off to bet with jim qwilleran
nite all
nite sammysmom
tonight we heard that hurricane Earl had hit our favorite vacation spot in the Outer Banks at 70 to 75 mph... my hubby and I were there 2 years ago at this same time of the year when a "noreasterner" hit....
night s'mom (who is jim qwilleran?)
I hear Earl fizzled to a Tropical Storm, not a hurricane
He says tonight, "Did you realize that the winds were 80 mph when we were there?" I said, "YES! That is why I was scared half to death and could have strangled you because you slept through it!" Scared me to death!
jim quilleran is a book, Jilli
When we stood in the bathroom, the wind was so strong, the water in the toilet moved....freaky...
oo -- earthquake, Christchurch, NZ!
thanks, bugs, duh to me.
big one too...over 7.0
when did the earthquake hit?

Throughout history, there have been many songs written about the eternal triangle. This next one tells the story of a Mr. Grayson, a beautiful woman and a condemned man named Tom Do..... When the sun rises tomorrow, Tom Do.... must hang.

hi Enigma
Well, where's your flag?
I'm here, Kaplan.
hey, sprite
Hi. I'm gonna take a pill and go back to bed.

hope it helps, Kaplan, sleep well
I am not a flag waver myself. Ssssh. I don't think there should be any countries because then we would have no one to go to go to w.ar with
I know that's as simple as John Lennon, but why not?
I could live with that.

It is cold and crappy and I have cranky pants on

I am watching this vet on tv I want to smack him
Afternoon, not cold Infernal - just wet
smack a pillow until you are real tired, hun
hi lyn! xxx
Anyone remember where Kiwi lived, aside from South Island?
It is Lynxx
hi Spritey. How was your husbands sleep over!?
new sealand is all i know, sorry
Sprite it is just one of those things that annoy me. Like the dog is anxious about going for walks give him anti anxiety pills instead of positive reinforcement.
There was a sizeable earthquake in Christchurch last night, just hoping you missed it
you! Groovy I mean
went pretty well. He thinks he slept most of the night, so they should have enough data. He showered twice to get rid of the glue!
Groovy is in the Top end she and hers is fine
terrfic, thanks Infernal
You know the first island at the bottom?
am glad, lady. *hugs Kiwi*
I only know the North and South Islands
up Top island is her bottom island was earthquake
that is so stupid, lady. Not much dogs won't do for positive enforcement as in treats and cuddles.
Seriously my cat gets it. You put her harness on she goes outside for a play then straight inside to her food bowl. Also the thing is he should have vet checked the dog to see if there was a throat issue and if not then gone a harness. Start with harness on treats and play then play then lead then play and treats and so on
Found her in Rankings, she is in Wellington - at the bottom of the North Island
you got it, lady.
Good morning/evening all.
lyn, that is the safe part right now, right?
morning Haz
morning Haz
Hello!
Yes Sprite, earthquake was half way down the South Island
am very sorry for the people on South, but glad Kiwi should be okay.
HI Haz
ki5.22 - cute that it took
new word for me: og6
what are the points on that word Sprite?
og6/30
TY
I will confess that is one sweet K word ;)
Sprite I tried that and ti just didn't work
Morning/evening all.
HI FM
Good morning, FM.
morning FM
hi FM :)
Hello hello, and the sun is shining :)
how odd, lady?
Did it again it worked
Its pouring down here - flooding all over the place - good for dams though!
ah go4 :)
was delighted that the k5 was accepted by enable, didn't think it would.
a group of 8 - who knew - TY Sprite
*passes wellington boots and umbrella to lynxxx*
yvw lyn, it is a nice word, isn't it. Will try and remember it.
Lynxx I noticed that Falls Creek had 59 mill all day
it can also mean the number itself, lyn.
we are OK here - you wouldn't want to be up the country without wellies and a boat though!
good morning everybody
Morning ruby.
hi Ruby
it is either wellies or a boat, lol. If the boat twists, wellies will keep you under.
morning rubyfoo
A fun selection of words in the grid so far today.
I'll remember that
HI Ruby
And Fm heads to the PB...
Screw the wellies you need gators
*grin* I have restocked the pb. It will have many visitors today.
*le sigh* hadn't got to the g's
lolll lady
poor FM, cant take a tr***
Gs are go4 today. Some very nice finds.
Poor buggers up by the border are flooded
I've just been pecking at words out of order today
jumping in, tired already and it's only 10AM! Saw the mayor this AM, preparatory to the meeting with the "procurer" and judge. She found me the name of a good lawyer!
what a rebel FM has turned into
welcome to the free spirits, FM
I worry abut her, lynxxx. Next thing she'll be giving three letter clues.
Is this going to cost you Ruby or will they have to wear the costs?
The Mayor works on a Saturday, that has to be g4
hopefully, they'll have to pay for the lawyer.
it is taking a lot of energy, isn't it rubyfoo.
BBS need to check cake is done (yum yum)
she came in, along with the local policeman, just for the appointment. She is not full-time, though, as this is a very small village
I can always get the hockey sticks and snakes out of the cupboard to aid the clues if you want?
I am worn down by this
It's funny, we don't seem to have the same trouble with snakes and things any more.
Hang in there ruby.
Hugs ruby
thank you both; DH was the injured one, but you can imagine what the rest is like! Now I have to gather "written" testyimony from all the witnesses
Would not the police have done that?
Haz question
Okay?
no. They got our testimony for the formal complaint and found the dog (no small matter, that), but that is all they can do. And the dog is home now :(
Is there such thing as a non alergic dog?
mexican nude dog?
Haz is always questionable ;)
highly :D
Perhaps you can ask for a police escort to protect you from the dog whilst you traipse around getting testimonials - how ridiculous!
I think hairless chihuaha! eeew
not the Xolotl or Hairless things
and the dog must be muzzled and only walked at certain hours. Who is going to enforce that?
People tend to be allergic to the dander, rather than the hair, I think. Some breeds are more easily lived with than others.
that is up to the police... I'd ask all the supportive people in your village to call the police every time the dog is seen without muzzle or at a wrong time.
The good thing is that probably everyone in the village will 'police' that
I think I'll have to go door-to-door!
the owner of the dog wouldn't look at the photos when the police went there
Thanks Haz
Screw muzzling the dog the owner should be muzzled too
Just found a Japanese form of self defence - think I will let the monkeys finish the g4 for me today.
it is almost impossible to convince a person of a truth he or she does not want to acknowledge, rubyfoo. My favorite option would be to chain the owner to the dog.
permanently when outdoors.
Is all France like your village Ruby. There appears to be some very odd attitudes
it is the one my children and I practice, lyn :D
I don't have enough experience to say, but the dog is classed as a "2" on a scale of 1 - 4, 4 being the most dangerous
2 = eats human flesh. Wow - wonder what 4 does?
aaaarghhh!
probably because it was a 'first offence'. If it should attack again, it would 'upgrade' to 4. Awful.
4 = shoots to maim, then eat?
and the woman adopted it when it was 7!
Any dog that does that damage here would get a one way trip to the vet
in the US, too!
yep, the laws here are very different too
Or the dog would be locked up and not allowed out with a special collar and identification.
I feel sick, but am trying not to show husband how upset I am
There's no point in saying what might happen elsewhere. It's France, you have to go by French laws.
How long is it since it happened - a month?
I have fireworks... bye all, have fun with the gr4.
yes, 4 or 5 weeks, 30 July
Bye, sprite.
you are so smart, sprite!!!
Stay strong Ruby. At least you will meet the neighbours and find out how much support you have
Bye Sprite
Bye Spritey, Congrats!
Congrats and bye spritey.
so far, they've been very nice and have come forward freely
Ruby how is MR and Mrs Dog owner treated in town?
I don't know as, since the town has no shopping to speak of, we never see them except the man accosted husband yesterday when he was walking our dog in front of our house (he lives on a parallel street!)
hmmph
Good morning all....
Hi Cait
Hello, caitlyn.
hello caitlyn
hi Caitlyn
half!
I wanted a bigger gr4/7 today as I have been up early and done the housework it will be a long day!
It's a bit of a shame when you've mentally prepared yourself for a day of babbling and the gr4/7 lets you down.
Hey cait!
Well, I suppose I've got no excuse not to be getting on with other things so I'll bid farewell. Bye for now!
((((FM))))
bye haz!
*gone*
bye Haz
Bye Haz see you soon
Sorry am in the middle of drafting a very pointed email to a British Gas meter replacement co.
awe bye HAz!
how pointed?
phone back in a moment
uh oh, upstairs stomping! not my pups, either.....
*poof*
they expect me to be in for a 12 hour period even though the meter is outside the main property.
so, 12 hours @ - what was your hourly rate again?
and British Gas are running an ad campaign at the mo saying you call us/can't get through we will call you back - like heck. tried twice and still waiting. *rant over*
lol exactly lynxxx, don't think I haven't thought about that.
Anyhoo - guess I had better get on with the day but shall return later. Happy Babbling all.
bye FM, enjoy the sunshine
Sorry Fm my phone keeps ringing, see you later
Enjoy FM

