wally amos of "famous amos" cookies
I'm there... mac-nut is my favorite
brb (with the cookies)
corps, no M in the grid...
that makes me sad, jilli.
(thinking of Latin for "always")
lol, jilli
no P either -- so what did you mean about the se7?
whenver we had to be shipped elsewhere, we had something called the "se**** drag." then just pluralize it.
firewords
Jilli, it's also something a sailor would use....as my husband can attest to. If I've got the right se7.
Jilli, it's also something a sailor would use....as my husband can attest to. If I've got the right se7.
wow dart! good job!
Sorry, don't know why it went twice! Congrats, Dart!
yes queen. you're correct.
wtg dart! i'm at 96
Packed a lot of those in our Navy stint. :)
Yay dart
this one was fairly straightforward..only a few weird ones
My hubby was in the Navy but I still don't get the se7 -- too tired to think I think
yes, queen. it's amazing how much stuff you can pack in a se6!
Jilli, it's where all his uniforms, civvies, and belongings went if he went away on a ship. That's how he got them to the ship.
Oh, finally got the se6/7 -- thought they were old women like me on a ship, lol
it rhymes with Lipton things that you dunk in hot water to make a hot drink.
haha jilli
LOL Jilli!
Good one, Jillli. I always wanted one big enough to stowaway in.
much more my size :)
corps!!! You pour BOILING water ON them to make the drink properly!!!

night nan!
Well done fran and nan. I didn't as i got bored
hi herin
Hello Xankia. How are you? enjoying heat
I can't believe how many people are here who were working on yesterday's grid with me a few hours ago. Didn't we all get enough punishment?
i took the list out with about 160 to go
Not really, you?
hi angel!
No i got 30C here
Hi Fran.
Pigeonman, are you (cyber)listening?
Angel NO and its only 6pm in Oz land
86 F here and hitting 98 F on tuesday (37 c)
true, herin. not quite so bad for you then. It's 11pm here, so I'm sacrificing sleep.
Not looking forward to next weeks heat either!
Me neither. I am either going to stay home, do yoga and hide or go to the gym and hide there not sure which yet
heat?? how bad?
30 at mo
7 below here this morning
hi mrp!
trade you?
I have to put up with the ferals whinging about the heat!
ALso My poor darling boy works as an aircon house designer so YAH fun for him
75 F here
hi fran :)
Moving to your house geek
brrr, pigeonman. I'll keep my 85F here.
hi pigeon!
A lot of nightlife... It's Las Vegas
Hi Geek.
Hi Geek.
what is 7 below?
Hi Pigeon
7 below zero.
Oh Vegas hot in summer freezing at night a
1 to go, can't find that ag8
Pigeon is that F?
like I said pigeon, what is 7 below?? never felt it ;))
yes
flosey, plural of a government "office"
It's a balmy kind of cold. The lull before the January, February lows.
i've never been in below zero either, brrrr
sorry, being unfunny at the expense of the freezing
Balmy? exactly what are those lows you'll be getting?
I spent some time in North eastern Minnesota... felt -90F... Ice storms, too cold to snow.
thanks Fran, will have to work with that
The coldest I've seen in the 6 years I've lived here is 61 below. Usually it hits 40 below 8 or 10 times during the winter.
flosey, plural of the A in CIA
That's without the wind chill factor.
Pigeon where the heck do you hid?
cr6, 21 clues anyone?
when we lived in Kimberley BC it would go down to 20 below F
Just outside of Fairbanks.
plural of a bad situation xanika
Don't let Geek fool you. He'd love to live here.
Ok if you live in ALaska its going be COLD
It
Too cold for me, pigeon. The coldest I've experience was about 14F, and that was plenty cold for this Southern CA girl.
Bring in the brass monkeys cold
that did it Fran, thanks
Fireworks
It's the truth... A bit of cool weather, then the summertime...
yw flosey! fireworks?
Yah Flosey
thanks Fran!
yay flosey!!!
Yay flosey!
yw xan
You adapt. I actually do better with really cold weather than with really hot weather. Which is kind of funny, since I graduated high school with Geek in Vegas.
well done, flosey
OK cool so you went from one extreme to another
wow, now tomorrow I can do all the things I've been avoiding - ugh
we get down to about -2 C
Yah flosey is house work on that list
He was here a couple of summers ago... It was teh hottest on record. We went 2 weeks with temps at or above 115F. He was here to see it
We used to play baseball together in 100 degree weather. Makes me yearn for an ice tea just thinking about it.
that's just crazy geek!
Pigeon step outside for your ice :p
That's why I
wow Geekmeister, that temp. must be pretty hard to take
m ready for Alaska
:-)
That just made me laugh out loud Geek. Switched boxes in mid sentence
Hey Pigeon. Do you get to see real life polar bears ?
I remember being in Las Vegas one September and it was 107 - I found it hard to breathe
I don't like it anymore. We can go to Lake Mead but that gets to almost 120F
The cybergods are having fun
Nope. We're too far south. Lots of Grizzlies though. They shot 8 this summer in the neighborhoods within a radius of about 20 miles.
They say t's a dry heat... Anything over 105 is just plain hot!!!!
Why did they kill the bears what did the bears do the the people (ps i dont particularly like the human race so if bears eat people well good people shouldnt have been near the bears)
fireworks
must get to bed, has been a long day
hooray for xanika!
Congrats Xanika
'nite flosey
yay xan!!
Yah Xankia night FLosey
see you at flip tomorrow
it is pretty cool that you both have kept in touch over this long! excellent friendship
They go into peoples yards and eat their dogs, or other such pets. Also, there are a lot of children around.
nite flosey
on ya xanika
Good stupid people shouldnt be near bears thats what annoys me about people
nite flosey and hi all!
Pigeonman and I have known each oher for 36 years
wow geek
To not be near bears there would have to be NO people in Alaska. I agree that people need to be competent around them, but there are bears, and then there are bears.
night flosey! hi mva!
Oh and these are mean bears?
a bear that would come up on my kids... that is a dead bear
Like the bear we saw in Valdez last summer... 10 feet away, but a small one. Maybe 200 pounds.
I like beara
Some are. Most of the time you can avoid problems. But sometimes you run into one that just won't act the way mst bears do. You know, like teenage boys.
bears even
Pigeon i agree
infern, you wouldn't like bears like these ones, we are lucky not to have them in aus
I like bears also. But if one was trying to get into my house, one of us would have to go.
He liked the salmon though. No taste for humans. The problem is that he was between us and my 2 sons. They were far away and could avoid hin though
And im guessing bears that are aggressive cant be reallocated.
bears are not innately scared of humans, they will come over to you and play with you like a cat does a mouse... they have to be 'taught' to fear people
Yeah Geek. That was pretty cool. Although it surprised me how easily he snuck up on us. Usually I'm pretty paranoid in those areas.
Not here. There are too many. It would just be put into another bears territory.
Mr pres i just got this image of a bear playing with a human oh dears
Thats what i am thinking Pigeon
To be fair. You almost NEVER see them. Most bears avoid people. Works out best for everyone.
I've seen bear crap on my property, but never the actual bear.
there was a picture series today in the paper, this guy fell into his own bear pit/trap and the bear nearly killed him... the other hunters just ran away and left him there. A photographer was following them to get pics of the slaughtering of bears in the area
you could google it I think... it was in Kashmir
I think that's kind of fitting. They allow bear baiting here. I think that sucks. If you really want to impress me with your hunting skills, kill one with a knife. :-)
the bear had it's mouth around his head! sensationalism sells
At least we have good pictures of the bear that did sneak up on us...
Mr Pres ha ha to that guy
the pics are very telling of the culture too... they have sticks and fire torches to scare the bears.... um, doesn't work well!
firewords
shelley ward's parents are being hunted for murder... good! give them life in prison
yay banana!!
They killed a grizzly here the year before last that was 10 feet from nose to tail. That means that if he stood on his hind feet, he could look in your second floor window.
wtg banana
Pigeon was that the Grizzle that was kiled with the 12 shot magnam and still didnt drop?
its scary how big bears can be up close
I'm not sure.
Yah Bana
ah, found it http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegra ph/story/0,22049,22763005-5006003,00.h tml
sorry about the long url
hi ata!
hi ata!
and hi :)
Pigeon i dont understand the point of hunting them like that why cant they tranq them then euthanasia? Hi Ata
have you got musk ox near you, pigeon?
Nope. They're farther north also. We do have a musk ox farm at the University in town.
they are *big* too
Pigeonman does have Moose though... I was lucky enough to see a few when I was there in August
when I was in Greenland, we were sharing an island with a big herd of musk ox. That was interesting at times
oh I LOVE moose
Herin. First of all. I don't hunt. I fish. Caych and release only. BUT, I don't really have too much problem with hunters. Except the bear baiting ones. When they do hunt, it's way out in the wild. The ones that are killed around here are the dangerous/nuisance ones. They are almost always killed by someone protecty their animals or themselves.
You may not want to think so, but you'd nail them also.
My dad fishes i dont anymore.
There have been a couple over the years that were shot trying to actually get into a house.
Ata moose tipping
NOt funny but funny
what about the bears at katami ?
those at used to people abd now they hunt them and thats wrong
Don't know anything about them.
Oh well...I have to get up for work in the morning. Good night all!
NIght Geek
'nite geek
nite geek, got to run too, bye all!
night geek!
Nite Geek. Oh hey. I sent the boys Christmas presents today.
I'll look for them Thanks... Brady is ready to move up there. He said I can join him later...
We have the room.
woot one of my fav words is in the grid
ok, back after feeding my little bears! My kids think they are polar bears reincarnated. The way they eat, I believe them
oh delightful news! NOT took little one to school today, and he walks up the stairs to his classroom... waving, looking cute... parents are standing around saying how lovely he is etc etc... he walks back out about 30 seconds later and throws up on the top of the stairs! it sent the kids screaming and the parents were trying not to barf!
oh mrp! was he sick?
Mr Pres what set him off?
or was it like a nervous thing
awwwww mrP, I am so sorry for him (and you) Morning all
hi sprite!
HI Sprite
he was violently sick!! it was like watching a hose lose control! He was sooooo embarassed
hi sprite! (((hugs)))
EWWW poor baby.
poor guy!
*hugs mrP right back and adds a comforting hug for the little one*
my kids would have waited until i was right next to them and then throw up all over me.
I cleaned it up... good mummy that I am... joy
well done, mrP. And Fran: yes, mine too!
What was wrong with the poor kid
did I tell you all the good news about the tax refund? am sure I did?
Yes you did mr pres. Was this at his new schoo
you sure did mrp!
oh yes, you did, mrP! But tell again, it is way too good to only tell once!
infern, kids have a way of just throwing up! usually it is bright pink and you have no idea when they had the carrots, cause the carrots are always in there!
and how is lickety? Still going to see the doc about his possible internal damage?
my connection is being nasty again!! sorry
lol mrp!
oh LOLLL mrP, that is SO true!
my daughter's is always bright pink!
Thats cause we have carotin in our stomach
MR RPes i just booted too
he did not! he went to work saying he was fine, fine, fine... and now he is out with the boys having drinks. Men! can't shoot them....
he even listed his status at facebook as "bruised, but okay"
explain the bright pink infern! it is fluro pink!
omg mrP... ok, forget about it. I right now want to add some damage by kicking his package :)
I saw that, Fran, and suspected this already!
LOL sprite!!
ooh sprite, that's harsh
That i cant explain
he probably thinks we won't bother him if he says he's okay.
I am harsh, Fran :) And lickety knows where this is coming from :)
back in a tic
he loves you sprite! you keep him sane!
let's all write on his wall to go to the doctor.
the man does not know the first thing about being bothered. I can keep it up for months :D
and sprite knows where the insanity comes from too! LOL
I love him right back, mrP. He is a great great guy. Who right now needs his body and his mind checked, lol.
good idea, Fran!
gates agates
of course I felt sorry for my boy... so on the way to the bank, I took him to buy some games for his 'gameboy'.... 3 games later, he has a smile on his dial and has been playing for 8 hours!
hi lizmac!
hi liz! **waves**
Sorry, something strange happened there, blue flash, does that mean I.ve chatted instead of entering?
yes it does... you pressed the space bar
I have done that when I am hurrying to finish! LOL
awww leave lickety alone :P the bruise wasn't on his spine by the looks of it, and most docs (at least here) will just give you painkillers and tell you to go away
AAAAAH, I see. Anything better than a warm bed in the penalty box?
I haven't been in there for a while!! Is there any booze in the box?
*waves some tequila*
Bruise was at the height of his kidneys, Ata... and the spine needs checking because he landed hard on a side. Ah well, I bugged him on his wall :) The sin bin is filled up... booze, chocolates, even pancakes!
ata, I have painkillers of every variety! he didn't take anything but beer and wine
i just put fresh baked cookies in there
my true aussie bloke!
well, mrP, beer and wine can be great painkillers of course :)
thats men for you!
and doctors are for sissy-girls! according to him
I can relate to men in that aspect, Ata!
well, I wouldnt have bothered going to the dr if I'd done the same LOL but I'm obviously equally mad
self-medicating is fine!
lol Ata... well, be happy you don't have a package I can kick :)
LOL sprite!
and no matter what, mrP, I am there for lickety and you... you both know that, right? Even if I am yelling at him now ;)
lol well after my gp told me to go home and take some paracetamol when actually I'd displaced one side of my pelvis, I don't have any faith in GPs to diagnose any back problems!
ohhhhh Ata, what a maniac! Can I kill him for you? Or her (even worse)?
most of our gps are like that. They don't have the training / patience to deal with back proble,s
I'm off to bed before I do any more damage! Well, at least they were real words!
hmz, 'basta' is not an english word, I guess. Which single word do you use for Enough! if enough is not strong enough?
not basta! distinctly Italian
liz, you could not help it. Sometimes the lag is so bad, you enter 2 words as a sentence without ever hitting space! Sleep well!
ENOUGH YOU STINKING BRAT! STOP IT NOW!
THAT'S IT! GET IN THE CAR, WE'RE GOING HOME!
*makes note to explain to Ata the meaning of 'single'*
Hi
*and to mrP as well*
well if you say it quickly enough ..... enoughyoustinkingbratstopitnow!
LOLLLLL
I carefully read the single bit... it is just a state of mind... saying SH**! means all those things
i wanted basta too, it's also spanish i think
I think so too, Fran!
thatsitgetinthecarweregoinghome is also one word :)
I believe it is too ata! used that word many a time
I love you, Fran... at least one person I can relate to ;)
Mr pres i did send him a message on facebook
yay lady!
But facebook crashed :(
why are there so many A's and B's and C's.... oh wait... the whole alphabet is an issue now!
I have crashed my connection so many times tonight!
I can't yahoo or skype!
Mr pres i think there is a prob with our net. Are you with iinet?
phantoms: gateau and bateau
facebook works fine here
no, I am with the big boys... telstra. so everyone else is having issues too
working fine here too
I am having trouble with the eau ending too, Fran :)
sorry, let me clarify, everyone else in Australia :)
sometimes the huge oceanic cables go down, i wonder if that's what's happened.
odd. Is iinet part of telstra?
oh, beautiful icon, Fran!
it has been like this since thursday last week
Ok then we are both being fecked then do you know why?
yes it is... telstra supplies everyone in australia
thanks sprite! not the most difficult word, but the icon was pretty
I just stole it for my collection, Fran :)
i couldn't think of an icon for the eu9, especially since i have no idea what it is.
there is an eu 9!! crap
ah, thanks for telling me it is there! *goes hunting*
my monkeys found it for me, but there is not def at dictionary.com
*starts lookinh too*
got it!
i found it by going after the nasal tubes. :-)
woo hoo ata!
I was thinking along those lines too
ok, infoplease does not know it, merriam-webster does not know it. Neither do I, lol.
Mr pres do you have a reason for the snafu?
look it up with an s instead of the c. that sounds more likely
but is not valid here... :(
nope :( I bet you'd find a definition that way though
been playing to long that took 5 secs to find on more words
sorry, no, same lack of results.
argh i have scrabble racks from hell
So Ata your racks arent pretty?
you too, Ata? Same here!
snafu? what?
i have a bingo that i can't play in our game ata
The internet do you know what the snafu could be
oh. well its about sea level changes, i can almost guarantee
*looks round for rolin* in her game I have IZUIUXA
it is telstra infern, it is screwing up the telecommunications all over australia for some reason
ooh, that's cool ata!
lol Ata, yeah, that looks similar
nothing above IXIA, I think
find a triple letter score above an A, I or U and you can get a big score.
I am pretty sure I even used that word yesterday in a scrab game!
Spelled differently it means tube is a membrane lined tube that connects the middle ear space to the back of the nose. That Eu
and in your game, Fran, I have AAAEETT great eh?
Mr pres its very annoying
wait, that's my rack ata!
yup, herin, but in this form its sea-level change I'm pretty sure, herin
LOL @ Fran and Ata
LOL sorry for giving that away Fran, I just had to arghhh!
no worries ata, our board is getting really tough to play, i just had rootier as a bingo, but i couldn't play the whole thing.
ick, that would have been good!
ATa i think i had would you like a constance with one of my boards
i still played it, but with an existing T on the board, not very many points. :-(
one game I've finished playing, I had only 1 vowel for my first four turns. I hate Scrabble LOL
But you love it right?
oh yes
now how am I meant to make up 80 points with As, Ts and Es? LOL!
I don't think you can really love something without hating it sometimes.
hmz, naga is not valid, Ata
brb
NOw I keep seeing Nagini
yup, that one neither
you need and I and an Y in the right places, Ata, it is easy. EIGHTY.
oh yay me, yay me! I found the on-the-ocean word without prompting!
woo hoo! just played a bingo!
ab
woohoooooo!
wtg Fran!!!!!
not going to say whose game. :-)
ab to you too, galey, and hi!
I bet it is in mine!
let me guess LOL
no one plays with me... I get bingos to frequently, I am banned
hi all
jilli was so funny, she said the se6 was an old woman on board a ship.
can I just give up now?
hi joso!
mrP, you never picked up my invitation to paly!
i'll play with you mrp!
what invitation?
hello everyone
and you never added me to your friends list. :-(
lolll @ jilli! Good one!
hi lynxxx!
hi lynxxx!
oh shite! I haven't been on email for ages or on firefox cause of the internet problems. I am happy just to be on here with you guys!
to play Scrabulous with me, mrP! Wait, let me nudge you.
ata, i'm just getting back at you for our first game. :-)
*grins*
if you go to your home page at facebook you'll see bunches of stuff from us mrp. :-)
hi lynxx :))
ok, you are nudged, mrP! See your inbox!
and check home page for the requests... took me some time to find them there too.
Hi MRP, how was the house feedback
thank you girls! will get to it when the internet is fixed, otherwise I will be falling off my chair and looking at carpet the whole time
anyone have all three Ws? i have we4 and wh4, is the third one easy?
okay mrp, a wonky connection wouldn't be fun
3rd one is one of those leagle words
66 points!
someone get gorilla glue and a staple gun!
*legal
joso, second letter?
hi joso :))
TY Joso
wh
Mr Pres i have net problems too
see ata! complaining for nothing. :-)
like thereat etc
*sends over some serious glue and a huge staple gun to mrP* I SOOOO want to play with you!
nice one!
great clue, Ata, got it now :)
ooh, got it! thanks joso and ata!
anyone got solutions for stomach upset?
LOL I know. I'm just grumbling today!
what sort of stomach upset? sickness? indigestion?
My stomach is all bloaty and ive not eaten bad food either
i like soda when my tummy is like that
cod liver oil, but everyone says the cure is worse than the problem
yup, bicarb of soda
or just a coke! :-)
Yeah and eww to cod liver oil
icky joso
lol JoSo, and hi! *hugs* Will fix the bill soon, btw, just waiting for the paycheck to come in.
or flat coke
I think i may ride it out and hope that i am good tomorrow. May go for the lemonade
np sprite, I trust you
cola usually does the trick for me. Or eh... well... burping a lot.
I am glad, JoSo :)
I am alergic to cola
Mr p's parcel is now in richmond BC, a suburb of Vancouver, probally waiting for the right ship
hooley dooley joso! thanks!
ah, wonderful, JoSo!
oh thanks Joso
Joso you just reminded me to poke Barnes and Noble for my order
your trscking is slightly more interesting than Sprite's. Sprites must have got a ship strait from Toronto, just says it sat in a post office for a while then left the country
yeah, mine is very short, lol. We are waiting in anticipation!
joso, is the package going surface?
what you getting?
Mr p, the address you gave me, will it still be good by the time it gets there?
yes fran, both via slow boats to china
sent thier son's some comic books
oh yes, we are not going anywhere for at least 3 months, even then mail gets redirected for a year
the father of a friend of mine collects stamps. He will go crazy over these ones! :) :)
it's probably going to go from vancouver to LA, then get on a ship that goes to Guam and then to Australia from there, possibly through Bali or the Philippines.
JoSo blessed us with giving our sons some great comics!
oh Fran, really? Is it passing your country as well? Marvellous!
sorry sprite, no stamps on the box, shipping sticker because I went to the post office to send.
yes, that boat will probably stop in Hawaii on the way to Guam.
aw... ok, too bad for him then!
I have told Luke to expect a package from Canada... he is wondering why anyone would send him a package? and from Canada! His school team were 'Canadian' for the last olympic games, so he learnt alot about Canada
you can write me a line on it, then, Fran ;)
lovely, mrP! Something to look forward to for Luke :)
oh sprite, i think mrp's will pass me, yours is going the opposite direction across the Atlantic. :-(
too bad, Fran :(
If I ever send to you again I'll try for stamps. 85$ of stamps should be interesting, I wonder what the largest Canadien stamp is
I'll write on it :P
plus, homeland security would have been suspicious of me rummaging through the mail going to the Netherlands. :-)
oh, that would be great, JoSo, I can make that man so happy with stamps!
oh please do, Ata! *hug*
nah, I don't think so, Fran. Not you. You have the most sweet and innocent face!
that's cool Mr P, keeping him in suspence
ha! fooled you too, eh? ;-)
weird coincedence, My best friend's first name is the same as Liketies, not too weird yet, but his wife's first name is the same as Mr P's
*grins evilly at Fran* Actually, I think... you ARE very sweet. Don't know about the innocense... but I know you have a very big and loving heart!

