Hello Red and Sprite
hi lyn :) xxx
mmm not the 4th July and 'flag' isn't in the grid
you are correct on both counts
oh I know. Yesterday was National Anthem Day for the US.
That's a new one for me...thanks. Those Yanks are so patriotic.
the fun part for me is, that there is always a story to tell.
I learn a lot from the icon themes, both in putting them up and in hunting the net for new ones.
BBS Stew apparently wants something and I'll get a coffee as well

Good morning Molly

good morning/afternoon everyone
(((Annie))) good morning. How are you?
Hi ((Mom)) Im okay and hope you are the same
just fine, Annie. So glad you are okay
I found a pair of shoes that I can walk in. Hooray
excellent Annie, did something happen that you need a different pair of shoes?
I have nerve damage in my feet and shoes are hard to find that I can tolerate
oh Annie, that is terrible, I am so sorlry
sorry*
I cannot spell well at all today
me too, LOL
FM's favorite word is in the grid today
te6 /21
hmmm, thinking ....
anteater
Hi Annie and Mom. Good luck with the shoes Annie.
thanks red! Good luck in your new home.
Hi Red!!! You closed?
the wheels of the short sale move slowly. but thats ok, I keep saving money so when the time comes things will be easier. No close yet...
I hope it won't be much longer. Are you need the wildfires?
hello to the morning crew!
red, Is the house near where you live now?
Not very near, about 50 miles away. We have had some very smoky air.
Hi JBV!
hello ((JBV))
Hi JBV!
Very close to where i live now.
I hope you stay safe.
I mean the new home, not the Iron Horse.
clue for the or 6/7 please
and good morning/afternoon/evening all
I will be in and out today - the guys will be here soon to replace the furnace ! - had no heat last week, temporary repair, but needed a new system
Hi Jeff, I am looking for it now.
Annie, what kind of shoes?
JBV, did you make good use of your fireplace?
or 6/7 combo means gold in French...I think.
Hi Jeff
I went to Easy Spirit and bought a pair of loafers, size 9 1/2 WW...they are tolerable
we have a wood stove, Annie - it's fine if you're sitting in the family room, but it doesn't heat the house - had to sleep with a hat on one night!
oh my, JBV..not too good...but you will be comfortable tonight
Molly, I have an awful time finding shoes
or 6/7 is also a metal alloy
yes, comfortable, except for the big hole in the checkbook -
JBV, that will fade with time..:)
Glad you found some that are comfortable Annie.
thanks, Molly
it does indeed, JBV. Not that you want to have to do it at all but it is a shame it could not have been last year so you could have at least gotten a tax credit for it
Annie, I hope the shoes work out for you.
me too, Mom
ty
Mom, I found out that the tax credits are only applicable if you buy the 95% efficiency systems - which of course are more expensive - so I am going with the 80% efficient, which is what 3 contractors and my brother-in-law all recommended (the planet will have to forgive me)
thang god for one look lol
I got the anteater, Annie, finally
yay, mom
I am sure the planet will JBV
anteater?
te 6/21 JBV
te 6/21...jbv
JBV, gas or oil furnace?
snap Annie
hmm, looking
gas
FM's favorite word...jbv
oh! got it - perfect clue
that is what we have. We had an oil furnace at the old house. Glad we don't have it now. Oil is so expensive
will you clue et 4/5 as JBV's favorite word when it comes up?
I always do, jbv
yeah JBV ....
that's what makes it fun when babblers get the word
they told me my old system was probably operating at only 50% efficiency, so I should see some benefit in my monthly utility bills
et in today's grid?
not today
no, not today, Mom
I sure hope so, JBV
almost
ah, the needle case?
yes, and for the record, I don't like it when it's spelled etwee
I love that word as well
I like ennui too
so many favorites
have to go get ready - see you later
bye bye JBV, I hope you have a great day
bye JBV
may I have a clue for either of the O words please
looking
or + duck, and plural
or + duck, and plural
oh thanks Annie
(((Une))) hello! have you had enough rain?
or6/7-----iron *** and beware of the *** of March
((Une))) Hello!

hey, mom and Annie -- yes, mom, quite ready for end of rain but we're getting more this weekend -- ugh

The Ohio River is near flood stage and there is flooding already occuring :-(
yuk

stay safe, mom
we are on high ground, but the houses along the river might not fair so well. It has been a while since the river has reached flood stage
BBL -- must run -- good to at least have a quick glimpse of 2 of my favorite ladies! byeeee *poof*

bye Une! youre a fave too
Mom, hope you stay safe

have fun, ((Mom))
I will, be back at lunch time.
morning all
hi peri!
Still wondering why te 6/21 is an anteater
molly, did you get the word?
ten6.21 -----number and rumpus room (3 letters)
Annie, not suer if the younger babblers would know what a rumpus room is. I do :)
sure even
Yep, I had the word. But the definition says it's a hedgehog.
I know what a rumpus room is. I know what Romper Room is too. : P
thanks for enlightening me, Molly
te
good morning all
Hi Sea
This grid is not liking me this morning
hellow and a wonderful sunny AM to all here.
morning bichon
Hi bichon :)
phone
I'm gjoing to go go for a long walk with the fluffs this afternoon. She keep me happy all day
sounds like a wonderful time bichon
The fluffs love long walks and it's gets the endorphins going
my little old pup is lying behind the verticle blind in the warm sunshine this morning
mine are comatose on their bed under the table [their den]. You have a Westie Sea?
Yes, he will be 15 in May
developed health issues within the last year, but I continue to nurse him and love him
My last Bichon died in Dec. at 16 and 1/2. We were so awful without him, we rescued two one-year-old Bichons
awww, so sorry but I bet you are loving life now with those two
Biscuit would have gone on in his very sickly state for a long time. But, he was so moribund, that it wasn't wise to let him go on. We had to carry im outside to pee
Life is lively now. And, having dogs who can actually hear is a new experience
ohhh, Max has Cushings and has now developed some kind of skin disorder which has gotten much better but old age is taking its toll....I nursed my Himalayan until she was almost 17...seems I just can't let them go until I am ready
When we brought Bisky in, the vet said he was a tough old dog and wouldn't just go in his sleep. He'd probably soil himself and we wanted him to have some dignity
Bisky had kidney problems and consumed large amounts of water and it just went through him. The old ticker was also bad
Oh, absolutely..when it comes to that I will know when the time is right to let him go...Max consumed a lot of water due to the Cushings, with medication that has gotten better
We hadn't intended to get another dog, but we found ourselves so, so sad and crying for so long, that we found the duo on Small Paws Rescue.
I keep saying I won't get another one, but time will tell...I'll probably be just like you. Are they brother siblings?
I meant to say are they siblings?
Good morning
They were found wandering the streets and it is thought that they are siblings, but they don't resemble each other.
Oh my, who would let them just wander? Maybe just buddys then lol
Hi Mr. Bob
They needed a lot of treatment and were in a foster home. Basically they are in great shape, but they do have some fear issues from the time they were loose. We consulted a behavioralist and are training them
Hi Mr. Bob.
They found a wonderful home, I can tell. I must be off, need to go buy paint to paint my daughters old bedroom this weekend now that she is married. Enjoyed our chat bichon, take care of those pups!
Have fun
Painting? Not so much fun lol but thanks anyway.
bichon, you and your hubby sound like wonderful "parents"...what are their names?
Their names were Dexter and Drew, but we renamed them to Marco and Polo.
Our previous pair was Muffin and Biscuit
Love it!
Being retired, I love caring for them. My granddaughter loves them too
How old were they determined to be?
It's believed that they were one year old in January.
They are young enough to be trainable.
How lucky they are.
And we are.
Yes, a good match was made. I dont know how people can abandon pets. I never will understand that.
If you look at the rescue site I got them from, there's a long list. There's lots of puppy mill rescues. But we didn't consider that. They need a socialized dog in the home and they are very timid
I never had a dog but we always got cats from a shelter. It is easier for a cat in an apartment. No room for a dog to have a good run.
hi all
hi jmc, how are you feeling?
i never got a cat; my cats always found me
i am hunky-dory!
morning, all!
Hi uusue!
my veins are as clean as a whistle and I have the heart of a 20 year old
Had a nice cup of coffee with dorens yesterday :-)
hi uu!
wonderful news, jmc
how nice so dorens has met ruru and you!
she has indeed! And TO, JMC, and I forget who else.
Oh yes, she's also met scrabbler
true we had a big meet up in Philly!
dorens also met my dad :-)
I have met hmm DC lilmonkey dorens stidmama stidgmere (and all the stidetes) TO Piniukula flosey and . . . .I forget
also I met redturtle's mom and dad but not red yet!
oh right, she said she'd met stidmama too.
my dad was a bit bemused by the whole thing but he had a nice time too.
my son rolls his eyes everytime i say i am going to a meet up
He has a computer, but no internet at home (he goes to the library to get online).
I'd like to meet some Babblemates, but meet-ups never seem to happen around here
goodness I would be lonely now without internet
in fact i was when in was in hospital on saturday night
me too, jmc!
bichon organize one
why were you in the hospital jmc\
Oh, jmc, I wish I could have been there; it is so hard to be alone in the hospital :-(
that is how the one happened in Washington State
How do I find out who lives near me, just advertise?
I/they thought i was having a heart attack but I am apparently as healthy as a horse and was just suffering from high blood pressure from being pissed as hell
devs - no dictionary results
sure, bichon! There must be a bunch of people in Connecticut; I know dorens drives from NJ to Boston once a month or so, for example
when i am traveling to an area--like I am going to Austin in Oct--I start checking peoples icons
that's a relief. Meds can do wonders with high blood pressure
then I tell them when i am coming and I find that a lot of people know each other
so start with dorens and find out the next time she is driving up to Boston
actually do not have high blood pressure I the steam coming from my ears was not dispersing the pressure fast enough that day ;-) so I had a major spike
lol, jmc - I had sort of a similar thing last August - was helping the freshmen move in, rode up and down in the elevator until I threw up, BP was way up. Wound up with a CAT scan and a stress test before they let me go (also very healthy arteries and heart, and my brain must be ok as well since they didn't complain about it)
the best part of it was for me uu is i was able to skip a board meeting on monday that was the partial source of the anger
good morning, all :)
hi cyber
good work, jmc - I missed a couple of faculty meetings during my little episode as well :-)
hi, nan!
my staff person who went to the meeting apparently told the other board members it was all their fault i was in the hospital and i have gotten some contrite emails since then lol
fets - no dictionary results
rqq please do not put words from the grid into the chog
we understand your frustration with the dictionary because we share it
de** is the plural of a hindu god
fe** is the plural of an acronym for field effect transistor which I have no idea what is
feel free to grouse about the words--we all do
but welcome to babbleland rqq
Maybe I should put a longer explanation in the physics babblets? :-)
stats for the o please
well not everyone thinks to click on icons immediately
but it couldn't hurt
efts
don't have it yet, jmc, although I still think "ored" should be a word (along with anded, and so forth)
arrrrgggggghhhhh
clue for the 9 please
*shuffles off to the pb*
or6/21, and pl for 7
right, I was thinking more of you than of rqq, jmc :-)
sorry jiving don't have it yet
thx, kalea
oh you can explain what a field whatever is?
hi kalea
ty
hi jmc
I will need to refresh my memory; they were one of the first transistors developed, and are somewhat simpler in operation than the usual sort, if I recall (at least I found them easier to understand when I took electronics some 40 years ago...)
lol! sounds way past me in any case
i can only understand big picture physics like relativity
They are transistors used to amplify weak signals. (Putting it very simply)
re9/54 - to do something again - you figure out what :D
ty cad i can get that
lol hoot that is just mean! ;-)
i am still looking for the or6/21
but i must go to work instead--silly work
is the 8 an re as well?
i guess i will miss it when i am unemployed in a few months
oh ok - use an e word
bye all have a great day babbling
jmnrick - they're used a lot to boost wireless signals.
Yes Nan, the 8 is an re.
ty cad i am always happy to learn about new things
Sorry, the 8's.
although i just saw a report that said that happy people di** younger than grumps
I work in Electrical & Computer Engineering... though I am NOT an engineer.
JMC, did you want a clue for the or's?
Ohhh thanks Hoot
probably we gets killed doing some new
think of the frozen potatoes and change last letter - then pl
nbt/nbs
sure molly
ty hoot that was very close to where i was monkeying
Hoot just gave one. Earlier the clue was or + duck and plural. Well, short for duck.