Hello
Hi Herin!
back in a mo . . .
HERRRIN!
hi herin
hi jmc, herin, trif, car.
Hello
Hi JMC! Hi Annie!
hey there JMC!
Waves hello rapidly
and annie!
what a relentlessly cheerful crowd!
Good morning/day Babblers!
Scrabs!
scrabbler's here -- party has now officially started
hi Scrabbs
hi scrabs
morning, tea anyone?
I will be leaving for Ithaca soon, to meet my New Jersey sister for 3 days of hiking, kayaking, Scrabble + laughing. I will meet Feather, Daniel + Nick there on Monday.
yay!!!
hey car -- guess what was on cable last night? (think of our 80s child hood....)
There she is!
hi feather
Weird Science?
the only sad thing is we won't be able to play scrabble together, unless we use your duct tape and bungee cords on the kids....
hi feather!
better....
How great Scrabs!
What is better than WS?
boogle games are small and packable
Feather, let's lock them in the car with toys.
Xanadu....and I still can quote the whole thing.
OMG!!!!!!!!!
Except they would know how to get out.
k, and enough food/drinks to last a few hours, right?
lol
not if you duct tape them first
good point jmc
I have Travel Scrabble--has been used in many cities, planes + airports.
i am always available for practical parenting tips
JMC, could you be cajoled into doing field visits, a la Supernanny?
Well, we can at least recite Babblets while hiking with the boys--for practice.
Scrabbler what ddid you end up doing today?
Will help split the travel costs with you Trif!!!
lol sure but you have to sign a release not to turn me into the police
i learned a new one...jiao
Only if you will sign the same for me, dear one!
lol
Feather run the kids ragged. They will love Aunty Scrabbler
I mountain biked yesterday on the trail in the woods--6.2 mi in 45 minutes. But at mile 5 I became nauseated + weak--hypoglycemia--so sat on a log + ate an energy bar.
JMC could do the whole family!

jiao--good vowel dump
not kadresa children - remember they are perfect and without fault (did I just say that out loud?)
Tee Hee! Scrabs said "dump"!
i took the boys for a walk up the creek yesterday. i decided to cut from the creek to a trail, up a big hill. daniel was complaining the whole time and nick kept saying "i too yittle!"
Oh Feather! So cute!
I do feel like Daniel, Nick + other Babblers' kids + grandkids are MY kids to keep healthy + safe.
sounds like your attempts to lose them failed, feather...
Help with the second C word please....I have cu 4/6.
it was worth it at the top. i put pictures on FB
LOL!
Car, we do call it a "vowel dump" when our rack is filled with vowels. There are some clever words to play.
I know Scrabs! I was just being silly!
"I too yittle."--cute! I recall my nephews claiming that they suddenly had broken legs so that I would have to carry them.
Scrabbler that is good you got to go out
Car, I did not say "bowel dump."
over and over! to be honest, he was kind of little to get up the hill, but he made it.
ROFL!
I spend way too much time with little boys!
I am not ignoring car, I just can't find that word either...

