flosey -- started the day with a hospital visit to get a dressing changed. Idiot doc (I'll soon be rid) had put on a clumsy one with gauze which stuck and peeling it off hurt like hell -- said to change it every day.. Nice nurse at the hospital put a great and comfy one on which will be fine for a week -- said nurses know much more about dressings than docs do -- certainly right in this case!
wow, jilli, you were lucky there, and yes, I believe there are many things that nurses are better at than docs

I don't dare pick him up, ruru, or I might!
how many ca 7's?
ca7 x 3, dee
ty vm jili I was confused
jilli, that isn't the cat you looked after while your neighbour was away?
No, flosey -- it's the beautiful burmese down the street at the corner who spends most of his time outside hunting birds and visiting my place.
ah, not as friendly!
The next-door cat is dear little Russian Blue who is indoors most of the time.
burmese..is it a muslim cat?
The trouble is, the beautiful burmese is VERY friendly and has always been very affectionate with me -- wanting cuddles and if he gets into my house, follows me everywhere. Very strange that he bit me so hard for no reason I can figure out.
yes, that is strange
rur, Burmese are the Golden Retrievers of cats in temperament.
I have never heard of a cat doing that. Do the owners know? Maybe heis is painof somesort
At least, this one always was.
The onwer knows full well -- I phoned her to get me to the hospital becuase I was bleeding all over the place
We are all baffled.
very weird indeed
me too
has he gotten his rabies shots
The owner claims he is all fine.
The owner is a bit in accuarate sometimes.
distemper?
Cats can be weird jilli and bite for little reason
is there a test they can do to make sure you are well in spite of what the owner says?
I meant inaccurate. My typing was too!
Bugs, nobody seemed to think that was necessary.
I am on strong antibiotics because cat bited=s can be very infectious.
then I trust the cat was just in a bad mood, but it is still pretty strange to me
maybe he was a canuck fan?
and didn't like the outcome
Cat was in a lovely mood until then. All cuddly and following me all round the house. I was trying to get him to follow me OUT of the house, having heard (from other neighbours) he had tapeworm. Maybe he was mad when he figured out what I was trying to do...???
That Canuck riot was horrible.
and I don't believe it was the fans that caused the riot
they were just trying to toast the donuts in the police car flosey
No way was it the fans -- it was an organised group of hoodlums and some other drunken jerks.
ah ru, but yes, exactly, what jilli said
The news today showed a police car covered in sticky notes from people thanking the cops for trying to stop it and for being as calm as they were
probably teabaggers jilli
Canadians are mortified.
in the 50 years I've observed the Van. fans, they are the most faithful I've ever known

hi west

I see my name
I see it too ;-)
nick name too
nbs at last!
wtg !!
the nickname counts
sure does
back in Shanghai a friend of my parents had a sailboat by that name (the nickname)
strange name for a Shanghai boat
it wasn't a junk -- a regular sailboat owned by a Brit
not strange in those days
Shanghai Yacht Club
was it named after someone in the family?
one of FDR's veeps was John Nance Garner I think
I don't know -- will look it up if I can find it.
I saw a bit of the clean up of Van on TV volunteers wrote apologies on the boarded up windows
it was hardly covered here
No idea who she was named after but it wouldn't have been an American, and I'm talking early 1930s. I've found a drawing and a description -- a "sloop rigged c. b. 7 ton cabin cruiser"
quite a nice boat
did you ever go out on her?
Yes, once, I think. My mother never did -- she got seasick.
too bad sailing can be so relaxing
Jon was an ocean sailer at the Academy and we 'drags' used to go on practice runs with them
that was so politically incorrect lol
hah I spelled sailor wrong
we were all politically incorrect then
bet you caught that
I didn't -- I'm half asleep!
I know. Sometimes I wonder why so much fuss.
I'll be quiet so you can sleep. shhh
I do have to go to bed soon -- must get up at 9 am which is early for me.
I'm about to go too. Trying to get to 60 left. I could be much faster if I used the list
I have 70 left and I do use the list. Too impatient to struggle.
I did it. See you later, jilli.

