HI STRANGER

hi everyone
hi andree

if you came on at 3 here there's always a glitch
how do you play this game?
hi Andree
fireworks!
you don't you just sit and talk to me lol
oh my! just realized have only 6 words to go
Hey Jemima! long time no see!
Hi there
wtg Just, good for you - haven't seen you all night
yay just
let's all hold hands and skip in a circle
I've been here and clued you a few times lolol
after you
hi andree
Jem I was bugging westie to get you here and owlie too!
too tired after Buster walking?
lol west, just got up to go to work
the words have to be 4 or more letters and have to touch like tangle
but you get 24 hours more or less to add them
it says 21 hours left?
oh I see
the stats tell you how many each word starts with
new grid starts at 1 am here
3pm here
think I get it now
well night everyone, nice to see you here Jem hope you'll come back
nite just
Night just, I will
good!
bye just
you can't put words from the grid in the chat box and if you do you'll be put in the Penalty Box but it's all in good fun and there are usually good things to eat there
but it's all right to ask for clues
when you have all the letters in one tile stat it gets greyed out
does anyone have a clue for st7 please?
not yet flosey
jem that means the word starts with st and has 7 letters
what does that mean?
4 to go, can't leave without finishing when this close
look below
flosey can jem use lickety's list if she's not pro?
that's really a big help gives the first 2 letters of a word and the point count
i think she can use list west
am not sure west, I don't remember how we brought the original one up
getting the hang of it. I'll have to go now, but I'll get up earlier now I've found it
ok thought you had gone already
was letting Buster out
bye all, tc
can she get the Babble expert from Lickety?
jon is still feeling bad and he has to drive to the office tomorrow for all day meetings..75 miles each way
poor Jon
hopefully he'll get some help on friday
that's quite a drive, please tell me he doesn't do that every day
he must do
Fireworks, btw
see you tomorrow
no flosey he works from home and does most meetings over the phone but this is an 'emergency'
by jemima, hope to see you again
yay flosey
bye jemima
yay flosey and bye jem so nice to see you
nice to have him around west
it is but he's usually glued to his computer..he's very quiet and well behaved lol
just the way it should be, lol
hubby retired and became a farmer - no animals, gardens only
at home his office is in the basement since we've been here in Maine he's taken over the guest room and we're pretty much on top of each other..when it gets nicer he can work outside
hi all
oh I'll bet that's great love fresh everything
down to only one crutch and allowed to walk now!!!
have never been to Maine, hear it's beautiful
great ardi that didn't take long at all
it's pretty here but has been pouring for the last 3 days
felt like an eternity...lol
we're so far south though that it's more like new hampshire we're on the coast in Ogunquit beautiful beach
ok, goodnight all, be back tomorrow night
oh ardi I'm sure it did for you
gn flosey tc and I love all your dolls
westford - i just came in - i'm from RI too!
nite nite flosey
hi fran where are you?
aww man, ni4 is in the grid...pb for me
I'm sure I must know you as RI is so small that everyone knows everyone else ...do you get that too?
in cranston. i'm "From" indiana orig, but lived here for almost 9 yrs
have 2 cousins there
you're up in maine right now? haven't managed to get up there yet for vacay, but want to one day! i imagine it's beautiful
cousins in cranston or IN?
cranston
yep it's def a small state, in many many ways
we're having our kitchen in RI completely renovated so we came up to the summer cottage while the work is being done
only trouble it's not summer here yet lol
wow. yeah, i was just thinking that. we got spoiled with 80 degree weather last week and now i'm back to sweaters!
never put those sweaters away
at least we have heat
some summer places don't
ha that's good. i'm actually not complaining as i HATE the hot humid months. i dread them
at least they don't last too long
we're heading back to RI after the 4th of July and then the renters take over
IMO they do! :) but, it could be worse. we have it pretty good here in RI - not too many 'mother nature' scenarios to go bad for us, unlike other parts of the country
so where did you live when you moved away from here?
that's true but I can remember some pretty good hurricanes
all over hubby was in the navy
spent a lot of time in CA..
well, luckily i wasn't here for those. i had to brave tornados in indiana tho... what was your fave place to live? and least fave
we lived in San Fran for 2 years - i Love it there. want to move back one day
no contest Coronado, CA favorite Beeville, TX least favorite although the people there were outstanding
we were in Monterey too beautiful there
what did you like about coronado
ohhhh i agree. lovely
i just mapped coronado - water water water! and perfect weather i'm guessing!
the small town atmosphere walked everywhere but just across the bridge from San Diego
my only experience with san diego was zipping down to the zoo one day. spent a summer in orange county
we owned a house there but sold it when we moved back east couldn't buy a cardboard box there now
ohh i know. :( every 'good' place is sooo expensive now. it's insane
we were just back there in October and nothing has changed
well i'm sure it's good for you to be back near family tho
our kids were young when we lived in Coronado and it was always so safe
one daughter lives north of SD she went back right after college
so we still have our CA connection
oh well that's good. we still have a good friend in marin county, and planning a visit there next year. :) let me ask you a cat question - i see u have one boy and 2 girls. ever have peeing issues?
i have 4 cats, one is a boy. and we're having issues Galore
no we don't and we're lucky our daughter had a male that had to mark everything even though he had been neutered
yes, well, we got billy when he was about 3 mos and he was fixed right away - he's 2 now. this has been going on for about a year plus, but one or more of the girls are doing it too. exhausting. what did your daughter do?
is he youngest, oldest or in the middle?
she gave him to us lol
and he never did it again
I think her house was too chaotic..she had so many animals and a big silly dog
youngest. one girl is 10, had her since a kitten in CA; one girl is about 8 now, had her almost 6 yrs; one girl i think is under 5, had her just over 2 yrs
sounds like he's trying to assert himself in the female world
Ohhhhh my gosh! wow. i fear we have too many furries here too, and that's why they're doing it. but i can't imagine giving anyone up. we have 4 dogs too. : /
all rescues
are they indoor or outdoor cats
only indoor. i don't believe in outdoor/i'd go crazy not knowing where they are at all times
she had to moved where they wouldn't allow animals so we got the mother, father and son and then she moved in with us
one of her cats that we have now is 18 and still going strong
ohhh wow! that's great. what do you feed her
we feed her fancy feast gourmet chicken..the vet recommended something that was awful smelling and she wouldn't eat it so we said forget it
lol. a happy cat is a happy house
she does have trouble with the dry food so I mix it with a little water and call it her 'bowl of cereal'
:)
our other 2 were strays and she hates them
she would like to be an only cat
ahh. we had just the one cat for about 5 yrs. i think she liked the first addition a Little.. and my two newest additions play/cuddle together really well, but the dynamics between the 4 of them are crazy. i think they'd each like to be the only. we're Def not getting any more!
I have a whole slew of them if I could but the vet bills alone would put us in the poor house
my cat years ago, havent had one since died of kidney failure, the vet said due to dry food so the water is a great way to give it
awwww thats sad. hadn't heard that happening. i always add water to their Wet food, which they get every few days.
ahh yes, the vet bills. luckily, a childhood friend of my husband's is our vet, even so, it's put a serious dent in the budget.
that is sad was your cat male or female andree?
we use a vet in Rumford and board them there when we go away
not that sad really, i am not a cat person and she belonged to my daughter and she was old
more fun when you get a kitten to start with
lol andree. i'm def the opposite - i like my pets - trouble they may be - more than most people
haven't had a cat since only dogs and don't have one of those at the moment
HI. Going to add my 2 cents in cat fud with high acidic ph is good., You can get special dry food for cats with cystitis. Had to look it up to do since fur beast peed on floor this am
i cannot wait to get a dog again
I miss our dogs
what kind do you want? or does it matter?
HI
hi herin think your kitty is just getting used to the new place?
i change my mind everytime i see a cute dog, lol
our last was a sweet golden
I am hopping so since the little beast peed on the tiles this morning
hi infernal. yes, i think you've advised me on my cats before. they're all on special food because of the boy cat - he had crystals, and this food clears it up, but since it's a recurring problem for him, easier to just keep them all on it
am renting, will buy a house[ and dog] when my business sells
but we've had mutts too
Nope wasnt me. I was doing research today as i was a tad concerned about kitty. She seems fine now
my last was a spaniel, when i left my husband 5 years ago he got the dog, lol
i'm a lover of mutts/believer of rescues, but i have to say, we have a schnauzer who is Personality Plus! b/c of her, i think we'll Always have at least one schnauzer
we had a springer spaniel named Winston he was such a gentleman the kids would say
Andree you are meant to keep the dog and ditch the husband as a trade off.
lol herin
lol
Its a known fact
schnauzer is on the list also any poodle cross, my favourite dog ever was a springer spaniel i had many years ago
is he a miniature or full size?
si6/27 please
i grew up with poodles - had 3 over the course of my childhood. Wonderful dogs
I knew a couple who divorced and he got the Tupperware
and very good for allergies
God bless the Schnauzers... Hi everyone, I just had to add my two cents worth!
poodles that is not tupperware
Hello everyone
true. schnauzers dont shed either
hi mar
lol marmar - here here!
si6.27 boys name w. sometimes vowel end
I still laugh when I think of your husband and windshield wipers
hi lynxxx and marmar
hi lyn
thx lynxxx
We too West!
HI new people
oh thanks Lynxxx for that si
The strangest argument i heard in a split was how would take the pegs
Hi everyone!
things you hang clothes on?
yes
who won?
me. I took them as that kind of agument was just stupid
that's all you wanted?
LOL herin
Ok i wasn't the ones arguing over them. I was living with a couple
ah so you solved the problem
Lady, I bet you're what my friend would call a "velvet hammer". (that's a mighty compliment!)
yep. I took them it was so ridiculous. Marmar you are not the only one that has said that too me
I could use a little more of that characteristic myself.
I do tend to call a spade a spade
so were they nice pegs? lol
standard issue cheap ones. I think i still have some of them and that was about 10 years ago
Did i make everyone go away//
still here just putting words into the list
i'm still here, deep in grid want to finish early
Lord no Lady, I just got some breakfast...
and thinking what sillies some people are
I am just going to poke them
we8/60 please
you can use a peg herin
lol
we8 sounds like the smallest one
that's the most swamp you can get andree
Andree, think of the smallest little tiny thing you can think of...
no maybe it isn't a swamp more like a growth
thanks marmar
8 left
the swamp word starts with an f
what idiot buys a house that is not building checked before purchase?
not me
I have 89 left...and I'm feeling good about it, what does that say about my standards!?
umm - me 3 times
some houses are sold as is
lol me too mar!
you just got here mar
isn't that required??
Sorry that is silly. Yarra rangers is termite infested so someone bitched to ACA about it instead of research
lenders here won't give a mortgage unless the house is inspected
well West, Marcus and I were on earlier and took a stab at it. Actually, for me, this grid has been generous so far.
THat is a smart idea West
it's not so bad as yesterday's
that seems reasonable, i am sure they don't here either
and a termite inspection is high on the list
I left dreams of "finishing" the grid long ago, but I still love it.
I didn't even do yesterdays grid
Yesterday's was mean.
If i was spending a scat load on a house i would want it to the highest standard
St. Franny, do you chat often? I don't think I ever met you before.
se7/32 please
Franny
Don't ahve it ANdree