I think that all cats can swim (even if they don't like it), but not chow chows!
yeah, of course cats can swim, they usually don't like to though!
snap, george
yup
Chows can't swim?
is it coz of their coats being so thick and heavy, holding too much water?
that's so funny m9, because my neighbour just told me that her husband set up a timed watering system for their window boxes while they were away and it went wrong and flooded their ce
there was a short film of a guy at a Y (I think), with a whistle around his neck, throwing cats into the pool.
we have 2 cats, one that love baths, and the other panics and voids from all orifices and needs therapy afterwards
when HeWho gets off other puter I can post a pic of invertebrate
awe cats can swim but they look so awful after an encounter with water.
I would never trust one of them, if I had window boxes (which I don't)!!

when my husband takes his bath in the morning.. he leaves the bathroom door ajar becuase he knows that if he falls asleep.. the cat will come and slap his face.
I have to go and serve dinner to DH and the dogs; I'm just having a (bad) meatloaf sandwich! eeew
that is so cute, m9!
I had a really bad meatloaf sammy once.
I once had a cat who was so dumb that he would walk through dog poop and had to be bathed often
my boss said his wife made THE BEST meatloaf.. on and on.. so I had half his sammy.
were you at my house? I don't remember!
eww.

what part of Canada are you in?
BC on the west coast. I live a couple of hours away from Jilli
oh yeah? cool!!
it is beautiful here
oh that's right, didn't she, yeah, she was talking about you the other night or so -- emailed you??
yeah, I've been to Vancouver!
years ago........
YEs George she did and I am sorry if there was any misunderstanding. I am not computer literate so I could get the instant messaging thing to work.
Many people came to Vancouver for the Olympics this year and lots came back this summer.
There is so much to see here if you like the beauty of the outdoors
check your email, Bugsaw!
what instant messaging thing?
ok going now
theres one out called trillian and it carries all msn, yahoo and aol. it is cool to have
ty George. danger never crossed my mind! LOL
How do I set up trillian Boobear?
you have to download it and follow directions
it is easy to do it
ha! blimey, that's really amazing, interesting info in your bio Bugsaw, about the nudibranches!!
I kept trying to follow the rules to set up an account on Yahoo and once it had all the info, it would revert back to the beginning again. I got WAY too frustrated. I will try Trillian.
oh yeah, well Trillian wouldn't be much good for me, coz I do a lot of photosharing on yahoo and msn messengers and you can't do any of that using Trillian!
I didn't know that was why they were so brightly coloured until I read that George.
do you have a yahoo account, Bugsaw?
oh yeah, I sent an invite to there!
No, it was Yahoo that didn't seem to want me
Jill and flosey are on there and other folk you know!
other babblers......
lots of people use it but they have more luck with computers than I do.
yeah that's amazing, Bugsaw -- does the nudibranch know it's doing that, is it purposeful or just happens to happen, if ya know what I mean!?
luck?
For instance last night I was playing Babble and got the two 7 letter words almost right away but the Word Stats said they were still missing. I had 48 word before it decided to record that I had found 2
This morning it is working fine.
I don't think nudibranches have brains. I think it is just another wonder of creation
I am not a marine biologist. Too much classifying of gross looking things
can someone tell me if the oi is a fish please?
I don't know Bugsaw
ok, I feel better for not seeing it then Boobear
I keep trying to put in soodle

clue for cu 5,14 pls?
song lyrics..."first cu* ** the deepest"
cu 5 cu4 and add a vowel before the snake letter
cu5 = to slice + most common english verb
thx... never wd have found it... how does that add up to 14?
"I was trying to use the "k"!
I had trouble with that too
my phamton is "idiot" - goes wel with yours Gwen
scoring system is like this: number of tile points time the number of letters in the word
this game makes me feel like that Chrissie
so, for example, a 5,14 word = one 3=pt tile [argle] or two 2-pt tiles [harsh]
didn't realize that, Gwen... thought it was just like scrabble
name for a bar no one would go to: The Drooling Idiot
this puzzle is so small but it takes forever to find words
ack, this is boggle, not scrabble!! LOL
never understood how to score on this site
sounds like the bar at the end of the night
i have a cheat sheet for myself because i can't do the scoring in my head
I think the scoring system is detailed in the help information lexo
or drooling ad 6
another example: 6,42 = one 6 and a 4 [vertex] or two 5s [weskit] or a 5, a 3, and two 2s [yeuked] or two 4s and two 2s [miffed]
now, boggle is really my game... I keep wanting to rotate the boards here
i find this grid much harder than average
not flowing here either Gwen

or served by monkeys
seems to me a money wouldn't fit
or a monkey. OY
go** night everybody
just found this googling: There are many stories of the origin of the term 'monkey dish', but none of them are verified. Here are a few of them: It is a bowl the size a monkey would use. It is a bowl that was originally made from a monkey's skull. It is a shallow bowl the size of a monkey's hand. Royalty once had small portions of their food fed to monkeys to be sure it wasn't poisoned. Bell hops wore caps similar to those worn by organ grinder monkeys. The bell hops became known as 'monkeys,' and the smaller dishes were used by these 'monkeys' to serve in-room guests. The list goes on.
nite ruby
just love the education to be had on this site! :)

yw - anyone else want clues before i poof out?
sometimes it's the baby words that kill me... clue for od 4,6?
OK then - Happy Babbling all - it's a tough grid but if you use Lickety you should get it done quickly.
I've found that my computer's security will not let me on The Babble-Dabble, because it is a malware threat. Has anyone else found this??
The od4,6 - describing the poem
what is Babble-Dabble Met?
thx once again, met... wasn't looking up for that one
It's a site that will list you all words with the clue letters and point amounts you enter. For ex - you put in od4, 6, click "show me the words", and it will list all possible answers for that clue. But it can harm your computer by going there now, so unless the guy who put it up fixes it, I wouldn't advise it.
oh, I use morewords, that seems to be quite safe
Can I get to morewords by googling it?
it's just morewords.com
www.morewords.com
Very cool - thanks for the tip
OK - now I'm leaving - happy babbling all -Le Poufe
bye Met

