hi faerie
Hi Natasha
lol, I've already got more than I got all day yesterday
ARB, i'm listening to Israeli radio while i play - Kol Ha Campus - 106 fm
Melon, I've never heard of it -- will go turn on the radio right now.
200!
wooHoo hk!
wow! go HK
te 7
th8
its www 106fm co il on the internet. there playing spacey instrumentals right now
their - & english my 1st lang! sheesh
got my new icon & going to bed now - taped the housewives & going to watch it now
good icon hk - those were my 1st chapter books - have fun & laila tov
wwhat the heck are 'chapter books' - kids say that all the time. what are they talking about?
books with chapters - as opposed to "little kid books' i guess
chapter books are books where at the end of a chapter you make a choice of which chapter to go to next
you can read it several times and make different decisions
an7
so there are a half dozen different endings possible. I have a bunch of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ones
drb - so are you saying then that each 'chapter' is a story in it's own right?
dr, aren't those just choose your own adventure books? My kids refer to books with distinct chapters as chapter books
it is a big deal to move from easy readers to books with actual chapters
we used to call those 'pick-a-path' books
could be. My daughter always called them chapter books and what does she know?
I guess about as much as any other kid dr! I bet they get called different things regionally. Kind of like pop vs. soda
chapter books usually refer to books released in seperate chapters, used to be fairly common, most recent example of actual physical book rather than etext that i know of was stephen kings green mile
yeah, a big deal to progress in reading, puhl-leeez! - that's why school is TOO easy now-a-days & kids are too spoiled
so 8
i have never heard of a pick-a-path book, ever
I don't know that I agree that is is totally too easy. My kids have had homework since kindergarten--and it wasn't always simple.
drb i love buffy
then again, they were in a charter school that was mixed grade
joss whedon is writing a new comic book that will be Season 8 of "BtVS"
http://www.gamebooks.org/pickpath.htm
I think being with first and second graders allowed them to move in and out of their comfort levels with different subjects
i heard that! i read the first few pages and it looks great
but to make such a fuss over progress in reading is a big reason why johnny can't read - it's a necessity -the thinking ought to be more like you just HAVE TO do it, like you have to eat to survive
This grid rocks! Makes me feel fast and smart
yes- exactly, hahaha - kids need "comfort levels" now because: drum-roll, there aren't enough good teachers, it's that simple
I've ordered three copies from my comic book store: one for me and one each for my daughters
Yeah, just type words you think might be there and they usually are. Amazing.
Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but a chapter book is pretty much defined as a book with chapters that combine to tell a full story. Choose your own adventure/path books are kinda a subset of those.
I see what you are saying hk--and I agree schools fall down in a lot of ways. However, I do think it is good for little kids to see reading as fun and a challeng and this is one way to foster that
he says jumping into the midst of a convo!
when do those start publishing? march comes to mind
my father was my best teacher of reading and I loved it from age 5 on
*challenge
& not enough parents who are willing to give up the second job & stay at home to provide that 'comfort' that helps kids to read - too much stress on the poor school system, underpaid teachers
i got 3 copies of each of the firefly comics, but basically just to get 1 of each cover :-D
something like that. should be if they are ordering them now
hi everyone!
jili - same here with my mom - i remember her reading to me as far back as i can remember, there was always reading
especially such things as the verse in my icon nobody is reading -
i draw the line at being cover crazy. Then again I have close to 200 8 x 10 Buffy/Angel photographs
I was NOT read TO - I was taught to read to myself
i just ordered all the LEGO parts to build a serenity. maybe i shouldn't have admitted that
There's a LEGO serenity? Oh, I don't need to know that...
www.reasonablyclever.com
i miss picture books, now that my kids are older - there are some wonderful illustrators out there, both older and newer books
hk, I don't think of comfort levels as a way to coddle. My kids, like all kids, get some things more intuitively and need more time to learn others. They could join the second graders in reading and the first graders in math and stay with the kindergartners for other things. That's the great thing about mixed age classrooms.
What is a lego serenity?
or even before that, what is a serenity?
it is a space ship from a tv series and movie made of LEGOs
The TV series was called "Firefly" and the spaceship was "Serenity," the title of the movie
arb, serenity is the name of the spaceship from the tv show firefly (and movie serenity). a fan made one out of legos
jili - i just came back from reading your profile - informative as awlays :) vn!
I should tel you all that I am the dispair of my sons-in-law for not knowing anything about Star Wars et al.
My daughters gave up long ago!
helen -- I hope you enjoyed King John -- ???
drb - really?? over 200 pic of angel & buffy - i find that funny
fading - 136 words, 20 7s, 5 8s - laila tov all
yes jili - i did, but then i've been having eggnog & rum for a while now
200 pics of "angel and buffy"? or 200 pics from both series you mean?
Okay, I changed my icon so everybody can see the LEGO Serenity
laila rov Melon
Tov
gotcha ;)
{poof}
nat - thanks for being, uh, diplomatic, i get preachy when i get drinky
200 from both series, most with the logos on them, and a couple dozen autographed
drb, i should be clear that i'm making the small one
But DrB you still say Lucy Maude Montgomery
not the much-more-awesome giganto-one
Yeah, I suppose I should change that part too
oh, no problem hk--I just thought we were having an interesting conversation from different points of view
i wish i could have the big one he made though. it would have a place of honor in my house
nat - good, yes,interesting it was :)
good nite everyone
I used to have a dozen LEGO castle sets that I would combine to make into architecturally "real" castles
anyway, I have to get up in 5 hours, so I must head off to bed. see you all later.
If you think lego serenity is a children's author, DrB!

hi
I'm in a sulk, sprite -- didn't want a big grid today -- haven't had time to finish anything lately and hoped to be able to this time
(((jilli))) But it is a fast grid, really. It is a lot of fun.
the dw 8 and es 8 are eluding me!
my cat is attacking a box and trying to eat the tape on it
is the dw 8 a derivative of little people?
quite funny
cybernan: there aren't any smaller than the dw8!
ah -- got it!
I have all of 37 words, only 2 8s, just not seeing things through the sulk :(
how many wa 7s?
Ah, nothing wrong with a good sulk, jilli! ;)

which one jil?
wtg jilli!
th8 -- I think everyone has it already
I wonder why you can't hitch up a horse again?
you can, cybernan. Only enable can't.
that darn es is my last 8 ---- grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
And I want someone who does the Th8 to be valid!
me too sprite -- tried it a couple of times
it is a chemical word, nan, the es8. It builds on the es5/10.
I have one es 5/10 -- is that the only one?
I don't know yet. So far I have only one too.
Sprite - can I have the value pls so I can work out the end. TY
the def of mine is: a compound produced by the reaction between an acid and an alcohol with the elimination of a molecule of water
licketys sez 1 es5
es8/40
one each of es5, 6, 7, 8
the es8 's def is: any enzyme that hydrolyzes an es5/10 into an alcohol and an acid
could I bother someone to tell me which 8 I am missing? I have dw, ea, es, so, th...
couldn't see it but typed it in anyway and bingo
I do that all the time, jilli, lol.
I have the same ones, Volleymom, sorry.

well done wilson - g'night
that ra8 eludes me. Am I just blind or is it a funny one?
I still haven't found it either
nor I
try of being ra4/4 for the ra8
thanks :)
yw
Volleymom and jilli: the worth of precious stones depends for a good part on their ra8.
the ra ends in the loch monster
ty joey & dispatch
joey ty ty ... didn't get it til your clue!!!
ty dispatch
yvw
ty sprite
i've got the es 5, 6, and 8...but can't see the 7. any clues?
anyone have the lo5/10??
es7 is not related to the others
es + trick or ...
thanks joey -- it should end in ity though
the lo 5/10 ends in the same thing as the loch monster
ty BR...should have had it...it's been in the grid lately
i agree jillibus, i have never heard of that word. but then there are a lot of words that i have never heard of that are in here
oh ty joey
too right, joey!
and thanks for the es, babrab
Im stuck on that ES 8 I have all the others...I keep monkey typing but can't get it...help, please. Only 8 Im missing.
es5 + ** the world turns + vowel
es8: er + con + er5/10
sorry...es8: es + con + er5/10
Thanks!
Did everyone find the Ts4/8 without any vowels?

ty sprite
Ive just found it
a babblet if I ever saw one, lol
hi all...been lurking for a bit, but now i'm totally stuck on that dw 8. pretty please?
hey ramix, longgg time no see indeed :) dw8: the smallest of the lot.
the smallest of the small people
ty for mentioning the ts...
off to work I go, see you tonight
bye ren8, have a good day
I found a ts4/8 without any vowels but it was "not found in the dictionary" :(
or rather, the most small of the small people
ack!! the only suffix i didn't try. thanks for the clue guys!
girl friday said a word!
indeed
Do I have to take a time out?
lol
on the naughty spot?
nope...just next time...give me a word i don't already have!! heheh
got the ts4/8 and the singular is a word I use a lot!
for me it is a word they use with me a lot ;)
I use it when I'm about to be slapped with a fish
nobody would dare slapping you with a fish!
howcum I'm covered with scales for missing that ts?
will that perpetrator report at once for proper punishment! No slapping jilli!
maybe I did it to myself ;)
lol, that would complicate matters!
soft
go jilli goooo, on your way to an 8 :)
ech -- but you all have it anyway
I had the 8!!!
Hi all - have you lost it then Jilli?
*very big grin*
lost some marbles, I think!
hi angb
hi angb - you said a wo-ord :) And jilli too :)
oh dear -- now I see
Evening .... Have I sprite ... its hard not to when there are 335 of them. Love this type
Yes, it is Angb, lots of common words in here.
And I didn't have it ... so thnx
That's me ... common
well, yesterday we couldn't say "grid" or "icon"
Hi Ang
yes, that was tough
I kept reasonable quiet yesterday. Hi lynxxx
i am missing an L. i have the lo 4,5,6, and 7 that are related; i have the lo5/10; i have 2 lo 4/4. any help for my missing L?
another lo4/4, I think. They all come from the same word.
unrelated lo5 - end as the (last 3 letters of) loch monster
:D, got that...and sprite...3 4/4 all together
That lo 5/10 is a lovely word
yes 3 x 4/4
is there four 4/4?
there is 3 x 4/4, you said you had 2.
i listed the 4 relating to the 5,6, and 7; and then 2 more 4
there are 3 lo4.4 - one ends in double cons
lo 4/4 = to not win is to lo**, or suffer a lo**, meaning that you have lo**
the 4 related to the 5,6,7 is 4/7.
oohhhhh...i am confusing myself!
needed that first lo 4/4 that was so obvious that i copying jilli and saying t4 to myself!!!!!!!!!
Did you lo4/4 something? I am so sorry for your lo4/4. It has been lo4/4 for a long time now.
thanks, all -- greyed the L
yeah :)
ditto jilli
now if only i could see more than 12 F's!!!! those will have to wait until later this morning. I'm off to bed now. nite all!
night Dispatch
nite dispatch

that's funny, I only have 12 F's too!

tool?
the short ones go well with another vowel too. And latin brother.

