake this might be
to dress up, aknitter

hi long
Hello mo, have you completed the grid?
can anyone help me out with a clue for the 8? :)
hiBiltong...yes i have, just here to try and help.
an= againts something + part of a stem
ill give you a word rain
oh, good. Congrats on your finish! I spent about half an hour earlier today on the grid, and am now back to finish (I hope).
mousey, we don't type words in the chat log, that is why we use the clues
Please don't give words away in the log mousey.
just incase someone wants to try to figure the grid out without help, they don't accidentally get words
thank you ...just ask if you need assistance...i will try and give you clues, although i am a bit slow typing.
im hungry. im trying to be nice
we know, it's just babble rules
thanks nat! got the 8 :)
me too mo
very welcome
I don't get the second part of the clue for the an/8. Can anyone help please?
wow there r a lot of girls here
the second part is no4/5
Biltong...have you got the no4/5?
the word is a point on a stem where a leaf is attached
mousey, it does seem to be that way a lot, there are mostly girls who play, there are a few guys though
aah, thank you NatLT, mo and sparkly
yw
long time since I was called a girl!
me too! lol
yep including my granny hodag
ditto
was your granny the one who got you started playing mousey?
help with the fi 5/20? pretty please?
no
nevermind :)
fi5/20...fish may be this!!!....or fi**** haddock
i did this before i was idoitgang and people called me idoit
good times
I remember that mousey. You shouldn't take offence becasue people often shorten babblers names. Mousey is good, anyway :)
you remember idoitgang
Yes I remember a time you said you were unhappy because some babblers called you idiot :)
no i liked that name
my sister in law is LaslieAnn, and everyone calls her LA, it's just easier to shorten names
you could always insist that when they shorten your name to use gang instead
the 1 person that called me that was annie
anniebrook?
yep
she is like a 75 year old grandmother, I am sure she didn't mean anything by it
mo, I don't get the fi5. Another clue please?
i liked that name
she is a very sweet lady, I am sorry that she hurt your feelings, and I am sure she would be too if she knew it
bittong, ther is one 5 that is like the hi5 and the ti5
and then there is the past tense of the 4
Biltong...rhymes with the ti514...has the sometimes vowel at the end
ty, NatLT
yep
ty, mo
yw
need a fish for that one, don't I!
mousey, you could always change back, and let people know if they want to shorten it not to use idiot, use IG, or gang
no no no .
the reason she didnt know is because she never did and she knew i liked that name
the babble lost it i never got it back
I know honey, but when we caht with people on the log we shorten everyone's names to save time, I am sure that is what it was, not that she thought you were stupid, you are obviously a smart kid to be playing this game
Oh, that is too bad
chat* not caht
yah
thats ok
I am glad you stuck with it and kept playing
Yes mousey, I agree with NatLT. You are smart and friendly.
I am going to head out, it has been fun once again
bye all!!
thank you
bye, NatLT. Thanks for the clues.
bye NatLT.
bye nat see you tomaro
bye guys
bye mousey.
Clue for hte lone c in the bottom corner, please