Hi
hello again.
bye Jellen and TO
hi everyone!
hey LBD
hey there, stiddy!
how was your week LBD? I am EXHAUSTED -- and the kids were only in the classroom two days!
stidkid is in the grid
and almost stidkidlet .. does that mean anything?
ruru ...PB
i'm a pooped ol' dawg, today. but otherwise the week went well. have overnights starting tomorrow.
hey ruru! LOL so they are!
overnights? forever why?
3 nights of graves, cuz we have a stock room that's overfull, and not enough hours or people to do the work during store hours.
hi ru, hi kalyn
that's too bad, LBD. Wish the owners could get enough day staff in.
it's corporate, and the gm is an idiot!
oh, I used to work for a large retailer like that. ((LBD)) sorry, what a bummer
i really don't mind the graves, it's extra pay, and it's only 3 nights. so, maybe we'll actually get caught up on getting out stock!
That would be nicE!
any plans for the weekend?
just writing lesson plans on an unfamiliar template... getting my wardrobe ready for the coming week, re-arranging my workspace in the living room, writing a paper and sleeping as much as possible. You?
nothing so exciting! lol just work.
oh. and Tom has approved my getting a BIG laptop to work on at home, since the netbook screen is no longer big enough for me to use now that I require really big magnification to see text.
oooh, nice!
not nice about needing more magnification, just nice to have a larger laptop. what are you going to get?
I had been hoping to use the financial aid in excess of tuition for the travel costs and a few meals out, but I think the computer is necessary. :-( I don't like having eyeball problems.
Tom has wanted a Macbook for some time, So I am getting a 15" macbook pro because I can get antiglare screen and it's big enough to see but still portable if I must. (I would like the Macbook Air, but it doesn't come with a big enough screen)
oh. And I am starting the process to get a disability determination through the college -- I need to have some help getting things read onto tape or pre-magnified if possible...
haven't played with a mac in ages!
Tom really likes the one he uses at work, apparently.
a mac or a big mac lbd?
either, ru
magnification should be easy enough, getting things on tape might be harder, depending on who is doing the talking.
*grrr, having fits with internet exploder tonight*
true. Problem is, even with magnification, I find that my eyes really can only handle reading;/computer tasks for about 4 hours a day, 5 if I push it (which causes headaches).
oh oh LBD... *hands bowl of calming ice cream*
well, you shouldn't be at your computer those long stretches of time! take short breaks after an hour, stiddy.
I do. I can't see close work at all after an hour... but each time I sit down to work, it's harder to make sense of the text. It's frustrating. Only a year ago I could read 8 hours straight...
but I can read faster when things are magnified, which makes better use of my eyeball time/
have you tried using the zoom on your pc?
I don't have a PC. I have a netbook! And yes, increasing the magnification works... to a point. scrolling back and forth too much makes me seasick. hence, the 15" screen I am getting.
yeah, that back and forth would get nauseating
Thing is, I am farsighted. So needing magnification is counter-intuitive. But it really helps.
rofl... I almost didn't see the AD 6! *NOT addicated... no no no!* (but who's in denial?)
TEN now...
go stiddy!!
is the AI 6 fishy?
not really. think martial arts
no
thanks LBD. got it.
you're awful quiet, ru
some fishies for me today, that's for sure!
oh! did someone forget to let you out of the PB? *opens door and puts a nice pinot noir nearby*
oh wait. you're not drinking ... *considers* *replaces wine with travel brochures*
Hi all, how are the Babblets tonight.
hey wht!

You can look it up, same as anyone can. ;)

Vraimant, Seain. ;)
I didn't have to though - I saw it there.
Well it's easy enough to look up, Pini. Try this site: http://babelfish.altavista.com/