good morning all
morning everyone
hi cool.girl
hi sprite rushing on grid got to go to work at 12 and havent even got dressed yet
lol you sound like addiction has stricken ;) Good luck with rushing through the grid!
thanks
good morning everybody
good morning rubyfoo! Sorry, I was busy correcting my foul-up with the icon themes. All well again now.
good. it's always nice to see you!
:) That is a sweet thing to say, thank you.
is it raining there? We have had dark and rainy days, but it's a good thing as the drought was really long and the whole valley was very dry.
Uneaixoise had sent me a couple of new icon themes (bless her!) and I just noticed I had used them to fill up the dates I had not earlier filled... but those dates are already past! Just moved them to the future so we can enjoy them.
The garden is wonderful! Lots of fruit and I've been making jams and jellies
yes, it is raining. Pretty hard. Apart from the temperature it is autumn-like weather
hah, my name is in here!
hehehe yes it is. And I was thinking of our dear Nancy Boy.
uh oh, pb for you!
yeah I know... I gladly go in his remembrance ;)
me, too, and we can lift a glass in his (sweet) memory!
*lifts her glass, smiles and wipes a tear away at the same time*
I'm afraid "thumper" is afoot, so I'll see you later. The first 50 words were a snap....(hands sprite a hankie)
never be afraid, rubyfoo.
hahah
:)
why is royce not a word
hi Saddy! The only meaning of that word I know, is as a part of a car's name... and proper names are never valid.
i know that... lol.. i was just bitching
*giggles* I like bitching about the grid ;)
it boggles my mind just looking at it
yeah, one of the good things of Babble, lol. If your mind gets boggled enough, it expands :)
so why is the royal SPARE prince in the grid? isnt he a proper noun lol
yes he is! But he is also something else, the lucky boy.
what??? i seriously dont know :)
it means to harass or annoy, saddy
oh:)
pippa is certainly not annoyed
speaking of which, i know i am a month or so late.. but did you see the royal wedding
I did, that's four Royal Weddings that have occured in my lifetime now
4?
no I didn't, sorry. It was much too pumped up to my taste. I didn't even watch the wedding of our own royal prince and heir to the throne, to be honest.
Charles and Diana, Andrew and Sarah, Edward and Sophie, and now William and Kate
hi movie my man :) How have you been?
aah.. charles and diana got married before i was born... i was a baby at the other 2
Pretty good all told, just arrived back from a week in Portugal
probably
have the cr8 can i have some clues 4 the ad and the ar8 please
did you enjoy portugal?
clue for the cr8 plz cool girl?
children use them to colour
Certainly did, stayed at a friend's villa in the Algarve
only one I have is ca8, what gives rabbit treats their orange colour.
ty cool girl
thanks cool.girl, got it
am glad you had a good time, movie my man! You deserve it.
thank you very much sprite
ty
argh... I try to make the end of a marriage work here and only now I realise it ne4s a different vowel. How silly of me.
ok I found the ar8. It is a past tense. It is an old (and obsolete) word for begone.
can i have an easier clue sprite
yes, but I will have to really dummy it down, because I cannot think of a good clue. Hold on.
first 4 letters: mix up "of kingly birth" as in the ****L prince. + When you argue: you did so! I did ***. Drop the vowel. that gives you the 6/24. Past tense for the 8.
(darn Haz, or BabbleRabble, where are you when we ne4 you) ;)
got it thanks sprite
wow good! Am glad it worked, it was a clumsy clue.
has anyone got the ad 8 yet please
not yet, but will go look for it now
I think that clue was about as good as its gonna get for that word!!! The ad8 is a little easier: a word meaning 'sufficient'l,
hi Dachef! Thanks :)
and thanks for the clue too, got it
ty
bore da, dachef
wb rubyfoo, did you tame your thumper? The grid has treats for him today.
I wish! we're going out for lunch, so not so bad
ah lovely. can I join you?
please! we could use some witty conversation.....
have to go get ready for work thanks 4 all your help cu all later happy babbling
somehow I think your dear thumper and I would get along just fine
my boyfriend, Capone (a Malinois) lives in the restaurant, so I bring biscuits and get a lot of love from him
bye cool.girl, have a good day at work!
*poof*
aw that is sweet, rubyfoo!
I really like this grid. First part flies by, and then comes the bite.
I have been reading the chog and trying for the 8s, but I cannot get the ca or the ad, please could you clue them again.
hello Jivingjenny, I will try.
ca8: an orange vegetable over the age of 10. ad8: how good you are at this game depends on your level of ad8...
ad8/75: sufficiency. Ends the same way as when something has a lot of room: sp***. ca8/45: think of what rabbits love to eat. Starts with a vehicle, ends in someone who rents a room minus last letter.
any luck, Jivingjenny?
I have just this second found them - sometimes I think the light is out in my head!!
thanks for all your help
lol wtg! And they aren't very common words, so don't feel bad!
now I just need the i for nbt and nbs please
got it thanks
Jiv, think about 'preesing clothes'
too late...lol
not if I can possibly help it diz!! lol
same here
Now I am just over half way, which is always my first goal, and I must do something before my husband comes back and finds me still where he left me lol, poof
morning all - it makes a change for me to be at home on asaturday
morning/evening Kazz
sorry, I was afk for a bit, family demands. Hi dizgrannie!
and hi Kazz too
