Nice size grid again..

really off to bed this time, poof
Night Jill
G'd night flosey - sleep well..
night flosey, hi all
hi Sprite
howdy
Hi spirte :)
nice size today. And nice first words :) Started with a nice drink and something good to eat.
How are you Sprite?
seriously stressed out. Lots of sadness about the thing with my father and yesterday my hubby told me he wants us to move to a boat. Living ship. Don't know the word. We are going to make an appointment to look at it today.
Oh Sprite, thats a lot on your plate. Houseboat is probably the word you are looking for, don't knw how that would work out with the kids - ??. Did you make contact w. your father after the photos arrived (aside from your letter) or are you still mulling over it?
Sprite i don't know what happened yesturday its ok no need to rehash. Take care
only the letter, lynxxx, which is all I am prepared to do. His letter showed he is still the same manipulating bully he always was, so it is stupid to think letting him back into my life will be a positive thing. Guess I am mourning losing what I never had. Stupid hah.
and I have been forced to move about 20 times in my life. I am petrified of moving. Well, that is how I am. How are you guys doing today?
Hugs sprite
thanks lady, for the hug :)
You have a wonderful husband & kids Sprite, you are missing nothing!
Sprite why do you have to move? Does your father own the house?
so true, lynxxx! That is what I am telling myself. We built something my father will never have. I know I am stupid to be so sad. But I am.
Hugs lots of hugs sprite
Lady: no, but part of my hubby's burnout is caused by money problems. He wants to move to a cheaper home. It is all because I cannot work anymore.
Oh ok. I understand.
Money issues really suck.
they do, especially if someone cannot see things are working out anyway. My love is stressed out over it, no matter how often I show him we are doing ok. Not great, but ok.
I've seen a few shows on people who undertake houseboat living. Its looks quite difficult and with many many things to consider like where to moor it and the cost of that. Maybe there are other options you can consider also. I so hope this issue can be quickly overcome - if only for your sake {{hugs}}
Ok is good
r
thanks so much, lynxxx. And lady. It really helps to be allowed to vent to you and know you care. True about the houseboat living issues. But how to reason with a man whose dream it is to live on the water?
morning all, or evening, etc!
hi Gwen!
wonder how long it'll take me to finish 1/4 of this puzzle
Sprite - perhaps that dream can wait until the kids leave home, really that would not be long to wait
about 1/6 of the time it will take to finish all of it ;)
Book HI.
Hi Gwen - probably not long - lots and lots of 'endings'
Sprite what about your mobility issues and boating?
I am right with you, lynxxx! Now only to convince my love.
Lady: not at all easy. That is partly why I agreed to come looking at it. Perhaps if he sees how tough it is for me to just get on and off, he will realise it is not the best way to go.
I'd hate to veto it, though I will if I have to. It is much better if we can work it out together.
Ok Sprite
Gwen, about 25 minutes for 1/3 of this grid.
I have been at this for ages
and that includes chatting. Nice thing with biggies, you usually get to make a flying start :)
Indeed
bad thing is, usually you hit a very solid brick wall somewhere later, lol lady.
I have 118 left
going strong then, hun.
yes I have done all the c words
152 words down, 9 minutes. 8-D
sounds about right, without the chatting :) Nice going, Gwen!
what, no points for Warg ? ? ? ?
WOW Gwen
Book i agree
good word, warg LOL
Wang isn't acepted either
silly game
brb, am sort of in the middle of a panic attack.
It'll be OK Spritey
Hugs Sprite
BBS a round 100 left
203 words down, pant pant
I ahve 97 left
back, realised I was losing it. Just cried my heart out on my hubby's shoulder. Better now.
you guys are doing great!
Oh Sprite Hugs
good evening
can really use the hugs, thanks lady. hi hillary!
Hi hillary
Hi Hillary
chirp chirp!
brb
nice flag, lorrie!
hi Hillary
Thank Gwen.. :)
hi y'all
morning Ata
Hello Ata..
Wowee, good morning all, what a big grid. I am going to try to complete it today...while I recover from yesterdays work day.
hi there turtle
hi there atalante
hi Red!
love your pic, lorrie :)
Hi Lynxx, how are you??
great thanks Red...and you, you've come to grips with the new job?
Thanks Ate - quite cute I though! :)
The job is usually fine, yesterday I got a very critical patient who tried to die a variety of times and then had this horrible all over bleeding issue, and I did nto enjoy it at all.
how inconsiderate of him!
I bet! wow, no wonder you are exhausted
back again, hi all who entered when I was away
It was unfortunate for all...the patient, myself the doctor and the other staff who i was not very nice to.
Hi red and Ata
oh my, red, that is really tough!
wb sprite :) Hope you are ok...
Red did said patient pull through?
I am sure everyone would get uptight under those circumstances Red
Ata have you seen the LJ spotlight hollow_art i think?
well, with pressure like that, nice is not a priority, red.
hi everyone
Well, I feel good about the part I played in talking tot he wife...but I hope that people will forgive me for being kind of annoyed...We had to put in a pacemaker in the ER, a wire into the heart...
Lorrie: ok enough, I guess. Panic alone is not fatal, I believe ;)
Hi Andree
ogre
hello Andree!
hi Andree
sorry, mind is in other places tonight
People will forgive you, red. You were under a huge amount of pressure. Being nice is not really important at such a moment.
TY Andree!!!
Just try and take it easy - I know from experience it isn't easy to do that, but.... :)
no, not yet, herin. does it look good?
Hi Andree
I am waiting for SES to arrive a tree has fallen on one of my trucks
Ata it has all sorts of icons
I can't seem to take a trick at the moment
Damn Andree thats irritating
will try, Lorrie, thanks :) I took a calming pill. That is a start, usually I don't even allow myself that much. Hubby and I decided we will just go and take a look. Just for inspiration, for now.
In your yard Andree?
I wish all I felt was irritation
darn Andree, that slows down business again :(
*crawls off to sin bin*
andree that stinks!!! q a whole truck...
Well i don't think what i would like to say could be printable
It puts a lot of things out of commission doesnt it?
lol lady, you are doing fine. I got what you didn't print anyway ;)
no lynxxx , across the road in a little reserve where it was parked as my temporary driver had to take the day off, otherwise it would not have been in the wrong place at the wrong time
things are not easy business-wise for you at the moment, are they Andree :(
as you said 'can't take a trick' hope it isn't too damaged. I assume you have the gale type winds we had a few days ago Andree
it will probably be drivable, the roof is damaged etc, I have taken lots of photos for the insurance but if the cables are undamaged it should be able to make deliveries tomorrow
*keeps fingers crossed for Andree that the damage will prove to be limited and quickly solved*
G'd morning Babblers!!! Bigger-ish grid, yea!
hi Lori, it is a fun one.
Hi Lori
Ata hollow_art has torchwood icons
fingers and toes crossed here , won't know until the tree is removed
hi lori
(!)
Hi Lori
done, Gwen?
are you at all near New Brunswick, Lori?
Just scrolled down, sorry 'bout that Andree! Hopefully things will be remedied quickly.
I can be there in a couple hours drive Ata.
nope, still have 89 to go . . . working on Ws
well don't! there are thousands of bees on their biggest road!
I blame ata this time for my wanderings
you are going amazingly fast, Gwen!
aw gee thanks
its next to a school and by the phone calls to the office when it happened must have been when school ended for the day and all the kids use this area as a shortcut, so the upside is if the truck wasn't there it would have killed someone
Oh yes Ata, I saw that. Quite amazing. The rain kept them somewhat contained, and they are trying to keep it that way......
is Ata our new FMitch, lady? Can we blame her for everything now?
noooo. still FM
Sounds like bad luck, but good luck then Andree. :(
that is some consolation, Andree, at least. Though it doesn't compensate you financially.

**hears screams from letter C**... Go Herin !!
I truly admire you organised guys. I am just typing away randomly.
ditto here!