heading out for late food with a friend in 45 or so
Have not seen yuo for an age
i've been scarce here
hello people
howdy GE
hi GE
howdy dc
hi ge
herinfernallady, methinks you are in a mischievous mood tossing in snags, bickies and thongs. Next it will be, perhaps, pusher/troller, nappy and/or rubber!
sorry, stroller
;)
Hey it is not my fault that everything us Aussies say sounds perverted (mmmm rubbery)
Good Evening Babblers
it is a good thing to add these words as it achieves the same result as playing Babble - increases ones vocabulary and knowledge of language.
howdy riverdance
hi river!
no kidding, saray
hi river!
(((Pini)))
lodi
oops
too bad it's not a word, crossy! :(
Hello Good and Crossy
river and crossy, i went to the used bookstore yesterday and got the books you recommended.
but if you change the last vowel, it would be :)
I have a whole lot of catching up to do here - dont know if I will finish this one
JC check your email? MSN has gone haywire on me.
ahh,which one GE?
won't start reading them for a while as i am in the midst of two other books
just finished an awesome book today - you MUST all read THE HELP
Oh? How strange, Laura. OK, thanks.
the road and shelter me
LOVED the Help
shelter me was great
ahh good stuff;)
going now
except when i was talking like a southern black woman in my brain
I dont know the road - must give me the specs on that good
Ah. I see - try shutting it down completely then restarting it, Laura. If that doesn't help, reboot.
the road,it is a riveting book,but not a pretty story..but a page turner
ok
You could try Yahoo! Messenger...
((Herin)) see you later
ciao herin ;)
most I read arent pretty stories - my book group does some heavy stuff - last couple have been easier
* sparklers *
yay pini!!
same with my book club. i enjoy reading my own stuff in between
Crossy - we should start a babble book group for book suggestions - may help with your store as weel
yaaa for pini!
*well
jellen told me about a website where she recommends reads and said many other babblers are o it as well...now if i could just remember what is was.
i think it might be goodreads.com
goodreads.com
goodreads maybe?
whooooo hoooo PINI!!
so many good books,so little time;/
snap! LOL
* smile *
hi unea
Check your email, Pini...
i get messages from dorens and a couple other babblers on what they've been reading. it's a great way to keep up on what's out there.
hey, dawg :-) (just passin' thru)
makes it easy that all babblers also seem to be bibliophiles;)
well my eldest turned 18 today!
she reminded us of all the stuff she can do now that she is 18 - no legal curfew, get a tattoo, order stuff from infomercial, etc.
we reminded her that if she gets arrested she can be tried as an adult and get her name in the paper
vote. has she registered?
yes, she is already registered and excited about it
cool! :)
and does she live under your roof good??? then she still has to abide by your rules......
oh yes, she knows she still has rules especially bc she is still in high school - she just liked to remind us that she could if she wanted to
I expect that coming too - mine is will be 18 in March and still in high school
my friends 16 year old says she can't wait until she is 18 and doesn't have to listen to her parents anymore - and we are like, not in my house!
and if i'm paying for college i still expect you to respect my rules
lol,if my boy tries that crap,i will also remind him that i can toss him out and impose a 300 yard restraining order on his adult butt
Wanders back in Is Pini here?
we went to the Willis/Sears Tower today. Beautiful day!
lol crossy! I agree!
We could see all the way to michigan...
tthey have to realize that once they are 18,they are here on sufference, not because we have to keep them here lol
was in the Sears tower 20 years ago - has it changed any???
oh they have changed the observation floor (103 instead of 99) but it looks much the same.
oh better view from 103 - lol
still hanging around, herein, what's up
i have only been up the CN tower once, was interesting
(had to take Koda out for a moment)
Coolest thing is the Ledge - 4 glass boxes that stick out from the side of the building - really cool!
pinikula, I am new at this and enjoy keeping up with the Chatterbox. I would like to feel I am welcome to contribute but, if not, please let me know.
You can look down between your feet 103 floors - yikes!
anyone is welcome to contribute saray
You're more than welcome to contribute, SaraY! Everyone is! :)
sara, you are more than welcome and we hare happy you have joined us
jump in anytime sara!
I hope I didn't offend you in any way!!!
Pini is that address you gave me still current
Hi everyone. Welcome to the grid SaraY and all. I've been concentrating on the grid and finding the chat much more pleasant.
HI Sara jump on in we don't bite
Hiya stidg ;)
it is, herin ;)
Hi pini; how are you this lovely evening?
Hello Stidgmere
well, the birthday girl went out with her friends, and the boys went to spend the rest of the weekend in lake geneva, so it is just Sydney and me and she is begging for some attention - must go for a bit.
doing pretty good...enjoying my first weekend where I don't have to do anything, be anywhere, etc! :)
yes,i don,t bite...much;)
how are you doing, stidg?
Hi Riverdance, we are enjoying a lovely evening. Hope the recent storm didn't get too close to you.
HI all SaraY -- welcome to the madhouse -- we don'
oops
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
crossy only bites if you smell or taste like BACON!! LOL
WOULFIE
Hi greywolf, min, anyone else I missed
I was actually disappointed stidg that there was no hurricane - it was built up all week and we had 15 minutes of rain - lol
we don't bite and welcome new voices into the pool all the time -- don't worry about fitting in, we adapt to fit you :-)
Thanks Pini. I have written it down. Hi min
Woulfie were you been?
ok :)
Well, we finally got the little boat in the water and the birds decided it was there for them. So, then we got a fancy battery/solar powered bird deterrer with moving parts and shiny tape. That works, for now. Life is always moving one way or another.
now I think we scared her off with our babble love *sigh*
Working way too hard, lady -- it is not fun trying to replace your entire warehouse staff while keeping the flow up to speed
15 minutes of rain. Well, better than chasing after your roof and outbuildings.
Stidgmere - You have a lovely home - loved the photos of the babble meet
Hi Stidg
Thank you riverdance, we have been here a long time and have the luxury of time to make improvments. Hi my dear herinfernallady. Herein called herin.
in addition -- I am working with one of my bosses to develop a new position within the company... defining the responsibilities so corporate HQ will approve is a pain
Stid some parts here have had 80 mil in under 12 hours poor guys
Grey jsut make sure that you make teh position description to the right level so many people out there work about the level they should be doing and suck at their job
The corporate world, the Man in the Grey Flannel Suit, or not. Oh my, too much rain for absorbtion, I'm afraid.