maybe she has cold on her bladder and cannot hold it anymore...
well, I am on friendly terms with Mr P and Lickety, but barely know them really, Known my Mark since High School
she's already been out for that!
Joso that is lovely of you. SOrry dinner called then blood nose decided to annoy me. Yah for summer and me over heating
ok, then she IS pestering. Send her to her basket :)

Its a bit hard having a stuffed nose
Dogs never get enough walks, in thier opinions anyway, lol
LOL! I am reading up on how to raise a puppy, Ata... did you slip somewhere? ;)

I'm determined to hold out till 10am anyway (50 mins)
Ata shes going to bother you until you do
ah, very firm, Ata :P
SPrite i am eating as i am typing

my puter fell off the table and the darn connection got bent! I am so not good with puters... what did I miss?

Me getting a blood nose and trying to organise dinner which worked
*hugs mrP* Nothing important, darling. Hope things will be better soon for you.

Mr Pres you need to love that pc
and you need to check your inbox on facebook, Ata... I sent you a message!
OH and Hobbit needs walkies now
I am hoping that the curse of the millions of mirrors we have allegedly broken will lift soon
I screwed up Shadow's training by marring Solitare, she loves to spoil all the animals outrageously, shadow has almost no dicipline. Fortunatly he's a good hearted fellow to the core.
check my deviantArt page!
lol JoSo! Your wife must have an endlessly loving heart!
As i felt like the living dead today i stayed home and did my yoga class on dvd so i was happy.

Aparently this breed is a french cow herder, but herds not by little nips at the heel, body checks the cows into the right direction

My Boys old girl used to herd the kids
morning lynxxx
Hi haz
Good morning all - and evening to the Australians.
i cant find anything bigger than an 6 at the moment
Joso has a lovely clue on his icon for the 9
ohhhhhh Ata! Yes, perfect! Great tones, very good distribution of space... I love it.
hi Haz!
Hello sprite.
well the tones and space were already done for me ;) I just added the Star Wars bits!
hi haz
darn, must be off for physiotherapy. And then shopping. I hate shopping. Will be back this afternoon, *hugs* for you lovely Babblers.
bye Sprite
bye Sprite have a lovely day
hi haz
oh dear, the pestering intervals are getting shorter
Hello Atalante - you know what that means, don't you?
atalante is a tit
utter desperation!
LOL !!
bye sprite ((hugs)) have a good day
well I've nearly finished my outlines, I guess I can take her out in a minute if she's sooooooooooo desperate
I mean, the poor girl hasn't had a walk for all of 20 hours
Of course, she's desperate, you just have to look at her to know that.
oh you cruel girl!!
I should get some sleep, g'nite all
nite nite joso ((hugs))
goodnite Joso
she's a poor, unloved, unlooked for dog
*unlooked after
And the cruelty people are on permanent standby.
Her cruelty file is two inches thick.
haz, I have a question
g'day to all
Hi Rose!
at *least* 2" thick
And when they need a case for the cameras, Hobbit is number one choice.
Hi Rmc
Fire ahead, mr president. You want to know how Atalante can be so cruel?
well, several actually, and in need of advice really... I know, I know.... send me the bill
Whats up Mr PRes
hey lynxxx, how are things with you?
I have seen dog cruelity done to animals that are the best loved and most pampered!!
anyway, here is my question
and helloooo herin
hi haz! hi rose!
Great Rose - and you?
hey fran
we have similar laws, as we are the commonwealth, so perhapsyou can help... If an animal looks like it is being mistreated (ie, is starving and skinny), who do you report that to? and how do you get the animal help without it being put down?
a stray or a pet?
I only ask as I know your husband deals with animals and you may know stuff
it is a pet, we know this cause we took it to the pound and the owners collected it
doing quite goodly. even MM has improved over the last few days. once i said he couldn't ride the motorcycle if he was still in so much pain, all of a sudden, he perked right up. funny about that!
whatever the Aussie equivalent of the RSPCA is. Phone them and report it
hi rmcc :)
I'm not sure if the same holds for Australia as here but over here we have local dog wardens attached to local councils - they would have powers of seizure if the dog is a stray. The USPCA (or RSPCA on mainland) have powers to advise, but they would need police warrant to seize an animal. There's no guarantee of rehoming with either.
hi mrp, weather good in your neck of the woods?
We have RSPCA, just wondered how best to go about it to get best result
weather is lovely! how is everything by you? infernal was warning us of severe weather (hot as hell) coming next week
we have the same haz
could someone clue me the 9 please
get some photos or video of them mistreating the animal, if you can. and talk to the rspca people
The other thing is that if the pound was prepared to give the animal back to the owners, they might not think the dog was over the line for malnourishment etc.
I have the cat here, day and night... it fights with all my animals and is sooooo skinny it is just ugly! lovely animal, but very neglected
it is a cat haz.... a ginger cat, just beautiful in nature! but very very hungry
mrp, call the RSPCA and after they have acted on your advice, you can followthe animals progress and ask them to contact you if the dog needs a new home.
cats can be skinny for reasons other than neglected. but if its hungry .... poor babe
So, it's a cat rather than a dog? In that case, strike off the dog wardens from the equation.
it is crying for food! just awful! you can tell a cry for food over any other cry
sounds like it needs worming, mrp
oh you might be right! I can do that myself
Mr Pres catch it and send it to the pound or tame it
rmcc, I keep forgetting about our worming issues in this country... I worm my family twice a year too!
ok, I give in. Going to walk the poor neglected unloved dog
You know it makes sense, Atalante.
infern, I did catch it and it went to the pound, but the owners claimed it and were cross with us... (they don't know who we are, they told the pound that their cat would never roam)! this cat comes from 2 km away!
right, well try that first. some people just don't realise that pets need medicating as well
Keep the kittie?
eu9.66 almost the direction - eu** + high cards with another vowel in 3rd place
nearly time for lunch, but 1st i need help with the 8 &9??
Do you not think they have enough on their plate, herin?
Ata, send the dog over to us! we walk ours three times a week, perhaps if the dog knew how awesome you really were, it would appreciate you! LOL
That was the first thought im my head
infern, would love to keep the darling... but we have so much on! our cat is our pet, and they don't get on... it attacks our cat and our dog
I love your heart infern! always straight from your heart :) **kisses**

How is it all going carlee ?
yea... having a high maintenance hubby home...welll... its like having a cick toddler home....but one who your size ( not being mean....he's just VERY hi maintenence right now)
sick * was what I meant
Carlee fully understood men can be babies when sick. I am lucky mine just shuts up and sleeps
how is his temperament ?
it will get easier Carlee as you both settle into a routine
my
sorry - testing my babble expert
he's ok most of the time... its just...very..tiring...
hi lickety
and will have hom home now for 3-4 months
You will get into a routine soon Carlee
It must be... I do feel for you....trying hard to be the best you can all the time is not easy
thanks... i kow it will get better...I am just afriad will get worse before gets better....I feel I have been through enough worse is all
I think it will test you both when you have him home for such a long period.... do you have any 'time out' palns ?
I work about 12 hours/ week
*plans
and..ur apart when u sleeping...
LOL....true... I think you will need some time just to be yourself and relax too
umm.... no..none of that scheduled... no time
as I will still be doing the travel hockey thing...and girl guides..and running for piano lessons... and taking care of him
You will have to make time.... best for you all in the long run
( travel hockey is a league where you play other cities ... my son on a travel hockey representing our city... and with kevin's feet unable to move yet with good reflexes..I am one driving to the games and back )
Will he be able to do anything for himself carlee ?
most cities are 1-3 hours away
in time..yes... right now..not much
best get yourself some good music tapes for the long drives
Carlee what about carpooling?
hahaha...with a 15 year old son next to me>..uh..no its gangsta rap all the way....
time to put your foot down with a heavy hand !
have to have 'give and take' even with 15 year old sons !
sometimes yes...carpooling works.... but...my son being who he is..."talks" after hockey....he is a stream of consciousness.... so I rather take him..so we get that.....stream... cus otherwise he's retty quiet... with everything going on....he needs to talk
and I need to hear what is going on...wihtout that time..i may not
Fair enough great mum time.
thats true...washing up was always a favourite 'talk' time here
and i guess stuck in a car with you its either talk or not
pretty much....
The kids always seemed to be able to 'unload' when there hands and eyes were occupied elsewhere