I had to ditch them and the S words first as they were driving me batty
awww that is great :) Not alone there either.
I am currently listening to Iron Maiden, Hell is from Here to Eternity...... This grid is nice, but Hell underneath !!
roflol Ata
Sprite its not a matter of organising but a matter of getting rid of something irritating
ah, like I do with my Ks. Cannot babble until I got rid of them.
grrr, I want salad to work, but, theres not enough A's !
I gave up on the salad, Ata. My hubby made me bacon and eggs, with coffee.
you my eat the eggs, but, please share the bacon !
im trying to get rid of all my l,s first.thought i was doing well till i found out there is sposed to be 21 of them:(
*shares the crunchy, tasty bacon*
**gives cross a huge hug and says, there, there**
mmmmmmmmm, thanks Sprite !
you ARE doing well, cross. It is the grid that is crazy, not you. Most of the time.
21 that start with la?? give me a break
Cross i ahve found 20
Aussie, here is an extra A for you so you can have SALAD. I want you to be happy.
cross, they come in packs, mostly. They are not that hard.
HI Scrabbler
Hello & happy July 1st to all.
Mmmmmm, I love Salad, thanks Scrabbs !!
Happy July 1st to you too Scrabbs !!
hi Scrabbler, good to see you :)
Hi Scrabs - Our new financial year
The only good thing about this date is tax return
rabbits eat the salad,we eat the rabbits:) hide that bunny scrabbler:)
willbe my bd in a week
Do you file taxes by July 1st in Australia, lady?

I like to see fluffy bunnies running round the fields !
I am getting my foster bunny spayed in 2 days.
since i had money coming back i had mine filed by the end of feb:)
I should be getting about $260
ow yes, Ata. A layer of crunchy iceberg salad, pasta on top, then rabbit :)
***Evreybody wang chung tonight....***
but I love them also when they are fluffy and cuddly, Scrabbler :D
Scrabs - we have from July 1 to October 10 to lodge - but it is nowhere near as bad as you guys have it in the US - very simple fr most people - about 6 items average
Are you guys serious about eating rabbit meat?
I am wangdering what that means, Lori
Everybody wang chung tonight, la la la.
I have before Scrabbler but I wouldn't say it to a rabbit owner
Scrabbs, I would NEVE, EVER, eat Rabbit !!
rabbit's a very traditional food here
well, I am just as happy with chicken, Scrabbler :)
Bad 80's music sprite........ :D
The Wang Chung were also a group of chinese fighters from the film Big Trouble In Little China !!
ah, thanks :D Being an outlander shows, no matter what, lol.
Yes, I do realize people eat rabbit meat.
Scrabbler is this foster rabbit going to end up being a new pet?
rabbit traditional here as well ata
oh god, that film! That was SO funny.
Wasn't it Spritey !!
Hello! A little bit of afternoon Babble, a very little bit...
it was. Totally fantastic, hilarious dialogues and still it was scary at points. I loved it. My kids do too.
Hey ajv !
Hi ajv
I still love it Sprite !
hiya ajv, welcome to the grid and the caht
*chat
so do I, Aussie. Nice you brought it up. Just the kind of movie to watch later today with the kids and feel better myself as a result :D
lady--the family that owns the rabbit will be buying a house soon and I will find out if they want her back. I have absolutely fallen in love with her as she is so social and docile. But she belongs to them. On the other hand, they have not called to ask about her or to come visit her.
Hi AJV
Oh Scrabbler i do hope you can keep the rabbit
sounds like the rabbit is better off with you then, Scrabbler
Hey Spritey..... heres one for you !! Jack Burton: Great. Walls are probably three feet thick, welded shut from the outside, and covered with brick by now! Wang Chi: Don't give up, Jack! Jack Burton: OK, I won't, Wang! Let's just CHEW our way out of here.
She is a very happy house rabbit now---no longer trapped in a cage. She sprints all over the downstairs at full speed, which is very funny to observe. She is a 3 lb 13 oz fluff ball.
And not at all spoilt right Scrabbler?
roflol, oh yes! Thanks Aussie, you actually managed to make me laugh.
lol@ free range house rabbit
**stands and takes a little curtsey**
*takes gun away from crosshair*
lady--she jumps on the sofa to sit next to me, she lies down across my feet under this desk....she has bonded with her foster mama!
**likes mental image of bunny running round downstairs**
Awww that is so cute Scrabbler. Cross we do not eat our pets
so lovely, Scrabbler. Can they be housebroken, or do you have to watch out for peeing all the time?
carefull youll make me all misty here lol
lol cross, you wicked man :D
ok, guys..... much as I want to stay and babble with you all, I have some laundry to do, and then, off to work for me......

I will be back to babble when I finish work.......
life go4 on, Aussie. Have a gr5 day. *hugs*
Cross is doing his impression of Elmer Fudd !!
wheres the wabbit?
Crosshair's not likely to end up in Scrabs hospital is he?
hey hey, that won't do at all, cross. You cannot shoot a rabbit and eat it right away. And you cannot shoot Scrabbler's rabbits, or she will eat you pretty soon after.
I think i may start calling Cross Glenn Close
Crosshair, don't make me hurt you, OK? Hahaha.
nope, lynxxx. Not alive anyway.
**Hugs Sprite back**..... {{{babble Group Hug}}} and lol @ spritey says Scrabbs will eat Cross !!
mmm maybe ill go with beef....

TY for that clue, Sprite.
LOL Cross
interesting way of putting it. Doesn't leave much, does it :) And yvw Scrabbler :)
Broccoli can cast a big shadow, haha.
Morning all.
Hi Jac!
perhaps potatoes... they grow underground, so don't cast a shadow. Until you dig them up, of course.
*hugs Jac*
Hi Jac
you see that scientific report? they are trying to prove that vegtables have souls and actually scram at the moment of picking or imersion in boiling water
*ponders subterranean, poorly-lit restaurant*
vampires dont have shadows
electronic impuses or some other thing
wooooot getting there
so what can we eat then? Oh wait, we come from hunters and collectors... we can kill to stay alive.
impulses
Ata, I know some vampires that I wouldn't mind taking a bite from.
i think we can eat kelp that has come loose and slime off of wt rocks and trees
wet
Potatoes have eyes, you know.
yummie, that sounds very tasty, cross.
Hi Jacula!!
kelp has feelings too
not when im done with them they dont:)
Have to go again, bye!
I always goudge out potato eyes.
bye ajv!
does toast scream when we pop it in the toaster?
Sprite! I thought you we4 a gentle soul! Poor potatoes. ;-)
my therapist claims we cannot be responsible for everybody's feelings, Ata
ice cream does
mmm dead cow on my fork
All this talkof eating rabbits and vampires is making me nervous.
flood chain=man=everything else
Yes, jacula, I am feeling a bit nauseated myself.
bbl later ladies
I can be a gentle soul. With a vicious streak though. Do you love me less now, Jac?
back again for a short burst
bye cross
Later Cross
Just fooling around, Scrabbler. Will respect your bunnies everyday.
wb Andree
I still love you, Sprite, but I doubt you're a heroine in the potato history books.:-)
how did it go Andree?
Ok i am going for a while night all
Bye Lady
no, I seem to be their Evil Sprite
bye lady *hug*
I once did a poem about hurting vegetables. I might put it in my blog later.
hugs
that would be nice, Jac :D
tree is off the truck, cables seem intact should be back on the road tomorrow, just have then to deal with panel beating quotes and the insurance company, could have been a lot worse
Sprite - did you get my invitation to the blog? It's the only way you can read it now.
oh, and thanks for the invitation! Haven't gotten around to it, but will very soon.
'Bye for now, Herin.
GOD BLES OUR SES
I am glad it wasn't too bad, Andree.
Hooray for ALL volunteers