I came, I ---, I conquered
hi ramix

wa7/52 compound - someone who should keep a tighter rein on his temper?
hmmm
or, if you don't like cryptic clues, think nuclear.
hmm indeed!
ahhh !
I don't mind cryptic clues; its the encryptic clues that are a smidge difficult
ah, got it - thanks again
I guess im too tired to get it tonight...thought I had it twice...but no...
baby's going "wah!", dear, all confused. Now that's a brit-type cryptic clue.
girlfriday: when nations fight with arms + upper part of your body

wow, ramix -- well done!
wtg ramix!
Oh - silly me - I was trying to get it along the lines of we7.44! out of practice with cryptics I guess
nope...obviously got the first part. Just realized there's two ways in on this word...maybe tomorrow. thanks though
thing is i usually dont get time to get back to the grid before it flips...so i hate leaving.
but i have to sleep, it's already 1am
here too, ramix, and Cat says it's bedtime
Cat is soooo right ;)
Good morning/evening all. Looks like work today!
Hi Haz! It is fairly easy, actually. The words will fly out at you right away.
Hi Haz - just in time though - unless your a speed typiste
I don't think I'd count as a speed typist!
wart
that's one!
See - not concentrating yet!
better clue would begin "aiming for trouble when baby says 'wah!' dear,..."
hi haz
wow, that is a great one, jilli
It worked for me, jillibut!
hoho -- good!
f7 - she was worried about the cutting remarks
pfah, finally got my last W. No idea what it means, vaguely remember it being in grids before. wa7/44 - drop first and 4th letter of 'the state of realising it is there' like in self ~, cancer ~.
well, brain has fizzled so I'll have to settle for not even being close to half way, but it's been fun and I'm over my sulk, thanks to the good company.
sweet dreams, jilli, and thanks for the fun :)
I like that one too, lynxxx
Its been a pleasure playing with you Jilli as always - bye for now
Sleep well, jillibus.
yes, lynxxx -- another nice cryptic!
Thanks all, and good night *poof*
Is this cryptic clue day?
nite jilli
no, lots of non cryptic clues in the log, Haz. But I have to admit, I love good cryptic clues :)
I do too.
hi all :) that has to be the height of language skills - understanding cryptic clues in a foreign language!
Hey Ata *hug* I longed for you earlier - wanted someone to weep with me over Arwen being here and not valid!
oh no! poor Arwen :(
Hi Atal
Good morning, Atalante.
*feels totally understood now*
there have been some nice tolkien-y words recently
yes, and some of them even valid :)
not enough of them though!
Hi Ata
why why do I start grids when I know I'm not awake enough to see words!
it is called 'addiction'
Halfway - time for break - BBL (who said addiction!)
bye lynxx :)
Good one lynxxx
fireworks :)
Congratulations sprite!
Yay sprite - such genious
* genius - now you can see why I am only half way
lol! That's because you started later.
With the time line I start much earlier than you LOL
see, all is relative ;)
I love these grids - makes me feel like I know some words ...
Loved this one too. And for such a big one it has few unwords.
yay spritey!
I have found my 1st 8 letter word - not looking at clues tonite - stupid me
go Angb!
Doesn't happen often sprite so I am pleased for small mercies.
it is fun to find the biggies all by yourself. I also need clues most of the time.
thnx for the support sprite ...
im a newbie can you give me any tips
I am off, shower and then some domestic chores. Oboe, welcome here. If you scroll down to the links at the bottom and click Angelsong's Babble Page, you will find great tips there. Good luck!
hello and welcome, oboe
If you care to read Angelsong's Babble Page, under Friends of Babble at the bottom left of the page, you will find lots of info about the game, the rules etc. Otherwise, try to find four letter words and build up from there. I hope you enjoy the game.
Have a good day/night/whatever all of you and thanks for the fun :)
thank you
Bye sprite. And hello oboe
Hello oboe from another newbie
hello kangabrat
Just players here; some longer than others. Welcome!
and welcome kangabrat. Have fun :) *poof*
Hello everyone...
Good morning, Douglas.
douglas! hi!
Hello Haz
Hello Atalante
Quite a few words in this grid...
Hi all
how long have you guys been a member of babble
You're right there, Douglas.
And good morning Yoink.
oboe - if you click on anyone's icon, it usually tells you when they joined.
Almost a year, oboe
phantom kestrel
I'm 6 days older than you in babble age, Haz ;)
how's spangle today, haz?
Snoring happily, Atalante.
Ricky would say to Fred, "I'm going to let Lucy **** in her own goose."
But I'm MUCH older than you in human years, Yoink....
awwwww happy spaniels all round :)
And (hopefully) a happy labrador back home
She'll be even happier when she gets a walk. But, as in the Shakespeare weather report 'The rain, it raineth every day.'
Morning all, rather too large a grid today me thinks
so will Hobbit ... but rain here as well
Good morning FMitch - it's large, but fun so far.
aww you have a lab, yoink? what colour?
Hi FMitch, you'd be surprised, there are a lot of easy words that just jump out
Black, Atalante. just over a year old, called Bonnie
how do you put info in your profile
Which reminds me of the two Ronnies sketch when, imitating a sports report, they announced 'East Fife 5, Forfar 4 so far.'
awww! black ones are the best
Might use Licketys version instead so I don't miss out on all the fun
oboe - you get to put up a profile and icon when you pay to 'go pro'. You might want to take advantage of the free trial period to see whether you enjoy the game.

That has to be the longest clue! For ta5/10?
oh!! she is *gorgeous*!
I know I must have said a word in there somewhere...
Yeah, she is. We've just had her about a month
I was reminded of the Piranha Brothers sketch when I saw that word
has any one found the 8 letter word
I have one 8, th8 meaning intimidate
oboe there are 6 x 8 letter words
I have that one as well (hadn't realised it was an 8!)
thanx yoink!

