I've been enjoying reading Tim Blair and Andrew Bolt recently...
g'nght samantha
bye sam
Aussie columnists, for those unfamiliar
NIghtr some
ty hug
Pleasant dreams, SamanthaJoy, see you later...
it won't take henge
I don't know why not; henge and henges are both good words
ANdrew bolt is a complete tosser. He writes for the Herald sun and hes an over opinionated Arse. But if you enjoy it so be it
cause enable is like that.
enable is an ignoramus
well said, jilli.
there is only one word that has the first 3 of that H
well, opEd writer do tend to be opinionated, lady
cute icon, ankh!
ge 6
Opionated is ok its the over opinanted that bugs me
i don't read newspapers, i find listening to the news quite enough
But he has a place in my heart because he linked to my review of the movie 300...
got it dee, ty!
er 7 x 2
oh???
i like my newspaper. been a part of my life since i was 5.
Doug you gots me a link
I read online newspapers

that ge word is driving me nuts lol
oh dee, I have such trouble seeing E words and you come up with biggies!
i do that some too, lady, mostly ones in Europe, India, and Aus, cause it's nice to get a non-US news source.
ok im down to not seeing two tiles and no icons and slow as buggery lol
ok im down to not seeing two tiles and no icons and slow as buggery lol gotta be a net problem here i think
Thanks for the icon compliment, Jilli!
did you delete cookies and files in your browser, kiwi?
ra 6
I get the newspaper for the funnies and puzzles and columns and letters to the editor and such
GROOVY if you can see this shut off the pc and reboot
what's a "tosser" ?
actually jili hug started the e words lol
I believe she means someone to be tossed in the rubbish bin, yes?
Ank um wanker
a dill , idiot, twit some words for a tosser
well, whoever. I still can't see them *sulk*
Oh, okay, Infernal, I know what one of those is. :)
sa6
... and we're all just getting fat like mama cass...
Good good just trying to be polite
Um, may I ask, uh, is it a reference to tossing off? Which we don't say in the US? So I may have the phrase wrong...
speak for yourself dc, lol
ok rebooted - cleared the cache everything lol so ohere goes nothing
tried logging out of Babble and back in?
no its used as a noun to describe a twit
YEs ANk it is being a right tosser, toss pot, toss is pretty much the same thing as calling someone a wanker
or what herin said
meaning that they are, um, over-involved in self-stimulation?
Hawaiian goose alert
no, ankh
not usually
se 6
se 6 x 2
I thought a tosspot was a drunk
i just found that myself, jilli :)
no we also use wanker[ pardon] to describe an idiot
no meaning that the person isn't quite a complet richard head but is really annoying
Yes Jill it is sorry
Thanks, Seain... I thought a wanker = tosser = masturbator? but no?
no
we don't speak the queens english here, lol we have a language of our own
na6 and lo6
wanker yes, tosser, no.
:: making mental notes ::
ANdree I have english parents i speak good Queens English. I say castle instead of Kasle
herin, do they call you a pommy?
the T is pronounced? Never in US dialects that i've encountered, unless making a point when teaching spelling.
i spoke the queens english till i came to Aus at age 9, then i practised very hard to sound like everyone else
:: agrees with Seain, no T in US casssssles ::
It's my understanding that speaking the Queen's English is Australia is a good way to get people to look at you funny...
it was my way of fitting in at school
makes sense, andree.
114 and I'm stuck... grr.
andree, that's what happened to me when I hit the USA, then had to modify in Canada. I think I can be described as Mid-Atlantic
i have a friend who came to US from Belarus at age 12. She still has accent, because she realised she could learn to say it right, or learn to speak, and she chose the latter.
hi all
probably, jilli, it's likely the most neutral accent at this point in NA.

indeed just, now if only we didn't have to change back :/
ok doug ...waiting with bated breath.....th.th.th..
did anyone find the last 8?
not I dee
plural of the re 6?
well dc...at least dst is now way longer than est!
i've not, dee
I just clued it in a roundabout way, dc...
no dee
true, just, which makes the time changes even sillier than before
douglas speaks in tongues..
what?
well nothin we can do about it dc except take what we get
indeed so, just.
er, clued what, douglas? I'm confused, not that that in itself is unusual.
how's everybody?
good clue douglas
lol dc I hear ya!
to go back on a deal and the plural
hi, jes. i'm okay. U?
Hi, Jes. Did Lickety say when we might look for clues? He won't be back for hours, right?
thx dartie!
If I were to solemnly vow not to tell you what the re7 was, and then changed my mind, you might say that Douglas re7 on his solemn vow...get it?
restless, and still awake, dc... so i figured i'd come bury my brain in random words :)
correct, ankh.
i still don't get it *pouts*
sorry, ankhorite, i don't know--i just got here
hi jess
random and obscure
but douglas, reneged is not in this puzzle :P
--or vice-versa, Douglas--often used in card games, right? Hi, all.
i had to google, never seen that spelling before for that word.
it has an extra letter.
Indeed yes, miranda...
oops methinks someones got to hit the PB
i thought that was what you were getting at, but.... anyway have it now. ty
got it now
...to the sin bin with jes...
dart did you watch the games tonight?
that is how we spell it down under
ie hockey?
no...which ones?
i learned it w/out the vowel.
for sevens I have: ca, er x 2; ge; re; sc x 2 any others?
They had high school hockey on TV in Minnesota...
me? hmm. better go find the word i used :)
and you probably spell colour without the u dc
errr was talking about the NHL doug....
That's what I have Dee
lol...im in minn didnt see those either
and color is so not a word
guess i'm clueless, douglas. i don't see the word i used...
personally, i'm random about the u in words like that, andree.
re6, with the d on the end, jes...
there's a so 6/7
re6 i knew only as re5 before tonight.
ty sweet
but it's not in this puzzle
saw about 10 mins of the ottawa phoenix game...which one just1?
or so it says when i try to enter it
How come this puzzle doesn't recognise 'henge' - the common name for an ancient stine structure (as in Stonehenge) - or, for that matter Pelaton - the main pack in a bicycle race (not allowable in the puzzle the day before yeaterday). This dictionary needs an urgent upgrade!
did mes canadiens win tonight darty?
Rabba, we already grumped about that... the official dictionary just doesn't have henge.
it is funny how we have different spelling for the same word, my kids did much of their high school at american schools in asia , i was nearly driven insane with how they were taught to spell
because enable, the dictionary, as jilli put it earlier, is an ignoramus, rabbsar. hello.
hmm. well it worked the 4th time. guess it is the penalty for me. sorry.
mont 5 --- la 2
-er and -or instead of -re and -our bother you that much andree?
it's peloton
well us civilized folk here in the great white north (errr Canada, and I mean great and white) use the u as in neighbour, colour, etc etc
yeahhh thx dart
rabbasar--it also doesn't recognize cria (baby llama) or degu (gerbil-like rodent). it is frustratin
i googled it the other day parisla and its pelaton
not really but it was pretty silly when the kids got marked wrong for what is actually correct spelling
how petty of the instructors, IMHO.
Hi, Ursh, didn't see you before. :)
u talkin' bout the u Andree?
hey ank
it's so funny that I can't see the words minus the U....
gaol/jail kerb/curb i can see, but most like -ise vs -ize are just cosmetic.
it's a french word, so I should know ;-). Wiki says The peloton (from French, literally meaning ball and related to the English word platoon)
i need 4 more words to take a break with 100 left and cant find any more grrr
yeah and the ize vs ise too....never even knes ise was okay
yes just u caused alot of problems, i ended up sending the 2 younger kids to the british school
pelota - a ball for a game in Spanish
and knew* too
chech, cheque
ok sorry but i was irritated and googled pelaton and cycle description came up
ra6x2
sorry check
must be different then quebecois french cause I don't know that word
makes sense, andree. I wonder what the British School of Washington does by way of spelling.

i know, just, i learned it on the streets of Montreal and Brossard, while visiting family. I learned that the languages of the Americas in many ways resemble each other more than they do their European counterparts.

oh, a jo, rather. ty

I understand (re colour/color etc) that the "our" ending derives from the French, and that Noah Webster decided to purify and go back to the Latin source, hence the "or" ending
oops found it is 4/4
lol well they like to say what they mean in as few words as possilbe so if the English word is shorter they'll use it
ty hug

night jilli
Dart so you were a big player there?
i dont know about big....you could mouse it or type the words....i mouse...the highest mouser ranking i saw was about 3000 (top rank is 4000)....i was around 2550....the top typers were at 4000 and could have been higher if the rankings would allow it
wow It sounds like it was a shame that it folded
maniac mitch was ranked higher than i was....bananafour and ossie were just behind me...cant remember what volleymomdee and just1 were
oh well least you found us
it was a lot of fun...you could chat personally to someone also...or to everybody.....games lasted 2 minutes with about a one minute break in between....you could play for 20 mins....or 6 hours if you wanted lol
nice
this is fun...you learn new words..the other game you used the ones you knew the best cause you only had 2 min....i like the group here......kinda miss the fast pace of the other game tho
rent repo
Dart i use Scramble at Facebook. It works well if you can team it up with someone at the same time
ooops sorry
ok, I'm off -- lore, thanks, but I was looking for a word from the S in the middle of the three Ses, not the S in the middle column -- but thanks for the word anyway.
They aren't words

I hope you better
Sprite so sorry you have a spill may you be well before you know it sending healing energies with lots of love to our Princess
in that case, just suffer him a little longer... it is almost goodbye and good riddance to him
yep herin add a couple make it nice and crunchy and you know the other additive dont you chilli or tabsco heheheh!!!
aw lore, thanks :) That will help too. This just takes patience, lots of it... not my biggest talent, but ok ;)
he likes chili
don't bother, it will only cost you lots of energy. Just ignore the rudeness for the last few weeks.
WOW Lore you need to check out So you think you can dance tonight. Rhys and Gemma is up first and they rock.
Sprite i agree Its hot so i wont build a bridge and get over it ill swim its nice and cool