don't think I know the cu8 word and can't find the re8
re8 lunges forward again
the cu8 is rather like the cl9 yesterday
I have cu7
I am still trying to get that ex5 that was clued--help please.
Peri, it's based on a cu6 word (not in the grid). MrCollins in Pride and Prejudice was one. Get the word for his position and make it plural (singular ends in y)
I am off, thanks all for the chat and the company. Have a great day and/or night, all of you.
Bye Sprite--enjoy the day.
'Bye spritey.
bye Sprite - hope the day goes well
Bye sprite - take care! :)
Scrabbler - it's xe5 (typing error) xe plus first part of the country whose capital is Moscow.
don't remember Pride and Prejedice will have to look it up
TY, Hazel, I was losing what little of my mind is still intact.
its cu + letter + ending of the cl9 from yesterdau
found 2 cu7 but not cu8
Sorry to mislead, Scrabbler.
trying to remember cl9 from yesterday :-)
It's cu plus plural what athletes run/definition of ethnic origin with an extra vowel thrown in.
ah, got the cu8, thanks Haz and Ata
now for the re8
Great!
See you all tomorrow!.... Hmmmm, now where exactly is the washing machine in this house!! :\
bye Lorrie
**thinking about what athletes run**
Bye lorrie.
we're all busy in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting re****ents
on a track scrabb
laps, ovals, miles,
we are the human ****
still not getting the re8 :(
how do they do that Scrabs?
None of them are in the grid, Scrabbler, this word is.
tortoise and hare ran a r***
We are human beans, right?
I finally got cu8 after multiple tries!
peri, find the su5/16 and su6/27 combination. Think of the ebb and flow of water and a sudden increase.
ok
Then do it again to get the re7 and re8 combination.
With only 262 to go I must get ready for work. Bye all.
Bye Scrabbler, have a good day.
bye Scrabs, have a good day
bye scrabbler

of course you did - YOU are a genius
Dorens is Hilarious
Hi Dorens, Knowing you, you will finish this biggie before you leave, you smarty!
Dorens, where are you off to?
2 canine names
Cambridge (Boston). birthday party for Phoebe is tonight
Annie, do you ever go to the Bronx? You might really enjoy the Henry Moore exhibit at the Botanical Gardens this summer
dorens, How old is Phoebe? I am guessing two..remember when she was born
You are right. And that is when I started babbling in earnest. a week or two before she was born. two great anniversaries
Dorens, I dont get to the Bronx anymore but I might go to the Moore exhibit...my aunt used to live across the street from the Gardens
It is so worth the trip. we went Saturday in all that heat, which was oppressive, but still magnificent and worthwhile
dorens, will call the Gardens and see how long the exhibit will be there...might save that for cooler weather
can i get a clur for the do 516 the first one
2nd one i mean
a motherless calf, Lynn
well, it would be fine as long as it isn't one of the hot muggy humid days in the 90's... there are lots of summer days that don't get like that... otherwise.. I think it may be through September. let me know when you do go.
sorry lynn - I don't have that yet
like plural of canine with a vowel stuck in there lyn?
dorens, if I go I will def. let you know
dont get clue
Lynn,. a motherless calf...and dorens clued it also
plural of rulers of Venice
doiges
ooopppppsssss
and its much nicer to say "I'm sorry, but I don't get the clue. Could you please help some more?"
switch the I and E
someone hit me lol im not getting it! time to go back to bed
so I knocked off 101 and still no greys!
WOW Dorens
114. and every other word in my list has an s at the end
dorens, the O in the first column....og and plural and you will have a grey one
the others have er
ok got that one ty what about second do 5 16 please
Yeah - a greyed block thanks Annie
do5/16 - Unplural the 6/27

I work for a specialty health care company managing their Board and Committees but am hoping to switch to Kaiser ( yes, I know managed care is evil)
TY Flosey.
My parents LOVE Kaiser - not available here
they cure us with policy changes, DR1965!
off to prepare German class at 10:30
they NEED to be managed
Most people I talk to either love it or hate it but it would be an oppty. to work less hours closer to home and not lose a ton of my income.
FUnny Harp-
that's always nice
I know Harp - "I'm sorry but you are not ALLOWED to have that illness - therefore you are well""
I think we have all had that experience!

could someone clue a few of the ce6's?
*know*
Thank you, kje... it was a lifeline at certain darker times...
the second time was about a year after we left Ontario to settle in BC
Was it also malignant melanoma, flosey?
ce6/27 - same structure as the big top show, change one vowel
no prostate, and reappeared in same site
ce6/24 - same structure as ce6/27 but change a consonant for a vowel
That happened to beloved too... in 2005... eight weeks of intensive radiation and chemo..
ce6/24 - ce plus a trick or scheme (same letters as previous ce6/24)
ce6/24 - a pause in a line of verse
thanks, haz!!
You're welcome.
Haz, I think I missed your clever clueing more than anything when I was "absent"...
That's very kind of you, Scarlet!
I must tell you about my sister's good fortune yesterday. She went across to WImbledon, queued up and eventually found herself (thanks to returned tickets) on Centre Court for the last hour of the Murray v Gasquet thriller last night.
Morning, everyone.
I was a delicate shade of green.
Now I am going to the gardens... I have to expand (digging, dirting and building up the slant
happy gardening, scarlet!
Good morning, Bzzzzzzzzz... Oh, your sister must have been delerious from joy, Haz!
slanted slope) and transplanting the sunflowers, which have reached a height of nearly five feet!
time for first coffee break, bbs
She was thrilled! She hadn't expected that treat at all. She's there again today, but watching seniors and men's doubles matches. She was fortunate, indeed.
Thanks, Une... best get out before the sun makes it too hot to work!
enjoy scarlet - and sunscreen!
Enjoy your gardening!
Do you get an update as soon as she gets home! Yes, kje... I've learned the hard way. Be back soon, everyone. Happy Babble-Madness!
She text messages me!
thanks haz
I would have been more more than a delicate shade of green, Haz.
Bye Scarlet.
*delirious?* 'Bye!
I was delighted for her. I watched the match at home, yelling from time to time.
You're welcome, harpjane.
I wasn't sure Murry was going to pull it out.
I was convinced he was going to lose and couldn't quite believe what was happening.
But now he must play Rapha.
But that's the thrill of tennis. It isn't over until it's over, if you know what I mean. I was sure they were going to run out of light.
I can't see him beating Nadal, I really can't. He's playing so powerfully.
Only if Nadal has an injury, I think.
must go again - butt getting numb - BBL
Bye kje.
Tata, kje.
An injury, or both arms tied behind his back, or made to wear ankle chains.
LOL!
THEN Murray might have a chance.
Anyway, the sky is brightening a bit so I'd better take the chance to get Spangle a walk. Have a good day. Bye!
Bye, Haz.
bea, just read your icon, loved that movie
your bio, I should say
I can't count how many times I've watched it.

Do you have big plans then, flosey?
we had a big celebration in Vancouver Saturday with daughters and extended families and friends

LOL! I was only joking.
one daughter's partner has been throwing this huge weekend do for years - started out with just the guys, then they all got girlfriends, wives, children so has become quite big
they start out with golf, then lunch, walk along the seawall, then big bbq at his mom's place that goes on until the wee hours
fireworks for me...
Sounds like fun.

cranch? Crough? country living??
My summer job was on Isle Royale, an island in the middle of Lake Superior. The closest part of the mainland was Thunder Bay, Ontario. Folks were getting homesick, cabin fever etc. and although fireworks were not allowed on the Island, our boss agreed to take us by boat to a spot where we could, allegedly, see the Canada Day fireworks in Thunder Bay....
c+ru5/12
sharon, not urban, but *****
So off we go, into the middle of Lake Superior. The western sky was beautiful and it turned into a hundred different colors as we headed further into the lake.
Eventually we could see little pink and orange "dots" on the horizon, the fireworks at Thunder Bay. Everyone was straining to see these little poofs, and they were completely ignoring the beautiful sunset....
d's done
As the evening continued, the sunset faded into Northern Lights, then a beautiful set of bright stars. But everyone was still trying to see the little teeny fireworks....
29 years ago and I still remember the fireworks that God showed us!
I have all the cu's except the 5/16 at the end. anyone have a clue on that one?