oops and sorry

Don't worry, kangabrat, it happens all the time

Some people do it of7/40 than others.
Heh, didn't have it with the extension, thanks Haz
It doesn't look right as a word, though.
it doesn't, does it
No, I think I'd usually say more of5
but it makes one laugh!
I might be movin' to Montana soon...
warhat should be a word, the hat you wear to go to war
or the hat for a wa7
shouldnt cessate be allowed?
Change it to what you wear your hat upon, and see what you get.
I have that one already, thanks
Grand!
ballerina
Atalante - cessation is the noun, to cease would be the verb, my dictionary,(admittedly flawed) doesn't have cessate.
ahhh ty Haz :)
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
sorry\
Thanks for saying that Haz, I was going to say something to that effect...
I think...I think I am...therefore I am...I think Of course you are, my bright little ****
Okay - time for dictionary corner to turn her attention to things household. I've got 194 words so the rest can wait until later. Have a good day!
bye haz :)
bye haz
bye haz
7 behind you Haz, see you later
Have a good day Haz
Yoink, that is a coool surgeon fish in your flickr photos
That was in the Red Sea off Sharm el Sheikh, never seen water so clear and so many fish
the Red Sea is so lovely. Especially way far down the coast of Egypt. Its stunning
That jetty went out about 30 metres with the water just over it and the fish would swim all about your feet
oh wow! that is very cool
I'm halfway to halfway...back later for another bash...
You can see it on another of the pics, it went out over a coral shelf
Bye Douglas
oh yes, that is *very* cool
bye douglas... nearly halfway too
I love travel
me too, especially diving places with pretty fish
I considered diving there but I could see so much by snorkelling that I didn't bother. I have been diving in Goa but the visibility was atrocious in comparison
i have found no good words
I'd go diving anywhere. There's always something to see. and its just fun being underwater
but I'm just addicted to diving
Keep looking oboe! They're there. And I am off to do some housework :-( now that I am half way.
It is a great feeling, the freedom of movement is very liberating
Bye kangabrat
oh its wonderful. best feeling in the world
does this game ever get boring
nope!
frustrating, infuriating, fun exciting but not boring
lose
That all depends on your bordeom threshold but it hasn't with me
sorry i ment to type that to the add word area
Hello again
HI lynxxx
Hi lynxxx
how much does it cost to go pro
$14.95 I think
peanuts Oboe - about US10 - for a lifetime of addiction!
Think it's $14.95 USD (one off payment)
I can't remember it's been so long, $14.95 I think
i looked at the rankings you guys are good
We have been play way too long!!!!
when the addiction gets you !
Sshhhh lynxxx we can stop whenever we want, can't we! Honest : )
well, I now I can!
but I just dont want too!
(and see what it does to your spelling!)
LOL
You should see what it does to your productivity at work too...
I conquered that Yoink - I only do it at home now. Alright, I have been known to be 2 hours late into work or only have 4 hours sleep but...
bye bye
Well my job is boring and I'm only here for less than 2 months more now, so I don't really care. Bye oboe
bye Oboe - hope we haven't put you off! Babble really is good.
run away while you still can!
200 up, slowing up though
Morning all.:)
Morning , Jacula
Hi Jac !
Hi Jac!
Hiya, everyone!!!!! Rather a large grid today.......
Hi, movieman
Hi mm. Yes, looks like another day will pass without me doing the ironing!
Hi Movieman
I have 9 of the 34 (!!!) 7's so far.....that's da7, ha7, ne7, se7, st7, th7, wa7, & we7x2......some cluez for the rest would be nice, plz?
ea7, plural of people that get a salary
and 2 more ea7s that build from ea4/4 the compass direction
he7 - organ + 2 letters
Thanks Yoink, thats given my total a little boost
fr7.56 compound word / he7.32 take he**** / lo7.40 a place up high / re7.28 birds do it / we7.44 there are three of these
same here, yoink......got 16 of 'em now......
There are wa7/44 - prophets of doom and failures at recycling
po7/32 - a rear entrance or gate
ae7/28
of7, more of5
te7/28
an7/32 - plural flower part
es7/28 - add a little luxury for yourself to the es
Haz - does the an flower sound a bit like the an cattle disease?
haz, was that wa clue for 1 word or 2?
It starts the same way (first four letters, but ends in the US medical drama)
It was for two different words, MM.
TY Haz - and TY Movieman for starting that!
wa7/44 - those who give notice (the prophets of doom) and wa7/44 - those who fail to use things to full advantage (recycling failures)
That's me up to 21 7s, still only one 8 though. Anyone got any hints for 8s other than th8?
Not me, Yoink, sorry.
dw8 - the smallest of the small
I have a wa7/44 but I'm not sure if its the same as the recycling clue or not ...
Thanks, lynxxx
es8.40 chemical - extend the es5.10
The recycling clue works from the homonym for the bit between chest and hips.
so8.55 use in laundry
haz, still can't get the prophets of doom one......
And thanks twice more
The prophets of doom could also be plural of movie-making brothers?
lynxxx -- your clues are great...
Or the brothers and sister from Anamaniacs!
oh.......i already had that one, no wonder i couldn't get it......
wa7.52 used in A bombs (I think)
(that one is compound type too)
ok i have a different wa7/44 then
still can't get the es 7...luxury?
kkiln - es=trick or t****
Okay, try e plus a road in a city or town, but change one vowel
wa7/44 - the state of being small in Scottish, change the second letter of the small word
Good grief, that's a word?
apparently!
Weird word
Thanks....I was missing the smaller word.
ea7 and 8, sincere
I think Im lost - how many WA7.44s are there ?
I have three so far, lynxx.
3 here too
TY
morning all, I have 4 wa 7's
But is one a wa7/52?
ata, clue me further on that wa7/44 plz?
ra8/40, the state of being ra4/4
sorry, just seen that one is a wa7/52! I'll go back to my box now.........
hi everyone! starting really late here. thanks for all the 7 and 8 clues!
It's okay, sugar, just checking to see if you had come up with another wa7 that we didn't have.
ermmmmmmmm I can't think of another clue! its such a dumb word
hi fran
Hello FranMag - I'm just backing away from the computer, things to do...... And the number of words left is even, so that's okay.
wa plus a vowel then the monster of the Loch (wa7)
hi sugar, hi haz!
ty haz......
Hi sugar and FranMag
hi yoink!
You're welcome - bye again!
6 more 7's left......
ty haz!
bye hax, tx for all the clues - hiyoink
bye haz!
Bye, Haz
hi Fran!
hey ata!
i don't know why i started this one! i have a lot to do tomorrow besides babble.
Haz....I got it!
Hi Fran - hope you type fast
i do lynxxx, but my brain doesn't find the words as fast as i can type!
You'll be fine then, the words are pretty easy to find
Finally down into double figures required
clue for the k plz?
ke4/11
ty yoink......
Good going Yoink
Good morning Babblers. 335 words! Look at what some E's, R's T's and an S can do. I'm diving in!
hi scrabbler!
Morning, Scrabbler
Ha, my first word was the ke4,11 from your clue, Yoink. My monkey would never have found that one. Fran, you look just like Jamie Leigh Curtis
that's because it is jamie lee curtis! :-)
theme is children's authors today and that's her new career.
Fran, is that up to date in your profile about today's theme being children's authors? Bizarre if it is as there is one in the grid and allowable too
Oh dear, there are 2 S's, and an est......I know, Fran, I was joking with you.
yes yoink
woohoo finished the Ls
I have read some of her kid's books---the one on adoption is very nice.
sorry scrabbler, wasn't sure.
ooh, i need one more ata! any strange ones?
lo5/10 is the strangest!
Roald Da4/6 is in the grid for children's authors day
thanks yoink!
Thanks, Ata. Finished off the Ls too with that one
thanks ata!
sheesh - I hate going back over my word list - but today I am getting plural or singular on every other word ...I may just continue!
you've probably all found it, but dumb ts4/8 in the grid.
So what is the strange LO word?
scrabbler, a female lo?
Why dumb, Fran?
kind of like a female lion
i just don't think of it as an actual word yoink
OK, got it. TY
thanks fran
yw
It can be any of 3 spellings, I've seen all three used
i suppose there has to be a way to write those sounds. :-)
Ah, I found the ts you are referring to.
ts4/4 is preferred by most scholars of Slavic studies as a more accurate transliteration of the Russian and is often found in scholarly writing with reference to one of the Russian emperors.
Just off the top of my head, lol
I knew that already, Yoink. LOL
thank you for that tidbit yoink. the ts4/8 is the word i was talking about though.
off for lunch, later all
bye Yoink, enjoy!
oh! lol, got that too now, thanks
bye Yoink
have to get to bed, almost 2 am!
hope i can get this done tomorrow!
Hi Everyone, was surprised to see you here Fran

Bye Atalante and MM
okay, so now I'm hungry, bbl
so8/55 by the way, as a parting gift!
thanks Ata
I have the so8, clues for the other 8's please
wr6/33 - pin the vowel to the donkey
TY Hazel. Now, clue for the so8??
so8 to make less hard
TY Periwinkle!
th8/45 - to make one's bad intentions clear
anytime, Scrabbler
I have 5 words from that so root now.
thanks Haz
dw8/80 - to be the best of help to Snow White
ea8/40 - where earwigs might stay? Or plural of a characteristic to accompany Frank.
And that is all the 8s that I have so far. But I'm not really here, I'm cleaning....
Hi folks. Somebody mentioned an so8 clue. Is it a long way down the log?
Don't worry, I've just found it.
Hi Haz....ty for those....and hello everyone
I need more help with that ea8, Hazel--my caffeine level is just hitting the therapeutic range
Karys! Hello and welcome back!
thanks Haz, got the dw8 working on the e8
Scrabbler - think of a play, 'The Importance of Being Ea*****'.
Scrabbler - Oscar Wilde wrote a famous play about the importance of being a particular name, similar to the characteristic.
thank you ...it's good to be back !
I take it everything went smoothly?
TY Hazel!!!
Welcome back, Karys.

the BF + i went for a nice long walk yesterday around brunchtime. :)
you can DO IT and you WILL, I know, I sound like a mother
i know i can...i just need to break some old habits... i have a very lazy tendency, and i get discouraged when i dont see quick results...
evan, patience!! you have to have patience...I am really speaking to myself also...just started another diet for the 40th time

evan, you can do it and you will! That is what I keep saying to myself when I look at all the goodies in the supermarket...don't touch!
i hear you there annie! the BF and i are starting an effort to cook at home more -- difficult to do when his house is walking distance from the bars + restaurants! but itll be healthier + better financially as well!
evan, oh dear, move immediately! lol...
can I have a clue for dw8?
thanks for keeping me company with an occasional clue thrown in. I am giving myself a break. 259 down, 76 to go, bbl

woah! A biggy today...
evan, why sad? But stay where you are
just sad because its going to be such temptation!
evan, Am I being dense? what temptation....just stay put
oh dear, I am being a mother!
ive been thinking of moving up to his area for a number of reasons....more social life, closer to him, but mainly for work -- its closer/easier to commute to work from there, plus there are TONS of job opportunities in that area...
evan, lots of good reasons especially closer to work and the job opportunities...the other stuff will come with time.....is it in the DC area or in DC proper... I love visiting DC. There is so much to see and do
annie -- he lives in bethesda
doorbell, bbl
I used to live in DC... up in NE... what a fun place
I'm back,...evan, did you ever think of living in DC?
the idea of living in the city has never really appealed to me...
then bethesda it is.
clue for ea 8, please
ea8 = the importance of being ea......... and then pl, annie
thanks sugar!
yw
breaking news from Michigan: we are having a snow blizzard!!! got to go make beds
tks, sugar. led to a couple more easy but elusive ones!
hi mom23
I have 4 more connected to that one
hi Annie! think it'll rain? more?
mom, it looks like it is going to snow here.
i could only hope for here! i'd rather put up with pretty white than soggy gray. even driving.
so... are we the only ones left that is snowless, that shouldn't be?
I agree but it does not stay pretty white here for long..it becomes slushy grey..ugh
well, then it's time for more white stuff!
we definitely should have had snow by now, not 70 degrees like it was on Saturday
annnnnnnieeeeeeeeeee
smooth, no snow yet in Wisconsin?
oh yeah, I heard about that... saw a picture of sunbathers at coney island
hi nutsyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!
snowless in wisconsin... In northern wisconsin they did have a bunch earleer, but down here in madiosn, not a flake of the stuff
buncha rain here
smooth, that is where I live...I was on the boardwalk and yes, there were out there sunbathing
my aunt in Tom's River said same thing re boardwalk there, annie
yep, a good friend called me from the Newark airport Sat. nite and said it was still balmy there!
nutsy, love your icon...my grandson who does not like to read (he is 8) loves to read Harry Potter, hooray to JKR
oui oui!
sun is finally shining here--we've had rain rain rain gloom gloom gloom . . .
well, it is in the 50's here and dreary
well its horrid here, rainy and foggy and COLD
loud raspberries to Harry's detractors complaining about sorcery, etc. -- real life's almost as bad in some cases!
ata, we need some cold here--my yard looks like March rather than early January!
mom, real life can be much much worse than Harry Potter....I agree with you, a loud Bronx cheer to JKR's detractors....she is marvelous
Fireworks!! Bedtime
it does here too ... crocuses have been out for a month already ...
yahoo anike!
wow, congrats, anike!!
congrats, anike
how many words are in this puzzle guys?????
something is goiing on in NYC, on fox news
335 words
to the TV
o my goodness.lol. thx annie
apparently a widespread gas leak
gas leak, they think, waiting for the mayor to speak
There are reports of a strong smell of gas across large parts of Manhattan in New York. America's Fox News reports that gas can be smelt across the city, including high up in skyscrapers.
something smelly in NYC
hello all ..... this looks as if it is a marathon!!!!
I just get an icky feeling in the pit of my stomach when I hear things like that
A similar smell is reported across the river in New Jersey. Con Edison, New York city's biggest gas supplier, says it has no leaks in its system. Authorities say terrorism is not suspected at this point but they are monitoring the situation.
downtown Austin is closed this morning too, two policemen felt ill and many dead birds
i bet it's some kind of natural thingy
a friend of mine works for the BTP in London, and was first on the scene in their bombing, we knew it was going to happen, just wondered when
I sure hope, and pray it is nut ( :
now i gotta put my news on ...brb
NOTHING on local news.. "across america" on now.. we don't have cable..ty for the h***s up..
okay...they say it's not smelling harmful, but this sucks, cause if they raise the security alert i'll be waiting in line an hour to get into work
good afternoon everybody:)
it's all there is right now on CNN
just read the log ...... hope things turn out ok there in the US ..... OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU.
they say it is the smell of natural gas. they are not ruling anything out as yet but the NYPD says it is not harmful
hi, jean
ty mo, that is sweet of you
thank you, mo...I lost 2 friends in the World Trade Center bombing and was working in the area in 1983 when the first bombing occurred so this is not good news...only when it is over and nothing happens then it is good
weird, we have 10 blocks shut down here in Austin... 2 police officers got sick and many, many birds were found dead this morning. This is Congress Ave., downtown. Hope it's just a coincidence...
gotta run kids. will check news for updates. see y'all later.
wow vp
of course we all know that things are only go to get worse, so we have to be prepared, seems like they are testing that 911 system
vp, hope all is okay....going back to TV in livingroom, bye, mom
I think everyone's antennae start vibrating after 9-11, appreciate the news flashes as there is still nada on the local news
pardon me a few secs
for sure aloy
con ed still says no leaks, but lots of buildings being evacuated
epa is out sampling the air
nobody is panicking tho, that's good
nobody is panicking tho, that's good
yes, that is good... geez, its an abc station, too.. and to watch the smiling anchors talk about trivialities while all this is going on... the "big" story is about a high school student who was killed in a car accident
it's not on our local channel either
not to lessen that tragedy... but don't they know at the news station that stuff is happening nationally?
maybe you should call them ( :
I would bet it's a trial run, not that I am a conspiracy theorist ( : but it certainly could be
I'm sure they are aware.
what's happening?
i have not turned on the tv today
some type of gas cloud in NYC and Jersey
trains are shut down
oh dear
Hazmat teams and DHS are out checking
have people been hurt?
according to NPR, officials are saying that gas pressure levels are safe and that the air is not dangerous
no one taken to hospital, just dizzy and nauseous
yeah and they said that it was safe for kids to go back to nearby schools a week after 9/11 and now they are getting sick...
true
con ed says they don't have any gas leaks
right hurshy
well i hope it turns out to not be very bad.
maybe someone in NYC that babbles will come on and let us have the poop
me too hurshy
i am in CT, i get NYC local news, i can go check if that might help - but it's not the same as on the spot
the odor is gas seems to be dissipating accdg to CNN.
sure, fox is reporting here, they said they can smell it at their studios
they smelled it from Bleecker St. in Soho to Harlem. that is quite a distance
The NYPD, New York's police department, says the gas is not harmful. Mayor Michale Bloomberg is expected to talk about it shortly.
they think it's coming from plants in new jersey
something happened in Austin too, dead birds everywhere
evan, they said the odor originated from Bleecker and 4th Sts...
but I am sure the news reports won't go there, with something happening in NYC
yes, very weird about Austin
just reporting was fox said
got to run will bbl when I am at work hopefully happy babbling everyone:)
i see, it smells like natural gas - it's not like unidentified
yeah seems NJ says it's NY and NY says its NY lol

