I managed to have a bad back just before Christmas (used to be called slipped disc, now boringly called lower back pain) but lots of physiotherapy got me well enough to tackle Christmas. It's not perfect yet, though. I can get dressed myself now, which is a mercy for all concerned!!

so then i thought i would go back to tutoring, but that it would be better if instead of the students paying extra for help and just me helping a few, i would like to have a drop in service so i could help more kids, and help those who really WANTED help. so i suggested this to the headmaster and he thought it was a great idea but the budget was already set for the year.

so, he wants to pay me but can't at the moment, and i'm not sure when or how much i might eventually get. and i am very determined that students should not be prevented from getting help because of money.

that's very kind and altruistic Hursh, but some compensation needs to be rewarded to your efforts! it has a lot to do with our self-esteem.
hurshy, I think you did the right thing -- the more so as I think it is to your own benefit as well as that of the students and the school -- to be a tutor, which you are good at and enjoy. But lbd is right that getting paid for something gives you a very tangible sense of being valued, even if you don't get paid much.

when I was isolated from mom-duties with two young children, struggling with anxiety and post-partum deprssion it was really hard. that was about ten years ago...

I found that reaching out online -- volunteering at non-profit websites -- worked a bit, but it was when I started heading out occasionally and meeting up with friends again that I started to see my life in more positive ways.

Hursh, it's hard but it's necessary to have that human contact that isn't absorbed in academics or raising kids. and that's all what the boarding school is about. it's a wonderful concept, but it has a heavy toll on the adults that work in them

in Reggio Emilia (in the heart of the region) they served the cheese just shaved onto a plate as a starter. that's the best way i think.
I made a coconut chicken curry over saffron rice, last night... the flavor was great!

pappa--my husband had long hair before I met him. He was in the Navy when we first started going out so clean shaven. Now that he's retired and can do his own thing again, he keeps his hair on his head fairly short but his beard is down to his chest!

Yes! My husband is a Harley rider too. So funny looking going down the road because the beard gets caught in the wind and sort of splits in two and wraps to either side of his face.