Hello, Aloysisius .. I could talk forever about how I am but will simply thank you for asking
Aloy!! :-) Nance!! :-) Cait!! :-) Bzzz!! :-) ruru!! :-) BR-r!! :-) It is wonderful to see everyone again!
Hey, Scarlet.
Hi Scarlet great to see you
:-)
well, I hope all is well with you, BR! Scarlet? She appears! Yay! So nice to see you again, too... I read your profile and am glad also that beloved and you have pulled through a storm. Rejoice! And welcome back!
hello, peoples
Thank you, thank you, Aloy... and I rejoice with every breath!
Hi babrab
BR-r... it is so good to see that your computer did not die... you had mentioned some weeks back that you might disappear altogether if your machine did not improve. Good news that you are still amongst the living.
BTW, I printed out that RWE quote... love it so much and haven't seen it for a long time.. I ty for that Scarlet.
How are you, Aloy... Cait... Bzzz? Catch me up, please! Thank you, Aloy...neither had I seen it in many ages, but it just "appeared" when beloved was going through the storm...
LOL Scarlet Im fine and my family put a great day together for me on Sat,other than that Im still plodding on thankfully !!
What was Saturday, Cait... a birthday that I missed?
I thought I would try Steinbeck's mantra for a bit .. to the stars on the wings of a pig
Am fine, Scarlet.. traveling a wee bit too much this year.. mostly family related. Seems our fledglings have all located out west... gheez.. Calif, NM and AZ.. with airfares and the economy and all, we have gently notified them all that perhaps a well-planned family reunion in a convenient spot during a NON holiday time would be a better alternative in the future..
You have had more than enough to worry about Scarlet but yes it was my bday on Sat
Happy Belated B-day, caitlyn!
LOL... Aloy, I know what you mean about travelling... but at least you had the opportunity to see the gang! How is your darling Mia?
Thank you Aloy
Cait... I am not in a worry mode now... So: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO CAITLYN!! @@@ <----roses and truffles for
YOU!!
Thank you Scarlet !!
:-) Are you 21 again, Cait? ;-)
Oh yes again and again and again !
Oh that was 1 again too muchLOL
**giggling madly now** I have been 21 for three decades, cait!
seems as though birthdays show up every year around the same time
Mia is wonderful tho her mom reports that she still fights going to sleep in her crib.. we are going out next month to "babysit" for a couple of weeks while the other grandma takes a well-deserved vacation break..
It's so odd, BR-r... danged if I know how that works.
My grandchildren laugh at me because Iforget my age, theyhave to tell me LOL BabRab they come quicker now though
Oh, Aloy... a couple of weeks with the little rosebud... how sweet is that?
priceless, Scarlet.. (-:
That will be great Aloy, Im sure you will have lots of fun
My grands just stare at me when I tell them, "Yes, Baba is very, very old," and then I break into a spontaneous version of the Funky Chicken... LOL
LOL
LOL, Scarlet.. I have a great quote for you.. hang on
Okey dokey...
All holding our breath........
"Those who dance were thought to be quite insane, by those who do not hear the music"
**getting blue here**
Ohhhh... perfect for us, Aloy...
sorry... don't know the author, but LOVE the quote
I think its great Aloy
yes, i guess i identify with it... go funky chicken!
Although there was no music in a hot and sweaty Tescos shop today
There was another one that I just loved, but cannot remember the exact quote: I want to slip on a banana peel when I'm all used up in my 90's with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other... actually the quote was better than my ancient memory, but it was cute!! Yea for Funky Chicken dancers worldwide!!
Well, some places say Angela Monet, others say George Carlin, and yet others say other people. (The author, that is)
lol, i get the drift, Scarlet!
Hi Uni!!
UNi!! {{hugs and Happy Canada Day}}
cool, Uni.. you googled?
Yes, google. I thought it was a wonderful quote, Aloy!
are you doing something special on Canada Day, Uni?
Hello all...I really wish this grid weren't so darned big! Only 156 so far.
Uni, are you going to be in line for the first viewing of the second X-Files' movie? I can't wait. :-)
We went to see a parade this morning (rather disappointing) and are now hibernating in the cool of our apt until this evening for the fireworks. It's my first day off in a while, so mostly relaxing.
ah, well... good thing you have the day off on a BigGrid day!
hey uni
How are you, nance?
There is a poster for the X-Files movie right next tomy store that I stare at lovingly every day! I am making a "Gillian Anderson recommends" feature as well :)
I have a poster from the first X-Files movie right on my office wall! LOL
Make the most of your day off Uni
I am looking to find a good (X-Files) print to hang on the bare wall in our apt. Might be easier soon!
hi again :) one of my friends met Gillian A recently!
just glancing back a bit, love that quote Aloy
have been in and out all morning
Thanks Aloy, Cait. I try! Ata, if I met Gillian A. I would probably break into very emtional tears and require resuscitation. :)
Hi Ata Hi again flosey
I have to go make some nice, fat BLTs for lunch... If I see on in my travels, Uni, I will send it to you. Hi, Ata!! It's flosey's birthday today... Everyone: "Happy Birthday to..."
I think friend pretyt much did!
*one*
Having major problems finding the cu7's...any help?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLOSEY!!
Happy Birthday Flosey !!!!!
Flosey and Canada share a birthday? How wonderful!!! Fireworks for you nationwide...literally!
hi flosey, hi nance.. hi Ata.. am looking up for a sec, buried in the grid.. later, Scarlet!
*Scarlet* Will miss you!

Bye Scarlet see you tomorrow take care
Later dear ladies!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLOSIE!!!
back in Ontario, our town had a Canada Day parade which of course was a gathering of the whole street, great fun
thank you Aloy and wildcat
There are three cu7/36 - the easiest one to find is the last - plural hot Indian food. The penultimate one is the same, save for the final letter which moves one back in the alphabet. The first cu7/36 is plural cu6/24 - it ends in the past tense of 'sprint'.
hi there, Haz!
Hello Aloy and everyone!
Hi Haz
Hello caitlyn.
Aloyisius, I love your quote...and so apt too....I copied it for some people I know. Happy Babbleing.
and ty for the cu clues.. yay
G'd afternoon Haz.
You're welcome, Aloy.
Good afternoon Uniquity - enjoying your day off?
yw gapeach.. and hi to you; are you new or have we been babbling at different times? nice to meet you!
I'd enjoy it more if there were fewer words to be found..
Haz when is your holiday?
I thought you would be thrilled with a bigger grid!
We will be away the first two weeks in August, caitlyn.
But it's Canada Day! I spent an our this afternoon watching a WONDERFUL gentleman making the best baloon animals. I want to go watch again...:)
Wont be long then Haz
Balloon animals better than babble?
Who will be acting chief while you are away, Haz?
I know, I'll be starting to count down the weeks.
I don't know, Uniquity. Are you volunteering?
I think Ata would do well...or perhaps Lori. She loves the clipboard!
missing 6 re words!! any clues for the first re5/18 please?
Ata will be away too!
Lori would be well suited to the task, you're right.
re + patch a hole with needle and thread
Where are you going Ata?
Are you trying to say that I'm not?
re5/18 - to do with the hated needle and thread activity.
Oregon again :)
thanks Haz
You lucky thing how long for this time ?
Oh yes...Ata's off on another holiday while I slave away at home with the rest of us 'lowly' babblers. Who will be smug while you are off? We need to fill TWO positions now! *sigh*
that gave me 3
I'm sure you'd be great, Ata, as well.
You're welcome Flosey.
5 weeks, but half of this trip is work
now, re7/40 please?
I thought you were going to be Canadian this summer, rather than American again?
nm got it
re+ a large burst of electricity or water.
In those 5 weeks, we were planning on coming into Canada for a week, but now husband wants to go to Yellowstone instead
I can practice smugness but I cant do it as well as Haz :)
thanks bea
Ata is the smuggest of all, though. I try to emulate her.
i had such fun for 15 mins this morning entering 200 words! i love the beginning part of larger grids.
*try* :)
howdy hurshy
Well Ata, I might have to cut off contact with you if you'
And your keyboard? Still in one piece or looking bewildered?
re going to be so anti-Canadian:)
I will never be able to match it then sorry, I will just stay as 1st aider in babbleland
hi alo et al
Hi hurshy
hurshy!!
You're pretty vital, caitlyn, we call often for smellling salts.
Cait, we need your first aid abilities in case Ata ever falls of her pedestal. Or if we stub our toes running to greet her.
phew, just "earned" the list, hi ho hi ho its off to the list i go..
There is also a lot of champagne drinking in the PB...someone must tend to the drunkards.
Back in a few...
LOL Uni I had better go and see to them now !
mornin' all!
Aloyisius, thanks...I play at different times during the day and night. I do enjoy the Chat Log, I feel like I know y'all. It's a good feeling.
just invented a short version of the oriental transport, i.e. "ricsaw"
well, i'm gonna go ahead and ask for an X clue... please :)
Morning autumn Happy Canada day to you
xe + the beginning of oxidation
thx caitlyn. hope you're having a good day
thx aloy.
Great thanks
yw.. new to me
the beginning of ... ... breaking molecules apart...
what happens to a nail in moisture, hurshy
And now I must go and do some dead heading in the garden..........I will leave the smelling salts in case anyone needs them as the grid is big, see you all tomorrow, and have a great day Flosey, bye