hi all! just the other night, anniebrook chastised jacula for using the word "retarded". turns out she has a son in his 40's w/ downs syndrome-- maybe that's the problem she had w/ "idiot"? :)
CI4/5...ci+opp of off
ty mo.
yw
Hi libarebel
just a guess...
hey, biltong!
hi everyone
hi libarebel
hi, MM!
yes, libarebel, maybe. It could be sensitive for some. But I still believe nobody should take offence to abbreviated names. I look at it almost as a term of endearment in a way.
hey lib!
hello, mo!
hi mymuseisme.
hi, mymuse
hi mo and bilt!
I agree, Bilt! :-D
Any suduko fans here? I tried and failed miserably. Where do I learn the basics?
love your sweet icon
when you learn inge, can you teach me?
Sorry, inge. I am useless with numbers.
gotta change, brb
i find that suduko is just logic.
what questions about sudoku? And Hi all!
I have never even attempted suduko, lol
so am I, but Hopelessly useless???
Hi,1More
hi 1more!
helo 1more
inge - you just have to practice practice practice.
I just came from sudoku. It is really simple.
lol, I don't speak on your behalf inge, but yes, I am hopelessly useless with numbers
ok, when a number i choose gets pink, is it wrong? What if the whole square of nine turns pink? Does it ever tell you when you have ut in the right no.???
There's a webpage that a lot of people on the iron soduku page use called scanraid.com - it teaches strategies. The thing is, I find them more confusing than useful.
brb
If it's pink there is a repeat
8put in
When it turns pink, you have two of the same number in either the block, the row, or the column. So, yes, it's wrong.
Should only have 1 thru 9 up and down, left and right, and in the 9 square only once
so if it stays white I am safe?
yes (if you are finished)
during the game there are no hints that you are right, only for wrong???
You can give yourself hint...
Ok, will try again
If you think a square might be a certain #, hold the shift and the number and a little green number might be there
If you hold the control and the nubmer, a little red number will appear...
this means that sqaure can't be that number
Sorry for typos
Today's is a good practice becasue even though it says hard, it really is easy
could someone give a clue for the ad 6 & 7?
You sound like a pro, 1More :)
ad + enroll in a club, then knee and elbow are *****s
ad + to become a part of
Do you have the jo4/9 bichon. If so add ad before it
for the 7 add a cons
thanks so much guys and/or gals
Only been playing for about 2 or 3 months, my husband introduced me
Great and as I have heard, it is also very addictive. Hence your name? lol
that name actually started here
my husband is a boggle nut and introduced me to this. I hate that he is smarter than me :)
lol
isn't that awfuy? We do the NY Times crossword puzzle every day and he times himself.
I think it's a male thing :)
sounds like my husband. He bought a book with over 300 puzzles for the planeride on our honeymoon and finished it the first day
you have to let them win occasionally!!!! LOL
Can't beat me at Monopoly!!!
right, mo lol.
1More, that's so annoying. I find I can only do one crossword at a time and then need a break. The only advantage I have over him is in Cryptic Puzzles [like in the London Times].
No one in the family was ever able to beat me in Monopoly, Clue or one called Trust Me.
You know what I do: bye more
*buy
What's trust me?
I think women are better at cryptic puzzles...my husband just doesnt seem to understand them!!
It is a game we played eons ago. You had to con other players out of their money. I had a certain "aptitude" for it <g>
Cryptic are a lot of fun as you have to think outside the box. It's mpt just knowledge
I don't think I've ever played. Any online suggestions?
I forget who it was, but somebody on babble advised of www.eastoftheweb.com. I haven't checked it out properly, but seems like fun.
They're not online, you just have to purchase the books. Are you in the US?
Yes, east coast
well i must be off now...goodnight all... keep Babbling!
bye mo
The one we are currently working on is the "Mensa Cryptic Crosswords" by Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon. They do the Double Crostics in the NY Times
bye mo, thanks for the clues and sleep well. See you tomorrow. Remember, I may not be on often this week, as I will be really busy preparing for my daughter's arrival.
It's published by "Sterling"
I must check them out