G'd morning Babblers!!!! ***averts eyes from little yellow tiles***
OK why is it my heating is on 30 and im freezing?
hiya Lori
HI Lori
either it is not working or you have some problem keeping your body temp up... like too little food, wrong food, too little excercise, too little energy
Hi Lori P--I was thinking of you last night. My Yankee magazine always has ads for travel to Nova Scotia. Some of the pics are breathtaking.
hi Lori
The coastal drive, aside from the poor quality of the alleged pavement, is gorgeous Scrabbler.
Haha, "zennia" is not an alternative spelling for zinnia, so don't try it.
I love Novia Scotia, been 3 times to Halifax and had a ball
How's the grid? ***still averting eyes from little yellow tiles***
Yes, Lori, there were amazing hills and cliffs along the water.
Maybe I will get to NS someday, and see all of the maritime provinces.
I am finding the grid difficult.
The Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton (worst roads in the world), the South Shore, and of course Halifax for variety, all beautiful.
hey lori and bluemonkey!
Glad you enjoyed yourself blue, best way to see NS is to ignore travel brochures, and just drive secondary roads. Avoid the 101, and 103 highway, and meander along at your own pace.
bbl
Hello Lori - the words are not so backward about coming forward as yesterday.
Difficult grid? ***purple crayons out all 25 yellow tiles***
Later sprite! G'd morning Haz
Later Sprite
bye bye Sprite
Good morning/evening all.