anyone have the top E besides not-beginnings?
yeah it's e + 3 consonants
the same could be said of not-beginnings...
We are speaking e**li*h
same but change one con
the other EN4 is only one-letter different...
lol, got it
aw, nice icon evanadine
TY hurshy -- im rather fond of unis :)
i love canada, btw, just too lazy to change my icon, y'know... i'll change it in november.
I was trying to find one I actually liked and this was it. But thanks! :)
There were so many cute little girls and boys out today in shirts with flags all over them. It always tugs my heartstrings.
we have our holiday coming up on friday -- gonna be tons of red, white + blue everywhere!
C's and S's *hunted look*
Canada Day is the only 'holiday' I really like. I end up sniffling with overwhelming gratitude from time to time. Seeing vets sets me right off!
you don't like christmas?
im a Halloween gal, personally... but fireworks are always fun too. :)
Loathe Christmas. Over-blown stressful days with very rude people for weeks before and after. Ptth. Halloween is fab too, I suppose. Except for the egging/TPing/violence part. Hooligans, I say!
I'm such an old lady :)
hooligans and ruffians!
I agree UNI!!
oooeee i finished the left D
got here just in time to defend Xmas, I see!!!
i enjoy christmas, but thats probably because (1) i always get the most heartfelt gifts, regardless of price (high or low) and (2) i shop online! heh it helps that the BF and i actually celebrate the christianity of it all as well!
Happy Canada day folks
hooligans, ruffians, and harum-scarums (but scarum doesn't count as a word)
to you too, gadget!
*Declining religious aspect of holidays altogether* :) And the cost...pahoo, the cost. Lack of sincerity, the feeling of "having" to give gifts to certain people. I prefer to celebrate only with those I wish to spend time with. I love that part, but the rest I could leave.
im with you on all counts, uni!
new word, open for definition contest: crudge
Anyway, no time for controversy! How is the weather in the Southern North America?
love the music, the decorations, the lights . . . and love my annual buffet dinner for friends!
finally under 100 words left
oohhh, like it, hursh!!
Go wildcat go!! I have 68 left eluding me.
hot uni
Crudge sounds like a shortened version of curmudgeon (sp?).
thx
trying to keep up with hursh have 4 more of those d's to go
or chocolate candy with too many nuts . . .
I like that one
there ya go, une, that's the creative spirit!
or a mark made with crayon
The co words are blowing me away. I am ignoring them.
oh ho, so there are a lot of co words, are there?
i only have one, clearly i must look at these
Only 7, but I don't like them.
just wrapped up the co's with a big fat bow!
hursh, think of a french after-dinner drink
and plural
yep, just found those
and had the dude from the jetsons
Oh, done them now. They all seem french. Thanks, Une!
:-D
er, i mean, what the dude MADE - it was only part of his name.
they all seem french, eh?
all of the last four sound like the call of a French duck
they don't just ... quack?
yep and that's what they sound like :-)
*bewildered*
okay.... I changed my icon pic and updated my profile.... Just for Canada Day!!!
*me too*
never heard a french duck
ok, well, i know they have to come after the four, so that should help
Throw an extra consonant in your spare change and build off that.
like roosters say cocorico!
got two
bbl
oh, i thought you already had them, hursh! LOL
they all start with the same 5 letters
no sirree, i'm a-countin on you
got them, good job I understand French fowl
kind of an anagram of a gerund
ata :-)
Autumn, your profile ROCKS. I've read most of them before, but for once they weren't derogatory...to us at least :)
whew, that's that then
I liked my spare change clue..Guess my attempt at intellectualism failed, eh?
thanks to une and uni for the help
i can't believe i still need 20 more S words
uni, that was a GREAT clue!
ca words toast! Must fight the ce words again.
i would have used your clue if i hadn't sadly missed it :(
oh dear, how many ce words today?
hey I'm
baaaack
Again, only 7. I just find C words unusually diffidult most of the time.
so do i, uni, so do i
esp ce and ci
mmmmm smarties *hands round chocolate for all*
I hope we didn't make M&Ms, cuz they are awful. Never liked them
smarties aren't... wait, we've already had this discussion
american smarties ick, british smarties not
hurshy are american smarties chocolate
i suppose a dogcur would be redundant...
I need a clue for any of the ce6s please. Stinky C words.
hurshy, I meant that as a question
(and i mean that unidirectionally)
ce6 sounds like a dog star
no, peri, they are not
We made the Big Turk and Hawkin's Cheesies - those are my pride of Canadian junk food
do you eat chocolate, Lexlee?
one of the ce6/27 sounds like the big top here
...Smarties are always chocolate! They are smarties!
and then, i need all the other ce6, so if you clue them it's a twofer
ok, I have had american smarties and don't like them
nobody likes them. i'm surprised they haven't gone out of business.
maybe they get government subsidies.
What is in them then? Air?
hursh, did you see my clue for one of the ce6
yes peri, thanks
they are tart fruit sugar candies :P
waaay toooo many C words here
they are really nasty candies, american smarties
Whatever these so called American Smarties are, they sound like an abomination.
an abomination that causes desolation
they're still better than candy hearts... i swear they're made with chalk and beeswax
Thanks Peri, Hursh. Only three ce left for me.
i disagree, the tartness makes smarties worse, in my opinion
I amwondering if American Smarties aren't what I call Rockets...off to google!
They are little discs of compressed sugar that come rolled up in plastic, yes?
indeed, Uni
yes
Those are rockets, up here. Little kids like them. Big halloween candy. Not that great, but no abomination!
help for the 2nd ar5 plz
sa6/18 clue please?
ok, so there could have been hyperbole here
Hurshy! PUG-ness! Hello and it's very good to see you again.
ar5---ar* you feeling s**k ?
scarletta!
hey, Scarlet, I am here too!
I wonder now why you guys don't just call them rockets as well. I'll need to remember this in the future. I wonder if it is because rocket is a touchy term? Hmm...
sa6 alt sp of karate teacher
Ata-atta!!
hi Scar!!!
thx pug
Peri, dear! HI and {{hugs to thee}}
we have a basketball team called the rockets, so i don't think it's terribly touchy
ty hursh
The song Gay Bar has been edited now because it says "lets start a war, a nuclear war"....they put fuzz over war and nuclear war. I don't think it is always editted though. At least, I hope.
first cr5/14 please
oooeee only 1 more L
cr*ella devile + I **n all the way here!
then add a consonant for the 6.
thanks Uni, was getting a headache looking for them
i just wikipedia-ed the whole smarties vs. rockets thing, it says that the reason they are marketed as rockets in Canada is too avoid confusion with the Nestle Smarties, which is the European chocolate candy
50 to go!!!
the REAL smarties!
154 here.
90 here
So American smarties were about before the chocolate ones.
87
37 measly words left.
for N i have nostrils and tattletale... anyone have the other?
126
I am stuck in the cu words now
Drug cop, hursh
c's are rough today
tattletale?
cu clue: pastoral positions help on behalf of a vicar
drug cop = tattletale
multiple meanings for that word :)
ok thanks
Add a vowel
have that cu hursh, thanks
ah well peri, just thought i would try
Almostall the cu words I have start with cu and the consonant from 'to heal'
sorry for the delay (i'm at work) but Uni, I'm pretty sure that the European Smarties were around first, which is why they had to market them as Rockets in Canada... because Smarties already existed for you.
mine too, all but actor prompts
This is just silly. Then American Smarties should be called rockets as well. I wish that 'name brands' didn't make everything so complicated. But thanks Sean! I was way too lazy to research.
Our Snickers used to be called Marathons. Wish they still were
Good Afternoon everyone. Anyone for coffee, I just made a fresh pot of Sumatran.
mmm, love Snickers.. back to hopefully finish as the lawn needs mowing after all the rains
Hi, red! Here's my giant mug, thank you!
ty, rth.. one of my favs
can't see the cu5/16
Scarlet! How are you?
lol... lo again, Scarlet!
Howdy, Aloy!
well, see they made them in American, not knowing about the chocolate candies under the same name. then when they went to market the candy in Canada, they were like "oh, you already have smarties... what can we call them?" hence the difference... americans already knew them as smarties, which is why they didn't change the name for us
Hi Aloy
cu5 sounds like actors john & joan
So much happier now that the crisis is over, red! How are you now?
okay, i'm done now :P
sniffed those BLT's, Scarlet... hi peri!
yay, congrats to SeanS!!!!!
thanks hurshy
great clue, hursh!