they are telling people not to ring doorbells, use cell phones if you are smelling it strongly - who knew these things could spark explosions
oh! our rain turned to snow!
interesting, they said it is possible that it's just the odor additive that is leaking, not necessarily the gas itself

hey cait

I think to excel in the craft of life each must know what battles to fight; which is, of course, most subjective.

howdy, BR...
Hi Evan
ooh thanks, T-Owl. I felt terrible not being able to wish everyone happy new year last week.
TO mummers?
yes caitlyn - i believe the custom came from you . it
it's a parade to celebrate the new year, originally tomfoolery with people dresed as "wenches"
Did you have a nice Christmas and New Year Babbler?

Mummers are somehow connected to Morris Dancers or something?

Mo, remember Little House on the Prairie? That was about Laura Ingells Wilder and her family.
she was of scotch descent
woohoo Aloy!
Scottish descent
scotch is a drink. ; )
I always loved Little House on the Prairie
oh yes i know now thanks.
i know, but i thought you could use it that way too
LOL Babbler
no. people get upset.
hmmm, interesting
its like asian -vs- oriental
so it used to be acceptable, but no longer is? it's not a grammatical issue?
Off to take Chopper and Fig Bat to school, back in an hour or so.
exactly right. in the UK, we use asian to mean India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. But in the States, Asian describes Chinese/Japanese
no hurshy. it's incorrect to refer to a scottish person as scotch.
bunny!! Before you go Happy New Year
in the UK, Chinese/Japanese origin is described as Oriental.
i was always taught that PEOPLE are asian, THINGS are oriental...
You to Cait! Byee
no. it's to do with the names of the continents / sub-continents
no. it's to do with the names of the continents / sub-continents
but there is no reason that people can't be oriental other than they don't like it, it is seen as derogatory
FIREWORKS for me
in the US it's to do with political correctness, though, babbler
Congrats inge!!
woohoo Inge!
oriental is derogatory?? first I've heard!!
gotta run to get birthday present and cake for my husband, Bye
Congratulations, inge
well it probably isn't over there! :)
Bye inge
you're kidding, hurshy? that's so ridiculous!!
well, i know, but what are you gonna do?
if anyone is still here refresh to see mummers
blimey.... : /
i dont pretend to know the Whys, i just know thats what i was taught...heh
that's so cool, T-Owl!
i think its because since Items are "oriental" referring to a person that way is like saying theyre just a thing + not a person...
WOW TO that looks like its great fun!
but by the same logic, if i have an asian lamp, asian could be derogatory
Well, the Orient is what used to be called The Far East - (far east from the British Empire), so that's China, Japan and over that way.
if you think grown men dressing up like women and shooting guns are cool lol....
LOL TO
i think it is all about intent. i think at some point people used "oriental" with derogatory intent, and so it became that, just like negro did.
People can twist anything to be derogatory
The term "oriental" originally meant "east of Europe."
its all far east from the US....hehe
Is that what mumming is?
It is eiter a brisith or german based celebration i cannot remember which. these ar omis, the traditional mummers. There are fancies and string bands featuring banjos.
and we're all occidental! :)
hi tor! want to join *wink wink nudge nudge*
just kidding! : D
I'm going to look up 'orient' on wikipedia or something. I'm curious now!
Sure .. I haven't mummed in forever ..
hi Tor-Tor!
Hi tor!!
The term "Oriental" is derived from the Latin word oriens, which is the present participle of "orior": to rise. The implication is that it refers to the rising sun, hence the use of Orient to describe the "land of the rising sun", i.e. the Far East, and is exactly analogous with the Chinese term for Japan. Comparable terms are the French-derived "Levant" and "Anatolia" from the Greek anatole, two further locations for the direction in which the sun rises. The opposite term "Occident" - derived from the Latin word occidens, from the verb "occido": I fall - was once used to describe the western world, i.e. the "land of the falling (setting) sun", but is slowly falling into disuse.
well you get drunk tomarch then party all night after the parade in the streets
yeah one kid didn't even believe me when i told him occidental was a word.
http://www.modelminority.com/modules.p hp?name=News&file=article&sid=183
Fireworks!!
Congrats, caitlyn!
Aren't fenderbenders most frequently, occidental?
Babbler, you're right that anything can be twisted to be derogatory, and unfortunately the term oriental got twisted that way by frequent racist usage, so that now it's contaminated in the minds of many. Did you know that a lot of now derogatory terms for women like slut and hussy started out as neutral and developed derogatory senses much later due to sexist users trying to insult women?
yay caitlyn!
no, I didn't know that jan. It seems strange to try and imagine those words as anything other than offensive
the article i linked to basically said that since "Oriental" stems from the Euro-centric use of the word, some people in the asian community preferred to use the term "Asian" because it didnt define them through European eyes...
that was interesting, evanadine. I didn't know that.
Hussy originally came from the same word as house, and refered to the idea that women spent time keeping house.
it's still confusing to me (as a european) because I have to stop and figure out what someone means when they say 'asian'.
Its like the word gay..used to mean happy and joyful, but now i like the way it is used
jan -- did you know that the word "wimp" derives from a termm simply meaning "woman" ? basically, since people viewed women as weak, "wimp" mean from meaning "woman" to "weakling" s'why i refuse to use the word.
I can still remember when gay meant happy!
hussy - housewife. wow!
gee this game is educational....we learned the driation of the word as well as the french term for "rear"
That's interesting, evanadine. I remember a historical linguistics paper I heard some years back racing a lot of negative terms referring to women to originally neutral terms that developed negative connotations only later. Oddly, the reverse never happened. Or maybe not so oddly.
Hi all, see you're talking about derogatory woids, one of my hobbies. derogatory should be taken to mean that the word is spoken as an insult. It is not the same as "offensive" which means the word is taken as an insult. Most poeple get these two mixed up.
"We've seen the enemy and they is us"
hiya chic!
I can
Temple!
whoops. I can't see the distinction, Gwen. :s
Hi Gwen Hi chic
jan, an excellent point. words associated with women get degraded over time. Good example is governess.
hi chic, hi everyone just arriving
i think the difference is a word not intended as an insult but is taken that was -vs- a word that is intended as an unsult
i think the opposite is interesting - how terms in common usage are actually offensive if one knows the origins of the words.
Hi Babbler and Caitlyn!
babbler: one is spoken to be insulting. the other is heard to be insulting. The intent of the speaker; the reaction of the listener. When an African American calls his friend a nigga it is not supposed to be an insult therefore it is not derogator; however, some guy overhearing it might be offended.
one can choose to be offended by anything. this is a separate function of whether the word was being used as an insult. See?
My brain cells are whirring, Gwen. :s
and then there is semantics...
i am offended by the gubminst spending $BIL on war. War is not derogatory. Is this a better example?
WOW This is interesting tonight...Im going to the bar, drinks anyone?
I've heard some women affectionately call each other 'bitch' or similar and they've not been offended at all, but I hate it. Like that?
semantics: the science of proving that every woid in the English language is ambiguous. LOL
babbler, exactly. you are offended, but they are not being derogatory.
yes cait make it a double please
BABBLER!!!!!!!!!1
ahaaaa
wot? wha'ave I done, Nutser?
hello nut!
*Nutster
So, in the end, the old saw about only opening your mouth to change feet, is a realistic approach to improving global harmony.
one of my hobbies is collecting derogatory woids. Most of them are usually offensive as well.
hey owl...chix, book...just so shocked to see babbler
Hi nut
hey nutty! I just found out there is a town in AZ called Nutt...
you mean pleasantly surprised? or have you fallen off your chair? ;D
ummm, yup. although swearing is a time-honored cultural rite LOL
especially with a grid of this size
i certainly fell off my chair! nutt...hmmm hope i can vacation there
LOL!
chic is it near you?
not too far away; about mid-eastern...
so Gwen, I can use a word in a derogatory fashion, and the other person may or may not find it offensive. Like that?
Gwen its fu to see you use the Welsh flag!!LOL
FUN
whoa cait lol speaking of offensive!
lol! I was thinking that too, TO!
LOL TO!!
babbler, i think you got it, bitch! LOL
i am punch -drunk with 87 word to go...
I HATE that, Gwen! I truly do! (LOL!)
i am an honorary welsh person, being a Gwyneth in real life LOL
Now should I take that as offensive Gwem
What you do is your choice
May I please have a clue for the two st 5,18 pls?
so heres the question...if someone says a derogatory word to me, but i dont find it offensive, doesnt that take the steam out of their choo-choo?
yes, but, babbler, if your best friend said to you, with a friendly smile, "happy birthday, bitch" and you knew she was just teasing you, this would not be derogatory. (Must of course might be highly offensive anyway!)
evan, exactly. this is why w
ahaa!! *light bulb moment*. so the word 'bitch' is just a word, it's the intent behind it that makes it derogatory or not.
dr st5/18 - what is used in a manger
. . . why women say "bitch" or girl or other insulting words, or gay people call themselves queer or fags; they are "relaiming" the word at takiung it away from those who use them as insults
LOL 84 words left and tthe one i was missing was the sa4/4 for "not crazy" ....er "not mentally challenged" lol
dr9397 st5/18 dried grass change the vowel for the other st
i am offeding when poeple call me Gwem LOL
Thanks
Sorry Gwen typing not that good today LOL
so...isnt a derogatory word still derogatory, even if i dont take offense to it?
I'll see all you word 'hos later.....
LOL Chic!
evan, no, derogatory is define by intent of the speaker. There is awhole book about the N word, for example, that goes into this.
hi all, what's going on, is there another bad word in the grid?
LOL chix you bee--yatch...
cute chic!
kth, LOL!
So, if a KKK uses racial epithets directed towards another KKK and in the presence of those he knows likely will be offended, the speaker is not to be excoriated?
Hi kth
so, if you call me the B-word intended it as an insult, but im not insulted by it, its still derogatory because you intended it that way, isnt it?
Kt, how ya been? New Year being good to ya?
just being called a woman or a flight attendant or a restaurant owner can be derogatory if the person is using it to insult you
evan, yep
mostly good thanks siouxz, things are very difficult but starting to look up a little
kth this started (I think ) about a Scottish person being called scotch LOL
kth -- no naughty words, i dont think....we just got into this conversation round-about-ly hehe
i'm not sure i can predict how a KKK person would behvae in any situation dealing with racial epithets.
oh yeah! it did. Scottish / Scotch are not the same thing.
scotch is a drink, not a nationalisty !! LOL
exactly right!
*has moment of deja vu*
you don't even have scotch biscuits or objects or anything. they're scottish too.
yeah, so we started talking about scottish-vs-scotch and asian-vs-oriental...
but if two KKKers are talking together about some racial group they hate, they are probably going to use a lot of derogatory words that will not be offensive to each other
nice sidestep
I finally got my passport forms sent off today for the girls :D
and me TO and me..LOL
May I have a clue for the first th 6/21 and the th 5/12?
do you have scotch eggs? how about scotch tape?
anyway, me back to puzzle for a while, hmm, hmmmm . . .
what about butterSCOTCH...hehe
Kt, one step at a time...good for you!
lol thanks gwen!
scotch tape is a brand name. scotch eggs... you got me!
hmmm butterSCOTCH. :P
hopscotch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_eg g
I'm not scottish!! HOw should I know! lol!
have you guys ever heard of "stirring the pot"? Sounds like you are all giving a stir!
LOL!! scotch egg isn't even Scottish!! It's a London thing! that's too funny!
LOL Siouxx
*stirs intently* hehe
That pot we are stirring is scotch broth
hubble bubble toil and trouble...
so, Siouxz finds the chat offensive even tho not derogatory
butterscotch uses scotch whisky... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttersco tch
speaking of stirring the pot - i guess nut has gone!
i so very much wikipedia. :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopscotch
lol cait!
lol cait!
so very much LOVE, that was supposed to say...heh
oooh Scotch broth doesn't have scotch in it, and it is scottish! an exception to the rule! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_br oth
gee and my mom ate them all the time...fed them to us, too
I'm hungry...
it seems in several cases, "scotch" means a "scratched line"
Does it have lamb in it Babbler
butterscotch, TO? doesn't always have scotch in it.
it says beef or lamb, cait
*phew* thanks i was beginning to worry...
LOL TO!!!
shoot lunch is over.... : (
oh i found a term in the grid that is potentially offensive and could be derogatory dw5/26
I think the alcohol in cooked things mainly boils away before eating. A friend in culinary arts school told me that alcohol is used to dissolve certain flavor components that are not soluable in water or fat, so it does enhance flavor. Then, its work being done, you can boil it away. BTW my mom wouldn't use vanilla in cooking because of its alcohol...
Thats very true TO I dont think its used now as its not PC!!
whatever but i cannot yet find the 8
dw8 is the most ..
ty tor that is weird....
Siouxz is not offended, merely chuckling to herself...
Either that or it's a party with the wee ones ..
not offensive! not derogatory! A dw5 star is a scientific term for a very small star. This has nothing to do with little people! (just an example) Other examples may dw5 in comparison.
vanilla is one of the few useful products of orchids
Unless you count beauty as a use...
hi chj! cait are you bartening? another round please
the are quite beautiful
gee tor - don't they have that somewhere in oklahoma? i think i saw it on the travel channel
Hi chj Hands a very large drink to TO..cheers!!