Hello Liz

Give it to me, I just want a borrow!!
G'd morning carlee, I walked away to put on coffee. ***still ignoring grid***
oh oh...do we need a mess of purple crayons?
Yesterday's wasn't impossible or anything, but it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. Uni mumbled and grumbled and sipped at the grid all day, and in to the evening.
there we go..purple crayons to pass around
i totally gave up on yesterday's I just don't have enoug time until middle of next week to muck about with anything other then a gun grid
YAHHHH

Hello Scrabbler.
VERY funny, Haz. Hi Lori.
I remember the last time we faced drought conditions here. 1976 - the year of the standpipes.
evening all :)
This Spring it's almost a fond memory , isn't it!!
Hello mrpresident
***braving the perils, dives half heartedly in to grid***
True, Liz. Some day it'll be like that again.
One can get quite sentimental about standpipes in this climate. Hi MrP
hi haz. good to see you
hi lizmac :)
this doesn't look too hard... or am I dreaming?
It's mostly okay, mrpresident.
hi Mrp :)
Another boogaloo down broadway grid

hey everyone
hey lickety
My daughter got given a maths in practice question which has me completely stumped.
GM all
Anyone up for a challenge? If so - email me the answer.
jhey lickety
HI kje
***bows in homage to Lickety, the creator of THE List! :-)*** G'd morning
Here is the question :
?
N is the 5-digit number 8A65B in which A and B are digits, and N is divisible by 24. What is the smallest number N can be? Explain your answer in detail.
huh
huh
Okay, that's math. This tiny brain does not process math........ :-)
I failed basic math so don't look at me im am math disabled
sorry, math gives me hives
LOL faulds. Yes, I too have an allergic reaction to math.
N 6?
sorry 4
well you going to tell?
45mins on it here. I know what the answer is - the internet told me - but I don't know how to GET to the answer
what is the answer?
pulling out piece of paper...
oh tell
can someone explain to me what is wrong with my cats brain?
hello?>
hi again
cats are ...insane...but loveable
starting to think its me
A must be as low as possible, the sum of the digits must be a factor of 3, and B must be even. Start with A = 0, and go up from there.
WOW Viox
25 left no list
Vioxx - I worked it out
tell
You are right - but there is another trick to use - To be a multiple of 3 - all the numbers have to add up to a multiple of 3
I'll post the solution so you can see it
oh yer
what may i ask are the 2 ofyou talking about?....
here is my solution :
http://tinyurl.com/3ge4ud

I failed basic math and i don't even know most of my times tables. I am a maths idiot english rocks though
*breaking out into a cold sweat*
I fell asleep in science when we were taught '
how CO2 and that kinda thing came about
to me math went from thsi 2 d limited thing...to a HUGE world...i HATED chem..but physics and bio rocked
Ok im going to go lick a window now
hahaha... ok herin...

I wasn't lurking : ) I'm packing for a trip and walking by the computer to enter words when I see them - kinda fooling myself that I'm not REALLY playing games when I have other things to do
KJE where you going?
DC
No, I meant the dwarves themselve were looking. What would I know about today's REAL patterns? I just got here.
American Geriatrics Society conference - work stuff, may be why I'm not exactly excited

hubby ADORES Sting, and Sting couldn't have been nicer. We just walked by and elbowed each other when we saw R.C - not fans either
Dang, sounds like Walter won't nap well.... It's Queen's Day and we'll have to hit the streets again when he gets up so I was hoping for a decent nap today. Oh well. There's still hope.
this was in December and we're STILL on cloud 9!
Aesome

no fun if he doesn't do back : )
are you kidding? I'm only 30 in and ready to open the grid. I want to know what Carlee's secret was that got the words to show up for her!
Hugh Laurie just cracks me up. I enjoyed watching him for years as a foppish, mincing character in Black Adder, and as a stand-up British comedian and in A Bit of Fry and Laurie.... And then he pops up as Dr. House. Weirdest thing I ever saw.
mind altering drugs?
oooh, I got a 7 all by myself!!!