do you usually work on Saturdays, Kazz?
lol straight into the grid up to the eyebrows?
fireflies, bye all
gw sprite
bye sprite - have a good day
morning, all!
name that proper noun...Mr De Bergerac
{{annie}}
hello everybody, back after a nice quasi-Italian lunch
Hi dear (((ruby))
{{sue}}
How nice to have lunch out
hi, annie and ruby!
and that would be Cyrano :-)
hi uusue
ding ding ding!
is kazzer still here? if yes, hello
nbs and nbt...
ruby, any visitors at chez rubyfoo?
the good news is that we eat lunch out most days; the bad news is that the local, affordable, restaurants are awful
but it beats cooking
hard to imagine awful restaurants in France...
I think it's just our region
Still beats cooking and cleaning up
that's how I feel. I would happily settle for MCD, but they are all too far from our house and husband won't eat burgers from there
I love McD's coffee
I love MCD's everything!
I miss American fast food
name that proper noun,.....city in California
ojai?
and ruby their pancakes are wonderful
when we left the US, MCD didn't have pancakes yet.
oh, you poor thing
<-- loves pancakes
<----------me too
I lived near a Denny's and used to have their wonderful breakfasts with chicken-fried steak
me three but unless we can get gluten free mix they are off the menu at our house
Ah, that was near Binghamton...I ate there once when I went to visit Liz when she was at SUNY Bing....Loved, loved. loved it
california has a lot of cities - can we get a first letter to help us think of it?
my son tries to be on a gluten-free diet but gives it up when he comes to Europe! ?????
to. hurshy
Torrance!
ding ding ding!!!!!!
hahah, sue
ello hurshy
:)
yes, Frank worries about traveling out of the country for that very reason (gluten makes him extremely ill as he has celiac disease)
my son thinks it's because US wheat is too processed. He thought in Italy, it was OK.
happy, my real name is in the grid -- also, our dear departed babble friend, na*** boy
wheat being processed doesn't hurt you, it just is less nutritious, so i don't see why you would avoid it if you don't have a medical reason.
maybe he has an allergy? celiac is an autoimmune disease - Frank doesn't have the ability to digest gluten and his body attacks any cells that contain it if he eats any
my son is a chub and perhaps he thinks avoiding gluten will help him lose weight? I have no idea....
actually, the gluten-free substitutes tend to be more caloric than wheat although eating fruit or veg instead of bread might be a good idea for him
if he doesn't substitute it with other calories, then yes, eliminating something that isn't nutritionally valuable is probably going to help with weight loss
Frank eats tons of butter and sugar but is thin and has very low blood pressure and cholesterol
hmm, i wish i had celiac disease then, lol
you wouldn't think we were even related except he has my (big) hands
no you don't = if he gets even a speck of gluten he has cramps and diarrhea for 3 days
well that's why i added the lol.
yay, half!
ah :-)
yay, ruby!
now, if I could get the bottom a, I would have nbt
hi all...
a + de4
ty hurshy
hi, carlee!
hi sue :)
hello carlee
hi ruby :)
we're a chatty bunch this am i see
personally I am thinking of going back to bed, didn't get much sleep last night
i'm just finding words
just found a nifty ve6/30
i went to bed at 9 pm...and slept until 6:30
clue ruby?
I have two, plus a ve6/33
although all my ve6 are past tense
i only have one so far... but am only 36 words in and waiting for my first coffee
I found a ve7/44 a rising star
debating on a healthy breakfast or a slice of banoffee pie for breakfast..coffee and sugar a sure fire way to jump start the day
coming right up, carlee!
( coffee is dripping ruby ;) )
banoffee pie??
ohhhh i want some banoffee pie!
toffee base on cookie crust and whipped ream and bananas on top
to die for sugar explosion i had not had in over ayear..i finally gave in and made myself one the other day
oh, sounds awful! you'd surely have to hold a gun to my head....lol
mind i let the caramel part get a bit too thick
am i detecting just a hint of sarcasm ruby?
I am a total sucker for anything with toffee or caramel!
http://www.grouprecipes.com/22546/deca dent-banoffee-pie.html
caramelized bananas are one of the great inventions!
ith sweet cream
i dont put cocoa on top..i sprinkle instant coffee crystals on top
r set on fire with grand marnier
not a chocolate person
u could flav the caramel with grand marnier...or the cream...
and the vietnamese bread the bananas and then fry them
getting my coffee and pie... what the hell i have yet another day of working with dvh i best enjoy something of this day
i do hope they find a solution to the banana problem...
there you go, carlee :-)
I am drooling, carlee
what banana problem?
there's some kind of blight that has wiped out bananas in some places and if it spreads as they figure is eventually inevitable, we will no longer have our trusty cavendish banana.
so i hope they find a cure before it hits the remaining banana growing areas.
oh no! we get Cavendish but also little ones from Africa
me too hurshy...( mouth full )
Morning all. Bananas make me queasy, I wouldn't miss them.
morning, molly!
and i am over half way and am going back to bed for a bit.
Oh and I think graham cracker is a much more fun name than digestive biscuits.
hi all, spent several hrs in he hosp yest. having surgery on L wrist. doing well today.
i dont like a plain banana..i agree...queasy..but baking with them...i am fine
excep they are different things molls
{{molly}} my son threatened to move out, when he was in college, if I kept bananas in the house