other than that, World of Warcraft keeps sucking me in and distracting me since it is easier to play WoW for 30 mins at a time than it is to finish a gr4 in the same timeframe
o dear lord not Warcrack
oh not enough rain......lol
Stidg the good thing with this rain is the rivers will flush out. Bad is the trees may fall and there is poo in some water supplies
thank you all, much appreciated
lady -- I definitely agree there -- it is called the 'Peter Principle' -- a person rises to their level of incompetence and then stays there
Oooooh, much better! I actually put my glasses on!! LOL
gee, are you talkin' about my gm?
hi all!
ho woulfie!!
hi m9 ;)
welcome, sara
Hey M9 - your icon is scaring me....
hey lbd!
hi everyone who've popped in
I think I will leave the grid for now. Tomorrow being another day and all that. Nice to get some of the words. Take care everyone.
good night stidgmere
night, stidgmere
LOL river.. I took that this morning!
perfect for the theme of invertebrates.. no?
I am also leaving with 2+ hours left and 30 words to get. Father's Day here and other things to do. Hope to get in on the next grid.
perfect - but doesnt mean it cant scare me
enjoy, saray...come again! :)
they don't bite. we get them in our laundry tub in the basement sometimes.
Silverfish???
good night SaraY = see you next time
Anytime you can make it will a great time, SaraY -- niters
bye, sara. don't forget to come back!
Night Sara
no.. silverfish are little.
Grey the problem with that is there is so many managers that have been promoted without companies suppot
the body on these is over an inch
how big is that one in your icon?
OH MY...never seen those before...
that I can agree with from personal experience, lady -- when I was with the bookstore, they promoted me due to convenience -- they needed a new manager during the xmas season and felt a stranger would hurt the store's ability to function
its a "house centipede"
then when I asked for help because I noticed some odd things going on, they ignored me until months later -- at that point, they felt I was responsible and fired me
Grey that's terrible.
promotion by convenience...yup, that and too lazy to look for someone with the creds to do the job right. ahh, then the blame game...
nothing worse than when the higher-ups see crap coming, they circle the wagons and pick a fall guy..i have been there myself greywoulf
But the Peter Principle is actually based on the observation that much of corporate structure these days is based on the idea that a new title is necessary to justify giving a boost to salary
Did anyone else notice that "stidkid" is on the puzzle
ru announced it at flip, min! too cute! :)
we have indeed min as well as stiddle
so glad I'm not in retail management anymore
lol, they spoon around titles to justify their existance,it is the low end boys in the basement shovelling the coaL that get stuff done in many cases
Apparently the average worker can't deal with the idea that they should be paid based on their productivity instead of the fact that they fill a particular position... I have known janitors that deserved a better salary than the area supervisor
and the more oomph the title has the more of a golden parachute you'll get. or at least a clean hankie
lol sanp
mm,seems i am a tad dyslexic tonight
speaking of management and corporate crap.. reminding folks that I have a book recommendation on my profile. The way management is wriitten in the book is fabulous.
but in many ways, I feel that my experience at the bookstore was a blessing -- It let me change my life in a positive way
so true, crossy. that's why i'll be pulling overnights for the next 3 nights. gotta get the work done cuz we don't have to time during the day.
Grey I know that teachers should get paid the same as lawyers and not the amount a 20 year old burger flipper does
after being corporate fodder on several occasions,i find that it is always best to be the one who signs the cheques;0
for one thing, it helped me learn my supervisory limitations so that I won't let anyone try to give me more than I can handle ever again
brb
I was a manager for many years - and company closed on me - found a new job - less money but am responsible for myself - when they offerred me a managment position I turned it down - dont want all that hassle ever again - administration stuff sucks
I think the greatest problem I have observed regarding work and salaries is that the entire attitude towards work needs to be transformed
<-- is in administration...
I am a mutant and don't mind paper work
a lot of those who get inhouse promotions don't always realize what is involved, they just know it's more pay, and find out the hard way.
...liking the level I'm in...don't want to go any higher ;)
too many people take their jobs for granted and feel that they are doing their bosses a favor just for showing up each day
so true, woulfie
lol,i have had them show up drunk,stoned,2 hours late with no call....
they end up getting a lateral move to the unemployment line
Pini - if that is what you like - great - I dont want all that anymore - had 14 people working for me - some on probation - always my fault not theirs - dont want that anymore
and that's IF they show up at all! and IF you were smart enough to document it!
they all get 2 written and signed warnings before the end
fortunately I never have more than 2 people working "for" me; however, I take the position that they work "with" me...
:)
well, this tired ol' dawg is heading for the pillows. Great seeing you woulfie! come back more often! night night everyone
thats great - only 2???
in todays overly litiginous society, paperwork is the bane of the supervisor -- if you don't properly document everything that breaks company policy, you find that you can't always get rid of your problem workers
well the third is bye bye
I like your policy
yeah, well, 1 FT, and 2 PT students
And then, there is the additional hassle attached to training the replacement
good night lbd
niters lbd!
one of the former workers told me "i'm always 5 minutes late, get used to it.*
better than someone puking up last night whiskey on a costomers shoes
get used to it???!!!
eeeewwwww on that note *poof*
LB i would be more than happy to say I guess you are 5 minutes on time for dismissal
dont you just love those little hairs that rise up on the back of your neck...
i jkeep a stack of blank R.O.E,s for people just like that
I used to have a prob with being 5-10 minutes late when I was younger -- I had the reasonable excuse of living on long island and having to deal with the traffic on the long island expressway everyday
However, when they pulled me aside to say that they needed me to change my habits or get written up, I changed my patterns... I was still late every now and then, but I got the message
snort..get used to it...my god
what's an ROE?
record of employment form, must be submitted no later than 7 days after the persons last day worked
gotcha
I think the only good thing that has come out of the rough economy the past couple of years is the workforce developing a new sense of responsibility towards their jobs