Morning EvaN :)
Thank you! Good afternoon FMitch.
**slaps haz and administers smelling salts**
I love the British/American spelling confusion...although I don't enjoy when people tell me I spell things wrong when I use the British way...schools in Canada teach American spellings for some reason and I always refused to do it that way.
Kind of ready with the slapping, lexie?
Round of applause for Uniquity, defender of spelling the proper way.
Good girl Uni!
it was always confusing growing up in the US in US schools with english parents... none of us knew how to spell anything!
Well, I'm sure I spell some things American without noticing, but largely, I use British. Microsoft word HATES that.
working at HS DUH!! Slap anyone in cyberspace so as not to do it actually
*sigh* phone
Double sigh if it's someone wanting to sell you something.
[client] bbl
good morning everybody
Morning, one and all!
Good morning Snaron and BzznBea.
Someone tell me the grid is easier today.
The grid is easier today.
LOL! Thanks, Haz.
It certainly hasn't caused as many complaints as yesterday's did.;
interesting - I didn't think yesterday's was too bad until the end - this one, I'm having more trouble with - people are so different : )
phantom - nemesis
how can there be 92 words left in this thing?
I'm with you sharon
Today's grid has more words that have appeared before. Yesterday was a 'how do you do?' session for lots of new words.
I keep seeing more phantoms than real words - maybe I'm living in some alternative universe today : )
I got all the z's all by myself nannie nannie nannie - *smiles - like a silly fool*
kje - we can play my favorite - let's find the phantoms game
Good for you, Lex.
my nemeses are always words that start with vowels - my brain just doesn't see them as easily for some reason
phantom - zest
i keep seeing mimic
and gnome
me too!!!
phantom - zilch
phantom - metes
phantom - sentiment
none of my phantoms are that big
phantom - citizen
did all the y's alone (need music symbols for my singing)
oooo good one Bzzzz
it won't take sitz - but we order sitz baths for patients all the time
proper noun i believe
*playing music*
I believe so, sharon.
BBL (it won't take that either BTW - LOL)

Just as a surgeon was finishing up an operation the patient wakes up, sits up and demands to know what is going on. "I'm about to close," the surgeon says. The patient grabs his hand and says, "Oh, no you're not! I'll close my own incision." The doctor hands him the needle and says, "Suture self."

pretty bout wouldnt wanna live there
Cripe...kids are home from school... bbl
k
see you k21
me either, i'm much more fond of my country living
I am also eva
even if it means i have to live with the squirrels
we got my father a squirrel flipper as a gift several years ago. he gets great enjpyment from watching the squirrels fly across the yard
i've seen the twirlers, but i never heard of the flippers?
it is a bird feeder that is weight sensitive. it will support a birds weight but when a squirrel steps on it, it spins around and flips them off.... is that the same as the twirler? my family calls it the flipper
yeah, its called 'twirl a squirrel'
my dad may have torqued up the mechanism a tad, the squirrels really get quite a boost 8)
we should induct him into GREST (get rid of evil squirrels today)
i am sure he would be honored to accept the invitation. does he get to wear a funny hat?
yeah, but he'll have to make his own cause we don't have an official funny hat...maybe a pope hat with a squirrel tail attached?
oooh, i like that, he will too, he's short so that mitre thingy will add inches, and the tail will add just a soupcon of elegance
he's an ex-hunter so he has no problem with fur
i've no problem with the fur so long as its a squirrels
or one of the ground hogs they recruited
THEY ARE FORMING UNIONS NOW???!!!???
no, they are plotting to take over the world, so far we know they've recruited chipmunks as foot men and the other day my car was attacked by a ground hog...i guess they're the muscle
i see. big but dumb
yeah, basically
we have a family of groundhogs that lives under our deck. we keep blocking their entrance, they keep unblocking it
the squirrels have their own military hierarchy, seargents, lieutenants, majors, generals
generally, if you want rid of a ground hog, you have to kill it
hi again, I have about 25 mins to bang out a few....48 to go
my husband has an ongoing argument with a particular squirrel it basically yells back at him when he tries to chase it out our garden
hi asgreen
the chipmunk army lives in my backyard. Two summers ago I killed 13 of 'em heh heh heh - now they are back in force - hubby says we've lost the battle
and the two robins are still banging on my window (it's been 2 weeks now)
that battle is not over!!!
GREST is on the move
are they trying to get in or are they flying into window cause its too clean?
um, it's so not clean!!
that is my excuse- birds will fly into them
birds trying to get into the house are usually associated with death...sorry