DW8, EA8, ES8, RA8, TH8 -- whats my last 8?
So
hey, *all* words are potentiall offensive and derogatory! it's all psuckological LOL
May I have a clue for the first th 6/21 and the th 5/12?

Thats just what im drinking at the moment Siouxx ...handing a large drink over..cheers

PO7 is in an agatha christie title, po7 of fate
it's not related to mail but does contain it
It's a back door/gate. Add a letter to the teenager's wall decoration.
yay, got the fo7!
now i know there are just fr's left cause we went over that before
other f 7 is a worry cut
a cut that you get because you are worried?
It's a delicious play on words.

I'm still having problems with the cut part...

my non-phantom word: truthiness: the quality of stating concepts or facts one wishes or believes to be true, rather than concepts or facts known to be true.
Oh yeah? Well you're just a stinky girl ...

afternoon everybody!
hi charm
Hi Charm
hiya charm
Hello Charm!
Hey, lynxxx, krist, gramma
i would like to both thank and curse whichever of my coworkers left the candy bars near the printer with a note reading "ENJOY!"
lol...believe it or not, working from home now has done wonders for my waistline...so much temptation at work (with or without "helpful" coworkers)
evan-sounds like sabotage in the workplace to me...
hi ma, grammaterri
yeah, if i worked at home, id probably cook more, which means i could make healthier stuff...plus, id probably be able to hit the gym around lunchtime, which means i could go more often!
siouxz -- i agree!
sure you would evan...me too
hi gk, hi evan
without an hour+ commute each way every day, i could get SO much more done!
the only bad thing is now I have to wait until I go into the office to pawn off anything I baked and don't want at home anymore :) other than that, I love it!
Y'all are kidding yourselves - you know that???? I'm a stay at home mom. You spend so much time running after the household monsters and doing chores that you get a lot less done. And you're so tired of looking at four walls that you'd do anything for an evening out!
when I wasn't working I wondered how I ever had time to work. now, I've just lowered my household standards and work outside the home.
...and I am blissfully happy...
that's me when I worked, Siouxz! But when you don't work outside, you have to keep a better house. lol
says who?
my unfortunate conscience.
just don't tell it where I live!
=8-)
may I pls have a clue for the ra7/44?
ra7/44 - the condition of not being cooked

Yeah. I'm the germ queen. Dear One has had me locked in one end of the house since Christmas, and just throws food in through the door. I feel like a real hamster. And heaven knows, I'm surrounded by enough kleenex to make it look realistic.
lol - I tried an fo5/16 on a lark, and when it was accepted, I was amazed that the choreographer's name had made it into the dictionary
Same here, Takuma.

just can't see the ta4/5
we had bacon and gypsy toast - lovely
NM
what's gypsy toast?
peri, use the bottom t
what is gypsy toast
bread dipped in beaten up egg and then fried - called french toast or eggy bread as well
peri - its Bert L***
hey ch, who are you today?
Louisa May Alcott, author of Jo's Boys, Little Women, Under the Lilacs, etc....
oh good, excellent!
And most superb choice on your part too -- we can hardly wait for the final book
mmm, french toast
Back, hi everybody
bbl
i'm dying for the final installment...and someones bound to die in it as well
hi M.P.
later, peri
... sorry, but bbl means what?
hi bittong
I'm just hoping it won't be one of the main 3, although I'm willing to lay pretty good bet it will be.
i'd lay a substantial bet on it being one of the three, or a weasley.
hi mp, wb (welcome back) bbl means be back later
I'm afraid she'll have Lord V kill HP but then we find out the two of them have 'merged' and that HP's spirit is the stronger ... thus leaving everyone with some suspicion ...
you really think she'd kill one of the main 3???
howdy folks. still @ work which messes with my chatting.....
Okay ... that shows my knowledge of Babble ... of course, still pretty new
oh, no, ch1212, i can't imagine she would do that.
hi Fiz
lol fiz
good one ch...i think one other thing to think upon, dumbledore died to save harry.
bye everyone, happy babbling!
i thin HP is a hrocrux nad the him and Lord V will die
Absolutely she would, hurshy -- she has built a substantial analogy of HP as sacrificial lamb, PLUS she does not shy away from real life -- she doesn't believe in sugar coating
bye bilt, same to ya, blessings
i hate these super long ones- when i feel like i've found every word I know and there's still100 to go. *groan*
bye bilt!
i'm pretty sure that she's said that harry lives
and ch, the only way to prevent the demand for further installments is to kill harry
Good thought, evanonut --- that would dovetail nicely with the sacrifice theme
do you feel that Dumbledore is really dead - he had a withered hand and it reminded me of Peter who was the rate and in the employ of snape
Ah, but 'lives' in what manner? Mmmm.... :)
well, i was thinking of the love/magic protection like he had from lily
but won't he live always in our memories?
yeah but fiz the last 100 makes ya brain work ( :
great question, kazzer -- I'm positive we haven't seen the last of Dumbledore, though I don't think she would pull a Gandolf
gramma my brain was working on the first 235!
she's also been setting up bellatrix for something big i think
and HI FIZZZZZZZZ
Or an Obi Wan
lol fiz
I want Harry to live! But maybe he'll have to give up his magic powers, or something. Maybe he'll get his mind erased to kill Voldemore. Ir maybe he'll just strangle the guy.
nutty butty! how's the keystone state?
dumbledore will hand in the headmasters office.
dumbledore will hand in the headmasters office.