lurk
UNLURK on feather
hi feather
just finished watching avatar
here university grads are fighting the high school kids for Mcjobs,it is so tight.many often work 3 mcjobs at once to pay the bills
just borrowed that from my coworker, feather -- what did you think?
loved loved loved the world. was very annoyed at the army plot line, so over the top it seemed fake.
i loved that movie and agree
just watched something on youtube on how it was made. way cool.
sad to say but this grid is not very fun
I heard the plot described as "a vehicle to get you to the world" - as it has been done before and better
good to know
Feather would your kids watch Avatar?
many people have argued is a sad imitation to pokahontus
holy cow no. too scary in the battle scenes. i was saying that daniel would love it during the parts showing pandora though.
good description woulf
my kids loved it (older though) and have watched it 20 plus times
yeah, older is fine! he's just 6.
Seriously?
thats still young - mine are 13 and 17
what?
That your 6 year old would watch it?
hints for the el6 and og6, please
NO!
Ok good. My b.fs sister let her kids that age watch it. I was the same as you
he'd like the parts showing the world with the cool glowing plants, and the flying bits. otherwise no.
13 and 17 is way different!
Feather when i was told that the 6 and 8 year olds watched it i had a fit
yes it is
yes it is
how things change when i was 9-13 my dad used to let me have a friend sleep over on saturday nights and we used to stay up till 4 in the morning scaring ourselves silly by watching Vincent prices midnight theatre.they used to run 3 horror flicks back to back.got so bad we would be afraid to go down the dark hallway to go pee lol
lol crossy
it would be like"oh god lady!! do not walk backwards into that room!
and the music would get all creepy and you knew that some dusty,or slimy thing was gonna come out of th dark...
Crossie that sounds fun
and she would pose and give a blood curdling screen while showing off legs that went up to about her neck...lol
scream
yeah, see i'm just not cut out for that! i'm the one who watches under the blanket, through the fingers.....from down the hallway.
i used to go in the hallway when the wicked witch came onto the wizard of oz!
lol feathers
i know my limitations. i just don't do those kinds of movies.
the oldies are best, the new ones are just a contest to see who can do the best gross out
*popping in* hi all! Crossy -- I used to watch Vincent Price too! scares were more mental than visually disturbing.
I LOVED mystery theater - best thrill of the whole week
cross -- those are the type of true horror flicks I remember with fondness and rising neck hairs
You know what scared the hell out of me
new ones are just blood - old ones were mind games....yeah
the music and the ambiance..that was what set you up..
I hate that todays definition of horror has devolved to half naked coeds and buckets of blood
both freak me out.
House of Wax the remake really freaked me out
some of the older ones based on poes novels were quite good
I would have to say that the only movie I have seen in the past ten years (not that I have ever been a large movie watcher) was The Ring...
It is the only movie to ever give me chills while watching it in the middle of a sunny day in the middle of summer!
Which version Grey?
anyways,i am off for the night.tc everyone and happy babbling...poof!
Night Crossie
The american, lady -- given everyones descriptions, I have actually been a bit anxious about tracking down the original japanese
night crossy
niters, Cross
THat gives me the freaking creeps yet the Japanese one didn't. I found HOuse of wax to be disturbing
What I liked the best about it, lady, was the idea that what seemed like the right thing to do, wasn't That something that evil can't be stopped... ever Just held at bay... that was the best and scariest aspect
thinking of going for a walk
I need to make a midnight run to the grocery store -- need milk, bread, and fruit for breakfast
Just want to find the og6 first
og 6/30 is og+anagram of not even with extra vowel near the end of the word GreyWoulf.
right going to go do somethign
The el6 is e + a vein of ore + a vowel.
Thanks, Min -- never would have found that without help FIREWORDS!!
hello all
So long, lady
Congratulations GreyWoulf on fireworks! Good for U!
YAY grey!!! (long time no see!)
Hello, Jill...
Hello jillibus! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
6 to go here
Hi J.C.! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log!
Go jillibus go!
Hi JC! How are you doing?
I have six words left too.
hi jilli! -- yeah, I've been working too hard and playing too little
Well, we think of you too, Grey
any clues for oi5?
oi 5/12 word is oi plus a spanish word for day jillibus.
my spanish is nonexistent
D's Done! left
oi5/12:oi+another word that means to help reversed
oh -- guessed right -- ty min!
hey jill! hey min! hey everyone!!!
2 left...
go jill go!
Sorry to say, but I must be going -- the groceries won't wait until morning, need them for breakfast -- I'll try to take advantage of the weekend and stop in tomorrow -- {{**HUGS**}} to all
NO!!!! *hugs WOulf so he can't leave*
*sits on Woulf*
*pouty mama face*
hi silly stid!
*stomps feet defiantly* WOULF CAN'T LEAVE!!!! *wail*
*grumble* Woulf left. hmph.
Would -- our stores don't stay open till midnight!
I haven't seen him in FOREVER. *bummed out mama look*
ther there stiddy *soothes*
OK, OK -- I will be back as quick as I can - Stid -- how long can you stick around?
*sniffle* I can be here for until flip I think...
*smiles at woulf*
stid, you're in the gr4, and so is a stidkid, which is very annoying because I need an st7 and it doesn't work.
it's what you sit on, on a horse's back. but funny STart to it.
(boy am I glad I didn't turn off the cmp) I should only be about a half hour getting to the store -- it is just down the road
I just saw that, stid, and giggled! So it's a real word????
okay, be safe driving! *stern mama look* Want you back in ONE piece! LOL
middle english, apparently "the lower part of a stack of hay or the like. 2. a supporting frame for a stack, or a platform on which a stack is placed. 3. any supporting framework or base. "
attaboy, Woulf -- cul8r
hm. you str***** a s*****... remove the R and get the ST 7.
and I guess horses eat hay... *considers how to insert the st 7 into a conversation in a casual manner when I have no haystacks nor horses...
I got it, thanks, stid. Last word now -- st5/12, the second.
it's windy here...
like the fabric scots wear? st*** like pl***
not here...yet
I think it sounds like the first st 5/12
ty stid -- SPARKLERS!
YAY jill!!!!!
how are you jill? did you have fun with your visitors yesterday?
We had a blast, stid -- everyone got along like old pals -- so gratifying!
so nice to hear, jill.
Looks as if our Happy Hours (TGIF) will be continuing among the 3 households now.
Not that our Fridays are all that important except for the school-teacher's <wink>
She is a Montessori trained early ed teacher.