hey-all,just stopping in for a few befor dinner...:-}

se6/7 combo?
aww, that's not good...I'll try not to believe your friend

good for you sprite ... enjoy.
47 left, bbs
hurry back, Peri
heya all! :)
bfn peri, hi kristin!
{{Kristin}} hello
hi all
Hi Milly24
hi milly
hi kristin and milly.
hi sprite, haven't seen you a bit (but reading back a bit, I can see why!)
hello ((mom))
your little break at home sounds lovely Sprite
hi there mo...what cuties in your icon
it is :) they'll be back home tomorrow, but we had a lovely 2 days. How are you doing, kristin?
ty kristin.
fairly well sprite...I am frantically baby-proofing my house in my "spare" time. This year has blown by and the crawling days are not far away I think. :)
wonderful kristin. My prayers go with you, may all go well and wonderful for you.
kristin .. he looks such an angel ... you are so lucky.
crawling is a wonderful phase... though lots of exercise for the parents, lol.
thanks sprite, this year has been quite the improvement over the last couple! :). We appreciate your prayers.
you were due a couple of blessings, weren't you ;)
He's a fantasic baby mo. Other than that he still prefers to nap in my arms, I don't think I would change a thing about him. I guess I should just get a bigger lap no?
thanks sprite...I would imagine so! :)
in a little while you can let him lie beside you while you cradle just his head :)
sprite...what is the weather like for camping now? If you camped here in May, you would likely be a soggy mess.
you sound so happy ... that is good.
shh...don't tell him that sprite (he is actually in his crib today). He'd take me up on it! :)
we have had a couple of days with lots of sun, some wind and a few rains. Not too bad.
*is not telling*
That's good. You're warm and dry at least.
lol, I was sprawled out on the couch watching Angel and chatting up with my friend. I was warm and dry and darn comfy.
what ages are your kids sprite?
10 and almost 12, kristin
Aha, so you really do never have time just to sit and sprawl.
Does anyone have the first li5? I fear fish.
never. Except when my love bestows a couple of kidfree and hubbyfree days on me :)
I d o not Kristin, sorry
no fish, it is a bit of a weirdo. li + first 3 letters of town
no worries mom.
thanks sprite.
li5 ... li + New York ***y.
thanks Sprite and Mo
what is for dinner mom? (I always like inspriration this time of day)
and fireworks
congrats Sprite
meatloaf
well done Sprite!
congratulations sprite.
it is actually called mini-cheddar loaves
we had mie. Lovely, with chicken and onions
but it is meatloaf with cheddar cheese mixed in and made into individual loaves instead of the big loaf
that sounds delicious Sprite
hmm...we haven't had that in a long time and it is one of Shawn's favorites. And anything involving cheese is a surefire winner.
i have never has meatloaf
*had
would you like the recipe, Kristinc?
that sounds great mom, i love anything with cheese in.
is it as great as everyone says?
this is wonderful, Shoeless
Updated my profile and icon :-)
sounds lovely! I must be off, alas. Have a great time babbling all of you and *hugs*!
Hello peps I am in Maine on our anniversary WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Shorty. Happy Anniversary
hi shorty.
yes, Kristinc I would love to have that recipe. Guten tag, babblers
is it easy to make?
lovely picture, Katie
HI Inge
Happy Anniversary Shorty!
it is very easy Shoeless
hi inge.
Inge...it is mom with the recipe, she was giving me the rundown on it though.
and hi inge too! :)
oops, it is mom who has that reciope. I want it . My email is in my bio
I will put it on my profile page .... as soon as I eat it. The timer is going off
congrats on your anniversary shorty
Inge, I will send it off to you in just a bit
enjoy mom!
be back soon
thanks Kristin
thanks (27 yrs) phew thats aloooooong time
good, Mom, I will get it there
Friend of mine who just turned 69 found the hospital bill when he was born in a MA hospital. The total for 13 days, phone calls, tests, delivery room etc. etc. came to a mere $136.50. No wonder people had more kids then
wow! no kidding inge. I pay more than that in co-pays alone in a month's time.
wow inge thats incredible!!!!!!!!!
You know it never occured to me that you needed to pay to have a baby! God bless the NHS :-)
I was born free!!!!
i have to agree
ving the nhs
LOL - I'm having outpatient surgery in July that will cost more than $10,000!!
*loving the nhs
oh yes, it was $2,500 to have Zach last year and that is only because that is what my insurance caps at annually. The bill was over $35,000 for 2 days.
I had a ci** removed last week for a mere $420. Medicare pays most of it though
yes, we complain about the NHS, but we dontrealise how lucky we are!
I love that Inge, a "mere"
$35,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yikes cad!
wow
how can you afford to be ill?
i am sorry guys, but have just decided to never move to america.
We literally have to budget $2500 (it would be 6,000 for the whole family) each year and just a assume we will reach what they call, our "out of pocket" maximum. Once we reach that, we don't get billed anymore except a co-pay for each visit. It is really tricky for us to have that much cash each year to pay upfront. We feel like we are treading water a lot.
Yes shoeless, my brother lives in Denmark. He is very happy w/ the medical care (and costs) there.
that must be a big worry kristin.
On that happy note I will start supper: Weisswurst, baked potato and steamed vegetable. *poof*
It is a bit mo. Thankfully, we make enough that if we live carefully and budget, we do okay. There are others who are not so lucky and it is them I worry about more.
bye inge .. enjoy.
I should say $10,000 cost - my portion will not be that much. I will be out of pocket a bit over $1000 for it.
Have fun inge! Sorry to drag everyone down. Can you tell I just paid my taxes and have all these numbers still fresh?
I am waiting until July so that I can put $$ into flexible spending - then use that to pay when I get billed. That way - it comes out of my paycheck tax free and is spread over 12 months!
That is really smart Cad.
advice time - our cats have now brought two fish out of next door's pond - how do we broach the subject with them?
No choice really - can't afford it otherwise! We got killed o ntaxes this year - did you know you don't get a credit for a child once they turn 17 - regardless of whether or not they are still i nHigh School!
And - the economic stimulus... no credit for a 17 year old - but we do still get credit for the 13 year old....
really? I thought my parents claimed me even through my college years?
You can claim them - and get a standard deduction - but there is a credit in additio to that which you cannot take once they turn 17.
ooh..Katie. I have no idea other than to bake a really tasty cake as a peace offering.
Katie - you men the neighbor hasn't noticed?!?!?
are they plain goldfish or koi carps?
aha...you also know the stimulus checks are simply a rebate on what you might get back next year. Since we're self-employed, we just have to keep ours in saving (or we'll just owe more next time).
Yes I know... we are simply paying debt with ours.
can anyone help with the si 6/27 please?
Thank goodness they are normal goldfish, the neighbours haven't noticed yet but at the rate they are fishing it won't be long!
si 6/27 - like the crabby guy on American Idol (ends with sometimes idol)
Cad...I think it is interesting that they don't really advertise the checks that way however. I feel like there are a lot of folks who won't know that and thus spend money they don't really have.
aha, thanks
I shouldt worry ... they might think that the herons have had them.
I mean ends with sometimes vowel.....
Oh I guarantee most people have NO idea that is how it's working!
maybe you could them you have seen you cat take an interest in their pond and suggest they may be wise to put over a mesh
and if its a big pond I am sure they wont miss them.
Time to head for home - might log on from there for my last 37.... cheers everyone!
By the time we get back from honeymoon their pond could be empty! Rubarb caught her first bird yesterday so Mari may have a massacre on her hands :-(
cheers Cad, see you later!
Bye cad :-)
maybe you just need to secretly stock the pond Katie (and have someone do it for you while you are gone! :))
I'm afraid cats will be cats, there is not much you can do .... dont let it spoil your honeymoon.
That might be a good idea Kristin :-)
the one doing the fishing and bird catching is the smallest and the one who looks the most innocent, you can never tell which one will turn out the be the hunter.
We have a policy of letting them out all the time with a cat flap, as you say mo cats will be cats
Hey y'all - speaking of birds - can anyone explain why the plural form of a certain Hawaaian goose isn't allowed on here? is it like deer?
Our cat by the way is an inveterate hunter. No rats anywhere for at least a mile
Lol, we have had a couple of rats but that was because Rhubarb pulled an admirer who delivered them outside the catflap for her as presents.
lol.
hope they were dead!!!
If a cat catches a rat, they're usually... ummm... more than dead. At least ours are. Headless...
Thankfully yes, however H2B did bring one in to show me the size of the 'mouse', he did understand after much screaming that mice don't grow that si**.
aren't men wonderful!!!!
Yes, they think they're bringing you a present!!
okay, my last word in the it7. I can see what is starts with obviously but I can't monkey it for the life of me. Any help would be lovely.
Noooooooo, a headless rat would be awful to find in your kitchen, you have my sympathy :-)
Just popping in for a minute ... the meat loaf recipe is posted in my profile. I will be back as soon as the dishes are washed.
thanks mom!
If you write a list of it*** you it***** them