not only that but he sang, too :-)
75 to go -- time for breakfast
bye, nan!
nbt but need the 9 for nbs
Discovery had many r9's
so did Challenger
and Enterprise
uu, any object in space that comes down to Earth again
thank you - I have the 9 now so have nbs and nbt
Good morning!
hi car. :)
Back to work...
hi Annie!
Words that begin with vowels are my undoing
Me too...those and N's.
Hi Car. Is everyone on the mend at your house?
Molly...I think so...knock on wood!
Dylan had a few hives this morning, but I sent him. I have very dry skin...thus I am itchy...but just coated myself with Eucerin cream, so hopefully my itchiness will stop!
car. hope your kids stay well
ME TOO!!!!!
Again, thank you all for your support and good wishes. It truly has made a difference for me.
hi all
Hello Boo!
Ooh! I am in the grid! Di 6/21!
It sounds like we are all di6/21's these days.
Nothing wrong with that...we can push each other along!
May I have stats for one of the O's from the top left corner please?
I think most of us are always di6
or should be boo
hi Nan
hi boo --just back from breakfast for a few mo -- company is stirring and I have croissants in the oven
hmmm sounds good Nan
I have company too. they have been here for a week and are leaving this afternoon
thx to all for the re9 - stepped out for a bit while physical therapist was here.
Hey uusue! Are you heading home this weekend?
Hi to car, boo, Molly, Annie, and everyone else!
Yes, car, I leave tomorrow.
Are you OK or do you want to stay longer?
hi uusue
I am ok and, more importantly, my dad is ok. I'll come back for a few days in a week (spring break).
Does anyone have OR 6?
yes, car, it's like the potatoes but with a different last vowel (someone else's clue from earlier)
Ok. As long as you both feel good. You both have made such progress and should both feel proud. and to boot...you had this time together!
it really has been good :-)
potatoes?!?!?
a brand of potatoes.
I got it! TY!
yw :-)
or 6: raw metal + caesar's march date
OK...off for a bit! Have a great day everyone!
bye, car!
OK, I have included a more thorough description of field effect transistors in my profile :-)
Sue, you know if I ever attempted to take your class, I would be one of your F students. Physics is like a foreign language to me. But I am reading what you're posting to try to become more well rounded. : D
Molly, if you were in my class I would work very hard with you to help you understand the concepts; I do teach a course in physics for nonscientists (at a level that is simpler than most of what I have in my profile) and would be delighted to have you as a student :-)
And you would be just like my senior year Algebra teacher in high school who got my brain wrapped around that subject. Sort of.
My F students are the ones who don't try, and I suspect that you would definitely be in there trying hard, Molly.
hello everybody
Hi Ruby. Happy Friday.
aaah, Friday!
molly if you are interested in physics, you could check out a book called "Physics for Poets"
I would probably need "Physics For Dummies" as well. : D
I loved physics in high school and worked in the physics lab, but never got the hang of it, however hard I tried
plus had an unforgettable crush on my physics teacher!!!
uu, I pass Physics for dummies in college in the mid-sixties [in the days before hand held calculators. I only passed because I forgot to put my name on a test and the only one left without a name, was an A
ugh, my HS physics teacher was slightly pervy. nobody had a crush on him.
I will forever like wingtip shoes because of him!
(maybe I'm slightly pervy lol)
not in a bad way, ruby - far as i can tell online!
hahah hurshy I'm to old to be pervy!!!
Hi again, all - didn't mean to fall silent there...
this guy would stand too close to the girls when talking to them. he was also the advisor for student council. one time, one of the girls i knew was talking to him in the student council office and he kept moving close to her and she kept backing away, until she was backed against a table. she then sat on the table, slid back across it, and stood on the other side!
uu you missed my story about how I passed Physics in college
uh oh, bichon
I saw it, bichon, pretty funny :-0
It's funny and it's not something I'm proud of
when I was a teacher, I once reported a 6th grade teacher who used to let the little girls (not such little girls) sit on his lap. I got in trouble with the principal
when did you post it, bichon
YOU got in trouble??
I have a bunch of physics books for non-physicists, including the Physics of the Human Body, lost of physics for various sports, the Physics of Superheroes, and so forth
don't make waves!
10:33
that is very funny, bichon, but an excellent and lucky way to pass
I think I would have done better if I had a hand calcultor
but you didn't make waves. he did. you just reported the waves.
well, I think we all did things in the 60s that we are not necessarily proud of...
not a popular thing to do at the time
but we never inhaled!
It's not like Physics meant anything to me then or in the future.
for a smart guy, he really said some very stupid things, didn't he?
you mean you don't use "mechanical advantage" every day?
I'm not the Physics type. I majored in Sociology. A very 60's thing to do
I try to make it mean things to my students - why they should wear their seat belts, and so on.
having loved HS math, I started out (at Queens, Bichon) as a math major but calculus was the end of the road for that career choice!
I'm sure Physics is great, just not for my mind
And I produced a child who got his PhD in Biophysics
dinner now, bye everybody!
bye, ruby!
like my being a computer maladroit and having a techie son!
hi ruby
techie sons are the best. Now my son works for Google and he helps me sooo much
is anyone else really really tired
no
hi everyone - well, hurshy, just up - not yet in high gear
I am, hurshy, and it isn't even lunch time yet!
Hi Flosey
hi boo
beautiful owl, Boo
ty
Is it a snowy owl?
that is what I presumed!
just from google not my own
we have an owl living up the hill behind us (heavily treed area) and every once in a while he comes down and spends the day "watching over" us, you'd think! He even let me go out to take a picture, didn't budge, just stared at me!
Owls know they're cool. Hiya, Babblers!
Sounds so cool flosey
yes very cool flosey
they are interesting, aren't theyJudy
Hi Judy
my niece (pictured at left) is already obsessed with owls - began before christmas, so she was only ~14 months old. go figure!
My sister used to live on the edge of a swamp. They had a huge Great Horned Owl back there. It was gorgeous.
OK, my icon is now a clue :-)
my granddaughter was at that age too. My son was obsessed with the moon
There are owls nesting in the woods near the biology building on campus, that I walk by on my way to and from work. The babies are so cute!
They are very cute as babies. Giant eyes in a tiny body.
you would say, hannah, where's the owl? and she would go over to the bookshelves, pick out a book of various animals, open to a page with an owl, and point to it. so, i bought her some books of all owls. the picture book is apparently having some trouble with all the wear-and-tear, my sister was talking about cutting it up and putting the pages into plastic sleeves in a binder.
We have an old silo near us, and the owls live there. We can only hear them at night though
What a great way to keep a treasured book, hurshy
hi folks - love to hear stories of children and books -
i'm bursting with good news, can I share?
en 7?
i also got her a stuffed owl, and when i skyped with her after it arrived, she hugged it and said, "owl. hug."
nm, got it
just had a SKYPE call from my cousin in Italy (that's not a new thing, we've been doing it since July) but his mother was with him! she's 96 years old!!
cool, JBV
SKYPE is great, isn't it hursh?
ooh, cool, jbv!
I haven't seen her since 1973 so this was really a big deal
(story in my profile for anyone who'd like to know more) - one big source of joy in my life
by the way, I changed my icon pic this morning - what do you see? I still see the candle for Jesse
who's Jesse?
I see what looks like an Italian street, JBV
Nancy Boy
and great story!
yes, that's it - sue = the street my father grew up on, in Sicily
I guess I have to refresh
just read your bio, JBV, very interesting. My daughter has just gone to England and hopes to find some relatives who might be there. Apparently great great grandfather owned a knitting mill that is now a museum, she plans to visit there
it's a very satisfying feeling, flosey - to reconnect. I know a lot of the family history, still finding out more
oops, she's 92, not 96 - anyway, bright and lively, looks great - maybe I have some of the same good genes!
indeed, JBV, especially since my generation is now the remaining! both parents were from families of 8 and only 1 remaining aunt!
now connecting with cousins on Facebook - pretty amazing
have recently connected with 2 that I haven't seen since childhood
am I a terrible person if I don't want to learn my family history?
yes, as time creeps up on us, we value the old cousins even more -
oops, got so interested in chat that I almost forgot to go to Carpet Bowling!! must run now, bbl
maybe you're too young, aslindy :)
I've noticed when I go the LDS genealogy library, everyone around me is my age or older, even much older (I'm 61)
how young is that? I'm 45
I've always been interested, even as a child - would always love hearing my father talk about his parents and grandparents whom I never knew