Ooops. So much for my memory. 'Nuff said. That's a very tender age, specially for a girl.
she's doing ok tho... I got her loadsof art supplies and she paints...and draws..and has her music..and we hang out doing the "girl thing"
Is she the youngest, oldest or middlin?
Not saying to banish her (though I'm sure that holds a certain appeal for you LOL), just that maybe it would open a dialogue you might not otherwise have. that you have to work together, for him, and put aside negativity. Focus on helping.
G'd morning my love!
She sounds lovely Carlee, daughters can be pretty special
(oh..and did I mention that IF indeed she did faint from stress..well that my fault too as I haven't found her a proper outlet for her stress...and so I am failing as a mum and haven't spent enough time helping her through this )
Hi Uniquity
( mind she hasn't TRIED to help at all with the kids )
lol Carlee - I think I would be developing bad phone calls when she calls occassionally
hi uniquity...
phone call/ - phone lines!
to say I want to ring her neck is understatement
LOL carlee. You're just an all 'round flop in her books then? Lovely.....
pretty much..his whole family at our wedding was laying bets we would not last a year... coming up on 18 years..they still dont like me
ok..well.. I have to get show on road... enjoy the day..thanks for letting me unload...AGAIN...
maybe back tonight to finish this thing up... not sure...
Drive carefully carlee. We're pullin' for ya! :-) Later!
thanks...byebye
you have a good day too Carlee, and plan something indulgent for yourself next week while you are still 'free'
Bye carlee, and hello again to everyone else.
Hi Haz
FIREWORKS here!
Hello lynxxx - you the sole Australian representative left?
congrats Nono!
Congratulations Nono.
think so haz...its quite late here - as well as hot which is why I am very slow
back from walkies!
Hello Atalante!
and did we enjoy it?
G'd morning Haz. Congrats Nono!
Good morning everyone. First snow on the ground here.
lovely walk. through a big frosty field into some lovely woods and back again, followed by a stop at a farm shop for a piece of toffee cake
Good morning! Another beautiful day in the neighborhood
had to watch for the school bus. it's pouring tooo hard here to wait outside.
Good morning Merk and Eva.
oh yum Atal!
Hi Merk
G'd mornign Eva, Merk. wb Atlante
Oh, and Lori as well.
Hi Eva too!
Good afternoon.
Morning all. Boy it's cold today but lovely and sunny.
hopefully I'll have one tired dog all afternoon now
Hi jac!
Hello Frances and Jacula.
~!~!FIREWORKS!~!~
Just realised, now afternoon. Don't know where the time goes.
congrats Kristin. How was the grid today?
Congrats Kristine
TY It was Wonderful compared to yesterday ! took me about 45 minutes !
bye everyone, will leave the rest for the morning
Congrats., Kristine.
These are my kinds of grids !
ciao lyn
G'd morning Frances, Jacula. Congrats Kristine!
ty vm e1
Ok well the baby is giving me a hard time about getting dressed so i must be off ! Any clues before I go ?
OK see you all tomorrow hagd
'Bye, Kristine. (I thought you were calling us all 'hags' there for a moment! LOL)
Have a good oen Kristine!
I need breakfast, bbl
oh I'm glad the past tense of the sheep noise is allowed
ty, ata, i'd not've thought to try that :)
i only tried it for a laugh
one of those very pleasing moments when a nice word is allowed
:)
oh, while walking I saw a dog with the funniest woof in the world. I took a little vid of him *uploads to youtube*
Maybe Simon Cowell could make a competition out of that, Atalante? Better copyright the idea before he steams in and takes over.
Ata...did you try pl'ing the sheeps noise ?
wasn't there a talking dog on one of the UK's got (a distinct lack of) talent show?
yes, karys :) thats equally good
There probably was. I'm sure it brought tears to the eyes of the beholders.
I liked that one too !
And have you got the plural of the plural of the sheep noises? ba6/24
thats the one I meant Haz !
huh. ty, haz
Ah, sorry, Karys. By the way, I showed those photos to husband last night - hilarious!
I sent them to Australia too Haz !
ba4/6 - the pastoral noises, ba6/24, add a plural type ending to turn up the volume on the pastoral noises.
O.O a whole chorus of sheep!
this is the funny dog, in case anyone is remotely interested: http://tinyurl.com/3bhgbv
I havn't gone for the list yet and I can't find a d but dont' know which one ! I have De, 4,5,6 and 7 and the dr
The wee dog sounds hoarse!
I'm sure he's saying woof woof half way through
oh and another d6 I missed off
LOL, Ata. That dog really IS saying, 'ARF!'.
strange looking beastie too! he was a cutie though
Okay, I'm trying to imagine that eu 9 being used in a sentence......
LOL. The timer went off for the (american) biscuits i had in the oven. Younger cat bolted somewher, stepping on the dog, causing him to jump up, confused - he's deaf and part-blind - and the older cat watched it all bemusedly. :)
There's a couple of degrading de6 and de7, there's also a past tense of an animal home used as a verb, Karys (de6)
Actuallythe dog is going "Hey Mum/Dad, there's some perv filming me from the bushes"!
got those Haz...and the artist
Happy Fridays and hello :)
awwww dc!
G'd morning FM
Hi, FM.
Hello Mitch
Hello FM
afternoon, fmitch
Have you got the releasing of (aham) air? (de7)
The dog could also be saying 'You won't believe this spaniel. She's wearing a purple collar'
ty haz, those were the Ds i lacked
Hey Karys (& smiley cat), Frances, Lori, dc, Jacs, Haz and Ata and everyone else ... phew
Hi-de-Hi, FMitch.
looool true! Or mom mom! I wanna purple collar too!
Glorious suuny.blue sky day but heavens what a thick frost!
250 to go...I can do it....oh, that is yesterday's grid. Thank God that is over.
I'm surprised the grid doesn't allow 'debag/s' - obviously they don't pull trousers off people in Enable.:)
i gave up yesterday
that was the one Haz ...thank you !
Enable hasn't been to University Jacs
Great, Karys.
Oops! Hope there's chocolate in the penalty box.
I tried that too Jac
Yes, dc, I could have done it on a weekend day, maybe, if I hadn't gone loony.
LOL, Scrabbs.
if i'd been at work, i'd likely have gotten through it.
my lonely holdout word is st 5/14, not the one you perform on, Guten Morgen, Babblers and please help
hello everyone!
morning all
It's a plural, inge.
morning, dan
Hi Annie and Dan and all
morning, annie
st5/14 - more than one antlered creature.
Good morning to dan, Scrabbler.
Hello Annie & dan.
Hello Scrabbler, Dan Annie and inge
I always try "cise"--if we can excise and incise why can't we plain cise?
Can I just say that Ballymena greeted Santa's arrival last night. Unlike other years, no reindeer, thanks to livestock import restrictions (usually brought over from Scotland). Clydesdale horses had to do the honours instead.
How nice, Hazel!
Damn! Postwoman's just brought parcels and one of the dvds is wrong. I expected a set of 3 gardening dvds and got one totally different film. Now... how do I go about contacting play.com...
after getting kicked off the chat I did find your clue and am enjoying my firewroks, that ventriquolist again, Wow
ARGGHHH, JAcula.
sounds lovely, haz.
Yahoo, Inge. I just got here and you just finished.
yay inge!
did they have red noses?
I just started and we have finishers, congrats to inge!
I just did my first 'copy and paste' thing with Ata's video !!!!
Oh Jacs, just ralised what yr icon is, love those puss cats! Oh Haz, no reindeer, hope you stil enjoyed Father Christmas and remember you still have to be good for the rest of the year.
It probably looked fine, but there was always a novelty factor for the vets at the practice to check over the reindeer to make sure they were fit for going back.
I think Father Christmas is due in our nearest market town tomorrow afternoon.
Here is a trick to not do at your homes: with my sacral injury I have been sleeping with a heating pad, but I sustained a burn last night.
he shows up much earlier there than he does here
FM - I hadn't heard of them until I read about one in the paper yesterday. I fell in love with them then. See the really smiley cat (2nd) on my flickr pics.
didn't have a towel around it, srabbler?
Oh Scrabbler!
I had my pajamas on, but with movement the heating pad touched my skin and although it has a cloth covering I got a burn.
Gee, Scrabbler, Tut mir leid. Here is some ointment to treat the burn
Oh, poor Scrabbs.
hopefully not too bad a burn. Noxema esaes burns well
Coffee is ready. Who wants some?
hello all - help pls with the eu9
non-serious ones, that is
One of the reasons I wont use a heating pad at night, I am afraid I will fall asleep with it, hope you are okay, Scrabbler
Darn, I'll have to change my ideas for an icon - I was going to do ca5/18 ca4/5 and bring in a bit of Rilke.
Jacs, click on my icon.
those are the tubes in yuur ears
*holds out mug for Scrabbler*
beautiful, fmitch!
Ooh, FM. What a beauty!
*no sugar, please*
du9 - eu plus a plural of a man/woman's name, as in Mr Keach? Or a character from the ever cheerful Eastenders?
tubes in ears end in -ians as a was taught.
Thank you dc, the cats lovely too *grin*
Have you kidnapped a CoG?
ty Haz
FM and Jacula, what beautiful cats!
FM and Jacula, what beautiful cats!
it means a type of sea-level change
Here is the coffee--enjoy!
You're welcome.
*straightens self up, er no Haz, No cats around here*
oh, neat, ata, i shall have to look into that a bit more later, how interesting
Penalty box, penalty box - why is nobody else on duty!!??
*thanks, scrabbler....takes mug gratefully*
Eeek sorry, not doing words so didn't know
Annie - they're Norwegian Forest ca4/5s. You can read about them in my bio.
*Walks over to PB wondering if anything tasty is in the cupboards*
going there now, Jacula
oops, want to hit the Y this morning. See you all later
ciao, inge!
Bye inge - have a good day.
Bye Inge. Enjoy the day.
bye inge, enjoy your workout
Back in 5
later, FM
just been looking at Jac's cats...they ARE beautiful
Hi to all comers...bye to all leavers....and Congrats to all finishers... I'm just not quick enough to do everything !!!
Not my ca4/5s, Karys but I wish they were. (Except for the hunting tendencies. I already have a feline like that!)
using yogurt instead of milk in the biscuits gave them a neat textrue
Good idea, DC
They are indeed a very handsome cat jacula and as your profile suggests they are very much like a Maine Coon Cat
The only trouble with long-haired ca4/5s if if they refuse to be groomed, like my old Kira did. You end up having to shave them once a year!
I want a Norgwegian Forest Cat!!!!
I want some lunch !!!!...bbl
much more beautiful than maine coons. the coons look like barrells on stilts
I want a Maine Coon
They are also very useful in scaring trolls away, something we should consider
Annie - I haven't checked prices but I bet they're not cheap.
Annie - the troll thing was my main reason for putting them in the bio.
my George does not like being groomed but we get thru it
Back
Jacula, I had a good laugh when I read about the trolls
Nono - my Kira had lots of claws and teeth, and made full use of them after a couple of brushstrokes.
i use a Furminator to groom the cats - they love it.
Me, too, Annie. It was an unexpected bonus when I looked up info on the ca4/5s.
George has had front claws removed which helps but he still gets me with the back ones and his very sharp teeth
Good morning (afternoon) babblers everywhere !
Our cat used to forget how much he loved being groomed and would fight like hell to start with and then suddenly remember and purr and purr and purr
http://www.furminator.com/
Haha, Jacula. My hands and arms have scars from years of rabbit care--clipping claws, giving medication, brushing, and snuggling up.
morning, montreal!
Furminator? *scuttles off to look it up*
All the cats that I had were domestic shorthairs and they were all beautiful...some of them loved to be brushed except one....he hid when he saw the brush
terrific icon, montreal!
Scrabbs - mine, too, but rabbits and g/pigs' claws aren't so sharp.
Thanks, dcs.
merci Une... was for 2-days ago theme...
rabbit claws aren't sharp in my experience
hi montreal, love your icon
good morning everyone :)
tx annie, morning DC
I wonder if I could use the Furminator on my rabbits.
spaniel claws aren't sharp, but they can still damn well hurt when swiped across your arm
hi mom, scrabs et al
good morning Montreal
Hi Mom
good morning Annie
Good morning montreal.
i have damage an my neck and arm from my elder cat. one would think i'd half-heartedly tried to off myself.
good morning, mom
Good morning Haz, how did you like yesterday's grid?
Scrabbs - I was just wondering that, too. The furminator looks brilliant.
good morning Dcseain
good morning Hazel (and Spangle...)
Hello Mom - I enjoyed it!
I thought of you when I saw it.
i've been very pleased with the furminator - i use it on both cats - one a single-coat siamese, one a double-coat tom, the dog, and the rabbit.
Spangle may sulk but the icon's changed to suit the theme.
Hi Mom and Montreal
i had a peek at yesterday's grid - far too many for a working day - went for sudoku instead...
good morning Scrabbler
dcs - I shall definitely buy one.
be right back
Now, 25 to go but it's time I had lunch and then I have a few jobs to do in the garden. Hope I don't freeze out there.
TY for sharing, DC
and it's gentle - i tried on my beard before i used it on the animals. It gets dreds out of the double-coat tom.
enjoy, Jac
And I should toddle off as well. Bye for now.
How much (and what food products) did you remove from your beard, dc?
later Jac
and it gets burrs off the dog.
ciao, jac
bye hazel
Bye Jacula and Hazel.
Bye Haz
dc i have tried the furminator but the teeth are much to close together
bye, haz
bye Jac and Haz
oH and Jacs too
Byee!
Byeee.
Excuse me, I hear Bunny Callie getting into trouble.
nono, you didn't find it useful?
i now use one that I call a rake, the teeth are hard plastic rather than metal and about 1/8 inch apart
it does a much better job on George
This reminds me of my mother combing my hair after it was braided when I was a child...ooh, that hurts!
okay, back at it
I need the first ba 5/16...any help?
i learned to comb and braid my sister's hair because our grandparents were too rough with it.
12 down...123 to go...
lol Montreal, go get 'em
annie, the sheep made a noise
24 down, 111 to go
go, Annie, go
thank you, dc.....thought it was sheeplike just didint see that one
ata pointed it out earlier, i never would have thought to try that, nor the plural plural of that noise, had haz not mentioned it.
I'm back for a bit. Coffee hit the spot.
ok I am off to get some cleaning done :(
happy babbling everyone
njoy, nono, have a great day!
I am having my coffee as I babble, lovely combo
I am having my coffee as I babble, lovely combo

Have a nice one, Nono
Hi Merk

Not much beats coffee and babbling.
good morning merk
how about tea and babbling Merk ?
love your profile Montreal.
tx mom...still in draft mode...
I just had peanut butter and crackers and iced tea while babbling. That takes care of breakfast
i'm eating biscuits and ginger ale
you're welcome
have to scoot now, see everyone later today. Hugs to all
have a great day, mom
I am ordering some photos online. Does anyone know how if I can take a video clip and order a photo still off of it?
(((mom)))
thanks, you also, bye bye
{{Montreal}} bye bye
dunno, scabb, but i don't see why not.
scrabbler.
It turns out that for some pics I did a video clip --I must have hit the wrong button as I don't know what I am doing with my new digital camera.
not done it myself scrabs but, like dc, don't know why not !
should be able to, scrabbler, though the quality might not be so god
*good

You, thanks, montreal
re-lol annie
well done Fmitch! i find sudoku much more challenging than i ought to. i do not yet grok the strategies for narrowing choices.
the old GROK trick...ahhhh yessss
Good morning, all!
Niether do I dc, I just go by instinct (very un mathematical)
Hi Nonnie!
Morning Nono good !

Nonnie, I love your wedding photo
Thank you, Annie!
That makes me one too dc, I still have my copy.
ok nonnie doing
Fmitch, i bought the unabridge one a few years back, most interesting it was trimmed by 1/3 by editors for initial release
Good the hear, dc. I feel rested and relaxed...I don't have to go back to work until Tuesday, the 2/th!
ahhh did not know that dc - tx - will look into it
oops, that should have been 28th (cat is on top of my hands)
By 1/3! thats quite an edit.
mornin babblers!
morning, EvaN?
Morning, eva!
! rather :)
g'morning Eva
did the editors use a meat slicer or a chainsaw to do the trim?
how is everyone, this lovely FRIDAY (!!) ?
story was maintained , but they sacrificed character developpment and sub-plots.
Good question BabbleRabble and hello Hi EvaN!
Hello, BR!

