I saw the chat about the Olympic Rings. Back inthe 70s, when it was fashionable to sew embroidered motifs to your jeans and tee shirts, I got one of the Olympic Rings and sewed it in the middle of the chest part of my red tee shirt... when I put the shirt on the rings stretched across my cleavage. My Dad laughed and christened the motif 'The Olympic Eggs'. Even though Dad's gone now, they're still the Olympic Eggs in our family... and all due to my bosoms.:-D

another wonderful spot is Frangokastello.. along the south. great beach.
Orange - there was heartbreak and isolation on the island, for sure, but, in the end, it was a far better life, with a village, a cinema, dances, etc., than the life on the mainland, which was living in a beach cave and hoping your family left food in a basket some way away and that no one stole it before ou got to it, and not seeing your family.
I certainly enjoyed jac's Crete creation :)
Spinalonga offered so much more. Some people were cured and left the island. Others did not. But it wasn't a sad place.
another good book (also i movie i hear) is Fugitive Pieces. not sure the author

In-Laws are off to Turkey later this year, after having just returned from their 4th visit to Crete.
i've heard of that happening trying to enter arab countries with an israeli stamp, but not greece/turkey

In-laws don't ntend to return to Crete again, because all they've ever done is go to Stalis and move up and down the main street.
Turkey isn't really high on my list of must visit places.

there is a theme everyday, goodwick. You can go google, find an icon that fits the theme and if you like, put some info in your profile about it. It is a lovely way to get to know things you'd never knew.
a while ago we all changed our icons to bananas for some unknown reason. it was so much fun that it turned into the practice of having a different theme every day