perhaps if I had more "fond childhood memories"
Buon giorno!
everybody and their family is different; I'm interested in parts of my family history (partly because my dad is) but don't think I'd care much about long-lost cousins. The only ones I'd really want to be in touch with are not just lost, but dead.
hi, scrabs!
I had intended to sit down and work on my taxes a bit more but the Babble Magnet pulled me in!
Babble is MUCH more fun than taxes.
ANYTHING is more fun than taxes!!
This is my first yr doing my own taxes and Turbo Tax is kind of fun. I am done with federal--$946 refund--and I hope the state taxes are kind to me too.
I use turbo tax too, scrabs; need to get on it as soon as I get home.
It's fun to navigate and watch the result on top go from positive (must pay) to negative (refund.)
It is indeed, and I am hoping to see exactly that when I do mine :-)
I have noticed that every time I log back on that updates occur. So is it best to file late so that I have the most updated return?
Hey, my middle name is in the grid: ne4/5!
hi all! I was just reading back. MY daughter (30) traced my fathers side back to 1780 in the US On my mothers side, she found out that my mysterious maternal grandfather who abandoned my moms family during the depression was already married with children and was Italian not french as previously believed thru family history. She has contacted the other side and lunched with one of her new cousins. It has been very odd...
Fascinating, Beth, especially the tree going back to 1780.
I can remember as a little girl my mom getting a phone call from someone who was doing a geneaology on the Jewett's (my maiden name) all my mom got out of it was someone had been hanged in
hi, scrabbler, did you see my post about my aunt in ITaly (10:58) -
England for stealing food
There is a well-known and wealthy Jewett family here and a street in the city of Buffalo called Jewett Parkway, near the Zoo.
I bet she would have great stories JBV
Yes, JBV, and I still dream of finding my grandfather's remaining family in Gualtieri Sicamina, Sicily.
From what my daughter could tell there are branches of our family who are really really into this whole thing, they were the ones who supplied the very earliest links for us. I think she had gotten backe to 1840 on her own
yes, she knows the Sicilian side of the stories - my father left there in 1931 and never returned, so we're going way back to find the common history
Scrabs, my "new " Italian grandfather is also from Sicily, maybe we are related : )
I subscribe to Yankee Magazine (because I love New England) and in the mag and on the web site genealogy is huge.
I can't do this without actually studying history - I have been reading everything I can find, including political and economic history of Sicily
Cool, Beth! My Mom's father came to the US in 1912. Three siblings came here, 3 remained in Sicily.
a new grandfather? sounds like an interesting story, beth
Sicily has a fascinating history and the dialect is very different.
BRB, must grab something for lunch.
He abandoned my mom's family and moved across ther river to Troy, NY. That is what we had always been told. The truth seems to be, he already had a wife and 2 sons, moved in with my grandmother where they told everyone they were married, had 4 children, wehreupon he moved back to wife #1 and had one more son the same age as my uncle the baby in my moms family
Wow Beth, what a story.
One of his sons moved to Rio De Janeiro and started a very famous food company there
Fascinating!
My mother's parents (her mother came from Naples) lived in Utica, so close to Troy!
East Utica was all Italian.
Yes Molly, even though it changes nothing it kind of changes everything. All these years of being french, now I'm Sicilian, we believed my moms maiden name was Gauamis, his name was really Giames
And I always thought myfather's surname was British then several yrs ago I found out it's variant of a Swedish name. The initial settler in the US was a physician in Wilmingtom, DE.
clue for de 6/36
seriously? de 7, 36 is a word?? hmmm
Hey, all. :)
The only thing that stayed the same is that he was not a nice man...His own sons were not particularly close to him, and one followed his footsteps in abandoning his wife and family and started an new one as well. They told us his nickname was "caillac Charlie"
hi cg
who dddddddi6 my floor bey walking on it with muddy shoes?
de 6 36 is a person's name
sory sticky key :(
also a tv show, I believe
should I get a gas or electric stove?
My father had always told me that his grandfather had been killed in a coal mine explosion; I was able to google the name of the explosion and found that it was black powder, not coal. My dad was able to visit the site where his grandfather's remains were buried (along with the other three men killed; the explosion was quite violent and only small bits were found)
youre right he is the serial killer on Tv
given a choice go with gas
My vote is for gas, mixi; easier to regulate the temperature.
Apparently, de7/36 means industrious. Sure.
I have always had electric.
ty bethn and uusuew
I have always had electric, also
However, in a power failure a gas stove will still work.
not getting de 6..don't see a girl's name
I have electric now, had gas 40 years ago, but I am getting a new kitchen.
I have a glass-top electric - super easy to clean
it's a guy's name, boo
boobear, not a girl's name, a guy's name
it is amazing what our past holds, we cant imagine my gram not being actually married, her father was a very big hoohaw in his Methodist church, I cannot believe that she "lived in sin" and with a Catholic no less :) . that must have been scandalous to the max back then. the only thing we can think is that they lied and said they maried elsewhere
I bought all new appliances 2 yrs ago. I told my father my price limit, my preferences and he did the research and comparisons. He loves finding the best deals.
oh, those glass-tops do seem very nice, never had one. There are also induction stoves that don't get hot. Never had one of those either.
i like gas because you can go very low or very high in tiny increments, and when you turn off the gas, all the heat is gone not like the burners that remain hot for so long. I cooked with elec for years, but have had a gas stove for a long time and prefer it
I did not want to say i have had gas for years , it sounds to painful
lol beth
my parents have an induction stove... you have to have the right kind of pans for it
yeah those flat bottomed ones right? everything has to make contact
also, cannot be aluminum... must be something a magnet will stick to
I agree with you, beth (about the advantages of gas, at least where stoves are concerned :-)
we are very excited here, my son (the starving artist) is going to be Peter Parker in a 1 night run of a spiderman musical that is being put on in NYC. The author was so offended by the legitimate version costing 65 million and still not ready to officially open, that he came up with an dea, wrote the "book" got volunteers to write the musci found a free venue, got the actors to volunteer for free. It is set to open (and close ) March 14 the day before the official version. so they will have put on a musical in nyc, in 31 days with a zero budget. They are getting all kinds of buzz. Just pray that my son gets a job out of it will you guys? if i get any greyer no amount of lady clairol will do
wow, hope it goes well beth!
Thanks all with you cooking comments.
wow beth... tell him to break a leg!
i have seen small bits of rehearsal, it sounds favulous. If you google the spidey project you should be able to see bits my son is the skinny youn man who alternately needs a shave or haircut
*fabulous
tickets went on sale last night at 12:01 they were sold out by 12:01:30
hi bethn
so cool, bethn! Sorry I can't go!!!
I am hoping someone records it, most of this group of actors was in a play last year by te same playwright that made the NYC fringe festival and took outstanding music award
they are a super talent group actors/singers/musicians.
gooooooooooooood evening fellow babblers xxx
hi frog
hi frogface
Hey, frog.
can anyone give a small clue for the et 6, 18 please?
Sorry, I disappeared. Good luck to Beth's son!
hi all -- back from getting the visitors fed
poetic for everlasting aslindy
deiter
thank you, beth
reed
TY, Beth, for et6
sorry
Already have it, aslindy
de 6/24 please?
Hi Scrabs
clue for the last dr5/12
sorry 2 everyone who said hi - i was MILES away lmao. hellooooooo to you all xxxxx
boo... talks on and on, or a non female insect
hi all
hi mom xxx
still looking for the de 6/24
me too sammys
looks like an alt sp of "to figure out"
de + name of the collidern built in Switzerland/France
did that help?
*collider
it helped me, aslindy - thanks!
didn't help me
what is a collider?
Google to the rescue for the collider's name.
They smash sub atomic particles and create black holes
a collider is a usually large chamber for passing certain things at high speed towards each other (as in the large hadron collider in Europe)
like the chunnel
?
they are using it to try and discover the Higgs Boson particle by thrusting two atoms at each other at nearly 650,000 mph - mad sods!
oh -- just read bichon's note -- there was a movie or TV episode on some show about it I think
however, as i am not a scientist you are all speaking greek to me
im not a scientist - just a sad news freak lol
It would be much more exciting if they used crash test dummies.