Dock is in, boats are the water, jet skis go in this week.
gee, makes one want to hop in the car and go east
We even caught some speckled trout, they were up in the shallow water, because the lake is cold. Great eating and lots of fun for everyone
sounds cold, bubba... are you sure you're ready for jet skis?
lovely story, Stid. Thanks for the link
Not me!!, but he kids love to use them. I see no reason to go fast one way, then turn around and go fast the other way.
yw mom
can you give me a clue to a word
Our son, now age 43, would never get in the boat unless we were going Somewhere
no a clue to a word
what letter do you want the word to start with lahlah? and have you read the "help" section for this game?
I can understand that, just to burn gas seems like a waste of time.
just a small hit or so
but he was only 4 years old and getting older
I used to love to go canoeing, though... it was fun to just be out on the water in the quiet
the is a four-letter L word. second letter is i and it's a type of fruit with a green rind.
We used to stasy home on weekends when the New Yorkers were on the lake, hehe
ok can we stop talking about the LAKE!!!
Canoeing is a different thing entirely, went to Ely Minnesota, great canoeing, probably the best in the country
ah, Stid. The patience of a Saint.
and that will be the last clue lahlah, until you can be polite. The chat log is for CHATs as much as cluing.
i will give you a really good word
*very pointedly putting up orange alert*

carpe diem, se*** the day

on the sea or on the land . . .
of course it is a puzzle, i didn't mean it like that... :)
he's got the situation well in haaaaand!!
hi, min - so no one remembers Rootie Kazootie - well before your time, I guess - how about Winky Dink? We ordered a plastic screen that adhered to the TV screen and you could write on it with crayons as Winky Dink told you to circle this, mark an X on that
Great icon Aussieme! You didn't have to, but thanks!
LOVED Winky Dink!!
yes - thanks min and everyone and mighty mouse - now off to the PB with TV and a young child who needs a mom
i hate the US 'se6' word
it was like tracing through the screen!
I remember winky dink... can't remember rootie...
both are familiar, but i don't think i recall
My fondest childhood memories are of reading The Hobbit when I was 8. Watching a kids programme called Star Fleet **puppet show with a sci-fi theme**
yes, une, it was a TV innovation of the time - we thought it was great fun
Sorry JBV,don't remember those. Was before my time
my fondest memories were of reading books . . . and it was heaven to visit my great aunt who had a children's bookstore
cecil and beany
getting up early in the summer hlidays and going to a big park all day **walking there, playing all day and walking home again**, bath and bed ...
i liked The Electric Company a lot. and Romper Room.
square one is a good memory for me
*holidays
any day I wasn't home was a good day when i was a child...
and i lived for Soul Train as a youngin
watched Electric Company with my daughter--wonderful!!
dancing round the luonge with my Grandpa, standing on his feet and Ballroom Dancing...
yes, dc!!!!
that was HS for me, pam
*lounge even
aaawww, aussieme . . .
i want enzyme
my childhood was a lot like Joan Crawford's children, so when people get all warm and fuzzy about childhood, I like to remind them to be grateful, because some children are just happy to have survived
sorry HS was like that for you, dcs...
Une, the bookstore must have been a treat - I also got most of my children's books from an aunt who knew just what to recommend
{{{{{{pam}}}}}}}}
indeed so, pam, though my circumstances differed from yours, gratefully.
the only glitch was that she was a southern belle and refused to carry Nancy Drew because it was "trash" . . . LOL--I bought them for myself!!
no need for the hugs, aussie, just believe a child who tells you they are in pain, and get them some help....
LOLOL, une...
i had, and have, a full collection of Hardy Boys, and my sister of Nancy Drews
Another memory is working for my grandmother one summer in Minnesota. I worked in her jelly kitchen. I made a lot of jamd and jelly. She made jams and jellies and dilled beans. My sister and I would work like half a day or so & then spend the rest of the day playing practical jokes with my uncle & swimming in the lake and water skiing & playing tennis on her huge estate
it's great you still have them, dcs!
i enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie books.
sounds lovely, minver. :)
I waited outside Ensor's in my hometown for the door to open on the day a new Nancy Drew was available . . . with my $1.03 in hand!
I liked Beverly Cleary, pippi, and Treasure Island
and pam, my friends find them campy at this point *shrug* :D
It does sound lovely, min!
minver, that sounds amazing
i like The Westing Game, and The Mysterious Disapperance of Leon, I Mean Noel both very much.
LOLOLOL, dcs. Camp is good... very good....
pam, here is something I can share with you **it has taken me alot of years to be able to talk**. My younger Sister was repeatedly raped by our Step-Father when she was four years old. She told me. I was 8 years of age. I was the one to tell my Mom.
indeed so, pam :D
ohmygod . . .
Good for you, aussie. But I am terribly sorry, aussie.
Summers at my Grandmother's hosue beats any camp
ah, aussie, i've a friend who still has trouble sleeping because of her grandfather, and that ended 30 years ago. :/
So, I believe someone when they say they are hurting.
My uncle incested my cousin for years.... no one knew...
So, pam, {{pam}} hugs are in order from me.
(((((((aussie)))))))
My Sister's insides are so ruined, she cannt have children
My cousin's, too, aussie
how horrible . . .
horrible, ausise
relatedly, did any of you read about the woman in Austria?
I didn't mean to be a downer, or righteous, but sometimes, I just need to put it out there
Just catching up on chat did any one else read the Trixie Beldon series or the Bobsey t
I dont know how she copes. She is 30 this year, and she has only these past few years stopped wetting the bed from it
TWins
i did, ugh
these are terrible stories and pam is right we must be aware of the children who may be experiencing the same or worse today - I work with children and families whose lives are sad and tragic in many ways and who have little happiness on a regular basis
Hi MaMaWa! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
yes mamawa, i loved both of those series
How horrifying, aussie
yes, I did seain.... Disgusting !
hello, mamawa
indeed, i saw it while reading the paper at lunch; right near put me off my food.
Hi Min , Hurs , dc , pam and alll
that Austrian beast...
hi, mAmA
Aussie too
i can't believe there were 18, 19 year old kids who'd never even seen the sun. it's amazing they survived.
pam, no downer..... you are right to put it out there.... We have to be vigilant at all times.
hey MaMaWA !!
indeed hurshy :/
I know hursh !
that story is so oo, I cant even put an adjective or any other word to it
those children and their mom need the BEST, I mean the STockholm best...
just terrible
ok, I am sooo tired now.... Finished work at midnight my time, ten hour shift, so am off to my beddy byes now. Sweet dreams Babble Family, and hugs to you all xxxxxxxxx
{{{{{{BABBLE FAMILY}}}}}}}}}