i like banana cake with cream cheese frosting
hospital, that reminds me. some friends of ours lost their brother in law yesterday - we knew him only slightly - he drank himself into liver failure. he left behind a wife and son. :(

good morning my dear friends.
Hi Trif :)
having one of those Harry Potter moments again.....the Azkaban guards aren't enable accepted, which reminds me again how amazing JK Rowling is at creating words that become part of the lexicon, to those of us who have read the books
Sky Blue Yo**er
ty annie
and our dear departed Boy is in the grid today....God rest his dear soul
I gave a set of Harry Potter to both my grandkids but have yet to read the books. they loved it.
annie, take this advice -- return your phone calls, mail your bills, and get dinner out of the freezer, because you will do little else once you start. They really are excellent books
I really meant to read them...I will make it a summer project
trif, my daughter and sil and loved the books too
you will have so much to talk about with them then! all bridge to grandkids are welcome ones
absolutely
hang on - - not to suggest that you didn't before! just realized that could be read wrong....my bad
Trif I knew exactly what you meant

oh, geez, Jacula, all apologies! Will take my copy of the books and go sit in the PB
Trif - LOL. Okay.
Peri - Oh! Hope it's better soon. x
ty
for the record, we have two sets of the HP books - the American ones, and the original British ones. And the differences are amazing, given that they are supposed written in the same language
using the mouse to lay scramble
Trif - in what way different? I AM surprised.
for starters, one of the British ones is about 100 pages shorter - forget which one. And very strange tweaks all around. I remember a "satsuma" in the B version becoming a "walnut" in the A version, which seemed weird. Tangerine, maybe....walnut?
and the A versions have to spend about a page explaining end-of-term study periods, whereas the B versions just say "they had revisions" of course
How very odd!
innit?
I can understand the school system being explained, since they are quite different but the fruit becoming a nut thing is strange.
Tri - I've seen this in other books, too. It's very interesting to see the way things have to be amended because of perspective
mama, your profile pic is LOVELY!!!!! what little charmers!
ty Trif. They are quite the trio! Happy to have them sleeping in the morning after a late night of baseball and a long night of storms. :)
arrrgh -what is the word for a wine grower? ventnor? vintner? vinter?
good morning, Trif and hi everybody
hello jbv!
Hi JBV.
ventnor is where I go to the beqch in NJ
vintner is he word you want
Ventnor is also a Victorian town on the Isle of Wight.
ok
isle of wright. has anyone seen zoom lately?
thank you! you know when you get to the point where you have tried to enter a word, or at least a bunch of letters, so many times that they stop making sense? or is that just me?
Hi All
hi hego
hello hego
No not just you Trif
Hello hego.
Tri-- totally understand! I had a heck of a time with the a8 word because I wanted to put an "N" in it!
ohhhh, me too! and now I know why it didn't work! bless you, mama!
yw! LOL!
man, this is a grid o' phantoms!
how's this grid?
64 left & I must go for now - lunch, then I have a passionfruit cheesecake to finish making, then grocery shopping to do. TTFN.
wow, jacula -- what time shall we be there for cheese cake?
YUM! :-9
In a couple of hours when the topping has set. LOL
I heart the ca7/40 today
Hmmm...
bl
phantoms: detonate, devotion, tedium, and a whole bunch of others that are driving me mad, jumping like little "you can't get me!" fish....
I hate the almost words. tantalizing.
aqua....have tried that so many times today! Why do I do that? Is enable somehow going to reconsider? sheesh!
Name that Family in Long Day'as Journey Into Night.
i keep trying canyon... ugh!
why is that not a word? It's a color.
Hi Kap. Duuno.
tyrone
yay!
aqua? too many u's
ding ding ding. aqua is a word all right but it's not in the grid.
and good morning all and sundry.
who ever sundry is.
OH, of course.
"menory" should be a word. Not sure of what it should mean, though. Makes me thinks of monks, or priests, for some reason
like penury, maybe
I've always liked the song "Thanks for the Mammaries."
Oh, Kap. ;-)
I am going to a 50th birthday for someone who is an inveterate punster today...
You and Torgone....
My hubby is guilty of punning shamelessly.
you can give them a photo of a hippo, a birdy, and two ewes then
Look at his website: perspicuity.com if you want to see the workings of a genius mind. Especially note the portraits done on etch-a-sketch
I'm just making up stuff and it's being accepted!
Pause while you all look at Perspicuity.com?
Oh, all right
OMG I am IN LOVE with this guy, Kaplan! Cannot WAIT to show Primo! I am going to take a break to go look at his excellent site. thank you SO MUCH for sharing! And Harvard Square is only 30 mins from me, so maybe I will attend one of his engagements. whee!
very, very interesting. clever
and so I am on my way with ll left to find, bye dear babbers
*lol,,,,babblers
afternoon all - any clues for the ar's please

Hi mamma and Kaz
hi hego

Oh please, mine has vermin in it I'm sure.
hi all
hi jmc
Hi JMc
Happy Saturday
i am pleased with today - i have had the official forma for my partial retirement - better figures than i hoped for
Congrats Kazz!
Retirement is great.
Good morning all
Hurray for you!! More time to babble! LOL!
well i will still be working 4 days a week but it less hours and i am looking forward to long weekends
Hi Mr Bob
Morning mr Bob
Nice!
good news indeed kazz
the money i get when i "retire" next month is $0.00
sounds hard to live on, Je.
that's not good jmc - how come?
i can always "fall back" on practicing law! lol
or consult ...
Good to have a back up. lol
when i announced to my family i was going to law school, my great aunt said that was all very well and good but i should have a teaching degree to fall back on!
funny
the nature of the job kazz -- nonprofits put a tiny bit in a retirement account each year and think they are doing well by you
you can always substitute teach - most states simply require you to have a college degree
i suppose i am lucky - i have been in the same job for 33 years and the pension is part of the job
Morning all. Stats for the y please?
lol then my great aunt would have been right that a woman always needs to have teaching or nursing to "fall back" on
yo 4/7
i am still looking for work and i have savings since i live on very little considering how high on the hog i look!
TY, hego.
ty hego
yw
any clues for the ve 7/44?

tx anyway
neither do i but i am looking
any stats for the i please?

jmc all begin ir - think of flattening clothes and take it from ther
4/4 5/10 6/21 5/14
*smack* ty kazz nbt
good for you jmc
vedette
perfect clue Kazz
Hi Bzz
if i only didn't have a mental block against word that begin with vowels! haha
thank hego - but it took me ages to get the last one
And ty

Hi ((mom))
Hi ((Hego))

hi Mom
Hi Kazzer
you may be right. lol
crossy was happy, crossy was typing in words as fast as he could, not looking at the word totals below, not looking at the chog, just typing and the words were flowing...then.... i looked over by mistake and the first thing i saw in the chog was "51 T WORDS!" and here i am..lol good morning everyone
Hi Crossy

It's his lucky day Mom. ;-)