can someone give a layman's clue for the de 6/24? -- only thing I could think of for figure out is deduce
Thank you Nan. I thought it was just me reading this and going HUH???
Alright, time to go to friend's house for a walk and then serious table tennis!
it's the name of the lab not of the collider itself
the Higgs Boson particle isn't a proven thing, they are trying to prove its existence. However it hasnt been discovered in two years of trying, one theory being that time (from the future) is enfolding on the experiment and not allowing it to occur in case it implodes the universe
as i said, silly sods!
molly -- I think we just wandered on to the set of Big Bang Theory
they have so far spent £6.2billion on it - i could find a much better use
de?+ce4 change the last letter
ty beth
and the reason they are looking for it is because they want to slow down the ageing process - they should just spend £5 on a phone call and ask Joan Rivers the secret pmsl
yvw
so youre saying the higgs boson particle is botox and plastic surgery :) ?
I thought the collider was supposed to revolutionise space travel (black holes, warp speed - all that Star Trek stuff).
not exactly - nobody really knows what the particle is capable of - but the two main probabilites are reversing the ageing process and also to be able to create so called warp speed
They were working on finding a Higgs Boson at the Fermilab in the US before the Hadron collider got started - but failed.
i think they should stop really - they've wasted enough money - they could spend that looking for a cure for aids or cancer or feeding the world. its wrong, in my opinion
they think it's what gives matter mass
clue for en 7 please
I'm with you frog face... there are much better (and mor humanitarian) ways to spend billions
Well, if Horton heard a Who, there may well very be a Higgs Boson out there.
doorways cad
boo, sorry
lol - okay I needed that one too
oh wait - actually I didn't
: )
lol - having quite a morning here...
gee, I step away and all of a sudden everybody is jumping all over my research1 :-)
ok, the 1 was supposed to be a !
You're the Physics pro uusue2?
and Cad is correct, it is thought that the Higgs boson is the explanation for the masses of elementary particles
I am, Cad/
.
(fingers are not obeying me today)
I actually did work at the lab in question for several years although I quit doing research about 10 years ago, got into administrative positions instead (talk about a waste of money!)
found en 7.. what you call the things you write in your diary
Are you a University prof or?
besides theoretical knowledge sue, is there value in the actual discovery of higgs boson?
Ha. I was going to blame cats for the masses. Every time I find a regurgitated or excreted substance on the floor, I always ask the animals: "Who's responsible for these masses?!"
not at the moment, beth, it is pretty much pure knowledge
Most of the immediate benefits come from the tools we design to do the work we do. The World Wide Web, for example, was invented by a physicist to facilitate communication between physicists on large experiments.
university prof, yes, cad
thanks sue, physics knowledge is not my strong suit
and I don't disagree that it is a lot of money; one of the reasons I switched to spending more time on teaching is that it seems of more direct benefit.
can someone clue the or6 for NBT
did i read that you have been in Millington sue? my sons girlfriend is from there.
So now I am more interested in teaching, and in public science literacy - I do a lot of talking to groups and whatnot
beth, I am still in Millington, leaving tomorrow, that's where my dad lives
or+ei4
CadFan I have been gone for a couple of months why do you have candles in memory of nancy boy what happened!
Just checking out your page :). The "physicsy" folks in this department are into EUV research - we've got an NSF sponsored ERC here
next time you are here we should meet for lunch. I am in rockaway
Speedfreek - he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly
sounds like fun, beth! I met dorens last night for coffee...
oh, i don't have that ei, bethn. can you clue?
and thx for the ei4, didn't realize that was a word :-)
OMG I am so sorry to hear that How tragic...
wait, yes i do
nevermind!
nbt!
yay, helena!
interesting about your physics-y folk, cad! We are everywhere (cue scary music...)
LOL - our lasers and optics program is gaining ground - but it's got a ways to go to catch up with traditional EE and Computer Engineering.
at least as far as number of students
are you at a university, Cad?
Yes - CSU in Fort Collins, CO
oh, cool. My son is an EE major at my university (nice for him to have a mom who can help him with his physics homework...)
back for a couple
that and his Emag when he gets to it :)
Right :-)
Hi, ruby!
Must be off for a bit - we've got potential grad students visiting today and I must meet with them. BBL
bye, Cad!
hi and bye cad
does anybody have a clue for the 9?
Bye cad.
re + things that you would send in for a contest
thank you, sue
yw :-)
I'm stuck at 123. Good night everybody
nite ruby sweet dreams
'night, ruby!
Miss Truvy, I promise that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair.
oops that was for an IM sorry
Is that from Steel Magnolias?
yes lol im watching it now.. its the official movie for gay men :P
I totally LOVE a man who can quote Steel Magnolias.
lol its one of my favorite movies ever
I am such a nerd to know that...
Ooh I just said a word! PB for me!
its the armadillo cake scene!
I love how they briefly paired Sally Field and Tom Skerrit again in "Brothers & Sisters".
sally field is amazing but... she plays the same role in every movie basically
Not in "Sybil" she didn't.
true. true.. i guess im talking about her more recent roles.. shes typecast as "super-mom"
janice van meter and her two pigs dancing lol
thx, jess, didn't realize it was in the grid :-)
yw
yay the cr7's were easy
how many are there, cos?
2
de7 is easy too but weird
can you clue one of the cr7s?
i have a 6...
di7's are easy too
Hello all :)
a cr7 is past tense of a cr6...
hmmm, i must not have that 6
and the first cr is.. cr + vowel + when u get in a car accident ur bumper is **** (a de word)
cr7 is past tense of a word that means sang, like an old country sing would do it
thanks!
Hey everybody. Thanks for the clues :-)
Hi Soodlebum
de7 clue cosdem?
The piece of paper that says you own your house + superlative ending
And yes, it's a very weird word.
thanks molly.. i was outside getting mail or id have clued.. s orry!
Any good mail? Or only junk and bills?
Oodle Toodle Soodle Bum!
one junky ad for tax income place
thanks - no def for that word of course
thx, all!
we're waiting for our ballots for Mayor.. the city is doing an all mail-in election this year.
Just about to go out with dad, bbl
well, the de7 rhymes with another 7 at least, that i didn't have but found at the same time
have fun sue!
Hey there, Miss Moll, Sue et al. Cos - I loved your Steel Magnolias monologue :-)
aww shelby just told m'lynn shes pregnant.
he's doing really well - was sanding the ends of the stair rail we bought yesterday. He decided that he could make his own stair rail, thankyouverymuch.
Julia Roberts was SO young in that movie.
CO springs, cos? My first inlaws lived there.
yeah.. the town grows on you... and its only a 1/2 hour drive to denver
Thats so good, Sue. Yay for Sue's Dad!!
ok we are off!!!
I haven't seen Steel Magnolias in years.... I must watch out for it on satellite.... I watched Beaches last night, and bawled my eyes out!
soodle its on encore right now which means itll be on again a few times
beaches -- awww i love that one too
Thats you sorted for a while, Cos!!
Hi Soodle
Hi Boo :-)
the only reason people are nice to me is because i have more money than god!
For a few glorious seconds there, I thought you were speaking as Cos.........
haha no... shirley maclaine
Nice owl, Boo....
I love the part at the end where Clairee is telling Jack the story about the Evil Weezer.
i liked the easter bunny on the motorcycle
does anyone have a clue for se 4/9
gender and cross
cross letter i mean
ty
Hi Soodle. I got my new puppies
seer
doh, silly me
bichy has to go to the pb :P
oops to the pb bichon
brb running to the red box. i love living next door to one..
Don't go to the PB yet, Bich.... tell me about the puppies.....
Marco and Polo, rescue dogs from Small Paws Rescue. They're approx. a little over a year. Found wandering the streets in Northern California. Bichons, of course
Is that one in your icon?
Yup, that's Marco begging for cheese
Oh, how cute. A real sweetie - and fantastic names as well :-)
There were formerly known as Dexter and Drew. Too stuffy for us
bichy go to the pb again :)
Our Daisy is proving to be totally untrainable. A tail-chaser, and serial indoor pee&pooper. She has my heart broken!
Cos - forgive my ignorance, but what is a 'red box'?
OUrs were in a foster home before we got them, so we knew a lot about them. All boy Bichons like to lift their legs in the house, so they were belly bands some of the time. But the only problem we've had with them is their fear of other dogs. We are taking them to obedience training and have consulted with a dog behavioralist
oh soodle- its like a vending machine for movie rentals.. only $1.00
Thank you,Cos. I was imagining all sorts >:)
its causing all the movie rental stores to go out of business... blockbuster is closing down 5 stores here.. the store by us is selling every movie it has for only 4.99...
Bich...belly bands? ?????