I need a holiday from learning, lore. I really really do.
if I were a scotsman and I found myself a new girl, I would rela4, right?
bye lore

hello MVA
*mumbles irritated at enable* It never learns, does it, MVA ;)
hi lynxxx, how is stewart?
good thanks MVA. such slugs, we were out all day yesterday and he didn't have a chance to sleep..didn't get up til almost midday - I had a sleepin!
sounds good, lynxxx :)
did the US enter summer time this weekend? Or am I mistaken?
he's a lucky dog lynxxx! going now, bbl, happy babbling
bye MVA
bye MVA, have a great day
Must have Sprite - the clock on Babble is an hour different
that was what I was thinking, but I am easily confused with time differences. We won't hit DLT until 30 March.
which is extremely late... happens about only 8 times in 500 years that DST starts after easter.
and we are early April - very late too
indeed so, lynxxx! Well, at least we will be more or less staying the same. I will have to make note of the US... and them having different time zones within the boundaries doesn't make it any easier, lol.
broke 100, went to list, first word I see is ac4.5 ! oh well, at least I am consistent as I never see it
lol lynxxx, we all have words like that. One of mine is asea. Never spot it, and it is really not such a tough one.
indian butter alert... cowboy throw-rope alert ;)
the lariat was my 153rd word
thought you would have them already... but who knows, someone might benefit ;)
the more people playing the less chat it seems
Hello. Thanks for those tips, sprite! I'm Babbling while my cat snores his head off a few feet away. He snores louder than my partner!
lol hydra! Hi and yvw :)
Hi lynxxx. Didn't mean to sound as if I was leaving you out.
Hi Hydra. Bet he's easier to stop though
yeah, sometimes that seems true, lynxxx. But there are so many times more lurkers than chatters in this game.
I'm guilty of lurking when I'm busy and have only ten mins to spare.
ah... the nose-in-the-air arrogant word I recently confused with high-up, is now in the grid :)
nobody can be guilty of lurking. It is a right we have :)
I have to start work in a minute, really, even on Sunday, as I have to produce three chapters of a novel by Monday. I only started on Friday! I've done nearly 9000 words since then. It'#s a hard life!
eeeeks hydra... what did you do with it? Write it, translate it, correct it?
Rolin - dont be such a smart al** (let's see if I can flush her out)
Write it. From scratch. I don't know if the publisher will want to buy it, it's all on spec. But a literary agent is meeting the publisher tomorrow and will take it with him if he thinks it's any good.
lol lynxxx!
HI
wow hydra. Go for it and I will keep my fingers crossed.
wb lady
wow Hydra
Thank youI am really exhausted.
Hi infernal!
I bet! But it sounds like a chance you cannot pass up on. It might be worth a little overtime.
I see a Robbie Williams song in the grid today
my re4 name is in the grid today :) But not valid, alas.
You're right, sprite. It was a real challenge. I'm not even sure how the story will end but have to figure it out and write a synopsis. I'll let you all know how it goes.
please do, hydra! I am excited for you, I really am, lol. You will work it out in time and make it great, I just know it.
What are you writing about hydra?
You're making me blush, sprite. It's a Joanne Trollope type of romance set in a country village, with a twist, because the woman who's just moved there has a secret... I shall say no more!
wanna read it already. If it gets published, please let me know how to obtain it, hydra!
Raises eyebrows now im curious. GO FOR it Hydra
I promise I will!
morning babble!!
hello Pink
hi pink *hug* :) How are you today?
The same agent turned down my last book,. though. He said I could do better :( Morning, ((((((pink))))))
HI Pink
well, tell the agent kindly he was right, and you proved him right this time. :)
Will do!
good Morning Lynxxx, Sprite, Hydra and Herin **hugs to all** i am ok this morning, i've just forced myself out of a nice warm and cosy bed!
aw, pink... but you moved right into the warm and cosy atmosphere of the babble chat. You'll be fi4 ;)
Well, better go. I have to get my heroine up on a horse playing Lady Godiva in the village fete!
wtg hydra! Have fun writing... people will feel the fun when they read it.
have fun Hydra
Pink thanks for joining us
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! *poof*
ohhh hydra i'll work on my timing next time around lol take care and i'll see you soon!
if I enter fossile one more time, could someone please kick me hard?
lol sprite
oh... and I go to the sinbin for posting a word so close to a whole series I just found... after posting it. :(
no sprite ill hug u
aw lady, that is so sweet!
Sprite, we're frantically looking for your series.....
hi Marmar! Am working on the translation... Atalante has been extremely busy for the last months, so she hasn't had a chance to look at it yet. But we will get there, I promise. *hug* and hi :)
Is Ata editing?
yes, isn't it wonderful? I don't trust my english enough, and she is so good at it. Very critical. I am in great hands :D
Wow, a real Babble Production! Hi by the way...we just got here.
hi
Opps
you and your smart son? Welcome to both of you!
Yes, thanks! We just got back from Mass and found out our beloved Father got promoted to Monsignor! Happy Day!
aw, that is good news. Congrats :D
http://tinyurl.com/3dmy4c SPrite this is for you
Marmar what does that mean?
awwwwwwww lady! Soooo sweet. Thanks :D
If you get a chance watch Jekyll its very good
Hi Lady, our Priest goes a rung up on the Church ladder. Monsignor, I believe, is the step before Bishop, then Cardinal and finally Pope. He is a wonderful leader, speaker, shepherd if you will! And his family name is Heil which means "healing" in English. So appropriate as he helps so many people.
wow. Um is that part of the Catholic church? Im a little sketchy with things this eve
Oh, yes, I should have said that at the beginning.
i have to go folks i'll be back later on, have fun!
Good morning everyone.
Bye Pink
Cool that is great. Blessing be to him and his
Later Pink
Many thanks Lady.
I have my own religion but i like to learn
bye Pink. hello Marmar
Hi Lynxxx!
bye pink!
hi Frances!
Hello sprite. I see you're in the grid today.
I am :) Not valid though.
It is if you stick an R in it........but I'm not saying that word refers to you LOL
Hi Frances
But we still loves you
lolol.... ok... should I read between the lines there? ;)
Hi Lynxx. SOrry im right into Jekyll
hi sprite, how good are you in babble?
this ? is from Marcus Sprity
Sprite is good in or out of babble.
hehehe... struggling al5 every day, but always having fun, Marcus!
I think we have a lifelong Babble fan here in our house. Marcus takes it very seriously while having fun and he's learning SO much!
How old is he Marmar?
I am really impressed by you, Marcus! You find so many words :)
Marmar thats great
Oh im drinking Elderberry FLower cordial this hot eve
Frances, he turned 6 last September. Starts school this fall though.
sounds tasty, lady
Marmar my five year old granddaughter loves playing babble. It is a wonderful way to teach spelling.
Fantastic Frances. What an advantage these kids are going to have!
the biggies are not coming easily to me today. Finally found my first 8!
blar
hi all how is the grid today
ah, and there is the 2nd 8. At least that is a normal word.
He Ema
hi Ema, it is fun, but has quite a lot of babblets in it.
That's a matter of opinion! We came to a screeching halt after 28....brains are not in gear yet!
in ge4, you mean ;)
oooohhhh, I know, I know...I'm going....
come over, I was already there, lol. Cookie time!
see what I mean, we had not even found that yet...
I have 103
have 11 left, checking for forgotten plurals and singulars and such now.
er7.36 soon (not often used in speech although been in grid before)
thanks lynxxx, that makes 10 :)
you ARE amazing Sprite
only practised and stubborn, lol
cookies
yes please, lady, I haven't had breakfast yet :)
you must have an excellent memory though Sprite, I certainly can't recall the words without much repitition
yup, an iron cauldron, that brain of mine. Once in, never out. Usually that is terrible, but for babble it rocks. And I do have an eye for patterns. That helps too.
you mentioned cookies
ah, lynxxx, your ac4 word... I just found the n- words that are related, lol... now only 3 more to go.
of course - TY!
I did, lady. We have lovely cookies in the sin bin. Wanna come over and get your share? (I still need 3 words...)
mmm cookies
Sprite goo
i'm back
(that was a covert hint to lady to post one of them in the chat... as entry fee for the sin bin )
wb ardilla! How was jeopardy, or wasn't it that today?
um narf
lol lady *hug* You always manage to make me smile.
do you have fo6.27 Sprite? the first of 3 fo6
Hi Ardilla
I do, lynxxx... do you need a clue or was yours one for me?
no, i paused to do housework and eat
oh boy
phantom fossil
you are so much smarter than me, ardilla. I only put a wash in the machine.
no, I have it Sprite, it was unusual - well for me anyway
didn't want to do it...but i have to get ready for mon...work at 0600...yuck
for me too. Found it by playing around with that pattern. I am missing 1 S and 2x L, one 6 and 2x 5.
eeks, that is quite early, ardilla!@
yeah...not looking forward to this week...or surgery
I bet. We will be thinking of you, ardilla, and send you lots and lots of support.
dang i just found the S that Jill was looking for earlier
thank you very much!
Lickety not back yet?
Sprite - there are 3 lo6.24
S-s done. Isn't lickety bringing mrP back to the hospital after her visit home?
Yes. OH thats right sorry
Hey look at that SHINEY
ok, I have those. So then it cannot be lo, but has to be li, la or le. Thanks.
not li - there is only one
henge is a word ... *stamps foot petulantly*
stone henge. Of course it is a word. *stamps along with Ema*
I tried that one too Ema
le5.14 (no singular of this)
10 la 10 le 1 li
yay, thanks lynxxx, found them. L + form of to be, double the vowel. And plural. Fireworks :D
Congrats Sprite !!

You can say hi before you go, sprite!
And hello everyone else,too!

