I'm looking for ll suggestions about keeping deer from eating my vegetable garden....short of semi-automatic rounds (well maybe not, but at least not to start with). I've tried garlic clips, Liquid Fence, Coyote urine, human urine, pepper spray. Am willing to put up a fence, but not if they're just going to bust through it....we're right up against the forest. Any tried and true methods?

Eva - a big dog? Or a double fence are the only two things I can think of. Deer can clear a high fence if they have a running start, but then once they are over it, they can't get over the inside one.

hi Eva, looks like bambi's cousin is in your woods. Bambi hersefl lives near us apparently. They ate all the flowers off our 30 yer old hysbiscus tree then did in the orange blossom hybiscus. WE dont grow vegetables, so they go tho the flowering plants.
Last year I had no problems at all, but this year they have been awful...very depressing. I think my garden has been written up and given 4 stars in the "Where do Deer Eat" Michelin guide.
I've also heard if you string fishing line around, they can't see it and it spooks them when they contact it.
Eva the deer are probably hungry. Also you thought about having a seperate spot to feed they deer?
I would think its not too expensive as the farmers and small holders would not use it . Look into it Eva it will stop them. The problem with fishing lines is that they can be trapped and that would be awful. Byeee

They have eaten most of my hostas, all the rose buds, geraniums, lily buds, some of the tomato plants, all the sweet potato vines, the melon flowers, kale, beet greens. I thoiught of that herin, but I think ultimately that would just be like inviting them even further in.Also, I've heard that with the fishing line they get used to it very quickly.

my son just went through his first typhoon. it was a class 4 storm. the eye of the storm was almost as big as the island of Okinawa where he is stationed.
It's getting quite depressing now, after all it IS July.

What is your husband's objection? Oh, it is SOOOO hard when we lose our pets, especially when they have been with us for a long time. I just held Callie bunny's butt over the sink and cleaned her--she is almost 7 and she dribbles urine and is not the nest groomer anymore.

jac...we ended up w/ a tomato "jungle" because things kind of feel apart for us last summer...most of the plants just went to waste and so I felt guilty but this year in the garden...4 tomato starts, now plants popped up (and I did not plant any this year) Last years crop did some good after all I guess but it cracked me up! I've never had that happen before.

I have other things that rate on my list, but I mistakenly trust my heart, LOL. Plus, I have eaten no red meat. chicken, or pork in almost 27 years and most of my carbs are complex, so I figure that and the ASA I take occasionally will help...

a virus - very contagious - and can last out in the grass p to 6months -
Parvovirus--people can get infected too. We commonly see kids infected with Parvo--usually a rash, but sometimes there are liver and blood problems.