Gute Nacht, Aussie
nite, aussie
n'abend, inge, how goes?
Goodbye Aussieme! I will see you tomorrow in the log!
hi, inge!
well, I have been lurking for some time. And comparing my childhood in Germany as a US citizen
hi, lind
hi pam
hi everyone
Hello lindrickway! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Hi Lind
hm. interesting, inge, i hope it balanced well
hey, lindrick :-)
hi min
hello, lindrick :)
hi inge
hi dc
hi une
sometimes the chat goes too fast for me , I was commenting on fav child hood books , and did not realize the subject matter had changed :(
inge, I remember your story about the cigarette butts - that was very interesting to me
i met some people the other day who didn't know about candy cigarretts.
was that in the 40's - after the war or during?
well, we were receiving UNRRA packages and free meals from the municipality, but never felt poor or deprived
chat's like that sometimes, mamawa :)
I remember candy cigarettes.Do they still sell them?I hope not. I never did like them. They are a bad idea!
yes, you can still get them
I think I liked them, min....
Yes for sure dc , I remember candy cigs
no, minver, they're not marketed any more to my knowledge. They came in boxes that looked like Lucky Strikes, at least around here.
i liked them.
and if you blew out they puffed
you can get them online
Well, things got real bad 1945-47. Black market was the only way to get anything.
neither me nor my sister smokes, despite mom smoking.
little white sticks with pink/red ends
you could also send a kid to the corner story to buy real cigarettes, as my father used to do - nobody raised an eyebrow
that was true when i was young too, mom would send me to the store.
of cours this state only outlawed smoking in all schools, including primary, in 1988
oh MaMa the english ones weren't so posh, they didn't puff or anything!!
Exactly, before the gov took over all of yor business including rasing your kids
me, too.. Raleighs... or whatever was the green book...
here's one of several sites where you can still get them: http://tinyurl.com/ytuafm
that was *store* of course
Yes, those are the ones I remember. I am sure they tasted good, but I don't like the idea behind them. It promotes smoking which I hate! They should stick to candy necklaces.Anyone remember candy necklaces?
I am the only one that didn't ever smoke in much of my family... makes me sick, literally
mine didn't puff . . . just pretend
Lind it was just the powder/chalkiness of them if you blew
you can still get the candy necklaces in the UK min!!
Not real
candy necklaces are sold here still, too.
I do remember candy necklaces, on elastic strings, right?
oh ok MaMa, you couldn't even do that with english ones!!
yes inge :)
yes inge you can still get those in the UK
our candy cigs puffed sugar, too.
funny how people can go either way - some children of smokers pick up the habit, in my family my father's smoking immunized all 3 of us children never to pick up a cigarette at all - none of us ever smoked
what's the 8 start with?
i need help with me5/12s please; both.
I shingled the roofs of my gingerbread houses with Necco wafers for many years
my mother and both brothers smoke, or smoked, as did both their parents for most of their lives.
first me 5/12 is plural of me 4/6 (an office note)
we
always fun that, inge.
I am surprised they didn't stop making them because of the string. Kids can choke on that.Kids can choke on any candy for that matter.Loved candy necklaces
we
most swampy
hi BR
second me 5/12 is a science word, but also a Spanish bar where you can get tapas
i used to get warm necco wafers of the conveyer when i worked at MIT
me 5: me + male offspring
and my parents didn't smoke, and i believed them and all the other adults who told me it was bad for you, and i didn't do it either...
me5: notes, me + not daughter
hello, babrab, was that a clue for me?
yum--the licorice ones, dcs...
ty, ne
no
Isnt it amazing how soo many generations of kids lived without all the legislation?? lool
une
hi, babbler
Hello BabbleRabble! How are you? Welcome to the grid
oh, good. nice to see you babrab
is it illegal to drink in bars in the US?
lol
oh i meant smoke!! doh
depends how old you are
or, no, should it be, lindrick LOL
the other me 5: me + ***the season to be jolly
oy. ty, inge
what does the 8 start with?
so far the smoking is up to states and lower gov
we Hursh
w
we 8
thanks
i told you and clued it
in all 4 states here tobacco is now 18, and alcohol 21
rhymes with the shoes
BR! howdy!
so it is in some and not others then MaMa?
dc? 4 states
howDy
we 8/60 sounds like the most of one of the question words JBV.
tobacco is still very cheap here in VA comparatively, almost half what they charge in DC and MD
yes, dc, md, va, wv
don't see it, babbler and hursh
oh sorry, i missed it!
her in Ontario no one can smoke in any public building or pub and they are trying to ban it from the streets too
we count dc as a state
thanks, min, i wasn't asking tho, just answering hursh's question
*here
i find the streets excessive
very hard to police too!!
Yes I spent the day in a large hospita;l with my Mom and brother, he still smokes and we had to walk in the streets "off the premises"
our public drinking law here in VA is rareyl enforced - it's illegal to drink alcohol w/in view of a public road
me, too, dcs, except that when I walk by a place where someone smoked recently, I choke up. I am highty sensitive and stop breathing if I am around too much...
true of hospital zones here, too mam wa
yes, pam, i know several who are like that. and as smoking is less allowed, i find myself more sensitive
same here, dc, and I used to smoke
babrab - you said swampy, but I think that we word means something else - related to a skin condition
it is illegal here to carry an already opened bottle of alcohol in the street or car or public transport!
I gave a clue and not a definition
that's silly, from my POV, lindrick, though i see the reasoning behind it.
Yes the signs used to say no smoking and everyone who smoked went outside but now , they cant even do it there
oh? must have misread it, then
i found it very strange coming from the UK to here and all the different laws dc
i remember my mother being tiest in, oh 78 or 79, when they outlawed smoking in service lines at places that did not sell food. after that, drug stores started carrying food items too.
different from britain, or different from each other here, lindrick, or both?
testy, not tiest
why places that did NOT sell food? that seems weird
gee, dc, I thought we had a new word thre
in the uk you can drink in the street if you wish to dc here you can't even carry it!!
banks, drugstores, clothing stores, but not grocery stores, butchers and the like. don't know why it was that way, but it was.
lol inge :D
also different age limits too
As far as i know the smoke bans are still state and locally mandated, but in us 21 is legal drinking age
it used to vary more here, lindrick. used te be here in VA no lower limit on age of purchase of beer and wine, but could not consume legally below 18. liquor was 18 then too.
it is 19 in Ontario and 18 in the UK mama
the grid doesn't know about sprite :(
21 onyl because fed highway funds are tied to that. :/
oh, hurshy?
LOL hurshy
CT drinking age limit used to be 21, and NY stae was 18. So we drove across the border to Brewster
1st li5, pls?
so what age can you marry there dc?
LOL inge
it doesn't allow limon, i mean
li5 lawful
anyone have a clue for the TE 7? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
last i checked, 18, or 16 with parental permission, though may be different today.
li 5 - legal
change the second vowel, Hurshy
une, you're so fast!
hi phan
in kentucky, one could drive at 14.
hi Lindrick
I remember 18 drinking being legal when there was stil 3.2beer but when they did away with that all drinking age was raised to 21 and that was bakc in the 80's , I think
oh, thanks inge!
Celtics up by 15...
i find it pretty hilarious you can marry at 16, have kids and not be allowed to drink!!!
te 7 - rhymes with one-cent coins
up by 14
legal ?
hm
up by 13
legal, lawful, legitimate
thnx, JBV
une said lawful, I said legal
15
ty, for legal :)
Parental permission is now grounds for parents to be arrested
Time for the news and bed. Gute Nacht, BAbbler family. It was really very nice here tonight.
well TX is its own special nightmare. sigh
I married at 17, had my first child at 17, couldn't have my name on our first house deeds cos I was 17 and couldn't drink!! so freaky!!
*poof*
rest well, inge, nice to have seen you.
night inge
I worked i service industry for almost 20 yrs and back in the day dad could order son a beer but not any more with all the liability
yes, TX is its own nightmare.... well put, dcs
i had wine in restaurants all the time growing up, if diluted when young.
hi and greetings from TX
LOL, ping
hell, ping :)
hi ping
no insult at individual txans intended
now now seain!
none here, either... just the shrub family (thanks to molly ivins)
dc the first word i saw in the grid was your name!!
i'm from arkansas, actually
I find it ironic that you have to have a license to be married, old enough to vote, drive a car , serve your country, but any one, can just have kids randomly
i noticed it ony when monkeying for SEs LOL
LOL dc
lol, mama
never voted for shrub myself - have had many ops too
oh, sad, byebye brooke
hi lindrick and pam and mamawa
idol, hursh?
yep
hi hurshy