yes, Blockbuster closed down here too. It's Netflix or a redbox
i use both bich!
And you can stream Netflix right to your computer or TV
and to your tivo now ... and playstation.. and xbox...and wii
en7 clue?
There are many en***** in the Kentuck Derby
En and attempts, Cos...
ugh.. and i had the re9 lol thanks
Ah, we have those DVD vending/renting machines here as well.
blockbuster just came out with their own venting machine... so there's 3 competing brands now
aww shelby just went into a coma
firewords. Anyone need a clue?
no.. thanks :)
Woo-hoo Bich! Well done. (But I'm still wondering about the BellyBands)
100 left.
wtg bichon
the 8 words are fun today
Soodle, it's material with velcro on each end. You put a pad up agains the dog's urinary producer and velcro it on.
A doggy diaper? Well! thats a new one on me!
oh i see them at the stores all the time.. its hilarious
myf riend says they do the trick!
The obviously serve a very useful purpose, but do they not encourage to dog to 'pee at will'? Whenever Daisy does her business in the house, I rub her nose in it... She is well aware that what she has done is unacceptable. (Doesn't stop her doing it, but she runs and hides, after the event!).
she only does it when she is out and the dog is home alone
Fantastic idea. I'm surprised nobody has imported them here yet. I am still following Daisy around with a roll of TP and a bottle of disinfectant :-(
maybe u can buy small baby diapers?
LOL Cos.... My diaper days are OVER!! (As I keep telling my teenage kids......)!
lol
ooh i love this scene.. the melt down at the cemetary
BABBLE BREAK *splash*
Hello Jmc :-)
Cos - I'm very glad to see you seem to have got over your Mollie Sugden phase!!
lol
yeah i get in those moods....
How are you feeling, Jmc?
i am fit as a fiddle
Thats good :-)
all medical reports are that i am in good shape except i could stand to lose a few pounds and cut back some on my steaks
:-)
i'll eat your steaks for you
Thats very good to hear. Theres not enough jmcnricks in the world....
*looks around*
So, Cos, what came out of the RedBox on your last visit?
i think i am unique
what is a redbox?
oh they didnt have what i wanted so i will check later.. last night i got "devil".. i want to rent "let me in"
ty soodle it is very sweet of you
redbox -- vending movie rental machine
they're a red box lol
oh i have seen those
i tend to watch things from my computer from netflix
nbs :-)
I am unable to watch films on computer. Computers are for Babble, Emails, Twitter and Facebook. TV's and cinema screens are for films. (I'm just an old fashioned gal :-) )
i cant find the first te 5/12 :(
:-)
I am hip and modern!
sorry cosd
with it cooleo far out
found it
wtg cosd
no wonder.. its a weird word.. it was a typo and it worked lol
clue?
Is that the one with the vowel and double vowel?
te + double vowel + 4th letter
then plural
Yup! Question answered
oh i remember that word from another grid a long time ago
it was killing me
*makes cosd a cup of tea* there there
Oh, Jmc.. I'd love to be hip and modern. All I am is hippy (as in large in the rear) :-(
well i am a hippy and hippy too
hello everyone, just in to change icon for tonight - dashing off to a meeting, be back at flip
I just have a big ass.
it helps that i hang out with mostly people who are under 35
actually mostly under 30
if you get right down to it they are mainly under 25
one just graduated high school
Hello and goodbye Flosey :-)
hi again, all!
hi uu
lol love the icon uu
Hiya Sue :-) You getting ready to go home?
fireworks!
Yabba-Dabba-Doo, Cos! Well done :-)
yes, I'm leaving tomorrow - it will be a little strange to be home, and away from dad...
At least you will be leaving with a good feeling, Sue. Your Dad is doing well, and you got him over a difficult period. Well done you!
thx, soodle. It has been good to be here.
de 6/36 plz
de + high point letter + beginning of sea bird
hi again -popping in to say hi and to say bye to sue - sorry we didn't get together this time, maybe next
whoo hooo cosd!
I was distracted by the whole no heat/new furnace thing - couldn't plan an outing
I'll be back in a week although only for a few days...
Things will be less crazy as time goes on JBV
what did you finally wind up with, JBV?
ty uusue!
but what kind of bird? a sandpiper?
btw - I am trying to open up a file on the work servers; I swear the internet signals are being carried by gerbils. it is SO SLOW!!!
no, one of the usual babble birds
lol i always found gerbils fast
the guys are still here so the job is not done yet, they are installing a new gas furnace, coil and AC compressor
got ty
the usual babble birds are sandpipers
i think
fireworks
well, at least it is not as cold today, hopefully they will be finished soon, JBV!
my brother-in-law also came down to be here to deal with them before I have to hand over the check - very helpful, he's a genius at these things
yay, boo!
whoo hooo booo!
we're wearing double sweaters, it's not too bad
a good b-i-l to have
he's a gem
oh, good, JBV (about your b-i-l) - it always helps to have another set of eyes and ears about
*hands jbv a hot cup of tea*
I'll have to think of something special to thank him and my sister (who now has to get a co-worker to drive her home)
oh yes! flowers? oh oh a coupon for a night at a romantic hotel?
thanks, jmc, I'm drinking MBT broth right now :) - I'll heat up the tea later
JVB, I am quite sure they are only too happy to help.
just let the steam warm your hands
maybe a coupon for a dinner at their favorite restaurant
if you go on line sometimes you can get coupons for less than face value
i gave out 5 coupons for $25 for restaurants that cost me $5 each
my sister has been fantastic- she stayed with me a whole week when my husband died, they don't live so close so I've seen her only once since then
good idea, jmc
it is good to have family like that JBV
in my family it only enhanced the value of the coupon when I told them how little I paid for it
Oh boy! Aren't sisters great? I am lucky to have one of the best sisters in the world. Consider yourself blessed to have a good sister, JBV.
my sister would love that - she is a real penny-wise person
yay for sisters - very very lucky, Soodle
Amen!
in fact she's the one who suggested I negotiate a discount for paying cash - they were offering no interest for one year, she said, there must be a discount if you pay it all, and yes, 5% off total, so I definitely want to thank her
hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel a song coming on.... Sisters, sisters..... (and I'm not talking nuns!!!!)
hi, lillion
what are you doing
Hello Lilion
Great sister, JBV! Definitely you should do something nice for them :-)
babbling, what are you doing?
hello
hi, uusue, JBV, soodle, et al. I vote bot or orange alert.
Hi DC. Nice to see you :-)
hi seain
evening all - i got fireworks earlier but felt like coming back for a chat
hi, dc!
hi, kazz!
hows everyone tonight - lots of longer words today
hey kazzer and uusue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi, Kazz, me too - stopped in to chat
I also turned down another offer for a consulting contract today - don't they know I LIKE being retired?? ;)
where did you go jbv
eeeewww - i wish i could afford to retire - must work for the man for at least 2 more years - then i might be able to go and look forwrd to staying in be till 10 am
go? nowhere, lil - someone called me to offer a job and I said No, thanks
Hello Kazz.
actually, I still get up earlier, Kazz - only difference is the time is now all my own
hi Soods - are you finished or still plugging away
yes i will probably do the same - get to speak to more folks on babble that way
Oh! Pluggin' away. Trudging!
yeah, i figure another 10 years and maybe i can retire, unless the state reneges on its pension obligations in which case i may never retire
if you want any clues let me know
Pshw. Retire my ass. I'm gonna win the national lottery any day now, and live the l ife I deserve. Its only a matter of time.....
weeell UUsue - I work for the government and i can retire at 60 but they have just up the state pnesion age to 66 for me and have also abolished the rule that said you had to retire at 65 -
publishers clearing house for me, you can enter online for free
i'm gonna win the euro millions and then tell work where to stick it
its £51 million tonight
You and me, Kazz! I have my speech written, my plans made, in fact, everything is in place, except for those 7 wretched numbers.....
soodle - do you do the euromillions - how much does it cost in euros
As usual, Kaz, in this country, they hoodwink us. It costs €1.00 per line, but there is a euromillions extra draw, which costs an extra .50cent.
OMG.. The Committments (20 years later are on TV) Sounding more soulful than ever.... The lead singer has lost heaps of weight and hair... but sounds better than ever....
hmm - it costs us £2 but that includes a 50p towards the thing that guarantees a millionaire every week
hi, kaz. i'm bak, sorry got distracted.
Does anyone here remember the film The Committments?
fortnight ago the syndicate i am in won £27.40 - makes our winnigs for this year £47.40 - which is pretty poor bu better than this time last year
Soodle, I have big love for The Committments.
yes i do
hi folks
hi, welki
we are listiening to lovely music instead of having the tv on in the background it is lovely
hi weiki
music is much nicer than the tv, i agree
i luv music
The band have reformed, and are playing on Irish TV right now..... blooming fan-bloody-tastic.
never heard of them
i want a new job :-(