HI jandy
How you doing, lovey? And your husband?
I'm on the home stretch thanks Sprite. PS my friend asked if you got your car going OK - what was the problem
Hi Jandy
Hello Jandy
Hi lady, how's things with you?
Hi lynxxx, hi Frances!
yah, 123 left
good
you?
Go ardilla, way behind you!
Good too thanks lady!
they did, lynxxx. The accu was dead, they said. I was very sceptical at first, but since the new accu it has been starting perfectly all the time.
help with either er7 pls?
lol - whatever the accu is - !!?? thats great
That would be the battery to us!
husband was doing better on the new meds, then got a new attack the day before yesterday. He now has to take another med as well, and that helps. He is without pain today, for the first time this year.
ohhhhhh am so sorry. Yes, the battery. Stupid me.
Working on the grid with the clog wog again.. he needs to join up himself!
er7.28 when the wind or waves wear away land - but change the o in that word to another vowel
that is better
hi there, clog wog, lol. Goedenavond, en veel plezier!
Oh sprite, that is fantastic news. Long may it last!
Thts good Sprite, at least not going thru prolonged pain
yes, I am holding my breath, but it seems to really go well this time.
Dank je wel! En jij ook!
thanks lynxxx
er7.36 means soon. sort of compound and sounds archaic
Well, figuring out what was going on muust have made an enormous difference, so I hope it stays this way for him, sprite!
so do I, Jandy! He is not as used to pain as I am and it took out so much of him. He still goes to bed extremely early, often with the kids. And even though he does not understand why, I do, LOL.
does anyone want a list of the 7s, with second letter and points?
True enough, sprite. Pain is very tiring. As you know!
Please
Thanks lynxxx, great clues
yes, cuz i'm missing 3 pls
Lickety is up Sprite
took me 10 years to figure that out myself, lol, Jandy. I am not very smart that way either.
Funnily enough, I think I'm quite perceptive about how people are doing. Except for me!!
I think a lot of us are like that... especially mothers...
ca7/32, er7/28, er7/36, fi7/40 ge7/36, re7/36, sc7/32, sc7/32, so7/32
RhNKA
ha ha opps Thanks Sprite
sprite, popping out of lurkdom to say thanks for the mega clues. going for food now. Happy Babbling everyone
ah, ok lynxxx, that is great. My toughest 7 was the sc32. Thing on the skin of a snake + first vowel of the hawaiian goose I think I forgot that one on the babblets list, btw.
hi and bye, Chrissie! :)
first vowel? I am really stupid this morning. First syllable, I mean.
Now, sprite. Enough of the stupid talk! Here you are chatting away in a language which is not your first. I admire anyone who can do that!
oh, and occasion is a phantom, in case you wondered. As is fo**ile.
thanks Sprite
Sprite, don't say things like that about yourself please. You're a jewel.
I think California is a phantom in this one...
well, chatting away is one thing, getting words totally mixed up is another. So ok, maybe not stupid, but definitely confusing, lol. The snake skin thing + first SYLLABLE of the hawaiian goose, it should read.
Sprite no your not
phantom: nanocephalous
isn't California a phantom every day? *dugs for cover*
phantom rascals
Hee hee...yes sprite, I believe it is! But I don't live in LA!
Not a good thing, BR..... and how are you?
peachy keen hubba hubba boola boola
he he sprite
is that the physical cause of narrowmindedness, BabbleRabble?
Oh, that
some people have a mind like a steel trap ... once it closes nothing gets in
Oh, well you are clearly having an excellent day in Morocco. How's the food? Had a tagine yet?
Quickly scans grid to make sure tagine not there... not wanting to be sent You Know Where!
dang it
yeah, guess that is true. Ok, if I can't help any more, I will be off and do some chores. *hugs* to you all, happy babbling and thanks for the wonderful company, help and fun. You guys rock.
cya sprite
Goodbye sprite! Be as nice to yourself today as you are to us, please!
Hugs gprite
I am contemplating petitioning the dress industry to make patriotic changes to prevent political lying
The dress industry, BR?
read my profile
Babble i agree.
clue for the so7 pls?
I am a FAT size 16 to 18 and i should be a 12 to 14 to be healthy. Its totally b.s
Well, intellectually I agree, but it depresses the life out of me given that I wear several sizes bigger than a few years ago. So the news is even worse than I thought! thanks BR....
Judging by how one is treated in the stores you should be a 10 -12. mmm b.s
so7 one who so6/21
Jandy and babble the male and female species need to stand up and say ' i like my body im not a size im a person.
Interesting experience with new govt here, BR. they are being pretty up front with the population about how things really are. Somewhat novel approach.
i don't have the so6.21 either ;(
so6 comfort
my take is a politician will jump at any excuse for laxity in personal accountability and integrity
SO plus thing used to tie your shoes
that and fat people pay more for clothes should skinny people pay less?
tyvm
yw :-)
Thanks une and lady
I have been writing scathing letters to politicians I view as prostrate invertebrates
Most, I think, Br
yw :-)
Well, BR, if you are the latter you must be the former. What are you writing about specifically?
good call there babble
right now the source of my bile is domestic spying
well, and there's Shrub vetoing the ban on waterboarding
WHat?
vetoing ban on waterboarding?
uh
clue for as6 pls?
The what, Une?
yep
there's plenty of that to complain about, BR...
sorry full story please?
form of torture
you know, if they called it DROWNING it wouldn't sound so much like a beach sport
as 6 -- add dirt
sorry i don't understand what you mean Une?
tx BR
sorry i don't understand what you mean Une?
Very true, une. It's an awful, awful thing.
Im am trys stupid
waterboarding is an "acceptable" form of "persuasion" used on political prisoners
thanks BR
Ok so the states is allowing crimes against the person. mmm I wonder if Bush also thinks that Hitler wasn't a bad man but totally misunderstood. HEAD DESK FECK TARD
Shrub = any means to an end
and he believes that results in reliable information . . .
But if i poke you alot with a cattle prod arent you going to tell me what i want to hear to make me stop?
water boarding was used in the spanish inquisition
precisely
Can the world charge bush with crimes against the people?
um human rights dohicky
good luck
waterboarding was used by the US in the Phillipines during the spanish american war
at least hes going this year
wondering if it's possible to ever repair all the damage he's done . . .
I think it is, Une. Time heals a lot of things...
i salute your optimism
seriously
I have been very sincere in telling congress they are spineless twits incapable of managing a pile of rocks
I was against him the moment he vetoed funding to third world countries for birth control
Well, if you look at countries like Germany and Japan, they have rebuilt from the ground up successfully...
yep, one of his many brilliant moves, herin
Yep. I even think i was so disgusted about that i wrote to the Washington post
but you know, jandy, there are folks who will never trust Germany ever again
That's true, and there are Australians in particular who hold a grudge against the Japanese. But it is still a generational issue, and more time yet will pass and people will forget that bias.
DOn't get me wrong its just one person not the people
My word, waxing philosophical tonight, aren't we!!
true--my mom's generation . . .
Sleep deprived here
just the people who voted for him :)
liss
oops, sorry
My b.f better be home before i go to bed or he gets half and inch to sleep on as it will be me and the kitty on the bed.
HI SUKEE
morning/evening
It wasn't even a word sukee!! Rats...
lol
hi sukee
I'm hoping whoever gets in reverses some of Bush's decisions. It would be a bit hypocrital of McCain (if he is elected) to approve of torture. Well, more than a bit...
McCain from what i heard can it my arse
im back!! *waves*
hey, pink!
I'm hoping it will be anyone from the other party
hi pink
Hiya pink!
how's everyone today?
HI pink and angel
Hi Angel, splendid thanks. And you?
hey, angel :-)
Tired, our clocks lost an hour today. And I got up to do laundry and the laundry room is still locked.
as one of the few USers on right now, please everyone, use whatever psychic means you have to make sure we don't have another republican president. Or you guys north of the border may be seeing me soon.
We lost on hour of babble
He eva
Harper is trying to be like Bush though, that's why I want a Democrat in the US
hi herin
Eva come to us
it's a bit far herin...Canada is only a couple of hours away.
I was the same with our elections late last year, guys. But we did get a change of govt after 11 long years. Still, there were lots of people who thought the previous govt did a great job.... depends on your measurement.
Weather's better, though, Eva! LOL!
there are some words in the grid today that fit Bush :)
Sukee Tw plus picnic ant isnt in here
not too many people here now think that Bush is doing a good job, but there is such a desire to be "saved" by some big strong daddy figure who promises to fight the bad guys- who can't be fought that way. Obama, right now for me, is the only one who is representing a return to statesmanship rather than mindless aggressive posturing.
opps
yay, eva!!
My kitty has a bald spot from her colar
that depends Jandy....I'm not big on super heat. However, as get older, the winters are getting more wearing too.
yeah, i like obama
i think hillary is the antichrist in a pantsuit...lol
Don't talk to me about winter...I had to cancel yet another social engagement because of all the snow we got yesterday. I haven't been able to get out practically all winter.
LOl ardilla...LOL
I feel much more despair over my fellow citizens than I do over the specific leaders. They got elected after all.
I'm happy that a lot of the really conservative people say they won't vote of McCain, of course they probably will anyway because George told them to
Well, it's a big country, eva, so you could pick your spot. We have a nice winter here. Just freezing on a cold night then about 16-20 C during the day. And it hardly ever gets to 40 any more!
sukee, it's been a particularly hard one hasn't it? The 4+ feet of snow were dealable with, but when we had that slight thaw about a month again and everything turned to ice I stopped being able to take my walks - even with crampons strapped onto my feet it was just too icy and scary.
clue for the first fo6 pls?
...debates moving to Australia...likes it all except for the bugs :)
We lived in St Louis for a few years and I really never understood till then what an INCONVENIENCE the whole thing was....
Bugs, sukee? What bugs? We have some little spiders....
Oh and the things that kill u
like the deadly snakes?
Shhhhhh...lady
I don't like spiders...
Jandy the Funnel Webs that live in the water and the drop bears
:D
And I bet your spiders are a lot bigger than ours
New Zealand sounds like paradise to me. But I just don't think that I could move so far away from my friendship network. As you get older you realize how incredibly rare it is to find soul mates who weather the test of time. Not something I take lightly.
Sukee not really.
We had one recently that you could actually hear walking on the wall, sukee. But not poisonous.
Even hearing that made me cringe
wow!
I'm with you Eva. I would happily go and live in Thailand for a few years except for that network.
Most of my grandfather's family moved to Australia...I'll have to find out who and where they are :)
The goliath birdeater tarantula of South America is arguably the biggest spider in the world. The venomous night hunter can grow to be one foot (30 centimeters) long and sports one-inch (2.5-centimeter) fangs.
You should do sukee.
We don't ahve dinner plate spiders thanks
Of course, my kitty could take care of those spiders...
Strangely enough, I can pick the great big (non venomous) spiders up on a piece of paper and put them outside. But I don't care for moths... yukk....
Um no
Jandy great place to live for loath of moths
Interesting...conversation went from Bush to insects...
But I did have a big fat redback in the boot of my car last week, with a web going, and that would kill your kitty dead. Fast.
And make an adult pretty sick...
We know that hes a roach right
Ok...enough talk of spiders. It's making my skin crawl :)
Jandy thats what hairspray and bbq lighters are for
True, lady, we get those disgusting, furry, huge bogong moths.... blerk!
clue for 1st fo6 pls?
Apparently they are tasty
Right. The clogwog and I have reached the halfway mark and are now going to play SuperScrabble, hoping against hope to finish this tomorrow.
gross!
Good night everyone, or have a great day, or whatever! Don't dream about insects, of the human or arachnid variety!
NIght Jandy

hello herin *massive hug* hello ardilla how are you?
nighty night Jandy
No ewww.
a little better today
how are you pink?
I have never been able to convince Merp to eat bugs, except for houseflies. He just watches spiders. Spiders, roaches and leeches are really the only animals that give me the creeps. Oh, not big on ants when there are lots of them either. Rodents and snakes are just fine.
*sighs of relief*
I don't like most green veggies what makes you think id eat bugs
i didn't know...so sorry herin!
I have a very close friend in Australia and would love to visit, but just can't bear the idea of the interminable plane journey. Getting on a plane at all is something i avoid whenever possible, I dream of some day having the time and money to go by sea.
im very well indeed ardilla, just enjoying a lazy Sunday!! glad to hear you are feeling better
*blushes*
HUgs Ardilla.

