i wouldn't say all the grids are easy, jilli...but i find it fairly easy to breeze thru 90% of it within a few minutes...then it's just a matter of looking at the letter tiles and word length tiles to try different combos

oh! yes! vet! jes - may I have a word of advice? I'm looking something up right now. Is it worth buying official vet glucosamine (I can get seraquin for £29 a pack) from my vets, or are just normal glucosamine / chondroitin tablets just as effective (eg about £5 per pack!)

nutritional supplement does not equal drug, so the FDA doesn't monitor them.

Don't know how much i'll be around in the next month or so. Hello all who came in while I slipped out for critter care.
jilli - wish i could tell you what's going on, but i have no idea nor do any of the doctors i've been to. Been sick for about 6 years now (since i was around 20) with an undiagnosed illness. Been diagnosed plenty but it's never right nor has any medication/treatment helped out. Kinda took a year off of going to doctors as i was frustrated, but gonna go back and try it again.

the funny thing to me about all of it is that before 6 years ago, the only time i'd ever been in the hospital was when i was born. Then at 20, I had to have surgery on my head and a few months after that is when I got sick, so been in and out of doctors' offices/hospitals non-stop since then, lol

something with my tongue/throat. The tongue looks like oral thrush (but isn't, as i've been medicated for it already with no luck); presents as a white coating and is very dry all the time. My throat is always dry as well and it almost feels like I'm swallowing my throat constantly, if that makes any sense.

The really weird part of it is the way I have to hydrate myself. I know it's medically impossible, but for whatever reason, water dries me out completely while soda at least sort of hydrates me. I know it's supposed to be the opposite and everyone I tell that to thinks I'm nuts, but it's true. Anything more than a few sips of water, and I feel like I'm drinking liquid sandpaper, which is odd considering that the year before I got sick, all I ever drank was water for the most part as I was on a huge diet at the time.

i wouldn't be too surprised if the syrup does help, as when i've eaten anything in the last 6 years that has syrup on it, it doesn't seem as bad with the throat after effects.
jilli - as for what kind of diet, it wasn't anything specific; just a regular diet. I started eating less, drinking lots of water, and working out/exercising on a daily basis.

Fran - no, i don't watch discovery or the health channel. It's weird, but before all this happened, i could watch pretty much anything on tv, but now if i even see anything remotely that has to do with the tongue/throat, or even the mouth for that matter, i feel weird. I think to an extent, a lot of this is psychosomatic, as I seem to be prone to worse symptoms the more I think about it, but seems almost non-existent if I keep myself busy with something else (hence the word games).
nono... i diagnose tapeworms almost daily, so you'd think i'd recognize the word :P

The most recent diagnosis I had was hyperkeratosis. I won't lie, a lot of the symptoms seem to match, but I just don't see how it's possible with me. I am a smoker, and granted, I do smoke more than I should, but I had only been smoking for 6 years at the time I got sick, and don't see how that could've possibly affected me. Practically everyone I know, online and off, are all smokers and none of them have ever heard of hyperkeratosis in association with smoking, let alone the illness itself.

I mean, one morning I'm perfectly fine as always and the next I'm totally sick. Don't see how something like that could've happened overnight especially if it's supposed to be caused by cumulative years of smoking. I'd think it would've built up as something minor at first and then gradually developed into what's wrong with me now. What's even weirder is that I don't feel as sick as I did years ago, even though my smoking hasn't decreased, which is also why I don't think it's the diagnosis they gave me.
can also be viral-caused, like in distemper

It hurt like hell the last time and because I can't swallow pills (nothing to do with this; just never been able to swallow pills in general), I could only take small amount of children's liquid tylenol which did next to nothing for the pain.

jilli - I have tried to quit smoking before and that lasted for 3 weeks. It wasn't even the nicotine that drew me back, as I didn't really miss that part, but rather it was more due to my state of mind. I'm sure it was just the withdrawal and all, but I have a wicked temper (i'm a nice guy in general til i get mad; kinda like the hulk minus the turning green, lol), and on that 22nd day, I was just in a horrible mood. Knew it was a choice between breaking a chair or smoking a ciggy; i went for the latter. But all that aside, I know smoking isn't good for me, regardless of the tongue/throat thing, but it's about the only thing that halfway takes my mind off of it.

it's a matter of timing though - it's not a thing that can be imposed on you, and sometimes the harder someone pushes the less likely the attempt is to succeed
honestly, if there was nothing wrong my tongue/throat and i was just normal again, i'd quit smoking in a heartbeat and I know i wouldn't have any problem doing it. But with my mind constantly focusing on my tongue/throat, I need something to take my thoughts off of it, and cigarettes happen to do the trick. I'm not excusing or condoning the reasoning behind it, but that is the truth.

There was a CBS TV program in the 60s I wish they would repeat -- it was a quiz on WHY you smoke -- mine was (blush) oral gratification. So I found a substitute, made in Japan. It was a plastic "cigarette" called Paipo, which you could drag on like a real one, and had a refreshing menthol flavour. That, and Nicorette gum (all that was available in 1989) got me through it.

she also had a rash last week that i am pretty sure was form sunscreen. i think she has super sensitive skin (she is very fair skinned). will try witch hazel if they get worse

this grid seems tough to me? Maybe because I haven't been babbling for awhile, need to work those muscles
I've loved the books but been totally disappointed by all of the movies. So much of the pleasure of the books is the language and the small details, which they can't possibly handle in a 2 hour film. They would have made great PGS special...maybe each book done in 4 or 5 parts could have given them the pacing and richness of detail. For me the films just become glossy action films.
It's like talking to my friend Colin you know. I read the book within 36 hours of release, it takes him 6 months and he wont let me discuss any part of the book till he's finished it!

Oh stid. I didn't know. How terrible. My guy is very stubborn. They say he had a double stroke, one after another. The hospital sent him home twice, saying it was only a migraine! I had to scream and shout and cry and make a dreadful fuss before they would admit him. he couldn't swallow, couldn't eat or drink.Ghastly.
oh hydra, that happened to a friend of ours several years ago. He finally convinced them it was more, but at what cost of time! poor man. poor you!