candy can be dissolved by the enzyme su7.36
how delicious, eva!
ty alo!
Wow, Aloy! Thanks.
Mine was peanut butter, and I will admit, it was a bit disappointing. I'd call it "nto worht it"
so i have cu8... what's the other 8 start with?
sadly, it was actually TOO rich for me...but it WAS homemade by my coworker :)
tx aloy!
Can I get a clue for the re6,7,7 or 8 in a row after the plural of to patch up again?
(-: fit right in..
Timing is everything!
well, if thats the case... back onto snickers: they are the best selling candy bar of all time. global sales of over $2 Billion USD... and yes were once called marathon in the UK
snap uni!
they certainly were!
Snickers are awful. Ugh.
re6 start again
re7 one who starts again
I'm entertained that snickers tries to market a snicker variety as a "nutritional supplement..."
re6/24 to pick up where you left off
Uni to cause a great deal of electricity to black out a computer or such... and plural RE7/8
after a break, i wanted to re**** Babble, so I became a re*****
re7 re + Bush's troop su***
and plural
don't like Snickers, find it hard to believe that they are the best sellers. prefer Milky Way Dark
me too peri
well, it is a nutritional supplement - it's just not a GOOD one
Thankgs guys! Done the R words....19 left.
how about the milky way ICE CREAM bars, mmmm

I dont like dark chocolate, but I do love a snickers, but i guess I should admit I can't remember when I last had one.
I'm at 81

TO be fair I am using the list which should make this much easier.
you said 7 ce - how many ci?
I just ate a huuuge lunch. but am enjoying the coffee.
i love the snickers ice cream bar :)
three ci
3
Finally done with the C words
81 left, bbs

I see that Canada has sent a Minister to the UK to rev up some interest for us to emigrate!
therefore, we stand by our clues.
ur5 is like ar5
Yes, Une... and now I have a half-dollar coin-sized blister on the palm of my right hand... using the trowel to dig up some very rooty sod and positioning the handle against my hand as the fulcrum... no excuses.. I must go back!
i think climate change would make you want to emigrate...
got it finally thx
improving weather in the UK would be one reason to stay husrhy
ok, someone help me with CE, i have the 6 that peri clued, a 4/5 combo, and the one that sounds like the dog star

Ok, must ask... what is a ball winder ajv??

Nice, ajv... you seem happy to have it.

I like the smell of coffee = because since we did not drink coffee - when I smelled it it meant we were out to breakfast - so my brain now associates the smell of coffee to going out to breakfast mmmmmm!!

Hello peri
goodmorning everyone
Hi peri
cu5 and 6 cu + part of a minute
Hi,peri and lynxxx!
hey, lynxxx :-)
Hi, artlady!
Morning lynxxx this is getting to be a regular meeting time these days :)
awww Sily's here to help
Hi lynxxx, Scarlet, Une, et al!
TY Une
howdy, artlady :-)
Yippee, found three, now "only" cu8...
cu8 wild dog + relays with a vowel added to the middle
or cu8 wild dog + high cards in the deck with a vowel added to the middle
Thanks, Une!
yw ;-)
The D words are slain! **Picture an older lady standing atop the dragon, a la St. George!**
That's my mother...except she'd be riding the dragon, not slaying it!
scarlet, that's how i feel about the s's--just one to go!
Lyn! What are you up so early for??
**giggling** As long as she does the Funky Chicken after doing the deed, art!~
I still have three S words, Une...
HI, acoom!
Hello Scarlet
I'm always up this early Andrew. Goodmorning to you
and the last s bites the dust . . .
Just so I can get my head straight, acoom, what time is it now in Belgium? It's 3:25 here in the Southern U.S.A.
I'm impressed. I struggle to haul my carcass out of bed by 7
Yahoo for Une's proper S eradication!
:-D
it's 9.26 pm in Belgie
Uni for bagging all the s's please accept this token of esteem *passes a packet of sparklers*
Thank you, acoom.
ooohhh, i love sparklers! thanks!!
FMitch is soooo thoughtful...
I had to stop playing for a while as Sily decided she wanted cuddles
passes matches to Une...
wow, thanks, scarlet . . . . ooohhhh, pretty . . .
co 6/27's?
That's me Une... ooohhhh SHINY...

**Tosses bananas to peri's monkies** LOL, Unew.
Ooh, incentive!
D's solved
go, ajv!!
FM...what is a Catherine Wheel? A cookie? c-o-o-k-i-e-s.... better than shiny...
Rock on, ajv!
yumyumyumyum
Catherine wheel is a round firework you nail loosely to a post and it spins and is sooo pretty when lit
**pouts** I wanted cookies.
ummm D's d's , what do we have for d's? Rummages though boxes and containers......
How about donuts for the Ds?
ah, ok, thanks . . . sparklers are pretty much it for me . . .
anyone have the last co 6/27?
Delicious Dunkin' Donuts
FMitch...every DU word, except the first one, starts with the same three letters
catherine wheels are loooovely
btw, ty Une
how alliterative
co6/27 plural of co5/16

52 left, need another break, bbs
oh wait
nm
Later, peri...
Bye peri
ugh... pass me the fish
bye, peri
**sprinkling minnows over Sean's head**
eeeewwww
You ask. I live to serve.
dried minnows
:P
eeewwww crispy minnows?
reminds me of fried fresh sardines in Nice . . .
Hmmmm... sounds lovely...with a buttered cracker...stone ground wheat perhaps...?
yep!
Oh yes actually, or whitebait. Oh could get peckish now.
L's just circled the drain and washed right down!
Bravissima, Une!! Applauding madly now...
followed by the e's . . .
still shoving the c's down here...
:-D
artlady LOL!
**hands Artlady a stick of dynamite**
the c's and s's added together = a 1/3 of the entire grid
E's completed.
U's just did a high kick out the door . . .
Yikes, still 17 c's to go!
I'm sure you really wanted to know that!
yay, ajv!
Wow, very limber, Une!
Thanks, FMitch...now I'm terribly depressed... I give Une a 9 1/2 for form and creativity!
LOL!
dammit, just found a little e hiding under the mousepad
those critters are so sneaky, Une... I use a flyswatter to nail 'em!
hah, got 'im!!
Im sorry Scarlet, I am fighting the urge to create a barchart (only joking btw) really, honest!
in 3D please, fmitch!
**Now I am laughing with a sore stomach from all the silliness, FM!**
LOL powerpoint presentation perchance? *sits down quietly*
oh, man, wow us, fmitch!
**Waits attentively for Ms. FM to continue**
Tsk tsk, how easily you are swayed from the wonder of the grid! Sally forth, the hunt for words is still afoot
oh my, I've done about 15 words in the last few hours
35 to go -- taking a break
It's shiny, FM... LOL
.... the hunt for words is still afoot? Did I write that! Anyone seen my meds???
LOL, Ata... I still have 66 and the garden is issuing its siren call again...
could you trim my roses while you're out, Scarlet?
You've been reading too much Sherlock HOlmes, FM... **hands lovely lady a bottle of GOOD pills**
finally done with the c's!
Sure, art... just point me in the right direction...
Yahoo for Sean!
Well, take 40 to 65 north...
Thank you kind Scarlet, I shall take my pills and retire before total gibberish take over. It has been a pleasure and I bid you all Happy Babbling and TTFN.
then 94 west...
*hugs fm*
Ciao, FM
Oh, art... you're in Chicagoland! I love the Cubbies!
G's and i's completed.
Yipppeee!! (That's for my Cubbies)
goodnite FM, sweet dreams
Until another day, FMitch... be well, and it was terrific to see you again.
Great, artlady! I was a tad reluctant because you might have been a Southie and Ozzie makes me a little crazy... some of the guys are real ballplayers though.
I like the Sox ok...Was very happy the year they won the Series (cheered them on with MamaBear)...but the Cubs are #1..even when they're last!
drat these cu's!
I was so heartbroken when Lou and the guys had the last-minute meltdown at the end of the regular season last year... I celebrated the Sox' victory too, art... Love those Cubbies!
My students ask me to turn the radio on in class when there's a game on...in an art room I can do it... ;-)
Okay... off to the gardens. **Rhetorical question: Why does common sense overrule goofing off with Babble?** You are the best, artlady! Why didn't I have teachers like you way back when?? )