I am glad you will have some TGIFs... I might join you at some point, eh? My last teaching day will be Nov 10... will have a lot of writing to do when I am done, but it will be manageable by that point, as I will be doing all the groundwork while I student teach.
Mi casa su casa, stid
I am still alternating between optimism and all-out panic. Not for the actual teaching... I know how to handle kids and can "punt" a lesson if necessary from my toolkit of prior knowledge.
But the paperwork. YEGADS!!!
(see, I do know some Spanish, lol!)
gracias, Jill!!! (me too) *grin*
Oy yoy, paperowrk.
see -- I can't even type
Where did JC go? Said hello and he disappeared!
LOL it's okay jill, I have trouble reading the small font these days. Hold on, I will exit Lickety and go into the regular babble so I can resize the fonts.
resizing fonts is beyond me.
oh, that is MUCH better!
brb
Hello, all...
hold down control key and hit the "plus/equal" key at the same time and it makes the whole thing bigger...
hey jellen! how are you? survived your playdate okay?
Yes, barely...we went on a walk around a golf course...it nearly killed me, lol...
The four-year-old went to a friend's house...
argh! I was going to order some books from the International Reading Association... but Tom didn't tell me which card he wanted me to use in time and the session timed out. Now I have to remember the books I wanted. *sigh*
oh! so you got to walk just as grown-ups?? what a treat for your friend!
I mighta coulda kept up with a four-year-old, though...
LOL
plus/equal? Well, I don't really need to change font size but will keep that in mind if I do (if I don't forget!)
the minus key takes it down again.. easy to restore it
Hello, all - averrrry late flip tonight.
Hi, Kalyn and Christine
Hey Kalyn and Christine
hey Jellen :)
Minus key? Is that the same as the hyphen or in the Numbers section?
hi Stid :)
same as the hypen
Hello, again. The computer slept-in late, thismorning.
hyphen (right beside the plus key)
OK, thanks.
*waiting as patiently as possible for Woulf to reappear*
Jill, do you know that one reason I have been able to go back to school, and now into the classroom -- the reason I am "this close" to becoming a teacher -- is that first visit I made to see you and Hetty??? I just wanted you to know that.
I'm baaack!
pounce on Woulf
WOULFIE!!!! *hugs and hugs and choclits*
Goodness, stid! I'm amazed!
and so is lady! :-)
how are you? I miss you so much! Do you know I see your mother here more often than you?
{*stidmama*}
I miss hearing about the kid updates, and seeing you.
Thank goodness ... Stidmama wore a path in the carpet.
LOL Christine! it's only a little path...
let's see -- I am fine, just very tired from working way too hard The family are all fine And yes, I know -- when last we emailed, she said pretty much the same thing
You're happy noe ??
Hi, Woulf
or now, even ??
(((woulf))) sorry about the working too hard. I hope the kids are wonderful as always?
Hi, Jellen
I am happy now, and noe also if that makes YOU happy!
Kids are doing great -- Kristianna is way way excited about starting 2nd grade on Tuesday and Seb is just as excited to go to preschool starting the following week
preschool already?? wow... *suddenly feels WAY older*
I have a friend that keeps sending me spam emails. I sent him a message via fb that he may have been compromised and he ignores me then sent me another spam email. i know that he has read and seen the message. So he has been sent a rather snotty 2nd message. Next time I am getting from you tube the ''leave Britany alone' messageand forwarding that to him
I hope K will enjoy the 2nd grade. They are big enough to write and function on their own, and feel so competent that they can handle some extra challenges. It's a good year in school for most kids.
Kirsten says hi as well -- she is sitting here waiting for her brownies to finish baking so she can end her birthday with a choclit brownie with vanilla ice cream on top
*waves happily at Kirsten* HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! you don't look a day older to me! :-D
I just hope 2nd grade is ready for her, stid -- last year she was accepted into the gifted students program here -- only one of two 1st graders to be recommended
awww too cute Grey
of course she was, woulf! LOL she'll want challenges, but remember she is still "little" and be patient when your wise young sage acts her real age...
I figure her biggest challenge with 2nd grade will be the same as last time -- getting her to slow down while doing her homework so that her handwriting is properly legible
Grey she may be a doctor in training if her hand writting is bad
that can be a real challenge when the brain works so much faster than the still-developing fine-motor skills.
lady -- she has expressed the desire to be the first nurse on Mars
awww
if anyone can do it, woulf, she can!
so long as we still have a proper space program by the time she has the proper training, I am sure she can too! :-)
I hope we will, woulf. I think there will be something, at least.
well with NASA on the chopping block -- there will be a perfect opportunity for private enterprise to step in and fill the void -- I am just a bit concerned about how that will impact safety for the public
to paraphrase an old Bob Newhart routine -- I have visions of the 'Grace L Ferguson Spaceline and Storm Door Company'
public safety seems incompatible with business these days (mine disasters, gulf oil, product recalls...)
rofl woulf!
Do 6 please
take the 4/5 before it and double all the vowels
to be the recipient of the preceding do4 with two sets of double vowels
then what is the 5 under it please
past tense
d + public disturbance, anagrammed

we can't really afford it, but my eyes are getting worse and my netbook from last summer needs me to scroll when I upsize most things. And I have a LOT of reading to do.

love my netbook, and will continue to use it when I am actually in the schools (it's cheaper so if dropped, lost or stolen not so big a loss); but for the intensive paper writing and online reading I do, need a bigger screen. going to get a 15" one.

sorry Min. I didn't notice but I did notice straight away latst night that stidkid was in the gr**
oh! and I put my hair UP in a bun this past week -- will keep doing that when at school because it keeps the hair out of my eyes and makes me look a little more forbidding (I think).
Yes,I commented on that earlier tonight. Pini said it was mentioned at the flip which I was not here then.
I will see if I can do that tomorrow and have Tom take a picture of me for you-all. I leave so early in the morning that he isn't even thinking about being awake...
why would you want to be forbidding? the kid will love you. (altho I coloured my hair this week)
I must say I am suprised to see you still up now, stid. Don't forget to rest.
*thinking of bugs with green hair* because I want them to be clear that I am in charge, not a friendly auntie or grandmother.
I am done! I have fireworks! st7/36 was my last word
I wanted to see woulf... he left just as I got here earlier, so he came back just for me. *special mama look*
