My father was a classic. When I rang the bell, I would hear my mother (who had a hearing aid), saying :there's someone at the door" and my father saying, "I can't hear anything" - but he insisted he didn't need a hearing aid, it was my mother who couldn't hear.
lol. Fortunately, the dogs bark loudly enough that he can't ignore the bell, even if he doesn't hear it!
I was at my parents at an unusual time one day, and the alarm on the little clock in the sitting room went off. My father was very surprised when I took it down and turned it off, and said it had never gone off before. In fact it had probably gone off every day at that time, he just hadn't heard it!
sometimes the clock next to HIS side of of the bed goes off (dusting changed the switch or something) and he doesn't hear it at all. And it is very loud!

yes indeed! in our two emergency room experiences, yes. The other time I had a fractured sternum and they made me wait hours to see the x-ray. When I complained, the doctor said, "What do you think, this is a supermarket?"
I pulled out my own IV and my husband carried me to a taxi and we escaped

but the EMT's are wonderful and when he had the heart attack in the middle of the night, cariac ICU was also wonderful

i am with sky, theirs was the cheapest package and i am tied to them for another month, then i am gone
Soddle we did that when we moved flicked off the home phone and had portable pay by month broadband until a very good internet package happened
Between Skype, MSN and texting, my kids don't even miss the house phone. And your right, Herin, if a good offer comes along, grab it.
We got 120 gig or some such thing for $50 and my mobile is $100 for everything. B.fs phone is same company so it is free minutes to talk to him.

aside from us, I think that dog is a major public threat! If he got a child, he could easily kill it. I think my husband is VERY lucky.
daykat, I bored the chat with this drama for two days. Husbnad was attacked and severly bitten by a "beauceron", a cross between a shepherd and a doberman but now a recognized breed. Husband is old and has a bad heart and lost consciousness 3 times at the hospital so they admitted him which was lucky since his wound hemmorhaged during the night

The dog really needs to be destroyed but I think the chances of finding it are very small. I've told as many people as I could so far, the postman, the pharmacist, neighbors, etc.

when I 'hear' you speak in chog, you often sound a bit like you are used to being the victim. If those police men are macho men, they can react to that 'tone' with treating you like dirt. If you can, try to be polite but not friendly, and very strong on your demands.
I do not mean this as criticism, it is just a little bit of personal experience.
I'm afraid I sound like more of a victim in the chog, than I really am. I just lost it a couple of times when husband was physically threatening, but I am really a tough (if very small) woman, having working in a totally male world for years

I am just amazed that they have police coverage in a rural area on a Sunday. The police station where I used to live only opened 9 - 5.30 5 days a week and after that they had to come from miles away if there was a problem.

It seems my area is a great passing through point on the way to the coast. Sometimes we get 30
+ bikers coming through the village but they are marshalled and it is great to see some of the harleys and old bikes.
oh yes, they are beautiful. Just very dangerous to ride if you aren't careful. Which most bikers just are not.

Scrabbler, I'd left the cake in the base of the cake pan, sitting on the platter. He's so clumsy - tripped and the whole thing slid off. The family exploded with laughter while my beautiful chocky stuff dripped down the walls, puddled on the carpet etc. I was not nearly as amused as everyone else!

in a couple weeks the non-native blackberries will be ripe here. We'll get a couple gallons just from the vines along the driveway. We freeze a lot of those and use them for cooking in the winter.

Jellen, sometimes I have (and Mother does) mix up cookie dough and store it in the freezer until I have time to actually bake...
I avoid the kitchen as much as possible, stid...
if you do a sugar cookie, or a rolled cookie of some type, then you can pre-roll it, store the "log" in plastic wrap and just slice it when you are ready to bake, no rolling or mucking around with measuring the spoons out.
you're lucky, I can not be trusted with cookie anything in the house ..
oh. well, that's okay. some people have to be the enjoyers of others' cooking!

that depends on how you cool the food. there are excellent guidelines for people with normal immune systems online. for people undergoing chemo and with compromised immune systems reheating is not generally recommended.