G'd evening arlene

*pounces on donuts*
thanks arlene!
the old donut distraction technique.....
hi lorip!
there's assorted belgian chocolates too
help! i'm just not seeing the robotic ending... i mean i think i do...but i can't get it right
now you're just spoiling us arlene! :-)
*glares at fran for thinking of taking her donut*
dispatch, ends like hemorrh***
you guys spoil me too..it's just my turn
oh...did you want another one feather?
Dis, and andr***, a robot
hee, i get possessive about boston cream donuts
well then...thanks so much...i was one letter too low!
goooo dispatch!
ha, instead of "my spot", it's "my donut!"
hmm, so if you were a kid you'd lick all the donuts in the box so no one else would take them?
:-)
hee hee...i mean, no!
Hey Everyone - Refresh Clues page for a couple of tweaks - a count, better image quality, and another stats showing how many unique words seen versus total count. Enjoy.
i am going to snuggle my little one for night...i'll close my eyes...see the grid...and find the last 18 words. Then i'll return in about an hour to type them in and announce fireworks to you all! bbs
wow lickety! thanks!
cool, thanks for the hard work lickety!
Thanks for all the assistance Lickety
thank angelakk for one suggestion ;-)
lickety...haven't used you yet today...but love you anyway!
very cool lickety, nice improvement on the graphics too.
oh that's just funky Licketty
bye dispatch
I really like it licketty...thanks
later dispatch!
i have none of the ADs
wait, just saw one of course, to decorate
Can you believe that if you had done the last 247 grids you would have typed all but 700 of all 4 letter words? And you would have typed 3211 different 4 letter words
....wow
hey arlene, cool icon! lol
that's a lot of 4 letter words!
no, i can't believe that lickety, but i know you have the stats to back it up! :-)
i'm seeing double!
I wonder how many grids it'll take to have all 4 letter words used
i can think of a few extra 4 letter words i typed and weren't on the grid! lol
kier picked the same fox as i did too lbd!
just shows good taste Frannie
ldbdawger - and there are a few in the grid's you neer would have thought should be there ;-)
feather, you want clues for the other two ads? or did you find them.
that's the truth Lickety!
i'll take clues, monkeys aren't working
ad6/36, ad + connect
hi lbd... it sure is....
ad+where two bones come together
ad7/52, ad + your elbow is a *****
ahhh
thanks!
i have to remember those for scrabble, could be a extending option
Hows this for stats - of the 20,000 4 letter words in the last 247 grids, only 3200 where unique
were! doob
does that mean they were only used once in the last 247 grids?
so the other 16,800 4 letter words were the same ones over and over again?
You got it!
lickety are you working on a dissertation or just into statistics?
and 41 repeats is the top repeat
I'm starting to hate in words, as much as re words....
so if we memorize every 4 letter word.....
don't tell me...etna
I think I've uncovered a strange new fascination with statistics
an8 please?
feather, against a lymph
ante and etna are the leading repeats yes
againt + lymph
thanks!
so you'd think i'd remember to try them every grid, but i still forget!!
me too Fran me too
np feather!
lickety, do you know what percent of the last 247 grids have been over 200 words?
I'd have to work that out - but I know the average is 173

