nice little detail on the buddha: I got it from people I worked for. When I started for myself, they were jealous and the head of the buddha broke off that same day. I decided to glue it and the heck with jealousy. Then, years later, when my love and I moved to our present home, the head came off again during the moving. For fun, we dropped a grain of rice inside and then glued it shut. I was pregnant with my eldest the same week :)

This dream was Monday night, remember. As we were chatting and digging out words, you said you had "penis". Some trolls came on and made some crude remarks, so AnnieB said she had bills to pay. I stopped chatting. You, Mom, on the other hand, gave the most eloquent speech on the fact that penis was a completely acceptable biological word, and if individuals were not able to conduct themselves appropriately, perhaps another site would be advisable. You said, we don't smirk at language, we enjoy clever minds here.

I just don't "get" it, Haz... It seems as though the past 20 years or so, in order to get the advertising message conveyed, it's ugly trumps good taste, always.
I really objected to some of the Benetton advertisments (don't know if they reached the States or not) as they seemed designed to be provocative rather than to sell the clothes.
Its a long time since good taste and manners sold anything in the market place Scarlet.
The more outrageous, the more that women stumble over themselves to grab it... I think so many designs are created by individuals who are secretly laughing themselves silly that people "bought it".

Perhaps more people should object - it can work. I took great exception to an advert which appeared here on television. It was for a deodorant, but featured people trying to escape from a collapsing building. To me, it was in bad taste, coming so soon after 9/11. I wrote to complain, many others did as well, and the advert was changed.

where my mom lives, there are churches that sponsor flu shots for the elderly and disabled so it's like a drive-thru--she got her shot just sitting in her car!

Several of us, including the elderly, had to stand outside the building in the cold for quite a while, wouldn't even let us in where it is warm. UGH

i always dread open house. i can speak to a group of 5 year olds no problem, but speaking to a group of 30-40 year olds is very different!
well, remember that your kindergarten parents may be just as nervous as their kids were on the first day. And their whole focus is on how the day works for the kids and how to support them. :-) they will like you.
:) thanks! yeah, i do try to remember that a lot are nervous as well
oh -- and as a parent, I always appreciate when teachers are clear about the help they need: let parents know that you could use parents to just sit and read with a few kids at a time, for example, or that they can come in and help with art projects (something I didn't know at the time but would have been good with)

jilli, ok i read it. very nice. very nice. you do say a lot. nice to know you. china must have been amazing. do you remember it? my son spent 6 weeks in chengdu this summer playing table tennis. my other son (i have 4 sons and 2 daughters) spent 9 monoths in china, mostly in beijing at university studying chinese but traveled with a backpack for 3 months and even went places by yak. it was fascinating.