Hello everyone. I have a bit of time to Babble before I go to work.

good morning
I was reading the news radio station web site---we got a total of 20 inches since Fri afternoon!
HI Fran
Lady--the snow is great for downhill and cross-country skiers! I had a wonderful time skiing in the woods yesterday.
Hi Frantique

I live in a rural area and in a wooded development---I love it here--it is my sanctuary from the craziness of life.
Scrabbler i saw the most awesome bunny hutch the other day and i thought of you
she is good cool, we had a little potty accident just now, but she is now watching Lazy Town
Il 2 vowels and not dog but ?at
thanks herin! i's done
What kind of hutch, Lady? My bunnies are "free-range" in their own rooms. They have large cages for food, water and litter boxes, but I never keep them in their cages.
Great for Little Pink--tell her that she is a big girl now wearing big girl underwear!
clue for el5 pls/
What i mean is something that you would do. Have them inside but have them outside for play and air like i would with the kitty.
?
yah for little pink!
The hutch was off the ground on legs and shaped like a gezbo it was very cool for a little rabbit.
she does now scrabbler i got her some knickers, which she calls "knick knicks" and says she is a big girl, then gives the cheesiest grin lol
how is bunny callie today?
e + Tarzans cloth
thanks pink
*goes and removes foot from mouth*
lol herin, whats that about?
Not meaning to imply very cute bunnys going in cages. I liked the cage as an outdoor safe place to run.
Bunny Callie has been hopping all over this AM but is now stretched out on her belly in the dinning room. I can see her from here.
Aww cute

the dictionary used is a little weird at times
the tiles have to touch and can be used only once
if you get stuck, you can ask for a clue
oh we are under a blizzard warning untill 4 oclock today
wow
here, we're watching for yellow dust advisories
Congrove time to stay inside on the pc with a cup of hot chocolate
what is yellow dust advisories?
Yea really
it's a problem over in SE asia
but what is it?
large amounts of yellow dust comes down from the north and blankets everything
I can't open any pages at the moment except this one.
makes it pretty hard to breathe
So its dust like sand?
sorta
but very fine
ok
what causes it ardilla?
Wish i could google it but no luck opening extra pages
not sure what causes it
do you live near mountains
no
apparently, this happens every year
the dust storm comes from the gobi desert in china
Icky Ardilla just Icky
its not fatal is it ardilla?
its probably sand being carried by the wind, when season begins to change
luckily, no; just causes respiratory aliments but it can neutralize acid rain
well got to go gonna fix my mom some breakfast in bed

yes, you could be on it sitting on your loo!!
Monkey, I dont think I recommend that!
it would show how domesticated monkeys can be!!
Does this unequal sided triangle belong to anyone, found it at the bottom of the pool. Has a label on it that says sc7/32 *grin*
LOL cheeky, I could be smashing up my loo, over someone's head!
loved your clue, FM... tyvm, needed that one!

rats are very clean too. I used to keep rats; lovely creatures.
Txs for trying, Mom. Anyone, clue the er7s?? plsss?
Hi Farruska
Savant is a rat, but you know that. Oh, thank you, Ardilla
well, that made my day! Just went out to hang laundry, and a swallow-tail kite flew right over my head!
er7= the act of rubbing out
er7/36 ere + not short
hya back
exactly! any animal can cause disease if not kept right. and hamsters aren't any more disease ridden than any other!
Oh, Ardilla, I thought that should be two words, never saw combo before.
funny how different 'rub out' is in British and American. :)
:: thumps chest proudly at Atalante's defense ::
How lovely Aloy!
er 7/36: three letter wod meaning before + opp. of short

Random Fact No. 2: There are only 12 letters in the Hawaiian alphabet.

Hi Dcseain.

Thanks for the er clues everyone
if I was Vietnam, I'd be more worried about the rats and mice and other things living in the sewers and onboard ships and stuff, not little fluffy pets
:: thanks Inge, Ardilla, for clues :::
It's good Farruska

unfortunately I still have 178 left lol
hello peoples
Oh for heavens sake!! smack me with a mackerel!
f + os4/4 plural then latin plural
LOL, FMitch
fo6 - rhymes with something the Vietnam people will feed to hamsters to snuff 'em out

Danke, Inge!
it was, Dcseain.
i thought that ra word was limited to the Southern dialect, and not valid, so hadn't tried it. Ty, inge.
Michigan lucked out on that snowstorm. They prediceted 10 inches and we got less than an inch
Our friends south of Lexington, in Richmond, had 5 inches
do you want some of our 10 inches, Inge?
our old basement used to flood so much I bought a pair of hip waders
tyvm
6 left
we got only rain from Richmond, VA to Philadelphia or so.
well, Ankh, if it were the other waxwing (Bohemian), it was a bit out of its normal stomping grounds.. they did to stay further north

Then, you must be in class with them. Actually, no, the school wouldn't let you in talking like that
yw flosey
I was monkeying that for such a long time
Hear the mockingbird sing... "memememememe"
A talking principle -- how about that!!!
It's a talented bird--you'd ALMOST think it was really responding to what you said to it
oh! I am getting dragged by a troll! How did I let this happen!
wow, erda, that's impressive!
hi erda
i dunno, wurdy. but we'll give you extra points for defending others instead of yourself
Hi all

morning, erda
im on A honor roll too so shut up
my bairn is younger than you congrove, but she's not allowed to speak to people like that, whatever age, and i would think your mam would be embarrassed if she knew you were

Hi everyone....

I'm glad I never ran into it lill
ok! i was trying to figure out who that was... knew it was someone from here :)
hmm. methinks it be breaky time. i'll be back :)
we've had a few rude trolls over the last couple years - we usually ignore them unless they become too much of nuisance, then report them to DrGod
there were a few from auss who went to a school near herin
aha! now you know :D
later jes
yes lilliann, I remember them, they were reported and dealt with
Flosey....I'm glad to hear there is something we can do about rude people here in babbleland!!! I always enjoy the good company.

fi7 builds on fi5, then plural
only have one fi5, one who fi4/7 is that the right one

if there was a g in the word it would be ornamental work
im sorry for my brothers rude actions my mom grounded him for 3 weeks from the computer and phone .Once again im sorry!!----C Congrove

it takes some practice, crissy. but usually there's someone around to give clues if you get stuck
it doesn't matter whether you're good or not crissy, it's just a bit of fun
just try it for a while crissy, see how many words you can get
plus it's one good way of learning to spell and learn new words
if there was some "T"s i could spell a lot of words
well i was erading what he wrote and what is a bairen watch-a ma-call-it-thing
there are alot of phantoms in this grid crissy and they are what we call words that we think are there but are missing a letter here or there
reading***

well im going over to my friends house bye everyone
bugger all. i do not want to go to work :(
bye crissy
have a good day
later chrissy
Haha, Seain. I hate losing this hour each year. I prefer 25 hr days, or longer.
ciao, congrove and chrissy
you're right scrabs - days should be about 30 hours lo**...
congrove is crissy, dc :)
i prefer this time zone to the supposed standard that we spend slightly less than 1/3 of the year on at this point, scrabbs
clueless me, jes :)
's ok :)
One disadvantage - my family in Hawaii is now six hours behind us. So, phone time that is reasonable for both of us is harder to come by.
il5 clue ?
extend il4 ruru
(Hawaii doesn't observe daylight saving.)
did not know that gwen...
ruru -- oh my sacroil***
always feel bad for those states that straddle observance
thank you

Saskatchewan doesn't either gwen...
nor arizona
straddle observance?
yup, already got that one, ndan :)
And was it parts of Indiana that didn't, until recently? That must have been very strange.
88 left bbs
it's like a jigsaw what parts do & don't
I wish they'd just leave it at standard time
bye peri
used to be most of indiana did not, but for 24 counties. now it does but for i thinkit's 15 counties.
later peri
bye peri :)
I still need 164!
i prefer gmt-4 to the 'standard' gmt-5 where i live.
ciao, peri

Go go Lucien!!
Not telling my count, as I just started! :)
i wish but shovelling beckons... scrabs
Help with as6 please?
Don't worry gwen I've got 184 left :-)

AS + dirt, Scrabbler
Got you beat! 225 left! (oops, I wasn't gonna tell)
thanks montreal :)
hi there dear scarlet !
Lucien!! :-) Good Sunday to you!
Haha, I tried assgel and assgas
LOL, Scrab.
lolol scrabs
I found the true word now, but I am still laughing!
re-lol
My first guess was gas, too, scrabbler!
LoriP would enjoy the RE word, Luc.
Well, A words have been assaulted!
she would, she would...
the chances of me getting half way before the list are slim to non existant today :-)
33 left - time for a break, then shovelling again - BBL - happy babling all - "POOF"
Until later, Lucien! Be careful, please!
I went to the list after just 89 words, Katie.
i will (scarlet) - "ACTUAL POOF"
Oh thanks scrabbler I feel so much better knowing that
I decided to play differently today than usual. I opened the list and am tackling each 2-letter group, starting at the bottom.
i went to list at 114.
This is a real toughie today.
that's what i do once i go to list, gwenski :)
I can only go from the top, if I start at the bottom it throws me off completely :-)
Usually I put in as many words as I can find, but I'm limiting myself to just those in the group I'm currently looking for. (Right now, it's 'sc')
Every darned time I see it, I have to try it, and it NEVER is accepted... the folk from The Time Machine... the eloi
I usually go Z---> A, but so far I did the A's and am working on the C's.
lol scarlet
I am all over the map until the end when I am stumped...
I like to take the bookend approach. It makes me feel like I am making progress.
WHEW! Fireworks
Except, today I've been stumped since the first 91 words...
last word was the last jo4/9
yay flosey
congrats flosey :-)
Yahooo for Flosey!
Well done, flosey! Congratulations!! I LOVE your icon... what a movie!
it was great wasn't it Scarlet, hubby's favourite
Maybe we could do worse than idealize a Coca-Cola bottle...LOL
Yeh 100 words up, going to the list :-)
I'll stay for a while if I can help clue
but first a bite to eat - had juice and coffee, need something solid
At least this time I got the ac measurement of land, I always miss it and feel bad because as a surveyor I should get it every time :-)
I still have 92 to find, flosey, so I wouldn't know where to start for clues!
argh. ok. gotta go to work. back later :)
Katie, I know what you mean... I always miss the teenage pimple invasion/.
Bye, Jess!
Later, jes.
I have the 2nd cr6 but need help with the other 2 please.
Bye jes
Lol missed the pl of it :-)
That's the only one I have, Scrabbler.
Silly plurals.
Scrab, a wrinkle misspelled
That is the only cr6 that I have, the one that rhymes with mozzarella ch****
Thank you, flosey... as usual, I was going in the wrong direction!
one is plural of third cr5
cr5 is a wicker basket, used by fishermen
the last cr6 isn't in my dictionary or the babble one
just change last letter of the one you have
It sounds like a Dr. Seuss word, flosey... LOL
lol
TY for that last cr6, but I don't know the fisherman cr5 word.
cr 5: c + rod and r***
cr5 - also a framework for holding bobbins used by spinners

I got the 2nd en6 but am still thinking about that first one.
Aha, I got it. TY! Es are done---now to the bottom of the list and I will work backwards.
er7/36 is a lovely anchaicism i've not seen an ages :)
I'd never seen it before dc
PB for flosey and seain
meh
Dang it. If one can fo4/7 someone, as in "Curses, fo4/7ed again!", and you can plural it, why can't the "one who does" it be a word. No answers needed.
LOL
Ty for se4--somehow I missed it before now.
I tried that too, Scarlet. Let's just say that it would be acceptable in OUR dictionary.
and of course DC al se5.... :-) *proud mama look*
Bless you, Scrabbler.
When I play Scrabble with friends we talk about all of the words that SHOULD be acceptable.
hello all, back to find my last 70
LOL, seain... are you doing some Monty Python for us today? LOL
hello sister friend, Scarlet
go peri
Hello dear peri! The basement is conquered!!
Hi, stid... where have you been hiding?

went to my favorite thrift store today but left empty handed. Their prices have really gone up since last year
How are you, peri? Is Philadelphia having some nice weather, at last?
sunny and windy today
Too bad, Periwinkle.
No matter how much I might like something, peri... if it is not manageable in the old budget, I go home empty-handed.
prices are still less than retail. but I actually did not see anything that I liked. You know that I am a really good shopper though.
You are a champion shopper, Ms. Winkle! :-)
thank you very much *taking a bow*
**throwing bouquets**
maybe I should change my name legally to Peri Winkle :-)
Oh peri I really wish I was more like you, I went out at lunchtime on Friday and managed to spend £200!
*oh such lovely fllowers*

Oh, that's right!! You were baptized today, katie?! I don't remember what the protocol is for that... do I say, live long and prosper, be well, bless you... or what? I am not being sassy now.
hmmmm, I see
Let the force be with you, Katie!
It is where you have water poured on your head from the font and then your forehead crossed. It was actually very moving :-)
**snort, Scrab**
Lol scrab, I feel I have more on my side now ;-)
I understand that, katie... but what does one say to another who has just had this experience?
blessings on your baptism katie
A girl at work couldn't see why I didn't lie to the vicar and say I had been Christened as he would never know. I pointed out that his boss would. Therein lies the difference between an athiest and a believer :-)
thanks stid :-)

Awwww... sweet, katie.