At an appearance in New York in August, 2006 Jo added some more hints... * Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, who was murdered in Half-Blood Prince, has an important role in the final book - even though he is dead... * Severus Snape (played by Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter films) is actually a good character. * Harry's aunt, Petunia Dursley, will have a very important part in the final book. * Not said at the reading, but strongly implied... Harry, Ron and Hermione will survive book seven. * Rowling is still thinking up the title for the final book. * Stephen King, reading from his work at the same New York benefit, asked whether Harry Potter’s rival Draco Malfoy would be redeemed. Rowling answered that all her characters except Lord Voldemort, “appear redeemable†and that Harry firmly believed that Draco Malfoy was not evil. * JKR added that book seven will explain the deep connection between a wizard and his wand. There is a rumor that Harry may die in book 7...An article in the UK's Mirror reveals, "Actor Jim Dale - the voice of the teenage wizard in the US audio books - believes the seventh and final installment will spell the end for Harry." Yet Jo seemed to nix that idea when answering questions in New York.
wuzzup tor?

Roses to all who have finished today
have heard of it, but never visit. I've been trying (with support from friends) to abstain from too much digging about seven to avoid any preconceptions, but this place gives just enough to allow me to sleep at night
um, dw's, anyone?
Congrats Dipp! And any others who have finished. :)
Small people or stars, cliff ..
thanks - after the day I've had the roses smell lovely!
Cliffopa, Snow White's pal or one of the 7

Sorry you had a lousy day.

Loved her books, btw
Thanks for sticking out for me not at all offended I'll check for any comments every day
OOh helen I just read your biog and it made me cry
ch - me too! but instead you used - who IS that?
Louisa May Alcott ... believe it or not, I was a Junior Rose Princess, and my gift from the PTA in 4th grade was a copy of LIttle Women. But they argued because they wanted to give me a set of Beverly's books!
yw m.p. got a 14 year old son myself. he may be big but still worry about him online
ch, the lights are on, but nobody's home.... :(
kazz - sorry to make you cry (i cry at all kind of weird times now)
okay Lori, take your fr4/7 (first word) and then add the last two letters of the yellow fruit whose skin kids love to peel
I think with me its anything remotely sad and it sets me off - i cried in the Lion King but i went by myself so that was a bit embarassing
No more for me - give up with 44 left. Night all

this game is designed to make me sleep deprived lol
First it was fron NYC then from NJ, then it was a chemical that gives natural gas the smell, then not...

Enable? What's that? Is that Babble's word find place?
Sefo Dias
For ex., little man+est(eight letters)=not a word
I rely mostly on babblers clues, today I found a word in atoz that babble wouldn't let, tho it is a link from here
Gotta go, the ancient one is calling, Happy babbling all

Hi M.P. Yes, I wasn't 'in theme' this morning - too eager to Babble.
WA5/18 after the WA7/44 and before the WA5/18 liquid? Please.
Today's grid was great fun to do; lots of words and none of them too hard to find.
Hi gramma
hk, good choice on icon
So, you're done, close to it, what?
Howdy!
gramma plural of a virus that grows on your skin
M.P. - me? I finished all but one by UK lunchtime & came back for the final word at 11.30am grid time.
Me? Heck no! I'm just jumping about. I still need 40 words.
hiya nuttttt! & tx
good afternoon/evening, everyone -- a little slow today?
Is Haz Chief Cluer at the moment or is she still finishing? Haz??

Don't think you're doing badly. I'm at my best ever so far, but only 90 words.

gramma -- ones who wa 5/18

Your Welcome
how many letters, jacula?
ty nan. I'm so flustered. I can't seem to get it. I'll move on and come back to it later.
nan - wr + silly person or donkey + vowel.

Sorry nan - the fish is wr6/30.
ty, jacula
that was the one I was missing
y/w, nan.
MP, what shows do you like? or do your parents not let you watch much TV?
I don't watch much myself, but if you know of it "Extreme Makeover Home Edition."

yes, i know of it - comes on right before desperate housewives :)
Yeah
gotta go make dinner - still 26 to find - bbl
gramma - No need to be flustered. Let's go through the wa7/44's - The first (which is the first word in the 'wa' list) is Scottish for 'smallness'. The 2nd = idlers or trashers. The 3rd = those who tell you to take heed of approaching dangers (or the name of a film company & a travel company).
well, dare I dive in to this huge grid at this hour???? And, Hi, ALL!
See you, Hell. xx
pam - You'll do it easily in the time left. It's a fun grid.
LOL, jac. You know I am an inveterate dabbler!
pam - LOL. Perhaps you should change your name to DabblerBabbler?
roflmao!
Jacula, ty for your patience. I'm fixing a little toddy and going out for a breath of not so fresh air. Th** I'll come back a better person.

Hi Ping.
Hi Ping and Pam and Jacula and aknitter

I havent seen you forever
I kicked the W's and I'm ready to relax and play now. Sorry about me earlier. When I start soo late and face a big grid, sometimes I lose sight of the fun.
Welcome back, gramma.

I miss chatting with you guys since I went back to work!
Jacula, can't figure out your clue :(
well Im happy to see you welcome to the grid.....ROFLOL
Try adding the first letters of the Camelot King to the preceding th4/5 for the th6/21
Jen, work isn't good for you. Take it from me. I never worked and now I have 3 jobs.
peri - okay. Try this: now and 'th**' + King of Camelot.
Great minds, Jacula - see my clue below (7.02)
Oops, Haz. So I see!
that th seems to be stupidhead.....
Mind you, Haz., you clued it better than me. Poor peri might be trying the whole of the king's name from my clue.
Hi all
But will peri be on the same wavelength?
it IS stupidhead: 1. the fleshy mass of the outer side of the palm of the hand. 2. the fleshy prominence or ball of muscle at the base of the thumb.
but thanks for the clue!
hi, mp
pam - It's not silly, it's a medical word. Wait until you get to the chemical words! LOL.
Not to worry got the th6 thanks for the help
LOLOL, jac
(e5/10 & e8/40, for instance, Pam.)
I never knew what my fleshy mass was called (other than disgusting) but now I do.....
and, this was the easiets 107 words I have ever babbled, maybe this grid isn't a bear after all!
lol, haz
Haz - why is the base of your thumb 'disgusting'? Have you been helping hubby at a birth??;)
peri - glad you got it.

feel like taking a break for a speed round of scrabble? i'm trying to stay awake long enough to go to bed.
okay! one game sounds good
awesome.
Quick story about my Mum's pink Grass Parakeets... She has a pair who are in a v. large cage with 4 budgies. Pinky & Perky (the parakeets) apparently love watching TV and sit there, square-eyed long after the budgies have tucked their heads under their wings. Mum watches CSI Crime Investigatio or some such late night programme. She'd watched one in which a woman repeatedly yelled, 'He's a rapist!' Now, when the male (Perky) chases the female (Pinky) around the cage she 'says', yes, you've guessed it... 'He's a rapist! He's a rapist!'
LOL Feather
Very funny Jacula :)
OMG TOOOOOOO funny
see you all in a little bit

Hi Dorens. It may be big but it's not mean.
hi, dorens
I'm here to clue, so ask if you need anything.
thankful for that jac, I have a book to finish tonight for tomorrow's book club, but need to finish this first (major compulsion)... hi pam, ping... will ask i'm sure in a few minutes
what book?
hello everyone
What book, Dorens?
hi, kalea
hiya pam
doren, was is the book you are reading?
LOL Pam. Word greedy to a woman, we Babblers.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Hi kalea.
hi kalea.... snowflower and the secret fan (and we're meeting in a private dining room of a good local Chinese restaurant for dinner)
hiya jac
hiya Dorens
heard it is a good book! Am reading Heat now....
also read water for elephants for my other book group and really enjoyed it a lot!
i heard that one was good
good to know, had heard of that one, Dorens
i just finished Kiterunner
haven
I've been having a sort out of my (too) many books this evening. I'll send those I can bear to part with and know I'll never dip into again to the local hospital for them to sell. The rest will be boxed up in the attic until such time as I (roflol) have a spare room to turn into a proper library with a real log fire, squashy armchairs and a bay window with a seat on the sill.
heard of heat... who wrote it? Kiterunner was one of my favories from lastyear
am i the only one who finds i'm reading far far less these days, thanks to this insane compulsion?
Dorens - I was reading a write-up on Wa5/18 For Elephants on Sunday. It looks interesting.
lol Jac......i had to do that when i moved.......my new hubby refused to rent an extra truck just for my books
WOW! Done!!! Phew!!
woooooooooohoooooooooooooooo jilli........i still have 3 left
Dorens - same here due to Babble, but I've been trying to keep up my reading (which I love) as well in recent times.
i'm curious to hear what others thought of it... we meet later this month. haven't read reviews... just know that I loved it. one of those you don't want to finish, youknow?
YAY JILLI!
Well done, jilli! What were your last 5?
yay, jilli! CONGRATS

still don't know what it means! lol.
i understand pam. still... when you are feeling stronger...it was an excellent view on things i hadn't seen otherwise, and wouldn't have
not even in dictionary.com link from the word list
bah
it was emotionally draining, pam, but as you get into the story, you can't give up on the characters
kalea--i don't have the emotional strength right now. I am on the Carl Hiaasen and Janet Evanovich level of emotional commitment to books. Soon, maybe, i will be far along enough in my healing
th 7 32 please
nope entrop- bah is only three letters. :)
But, I read daily, on my commute, and whenever I can, so I must say the addiction to babble is not preventing this...