Don't you usually come on at the flip, jilli?
se 5/14, 6/24 combo?
yes, scarlet, but then I have to go to bed and today I didn't have any time until now
Jilli - is it nasty hot at your place or do you have ocean breeze?
april look at sa same combo
April, it's a type of cloth (or sewing machine) and plural
Were you out celebrating your country's birthday, jilli?
autumn, it's just lovely here today, not as hot as the past few -- but then I love the heat
rhymes wiht the ur 5/16, if you h ave it
thanks artlady, I should have known that! (looking at mine now)
Autumn, your bio is hilarious! And true...LOL
my pleasure, April
last sc 6 (last sc)
and, unconsciously, provides a clue for the se5/14 by using the RCMP red se***
sc--- plural of frighten
sc--- plural of frighten
***boo!!**
thanks!
no, scarlet, just gardening -- I did hang a little flag out, though.
sa 6/18?
I always fly the flay on the Fourth of July, jilli... and on Veteran's Day, November 11th.
sa6-- alternate spelling of karate teacher
Just a small one... but I love my crazy-quilt country...
I love your couontry too -- it sheltered me from WW2
I didn't know that, jilli... what happened that you needed protection?
thanks pug!
yw
thank you - good clue pug
my mother and I were in England when the war got serious == her family was in NYC and invited us over -- strings were pulled to get us alien resident status.
Oh, jilli... I had no idea... that may have saved your lives. What did your mother think of Churchill's wartime planning?
my father was interned in Hong Kong and eventually went to NY where he lived until 1966.
I think she idolised Churchill and FDR as did all of us
What a family history, jilli. Was your father there in Hong Kong until the end of the war.
So many folks thought highly of the two leaders... it's hard for me to think otherwise, since I was born at the end of WWII.
yes, scarlet, and for a while afterwards. I didn't see him for almost 10 years, but after the war we wrote lots of letters -- particularly he did -- every Sunday.
no more s's, yay!
na 5/10
What a childhood you had, jilli... you grew up with the barest memories... kept alive by his love in letters... I have tears in my eyes...
My mother joined him in 1946. I was a McGill then.
What happened to your care then, jilli?
na5--na+ ***t your head on a pillow
thanks pug
He wrote some "exercises in metrical prose" while he was imprisoned and they are such a revelation as to his thoughts.
What a mind and heart... why was he imprisoned? What was his crime against society? Was it genetic?
I stayed with my aunt in NY, but had become engaged to my future hubby and we were married the next year. I had been given $600 and a choice -- use it to go to China or use it for the wedding if I hadn't changed my mind. We didn't go in for elaborate weddings in those post-war days!
LOL, jilli... have you written this story down for the future generations?
scarlet -- it was wartime -- he and all "enemy civilians" were interned by the Japanese.
1
Oh, dear God, jilli... and this country that I love, interned all Japanese/Americans... the story is horrific...
I've written some of it but the grandkids (now 23 and 29) are not interested.
Jilli, they may be some day.
you write it out, Jilli and I will read it...
They will be some day, I hope, jilli...I would be honored to read this. I already am so touched by a few simple words now...
Canada interned Japanese-Canadians too, but has since apologised and offered some compensation. No such thing the other way round.
same here, autumn . . . Jilli has some amazing family stories . . .
didn't realize that about Canadian internment, jilli
The two countries believed that they were doing the right thing... the U.S.A. also formally apologized, but I don't recall any compensation.
after Hiroshima they probably don't feel they need to apologize for anything
My aunt attended the "service" in Ottawa, as my grandfather's oldest surviving heir, to receive the formal apology. It wasn't just the japanese/canadians, it was anyone oriental.
Congress issued a formal apology in 1988 and offered $20,000 apiece in compensation to the survivors of the camps, who lost their freedom and property without any formal legal proceedings.
pug, I believe there has been some compensation recently but those that received it chose to put it into an educational endowment (and museum I believe) about the US internment experience.
I think it was Harry S Truman's darkest hour...
Scarlet that was
Thank you for the bullet-fast research, Une... or did you have that on the tip of your brain?
Googling R Us
Oh, April... and our children will have no idea about this in just a few years...
:-D Une the Wonder Babbler!!
ANd that is the very sad truth, Scarlet
Hah! :-D
that is why the educational endowment was established. So it isn't brushed under the rug.
On another note...done...off to anniversary dinner with our son! G'luck all!
What I put into slim books for them were letters from my father when we were apart at various stages. I only have a couple of copies left. Thanks to Microsoft, I'm not sure I can reproduce them properly because they were done on MS Publisher using Windows 98. When I got a new computer using XP I could no longer open those files. It's a long story (actually, Babble-connected) but there was a guy in England I didn't know who offered to have me send him the files, which he would open on his kids' 98 and then he knew how to convert them and send them back, usable on XP. But some fonts were changed and I haven't tried printing them yet.
bye art
Congrats, artlady... and happy anniversary for 30 years of marriage!! Be well.
Scarlet, you're right -- even my daughter, who is extremely well informed and very bright, can hardly believe I was alive during the Jim Crow days . . .
du 6/24, 7/36 combo?
it just doesn't seem real to her
du6/24 - Indian rugs.
for anyone who is interested.... http://www.yesnet.yk.ca/schools/projec ts/canadianhistory/camps/internment1.h tml Several orientals were interred until proof of heritage was provided.
my daughter was horrified to learn we had to wear dresses , even in winter to school till i was in 2nd grade!
It doesn't seem real to me that I am 38 and when I was a kid my mom was the first female in her company to buy a house without a male signature. Her eventual husband was, however, able to sell the house without her knowing it while we were away on vacation.
I was walking down the street of Boloxi, MS in 1962 and what I saw and heard scarred my heart and mind forever, Une... and our children can't quite wrap themselves around the horror, the ugliness and the flat-out unfairness of the treatment I saw, first-hand.
and we couldn't wear pants on my college campus till my senior year!
the kids take it all for granted
We just didn't wear anything but skirts, unless we were going skiing.
help with co words - last 4 - a 5, 2 6's and a 7
Jilli... if you ever get this straightened out, I will gladly buy your book when it is done... I would love to read it.
co4/7 - teeth on a gear
we wore wooly 'snuggies" under our skirts in the winter. Never occurred to us to wear slacks.
co5---- insert a cons. into middle of silver change
then build from that
April that is awful... how did your mother cope with such a dirty-dog deal?
Thanks, scarlet. It would be a big job, and I'm running out of time!
Jilli... you never know what our dealt hand will be... you can get it done! :-)
Hi all
HI, turqaz~
hi turq
my memory is a horrible one...I remember her ripping the front door off the house, and beating him on the chest (I was 8 or 9) and she still stayed with him, we moved to a small town in another state and lived in a series of trailers and motels for a long time until we could find a house.
Hey, turqaz
life was very unfair to women then
he ended up going to prison (later, after their divorce) for fraud. He was a used car salesperson.
just dropping in. after yesterday, I'm taking a break, especially considering the greater size of today's grid

Have fun, Jill! What is the water temp?
yesterday was 68F, but the top layer was warmer. The sea here is like a lake -- very calm.

Well, I had sneakers that were red when i was 5. Probably shouldnt have worn the otehr things...then.