hi k21
ty, lindrick
welcome k21
yw dc
hi k21
hello, k21
don't understand, lind...
evening everyone
hello, dan!
hi dan
in 6 - usually spelled with a double consonant - in + place to make moonshine?
can i get the letter count & points for the top row i?
hi, dan
in + make bourboun, pam
idol pam!!
hi dan
ic6/21
thanks, dcs and jbv
ooo good clue JBV :)

oh puh-LEASE

that is one i like, pam, of many
oh, that was for dan2bit, pam
thanks dcs I was just skating earlier, actually
en7, however, i would welcome a clue for.
oh, LOL, dcs...
i've not done that but once 21 years ago, dan, more power to you
ic 6 - most cold
en 7 not your friends?
en 7 - foes
it's bad when tired and i babble, thanks mamawa and jbv
anyone know why roller skating never hurts my feet, but ice skating always does (my arches, not my ankles)?
I had not for decades, but I am taking adult lessons, determined to learn to skate better
Because your feet/arches are not on a broad surface
hursh, maybe it's because on roller skates your feet are flat and on ice skates you have to grip to stay balanced?
several people i know are taking adult ice skating lately. interesting.
lacing the skates enough matters too, hurshy
I love ice skating
you distribute your weight differently
what about rollerblades? they didn't hurt either...
i wear thick socks with my ice skates hurshy, that might help!
good fitting skates, tightly laced, and not scrunching toes (which I do unconsciously a lot)
same concept, rollers are broader, and it depends on you r bindings and boots
yes, scrunching toes s- that's what I was trying to say, you said it better dan
firewords, and i must sleep, as i work at 6AM