And stop making me hungry!!! ;-)
ty mom
you're welcome
in other words crossy ... you want an old style Quebec farmer heart attack special ... eggs fried in the bacon fat with sausages, home fries, maple syrup and coffee followed by eight hours behind a plough ..
the ar means go away archaicly i think
thanks Molly
Hi Doseffing
Thanks Mama and good morning
you got it dose..but up here we call it "the canadian north woods loggers breakfast"
ar + *** Rogers, cowboy + consonant
eat all that and top trees all day
sounds like full English to me.
past tense for the ar 8
its what grandmother served grandfather
the breakfast.
missing the fried tomato and mashed fry ups for full english
yeah!
Mom, I haven't heard from cos since yesterday. I sent him a msg. at 5:30 AM on my way to work about how I'd looked at his schedule and it looked like there may be time this AM and he should check his schedule to meet up for breakfast today if possible; his response sometime before I got home from work last evening was that that would be perfect and he'd let me know. Still haven't heard yet
ahh nothing so fine and universal as a good brekkie
full english is - bacon, sausage, egg, refried spuds, baked beans, mushrooms, black pudding, toast, oj and tea or coffee and toast
thank you molly
see? kazz knows:))
Nef, I do hope you can meet up. He might be sleeping in
<---- Won't go near black pudding
Crossy, what is black pudding?
local variations can includes hogs pudding or seaweed in wales
theough...black pudding...ewww,thats almost as bad as the blood and tongue saussage my da used to eat
blood saussage molly
you don't want to know, mom
it a pudding made with fat and pigs blood that is boiled and hen you fry it
my da used to eat all that..i could never get past all the blood
and i used to hate it but it can be quite tasty - specially with a fried egg
and do not forget the toast fried in bacon fat
and kippers...ugh
hogs pudding is anoher type of sausage - much thicker and juicier than normal ones - you usually slice it and fry it
ther is nothing wrong with a good kipper
crossy rarely does eggs "english style" like mum used to do for us..i find it too greasy now
you guys are totally grossing me out with the bacon fat thing
though i showed the wife and she looked on in facinated horror
ruru, a staple in our kitchen for 20 years, was a can on the stove to catch bacon drippings for all sorts of cooking
crossy - non sticj frying pan and a little water - ait till the water begins to boil and then cook you eggs like that - there is enough intrinsic fat in an egg to cook it without adding any extra
bacon fat is not as bad for you as butter.
we never saw margerine growing up,and butter was a treat
no different with regard the calories and the saturated ness of it -
though i love to cook my over easys in a dab of butter still kazz;))
we never resorted to bread and lard in our house - my grandpa was a country man and we only ever had butter
Grew u[ in Quebec ... dairy farmers lobby persuaded the provincial government that margarine had to coloured purple ... have never been able to touch the stuff ...
Me too
dose, our original margerine came in waxed paper cubes and was this ugly white yellow and crumbled when you used it
<---- Puts bacon fat in a can to throw it way. Down the drain clogs the pipes.
my da took one look and saud "not in my house" lol
i make my pastry using lard - specially if i am making pasties
God Bless all these d's and e's!
well of course,we all use lard for pie shells etc
sounds wonderful Kazz
you wouldnt thik so crossy to see some cooks in the TV - they use butter for the pastry
anyone have the ca 8?
crisco lard and shortening..nothing else will do
it's the French way Kazz
Drew with wax colored sticks Ru
it dont make nice firm pastry though - you need it for pasties
Skip that, it's the cr
No, very flaky
ca 8 - orange colour in orange veg
ty Molly
and Kazz
ty kazz
ty molly
off to the list
thanks kazz
all that talk of fry ups, bacon, lard and grease has made crossy hungry...;))
YES!
has me as well and i have had lunch as well!
*note to self.. bring lipitor to the PB for crossy*
and i have a fresh pack of cheese english muffies just sitting in da kitchen
Halfway. Good bye for now. Eat hearty me lads. ;_D
by hego
either that or the chemical spray on the veggies will kill me off ruru
i knew it was getting strange when i saw a brociflower last week in the store..mutant veggies!
how about brocflowers deep fried in bacon fat wrapped in bacon and cheddar cheese
*applies cpr to crossie*
he'd probably take one and throw out the veggie in the middle, eat the rest
hi d
hi. we have beautiful summer like weather here today, after lots of rain. i want to get to half way, then slather myself with sunscreen, grab the new ann patchett book and run to the lake and hide from the mess around my house

I was pretty awesome last Sunday.. but I still got beaten
I just like playing.. I don't have to win
that is the best attitude. rare, but admirable
I just like to play well
you don't get mad at yourself when you have an off game though, do you?
of course the last game.. the guy I was playing with was pounding serves in.. blew me off the court
I do get upset.. when I suck at it.. I do try hard to play smart and well..but not everyday is your day
that is a sane outlook. so, what is mrs. ru getting for breakfast?
missing one D dang
scrambled eggs and ginger scones.. simple
i'm missing many d's, doubt that i have the one you want
and cappucino
i just had watermelon with feta, fresh mint and aged balsamic vinegar. i think i need more though
oh.. that sounds interesting
I have the best aged balsamic
Villa Mandori.. have you had it?
had it once in a restaurant and it really tasted good.. now i rarely can eat plain watermelon without wanting it.
it sounds delish
no... is it $40 an ounce or something? they can get so pricey, the best would be nice to try
no. t
not that expensive
<--- Is horrified at the idea of vinegar on watermelon : O
Hi ((Dorens))
oh molly get real
need to scroll back to see what black pudding is. I got side tracked.
balsamic isn't like real vinegar
Don't do it Mom. Blech.
hi folks .. sounds deelish, molly! i love a blood orange and onion salad with olive oil and balsamic
black pudding?
ok i will half to look for it. Hi ((mom)) and molly. balsamic, particularly aged, is sweet and complex. wonderful. black pudding is.... well.... not.
It's worse than scrapple

Me too Nef. I don't turn on chat until I have the long words, nbt and nbs. Too many unasked for clues get thrown out.