Does anyone have the ag 8.55?
annie, bureaus maybe
ag8 - service organizations or companies
Thank you! Nonnie and nurse
yw
good clue, nurse
Nonnie, your ears will burn on Sunday. Looked at your profile. Using your line about "perfect babies" when I have the whole clan here for dinner. I'm a grandma and that is a terric verse. Thanks
lol, thank you, nurse. I hope you and your family have a wonderful time Sunday!
ty. One 8 monh old and a 15 month old -- should be lively. Funny how these little ones can do no wrong. Leaving for a while to do some chores. Thanks again. Bye all
does anyone have the first ba 6/24?
bye bye, nurse
the sound the sheep made
sorry, elle--I do not.
I do now! ty annie :o)
ba6 - use the ba4 before it and plural it.
nevermind, just found it!
:)
:)
I am back.
welcome back, scrabbler
I was talking to my friend/coworker. She just returned to work this week, part-time, 3 mo after having her first baby and she is an emotional wreck.
The office was exceptionally dysfunctional yesterday and we all had a bad day.
Oh, poor thing. Such a difficult time for young mothers.
wh6 anyone?
morning scrabbler. I can totally relate to your friend, always hard for me as well leaving the wee one behind
Scrabbler, Leaving your baby for the first time must be very hard....hope today is a better day for all of you
not there yet, scrabbler
Her mother takes care of the baby, so he is in good hands, but she wants more "support" from her husband and I think what she wants cannot be provided by him---emotionally. That is what female friends are for.
I don't have it yet, scrabbler
still can't monkey the 1st ba6/24
wh6 is the word before it + first vowel then plural
thank you, elle!
good day all.
TY, Elle!
Hi bbnaz. I went to bed before your finish last night.
welcome
Scrabbler, then your co-worker is very lucky to have you...
do the sheep sound (ba4) and then plural with a vowel before the snake
elle, the sound the sheep make and then past tense
I am the "big sister" for many female co-workers. I take good care of them and protect them.
Scrabbler, you are wonderful....protection from Mr. Head, also?
I love your icon, BB. Are your initials BBN, and you are in AZ. Or BB in AZ? Shall I call you BB instead of bbnaz
ty, that just did not look right at all
hi everyone! happy friday :)
did you get it, shawnee?
hello realite!
{{raelite!!}}
oh yes, ty annie, it just didn't look right
Protection from narcissist boss, Richard Head, and from Bully Office Manager, Cruella DeVille.
((annie)) :D
Hi rae
lol scrabbler!
hi non and scrabbler and everyone
a scrabblers work is never done
scrabbler, you have quite a crew to contend with and I know you can handle those beauties
good morning rae
It is such a dysfunctional, toxic environment, but I just do my job, take care of the kids and parents and shut out the nonsense. I work part-time so that I can have a nice life away from that place.
hi shawnee, how are you?
oh scrabbler - I hope things get better for you at work!
Oh, I don't expect that they will improve. I gave up on that fantasy.
scrabbler, the two words....kids, parents....you know the situation and you handle it in you perfect way
I found si6 on my own---Mexican naptime.
I worked in a similar environment (it was medical too) I had to quit
*your
Good for you, scrabbler!
good afternoon everyone:)
hi jean
hello, jean!
Hi jean
Annie, I am starting to be a "concierge" pediatrician by giving many parents my home phone # and e-mail address, so that I can take good care of them and protect them.
I think all patients should get tootsie rolls
and dont forget the lollies!
There just aren't great options to switch too, as the area is economically depressed. Plus I am able to work part-time and control my hrs.
Scrabbler, you are a wonder!
I'll send you super-happy vibes!
Haha, when I ask kids if they want a sticker, at the end of the visit, I get some funny responses. One kid said, "I don't want a sticker, I want a Happy Meal!"
Smart kid
Smart kid
Annie, Rae, I am just trying to find solutions outside of the box.
ahaha, that is cute!
Scrabbler, how is your friend doing?
it's amazing that you are allowing your patients to phone you personally. that's incredible!
Mary is exhausted from chemo and brain radiation, as expected.
Rae--I am selective--none of the crazies, of course.
raelite, once in a while a doctor comes along who gives a damn but at what cost to herself
lol! a coworker I had once gave my personal phone number ot a couple of crazy patients...it's one of the reasons I quit!
Scrabbler, I will pray for Mary from now on
I do things the way I think they ought to be done.
TY, Annie. Mary is so needed by her husband and kids, and others.
"when you do something right, people won't know you did anything at all"
uh oh...I hear my husband heading this way. I think my turn on the computer is up, for now . bbl, take care, all.
bye nonnie
I cannot meet everyone's expectations, as in the parents that demand an antibiotic prescription from me.
bye nonnie:)
And hi Jean, I overlooked greeting you.
Here comes the sun--to melt away the snow we got overnight.
thats no problem Scrabbler, good afternoon to you:)
I have to get going with my day--meeting a friend for lunch at 11. I shall return this afternoon. Enjoy the day.
How many words total, anyone?
bye scrabble
be back soon....
be back soon....
Bye Scrabbler have a nice lunch:)
bye scrabbler, have a scrumptious lunch..poof
bye annie
bye Anniebrook:)
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it's all right Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right
question of the day... ive been training with a coworker so i can learn her tasks since i have to do them when shes out for thanksgiving... im feeling pretty comfortable with them (despite the techie people still not giving me the rights i need on my own computer) and told her i didnt need to sit in on the morning ops today since i had other things i needed to get done... but now i know shes got to be working on some other stuff (which i also feel comfortable doing) but im wondering if i should go over and sit with her anyway... (id just as soon not, as ive been so swamped lately and would enjoy a relaxing friday!) should i say something or keep mum?
ask her if she's doign something you need to know via email or messenger
yeah, i guess i should say something... i just know shes gonna want me to come over there for practice, even though i just dont feel like it today... :/
If you feel comfy with the tasks, I'd just let it go. You know you can cover when she's gone, and that's the important thing. No need to waste more time than needed. :)
Once again, can somebody tell me how many words total today?
135 today :)
Thanks!
hi, elara! How's chorus going?
Hiya! Chorus is great. We've started our "holiday chorus" (we invite guests to sing with us for the holidays), so it's been fun getting back into the carols. You?
Holiday chorus is so much fun! We had a music team meeting last night -- getting ready for regional in the spring and trying to decide whether or not to recycle our international songs. :o)
Heh, yeah, I can go either way on that. Easier to recycle, but not as exciting/challenging. :)
Exactly! Have you all gotten much snow up there yet?
Not a bit. It snowed for an hr or so the other day, but nothing stuck. It's been in the 50's lately!
That's one of the things I miss about living up north. We just don't get much snow down here at all. Of course, I'm sure you all aren't minding the 50-degree weather! :o)
Knowing that it'll get colder soon enough, no. ;)
Suppose I should get back to work now. Chat with you later! :)
have a great day! :o)
okay the 8 and the 9 are gone........
have the 8, wouldn't refuse a clue for the 9 ;-)
Good morning, all. Please reverse Bonkler's request... I have the nine, but not the eight. Thank you!
ag 8, actors rely on these groups to find them work and represent them to producers
Bonkler, the eu9/66 sounds like the tube within the ear canal... but plural...it's not the definition, though!
Oh, doh! Thank you, bonkler!
eu9 hmmm monkey twin powers activate lol
:-)
i monkeyed right off of your clue, scarlet - thanks!!
monkey victory declared! thanks scarlet
Yahoo, bonk!!
Wow... that's great, Jen~~
hi again :)
Hi, Ata!
must dash, have fun all
'Bye!
still cant get the 9 even with scarlets clue perhaps i should have been in bed long ago
Scarlet -- have you ever seen Mona Lisa?
EU + don't go (drop sometimes vowel) + another word for oceans but not same spelling
a homonym for oceans (four letter word)
NO, bb... another wish unfulfilled... but, it fascinates me no end... I will be back in a flash... beloved just came home and he needs help! :-)
Brendiboo, did that help?
i am still trying bb perhaps i have already turned off my brain
its not as impressive in real life as it should be
so true Ata. If you can even see over the heads of all the Japanese tourists who flock to it the instant the Louvre opens.
exactly
I prefer the D'Orsay Musee anyway
just as I prefer the V&A in London
Musee d'Orsay is fab. And the V&A
might go to the V&A tomorrow
naste
Brendiboo, try eu + a smoke****k + the end of the ag8
the d'Orsay building is worth the price of admission
have you been in the Gallerie Lafayette domed building?
yup
brendiboo, eu -- word beginning sounds like tube that gets blocked in ear problems
my sister and i were trying to lie on the floor to take a photo of the dome. the french of course were not amused
LOL
eu + plural of mr keach
I'm going up to London tomorrow, and I'm trying to decide which museum to spend the spare hours in
I am just a huge fan of the V&A. Found the British Museum to be disappointing. Of course there are many more to come and explore. We did stumble across the London Museum which was actually quite interesting if you wanted a good sketch of London.
oh I *love* the BM. And the Natural History Museum. And the Soanes Museum. And the National Portrait Gallery
back for a little while... hoping to be able to finish today's grid on this hectic day
mr keach?

See mmy icon clue, ruru
good afternoon all. how many words in the grid today
135
thanks scarlet
afternoon everyone! anyone else tired of rain?
Hi, Uniquity... I wish we could say that!
You're welcome, prty!
I'll share mine...it's so dark and dreary out it feels like night in here
We had such an odd day yesterday with snow showers and thunder... very cold temperatures and wind!
Ask just about anybody in Britain for an answer to that, Uniquity. And good morning all/afternoon to the Brits.
Hmm...thunder and snow.
Sounds beautiful
Hello Haz! Someone called it "thundersnow" yesterday and I like that!
It was, Uniquity... as long as I didn't have to be outside in it.
Hello Scarlet! Today's grid is a more leisurely one, though I liked yesterday's.
Most beautiful things are best appreciated from afar :)
an 5/15 the last one not the plural
I can't believe i have 33 more to go .. I am not seeing anymore ....
an5 - German worry and fretting
I truly enjoyed yesterday's puzzle, Haz... this one seems to be going too quickly. I enjoyed that very sad poem, Haz.. new to me, and touching.
thanks haz
It's a wonderful poem, studied it in the original at university and it has always stayed with me.
ruru... maybe a little break away from the grid will give you fresh eyes in a few moments?
You're welcome,ruru.
It has depth and compassion... I felt that way looking at our modern dinosaurs of a rhinocerous and African elephant, as well as, believe it or not, crocodiles.
hello folks
The connecting thoughts of "Where have you been for millennia.. and where are you going?"
Hi, pinkhatlil!
I think that was what was so thrilling about seeing animals in the wild - we looked at them, they were free to look at whatever they wanted.
Hi Scarlet how are you?
You have had the ultimate experience, Haz... and no weapons to eradicate their feral beauty.
I am well, pink... and you and yours? ARe you in fine fettle?
I bet the guides had rifles with them!
No doubt, Ata.
They certainly did at night when patrolling!
I bet!
we are well scarlet, i am looking forward to my first christmas in my new flat
But I think they would only be used as a last resort. No effort was made to shift the elephants and hippos who decided to graze in the camp.
Oh, you have moved, pink? I vaguely remember you using someone else's computer, but did not know that that was in anticipation of a new flat! Best wishes in your new place, pink!
Hippos are fascinating... in or out of the water... I saw a History Television program on some of them getting sunburned when the water tables were critically low.
They can be mean... but I think they're great.
thanks scarlet, i was using someone else's computer to babble as i miss you all
Awww... well, you're "home" now, pink! :-)
Okay, I have been a wastrel too much this morning... must make garlic/parmesan/angel hair pasta for us... (sorry, Haz, I know you detest garlic)... but we love it!
That's okay - just keep the parsley handy!
That too! :-)
Enjoy your cooking. I should get my ironing done and not be a wastrel either.
Bye for now - back shortly....
BOO!!!.....hI EVERYONE!
scarlet I have googled the seal and nothing states what the name of it is .. can you help?]
even I recognise that and I'm not American!! :P
I obviously watch far too much tv
hi, Babble! I am BACK.
hey flask, atalante, and rururocks!!!
hi pink
hi pink! hows east london doing after the fire?
hey it's angelsong!!
we are in our new house, and it's just wonderful.
that's great! when did you move in?
Yesterday, we got the keys at closing. it made me cry when she put the keys into my hand.
that fire is across the river from me it was quiet scary. the environmentalists told everyone to stay in because of the toxic fumes left be the thick black smoke.
awwww. congratulations
Congratulations Angelsong!!!
clue for the first ba 5 please?
I'm already planning Thanksgiving Dinner.
past tense of what sheep do.
oh geez i spent a fair amount of time looking for h's in the top row.
I got everything connected again pretty quickly.
oh lol...duh on my part ty
that's not a duh, who knew that was a word (except for sandie :)
oh dear Leslie. LOL
I got it purely out of frustration by banging it in and I was astonsihed when it was right!!!!!
hi everyone
hello bubble
hi all ! - back with a mere 57 to go ...
Mornign all...help me out...I do not understand why we have words in wordfineder list that the puzzle says are not int the dictionary....for instance, debags is a word but not recognized by our grid
ga 5/14?
that is the beauty and mystery of the enable dictionary, buttonman
my icon perhaps ruru ?
button, i know that babble uses the enable dictionary, not the one used by wordfinder. i don't know if that helps
expalin to me what the enable dictionary is please and where do I find a copy?
hello montreal
the second one I have your icon
thanks
hi Leslie
Morning all. Oh, Buttonman, don't get me started on the inadequacues of A2Z wordfinder.
and futhermore, on the inadequacies of it !!!
sorry judi - couldn't help it
hello judi
inadequacues sounds good though!
clue for the eu9 please?
yes ata, nice combo word...
Sorry, went to France there for a moment. You know what I mean! :))
lol Judi... I know
thanks, Leslie Ann and Atalante, Judi
Damn vowels all look alike after a while.
for vowels, french beats english 6 to 5.5...
eu9 = eu + actor ++++y Keach + french fr***
does anyone have the ag8?
not me pink...
central intelligent A's (plural)
the place where actors go to get representation
something to do with the preseidential seal
Fab clues on the 8 and 9. Ty.
ah thanks rae
i got it that was a much better clue thank you
and ata, and ruru
anyone have the ne 6?
tx ata rae and ruru for the AG8
ne + montreal's icon
to disregard
I just started ruru. Basically, I have SQUAT at this moment.
that's impossible, there's no q
thankyou montreal!
Nevertheless...
:D
yw bubble - it was today's icon theme and, for once, i followed the theme !
lol leslie
i dont even now what it means
lol
look at a dictionary ;)
eu9 uniform changes in sea levels...
bubble, it means you think you've proven something and then someone comes along and proves you wrong. they ne6-ed your argument
I ahve been playing for hours and I have squat too judi ..lol
80 down, 55 to go... struggling a bit...
*faceplants into keyboard* Time for more coffee. BBIAM.
can someone make a different clue for the ag8 plz
placement ag*******, travel ag*******...
CIA or Secret Service
Real estate ag******...
yup, sea level changes resulting from (mainly) glacial processes
Amen, Ata. "Global Warming" is bunk.
bunk ? BUNK ??
Or, if you prefer, bunque.
the arctic has lost a million square miles of ice in summer 2007 - average was 50,000 sq.miles - not bunk...
I'm not sure that's what Ata was saying, Judi!
everyone's entitled to their own opinions though
its not, but actually I do kind of agree!
happened many other times in history.....even before man invented the engines and created "greenhouse gases"
opinions, of course: but facts are facts !
Report on CNN last night... warming/cooling is decadal and part of the normal cycle of planetary flux.
tis true
facts are facts
It is absolutely true that there are normal cycles of warming and cooling. It does not follow that all warming is normal.
Which is not to say that I don't support fossil fuel alternatives, recycling and protection of the environment. Those are all essential.
the climate changes naturally. There are a huge number of different cycles. But our effect lies over the top of those
it has happened before in history of course... but not this fast...
History has only been recorded for a very short time in comparison to the existence of the planet. Who's to say what really happened 10,000 years ago?
well, 10,000 years ago we know. Ice core data
you beat me to it, ata!
There is plenty of prehistoric data.
so what do we do? China and many other growing industrial nations wont comply with regulations so all the jobs will go there because of the high cost of labor and equipment in complying nations
cute pic unea, did someone make that for you?
clue for the te6 please
Paleoceanography and palaeoclimatology was one of my majors at uni :P
hey, leslie--nope-- grabbed it a long times ago from somewhere on the web!
plural of to make fun of someone, bubble
te6/18 - conjugate the verb te5 - to pull someone's leg
no easy answers sharidan...
ah. it looks like the girl from peanuts
that's what someone said yesterday LOL
can i have some clues 4 the 8 and 9 letter words please
the ag8 was clued around 11:30, coolgirl
thanks
and we're just discussing the eu9!
True. No easy answers. For the most part, I think most modernized societies are taking steps to correct the errors of their polluting ways. Not all. China, for example, is pumping all kinds of pollutants into our air at an alarming rate.
well it would be kind of hard to pull that out of the discussion, ata ;)
many "modern" societies are only paying lip service . . .
the problem is, to correct the effect we have had would take more change than any developed country would be prepared to accept. its very much now a case of trying to find the least harmful way
well yes .... :P
but the US gov. won't !!! - even the canadian gov. whos signed Kyoto, doesn't want to really try...
sorry ive just got in from uni so havent had a chance to have a proper look at the chatter
precisely
gotta run--BBL
np coolgirl... ag8 is government ag******, like CIA - the a plural
bye unea
and bear in mind that Kyoto isn't brilliant either. It doesn't go half way far enough
It seems the cost to change and the oil lobbyists are more influential than the good of change.
eu9 = eu + actor ****y Keach + french fr***
very true Ata...
by the way, i appreciate the respectful political discussion... no name calling at all ;)
that's Babble Land leslie !
hear hear leslie. we should be able to discuss things like this here without anarchy descending
Politics we do pretty well with. Clue styles.... not so much!
We're all adults here (knock on wood that that statement doesn't summon trolls!)
lol vic
That's why I like the Babble community
*whispers* dootie heads!
well even here some arguments have gotten heated... not often but it happens. it just seems to me, especially lately in the us, that politics can't be discussed rationally/respectfully at all
yes especially because most people here are willing to let other people have different views without getting angsted
Thanks for keeping it real, Judi! lol
That's for sure, Leslie. Talk about name-calling!
lord, it has been one disaster after another this morning!
I've had to fix 3 computers already
OMG! ATA used a woooooorrrrrd!

