a girlfriend of mine came to me in tears... her daughter is 14 and has been receiving text messages/images from a boy... he has been sending her images of his penis. She has kept this from her parents and they accidentally found out about it. They are at a loss as to what to do. The boy is 16 and she says she doesn't know him. They have also found out that she is drinking alcohol (via her texts) and this has been going on for 3-4 weeks

They need to talk to her honestly to her or have someone she trusts talk to her.
And it was only that their daughter left her mobile phone at home, and the text came thru, they looked at it and were shocked

As a teenager...I'm gonna go ahead and say what is likely the truth. She knows the boy, that's nearly a guarantee. She might not be having sex with him, but maybe entertaining the idea. She is doing these things cuz it is easy to get away with. There is likely more, and they will know only if they seriously confront this issue.

MrP, in my experience with my friends who were "restricted" on knowedge/chances to understand drinking, sex, etc...they go crazy as soon as they get a chance. I don't know the full family situation, obviously, but it is tremendously easy to do a remarkable amount of bad things without parents knowledge, especially if they are allowing her to be out with her friends al the time as you said down below. Always, in my opinion though, I don't intend to offend.

I totally respected myself, but had a few relationships that were 'casual', but that was cause I wanted to. But that was all when I was older... and I never ever got a penis dossier!
I don't believe in needing alcohol to have a good time. When someone argues they can have a god time anyway, I ask them why they didn't jsut do that and save themselves a tonne of money.
I was pretty much a binge drinker from 21 to 25 every friday night to deal with stuff but i don't think i disgraced my self.
I think that peer pressure is such a big issue now days!! She was probably keeping this pictures to impress her friends. Though lord knows at that age I would have freaked out.
I think accepting that things are different now is part of what can help, but it's very very difficult to get a 14 yr old to listen to a parental figure. I've had some good luck talking to kids in the ER because i tell them I dont have any kids, and I look pretty young...but its hard, they do have this idea that they know it all, and that they are invincible.

So babble just ate my really long post. Lag is killing me here. Umm, the main thing was that I realized that other people's parents have way less standards than my own and will often let children do ANYTHING. They also like to let boys and girls hang out alone at young ages. Bad idea. I had to have my door open til I was like 18 (prolly shoulda been older, but i've been in the same relationship since I was 16, so..)
I love that my daughter does ballet and netball and loves school work... I want to keep her a kid for as long as possible... but friends are a big influence
I think things like guides and sports really help, develop other broader interests, and also confidence. if i didn't have sports, even today, what would i Do!
MrP, not if she has good friends. I was always the "straight edge" one of the group. I kept them good..
since I keep my daughter involved with the charity dinner she has become good friends with some muslim girls....1/2 of whom are already veiled...so..that keeping her "centred" too
Kids need to learn that just because you have been friends with someone since you were two does not mean you have to act like them at 14, 16, 18. People change. I know parents say not to abandon your friends, but sometimes you have to.
carlee, we also were a very active family, but the kids still want time with their friends. We were a very big outdoor sports family. I always prefered having my childrens friends over to our home rather than having my children go out.
And actually, my sister and I were bad teenagers, really, but my parents had always modeled good behavior at home, and as adults we have both essentially got it together. So even after being bad, we came out good...

My way of doing grids never changes --- one by one by one until all done

not a vet - but my system is find as many as I can - just looking - then print out the list - and start with singles - like only 1 ei in this puzzle/grid and on to the two of a kind - and then sections as I can....
the only "trick" i have is try to get all the rhymes i can when i get a word.
