it's especially hard because only one sibling lives in the same state as Dad & she's not too together now as her Hubby died suddenly end of Jan.
and she is in the midst of moving to boot!
That would be hard, pug. I lived in the same town as my folks when they grew older...
I think its a great idea too Pug. Usually the quality of life is much improved and an aging parent is too much of a burden for even a number of 'children', the emotions get in the way all the time. I left it too late with my father and really regret that he wasnt in a place that could look after his creature comforts
well Dad is rather pragmatic & I don't think adverse to the idea,but his wife is the problem although I feel its getting where there is really no choice & my eldest Sis has enlisted the help of her son as we may have to push the issue in unison
My mother actually chose a place that isn't too close to any of my syblongs. But it suited her in terms of company and atmosphere and she is happy. It is hard that she is an hour away from both my sisters but ultimately a good thing because she is not a burden to anyone this way.
step moms son told my sis there are several nice facilities right in the city they live in & feels it wouldn't be too hard to get them into one of them

she just doesn't want to leave her house of god knows how many decades
I don't know the full situation, but is part-time in-home care an option at this point?

A lot of places today offer private apartments connected to the available services. My mom is a place like that. There are a number of couples in which one party is healthier than the other. Maybe you can show his wife that it's to her benefit as well since all the care doesn't fall only on her.