Duh, thanks Jacula. Brain dead tonight
peri do you work full time too?
I've got 3 books and 2 magazines on the go re4/5ingwise in various parts of the house.

ar6....pl, mountain ridge
yup. it's a killer grannyg... i'm down to 10 and not much patience left
my long committee meeting was canceled to night - the chairman has the flu(?) - I think she just wanted to watch the game
me too, I need 136 more, but I think I'm going to go watch the football game for awhile
gwenski - kids NEVER take all of their stuff. My Other Half and me were discussing that a while ago... how our parents turned up and dumped loads of our 'old junk' on us just when we'd got our new homes al nice.
kalea I just tried that and it was not accepted, but tried it again after your clue and it was, very frustrating
I'm down to 124. getting really frustrated.
thakns kalea

Most of the stuff in my attic isn't mine.

You can't have that much more to pack - do you???
no need to be sorry Granny -- made me closer to the halfway mark
lol Jac.......i had that problem til i moved out of the country
No, not really. But, I want it done so we're not panicking on the 29th!
Plus this computer is moving really slow tonight.
Yeah, I can see your point.

Every time I'm about to quit, I have a run on words! Then I feel I must stay...

hi merk, MP, kalea, Dorens, Pam.... et al!
hiya stid.......nice to see you again
Hey, Stid. You were the last one I chatted with before I left here last week!
stidmama!!!!!!!
Merk, it goes fast. I have spent about 1 1/2 to 2 hours on it. I did it in 15 minute spurts
yep. I was. Did you friend like Babble?
hard to say merk.. half hour this morning... maybe45 minutes late afternoon.. and now about an hour
no more than 3 hours for sure
can someone clue teh an 6/7 combo, please?
stid... i love almond cake... pass some over, please
merk, i think in all total, i've probably worked a couple of hours on this one
Merk, a lot of plurals so that helps
but i think i will sit here and look at these last three for half an hour more
*slices almond cake for everyone who's here* I think it would go well with a chocolate frosting, if anyone has some made!
Yes, she did. I am sure she'll visit here again. We were doing it to save boredom at the Seoul airport.
an + over yonder minus last letter
how long did you have to wait? and are you glad to be back in China?
thanks kalea
thanks stid... had berry torte with dinner tonight ( one of my many celebratory late birthday dinners), so will pass on the chocolate frosting.. bad enough i am having two desserts
who's in china?
ah merk, just read the profile... fascinating...
MMMMMM. that sounds really good too (what would berry torte be like with an almond cake for the base?)
and fireworks!!!!!!!!!!!
Woooo Hoooo, Kalea
YAY kalea!
Congrats and roses for Kalea
congrats kalea
(it tasted kind of almondish, now that i think of it... with a layer of pastry cream below the berries0
yay kalea!!!!!!!!
Yahooo kalea!

did you have a good weekend catching up with your kids?

Ignore that please--monkey is acting up.
did that one work Scrabbler?
yes, it was great Pam. They took their first ice skating lessons this weekend and they were so cute!
first re 6/18 clue please
Ohhh, fun!!!!!! I never mastered stopping without slamming into the wall, LOLOL
and we did a bunch of other stuff, too--playground, movie, reading books together, art projects
No, it didn't work--I am never sure which chemical words work and which aren't accepted.
yippee! gray P! *wicked grin*
lol stid.........hubby took me out to dinner tonight.....lol, to mcdonalds
How romantic, kalea!
yeah, I don't know how to skate myself. they picked it up quickly though.
i know you missed them a lot--sounds like a nice weekend

Was off talking to my son. Sorry if anyone asked anything whilst I was away.
and now to see how many pages I can read of snowflower and the secret fan before falling asleep. OH ! roses! thanks mom
Yay dorens
you're welcome Dorens
I gotta go, with 93 still to do :-( thanks for all the clues!
happy reading and sweet dreams, Dorens
later Dorens, sweet reading dreams :-)
It does sound fun, Natasha!
later kanga!
yes, good reading, Dorens
take care, kanga
Whilst you were gone we found out that kalea's husband took her out to MacDonald's tonight for dinner! Does Paul ever do that for you Jacula?
pam, my son is really interested in greek myths these days and at the playground he was climbing up the slide and then slipping back down before he got to the top. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was pretending to be sisyphus.
Bye Kangabrat. Bye Dorens
OH MY, that is SOOOO neat, Dorens. he is not even 8, right? I am impressed
I used "whilst" in a sentence!
lol Natasha..............i love Greek mythology myself..........but what a neat imagination your son has
you sure did Scrabbler! *worried checks Scrabbler's forehead for fever*
lol Scrab
nice going, scrabbler!
they both have a great imagination--maybe it was good to keep them away from the TV after all!
i wonder if any of the other mothers heard him and thought he said syphyllis
lol
methinks you were on to something there, natasha
I'm turning British!
*falls off chair laughing at wurdy*
come on you were all thinking it
lol, wurdy--we were alone at the park in the 39 degree temps.
balmy there in madison, eh?
well, yes, for this time of year!
we actually had some snow in MI today
low battery got to go
we have had very warm temps here in MA
I was still freezing, though. wuss here<-------
take care, wurdy
It's been snowing here today--I came into the woods behind the snow plow tonight.
lucky you, scrabbler
its been snowing a LOT here........but temps are nice
cool, Scrabbler! fresh snow is lovely (though I hate to be out in it) -- old snow, not so nice.
you like the snow, then Pam
how much is A LOT kalea? *worried about Jill driving to the library*
umm, no, to be truthful I LOVE it, Natasha
It is quite beautiful and I am eager to cross-country ski in the woods!
jilli is about 10 hours from me, stid
scrabbler - email update for you
LOL, I like to look at it but can really do without it. Not sure why I seem to always end up living in snowy states
Erm... how do I put this? If Paul ever subjected me to any kind of Big Mac for 'a meal out' I would leave him. (I might also come back to kill him then.)
Cross-country is SO MUCH FUN! the only skiing I can do with my knees. I might get to do some this winter.
'tis something to consider, natasha!
lol Jac
Good luck to all. May those who want to finish finish and those who want to make it halfway make it. Good night all. As an addict, I'll be back tomorrow for another fix.
night, mom
night Mom......sweet dreams
??? OH! Kalea, I got you confuseded with Kahlua, whose mother and grandmother are up in the islands with Jill! *embarassed look*
Jacula--the Big Mac will kill him.