(hanging head in shame as I admit this) I will be taking my 16 yr old to Dublin next Wednesday to see Justin Beiber.. I will use the couple of hours to go to the cinema to see The Kings Speech.. but resigned to having to listen to the bould Justin all the way home...wee wee wee
i had a mean session in the gym today - my Pt made me walk a mile as quickly as i could - took me 20mins and 42 seconds - eeeww soodle dont fancy him much
you're a good mom, soodle - and the King's Speech is great - you'll have a great time

Well, JBV, it will be a Bieber-fest en route to the concert, a brief respite as I wallow in my Colin Firth dreams at the movie, then anothe Bieber-fest on the way home. I guess I should be happy with the Colin Firth bit!
i hate justin bieber
Studiously ignoring what should be ignored.......

sorry to hear. Pain is always difficult
*Passes the heating pad to TO*
yoga helped a bit but was painful in beginning and in some positions
ty molly
hi, molly
Hi Seain
so, much, much stretching was/is needed apparently?
yes. and my balance is frighentingly bad
may it heal well for you in time, TO
hello all
ty.
TO -- have you tried tai chi? I hear it's good for balance and probably not hard on backs.
oh, good suggestion, jilli. and good afternoon
i am considering it but first must find out why
nice to see you as always, dc
why what, TO?
Tai chi is gentle, and can be done as a meditative/stretching art, or as a martial art. The former is derived from the latter.
why is it as bad as it is
ah, cause of the back strain/problem. makes sense.
I remember seeing groups of Chinese doing it on sidewalks in Shanghai when I was a kid. My mother called it shadow boxing.
well it was pretty bad before too
There was a Vietnamese man who lived near my home subway stop that did tai chi on his side porch every morning in all kinds of weather. Slow as he moved, he was steaming in the snowy weather. And much less dressed than one would expect for weather that cold.
Wow -- and a Vietnamese wouldn't be used to cold weather!
oh, that was in Boston, for reference :)
quite so, jilli. though i think he'd lived there since the war.
on that note, i must away to me evening plans.
lovely to see everyone. Be well, yall!
{poof}
ooh, have fun!
thanks {re-poof}
I'm still not used to cold and much more tolerant of heat than most people here. I looked at the globe recently and saw that Shanghai is on the same latitude as Jacksonville, Florida.
bye dc!
wow, who knew?
I didn't, lol!
fw
anyone here? anyone need clues?
guess not -- so bye for now...*poof*
You wanna hear about an addiction to Babble?
Hello Kap. I've been redecorating the PB.
I was at a conference all day and I don't have any fancy i-phone or device for going on line...
So I drew grids in my notebook and looked for words
So I drew grids in my notebook and looked for words
So I drew grids in my notebook and looked for words
Is that sick or what?
Sorry I said that 3 times.
very funny kap
Actually, I find it a clever way to pass the time without electronics.
well kap if wecommented, it would be the pots calling the kettle black
hi Kap, I do that when I'm traveling in the car or somewhere I don't have internet access
Wait until some archeologist finds a Babble grid on a cave wall.
Ha ha ha!
Anything redeeming at the conference?
Annual Harvard Addictions conference
now that part is funny
all day tomorrow too
And I'm guessing you were the guest lecturer on word game addiction. : P
so you were struggling with a babble addiction at an additions conference!
This is strange to you?
Not one bit. I'd love to see Harvard. It looks like a beautiful place.
Actually it was at the Park Plaza
Last year my wallet was stolen at the same conference
Did you ever wonder why no one has invented Lo-Jack for wallets?
rdies
sorry- my cursor jumped
hi
So in my grids I didn't know how many words there were or how long.
no lickety huh
AND NO CHOG
You mean you didn't have a little side bar where you wrote notes to yourself, and then answered them? No fun.
No- I just whispered with people
In real time
I mean in person
that sounds like fun
Did you see any janitors working out complex Math equations on hallway bulletin boards?
I told you it wasn't aAT harvard, it was at the Park Plaza, and anyway that would be MIT
more ot the point: did you see nayone as cute os matt damon?
I know Matt Damon's mom.
He grew up in Cambridge
That's pretty cool Kap. She must be a proud Mom.
We never talk about it...
which must sound weird but we go to the same health club and she is a accomplished person in her own right
I almost feel like I said too much here...
Somebody who lives near me might have enough info
to figure out who I am
You know I'm Jen Aniston's mom.
I know nothing. Kaplan who?
;)
Ooo, that means you had a night of bliss with the ultra suave John Aniston. Very cool.
Victor Kiriakis himself.
One of the redeeming things about my soap addiction days.
Hope Brady?
No, but I had a rockin' hard crush on Bo.
John Aniston always gets to call people "whore" and "tramp." It's so retro.
I mean, as Victor.
I just love the way he says Kiriakis.
Kee-dee-akis
And speaking of Victor, I always knew Caroline Brady had her "tart side". : P
There is some of the worst plastic surgery ever on daytime tv
Any more closet soap fans here?
No one will admit it anyway.
I'm in recovery Kap. Haven't watched them in years. But DAYS was always my number one.
I'm sorry, are we boring you?
I did cry when I heard that Frances Reid died. She was my TV Gran.
Into her 90's they would prop her up and bring her on the show. I wonder if she knew who all those people were
I know you're not supposed to make jokes about Frances Reid, but really...and I always wonder about the toddlers they have on the show- with all that emoting and calling them by their soapnames- doesn't it get confusing?
I have a funny Days Of Our Lives story. I used to have a friend who watched DAYS when her kids were little. One day, her 4-year-old said, "Mommy, it's time for dumb old carrot." Turns out, back when they did the original intro, the boy was hearing "This is dumb old carrot (really McDonald Carey) and these are the days of our lives.
lol
Someone has to do a study of identity formation in kids who spent their infancy acting on soaps. I gotta go. Dinner.
hi all. any clues for the 8s and 9?