That's really cool. How'd you get in on that?
it should be fun! I like spending time with John. Am trying to scribble him a quicky pic

yw
was doing same until 2 days ago mom - when asked, was told the theme was written in "Babbler"'s profile !! - yes, there is a player called babbler...
I didn't know that... perhaps I'll try a new icon some time.
Babbler is a way old face here, but she doesn't come on as much as she used to now
i kept seeing, in the chat log, references to today's theme ... so i inquired...
I'm still a newby. Only been babbling since late Oct. when my sis showed me while I was visiting her.
Ata -- im also an old face around here, but seeing the date in your profile, youre a slightly older face than i am!
oh yes, I've been here for ever LOL
talking about babblers not being here often, i haven't seen Jellen, NancyBoy and the lovely ToeSockMonkey (or something close) in a long while - anyone of you did ?

Or it's because Lori and I are credit cardless and cheap
Guten Tag, I joined about two years ago . Speedfreak was a regular then

Hi Angel
ok, thanks
anyone have a clue for the ag 8?
Hi, all. nan, it's my icon today.
the eu is not ear-related, but has to do with sea levels
ag8 is travel ag****** or cia*******
ag8 - a bit twisty to see but these are organisations where you might go to get temporary or permanent staff
hi all!
Hi TOwl
ty scarlet
Hi, lynxxx, bubble, TO, inge, Robo and Lucien.
Hello Scarlet
And inge, too!
hi scarlet
You're welcome, nan.
thanks lynxxx
got it
How is today's grid for everyone?
i have 33 left
after yesterday's monster any grid would be great, I flows quite readily
Then you have a good jump on it, Robo! I agree, inge... but yesterday was so much fun!
it, the grid, no me
LOL.
the words aren't hard but I am taking forever to find them, not using list yet though
I know what you mean, lynxxx... and I am forgetting simple plurals.
back; hi there Scarlet and bethany
Hello, Lucien, and hi, bethany!
any grid is fun for the first 250 words, then it drags, and my computer, or server, or babble expert cannot handle the whole thing
yay Scarlet !
:-), montreal.
hello - i have been "skulking" for a while
I broke yesterday into four different grids, so it was more enjoyable than a chore! Good to see you again, bethanyej!
ba 6/24?
I could never do any grid in one sitting myself, I always have lots of breaks, get bored/restless
pl ba 4/6 nan
same here lyn
I get achy in the lower back... but it is such a driving thing to DO it... LOL
montreal... that is one strange word... can't wait to look it up when I'm done!
ty -- never wouold have come up with that!!!
And, thank you!
the dict. connected to the ? doesn't give out anything for that ba6/24...
i was doing fine, but I am down to 19 words left and am running out of gas - maybe I should actually work for a while!!! What a novel idea!
Let me look in my OED, montreal.
LOL, beth!
lol beth...
how many words were in yesterday's grid?
over 400 angel
Montreal... it is not in there... I have Baade; Baal; Baalbek then, on to baba. 415, Angel
all moved in Angel ??
tx Scarlet...
almost, Montreal. spent our first night here last night.
does anyone have the ba5/14 that is not cooking-related?

Montreal, I am searching for the baases word, and have stumbled upon a bio of Mewa Ramgobin, born in Inanda, Natal. The word was used to describe bosses on the rail lines... but I am digging for more information.
that explains it - is is made up HAHA
*giggle*
BBL get some stuff done before I get the list out, cannot see the last 25
red -- doesn't it sound like a word made up for a children's rhyme?!
Maybe South African... used in the sentence: "The more humorous in the compound had observed that the young madams and the young baases must not be disturbed and frightened by the sight of black aliens like Elias late at night."
Hi all again!
LOL... fruit, I would not be surprised at anything in Babble.... Hello, dear Flask!
or something from Jabberwocky ;-)
Hi Scarlet, I thought you were done........when I saw you leaving earlier....
bosses on the rail lines !! strange word indeed
From what I can intuit, and it may be a longshot, is that baas is boss in English... ?
a 'phonetic' spelling?
No, Flask... I had to feed us and became involved in pasta with garlic, parmesan and other goodies. :-)
makes sense scarlet an afrikaan word...
Yes it sounded delicious...yummy!!!!!
en6 and en7 not having to do with surrounding something?
With the double vowel formation, it probably is... and then incorporated into known English usage.
1 guest arriving ! - must go - happy babbling all - and tx scarlet for your efforts
thanks for your research, red!
It was, Flask. ;-)
bye all - "POOF"
Mmmmm..........so you didn't save me any????
'Bye, Lucien... any time!~
But I did, Flask... isn't that the postman knocking on your front door? LOL
I still think fruittart is closest: Jabberwocky! LOL
NO!!!....*growling*!!!!
I love Montreals icon...
Someone, Quickly... throw pasta over Flask!! Fruit, where are you...?

Don't you dare, Scarlet.......!!!!

all four words are VERY alike!
excellent :)
OH! Doh! Fish pounding due my head! Thank you Flask and fruittart!
yw
anymore clues needed?
now just one more! a ba6/24 that i am just not seeing...
How about a clue for the de7/40 after the master painter?
robo -- it's the weird one red was researching for us.
add a vowel on to the one before it Robo....
Scarlet it belongs to him!!
How a very elite snob would pronounce the instrument played by Yo Yo Ma on occasion...
Oy, Flask, that is another strange word! Am I in the Twilight Zone today?
Scarlet did it help?
Thank you for the clue!!

Not cello.

Thanks for the help, too, meliae... much appreciated!!
Flask... a clue is a clue is a clue... You helped me, and I appreciate it very much! *Hugs*
I am having trouble with the little words on this one and finding the big ones quite easily lol
yay, scarlet! ;-)
Thanks, fruit... now we have the ventriloquist doing Roy Orbison though his odd-ball hand puppet... my eyes... LOL
afk a few
Later, mel... it's like that for me, too!!
is it not still yesterdays video?
I think yesterday was the channelling of Kermit the Frog singing "It's not easy being Green"....
i never see a video after the fireworks :-(
You know, Flask... we had such a busy day, and the grid was so big, that I barely remember seeing the video... Fruit, e-mail Lickety (address on his page) and he will send you the Beta version that we are testing for him... you get fireworks, but also a video that changes daily... some are brilliant and some are just flat-out weird!
Oh right........they look very alike to me....lol
Exactly, Flask!
I very rarely watch them to the end anyway!
there are videos after the fireworks? I must not be special enough yet...
time for me to get some work done! bye all!
So, I'm not the only one not to watch the videos? Hello all!
clue for last de 6/24 please
He has consolidated all the resources, and made the Babbling experience much more streamlined... absolutely a mega-brain with this! Bye, fruit... will you e-mail Lickety?
OH, Haz... most of them must be aimed for much younger folks... I guess I am not "cool" enough to get them... so, peep, and away.
H All!
I dont even have babble expert lol
I just don't think I'm patient enough to stay watching.
Wondering if I could get a little help with ag8,55?
i never get to see the videos because im babbling mostly at work, and i cant download the stuff... course, i also dont finish most grids anymore either...heh
See my icon, PinkHat.
pink -- CIA is one of many government AG8
yes
Eva- hello! Any word on the job front for your boyfriend or is it too early?
ty :)
Oh, PinkHat... on Fridays, we use a clue icon to help other players.
oh
still too early, im afraid... though i may nudge him to call/email them on monday to see if theres any news...
hmmm
:-)
Okay, hope the news is good when it does come.
How do you choose which clue you use for your icon?
me too! thanks haz!
Oh look, nearly missed greeting Atalante!
It certainly would be a wonderful "Thanksgiving" for you both, if he were to be hired, Eva.
You just pick one and quickly edit your account profile, Pink.
cool!
The last de6/24 rhymes with what infernal is learning to do in yoga (be4/7)
What on earth have I missed now, Haz?
(That was for bookwomen)
ty got it and firewords
Congratulations!
aint that the truth, scarlet! id love to have all the drama from the last few months over + done with for the holidays!
Well done, bookwomen!!
Herinfernal is hoping to lose weight, she has taken up going to the gym and is doing yoga also.
Here's hoping, Eva!
*fingers crossed!!*
Ahhh... I did not know that, Haz... yoga... hmmm. Is that not supposed to center one and teach peace to one's surroundings?
Apparently. With practice.
Or, rather, to find the peace of one's surroundings... she seems to have a great deal happening all at once... I read something the other day about her studying something in the realm of justice... law enforcement... an attorney... I know not what.
She's doing legal studies, but I'm not sure what she'll be qualified to do at the end.
Or is it legal administration? Something along those lines.
I am rather confused by all of this, Haz. Just a few weeks ago, Lady was talking about getting some sort of "mental illness-related state pension"... I am flabbergasted now...
Yes, she does get some sort of pension but is studying as well.
Due to extreme depression and some other, related stressors which rendered her incapable of dealing with life on many levels...
Well... that is good news for her. It will give her focus and purpose.
clues for the last de6/24 please?
What bears have done in the winter, Shawnee.
However, she has realised that she hasn't completed a course in the time available and there are problems arising from that. There may be a delay in finishing the certificate.
de6/24 - to rhyme with what the flexible body can do (be4/7)
she does seem to change her mind rather a lot
Oh, my, Haz. Time frames are essential to success... this lady confuses me every week. I hope she can find something to dig into to take her into the light..
I think she was annoyed at the university's attitude to her.
Oh?
thank you. *think monkey think*
I think she thought they were snooty or words to that effect.
well they tend to be if you dont do things on time
ah hah!! got it.
Great, Shawnee!
Well done, Shawnee.
I have heard way too much paranoia about the world at large aimed inwardly... this is another case of that it seems... some individuals seem to attract "attitude"
DONE!
Yes, somehow I don't seem to find myself surrounded by quite so many idiots and morons.
and without any clues this time!
Well done Jayde!
thanks Haz
CYA
So it is a certificate.. then not a degree? Exactly, Haz... neither do Beloved and I. Yahoo for Jayde!!
"Bye, Jayde!
I think it's a certificate, or maybe there's a series of certificates leading up to something bigger, I'm really not sure.
I wish her well, and it will be interesting to see if this can be accomplished without the inevitable drama...
Hi...am back!
Hello Flask - going to look at your icon..
do you know who he is Haz?
Hello, Flask.

He's a saint? Beyond that, no I don't.

If he'd had a kilt on and a wee tammy, it would have been easier!
Am paying homage to him......it was Scarlet I was chatting with about him....
Congratulations meliae.
:-) And I need a head swat... I used the word in the description... Doh!\
Ah, that explains it. I wasn't havering then?
Yahoo for Meliae!!
Yeh.....he doesn't look too healthy to me actually!...lol

You are too kind, mel! :-)
thank you must run tons to do today
oh Scarlet....lmao.....
well done meliae...
I am a dolt. Flask, some days I think I've really lost it... and I don't even know what it is... LOL
do you ever put words in and then think to yourself....wait!...I have already entered these words already??
Oh, company! See you all soon!
See you Scarlet!
ok...bye...Hugz to you!!
Flask - I sometimes see the words, then assume that I've entered them. Truth is revealed when I'm trawling later to find what I've missed.
Haz have you ever done that?
it must be what am doin' too!
hi all.i think i'm losing it as i'm going to bed seeing grids and waking up seeing grids, i just wish dr g, would use my grids, atleast i would know all the words!!1
And there have been times when I would have sworn that I had already entered them.
Hi lillian...how are you?

Hello lilliann. I think about grids and the people in the chat log.

another word I should have said!
de6/24 - made up of the letters surrounding hw in the grid, and rhyming with what the flexible body does (be4/7)

clue for the 9?
Hello peri, yes, I don't think you'll find too many problems. Look - you've got started already...
de627 and 7.40 anyone
Evening All That sounded a bit Dixon of Dock Green to those that remember B&W UK TV
may I have a clue for the 8 and 9 please
eu9/66 - think in the general direction of ears and tubes. eu plus a plural form of a male/female name, as in Mr Keach.
de6/27 - to destroy something's value, de + baseball safe spots
de6/27 is to belittle someone
and plyral
Evening, FMitch (respectful touch to the bobby's helmet). Dixon was SO reassuring.
ty haz got it
hey, peeps
hi fm
Here comes the snow! 10 inches by tonight!
ag8 - plural form of the sort of place where James Bond works out of, him being a secret one and all.
lol glad you remembered Haz. Hi lill

thanks Haz, got the ag8
Well done peri and Esprit.
I am drinking hot decaf chai latte from Trader Joes. I really like it.
the joys of lake effect, scrabbler?
Is Scarlet around?
Oooh Scrabbler thats a lot of snow!
Scarlet was around until a little while ago, when company arrived, peri.
Scrabbler, just make sure you keep all the snow where you are :)
Yes, cold air from the west, heading across Lake Erie = snow machine
I just opened Babble Expert today for the first time. I don't seem to understand directions for forwarding my word list from Lickety's page to the grid. could I get some help, please?
you can keep it scrabbler
we don't want it here
LOL
i'm guessing that means my family in Cleveland and Western NY are in for it, too then.
Snowball fight tomorrow, anyone?
Hey, DC, I am in WNY
Sorry can't help tyger, I don't use Expert
There should be buttons at the top, Send words to babble or send words to clues. Hit the appropriate one. If not 'coloured' refresh.
Tyger--the words automatically end up on the list
not if you don't have it turned on to do that, they don't :P
I have family in Chautauqua County, i'm going to guess that you're closer to Buffalo?
I am near Springville, DC
tyger - use the buttons at the top - send words to babble.
Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties have major snow alerts today
oooooooooh. I see the button at the top, now haz. Thanks a million. Wow, that is so cool, watching the words pop into Babble!
i've relatives in Jamestown, Chautauqua, and Bemus Point.
Isn't it? Saves all that retyping.
Good old brusied Lickey.
yeah. All that, and fireworks, too! :D
Bruised, battered, but not defeated.
Neat, DC. AS a child we took annual summer vacations in MAyville, and always went to the Midway Amusement PArk in Bemus Point--this was the pre-bridge days when we had to drive all around the lake.
Yahooo Tyger
Congratulations tygerbryght.
i remember when they built the bridge, and we often drove through mayville instead of taking the ferry.
Yay, TYger!
Anyway, DC---snow is here.
thx. all the miserable, frustrating work of typing words in twice is GONE! yahoo, indeed! ;) :D Lickety for president! :)
LOL tyger
afternoon all! How much snow, Scrabbler?
hey, mom
So if Lickety were president, what would mrpresident become?
Tyger, if you ever do Babble from another computer (as when I am at work) then you will remember how slow and inefficient the old way is
Hi Tyger
do I sound too gushy, mitch? :)
She would be relegated to being Mrs Lickety, remember it was his logon in the first place.
It is coming down hard, Mom, with 10 inches expected here.
oh wow
Not at all tyger :)
First Lady mrpresident.
be safe should you have to go out. But, heck, you are use to it.
Hey Vi!!!
Oh, I didn't realise that. You should be the keeper of Babble trivia and general info, FMitch.
um, scrabbler, have you ever tried copying & pasting the words into an email to yourself as you're entering from the other computer? then you could bulk add them into Lickety's page at home
Hello, FM!
hi mom and scrabbler
Hello Vicuna.
Hello, Haz!
{{Lilliann)) hello
Hello, all.
I have to work tomorrow, Mom, and just gave my snowplow guy a check for $300 for the season.
hi vi
Hi Vicuna
I am sure he will earn it.
Another babble job Haz? I have so many already... unless you are willing to agree that change in my contract?
Great idea, Tyger--TY. At work I mostly am vigilant to not get caught playing Babble, but I do it on breaks.
We may need to go to arbitration to get a decent settlement.
yw. I've been keeping a file of each day's words, so I can re-add them to Lickety's page when I go back to play some more (can never do it all in one session). So it was a natural idea for me.
I was going to say that Scrabbler would probably agree it was a fiar amendment but not so sure these days.
Haha, monkey just found the first 3 se words (6-7-6). Good little monkey.
argh got dragged off to have dinner
Who dragged you off?
You say that like it's a bad thing, Ata.
and monkey's not even an oceanic creature ;)

Her Smugness.
Think of tubes in middle ear, dspike

She can't be smug if she has no title.
yes, I am, and it is awesome.
Ata is the Supervisor of Superior Smugness
MOM, working on unpacking.
True. Her Smuglessness.