NBT is no blank tile. NBS is no blank stats. Have at least one word for each category.
PB is penalty box. you get put there for using a grid word in the chat. Someone usually stocks it with food.
Thank you!
there is a platter of blt,s and a big pitcher of pink lemonade in the pb at the moment
hi ewenme. Welcome to chat. Being sent tot he PB is sometimes a treat. FMitch came up with pictures of the PB a long time ago; since then it has a pool, cabana boys, and a lot of other fun stuff there (it's always well-stocked with "choclit" too!) :-)

Hello all. Any quilters or crafty people here?
Actually, looking at the chat, anyone here at all?
I'm here hi red
I'm a quitter, and very crafty :)
I do some crafts. Do you have a question?
I do! yay thanks Mridang and Wild.
I am making the quilt in my profile for an infant, who is due in december, and I should remind I live in Florida so it never gets that cold....I was thinking about
doing the front with 100% cotton, but maybe doing the backing of the quilt in a flannel, so it would be soft.
that is beautiful. good for you!
Is that strange? will it work? I am not an experienced quilter.
I've never seen flannel on a quilt. I would go with cotton all around. It will soften up when washed.
clue for the ca8 please
My Mom made me several flannel ones, and htey were great in winter, she says they are hard to stitch...Mrldang?
my SIL makes all baby quilts with flanel on the back so it is soft for the baby. Just make sure it has been preshrunk before you use it Red
Hi Bugs, does she use flannel only on the front too, or regular cotton?
wild if i had the ca 8 I'd give to you.
regular cotton on the front but as long as everything is prewashed, it works out.
OK, I feel better, though mrldang is not weighing in...
monkeyed it NM
ca8 is the chemical that makes you turn orange if you eat too many orange veggies
thanks bugs! to the rescue!
Ok I am off, I am ordering fabric...
I wonder why my icon changed back to the one before the celtic cross I put up last night?
when I click your icon, I see the cross, when I look in the chog, I see flames...
weird.........
that quilt looks like a lot of work Red. well done
I love quilts. I spent years sleeping under puffy comforters. I was SO GLAD when I went back to sleeping under quilts.
I don't have the patience to make quilts but my DIL likes to do all the quilting by hand. She finds it soothing!
ad8?

caused by the malaria, hego
Oh, I just read wild's explanation. So sad.

Good weekend All.
you have a good weekend also hego
ty Bye
cya
hi all
hello. can't sleep so I ate an egg and came down here to see who's around
(((Ruby)))
{{molly}}
if I had to pick one food, it would probably be an egg, especially with whole wheat bread and sea salt butter
what's your comfort food, molly?
Hi RUby!
I like eggs too...especially on toast.
me too
eggs and when I am sick, soft boiled eggs
with a runny yolk and salty butter
oh yes, soft-boiled
oh yes...
I prefer rye bread or pumpernickle though.
it used to be Creme of Wheat but it's not available in Europe
can't get decent bread here
cream*
oatmeal on a cold morning
I find that hard to believe ruby, but I guess it is true. Wow. In france, you would think bread and cheese...would be always fabulous.
Oh eggs is on my list of comfort foods. And yes, runny yolk and salty butter. Then there is macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, a baked potato, oatmeal loaded with cinnamon, raisins and brown sugar...the list goes on and on. Even toast can be a comfort food for me.
I used to eat oatmeal with brown sugar, butter and sweet cream but suddenly, at age 64 I developed a severe allergy to it
mac and cheese. Yum.
I am warming up crabcakes for dinner.
<-- loves crabcakes. no crab here
Maryland girls love anything that involves crab.
that I believe!
mac and cheese, omg
I even have food that brings wonderful memories like potatoe pancakes
did you ever have she-crab soup?
with apple sauce
potato pancakes.
I like really bland food
ok, I am getting more hungry.
potato pancakes with sour cream
I've had every kind of crab soup there is.
latka
I was just going to say, I thought they were called latkes. They are good with sour cream.
when I lived in Princeton, one time the janitor brought me a huge paper bag full of blue crab. I called over my best friend and a close Jesuit friend and the 3 of us covered the table with newspaper, opened a good bottle of French white and it was one of my most memorable meals
latkes, yes
(my first husband was at some conference or other at the time)
yes ruby, so foods are like songs, they take you back to a wonderful time or sometimes sad times
HHi, all, babbling on my phone :-)
in the Jewish, food means a lot
that's certainly true but my mother, although Jewish, was an Italian food specialist! \Go figure
me too ruby
I never learned Jewish, but I can make mean Italian ziti's
being raised in NY, NY, you learn so many different foods
did you see the funny article published by a Sephardic Jewish rabbi in Israel that Kate Middleton's whole maternal side is Jewish? Hilariously funny to me
here in NC, most people just look at me funny when I name a food that isnt fried
my mother made the best lasagna (ingredients unavailable here) and veal Parmagiano
no
this husband just likes spicy food, so I cook separate meals most of the time or just skip meals altogether
meals are no longer fun around here and the restaurants are awful
clue for bottom A for nbt pls
Eating crabs with friends is always a fun and memorable meal.
A + de4.6
ad875 with the big letter in 4th place, meaning sufficient ability
Guys who sell stuff for a living, via print or commercials
ty sue
I used to eat lobster until the last one I cooked cried out and tried to get out of the pot. I just sat and cried and couldn't eat her
ty for the ad5, I didn't have that one
Thx, molly, how did I miss that?
Ruby, I can't cook crabs or lobster. I feel to inhuman. I know what you mean about the sound. It's awful.
I once tried to cook live soft shell crabs and kept having to re-cover the pot as they were pushing the lid off
not getting the ad8
I love to eat lobster though, so I just put the thought of the way they are cooked right out of my lobster loving self.
as I grow older, I understand vegetarianism more and more but then get the occasional wild craving for meat
I love lobster, but I think crab legs have more flavor
it rhymes with the American system sort of
especially liver
ad 8...lemon and lime drinks end with *** + a duck ****ks + sometimes vowel
Oh gross, I can't abide liver.
and the 4th letter is a big score letter?
I wouldn't eat it until I grew up except chopped. I make an aunt's old recipe with friend onions and hardboiled eggs and chicken fat
love broiled livers with onion
here in the south they fry it, yuck
and chopped liver
my mother used to make it taste like shoe leather so I couldn't eat it
with breading sue?
lol
here they call it Liver Mush, yuck.
ruby
I LEARNED TO LIKE IT BY EATING IN A gREEK DINER NEAR WHERE i WORKED IN mIAMI
OH, EVEN i MIGHT NOT EAT THAT.....
whoops, didn't mean to shout
miami is the place to love liver
why?
but liver mush is like a patti, and then they tell you to cook it until you can put it on the bottom of a shoe and walk on it
I loved Miami, but mainly miss the food and the ocean
because it is broiled and moist
sounds like mom's home cooking
I had better go back to bed or husband will come after me, so good night sue and molly, if you're here
wait, ad8 pls
ok lemon a** + bit letter + end of american system (democr***)
big letter*
(I think it means being able to get half way and nbt but not finishing....)
Did my clue at 4:31 not make sense?
did you find it? I feel responsible now
i did
ty