Hi, T&C!
Hi, OrangeCat!
My dad was there in 1948. Seems like the only greek he remembers is 'what time is it'. He delights in asking that in greek when it meets someone from Greece. (Of course, he doesn't understand the answer!)

I have two children for rent today -- both in total adolescent moods, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Do I have any takers?
No thanks
Stid what are they doing.

Hi, herin...
now il get it out the way,as i dont want to sound like a scrounger. some of you know i am taking part in a sport relief run. i really appreciate donations http://www.mysportrelief.com/personalP age.aspx?registrationID=117705 there i said it, il leave you alone!
HI Pam
nice pics, leigh and sog
cr 5/12 the 3rd one please
Mama- Only if you are paying me and not the other way around. =)
ty muse
could I have a clue for the last an5/10 please
every time I say their names to ask a question (for example if they want to have some cake) I get a grumble at best or a disdainful remark. And when I have to insist that they do something (like homework/housework) ... well you can imagine.
cr 5/12 - fishing gear (a basket, I think) - cr + long fish
If it weren't for the kids, leigh, I'd have the money to pay you!!!!
You think it's bad now, wait until they get into college.
last an 5 is a small lizard or chameleon
Lol stid, my sympathies are with you
ty jbv got both
sorry, stid...
and, how is your thumb>
the way they are going, they won't qualify for college!!!! grrrrrr
my thumb is improving, finally typing two-handed -- just not using that digit.
They'll qualify, they just might not be living... =P
how old are they stid?
my parents thought shoveling snow was the path to attitude adjustment
couldn't even do that yesterday or this morning
great, stid!
need a clue for ge 5/14, please
LOL thanks leigh!
lol, my answer is don't offer them cake, let them get it for themselves!
we don't have snow in these parts, BR -- or they'd be building an igloo to sleep in tonight.
Stid chuck a tanty your self. Just grunt at them and dont feed them . When they question 'were is my food' tell them 'you can't be poliet and civil and ask for things then nothing for you. NO cake or treats either' and don't do their laundry.
i monkeyed the eg lol
snow shovelling is better than the egregious child abuse I suffered, babblerab! Would that I could have shovelled them...
I have the better solution -- I shall eat all the cake (chocolate) and they shall have NONE. *emphatic fold of the arms*
:-D thanks lady! GMTA!
LOLOL, stid!
I'm sure that's very difficult for you, mama. Such a terrible fate.
oh pam... {{{mama hugs}}}

great minds think alike
just a sign as to how times have changed, when my mom was alive, we had her fill out a journal (for the grandchildren) and it asked "What punishments did your parents give you when you were disobedient?" Her answer ? "We were not allowed to be disobedient"
ahhh, thanks for that explanation!
clue for the as6 please
I told Pinkhat to chuck a tanty the next little pink had a random tanty over nothing. She hasn't chucked a wobbly since.
as 6 -- add loam
*grin* I approve of her parents parenting, JBV...
Well done there Stid
babble do you have a clue for the el4/4?
The answering back is bad enough but shrugging makes me see red, no wonder I could never be a teacher
Oh i like that JBV. I got grounded for a month for being rude to my Nan.
el 4 add one of the indefinite articles
well, that was a very long time ago, but I was raised the same way - we weren't allowed to raise an eyebrow - or shrug a shoulder!
Thanks BR
yes, and my children know better than to treat me this way, but for some reason the last two days they think they can -- and then are upset when I call them on it.
and I had walk to school uphill all three ways
babble can you help out a bit more please
and no physical punishment either - just the weight of knowing our parents were angry was enough to make us stop
Well keep calling them on it still.
Babble wasn't it harder on a windy day?
el 4/4 - distinctive style or flair
LOL< Babble - you forgot barefoot in the snow
oh i am so very please my children have grown up and moved out!!
*pleased
I am very much looking forward to empty-nesting myself, lindrick!
every day is a windy day -- gasbags or weather

er7 is an archaic term for before lo4,6

Another said it had to to with fine metals.
related to the geranium family
Its funny...I garden a lot, but can't place this particular plant....
had the second an5/10, any idea of the first?
according to dictionary known under another name.
Did i miss it?
the fi 7/8 sometimes refers to a pretty thin metal working along the edge of embroidery or metalwork that looks like a bed of tiny clovers
The first an5/10 is an electrochemical term.
not sure if this will help but very similar in structure to delicate, wire ornamentation fi**g***