Hi stid. I posted your snail mail yesterday.
rast
Thank you Stid. How sweet
oops....
not to worry, stid
wow Tink! are you gonna survive? do you need extra blankets? LOL
Cool! I am so eagerly anticipating the arrival of said package! :-)
Sorry, Kalea, but we prefer to cook for ourselves. Horses for courses, eh?
lol Tink...........the only sunburn i've ever had was in Florida
I'll probably through an extra comforter on the bed, but noheat on yet.
lol Jac
jac, please send me a package too?
I can send it on to you if you like Ping -- save Jac the postage! (that is a for-real offer)
food that you cooked and some wonderful books, maybe?
My son found muscles he didn't even know he had whilst skiing, husky sledding, reindeer driving etc., in Finland.
Hey everybody!
hiya matt
hello stidmatt - it's stidping here!
Ping - if you give me your snail mail address through Babblers' Anonymous ez mail, I'd be happy to send it to you.
hi kiddo -- you are noted as being online without asking...
OOH! That handsome dog in Stidmama's Icon is our dog Lucky!
ping, you're a stid too??
May I babble?
lol
i'm not sure how to do that jac, but i will try
looks like she is NOW! LOL
Down to 95 - and I'm stopping for tonight. I'll be back tomorrow for another fun filled grid
hurshy, tonight, yes - i need extra fortitude
night, grannyg
and if you're in georgia - the country - it's WAY past your bedtime
See ya tomorrow granny!
Stid - none of the 3 e-mail servers I have would support sending 7,020 words plus lots of pics. I must sort out a preferred site to post it all on.
sweet dreams, granny
only until dinner is ready -- then you log off and TURN OFF... got it? (witnesses take note)
good night grannyg!
Hi stidmatt!
Okay, I hope stidhat takes a long, long time for dinner.
hurshy--I replied to your e-mail.
Hi stidmatt.
how many dw's are there
and are they all elated
Being a bit of a rebel are you, Matt?
oops related
3
and yes
wurdy - ever so tempted to say 7, but there are only 3.
we are all elated
thanks for pointing them out wurdy -- I am elated they were all related! It was my first 8...
lol
having trouble fiindingthe 8
wurdy - they may well be elated, related or inflated, once they see Snow White.
yes, thanks, wurdy!
the most dw...
got it
scrabbler - LOL
warter, that sooooooo should be a word!
hubby home from choir practice.........be back later, maybe
what would it mean?
Yes, hurshy--I thought you would like that. Now DA Jack McCoy is awaiting your report.
One who inflicts wa4's?
later kalea!
wats an 8 letter 1 4 2day?????????
Help! I have 2 left. Both FR's and I don't have a clue where to even start looking.
lol im just doing really
Or the UK Somerset way of saying the liquid wa5/18 (H2O).
bad
i need an avatar
HI everyone....can anyone please help me with the fr7/56 please? Thanks....signed lost in babblonia
gramma - one rhymes with the green stuff that you mow
dont fr** my pet
i'll probably go watch him in 10 mins :)
Hey JeeWhiz!
hi jee
fr7 = worry + cutting tool for wood
HI stidmatt...long time no see you.
woo-hoo! halfway in 45 minutes! off to finish making dinner. Scrabbler and Hurshy -- you are in charge of stidmatt -- feel free to give him lots of algebra problems!
no wonder I couldn't monkey that one...thanks hurshy
fr7/56 - the tree cutting device that worries?
Hi Ping
Good for you, hursh. I need a few more to hit halfway then I can join my man, Mr REM, in bed.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I wann babble! *whine whine sniff sniff*
got it, thanks Jacula
TY Jacula--new word for me!
Notice stidmama didn't leave ME in charge of stidmatt. I would have set him language problems.
wow stidmatt, your mom is tough!
i don't see a tree cutting device?
I know.
stidmatt, if y = 5x + 2, state the equation of a line parallel to this line and containing the point (1, 12)
maybe you would SEE it in the past ping?
Ping, TY I didn't have that 1. I'm afraid I may have made my cocktail a little too strong. I can't even keep up w/the chat log.
12=5(2) +2
OK, Matt. a + 4(x + y)= z, and b=6(y-a), then what is the asymptote of the parabola?
sorry couldnt resist math
y=10x+2
look up ping
hurshy and scrabbler, take this chat to sudoko!
Ping - 'see' past tense is 2nd part of the fr (worrying device) word.
u 2 wordy
For 1st part of word - think guitar neck bumps.
sorry
not quite, matt - you need to change the y-intercept, not the slope. parallel lines have the same slope.
just trying to belong
thanks jac!
got it
Matt--you may use a calculator.
Well done, ping!
good suggestion ping...we have enough to fr4 about with 335 words and only 3+ hours to go
note that scrabbler's problem is complete nonsense. :)
I don't think I have got to parabola's yet.
you're one of us, wurdy, for better or for worse...
What are they?
did pam leave?
unfortunately, hurshy, they were all nonsense to me :(
thank you I feel so much better
hi natasha
parabolas are shaped like a sort of a big "U", and are described by equations of the form y = ax^2 + bx + c
No, it is higher math. LOL. I cannot believe that I once did differential equations and linear algebra!
{{wurdy}}
running on low battery so if i leave not being rude
aww a hug I like hugs
Are you a math teacher, hursh?
but scrabbler, how can a parabola have an asymptote?
Matt - I have no idea what Scrabbler and Wurdy just said, nor do I care. I am old enough not to care about numbers unlesss they affect my finances. And I've been to bank today and sorted long-standing problem out and got lots of money back off them, thank you very much.
more than half!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now, I can stop and go to my book whenever the mood strikes!
linear equations are fun. I am on to Chapter 4 right now in Algebra 1.
hey ping, how's it going
wurdy, my brain is now on low battery, but we will forge on til it's truly dead, won't we?
good going, Jac
i tutor now - taught calc and precalc last year
ah, it's going - you?
Love words, HATE numbers. If I win the lottery, please write my cheque out in worda.
i have to know how much time I have before low batttery is cited and the time it goes dead
Yes, even though it is mor fun to be in full blast JW.
about the same ping. we clearly live such exciting lives!
Hursh--I totally made up those equations and don't remember an asymptote from other as**** but asymptote is fun to say.
Did someone just say linear equations are fun??? Proof that aliens live among us. *adjusts tin foil skull cap for maximum protection*
i'm inclined to agree
have that same problem with gas gauges...I need an idiot light that talks to me..."hey idiot get to a gas station now you've milked this far enough"
I almost majored in math---I love numbers!
well *i* know you made up that equation, but i wanted everyone else not to feel so stupid by pointing it out? :)
how many se 6's and 7's?
It was me.
I think it is fun that you can chart a problem on a graph and it is just plain cool! (to my mind, which is nerdy and crazy.)
good for you stidmatt! math IS fun and you keep right on thinking so. (did you figure out the right answer to the problem i gave you?)
OK, halfway--that would be 1/2 or 0.5 or 50%---LOL, sorry. Matt---Nerds rule!
Yes, I wrote it down in the blog pretty quickly. We were doing stuff like that just today!
Well, more power to you Stidmatt. I envy anyone that can to higher forms of math. Personally, I'm mathlexic. If that's even a word.
no stid, your answer in the chat was not it - you need to change the y-intercept, not the slope. parallel lines have the same slopes as each other.
Yup, that
I heard a word in 'Wire in the blood' today that reminded me that Babblers have never yet been subjected to the word 'lachyrmose'. It's an la10/140, I think.
do you have a blog, stidmatt?
right scrabbler.
Matt---I saw a kid today in the office and his name, for real, is Anakin! LOL!
mathlexic that is funny...I am a whiz at percetnages and equations as long as i can relate it to shopping
Yes. My blog is http://stidmatt.livejournal.com
SWEET!!!
OMG! You know your parents are geeks if your name is "Anakin". Does he have a sister named Leia?
That is so awesome. I have never met a single person in my life who's name is Anakin.
A dog named "Chewbacca"?
You would be shocked at the names parents choose for their kids!!
he shouldn't have a sister - a daughter named leia, someday, sure...
I have met a cat named chewbacca!
Time for dinner! See ya later
missing 3 s's from the top -- have 1 se 7 and 2 se 6's - are there more?
thanks, matt, i will check it out
enjoy!
Recent ones: Infinitous; Genesis.......OK, off to bed!
+Hi, this is my first time here. A quick question...do all the letters get used?
I recently heard of kid in first grade named Hisroyalhighness....How would you lilke to have to learn to spell that, and then have to live with it the rest of your life?
good heavens, that's awful
probably goes by royal I had a boss with that name
most definitely horrible!
Yes, corbinmom---there is always one word that contains every letter.
not always, corbinmom, but today they all get used at least IN something, though not all as the first letter of something.
tomorrow, all
night, pam
unfortunately he was short and suffered from napolean syndrom
happy reading!
Way to apply math to real life, Wurdygirl. Fortunately, English was/is my strong suit.

scrabbler - haven't you seen those grids where a J is buried in the corner surrounded by consonants or something?
evening everyone - been enjoying the chat :) may I have a clue for the ae6 ?
3 x asking: missing 3 s's from the top -- have 1 se 7 and 2 se 6's - are there more?
Tonight's challenge is we25--anyone find it yet?
Thank you!
yes cnan, more 6's
Some words are constipated with consonants, others with vowels.
Don't have it, Scrabbler. Howzabout a clue?
four se6
it's weskcestanrerfoplhawdntno!
It ends in "er" Judi.
nan, impressive that you're doing THIS ONE without the list!
Close, hursh--just change a few letters and you'll have it.
Am I to assume that's a We5/25?
se 6? have one who cooks meat, one who puts another in a chair and government body -- missing?
oh, then it must be weskceopontndwahlfstanrer!
hi everyone!
no word of any length can be 25 points.
ha ha hurshy!
Speaking of names chosen by parents - there was an army (UK) general on the news earlier who got a gong for bravery... his given name was 'Richard Head'. Work out what his men and schoolmates called him! I told my Other Half that his parents must be sadists for calling him Richard with that surname, but then I saw his mother, Julia, on the the news and guesssed she had NO idea.
Hi TO.
hi TO
After the fraternities, the fr5/16? Please put me out of my misery.
se + conflict, pl
HI Temple
Yes, hursh, you found it! It has German origins, of course, but Dictionary.com does not have the definition.
there is no we5/25 in this puzzle
i am sooooooooooo good
Hi everyone
thanks, hurshy -- had the sing. too!
fr5 is an alt sp of the first fr6
Duped! Scrabbler said there was a We25.
hey jacs - i know several dick heads...once worked for one
yes, we25 as in, start at the top and use all the tiles :)
Perwinkle--we are joking about a mythical we25, using every tile.
is a joke
oh, I see
Hey Owl, I once worked for 7 dick heads. All lawyers, of course.
42 left -- caving in!!!
My boss is named Dick Head too!
i had a substitute teacher once in 6th grade named dick ice...you can imagine how that went over.
and as i said, no word of any length, with any letters, can EVER equal 25 points.
lol judy!
wow natasha - why hadn't he changed it???
I don't know, you'd think he'd go by his middle name or something!
Greetings Babblers, can someone clue the first wa7/44? I am totally stuck on that one!!
What can I say, Hurshy. I fell for the gaseous anomoly that was rumored to be we25.
bbl, dinner

Judi, you took the bait and we caught you.
God bless you hurshy and good night all. I'll be a better person tommorrow

stidmama, I am so glad you like it, it is one of my favorite cakes.
Hi everyone, firewords...finally
ooooooooh i love almonds...with almond paste?
Can someone give me a clue to the "K" word?
Congrats lbd
Hi TO, I worked for a couple too. One WAS called Richard and he finally decided he was 'gay' and so left his wife and 2 kids. But the first wasn't a Richard, he was a Mike McG (Irish) chap who decided, just afte the 70s IRA bombings in Birmingham (UK) to sit back, whilst we (rest of us in company) were still reeling with the shock, and say' They deserved it!' He never got his comeuppance, other than us lot walking out of the office, but the poor Irish loo cleaner, Kay, got ignored by most folks who had once passed the time of day with her. I found her crying in the corner and asked what was wrong. She told me. Sometimes, I despair! Folks sometimes accuse people most wrongly - our office manager, Mike, was from N. Ireland (where the bombers came from), Kay was S. Irish. Totally different accent. But, even if she HAD sounded like the Rev Ian Paisley when she spoke, that DID NOT mean she was personally responsible for, or even supported the terrorist activity in our town.
ke4/11
me too (now) peri! All I have to do at this point is find a way to afford all the almond paste! LOL
Well done, lbd!

Yep, he was Ricky Linderman
that was a movie shot in chicago about a guy that acts as a body guard to a kid who lived in a hotel in chicago to protect him from bullies
Adam Baldwin/Barlow is a Coronation Strret charactet to we in UK.

hi everyone - I want to get the last 8 before I quit for the night. I've got e x2, r,s,t. What am I missing?
5 refreshes for the 'log not responding' thingey at very least.
hi K.E.!
I took latin in junior high. sure had a great teacher and that certainly helped my English! (although you couldn't tell by my typing!)
I studied Latin, stidmama. I was cr*p at it,. but it's served me well since re crosswords, word puzzles, Babble, gardening, medical stuff.
dw8 KE
dw8.80 KE
What is the "monKey" some of you refer to??
SMD, random typing of letters
dw8 = the most small.
my mom TOLD me to take latin as a second language - i refused, i regret that now
that's when we just keep typing letters and hope something comes up that works!
we all have a little monkey, typing away randomly, SMD, who occasionally happens upon a bit of lovely prose, poety or even a grid word or two!
it refers to the idea that if you put a bunch of monkeys in a room they would eventually come up with the works of shakespeare/
my monkey responds to chocolate, praise and (only occasionally) threats
The 'monkey' is the thing responsible for random typing that hoists up grid words.
oh, with typewriters of course.
OH!! So that is what I have been doing! I thought it was just random typing hoping a word would fall out!!
16 to go
hi helen!
go hk go!!

well, if you don't count the two blizzards, one snowstorm and a huge windstorm (excess of 100 mph gusts) in the past 3 weeks and a huge cold front + more snow on the way, the weather's fine!