ar + wrist is a j****
hi everybody
hi ping!
ar plus an elbow as a j**** in your arm
hi ping
hi ping
G'd evening Ping
miles, after a while you recognize words that show up often, other then that, i do what you do a lot.
thanks loriP !!!!
meow... we use licketty's list and clues.... at least that's what I do...
did you know that word???
how are you guys?
that's one of the ones that shows up quite a bit miles
i'm great ping! how about you?
then when it's all done I go look and see what it means
Yes, miles, what Fran said. I love words, and this game was made for me, because I can't cakewalk it. I learn something new every day.
i'm good too fran - how are your kids?
Ping, I'm great this even, and I trust things are good fot you! :)
we're all sick this weekend, but the kids are getting over it quicker than mom and dad!
sending healing vibes to all of you!
Ok, cool. I was just wondering whether I just missed out a lot in school. :) I was an engineer...lots of math classes. :(
other than the cold the kids are just awesome, they amaze us every day.
thanks ping, that's nice! ((hug))
i don't think so miles, i learn new words every day here!
10 to go..... yeesh
go arlene go!
you can do it, arlene
Go arlene!
just t's left
Rah, rah, siss boom bah, gooooo arlene!
6 left
all to's
How tired am I? 5 hours until I have to get up, and yet to slumber......
Need any hints?
swap places with you lori I'm not going to sleep at all
helping out with taking a group of preschoolers to a nativity play at the school tomorrow morning :o)
The force is with you arlene, the to's are pretty straight forward.
wow lori, i could do that in college, but i sure can't do that anymore!
Eek! garyand julie. I've been outnumbered by preschoolers most of my life. :/
the stay up all night thing, that is.
they can be so much fun I find them amazing to be around
Fran, necessity is the mother of invention. I am in a 4 week work crunch, where fatigue is the name of the game. I am learning to function on "newborn in the house" mode. :)
lori, congrats on the newborn :o)
i'm so glad my daughter decided to start sleeping through the night at 4 weeks.
Ack! We have four kids, and I am now 41, G&J, no more babies here....
lol, i sensed you were using that phrase figuratively lori!
am going to have to boast, all 3 of mine slept through from literally day one. my 4 year old been up on and off past 3 weeks with the lurgey, it's really wearing me out. Am used to a full nights sleep
Fran, you were lucky. I had 3 of 4 that way. #4? nuh uh. had he been first, he'd have been an "only". LOL :)
well Gary would like 6 I think 3 is enough but will settle for one more
rofl lori!!
our first slept all night at 14 months, the second at 10 months - i shall not boast
i'd love to have another one, but they are too expensive!
when they start sleeping all night what ever age you can boast. Friend of mine had a daughter didn't sleep through until she was 7!
wow ping! they tortured you!
They're all different, that's for sure.
done
help with de7,36... please.
oops...sorry fireworks
yay arlene!!!!
Woot Congrats arlene!
you go arlene!!!
miles, it means tooth-like
hooray for arlene
starts like the other de7 and ends like hemorrh***
thanks, fran, i needed those too
np ping
you beat me to it fran I was trying to work out how to spell it
i don't even know if i spelled it right either jules!
wtg arelene
thanks all...
works for me :o)
thanks Fran! :)
now that i finished.... night all...i'll just leave the donuts and chocloates for you all....
yw miles
thanks arlene! night!
night arlene and thanks
son looks like he might settle off to sleep *fingers crossed* he's just settled down with pillow and quilt :o)
G'night arlene. (she says waaay after the fact)
*crossing fingers for julie*
me 2, julie
Indeed. Been there done that, bought the tiptoe of silence shirt...
thanks, if he sleeps I can possibly grab 2 hours
you could do what my husband does...he'll take the baby into the room to put her down and falls asleep, a couple of minutes later the baby comes back out wide awake.
anyone need any clues ?
Gary does that to fran !
Oddly, in out house, silence was deadly. Noise brought better sleep, and #3 was photophobic, so, the darker, the better. When turning on a lamp, be prepared for the crying.
yes please...an 5/12
I found my son in our bed tonight and Gary in sons bed
LMAO Fran, I have seen that umpteen times. Made me giggle every time. The best of intentions.... :)
lol
an and a 3 letter word for a type of poem
must not be a "guy" thing
ty julie
your welcome
brb, son wants a snack
What does the pitcher say? Ewer welcome!
lol! bit late to be addling brain with jokes LOL
The final sign of fatigue. Giddiness.
don't you hate it when you refresh the page to look at new icons etc and your fireworks vanish ?
espresso is the answer *g*
back
*waves hello*
does somebody have a new icon
***Thinks of a lame pun, can't deliver***
That's just as bad lori
why doesnt dijon work?
yes ping, it's Monday here so I changed mine to an artic scene
its a mustard!
it's a noun
If there was an i connected to the d, perhaps....
I got rid of my gineau pig icon for the day
Followed by a breaking of all the known Babble rules....
and I spelt that wrong
i think because dijon is a region in france...proper noun
And a silence of the voices of fatigue in my head.....
there is lori bottom left
:)
clue for the ad 6 and 7?
LOL, I rest my case g&J, bed it is for me.
ping, ad + connect
and ad + your elbow is a *****
thanks, fran!
add another letter for the ad7
I thank you all for your company and perceived forgiveness of my fatigue. Have a great evening.
then adda consonant to the end
yw ping

G'night all. :-)
i'm gonna have to go and get started with dinner...see you all later!

Hmmm.... let me think.... is there a Christmas-y arctic there I could think of? That way I wouldn't have to change icons for two days? Hm, I just can't think of ANY sort of thing at the North Pole or that area, that might be Christmassy....

do5/12, insert a double consonant in the previous do5
Isn't santaland in the arctic harp?

sorry, had that one, Fran, from great clue before, I needed IN 6/18...
Why not ... santa working ... surely.
how about a scene from rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, the animated one