i am originally from north yorks jacula
Eeh by gum, Lindrick. That's grand to hear. :D
Hast tha lost thee accent?
pmsl jacula
hi, i'm back - sc 5/12 is part of an act in a play - second one is ENglish spelling, first one is Italian spelling
i never really had an accent, my mother used to be an english teacher so..................!!
wb JBV
Oh! A 'posh' Yorkshire lass.:D
ce6/24?
oh but of course!!
hahahaha
LOL
there's no ce6
Sorry, Harp. Not got that yet.
(cr6/24, that is.)
oops, cr6/24 is what I'm looking for!
how many do you have left to get jacula?
36, Lindrick.
oh i have 17 and am struggling now!
Jac, if you have the cr 6/21, the 24 is the same except for the last letter, change the vowel to a 2-point consonant
cr = indian tribe + the be silent sound
oh, i monkeyed and it dind't know it!
Thanks JBV and Shirlock.
sc5/12 after frightens?
Italian word for part of an act in a play.
sc5/12 - parts of acts in plays
like the sc*** of the crime but the last vowel is the first vowel
thx all, fireworks!
i don't think my clues are improving at all maybe i should stop practising and give up!!!
wtg shirlockc
the ce6 after the fishing baskets?please?
Well done, Shirlock.
Lindrick - don't give up.
lol
there's no ce6
harp you mean cr6?
yes that is what i mean, what is wrong with me today?
Harp - it sounds like it needs ironing because it has a pucker or pleat. Diff. 2nd vowel though.
the first one looks like swiss, gruyere or parmesan, just change the h to r
thanks that was it
for the second one 6/24 = take off the final vowel and add a 2-point consonant
na 6/21, please?
See, Lindrick? JBV and me just clued the word in 2 different ways. One way will work for one person and one for another, or both together will bring enlightenment.
yeah but did you read my last clue jacula, it didn't even make any sense!! lol
isn
JBV - copper's sneaks/informers.
oops -= isn't it interesting to see how people's minds work - what we are thinking of.....
thanks, Jacula!
jbv plural of oyster pearl, i think
thanks, harp I have that one = that's na 5
Harp's right, JBV. I'm typing rubbish. LOL
oh, wait - there's a plural?
22 more words to find. *Dives into grid.*
thanks, I was not looking heavenward!
JBV - one should always glance heavenwards every now and again... a plane might be discharging its block of iced toilet contents, or a big bird might be plunging down having died in mid flight, or a cow might have fallen off a place higher up. (Yes, people have been killed by all 3!)
hmm.... or a giant tree branch might be falling on a car - it happened in new york this weekend
actually, it was a whole tree - the picture was amazing! totally flattened the parked car
JBV - we're due for a big storm here with 80mph winds (240mph 5 miles up) later. I hope no one is hurt.
Off to PB----------> I said a word.:(
lol
oooh goodie, i hope it's a word i don't have yet....
we had a very windy weekend here, but not that bad - maybe 40 mph winds - wish you luck with that storm - stay indoors and tie down everything that may get airborne
Will do, JBV.
I had to go out at 1:30 in the a.m. to retrieve my garbage pails which were flying down the street
yeah gl jacula
I've already put a brick on top of the 3 recycling boxes.
I'm more concerned about the prolonged heavy rain forecast, since my house has flooded 4 times before and my insurers withdrew flood insurance.
oh charming of them!
Yep, Lindrick. Charge nearly £80 a month for 'premium' insurance and kick you when you're down.
wow that's a lot
It's building and contents, Lindrick, but it's still a lot, yes.
do you live in a castle or palace?!!
lol
Neither. LOL.
You'd have been ever so shocked if I'd have said, 'Yes' to either of those, wouldn't you, Lindrick? *grins*
who me? i don't shock that easily!!!
anyone need clues?
could someone clue the second fo5?
Especially if my screen name was 'Lizzie2'. LOL
eeuu don't even go there jacula!!
one is plural for 4/7
Paper size, harp.
the other fo5 is fo4/7 + 1st vowel
Or.. a record of work if you put 'port' before it.
Harp, art students keep flat works in a fo5.
thanks
oh no, only 5 left and they are all re's!!
19 left here. Some might be re's. Dunno.
i have 106 to go, you guys are lucky...
i know but i don't like re's, only 3 now!!
We'll help you through, Harp.
re 6/21 anyone please?
oh nevermind i have it
ty anyway
lol
To whack at school again, Lindrick?
re 6/21 is what you do to repair a woven chair seat -
lol ty
great clue, Jacula -
both great JBV
mine was just mundane, Jac's was inspired
lol
Not that it ever happened to me. Our headmaster was a lay preacher and a very lovely man. His way of punishing pupils was to tell them how disappointed he was in them. In those days, when kids had respect for those that respected them, it worked.
too right
so, true, Jacula - were you here before when we were having this very same conversation??
i give in does anyone have re 6/24 & re7/36 please?
Not been he4 for most of the day, JBV, so missed that. Been busy having a family Sunday and cooking a roast, doing some baking, mending, talking, TV watching etc.
re 6/24 - to go back on one's word - as in a business deal
Thanks for those 2, JBV. Didn't even know I needed them until you clued them.
15 to go now...
woohoo finished ty very much
for all your help
Congrats, Lindrick.
well people were responding to a mom who was getting some "adolescent attitude" from her kids and others responded as you did, about how things have changed - all we needed was a stern look and we would not have dared to say or do the things kids do today
True, JBV, but common courtesy, respect and care for others seems, mostly, to have fallen by the wayside now. Sad but true.
it seems to be respect that is missing nowadays
Not everyone is like that, of course, but enough to make a difference world wide are.:(
i wonder how so many lost respect in the first place?
Can't blame tv cos i used to watch tv and violent shows too and i still respected my elders
Lack of discipline from the 'hippy' generation to a degree, methinks. It's a 'ME, ME,ME' world now.
but i am a child of the sixties and the kids in my school all had respect for elders!!
Same here, Lindrick. I meant children after that. (I was born in 1957.)
Lindrick - I guess we're about the same age - and I agree that we were raised differently
There have also been recessions that, rather than leading to 'all pull together' have lead to 'everyone for themself and dog eat dog'.
i was born in '65, but i think it could be something to do with the fact that kids can sue their parents and such like
i brought my children up to respect their elders, i was quite strict in the beginning and then could relax somewhat when they knew their boundries
Well, Lindrick, they can in USA (sue their parents) but it's only just starting here in UK. Not sure it's that. I do think the rise of too much 'political correctness' has led to a loss of pride in both oneself and one's country over he4.
it can't help can it jacula
Jacula, your grandma said the same thing... and her grandma did too... all the way back to the first writings we have from Socrates and such, complaining that the new generation doesn't care about anything but itself. :)
it is probably a mix of lots of things, but it's not a good way to go really
Also consider how the world around us has changed - you mentioned tv- but today's kids are exposed to much more - they have the world at their fingertips with the computer
Lindrick - I brought my children up same way, only to respect those who treated them with respect. My kids and all their friends are the ones I hope will shape the future. Unfortunately, the feral majority might win out. (It's like Mad Max out there at times.)
so the idea of protecting or sheltering kids is no longer valid - they lose their innocence much earlier
I strongly agree with children suing their parents, depending on what for. Sexual assault, you betcha. But for a less sensational example, even MINOR children "sue" their parents in car crashes -- this is done to make the parents' insurance company pay what it is supposed to pay.
I still think it comes down to the values instilled at a young age that insures kind caring individuals
I like the phrase "feral majority" - hadn't heard that before!
Thanks, Ankh, 'tis my own phrase. *Makes copyright sign on it" LOL
i agree ank but a lot of parents are becoming afraid to chastise their children because of the fact that they can be sued
Lindrick, I don't believe it. I think that sort of thing is netlore -- to sue for physical abuse, the court would demand a remarkable standard of proof, burns and broken bones, something like that.
:: bows to wordsmith Jacula! ::
Good evening to my fellow babblers? How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
hi min wb
Hiya, Min! I'm being boring-attorney-hamster again.
Hi, Minver. We're talking about the state of the world today (like 'old folks' do!) Isn't finding me my final 15 though. LOL
anyone need any clues before i go?
I'd better dive back into the grid, stimulating though this conversation is.
Hi kids!
I need to go tooo...
Hi, Scrabbler!!
hi scrabbler
*waves to Lindrick. I'm okay, thanks. Nice to meet you.*
you too jacula
Thanks for the chat, Jacula, Lindrick! Must dash... ::: dashes ::: P O O F !
Hi, Scrabbs. (I'm down in the grid. See you and Calliw in a bit.)
I have become a curmudgeon in my late 40's, with lots of opinions about youngsters and the state of the world.
bye everyone catch you tomorrow probs, have fun babbling
Who will clue for me? Waaahhh.
Don't panic, Scrabbs. I'll keep one eye on you.
what do you need scrabbler?
Bye Linrickway
I mean Lindrickway---tough name to type.
Hi everyone! Scrabbler, how much snow did you get? We got 10.6 inches
Hi Everyone! I'll clue you Scrabs
The last ra6 and the first re6 please?
oh there you go scrabbler, cya all later
(It'll probably make me look mentally challenged with both eyes going in opposite directions, Scrabbs, but anything for a friend. LOL)
Oh no, the state of the world?! I didn't come here to get depressed! Do not even get me started with the state of the world today! All I know is we need a new President. Not that the new President will be able to change the state of the world.Just change the state of things in Iraq hopefully.Anyway, I will shut up now.
bye Lindrickway
hello my subjects
Well-timed entrance there, lbd!
hello Nutty
scrabs, some folks might wrestle, others ra****
Amen, Min (and hello)
momzoid, how ya doin?
guilty by re**** of being caught red handed! lol
not too bad, thanks for asking. And you?
We got 21 inches of snow from friday through this AM, and more has been falling for the last several hours.
NUTTY!
Hi Scrabbler! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
*jumps* dawggy!!
Hello Mom!How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
oh geez, Scrabbler. That would bring us to a complete stop here
Hi lbdawger! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
ok here dawg, just about to have a wine cooler to help me get to sleep in spite of the time thingy
just fine Min, thanks. and yourself?
21"? Blimey! The UK grinds to a halt if 2" falls. LOL
Hi evanonut! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Nut, you going to be awake for a bit?
*gives up for the moment on missing 'l' word which is running away from her and giggling. Moves on to missing r words...*
oh, i'd say 30 minutes or so
go to lickety's chat, okay?
um, ok
I am well. I got no snow yesterday, just rain and wind
I would have preferred the rain
so why am i in lickety's chat?
to answer some of my more computer illiterate questions.
Is Lickety's chat on BE different from this chat. Just wondering. Don't use Lickety's Babble Expert version
yes minver, it's a meebo chat room
ok dawggie, i'm in there
finally seeing fireworks! thank you for all your help - and good night everyone!
the chat looks different. all i can see is me.
congrats JBV
Congratulations JBV on your fireworks!Good for you!
strange, all i can see is me too
Goodbye JBV! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log.
whooo hoooo JBV
maybe you wanna get on yahoo instead?
Sorry, I got paged, then got a call, and now I have to call a mother about her kid's fever.
evanonut, what does that mean, it is a meebo chat?
k, i'll see if i can get that to work.
Well done, JBV.
Scrabbler, I have a medical question for you.Maybe I will send it to you in an email later on. Is that alright?
You may e-mail me, Minveryork, so as to maintain confidentiality.
meebo is a service minver, you can use it to talk on all instant messengers, and you can also have a personal chat room, i used to have it on the babblecast page.
nut, i'm having to download yahoo. be a few minutes
All this high tech is totally not me at all! The internet and cell phones are about as high tech as I get! LOL!
Nut - is that chat not on babblecast now?
Looking for 9 's' words and one 'l' now.
Is Mom still he4? I wanted to know how much snow she got. Or was it her that said 10.6 inches?
Jacula, which actors are in the Root of all Evil?Never heard of it before. Is it a British movie? I'll Google it.
evening
Hello Featherbee
yeah, the time thing has messed both dan and nick up today
I finished the S's, Jacula as I am working reverse alphabetically after I did A-E.
Hi All
I do not like this time change. I wish they would pick one and leave it
Hi DR
We are messed up too, Featherbee. Damn sun stayed out a lo4 time this evening.
Hi Mom.I agree about the time change
Hi DR
Hello featherbee! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Google it, Minver. It's about genetically modified killer trees. LOL
Hi DR, Hi feather!
Hello DR1965!How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Our time change must be soon.
Hi Dawg!Min! Jac! Feather! SCrabs!