**opening closet door** was a soap fan for many years. Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Ryan's Hope, Loving, All My Children and Young and the Restless. Was raised on As the World Turns
and hello everyone
hello there
Hi wvteach
never watched any soaps but recognize the names
I haven't seen a soap since 1993. Bet I could turn them on today and not much would have changed
why did you stop?
our neighbor passed away and his wife and son had died the previous year and I helped his daughter in law clear out the house and stuff like that

Hi everyone ! This is my first Babble grid EVER ... have 80 words to go, and am stuck ... not sure how to ask for help from you guys. Any suggestions ?
good night Mary
and I obviously also don't know how to include an avatar or the US flag ... sigh ...
evening all
welcome JudyHall.
you have to become PRO to get a flag.
Hi Pini
(to add an icon and flag, you need to go 'pro')
hi mom :)
sweet dreams, Mom
ah ... well, we'll have to see how things go, I guess :)
pleasant dreams LBD
hi Pini, welcome JudyHall
Judy, you can get a list of clues (the first 2 letters of each word, their length, and point value) by clicking on Lickety's Babble Clues below the "Friends of Babble".
hi lbd ;)
Judy, you will be back, it is hard to stay away. There is a link under the tile stats .... Lickety's Babble Clues
Hi Mary
or what Pini said.
if you get stuck, just tell us the stats (xx0/0) of the word you'd like help with...
assimilation is inevitable, resistance is futile...and for the one low, low price of abt $15 USD, you, too, can have a lifetime of Babble fun and connections to a great community of friends :)
* winks at the others players * How'd I do??? :)
Thanks, Pinikula, but I'm not sure what (xx0/0) means ... I think xx are the first two letters ??
yes, judy
great
Perfect Pini!
Yes, I think I could get addicted to this game :)
and the great people !
definitely the people
We are a fun bunch! ;)
and the chat
Yes, I can see that you are a great bunch ! A few friends of mine recommended the game, and I finally decided to take a gander at it ...
we are all definitely a new shade of loony!
...well, you've got some good friends!!!
Kate and Judy M. DEFINITELY recommended the people :)
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
yes, mcurl...an interesting lot we are! LOL
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
hi min ;)
good - and you?
how've ya been pini?
soooo busy, mcurl...am thankful it's the weekend
thought I was getting my computer back yesterday, but that didn't work out...
darn on the computer; I am thankful for the weekend as well. My little guy has been a little rough the last several weeks
...they came and picked it up again this morning because they failed to recover/reload some serious files. I lost about 50 pages of working notes (tasks to get done and other assorted critical notes)
sorry to hear mcurl...do hope he feels better soon!
(when I learned about the missing program / files, I about threw up it made me so sick)
longest phantom of my existence.... refectories
well, nothing that an attitude adjustment wouldn't help or a swift kick in the pants.....but you know can't do those sort of things in school!
nice dorens! (btw HI)
oh sorry to hear that pini... that can be a problem
good point, mcurl...how about severe detention? at school or home?
*sends dorens to catholic school*
hey ru
you're a few years too late now ru
well, he definitely gets that at home; his mom takes everything away but only so much you can do at school with special needs kids
oh
darn
true, mcurl...
was hoping for a few hail maries from youo
<-- survived parochial schools...
the good news... I am most likely to have my job back next year. The BETTER news!! they are trying to have two counselors again, so my head won't keep spinning!
congrats, dorens!!!
wow.. that is super news doren
great news dorens
most excellent news!
ditto what pini said!
it will be, particularly if they bring back a second counselor! i
psycho-vertigo will be gone
* fingers crossed *
of course this depends on the budget being passed, which could be iffy... but last year i wasn't even in the budget.
psycho will still be here, even if I can dispense with the vertigo
lol
well you did get rid of a couple hundred pounds of ugly fat
you dumped ken
you talkin' 'bout me, ru?
no her ex-boyfriend
oh, most definitely not me ;) * sigh of relief *
funny you should say that.... I am planning on trying to do some kind of diet real soon... have inched up another ten pounds, and I ws just getting used to last year's weight.
that was a joke doren
you look great
now now ru! he might have been dead weight, but not ugly. and certainly not fat. the man was so trim it was disgusting... used to run miles and miles
Doing a diet right now...using Calorie Counter on line and loving it!
oh..
hi sistah
{{Pini}}
ok then 180 lbs of dead weight then
(is JudyHall still around? if so, everyone say, 'hello'...a new player!)
any relation to annie?
i hate that kind of thing. and i am usually pretty careful about what i eat... so there really isn't much to cut out, except my nightly red wine and one measly square of dark chocolate!
or monty?
not sure, ru...you'll have to ask! :)
Then live with the 10 lb and enjoy!!!!!
*hides chocolates from doren*
ok who can clue the re9. and NO, car, I can NOT enjoy, so will have to start upping the exercise

re 9 - what space shuttle does when it comes back to earth
I think I want a really nice bottle of wine tonight
was just thinking of you, doren
what does "e7" and "re9" mean ?
only nice things owl i'm sure. and i was talking about you and ru last nite

I heard Dorens! She was so pleased!
i would gladly spllit it with you ru. just came back from this very relaxing yoga class, and was thinking i ddon't even need wine tonite.. quite mellow
hi ru, TO, Car and Dorens. UU was so pleased to have met you Dorens.
Hi Dawg!
ah ... found Lickety's Clues ... now to absorb what it all means ... THANK YOU !!
did that help, Judy?
however, if you're pouring, and need someone to help you help finish the bottle......
hi lbd
yell if you need help, Judy ;)
..need to open one first doren..lol
had a nice time with her... mentioned the many babblers i have met... would love to meet more, actually. and her dad is a terrific fellow... if he lived a bit closer i'd probably go check in on him frm time to time
oh.
Thanks, Pini (hope it OK that I call you what the others do ...)
so what is the really nice bottle for tonite, ru?
it's nice she is close to him and they get along.
of course, Judy!
not sure.. I have to see what I'm making for dinner..probably a nice burgundy
i took yoga at lunch and i fell out for at least 3 minutes.totally out
they really have a lovely relationship... made me remember and miss my dad
Judy we are not very formal around here. lots of giggles and leg pulling.
i just had salmon, bok choy, and snow peas... and no wine at all
let me know what time you're serving, ru ;)
I don't miss mine.. but am glad others have a nice relationship
8 oclock pini
head on down
oh, if only I could make it!
you'd have really enjoyed my dad ru... loved punning, but a very gentle soul
I am on hiatus from punning
* gasp * no!
you? can you really do that?
i know you can do with out wine for two weeks, but punning?
say it isn't so....no punning?
yep.. I crossed the line the other day.. thought I'd take a break for a while
uh oh
ohhhh.. i can so easily picture you crossing the line.... hope none of the sensitive souls were around
just a few
oooops
ouch
(I'm sure it wasn't meant to offend tho)
no.. but it was pretty sicko
.. but it's not like I'm Charlie Sheen or anything like that...
i think most people know these things just pop out and you don't meann them. but if you feel you need to stop for a bit, what the heck... we'll love you anyway
does anyone here have fios and hear of a movie night promotion for tonight?
no fios sorry.
how can we not love, ru!?!?
what's a fio?
I haven't, TO

not as sorry as I, piini. but thanks
But I had a really big thrill today - when my cousin from Italy SKYPED me with a big surprise - his mother (my aunt, who is 92 years old) was with him, which was totally unexpected - I haven't seen her since 1973!
that is lovely
too cool, jbv!!!
She's visiting him - which I did not know about until today - we were crying and laughing - too incredible!