What position would you like to have, Ata, in Babble Land?
I'm also the Goddess of Obsessive Creativity
I gotta get outta here. :( back later, if possible
*poof*
bye bye Tyger
Bye Tyger.
I am sure that you are having a good time of it. Getting to place everything right where you want it
Angel, you are the Official Helper for new entrants, and Computer Advisor.
Just as well you're not th Goddess of Obsessive Beautification as that would make you GOB for short :)
Hi , Ifirst time player
I would like to be Official Stocker of the Penalty Box.
Hi Sassy, welcome.
Hello sassy - enjoy the game!
Hi Sassy--please see Angel's site (scroll down) for info.
LOL...I like helping.
Hi sassy Can I offer the role of Carrier of Blame to anyone, if they are interested ... anybody ....
Everyone has a role to play in Babble Land.
thats firmly yours!
Speaking of obsessive beautification, someone with a lot of time on their hands, did a survey and concluded that women in Liverpool looked in the mirror up to 70 times a day!
but only cos we love you
Is the nickname, "Scapegoat", FMitch?
Awwww *stamps feet* and generally throws a hissy fit.
FMitch is to blame. No abdications allowed.
And FMitch is the Official Tantrum Coordinator
well, she could abdicate, but she'd still be to blame
In which case I am going to insist my lawers ratify the Australia clause.
watching Oprah, bbs
bye Peri
si 6.18?
Bye peri
sorry Sharons, don't have it
Yes, if she doesn't get what she wants she'll go to Australia where people will treat her better.

Eeek don't send me down under!!

Now, now, FMitch, think of all the babblers you already know.
Ata have you read my email on the subject
Okay, maybe I've deliberately misread the finer details of your Australian clause....

*heads towards the penaltybox and my favourite cupboard to hide in*

you don't come here without a conviction
Good morning mrpresident! We're going to send FMtich down under if she doesn't accept that she is always to blame.
Have you seen her parking tickets?

TeaN C--where have you been?
I feel a greater bond with my Babble buddies across the pond when I drink tea and Babble with you.

Hi all, I'm back from errands... and here's a funny monkey story: I had four words left when I logged off. I was monkeying a 'b' word and didn't realize I got it til I cam back (2 hours later)!
Hi phandmd, congrats for your finish. 29 to go for me
Sneaky monkeys

Can someone please explain how you know what words you still need (like "eu" or "be")? I'm a bit confused!
And, that's fireworks for me! Didn't last long! LOL!
sassy, if you go to the link "Lickety's Babble CLues" you will find a list of the first two lettters of every word.
sassy, a couple of babblers produce daily lists of the second letter and points values of the words. It can be a great help for working out what you still need.
Sassy--you can scroll down to below..........do what Vicuna just said
Yahooo momof5
Yay for momof5!
Congratulations momof5.
Well, guess I can't put off all those house chores now that I've finished. Need any clues before I go?
Other resources can include online dictionaries like ww.a2zwordfinder.com and www.morewords.com. But just feel free to find some words and get the hang of things as you go along.
thanks so much, that does help a lot!!
the first ga5/14 please
IT'S FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYY!
ga5/14 - plural of methane, for example.
Hi Nutty
ga5/14 - neither liquids nor solids
It's Friday all day! Hello Dr Nut.
TY, Haz--I thought it had 2 snakes in the middle
haz, scrabs, all
Has anyone thought to warn sassy about the addiction? Yayy nuttery!!
It should, Scrabbler.
Plenty of time to warn her after it's too late, FM.
In any reputable dictionary it would have, Scrabbler, but we're talking enable here.
(or him, of course)
Tee hee
Nut, I thought of you when I recently met a new mother in the office. She and her husband just moved from SOuth Park, PA.
SSSSHHHH, FMitch, we'll trap her first, then hit her with the consequences.
It is definitely an addiction. My sis showed me this game one time and I was hooked!
Uh oh, you're scaring me!!
aha...i like when they make the playoffs, makes me think of the show
Not at all, sassy. Don't worry. The fact that we haven't eaten a decent meal or cleaned our houses or even moved from these chairs shouldn't deter you at all.
It's OK sassy *whispers aside .. it's too late now anyway*
ab 6/24?
YOU might be different.
ag 8 word anyone???????????
ab6/24 - plural/verb form of ab5/14
a + first b*** (pl)
It IS too late, Sassy. You cannot reverse this destiny.
ab6/24 - conjugate the verb ab5 - to grovel
Who needs to cook when the penalty box is always stocked so well?
i dont have the ab 5 14 either vicuna..........
ag8 - the sorts of places where secret people like James Bond might work.
ag8 is the plural of what they call the CIA
ab5/14 is the singular of ab6

ty got the abs too.
got all the ba but the first ba 6/24.

hi peri
HELLO PERI.
you have a lovely hubby lilliann ...he can and do my ironing anytime!
he only does it when i keep nagging him mo!!
I could nag for England and I still wouldnt get my hubby to do it.
no, he is lovely, my ot said that i'm not to do too much with my hands and get people to help with certain things, so when he's at home he irons for me. bless him!
he's no good at hoovering though!!
although he is a wizz in the kitchen ... so I cant complain.
my hubby is a typical northern man,if you don't ask you don't get.well thats his excuse, anyway, and he's brilliant in the kitchen
when I was still working and my husband retired every day I came home all my washing from previous day would be washed ironed and back in the wardrobe!!
well, atleast he can cook mo, that's better than nothing!
we are very lucky then lilliann

nor me.
i had a cinderella husband too, the only thing he won't do is the ironing... he's back at work now though so I have to do the chores on my day off...
well, we wouldn't have to nag if we didn't have men!!!
fireworks
wtg peri!
wtg peri
congratulations peri.
thanks, see you all tomorrow
the only time my husband did the washing and ironing was when I was in hospital.
hi mummy.atleast he helps you mummy.where in somerset do you live?
when was that mo?
once about 18 years ago and once about 5 years ago.
Street, and yes, he's my hero! that sounds a bit soppy doesn't it!
mine washes his work clothes but won't go into the wash basket and see what need washing, but he is good with our daughter and takes and picks her up from school for me when he's home
not at all soppy ... and Street is a lovely place.
When I was in hospital after I had our first baby he came to visit, said he'd done the washing and ironing but the problem with the ironing was that my tights kept sticking to the bottom of the iron!
LOL :)
no, it doesn't mummy, i take the mickey out of mine but i couldn't do without him as he's also my carer.i love street, especially when i need shoes!my nan lives in burnham-on-sea
lol mummy!
Sorry had to stop for a moment. Sadly none of us can have my husband he died last winter. BUT I had a cup of tea in bed nearly every day we were married. Not bad, eh?
Oh, I work for that shoe company in Street, it's surprising how many people know such a small place
I bought a lovely sheepskin jacket from Street many moons ago.
We had a caravan and stopped in Street nearly every year on our way away or towards to stock up on shoes
ahh, deeha, i'm so sorry to hear that, and no a cuppa every morning is nice.
I know Street. Best friend and I kept having to go there to buy illegal alcohol for her sister who was at Millfield
ditto Deeha.
my brother lives in deal deeha and i use to live in dover
I met a lady at a bus stop in Melbourne (australia) a few years ago and a brief conversaton revealed that she had been to Street and bought a Sheepskin coat too, she was aussie and her husband was from somerset.. small world
I hope you are ok Deeha with all this talk of hubbies.
indeed it is mummy.
Sorry to hear that Deeha, we must treasure the little things that our men do for us..
since starting babble mummy, i have found that this is indeed a very small world!

sorry about repeat my computer is playing up again tonight
glad you are coping Deeha.
carlee, it will be difficult for you all to adapt at first, but then you will all get use to it and not know what all the fuss was about. i don't have the same dissabilities as your husband but my life and families has changed due to my disabilities and it is hard at first for everyone to get use to but then it gets easier

the bottom of the ocean
se6/27 - ocean + another name for floor of ocean
how about the first ba6?

ok, didnt see it, thanks!!!
BA 6/24 is a very strange word; plural the 4/6 above it
ba/6 - the 4/6 before it and then plural it.
thanks!
I can't believe that se6 ocean + duffle exists, but the te6 version doesn't
that ba word is certainly a weird one!!
dan, it should be, but you know enable
dan - you are certainly correct on that one

ty phandmd

How many are there today?
ooh...lilli...we can help....hope u don't have to be up early
135 jsmo
Oh! Lil! Not much sleep for you at this rate
my trouble is, is that i chat too much, i should dive in really!
But chatting sometimes is much moe fun.
tis true nurse
sometimes i avoid chatting till i get down to 50 or less
more!!! Can't spell. I guess I better retire. Maybe the brain did leave me with fireworks.
my hubby's home, so bless him, he gets up with the bairn, plus i'm usually dizzy in the morning so i have to stay in bed.good excuse eh!!
How can you tell how many are left?
above the tile stats pmo...tells u the total words...then above the word stats...tells u how many are left
you have to go pro pmo to see the stats and total
at the bottom of "my word list" tells how many u have found thus far
I suppose since I'm not upgraded I won't see
oh yea.... i forgot about that
Thanks all
it's a 135 grid tonite pmo