i love having the sun longer in the evening. but it totally messed with naps today, as their bodies were still on the "old" time schedule! daniel skipped his nap totally. played on his bed for 2 1/2 hours!
I think you all are near the end of the month, Jacula or the beginning of April
I just googled the movie Jacula. Don't know anybody in it. It's from 2008. Did I google the right one Jacula
hopefully, that will mean he'l lcrash and burn soon, feather
Happy Birthday Feather Bee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You lost an hour on your special day!
a birthday? Happy birthday, Feather
yeah, he crashed fast! i didn't even leave his bed after stories...i realized he was very quiet up against my shoulder, and looked over, zzzzzz
thank you all!
Many happy returns of the day Feather!
Happy Birthday featherbee!I hope you had a great b-day, besides Daniel not taking a nap. What did you do
but i gained an hour of evening light!
I have people's birthdays listed on Facebook.
i just gave up after a while and had him come out. he was actually in better spirits than i was afraid of
happy birthday Feather!
Mom - 30th March, I just checked on the calendar.
Hi feather. I wished you HB on our game chat.
Feather! Just saw that it is your bday on Facebook! Happy happy!
is it just me who has totally lost track of how old i am after i hit the thirties?
:) i saw that jac!
Hi Krista
won't be long then
Hi {{Krista}}
doesn't help that hubby is almost exactly a year older than me, so i always think i'm his age. his birthday was this past sunday.
Ah, if you saw it Feather then it must be my turn again. LOL.
Hey guys :) Hi Feather
Hi BrokenStasis
feather - you should have found yourself a chap 12 years' younger, like wot I did (2nd time around). LOL
going to go tidy up my other scrabble games, brb in a sec
hi mom, DR! too late to start grid, but wanted to say hi and HB to Feather
Hi, brokenStasis.
it is good to see you Krista..
so glad to see you, Krista
:) thanks again for all the well wishes
ever so welcome feather
aw thanks :) feels like I've not been on here for ages..think it was 2 days
and you weren't suffering withdrawal, Krista?
I had awful withdrawal! But had to catch up on things that "went to pot" when I was sick (is that a local saying or do others use, too?)
I use it a lot, Krista
hi eveyone! back to find my last 50 words :)
{{LilMonkey}} hello
hi Monkey
hi mom! {hugs}
hee hee..i don't even know what it means, but I use it a lot,too..because things are always going to pot!!
hi Dr.!
hi Monkey woman
hi krista!
that saying and things are going to hell in a hand basket is another I use a lot
LOL i've heard that one too, mom
clue for si6 please?
OK, phone calls are done. 43 to go.
hi all, and i share my first phantoms with you: canoli, genie, saloon, saline, congeal
Hi Gwen
ooh, that's useful in my house, too :) I did read the origin of that one once, but forget now
my house has gone to pot
Hi Gwen
si + road/street
ever since i had a second baby!
si+ narrow road.
hi Scrabbs and Gwen
si + Beatles song Penny ****
si- car pool ****
You shouldn't be smoking pot at your age, Featherbee.
ty Dawger
and others :)
Lol, three different clues
lol, heaven forbid!
me too, and the baby is almost 7!
oh no krista! i was hoping there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel soon! lol
me three and my baby is 20
naughty feather!
i always make an attempt, but except for rare occasions, i can never seem to get the whole house straightened up at the same time. like now, the dining room and living room are pretty good, daniel's room and nick's room are disasters, and my room is shut the door worthy
lol Feather.
Lol, Mom...and I keep hoping, too feather...but I guess the kid-related clutter never ends..that's exactly the same here...one step forward, three steps back
in the next few nights, i'll work on the bedrooms, and in the meantime the living/dining room will look like a tornado of toys hit it
I follow the philosphy ... my house is clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to be happy.
I'm back, 7 left to find. I was just talking to my son about state of house and how when you work full-time you manage your time much better. LOL
i would need both boys to be gone for 24 hours to get the entire house done at once
i like that philosophy mom
for me the question is "where to hide the clutter" not "how much clutter to throw out" LOL
i'm working on my scrabulous turn, feather..if you could do your whole house in one day, you're not as far gone as u think
love the plastic containers, Gwen
oh, Mom, I really like that saying...that's plaque-worthy
i had finally gotten myself cut waaaay down on the clutter before daniel was born. then this kid arrives with all his toy-clutter!
thanks Krista, it is a life saver for me
move it around a buit, yes, but i'm too lazy to throw it away. anyway, half of it is to be recycled as soon as I find all the places to take it!
let me amend that: the whole upstairs part of the house. let's not even discuss the family room downstairs, which became the repository of all the stuff that had been in nick's room! i'd like to turn that into a family/play room this summer, but don't know where to start.
I think we get overwhelmed by so much clutter we don't know where to start
The 2nd fo5 please?
scrabs, a port fo***
That is how I feel, Mom....like, "Someday I will clean that closet/room/drawer/cupboard..."
Ty, dawger!
I use the FlyLady philosphy, and it has helped
www.flylady.net
i love flylady
we're doing the same with the basement, Feather..the half we want to start using is unfinished, so it will be a lot of work, but we need more elbow room..love having all of us home al the time, but it has its disadvantages...she has helped me a lot, Mom! I love her!
I know the feeling Scrabbler
that's how i cut down on my own clutter before daniel
she is good
canoli, arg!
i need a flylady for working moms though
I'm in "LO hell" right now...
hi all. as 6 please? cant get it.
lol Monkey
doesn't she have something like that, Feather
Hi MKG
Xscuse my *expletive*
TY for that reference, Mom. I see on there a book called "Body Clutter"--that is a good term for my thighs and belly.
hi mkg
dunno, been a while since i've been to the site. hmm, daniel's 3 and a half? ok, so been about 4 years since i've been there!
as + another word for dirt (the so 4/4 word)
I have that book, but haven't read it yet (as my fat body can attest)
Gwen - comes a time when you have to give stuff away, recycle it, bin it or sell it. It's quite liberating. I'm still in the midst of doing it. It was hard with the books though, I admit.
she addresses working moms a lot, Feather//maybe that is new since you left
I think I have that book too. Definitely not using it
you're welcome for the site, Scrabbler
Anybody have the last 3 GE words--ge6-7-8?
I've not read or he4d of the book, 'Body Clutter' but, a 50 and having had 2 kids, I have some. LOL
I'm sure these sour gummy worms I'm eating are very nutritious
I bookmarked the site, Mom!
i still use the timer to do fast room sweeps!
Scrab, think military, top army leader is ge 7 and two of them are g3 8
hey, give me the orange ones, krista
Mom - I, too, have bookmarked the site.
Danke, Inge--I got all 3 now!
the ge 6 reminds me of non-brand drugs
ty for the as 6 word clue. got it.
if u sign up for the reminders, scrabbs..be prepared for a lot of email.. but I still allow them..figure one day I'll use them **hands Scrabbler all the orange gummies**
i AM TRYING to change my icon. BBL
I hope it helps all of you.
FlyLady will send me reminders? When I sign up I better tell her that I am a procrastinator! Will she know when I ignore her reminders?
Nipping off to find my last 7 words.
Scrabbler, nah, she won't know
LOL, Scrabbs.
Scrabbler, I would be happy to send you her book, if you would like
yep, Feather..that's the best thing from her "I can do anything for 15 minutes"
i never read sink reflections
lol, I have her timer sitting right here, I was going to use it for babble, but decided nah
The only GN words I know are gnus and gnocchi.
Good decision, Mom. You live life how YOU want, that's my philosophy.
and gnostic, which helps not
There's a gn that is a rough bit of a cut off branch left on a tree.
gn + pirate word.... me hearties!
i had to get a new timer, hers broke finally after daniel had his hands on it. i do have her feather dusters too!
..Jim lad. etc.
oh I love the feather dusters
They don't work for Babble. ;)
i like the 27 fling boogie too, but usually just go for the timer
ty Jac!
TY, Jacula.
and there's that tiny littel gnat, also not in the grid 8-(
Gee, my computer keeps updating itself, and now I don't know how to put the image of my choice into my icon. Will try again tomorrow. Gute Nacht.
y/w, DR. Now shut me up until I've found my final 6 words.
'Night, inge.x
they really are better than most, and I have bad dust allergies...it must be the purple feather in the middle
good night Inge
one thing i've learned to do when cleaning up toys, don't know if it's from flylady or my own thing: i take a laundry basket and just toss EVERYTHING in the basket in 5 minutes. then i set the basket on a table and sort through it. saves a lot of backtracking as i put things where they need to go, and makes the room look tons better instantly!
definitely the purple one
Gute nacht, Inge.
GET TO WORK JAC
night inge
daniel likes to help me dust with them
Argh, another phone call---fever phobia is today's theme, as usual.
*cowers* Oh, okay Inge. *dives backintogridtrembling*
salsi, plural of salsa. not a word????
Phew. Just found a nice calm word, se6/18.
I tried salsa at least twice today.
basket thing good idea...especially when you are good and actually put the stuff away later
2nd jo4 please?
maybe it's salsae, Gwen :)
i force myself to do it right away as much as possible. longest the basket ever sat is one day. it's such a morale booster to see the room look better almost instantly!
it's a non-traditional plural: salsoom LOL
**thinking of Jerry Seinfeld + George Costanza saying "Salsa, salsa."
true confessions: two days ago I put things away from a clothes basket that I use to clean off kitchen table in Dec. Found lots of interesting things I had been looking for.
angelina jo**e
Now I've found an sn5/10 so I can be nasty! LOL
oops, wrong vowel...but you can play with it.
it's ok kirsta. i have a clothes basket down in the garage that has miscellaneous things in it from when we moved in to this house...several years ago! just seems to be one of those things i never get to.
TY, dawger--I figured it out.
Are we finished Jacula??? Back to work!
ah, the joys of finding things you thought you'd never see again! 8-)
They are like little time capsules! Yeah, that's it! It's fun to look through them years later.
LOL!
*tackles krista then runs off to sleep*
That Krista woman is a hard taskmaster. 3 to go. *wipes weat off brow and dives back into grid.*
Time to head out for the night. See you all tomorrow
*sweat.
night, Nutty
'Night, Mom.
You asked for our assistance, Jac..just accomodating you. **whip**
and Nut.
night, Mom. sweet dreams
good night Nutty, pleasant dreams
Bye, Mom. Sleep well.
Gnight Nut and Mom
***Ouch*** nut
Lol, Krista. It's working!
Sleep well, Momma.
pleasant dreams Jacula, LBD, Scrabbler and DR. See you tomorrow
thanks Krista, pleasant dreams to you
night mom and nut
waiting for Jac's fireworks.....
okay, caught up with the chat, but missed the website you are all referring to.
as 6 please?
as+ dirt, DR
It is flylady.net.
as6 = as + s*** word for dirt
as6 ends in fancy name for dirt
as + so4 (dirt)
www.flylady.com Eieios
thx, scrab.
ty all got it
and dawg. =)
I've now found 'comfort'in my last 2 's' words. Only that naughty, giggling, hiding l/4 to find now..
Ah, yes, Jacula--those are nice words.
Gwen...need some advice on antique books...
i'm back for one last stab at the last ra6/18. any clues?
le5/14 please?
dunned it! FIREWORKS!:-)
WTG Jac!!!
krista, what's up?
ar + Don't ha****/bother me with that.
things you walk on + two letters for plural
whooo hooo JAC
le5/14 is what you walk on with an extra vowel before the plural ending
Yahooo Jacula!!
hillary, some folks wrestle others ra****
any clues for the last ra6/18?
Ty, Hillary.
wtg jacula ~~~ !!!
trying to get rid of my clutter, and just picked up a carload of books from my mother's house..is there a site you can recommend for selling them/researching prices? I've sold some books on eBay, but find listing them very tedious..thought about donating them to the local AAUW book sale, but would like to at least know what I am donating. Some of them are from the 1800s; the oldest is 1802!!
14 to go....
go, scrabs, go!
Wow, Krista--those must be worth some $$$$!
Go Scrabs!
Mylast word was an le4 that follows the things you walk on. Made me think of a lift sc5/12 between Goldie Hawn and Peter Sellars in a Pink Panther film.
krista, i agree, ebaY is tedious, but might be your best venue if 1) you are an anatuer and 2) you want to get the most $4 you can. however . . .
(amateur and $$ i meant)
can anyone help with the last ra6/18?
sorry lb, just saw your clue
I clued it below for you, Hillary.
however, you have other options, and I would start with your local used book dealer: call and ask if they can give you a free appraisal on them. if you have more than 3 or 4, though, then just bring the best loking 3 or 4
hey, peeps
(best looking) (oy)
Sorry, Hillary, I typed AR instead of RA. Silly Scrabbler.
hi tyger
Hi Tyger
krista, there is a Book Board on eBay. many pro sellers hang out there, and some of them are very nice about helping people figure out what their books are worth
hey, scrabs, dawg
most used-book dealers can are at least willing to look over a few books, but won't look over a whole ton of them for free advice
fi 8 and 7 please?