ty flosey
hi sue.

I am sorry no clue, I have 84 left, and mostly 7's but now I have a celtic knot thing.

One is meat and the other is luggage.
hi everyone just got back from work can i have some clues for the 2ca40s and the ca32 please
cant find the ca7
argggg
Hint for the ça7/40 that isn't luggage?
No problem Flo, I just didn't want people to be searching for a "sounds like" of the wrong ca word. Been there, done that.
yes Molly, so confusing!
What that orange tuber vegetable is like
it is meat that say tuley buzzards eat.
Add a sometimes vowel
add sometimes vowel to vegetable uusue
Oh Oh Sorry. wrong one.
last ca7/40 - same as ca5/16 + not off
Nope, that is 7/32 Red
yes, I just realized that.
Silly word
I blame it on the fact that my dinner is still cooking and I am very hungry after convo about comfot foods...
Sorry, chat is moving too fast for me. And yes Sue, silly, dumb word.
ca7/40, last one, as in the luggage you can take on the plane with you
And Thx for it, shirl!
thanks flosey
But that is two words. Enable blunders once again.

This game reminds me TangleworD, used to be at playsite ages ago..there were various size of boards (4X4, 5X5, 6X6) there.. but, they closed the site (i don'k know why). it was included at iwin.com game menu for a while.. but then it totally disappeared..
ve7?
ve7 - French term for mounted sentry
Or...for the non-French speakers...v + Mr. ** the horse + a major**** marches with the marching band.
thx for the clues for the ve
Navies use the term ve7 to refer to a small scouting or patrol boat. (originally a French word)
Obscure words like ve7 make me wonder why I even bother with these grids.
They expand the mind. You never know when it will come up in conversation.
did you play tangle omer?
am with you there Molly, but too tired and achey to do anything else
Or in a bar trivia game.
lol, if you remember it BZZ
omer - there is a game called Serpentine on Cobra Dragon Games that is very similar. a lot of the old tanglers are on that
once youve had the words a couple of times you seem to remember them and you get better and better
Funny the trivial things I remember.
58 left and getting tired ive still got 7 7s to find
yes, wildcat.. about 5 years (i dont even remember when i started it.. probably between 1998-2003.. that was a lot fun :)
you should go to cobra ... http://games.cobradragon.com
written by a former tangler
what was your name on Tangle, omer?
mine was the same as on here
I remember getting the term "jacquard" correct in a pub quiz and every one thought I was a genius.
i was wildcat there too
a lot of the same people are on there - cribmum, hogsballs, nslaweare, mamamary, etc. etc
If they only knew...
Bea, I'll be sure and let you know if ve7 ever comes up in conversation. My money is on never.
You need to hang out with more sailors, Molly. <grin>
Hugs to tired, achy Flosey.
I'm a Coast Guard brat Bea, I have done my time with men who sail the sea.
LOL! Then I'm sure you have Molly.
Dinner!
ah, thanks Molly - was at the Market in the Park from 8am to 11:30 - selling great coffee, fair trade, etc. comes from Nicarauga
had been raining, so was a bit damp, but not the vendors, a happy lot
Sounds like hard work that smelled good Flosey.
My nick was Omer there as well.. i only remember the 6X6'ers nicks.. such as lildarling, kai, twinsmom,... woww i don't remember the nicks...it was 10 years ago..
clue for the ar 6 and 8 please
Thank you wildcat, i will try that site..

have not heard of that breed
french for butterfly, note the ears
ours was golden ret. and became very loving and great guard dog - wouldn't let a stranger come near me, stood by the person until I said it was ok
Now that word, I know because of the movie.
I remember that movie, with Steve McQueen
Hello everybody. Jeff, I only know Papillion because of that great Dustin hoffman movie!

you are so right Jeff!! I always tell him he's too smart for his britches:)
yes its pretty bad when we have to spell to keep her from understanding what we are saying and now she has learned some spelled words!
words we spell
<------ Green with envy! Poor old Daisy (mongrel) is as thick as two short planks!
even worse when the dog learns to spell