1st ga5/14 is related to the de word I clued a few minutes ago
he ga4 it to me yesterday, it's right here
very good, leslie
3rd ba 6, mad?
ummm i think so
I guess you got back safe
LA, how old is your kitty in that photo?
les, you missed some great pizza
hmm... probably about 3 months? he is almost 6 months now
they ba6 smoking in restaurants
hi natty, yes i made it to the gas station on E just fine :)
he's a cutie :)
he's not really that skinny, it just contorted the picture to make it into a square
thanks :)
that's a very characteristic kitten expression
i just saw dorell!!
no dammit...i guess i already got that
siamese are often that thin without being at all unhealthy, you know :)
but I know what you mean about squishing the photos
who is dorell, hursh?
hey, hursh! haven't bumped into you lately
he's not siamese, well maybe he is, his mom was a stray calico and we don't know about dad
a sheep ba5, yesterday it ba5. the 4 plurals for a 6 - a chorus of sheep.
the student who got drafted right into the NBA from the school where i was
how many sixes are with B?
Oh!!!!!
he's on the miami heat, but he does not get to play that much STILL. cause they have shaq and duane wade.
give him a skritch for me, please? I love kittens
but i saw him get up from the bench for the huddle
ba6/24, ba6/33, ba6/27, ba 6/24
very cool, hursh
I love shaq, even though he is an occasional blowhard
this is his FOURTH YEAR in the nba, you'd think he would get more playing time.. sigh
you're a big Bball fan, pam?
got 33 got 27 got 24..need a 24 i think
hursh, he'll probably have to get traded to get it
course, he could be a college superstar somewhere by now, if he'd gone that route, but when you have family members that you want to get out of unsafe areas and into somewhere better, you go for the money.
so long as a superstar is producing, they don't risk upsetting him by giving somebody else court time
I am a big football fan, tyger, but love most sports! And, try to follow them. My co-worker and I listen to sports radio during the day--she and I love it!!!!
i will, tyger, he is getting chased by the dog now so it will have to wait until later :)
1st ba6/24 - plural plural sheep noises. 2nd ba6/24 - plural of ba5/14 before it ba5 a turkey or roast.
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
no offense, pam, but I'm glad I don't work with you :)
hey, Min
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
i dunno though tyger, they took him on planning to use him - just, you know, when they took on HS players, they figured on a few years before really using them bc they weren't as big
evening, minver, i'm well, and you?
now of course the rules are different so you can't go straight from HS to NBA
fer criisakes i never seen that b4
glad they changed the rules. it's better for the players in the long run
fireworks
k got it it dc//// need 1 more now
hooray saph!
LOl, tyger. Her husband is a retired Sports Information director and she now keeps up. The radio station comes in-not many do because our office is on top of a converted warehouse, where the main store is located.
the 1st ba6, i don't think any of us had. The enable dictionary is special :D
yay, sap
yes, it probably is. but i still don't blame dorell for wanting to be able to get his family out of the ghetto.
oops, saph :)
k i need an S
I am glad the rules are changed, too
Yay, saph
do you have SI, mad?
mad are you using lickety's?
the one near the U
no les
hopefully he is managing the money well and can get a college education at some point and...
1st game...totally confused
I don't blame him, either, hursh. sometimes I wonder about the reasoning abilities of the people who run the NCAA, I really do
... i think i just saw a five year old singing along to "living on a prayer"
got to 6 left though b4 i haddta ask fer help
Congratulations saphyre on fireworks! Good for you!
do you know how? if you go to the lickety's babble clues under the "friends of babble" heading you can copy and paste all your words in and it will tell you the first and second letters of all the words you need
I see a lot of ca 4/5's in the log today. Wish I had one
hm. mad st*4, have you all of those?
also, if you are confused the "angelsong's babble page" is very helpful
that first sheep noise is a new 1 for this MADD too
k ty..les
dc...
its a 5 letter
Does anyone have a clue for the eu 9/66 word please
eu6 - think inner ear tube and mr Keach's name
the game is tied! just over 2 mins to go!
hi everyone. Min, take a look at my icon for at least one ca4 and the ca
hi lb
madd, there are a LOT of things you'll see here as words you won't see elsewhere - except on a Scrabble board, maybe
thanks everyone
hey, dawg
hey saphy!
the S near the U
hi tyger
and there's a mitty in a cube!
hey, tyger went pro! congrats
thx :)
I've wanted to for a long time
oh, so she did. weclcom, tyger
Hi lbdawger! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
you tslkin to msd or msdd tyg?
LB!
I remember when he introduced the panels. I thought they were the neatest thing I'd seen in ages.
hi Min, i'm fine. how are you tonight? Hi LA
course i cant type now...mad or madd
have to work again tomorrow so need some sleep - have a great night everyone
and today I got to use Lickety's thingie to transfer my words. it was SO neat, watching the words pop in
nite, saph
night saphy
dc...you gonna get me the last word?
tyger, you can email lickety for the babble expert. it's really neat to use.
I've already got it, dawg, thx
that's what I was talking about
:)
% letter S
5
hi, sorry, i'm at work, nad get randomly pulled away, Mad. so, you need an S5?
:-) yeah using the lickety add is so nice to have
do you have the past tense of 'not mad in the clinical sense'
s5 yes
Goodbye saphyre! I will see you tomorrow in the log!
1st sa also has a past
there is a latin vowel one, mad - se* the table + first vowel + second vowel
Thank you for the eu 9/66 clue.I just found the word
yw, minver, odd one, that
i really dont know latin
spanish 6 takes a vowel for a 5
it just means there's an e on the end instead of an s :)
latin plurals with E or I, mad
fun clue for that se, dc!
:) ty, pam
not gertting it
ca 6/27?
se4, meaning 'a stiff hair; bristle or bristlelike part.' has a latin plural
se 5/10 is se 4/4 plus a vowel at the end of the word.
I just checked the auctions I was watching, and they've both gone "too rich for my blood". So I'm gonna hang it up and go to bed. DC is taking care of the clues quite well anyway. :)
and Min and others are pitching in to help
bye tyger! nice to meet you.
take care and good night, tyger
I'm in danger of nodding off, even though I've got music going. Nice to meet you, too, les
g'night tyger!
nytol. see yáll tomorrow, I trust
Goodbye tygerbryght!I'll see you tomorrow in the log
aint gettin it
Mad_TheSwine, which word are you not getting yet?
its an S 5
latin plural of se4, we think, minver
we could better know which word to clue if you put them into lickety's, mad
i dunno how
below the grid, click on Lickety's Babble Clues
se 5/10 is ready *** go plus first vowel plus 2nd vowel
yeah...i know that...but once i get there ..have no clue on what to do
copy your word list from here, past only the words, one per line ithe bulk add box at bototm, add bulk
you'll then see what you don't have clearly
jhc...i will be here much more...but not tonight
tell me the word
what that is, is a list of the first and second letters of every word in the grid. the shorthand ab 5/14 means that a word starts with ab, has 5 letters and is worth 14 points. There is a bulk add under all the spaces for the words
leslie...i really thank you fer the help...but i just wanna get thi s last word and go to bed
Mad_TheSwine copy ayour words from Babble and go to Lickety's and then click on the bulk add/grab and paste your word list then click add bulk&it will paste your words into the list. It is really pretty easy to do
im drun..tired and getting irratated with this last damn S
its 5 letters
sorry, mad, the generally agreed upon rules prevent us from entering words directly into the chat. i can't clue better than min's -- ready se* go + the first vowel + the second vowel
se 5/10 is ready *** go plus first vowel plus 2nd vowel
1st sa4 has a past for a 5. sa4/6 has a plural.
wonko the sa4 has a past for a 5
I think that's about as clear cut as you can get :)
have you sa4 song, plus a a vowel?
dang..i alreadt have that one les
have you pluraled all that can be?
Sorry to interrupt, but I definitely need a clue for this eu9...any thoughts?
ok well that's the one we were trying to clue earlier. There is also se + third vowel + plural letter + second vowel
its pretty clear aint it?
se4 - spanish 6, add vowel for a 5
Hi Uniquity! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
take a se4, in the se5 there
i don't know the person, unique, but others have clued eu + ****y keach + two vowels and plural letter
Min - Back for the end, about thirty more right now. Looking to go to bed with a finished grid.
damn les..that was it
well there you go. you can learn lickety's tomorrow ;)
eu 9/66 is eu plus ****y Keach plus 2 vowels plus snake
i got it finished
nice work,mad
ty fer the help les and spesially dc
well done, mad_theswine. yes, lickety's list gets most of us through many a grid. i used it for my last 30 today.
no need fer the snark fron some though....
Congratulations Mad_TheSwine on finishing! Hooray!
ty minver
Thanks Les.
yw
Thank you - a bit of monkeying got me through that one. Congrats Mad!!
i like your name, uniquity. it's fun to say.
Thanks Leslie...I enjoy it, especially since i've not seen it as a username before.
ba 6/24? the first one
hence making it correct :)
leslie, plural plural sheep noise
that is the most ridiculous word ever.
Exactly! As far as the ba goes, I am still missing it sorry
yes, leslie, it's way up there, i agree
Does anyone have a clue for the ba 6/27 word please
any of yall play ch3zmoi?
no, what's that, mad?
dc just clued it, 9:20 min
ba 6/24 is ba 4/6 plus 2 letter plural ending Uniquity.
its a scrabble sie
ch3zmoi.com?
site
last one i need is ca 6/27?
might i ask where in the world you are, mad?
michigan..you?
I got a ba 6/24 word, I need the ba 6/27 word please
VA suburbs of DC
that ba was nuts! didn't understand until i looked. whew.
that was my guess
this is a fun game
just once a day eh?
you are ba 27 to the penalyt box minerv
oh whoops sorry min, to not allow something, past tense -- like ba**** books
yes, this is a fun game, and a great community of people playing it. :) hopefully we'll see yo around some more
it "flips" at midnight central time to a new game, mad
Hi rururocks! How are you doing? Welcome to te grid
i will be here...nice pic btw dc
hey, ruru, hom gues?
ty, mad, it pleased me when looking for word from the grid today, so lush looking
oops, how goes? (left hand was shifted)
aha got it. fireworks!
congrats, LeslieAnn!
great job leslie!!!!
how do i add a friend?
oh dc, i thought it was "home, guess?"
Congratulations!!
Thank you for the ba6/27 clue. I just found the word
go to the "who's online" tab and add them from there, mad
Congratulations LeslieAnn on fireworks! Good for you
mad, you'll need to go pro to save friends in the chat, i think. you go to who's online, and click Add Friend
do i have to upgrade?
is it free?
what does home guess mean?
good golly
You an't add friends unles you go pro :(
i've been here a year (off and on) without any "friends", lol
ok i have to go, have a great night everyone
poll question: which is more important, human rights or national security
human rights
human rights always...
Goodbye LeslieAnn! I will see you tomorrow in the log
night leslie!
without national security can you guarantee human rights?
poll question: best band...Beatles or Queen?
night LA
queen
i'm watching the democratic debate from thursday
huh?
these are the democrats
the DEMOCRATS
security vs rights: an argument in favor of our future robot overlords ;) http://kfmonkey.blogspot.com/2007/11/l unch-conversations-4223-getting-in-on. html
with national security are ther any human rights?
lol
So what do democrats think regarding that question?
i vote Queen
i thought, no question, duh, human rights. i don't want to purchase my own safety at the expense of others.
Hi Dax! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log!
Remember it was Benjamin Franklin who said "Anyone who exchanges freedom for a temporary security deserves neither" (or words to that effect).
hey Min... i've been here off and on the last few hours
stuck on the last one - can anyone help with the te 6/18, please?
I'm at work and killing some time
nice quote sallyds
i mean, obama said they are not incompatible and in fact they go hand in hand, and i agree with that. but like, in the abstract, if you just answer the question as asked...
"freedom is just another word for nothin left to lose "
Hello sallyds! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
te 6/18 plural of leg pulling.
Plural of te 5, 10, bear.
clinton and dodd said "national security, no question"
freddie said..we will rock you
LOL
-Kris Christoperson
great song, ruru
huckabee is clear on the human rights side
Hello bear13! How are you doin? Welcome to the grid!
well duh! thanks so much, my first fireworks!
well duh! thanks so much, my first fireworks!
Hello jesdraggon! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
he needs to change his name though
He already has a movie though
is a political discussion normal here?
hi minver :) how're you?
hi there :) I've been playing in the background for a bit, Minver
LOL...hurshy
Any clues for en 6, 27?
does anyone seriously think we could handle a President Huckabee??
Congratulations bear13 on fireworks!Hooray for you
he could be the president in disney world or something
LMAO
nice one hurshy
we already have a president dumbhuckabee
yes but
i think names are very important
if you want to run for pres, you cannot have a funny one.
we had one already ruru
why are they important?
Hello Greeny! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Fin! (And yes, names are important. It's the ultimate first impression.)
just ask rutherford b hayes
can you imagine pres Obama?
So someone is less of a person if they have an uncommon name?
i dunno, just psychologically, if you have a funny name, then it's hard to be taken seriously
Pretty good. :) I've only got 19 left. My best grid yet.
osama bama
no, not less of a person, just less likely to be elected president with a funny name
en6/27: put in a ca 4/7
he could talk to the terrorists ... "Obama.. meet Osama... Osama.. meet Obama.. etc"
imagine this: ladies and gentleman, the president of the united states: betty boop!
obama has no chance
I odn't think it is about whether a name is uncommon...it's about the parts of the name (if they happen to be individual words in our language) and the connotations they bring on.
i'd vote for her, hurshy
i am totally 100% voting for obama. his name may be uncommon but it isn't SILLY.
his name will hurt him in the polls
They do find that people are less likely to vote for someone who has a named they find unusual, though. It's kinda sad that names have that much influence, though.
obama is moving up in iowa!
I think he is positioning himself for VP myself
plus..im sorry to say..his rac
e
I think he has a good chance, even with his name
I think he is what we need.
see well also with huckabee he LOOKS fun and jolly
yes that is ture and it will keep him in the race.. he has lots of funding...
i agree ruru, he's more vialble that way at present, due to lack of political background, though i nonetheless think he has a chance at primary nomination
I like him too.. bright, eloquent.. and understands all of the issues
huckabee looks like a guy i'd want to be my fun uncle
hilary scares me
but....
not the creepy kind right hurshy?
lol
we totally need obama. we haven't had eloquence in politics in forever, and i think it would be really good for morale (no not the creepy kind)
its hard fer now to decide
Does anyone have a clue for the en 6/21 word please
a pupa is en6 in a cocoon
en (wrap around) like a box Minerv
excellent point, hurshy
somewhat like just in ...
i have never voted democrat in my life
this will be the 1st time
is that why your first name is mad?
i mean i think obama has good judgment and i agree with him in many ways, it's not JUST his eloquence. but really, i mean, in some ways the president is really powerful but if you look at it another way there is only so much a pres can do, and really i think eloquence is one of the ways a pres can actually be very powerful.
i otoh, never voted repub until i move to Mass. once when i lived in DC for council, and in VA only for John Warner, whos seniority outwheighs my disagreeing w/him.
Thank you for the en6/21 clue. I just found the word
FDR is a prime example of that, hurshy
yw
ive actually only voted once (fer george sr)..but this time..i wil vot e democrat...unless its obama
winston churchill is an example as a prime minister, too
yes he is.
i think obama has the potential to be as eloquent as a churchill or a lincoln. already, he's said things that bring tears to my eyes and give me chills - in the being inspired way, not the sad/scared way, obviously.
civility and eloquence in politics is a good thing. Rhetoric, in the classical sense, has sadly gone largely by the wayside in this country.
he makes me feel like i could be proud to be an american again, he makes me feel hopeful and optimistic. and believe you me, with my pessimistic and depressive nature, that is saying something.
obama..??? are you kidding?
why would i be kidding?
i will vote hilary..but not oboma
Obama over Hilary any day!
of the dem contenders, i would say that he is the most inspiring, though the one minus he carries to me is a lack of political depth, and a lack of visible gathering of knowledgable advisors.
if ohbomba gets the nod i will vote elsewhere
and what will you do when the ticket ends up being hillary pres and obama vp?
why is that Mad? i find her a bit scary, though not to point of being against her.
I think you're right, Hurshy, but you should read the latest Paul Krugman column. It made me sad.
yeah... what then..
vote romney i gues
ewwwwwwwww
talk about scary!
that's a hell of a jump
well dc, i was doubtful about the experience question, until he pointed out that the current white house had tons of experience and look where that got us
i voted for Romney in Mass. His pandering to the far right since going Nat'l has undermined my respect for him.
i will not vote obama....anyone else
hm. thank you for the perspective, hurshy.
that good judgment is more important than experience.
why, mad?
The guy whose six sons have better things to do that fight in the war he's so fond of? They're doing their duty by "working in my campaign.) eww indeed
i dont like him hursh\
he seems fake in the debares
yes, i gathered that. what i was wondering is what you don't like about him. :)
that is not a jump jes that is a FALL
t
*smirk*
bye all, time to get popcorn and settle in for Numb3rs. see you all tomorrow
ciao, dawger
that is odd, most people seem to find him more genuine than many of the other candidates. esp as contrasted with hillary.
night, dawg
The second ba 5/16?
seems to politiciany..sorta like our current prez
past tense of ba 4/6
sally, past of the 4/6 before it
most people?...lool..not around her
that is very odd, he strikes me as totally the opposite of our current pres. are we talking about the same guy?
Goodnight lbdawger! I'll see you tomorrow in the log!
three left and I sure can't see the 8 or the 9
i think so the black guy fronm illinois right?
yes
how can you be so politionary when you are as dumb as a board.
eu8 - think inner ear tube and Mr Keach's name
Thanks dc. It's the obvious ones that get me every time.
eu 9/66 is eu plus ****y Keach plus 2 vowels plus snake
he is a politician ..talking his ass off
he is irratating
eu9 rather
ag8/55 - gov't ag8
well i would be fine with probably any of the dems except maybe dodd, i think
and i would be fine with mccain...
Im with HUrsh on this one.. it would be nice to have someone back in the White House with an IQ
Im with HUrsh on this one.. it would be nice to have someone back in the White House with an IQ
i loved mccain the first time around but i think the moment is kinda gone
That would make a change.
I have no idea what that clue means dc
romney is the candidate whoe most reminds me of our current president.
eu 9/66 is eu plus ****y Keach plus 2 vowels plus snake
I got the ag, thanks, still don't understand the eu
the eu9 clue - inner ear tub, and it's a plural, ends with a common name, usually female
How about ca 6/27? (I've only got 3 left).
who you talkin to oruru/
who else is running? giuliani - has one qualification, he happened to be mayor of NYC on 9/11...
ca6/27 - an other word for manioc, or add most of sheep noise to spanish house
thompson - LOVE him on law and order - would not vote for him on principle, the principle that people who are good actors should stay on good dramas instead of becoming mediocre politicians
yeah..but he is liberal for a pub
rudy i mean
Could I get a second clue for ag8? Your clue went right over my head, dc.
Thank you dc. Another one that I should have gotten. OK, en 6/27?
environmental protection ag*y, plural
ag 8/55 is wannabe actors might use talent ag******\.
ag 8/55 is wannabe actors might use talent ag******.
en6/27- what a zoo or circus animal might be
thanks, dc
Thank you.
I've got that one, dc, it's the other one that has me on the ropes.
ok last one, si6?
en6/27, a pupa isen6d in a cocoon
natl, spanish nap
oh dear, i got all mixed up. i thought bill richardson was mike huckabee!
si 6 is a spanish rest period.
si6 - spanish nap
richardson is the jolly looking one.
I should have gotten that one
thanks all
Whee, fireworks!
huckabee is a republican candidate and i do not know much about him.
yay sally!
Thanks all! I couldn't have finished without you.
my goodness, i think the color on my TV needs adjusting. obama isn't black at all, he's positively orange!
Congratulations sallds on fireworks! Hooray for you!
Either of the se 6's, please?
obviously everyone else is tired of talking about presidential candidates, lol, sorry to keep rambling. i find it all rather interesting, but i know not everyone does.
se6/30 is a compound, you sail on it, and you carry it
se6/27, what's at the bottom of the ocean
seabed
Eep. Sorry.
i've been enjoying that thread, hurshy, very much
but i'm from DC, what do i know ;)
lol
the patriot act is horrid
even the name made it obvious from the get go. if you have to give it a name like that, you're obviously hiding something. it's so 1984.
an understatement if ever, hurshy. and i work at DHS, which i think should be dismantled. we (Customs) belong in Treasury
kucinich is really amusing
they just asked him about voting no on it and he goes, "because i read it."
that's rather scary
greeny, those clues helped?
he is too pure in his ideals to win, of course.
Yes. Thank you.
he, kucinich?
what's rather scary? the implication that most senators did not read the act before voting? yes, he, kucinich
'because i read it', or did i miss something (which would be like me.
so, it is what i surmised, then? the implication.
i know most bills do not get read thoroughly by those that vote on them. sad reality there.
yes.
one of the senators was saying the other day - in the senate, not in a debate - not a pres candidate - that it should not be allowed to add completely irrelevant stuff to bills and THAT REALLY NEEDS TO HAPPEN ASAP!!!
i agree with that. the riders on the bills are rediculous. A rider on an omnibus budget act overruled our medical marijuana vote in DC.
i mean it's bad enough, with the two party system, all the issues that get artificially linked, if you are for one thing you have to be for this other thing, but the completely unrelated riders are beyond the pale
ba6,24 please.
plural plural sheep noise, jes
that. is. dumb.
does that even mean anything?
that. is. enable. LOL
grr! arrg!
yes, hursh, but unless each house adopts rules - which are per session - about riders, it won't happen. :|
they can't pass some law that says all amendments and riders on a bill must directly relate to the main bill?
they could, but that's even less likely, IMHO
i hate that the most obvious sensible things are the least likely things to happen.
yeah, w/u there
and you know what else?
what else, hursh? tell it!
i want a bumper sticker that says DARFUR: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
testify, Sister!
hello babblers
how is darfur not a HUGE ISSUE in the media??
such exist, i've seen them on cars at my UU church.
hello, HK!
I would buy that bumper sticker
Aloha Babblers!
Or Darfur: Never should have started time for it to end
i'm sure many UU and Quaker sites would have such avaiable, hurshy
aloha, fran! :)
evenins hk, pam, fran
i'm sure there are also sites where you can create any bumper sticker you want :)
i was proud of me for finding your icon on my own, fran; plural first, typical me.
hi dc! hi jes! hi pam! hi hursh!
and hi hk!
i mean, i made my boss a custom mouse pad with a pic of his motorcycle on it, so...
hi, jes
probably so, hurrshy :) never looked. I have custom cheques, so i don't see why not.
Yes, there are, hursh
hi back!
yay for you dc!
but like, i just read on the BBC news site today that there's no end in sight in darfur - no prospects for things improving anytime soon - why is this being tolerated??
you found one with a nice array of colors, fran. i'm fond of the blue/yellow ones.
because it's in Africa. Not an excuse, but reality for some decades.
Hello all -- I was timeless again today
hi jilli! i'm finishing my last 36
No end in site at all... And, how long did it take in Rwanda? And why did all those "lost boys" have to wander in the Sudan? History repeats itself....
hello, jillibus
so what can we do about it? i mean, will a bumper sticker do any good?
dc, they're beautiful in any color combination i think
And, big money and oil countries only get involved in Africa and the developing world when it suits them to subvert them...
yep, pam. Japan has done a lot of positive investment/aid, esp in East Africa
I have a mere 80 left -- too busy today making an almost-Julia-Child boeuf bourguinon, silly me
It has really sickened me for decades...
yum, jilli
i'll be right over jili :)
Nice, jilli... I can almost smell it
I have 76 left--wandering off, etc...
i can't say it's sickened me for decades, cause if you go back two decades, i was ten.
i'm done, and glad to clue as needed
LOL...
yay, dc
Hello FranMag, jillibus and helenkeller! How are you all
It WAS yummy, and lots left over -- I'll freeze some (heresy?)
yay for DC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi min!
hiya minver
yay dc!
Hi min! I'm TIRED!!!
if i had KNOWN about it when i was ten, it WOULD have sickened me though.
YAY dc!!!
I am sure, hursh, as you are sensitive!
I'm tired too and I have to work again tomorrow A.M.
sorry to introduce that cookery into a sickening discussion about Darfur
that's the beauty of chatrooms jilli - multiple threads
and you can follow them all, unlike multiple audible convos!
brb, i need to change workstations.
like a cocktail party?
agreed, hursh
yes
i am not good in social groups
yes, I see, hursh
terrible at small talk of course
small talk IS terrible, and SO boring
i still think chase and cameron are the cutest couple ever, although i'm not sure if anything is going on between them anymore