not sure, Scrabbs, but they were certainly fun to look through..made me sick how she got them...the Episcopal church behind our house was cleaning out the rectory sometime in the 70's...my brother came running home with armloads of these books...which they were burning on a bonfire! ACCKK..a former parishoner..in 1899, according to the bookplates, donated them to the church
what gwen said - when you've got a big bunch, the cheapest route by far is to do your own research. there is lots of info available online, entirely aside from the eBay book board
That is awful Krista! Oh, how I love books!
if these books have any serious value they cannot be evaluated sight unseen
Last ra6/18 is plural Indian princesses.
tks all for your help... i find it hard to switch back and forth in time... then when I go to type a message my fingers turn into thumbs
Etend the ra5/10 before it.
mkg, fi5.16 + two vowels
krista, if you would like to send me an email ( gwenfoss@netrek.net ) I can give you more detailed advice . . .
*feels faint* burning them? bonfire? ack!
EXtend, I meant.
that's the second last Jacula
fi7&8 common name for a plant - fi4/7 + an oboe is a ***d instrument
ok, thank you very much, Gwen...I appreciate the advice..I will try it all..online research, local, etc.
Burning books?? *swoons*
krista, don't forget the eBay book discussion board
*leans against jac* let's steady each other
I've seen lots of people get help there (useta hang out there)
Okay, feather, let's do that.
tyger, how does one find this book board on ebay? (she hesitates to ask)
I agree, jac & feather, that's the horridest thing I've heard in a while
krista -- have a look at abebooks.com
Yes! Isn't it awful? And most of them were NOT church books, which I don't think have much value. There was a first edition Nathaniel Hawthorne book at one time..not sure what happened to that one.
my freshman college roommate once stepped on a book i had let fall of the edge of my bed when i was reading in bed and tore the cover. i never forgot that.
Fireworks--TY all for clues!
Erm... feather, what happens when one of us wants a wee or when one of your kids wakes up?
some books are only good for using as winter heat sources. like romance novels and old phone books!!
Well done, Scrabbs.
wtg scrabbler ~~~ !!!
WTG Scrabs!
if I could get into my other PC, I could give you a link, but it's acting up. look for the discussion or message boards on eBay, and you'll find them organized by class of object
whoooo hooooo SCRABS!!!
yay, scrabs
hmm....someone want to get us some chairs here?
amen to that, Gwen
abebooks.com deals in rare and old books
yay scrabs!
thanks Tyger, I had forgotten about the various boards on eBay..
lemme see if I can find them on this puter. BRB
jilli..never heard of that site, thanks
tyger, where are the discussion boards on ebay? (I've used ebay on and off for years and never found them!)
hello9 all
gwen, thank you..when I bring them inside I'll let you know some of the titles and see what u think
Hi Jilli
Looks like we'llhave to cope alone, feather!
hello
may i please have a clue for ge4,6 the third
bring them inside? oh no, don't leave them outside, krista!!
I'm with ya, guys! I'm still reeling from the story.
They are in the car...bad idea?
Burning books, aside from being a horrible reminder of 'Reformation' times, isn't great for the environment. Paper and card rot down without any nasty gasses and without any need for fumes from burning. Think of all the Mills and Boon novels used for pulp under the M6 motorway extension he4 in UK.
Time for bed--I did not sleep well last night. TY all for clues. See you tomorrow. (Krista, listen to the Book Doctor.)
oh, i guess the car is okay. i was thinking a shed or something
I have 49 left, now tackling the R words -- maybe. I'm not enjoying this grid -- too big and too full of obscure and archaic words -- a waste of time IMHO
'Night, Scrabbs.
wow, 900 zillion cookies, finally into MyeBay, but still more cookies B4 I can look for you gwen
BRB
Nighty night, Scrabbler!
i have two boxes of books in my car, too 8-)
I don't like being driven to morewords
They are safer there than in here at the moment. :)
sweet dreams, Scrabs
night scrabs
Hi, jilli.
hi jac
I'm nipping off to see what awful position feather has left me in on our Facebook scrabble game. BBS
krista -- love your sea dragon!
may i please have a clue for ge4,6 the third please
Ooops..forgot to change my icon..thanks, Jilli..I couldn't believe such a creature existed when I saw them at the aquarium.
OK, on the eBay community page, there is a link for discussion boards. on the discussion board page, you'll see Category Specific Discussion Boards, and under that, one for booksellers
i got distracted by ebay
found a great little bear game i want to get daniel
dna contains ge**s
ea 5 clue please?
that ga4/6 is just the kind of word I destest in Babble -- an obsolete word from Chaucer, meaning yawn. Add half of the Hawaiian goose to the ga.
going to eby to see if i can find the boards now BRB
i need help with the third sa5/10, any ideas?
Damn it, feather. You're 43 points ahead.
problem with eBay is it's one of those websites where the idiot programmers do MULTIPLE writes to all the cookies for each page as it loads
we were just talking about Little Bear today at my parents' house..we love it still..wish they made new ones
oops that's ge the 4th - ge the third is the plural of hair ge*
ea5 is very keen, MKG.
3rd sa5/10 is alternate spelling of India woman's dress
mkg, ea5 sometimes paired with beaver in describing someone avid about something.
hillary - 3rd sa5/10 is Indian garment for females with a diff. spelling. Not one vowel but 2 of another.
don't worry jac, too many vowels right now to do much
WOWZA...10pm already...thanks for the chat, all..see you again soon
krista, it's the stupid DST
nite, nite
fireworks!
yes...I don't like it..ty again for advice, all
Well done, monkey.
80 to go
here I go.....
problem when one is referring to Indian is to discriminate between people from the sub-continent and N Amer natives :P
yay, monk
go, harp
found the boards, thanks, tyger! (not sure if' i have time to read tham, tho)
go harp go!
sub-continent word, tyger, for the woman's garment. Long length of cloth wrapped around and about in a very clever fashion that I've still not quite got the hang of. But I will!
whooo hoooo MONKEY!
whew! I really had to ra6 that grid!
i went jac
tks tyg and jac
and krista, i went on ours too, if you're still here
ty got the ea finally!!!!!!!!!!!whew
Went where, feather? Oh no! You don't mean it's my turn again? I'll take it later, if so.
how bout er 7 and the next er 7?????
no prob!
mkg, er7 is er + if you skin your knee, it's called an abr*****
the other er is er + football player Howi* **** (hope you watch football)
mkg - 1st er7 = scraping away of flesh surgically. Like the 'wearing away by sea on rocks' word but diff. 2nd vowel. er7/36 is old poetic word for 'soon' or 'before too much time has passed'.
lilmonkey - her in Midlands of UK we call that knee injury a 'scrage'. Bet that's not in the Enable dictionary.
i have the ge 8. what does the other start with?
ty jacula!
fi 8/55
thx, demi
y/w, Gwen.
haven't ever heard of that, Jac!
fi8/55 is plural
eie, other is fi8
good to know.
fi8/55 is plural of the fi7/40 before it, which extends the fi5.16 before it, which extends the fi4/7 before it.
LOL
gwen, did you find the book board?
yep, tyger, thanks. in fact the fiurst post i looked at seemed more intelligent that i expected (joke!)
Well, monkeym I think it's a Brummie/Black Country (West Midlands) UK word.
satnrose is one of those who are very nice about helping people
UK people, are you familiar with "cockney slang" where one uses a different rhyming word for something else? Like "i bounced a Gregory" (Gregory PECK rhymes with check)
yw, gwen
is it the fi 4/7 that is a homonym for a type of dough?
Monkey - yes, but sometimes translating it needs some thought.
monk, didja know there's a website explaining those? (I can't get to it; it's on the other PC) :(
no offense, but it's the stupidest thing i've ever heard
yes, eie
hi eveyone
or at least I thought it was; I checked, and dic said it was a threadlike structure
hey, andree
monk, the object of cockney slang is to be impenetrable to outsiders :P
lil, seriously, you've never heard of any thing stupider than rhyming slang? like pet rocks or anything?? 8-)
Hi all...back to see if I can get my last 120!!!
sorry, eie, for giving you a wrong tip
Hello Andree! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
any clue for the ec 4
good luck, lori
Hello lori ann!How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
hmmmm, i think the cockney accent itself makes understanding them impenetrable to outsiders
ec4?? I'm finished, lori, and I don'ts gots any ec words
what wrong tip, tyger? i am still trying to monkey it.
LOL, monk
the root word for the 8 has a different vowel ending than the dough word
ge5/14 ?
but I do agree, pet rock is stupid too
woops, I can't read my own writing tyger. I went to the list and wrote the wrong letter down. LOL
Rhyming sl5/14 has it roots in reason, as does the code spoken in WW2. I can't remember what my M-I-L spoke then but it had its roots in Navajo.
ge5,14 is flying honking birds
ge5/14 - large birds (pl) - domestic ones are mostly white
thanks --- so obvious yet so hidden
I'm doing well minn...thanks for asking hope all is well with you.
clue for cr 5 12 second one please??????????
yw, hill
Bf's mom's husband ( a Brit) says rhyming slang was started so cockney blokes could discuss things in front of police and not be understood
No weather forecasts were broadcast in WW2 and all place signposts were removed.
2nd cr5/12: a container for holding a fisherman's catch
oops, that's the 3rd one
2nd one is another large bird
cr 5/12:cr plus another word for butt or donkey mkg
cr + word for your bum
this bird just happens to be one that also fishes :D
lil monkey got that one. the next is what i need. sorry, i guess it is the third 5 12. ooops.
I'm off now. Happy Babbling to you all.
clue for the first re6/18 please?
monk, 1st cr5/12 is Gk goddess of farming
cr + slithery water animal
that fi 7/8 combo looks like it is missing a letter. lol
2nd cr5/12 is big bird, 3rd is what you clued
i know i'm going to yelp when i find it, but can someone point me in the direction of the ee4/4?
ty got it.
any clue on the AL 5,10
i can't keep my eyes open. not enough sleep this weekend w/ company in town.
Make that EL 5,10
1st re6/18 is another word for logic
lil*monkey, that story rings true, although I can't confirm it from the point of view of heavy research. there are many examples of "new languages" (variations on English) invented for such purposes
a + lo4
That ee 4/4 word is a slippery water animal hillary.
snakey in water things, hillary.
ok then, e + lo4
for example: Pig Latin, Gibberish, and Boontling
thanks tyger
thanks min... looking at the wrong ee's of course
el5/10: e + flank (part of animal)
yw, dorens
i'm out... night all
Pig Latin - that's it, Gwen. Thanks!
i think i pissed off BF's mom's husband, b/c I called rhyming slang "the ebonics of England"
:D monk
nite, dorens
She's tutored me (a former Latin student) in it, but I still don't get it. LOL
Goodbye Dorens! I will see you tomorrow in the chat!
al5/10: a + flank
okay, i have words from every letter and am way past half way.
wow, my eyes are starting to burn. I was planning to stay on here and help clue, but I think I'm gonna hafta give it up
nytol
That will have to do for tonight! going mimis, all. sweet dreams
Gibberish is way more fun than Pig Latin, IMNSHO
me too tyger... off to beddy bye
what is IMNSHO
need se5/14 and next 4 se words please, seem to be blind to them
in my not so humble opinion
Twas brillig and the slithey tothes di gyre and gimble in the wabe... kind of agree with you there, Gwen.
last two cr6/s, any clues?
gibberish is what my 18month old grandaughter speaks, lol
jacula, that is Carrollish, not Gibberish LOL
TY dr. gwen... still learning "text speak"
In My Not So Humble Opinion, monkey.
no, there is a specific English code-language called Gibberish
the last lo5?
is text speak called Gibberish?
Love Carollish, Gwen!
plural of not short, harpjane
The Gibberish that I know is purely oral, and I learned it about 30 years ago. text speak is something that came along after the world wide web, as far as I know
It's perfectly understandable to any scholar of the English language but not to 'Jerry' foreigners. LOL Which was the point.
oh, i have something in the wrong order....
Lasty lo5 is verb form of the aeons before it. You want him... you yearn for him.. youy lo5 for him. LOL
good evening all
hi doxy
any help with those se words i asked for at 9.25 please
Hello doxy1lover! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Hi Everyone -- finally made it home this afternoon -- already miss that lovely warm weather in Palm Desert!
hi nan
Text speal gives us things like 'c u l8r'. ??? Ah! 'See you later'.
i'm struggling with the se5/14 myself andree but i can tell you that the last two you asked about are plural of vaccine and the same with added consonant.
la 5 10 please and the 6 18 after it?????????
text speak must have evolved from vanity license plates LOL
However, 'see you later', a term coined in the 80's/90's... didn't mean what it seemed to. No not later today. Sometime, anytime, maybe never. Oh LOL.
That one still gives me gyp!
(Annoys me!)
mkg think the first three letters of a word meaning big and add a double vowel, then plural
25 left and life's too short. bye all
se5/14 = s + word for 'self' with a consonant in the midddle.
ty got it hillary...............
by hillary
thx hillary and jac
Goodbye hillary! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!