My Grandma said that only women of the night wear red shoes. And the reason girls today don't see how bad their butts are and how short their skirts are is there is no seamed stockings to straighten
Cross Ask him what do you want
mmmmm seamed stockings.....
Where are you located, cross?
I like how my mom dealt with allowance. "Here is lunch money for school. Want more? Do more around house and you will be paid accordingly."
cough..im alright now
Herin, your grandma may be on to something. I saw a woman today and I just wanted to ask her why why why was she wearing that outfit, so unflattering to her.
**making cross behave himself**
*throws cold water on Cross*
I always liked seamed stockings, but they do give one such a reputation.

clues for any of the co words (except the co4) are welcome at any time
Red my Grandma could make me blush at times. There was a group of school girls on her bus and she used to tell me 'Oh there skirts were so short that you could see what they had for breakfast'
Cross - it was the red shoes in combination with the seamed stockings, wasn't it????
I have purple seamed tights. Think The Phantom purple
i always thought it was the fishnet stockings that were for hussies
ya know, I think I will start to work out. That way when I look good and ignore the "hot chicks" because they look like (insert word of choice here) they might figure something out. But I doubt it would work like that, so thats why I dont work out.
lol Herin !!
no,it was the stockings i9n combination with fixing a strap on them 3 inch heels;)
Yes Red some people haven't got a clue sometimes.
crosshair seems to be having trouble typing...

I dont believe in antidepressants. but then I fall into that category of people who become more suicidal on them.

I dont know what I want to come back as.....
I want to come back as a bird so i can soar with the wind and crap on those that crapped on me

good night pyro and aussie!
I'm not going yet Red !
Oops Aussie...
how's work going, red?
It has been good, yesterday was horrible, but that was a rare once every 8 yr moment.
hahahha. The NSW idiots have brought in a thou shalt not cause nuisance with a $5 000 fine if you do so. Now i want to go there and be a pest
How about you Deain??
Red did he survive?
well. tonight i began drafting the letter that CUstoms wants to grant me the rest of my clearance
wish me luck, yall
He went to the ICU herin, but, its unclear if he will survive, or if he will survive but be in a persistent coma.
Night DC and best luck
Yaaay Seain!!!!
Has anyone seen Phaeton today ?
Wow Red that is not good
great luck DC!
oh, i'm determined to finish the grid yet, lady :)
o aussie, I've been on and off, but not phaeton.
**sending good luck wishes to Seain across the miles**
what letter is that dc???
Well, Herin, he was very old and had 2 types of Cancer. People can not live forever.
NUTSTAR hugs
:0(, does anyone know how her granddaughter Emily is ??
{{Nutter Butter}}
Oh ok. That is still sad though
nutty, they want an explanation of 4 items in my credit report, and the circumstances of leaving 2 jobs.
AUssie i haven't been about so i have no idea what is happening
It is sad, just a little nutty as well....
Dan are you still here?
aha...a word of advice if i may dc, as one who reads those letters....
yes, nut?
don't over explain, just give the situation, and show whatever proof...none of the i was young and dumb stuff
right. i grew tons from the one experience, but i figure they don't care about that, just that what i say matches near enough to what they saw in the personnell file
those phrases don't really get much consideration, your letters of recommendation carry the weight
Oh Dear..... Phaetons Granddaughter Emily was run down by a car Herin..... She had a fractured skull for sure, but I havent seen Phae for an update on her condition
No DR...I'm finding words
very good dc! you'll make some case closer a very happy person
Oh How horrible! Please send best wishes to her.
I will if I see her on here !
OH poor love. How horrid. Thinking of her and them
here's hoping they find in my favor :/ i'm a bit anxious about it
Worst part is, her Granddaughter lives in Japan, and Phae was told by email !
I was just checking
{{Seain}} Fingers crossed and good wishes for you !!
oh, like franmag and her sister. :/ how awful.
is that the only derog stuff you have? i don't work as much with the customs stuff. i can probably give you an idea.
whatcha got left dR?
Dc if you did nothing illegal would there be an issue?
133 words
some judgements, 2 of which are fulfilled, and i'm cunsulting counsel to get them closed, one was paid 5 years ago. nothing illegal, just one really foolhardy thing 3 jobs ago.
and yes, nut, that's all.
61 here
Hi Herin and DC and Nut andAussie and lurkers
Hey Dr !!
Hi DR
evening, dr!
too many to mention left in the grid here !
were these on your report from your last clearance?
Go Dan!
How is everyone tonight?
i mean is there anything new since your last clearance?
I am fine, tired but fine !
a year ago, they gave me my level 1, this is the final adjudication for my Full BI, then i'm good for 5 years, nut.
I can relate to tired.
ur up late, aussie, sleepless?
Tired
clue for sa6,18 please?
my guess is if they were all there when you got your level one and there is nothing new, then you'll probs get your clearance with a letter of caution
Seain, if it distracts you from anxiety, I had the lucky surprise to see and photograph three huge Sandhill cranes today that were wandering in the filed 20 feet from my apartment....
I suppose I am over excited about it.
A karate teacher Monkey
a letter of caution? Meaning get it fixed, and stay out of trouble?
monkey...since eieios left, we are sa6/18 (without ei)
oh TY DR and dan
oh, how lovely, red :)
that's what i notice a lot of, but then, i don't adjudicate, i look at old stuff
No Seain, I work till midnight, so I havent been to bed yet !
They really make some odd noises.
ok, i'm off to bed, i'm really strangely tired tonight
oh, that makes sense aussie.
GNight Nutty!
and that's good to know, nut. ty very much for the advice
Night Nutty, hope you are feeling OK.
sleep well, nut :)
Night Nutty
need ar 5 clues for both please.
g'nite nut!
night night Nutter Butter, sleep sweet xx
one other thing dc, you should always request a copy of your investigation, it makes the next one easier to do. helps you keep your facts straight.
oh, ty, nut :D that makes sense
ar + say a bad word
they sent me what they have so far, highlighted where they want info, but yes, final would be good.
NUTTY! sweet dreams!
ar + 2 vowels + curved letter

Hi TO.
Hello, all!
Hi art! Haven't seen yu in absolutely ages! How are you?
Hello artlady! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Just trying to upload some flickr photos, but they don't show up here. Isn't this a lovely grid?
I haven't played since last summer...until yesterday. Two BIG puzzles to get me back in the groove. I hope you are all well!
art - I thought this grid was a breeze when I did it in the UK morning. Others may not agree with us.
hi art! jacs, just think - if the chap had been faster,i'd be calling you jac-san
hi artlady i do remember you. welcome home
any clues for the sa6/18-right before the army rank, please?

awed
I had a TOTAL panic attack this afternoon when I realized I couldn't find my passport (Tom had it on his desk) OR the kid's birth certificate, items without which we cannot go to Canada in two days....
Stid - the grid takes about 2 hours. What time is it where you are?
Then Tom came home and found everything in about five minutes.
Hi stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
I don't have time Jac -- have to study math. Spent four hours taking kid to a doc this afternoon.
*waving Canada flag* yippee!!! neighbor to the north birthday!
Stid - best not beginthe grid then, except perhaps on paper.

I love kiwis and strawberries, too, stid.
aca7 almost like dr suess: bird says tweet tweet; ca* **** beep beep
72 TO that's stuff you carry and plural form
I am trying to get ahead a couple days' worth so I can spend my travel time Thursday just enjoying the scenery.
Is the maths stuff to do with your kids' homework, teaching, or the writers in schools thing, stid?
speaking of kiwis, is our own dear kiwi-type doing okay? {{{{hugs to groovy one}}}}
la 5/10 before size bigger than medium?
good question Jac. A bit of all, it's a class titled "Math for Elementary Teachers" and it's my first college-level class in close to 20 years, a pre-requisite for getting into the teacher training program I want to start in autumn 2009.
Think so, stid. She was here earlier when I looked in but didn't log in.
ty jon
l + god of war

*clatter, clatter, clatter, damn!, oops!, typie, typie, typie, clunk. LOL*
Stid - know what you mean! Good luck to you.
Hi Kiwi.
the piece of paper really is meaningless stid.. experience is much better predictor of teaching ability
yes, though I have to admit, I am LOVING getting some formal theory to supplement and enlighten...
Yes, Dorens. But, to get an interview in the first place, the piece of paper is often required.
i know, it is, but sometimes it really is meaningless. trust me, i've seen so many nincompoops who have int
Well, I am off. Congrats to the finishers and good luck to those still *looking*. Ni-night
yes, and one of the reasons, Dorens, that I am going in to teaching now is that I think kids can benefit from my style...
later autumn! be well!
...And. these days, it is often a piece of common and flimsy A4 printed off a computer. Not the nice parchment certificates with a proper seal on that we used to get for all the hard work for passing exams of any kind.
and I shall head out to study now... got 55 words.
hey jac :) = im sorta here playing and sorta at work working so if i dont respond straight away its because im looking pretty lol