later hk!
oh, sad :(
bak
dc, i just realized i didn't have your icon! *bonk*
Stumped on my last word. Second ag5.
greeny, look at FranMag's icon
LOL fran
there's only one ag5
Oops. Meant to type an5.
epscuse me, fran, are you not going to tell everyone about my WORD
anxiety, german
ooh, i need that one too
Congratulations helenkeller on fireworks! Good for U!
teens have it, liberal arts writing profs aren't interested in writing that doesn't have it
Thanks! First ever fireworks for me. :)
oh yes...everyone! hursh played a bingo in our game...CRAZIEST for 137 points!!!
ok, fading away.... have a good night, all
dang! i always miss that word...perhaps because i never suffer from it.
night pam!
yay greeny!!!
g'night pam!
CONGRATS, GREEny!
didja hear that guys? craziest - with the z on a double point and the c on a triple word!
clue for ca6 anyone?
sweet, hurshy
it was a thing of beauty, and therefore a joy forever
ca6 - an other word for manioc, or add part sheepnoise to spanish house
i might as well resign the game now. *sigh*
Congratulations Greeny on fireworks!Hooray for you
thanks dc!
weird that's really how some of my husband's relatives would pronounce it too.
pronounce what? yuca root?
yes, my husband is Filipino, so the Vs and Bs get interchanged. :-)
not him, just his older siblings and relatives.
ah, that's how it's said in Spanish, also, as V and B are the same.
yuca, manio, ca6. any other words for that food?
ca6 with a V and we just called it tapioca at home
Thanks for the help, guys.
oh, done!
tapioca - i'd forgotten that one. with a V is the norm in parts of africa, where it's not manioc.
congrats, fran!
Congratulations FranMag on fireworks!Good for you!
jilli, how you doing, or have you left us?
thanks min!
Does anyone have a clue for the se 6/30 word please
min, what sailors carry their gear in, compound
What's going on! I ws down to 80 words, refreshed and now it shows I don't have any words.
refresh again, they'll come back
refresh again and don't enter or touch anything until your page loads completely
and don't play ball in the house
Does anyone have a clue for the se 6/27 word please
tried it twice, no luck, guess I'll quit.
wow, i had no clue that regular toothbrushes came in soch an array of colours nowadays
compound also min, the bottom of the ocean
se6/27, what's at the bottom of the ocean
regular toothbrushes have come in a wide array of colors for... a really really really long time
striped and polka-dotted are new to me.
ooh fun
Does anyone have a clue for the ca 6/27 word please
minver, it's a melon
ca6/27 is also a an other word for yuca or manioc
hi une!
or, add sheep noise to spanish house, minver
hey, fran! (just passing through)
good one, dc!
great toothbrush image, une!
LOL!
dc, your te4 icon looks a little like another kind of green thing
not that i know anything about that other stuff
oh, yes, the top row, 3rd from left, very muchso
before I post my toothbrush, please check this icon which I stole from Babbler...
i got it from a green chai website
that's a really nice shot of him, jilli
babs always has great icons, she posts the same ones i wanted to use sometimes.
I am finished! Thank you all for your wonderful clues!
yay min!!!
i like the ones babbleRabble finds.
me too, fran -- her snake was gorgeous
Congrats, minver, well done!
YAY Min!!!
I would love to stay and clue, but I hae to work early
Goodnight to my fellow babblers!I'll see you tomorrow
straw poll. I've a coworker w/a shift of 16-00. He always leaves at 23;30. I've talked to mgmt about this, yet today, again he left at 23:30. I'm wondering should i report that, or start logging, or what?
g'night minver, sleep well!
fran, we may as well pinch babbler's icons -- she so rarely enters the game! Although she said she might reappear...
i'm shift lead when he leaves, for a bit of frame of reference.
i would log it dc and show the frequency over a month's time.
what's a shift lead? what's his job? what field is it?
i work helpdesk at Customs. Shift Lead is person in charge for a given shift.
Don't inderstand, dc -- a shift of 16-00??? leaves at 23;30????
oh yes you said about customs
4 pm to midnight, leaves at 11:30 pm, jilli
ty, hurshy
Oh -- I'm dense. He leaves half an hour early, the cheat.
ty, fran. I know from talking to day supervisor that he's often not hear at 16, which is when she leaves, so they should see each other if he's on time.
do a lot of people call the help desk in that half hour? does it make a difference, or is it just unfair?
so he doesn't have to punch in and out obviously
here, not hear. sigh
no, we don't, we manually fill out time sheet online
He is a cheat, plain and simple
the day supervisor should log every time she leaves and he's not there yet too, not fair to the rest of you.
it leaves us w/out normal night coverage for 30 min - not that there's usually much to do, hursh.
an honor system which he obviously is not honoring.
yes jilli, i know from working w/him on day shift that he's lazy, but knows what he's doing.
QED
personally, and this is just me, i wouldn't do anything about it.
i've reported him twice, as have people on the other team that works nights on my off days
bbs
it's esp annoying as he has an 8-hr, vs our 12-hr shift.
do you feel that you are being paid fairly for your work?
quite so, hurshy
do you feel satisfied with the job and working conditions?
yes, though it impacts breaks on our shift
well again, if it were me...
i mean, when i was in high school
sometimes people would cheat
i didn't necessarily know specific instances but i knew it went on
it didn't bother me, because i was doing my thing and getting good grades and my philosophy was that it really only hurt them.
in your case obviously it doesn't only hurt him
yes, in school very much my attitude. that doesn't impact me in that environment, particularly
but it doesn't sound like it impacts you that much, other than the perception of unfairness and slight impact on breaks?
aside from not providing full coverage for both applications we support, no. That and the lying to Gov't about hours worked.
but it sounds like they are aware of it by now, and are choosing not to do anything about it because they feel the work he does do when he is there is valuable?
not as valuable as the person he replaced, but possibly. OTOH, they're not here when this happens, which i think is a large part of why he does it.
what would you say are your weaknesses, as an employee, if any?
hm.
relative to this job, i don't always adhere as strictly to policy as always i should. I spent longer working with customers than i really should at times.
i only ask because everyone is different
true
personally, i mean, my philosophy about work and the world is that because everyone is different, people should be treated as individuals
it's like, in kurt vonnegut's story "harrison bergeron", they were so obsessed with fairness and equality that there was no room for individuality, and things got reduced to the lowest common denominator
not that this is as bad as that
just illustrates the general idea
keeping one's work hours ought not be expecting too much. Arriving a tad late not unreasonable , knowing what the traffic here is like, and where he lives. But, at mignightish, that's not an issue
well obviously i don't know this guy or the quality of his work
but thank you, that is a useful objects lesson for me. I think i'll seek out that book, or is it a short story?
it is a short story
cool, i'll seek out the volume, then.
i just mean to say that, one person's weakness at work might be something noticeable like missing time, but they might have strengths that others don't have, and someone else might be very punctual but weak in other ways
very, very, true. Thnak you, hurshy.
yw. i'm glad you don't mind my tendency to probe and explore an issue in such depth :) lol
no, not at all, it's good to have an outside opinion, and you need context, and you presented it all in a way that provided me insight, too. :)
and a perspective that i lacked.
good luck with however you decide to handle the situation!
thank you.
gosh, i haven't been up this late in ages, only half an hour to the flip! did i scare everyone away or are they just done and coming back then?
dunno. often they start filtering back near to flip
i think it being the friday night before a 3 day week is going to my head
:)
next week is 2-day for me, Wed and Thur, then i'm at a convention F-U or M.
course i don't have friday off, i have to take it as a vacation day
didn't want to interrupt what seemed like a useful conversation -- besides, I had dishes to do, lol!
i'm still here, messing around on facebook
why, hurshy? What's your job?
just a job with not a lot of holidays, lol
our company only observes 8 days off in the year.
8? wow, cheap. Most around here get at least 11.
Yikes! But you get a 2-week or more holiday?
one place i worked only recognized 5 days off and that was just for the office, the store was open every day of the year.
5 holidays i mean
i get two weeks worth of vacation days, yes.
or should I say vacation?
I understand Europeans get MUCH more time off
and will get more when i am in the job a while - 3 weeks after 2 or 3 years, 4 weeks after 5 years, so that will be good if i stay in this job.
a have an odd schedule. Monday-Sunday week. In long week i do not work on Wed & Thur, short week i do work on Wed & Thur.
dc, your circadian rhythms must be really screwed up
an understatement if ever, jilli :)
our business is sort of funny because we work a lot with europe and new zealand, but we also have to do things with america, so, like, when europe is all on holiday and we haven't much to do it gets really dull but we don't close bc of the things with america. and when we take an american holiday like thanksgiving, the europeans don't get it.
what a wonderful world....lol
i've found Canadians often do not understand that we usually have 2days for Thanksgiving here.
no offense, intended, jilli
well, canadian thanksgiving doesn't happen on a thursday, right?
firewrods
very true, hursh
yay harpjane!
fireworks
yay harp!!
that's the thing that's annoying is coming back in for that one day, when you could travel if you had it off
we understand very well that Thanksgiving in the US is a much more important holiday than the Canadian variety and even more of a family gathering that Christmas -- but as for two days??? Well, is IS on a Thursday so Friday off makes an extra-long weekend, quite understandable!
not all north of the border ar so understanding. :)
or like this year christmas falls on a tuesday, but we don't get the monday off, have to use a vaca day for that too. whereas if it were on a monday, it wouldn't matter. i wish people would just do what makes sense. like how episcopalians don't sing if there aren't very many people and they aren't good singers. whereas baptists will just go on singing no matter how bad it sounds, ugh.
Pity
technically the friday after thanksgiving is not a holiday, banks and government offices are open
YAY harp!!! (Didn't mean to ignore your grand achievement!)
thanks jill
funnily enough, one of our 8 holidays is boxing day, bc the bosses are brits, lol. and i'm like, the day after christmas, who cares? but christmas eve - well that's almost more special than christmas to me!
I've heard some pretty terrible singing in small Anglican (Episcopalian) churches!
hmm, i guess i've just run into good luck with my episcopalian experiences then
Yes, hursh, Xmas Eve is special. Boxing Day here has degenerated into enormous sales. And btw, the X in Xmas stands for the cross.
i had a job, run by an Aussie, we got dec 23-26 inclusive every year, the US holidays, Australia Day, and the day after Thanksgiving.
Yay for the Aussies, dc!!!
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Hello, all!
indeed jilli! that co also paid 100% of our health insurance, as they felt the co should care for us, as the gov't would not.
hello, nonnie!
how can I play this game when I have chronic recurring lethologica
hi nonnie!
if i were running a company, i would want to give people extra things like that, because i think, if your employees feel like they are treated about the same as the workforce in general, they might or might not stay, but if they feel like they are treated better in every respect, of course they will want to stay.
More Aussie cheers, dc! (Proud that my grandparents were Aussies)
great word joso! i wish i could remember it. :-)
*googling lethologica*
check out my new icon!
thought it suted the game
<flipping through my dictionary>
and check out the blog it came from, the guy is awesome.
it's perfect joso!
indeed so, hurshy
Lethologica is a psychological disorder that inhibits an individual's ability to articulate his or her thoughts by temporarily forgetting key words, ...
the dictionary.com def was better, it just says inability to remember words or something like that
so would malapropisms be a form of lethologica?
cool icon jilli, i should get one of those
sheesh! It wasn't even in Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary
The one I quoted is from Wikipedia
i was explaining "wikiality" to my parents this evening - and "truthiness"
I certainly suffer from it more and more all the time
that momment, in the middle of a sentence, when you know there is a word for what comes next, and you know you know the word, but its just not there.
bang on, joso
and you're only 50!
hursh, you must be watching Steven Colbert...
probably it doesn't happen more than it used to, you just notice it more as you age because you think it WILL happen more as you age. but i THINK that studies have shown that aside from alzheimers, people's memories and stuff don't actually get worse with age.
i have watched colbert, not a lot lately cause of going to bed. but i WAS there for the episode with the elephant wikipedia thing and went on wiki and watched the whole thing unfold, it was hysterical
maybe our memories get too cluttered up and we have to rummage more to find the words?
the other one I get is when I try to say a wor, and 1/2 way through I realize that, though familiar with the word because I have read it a hundred times, I have never, ever spoken it before, and it's goung to come out wrong. I wondeif there is a word for that.
mispronunciation
lol
yes, I used to say "revelant"
joso, that was how my dyslexia was diagnosed
i just say it how i think it should sound and then find out i'm wrong...
mispronunciation fits, but is too broad hurshy
cool dc
i thought "av-on-LEE" was "uh-VON-lee-uh" (avonlea)
and "panolpy"
and i thought penelope was "pen-a-lope"
i thought the word was 'candlebra' until someone corrected my when i used it out loud, for example.
i know what you mean joso, it happens to people that read a lot
How about Hermione? That must have boggled many a Potter fan
Ann Arundel is said as 'an u-RUN-dul' here], but in England it's 'an AIR-un-dale'.
i think that's why she had viktor krum mispronounce it in book 4
it's because english is such a strange language...japanese don't have that problem because there is only one way to pronounce a japanese word.
omnipotent gave me problems
oREGano here, oreGAHno in the UK, etc etc
i guess 64 words
and then to confuse things more, you go to a dictionary and it has more than one way to pronounce the word!
yea, you've pronounced it correctly in your head when reading, but your toung has never practiced it. Kind of like watching skiing and then trying skiing
148
531 words
227
238
750
204
or maybe 646
in the twenties, my parents told me, skiing was pronounced shee-ing
134
that's accurate in Norse, i think, jilli.
they used to call skis "skinny showshoes"
my boss and i debated over "ca-RIB-ean" vs "caribBEan" (i use the first) i told him that both were acceptable and showed him OED evidence to prove it, and he emailed it back to me with the word "correct" inserted before "British pronunciation"
joso, wash your keyboard with soap, what a terrible prediction. hello all
good evening, all
