I am ignorant about other PA programs. I just happened to love my school and it is local. I saw no reason to look further (no practical reason, since I wouldn't be moving).
Oh, naw. He's a governmental aide, too. I forget to whom. But I never graduated college.

I also know it rates really highly as a liberal arts college
you don't just get a grade (you don't get a grade) you have to self evaluate, evaluate your professors, and have them evaluate you, in each class, and have a meeting with each one to candidly discuss it. It is a lot of work.

if I get my master's in two, I will be at Evergreen for 4 years total, but not as a regular student, ever. Tacoma only has like 200 students and is completely different than Olympia. Then grad school is different too. I have had very few young 20 somethings in any of my classes.
Interesting, I've been thinking about the MPA program at UVic in Victoria, not sure how Canadian programs compare to the US

I am kind of floored and scared to death by the amount of knowlege and experience in my program by the fellow students, at first I was so intimidated. I mean, they were already directors of their departments, and I have only been a worker bee, mostly in manual labor (as a gardener). But, there is a place for everyone, because public service, in my opinion, demands a multitude of life experiences that should be brought to the table. I am interested in the workers, because I have always been one.

At first i missed the theatre part
i grew up with a week of 24/7 baking leading up to xmas eve, wrapping up at 1500 on the 24th.
we turned out 200 dozen of various cookies, 40 dozen of assorted pastries, plus fudge and chocolate-covered peanut butter balls.
That sounds like it'd be kinda nice... We traveled too much for that, I think.
Ok. Now that sounds Way better than nice. That sounds heavenly...
one type of cookie keeps into Summer. :)
and they re-bake well if they need freshening.
My mom is a terrible cook, tho. I'd be kinda afraid of what might turn up if she tried that many varieties...

My grandma made a german cookie that had to sit for 3 months before xmas, so you wouldnt break your teeth, tho.

rum balls are a favourite of mine. Met them for the 1st time when i was 7, have loved them since.
I found out about the teeth thing when I found like 6 Huge jars down in her basement and thought she might not miss one or 6. Tough lesson.

there's a bakery on 8th ave at W 56th in NYC that does ones w/candied fruit in them. i don't care for theirs so much. i hate candied fruit.

my paternal grandfather died on December 22, 1983, and his funeral was the following day.
Funerals at xmas are about as cool as rum balls with candied fruit. And those aren't very cool at all.
Have you thought that maybe the Grandparents are watching you transit into your new house and are glad you have finally found somewhere new and safe and some where to restart old traditions. I feel that they are watching over you. Please try not to be sad. I think some of the emotions I'm feeling are because we decided not to decorate this year...so it feels like something is missing. what with moving, unpacking, my husband's school/finals decorating was a bit much.

angel, my maternal grandma died 3 weeks after i was married ( the first time ). years later i had my first baby, he was crying so much, especially at night. i was really low and depressed. one night my grandma came to me, and said, get on with rosemary, you're the only one that little baby wants . from that night on, i never looked back, and i will always remember how nana came back and encouraged me.
by the way, i was wide awake at the time, lying there, listening to my baby crying

Yes, I think so, lynxxx. Sint Nicholas was a patron of children. We celebrate a night of gifts and innocent fun (with tease presents and rhymes) on the evening before his birthday.
Xmas is originally not with gifts here, though the influence of the US and the commerce try to make it so. We celebrate Xmas with family things (and close friends), it is a more solemn celebration, focused on the inner Light and the birth of Christ for those who believe in that.

it is for me, anyway, lynxxx. Though I am religious in my own, weird way, I don't feel 'merry' this time of year. Exuberant festivities don't appeal to me. But I like to focus on Midwinter, on the light that starts winning from the dark again, from the process of everything turning into itself, drawing back power and life into the deepest core, and then the reversal of it. So that in our core the Light is born again and can start preparing for the outer birth as well.

I once went to a tennis camp in Killington and we played indoors in Rutland, if I recall, on a rainy day. I would move to VT if my family were not here.

I had the most wonderful surprise today. My son sent me some tea from Pete's with a little "tea for one" pot. I think it had been at the unused front door for a while but the view from the street was blocked by the piles of snow. Sun. we had high temps and a rainstorm and a lot of the snow was washed away. In my walk with the Bichon this AM I spotted it. Now that's sort of a miracle

So funny seeing you two talking like that. Once, my house was so tidy and correct... then came various disasters and I gave up on all but the neccesities re cleaning, tidying, even though it mixed my mind up even more. However, I got my groove back about 3 weeks ago, after a set back from people using my sitting room as a warehouse, and began to tidy and clean... I've nearly driven everyone in the family to distraction. They dare not leave anything out of place (the place I think it should be in) for more than 5 minutes. As for food, well, you might spot a cobweb or two still (high up, 'cos I'm only a short person) in my house, but you'll not go short of food. LOL

I visited her yesterday. She looks like a cancer pt--weak, skinny extremities but pudgy cheeks from steroid treatment, thinning hair, and very tired. The family exchanged gifts in the family lounge area of the rehab unit. It was emotionally very tough and her husband had to leave the room a few times.