sweet dreams TO, doren and JBV... hey whoever's here? *tosses choclits at LBD*
hi stiddy
hey wild! how are you this evening? I am taking the WHOLE evening off tonight!
Accepts choclits ..
yay for you! I'm exhausted. We had the first round of state testing this week
ick. that is so exhausting for everyone. how are the kids doing?
((((HUGS TOR))))
managing. everyone is sick of test stress already. one more week then SPRING BREAK
hiya stiddy and Torg and wild!
woo-hoo for spring break!!! I get mine probably first week in April.
We do our state testing in April-May usually.
ergh, tests before spring break!
most of ours is as well, but the writing test is always earlier because the compositions are hand-scored
oh, I see. I helped score district-wide "classroom based assessments" in writing once. VERY educational. And VERY time-consuming!
But, to be honest I thought they were a better measure of student skill and knowledge than the traditional multiple choice tests
hi lbd
it's just all stressful - for students and teachers alike
and on top of that I've been dealing with a little health issue of my own
**gentle hugs for wildcat**
(((wild)))
tea? juice? ginger ale? aspirin? tylenol? vitamin C? *checks supplies* bandages, iodine....
awww ty
not that kind of issue ... had a little surgery last week
oh. dear *worried mama look* well, I hope you heal fully and soon!
dite
oops... *trudges to PB*
tyvm things are better this week
Hi stid and wildcat!! I hope you feel better soon wildcat
hi bugs and ty
hey bugs! ((bugs hugs))
brb, tom has brought me some noodles for supper. *lurk mode engaged*
yay for tom
yep. those were good. okay, I am down to 81. how obsessed with the puzzle should I be? get one more... or eleven more? I think I will be long asleep before the next hour passes.
puzzle shouldn't be a source of stress **wildcat gives stiddy the worried mama look**
whatever you choose to do stid, i hope it is what you want to do now that the stress of the Masters is over.
LOL thanks wild, I just saw three words, will get down to 70, then stop. It's my joy to play, just too tired to finish. BUT want to have a minor sense of control.
Do you just have to defend it now or is that part done too
ooh, stiddy are you done for the quarter?
I know that feeling. have 8 left and they're killing me but I'm soooooo tired
(((bugs))) thanks. The only thing left for me to worry about is the student teaching next quarter, and of course the semi-professional presentation on Tuesday.
anagram the tired and get a few more
*st5 mama look at wild* now young lady...
I can sleep on the keyboard
you'll do just fine on the presentation, stid, and no worries about student teaching.
glad to clue if wanted
Hi there everyone.
I'm not sure it was the brightest idea to work a full week this week but with the testing I didn't feel like I had a choice
or ne6. hi peach
(((LBD))) I _always_ worry... it's in my nature! LOL but yes, it's got to be better than in the autumn. If it isn't, I really will quit!
I'm missing a V
you belong in the classroom stid so forget all worries from now on! YAY stid ! !!!
one who wears the ve4, wild
No actual "defense" bugs, but a rather intimidating presentation before faculty and invited guests (such as the board that certifies the program). . . but no pressure, right? LOL
there is one vi word
of course not stid
ty lbd
as passionate as you are about your teaching, you will be awesome, stiddy
need one more 8 not sure which one tho
that cleared out my V words, too! :-D
canvas shelter + vowel + superlative
here defending means to present it to those people who try to find loopholes or faulty logic. If you and your advisor were both on the ball, it is just a presentation. I will hold you in the light that day hoping you will be calm and straightforward.
thanks bugs - yes, it's "just" a presentation, bugs. (luckily)
have that T - could be a C or D or another T
most covered in soil, di8
and more covered in soil, too.
di + sleeveless jacket + pt
ty how I missed that one I'll never know
hi lbd!!
hiya bugs!
cuz you're tired, wild
tired all day?
I do need one more T from the top one
I am down to 70! *proud mama look*
yay stid!
(((hugs and choclits for all))) see you-all tomorrow a good bit while I am working on my presentation slides. (((more hugs))) *poof*
you should be proud stid. this grid is weird
nite stid
my phantom is divide
there is an odd te 6 before the bears, wildcat
May I please have a clue for de6-24? Thanks
sweet sleeps, stiddy

thanks lbd ! feeling better now
oo just got the money one for cr!
how ya doing there, wild?
one D7 left ty.
and wondering in amazement that my older son invited his younger brother to double date with him tonight
oooh, that should be interesting!
the di7's have to do with being soiled
could be. they're just going out for dinner as far as I know
don't you love it when they grow up enough to show that they love each other?!
I got my last one and fireflies
I do bugs
I was gobsmacked when the eldest asked his brother to move in with him when things were tough for the younger one.
I'm sure you were.
whooooo hoooooo WILD!!!
Congrats wildcat!!!!!
of course, he ended up moving out on him in the middle of the night to face the landlady by himself when he couldn't stand the younger one any more....
I didn't know how to feel then. Can't take sides as a mother
YAY wildcat!!
yes, it is nice to see siblings getting to know each other as people instead of punching bags
no it's not allowed is it. you take the bad with the good and hope it all evens out somehow
crumths, only re words left . I hate re words
they aren't too bad for re's, bugs
they really weren't bugs. you
you'll breeze right through them
have 17 of them to find but I ususally just go down my list adding re to the words and that finds most of them
that should get most of them, bugs
seems to be working so far. Thanks to both of you for the encouragement
with 36 left i am bowing out. got the 8s and the 9, so i'm happy
well done, speller!
thx lbd - gn all
well done speller!! that is an achievement for sure
Sweet dreams, speller.
May I please have a clue for re5-14 the 2nd? Thanks
night night, speller
That should be re5-14 the 3rd....Thanks
pt of the 4.5, peach
Thanks, lbdawger, I made a mistake on that one....need the 3rd re5-14. Sorry

missing 4 te's aand about to crash
te 5/12 please?
te, double vowel, 2-point letter. And plural.
* the first one
that is the first one.
ty sue
te 6/21 following the singer?
add a consonant to the te5/12
(not the plural consonant)
ty again
i'm not finding the 5/12, which makes me feel silly...
i did find a te 7/36 though, so i guess that's okay
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :) Good night
well, I just realized i'm missing the te6/21 following the singer, so I'm not sure how I helped nan...
lol
sleep sweet, nan
that te is the number + beginning of what you do as a pastime
ah. a non-word if I ever saw one :-P
the hedgehog?
that's a six letter....
oh, you were probably cluing the 6 for uusue, sorry. the te5/12 that was clued a while back; is there a different clue for it? thanks
well, if you have a ti6/21, omit the i.
i don't... hmm.
if not it's one of those old-fashioned words that has to do with three.
and fireworks!!!
yay, uusue!
ti7/36????? completely at a loss...
past tense of the ti6/21 just before it
thank you. may i have a clue for the ti6/21? you can see my dilemma.
another old-fashioned word that has to do with three - ecclesiastical, I think
if you replaced the t with an f it would be an adjective describing a lion
thanks very much. i should be able to figure that out.
Oh yay. I have now found the 9 and one 8 with no help...i like when I can do that. rare.
yay, red!
hi red
really need to change my icon. Hi jes
jes, I am thinking of adopting a cat. WOuld it be better to get a kitten or an older cat with my dog? He has never really been exposed to cats.
hard to say. I tend to prefer young adult adoptees, myself--they tend to be less trouble and training than a baby
red, I adopted a dog into a household that already included two cats (who hate each other); they both hate the dog but all manage to stay out of each others' way.
an older cat may also be more likely to stand up to the dog instead of running, and running is likely to incite chasing.
thats what I was wondering about...I would prefer not chasing.
its that period of adjustment...
either way, you should manage the intros carefully to avoid any panic/running
keep the dog on a leash, let the cat approach it
keeping them in adjacent rooms with a baby gate the dog can't get past so they can sniff each other without the cat feeling threatened might be helpful
I have a plan to also put up a dog gate and never ever let my dog upstairs, and thus have a totally dog free zone that the cat can retreat to, which is large...
the reason for no dog is that there is carpet upstairs...
if you're going to divide the house anyway, i would start the cat upstairs and let it come down on its own to meet the dog when it wants
i'm also in favor of adopting adults because everyone wants kittens, and there are many, many really sweet adults out there that go unadopted for ages because people insist on getting kittens instead.
is the cat going to be allowed outside?
No outside....it just isnt very safe.
ok. you can trim claws and/or put soft paws on the cat to minimize risk of injury to the dog.
hey all i am going to bed, see you tomorrow!!
gn uuse.
I would like to let the cat out, but...I know it isnt best for the cat. I hate litter boxes.
sleep sweet, uusue
litter boxes aren't terribly fun. but then, neither is scraping your cat off of the road...
indeed.
i recommend a non-clay litter; lots less dust, and doesn't smell like litter box
i use pine pellets, myself, though there are paper pellets and cob and wheat chaff litters available also
sounds good. And if the home sale goes through I will be able to at least put the litter box in a room that is rarely used...
9 left, and most of them are t's
de6,24?
nm. i thought there was an s in that word, but apparently not.
to take a look at an understand jes.de 6.