By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
hi minver
whoooo hooooo DAN!!
hi min, hi sue
I am looking for an e reader that I can do my playbabble on
hi Min
it would be better to buy a netbook or tablet to do that, sue
I want to be able to use a keyboard with
I know, but I cant spend more then 300
I don't know of any e-readers that will do that
sorry Sue, my knowledge in these matters is less than useless
BBS
have you looked at the I-Pad
netbooks will let you do it, and there are several under 300
there is the cruz, but i've heard nothing but negatives about that reader.
hey all
i just bought the acer transformer tab and can send details if needed...it rocks!!!!
I think you can surf the web on a nook
hi gobias
and i also have 3 different e-readers and can advise
Hello Gobias! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Thanks Min
Hello crosshair! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
getting a late start tonight
the best e-reader for browsing the web is the new nook colour touch..but they are only avail in the states so you have to be creative to get one if you are not from the planet USA lol
howdy min
I sort of got a late start. I got 100 words at the flip, but then got back here late to finish. Not sure if I will
the best reader for international use is a sony reader
if you live in the good ole usa a kindle will work, but it does not do e-pub files;(((
as for i-pads..do not get me started lol
I take it you don't like i-pads???
i would not buy an i-pad even if they had them for 50 dollars lol
I actually downloaded the nook app for my android phone, but haven't really had a chance to use it
and I'm also not a fan of the ipad, or iphone :)
my transformer tab is running an android os;))
I love my nook. I don't browse the web though. Just download books and read
i also live my nook, the mrs has a sony touch
if you need any books doxy, just e mail me..i have over 400 title and a complete book list
hi folks
hi welki
my hubby suggested I get the brand new nook, he would then use mine for playing sudoku.
howdy welki
hi welki
he is right, the new nook colour touch is amazing!
Hello welki! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
i would be totally lost without my reader
I take it with me everywhere. Fits perfect in my purse
but enough of me going on.if anyone wants reader ot tablet info you can ask or get me at p.a.melbourne@gmail.com
awwww ... our young man is in the grid today. miss him.
hi, welki
hey dawg
been out teaching worms how to swim lately?
yep, went out to the lake yesterday, caught some ... rained all night, all day today, so we headed back home
rivers and streams are running too high and fast here for any good fishing.
i broke my favorite fishing rod a couple of weeks ago ... good reason to buy a new one
oh river fishing is out of the question here .. advisories all over the place, flooding rampant. you'd think folks would know to stay away (but they don't)
how sad, but yup, a good reason to Upgrade! lol
the water's so friggin' dirty and filled with floating debris, you'd be nuts to take a chance
about the rod, i even called the manufacturer, but they sold the last one in 2006
stay away from moving water...heck they don't even do that when the roads are awash
maybe you can find a twin on ebay?
what gets me is that people are 'outraged' that they're being policed .. but every time the rivers run high here, there are always rescues and, unfortunately, recoveries
i tried, dawg .. none to be had
i'll get used to the new one. i received a new spinning reel for my birthday, so the two make a nice pair ... going to take some getting used to, though.
and maybe, just maybe, the rivers will be better in a couple of weeks for my vacation ... and then a-flyfishin' i will go :)
where you planning to vacation?
low budget this year .. at first, was thinking about heading down your way, but that involves $$$ gas and an out of town fishing license x2
went back east in may to see the kids ... so probably will just stay close to home, up at the lake and maybe a day or two south, near crowsnest pass
either of those places will be nice to spend time casting and retrieving. :)
firewords
wtg wildcat
just made up a lovely ve word ... my version of the plural of ve**etta ... ve**etti :)
hey wild
hi welk
what happened to you, wild? sounds like you had quite the night!
it was an all-day thing. first went to my daughter's which is 70 miles away to fix her car. then once home was moving the rest of my son's stuff to his new apt when he called to tell me he'd broken his wrist playing basketball. got to take him to urgent care and everything. got home around midnight
dawg, we have good times where ever we end up. although different scenery is nice, it's about what you bring to the place, not the location (will make that my mantra in july *lol*)
but wild .. things are calmer now?
Fireworks
yes! car is fixed, boy's arm is splinted.
oi! Wild. hope son is okay.
whoooo hoooo DOXY!!
to complicate matters I brought my daughter's dog home with me cuz she's going away next week and it made sense to do it while I was there
whew. glad everyone is okay ... and thankful that they have YOU around!
wtg doxy
ty. his wrist is broken, but it's a clean break and won't require surgery to repair
ty. I hope they are VERY grateful
it's times like these that make me question why I gave birth to four of them
welki, your vacation plans sound wonderful to me
evening all :)
<<wants to go on vacation with welki
probably because it really would have been quite the burden to carry them this long :)
hi jes
LOL welk!
wild, you come up anytime. have you been up to my neck of the woods?
lol Wild and Welki. Hi jes
hi, jess

hi felic!
Hello mfelicia! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
welcome and we will be glad to help
thank you :)
***hugs and kisses*** to une!!
hi nonnie! :))
do i have a flag like you guys?
about nano - it is a prefix, not a word on its own, which is why it doesn't appear in the dictionary (just reading back in the chog)
hi there UU sue
you have to go pro felic
hi, gwen!
you get a flag if you pony up a one-time fee -- is it still $15?
No, felicia. If you subscribe to the site you will.
ok, i see
you're an aussie like me!
I think so, gwen - a real bargain!!
Do you still only see the stats for two weeks without going pro?
and at the bottom of the grid in friends of Babble, is Lickety's Babble Clues... that helps too
felicia, if you click on the "help" icon above it will give you some general instructions on how to play the game and find words in the grid
I think that's right, nonnie
and you get pro status, you will get the tile stats and word stats (you get them free for a week or so, then they are gone), you get a pink or blue headshot, and what else?
terri1 was cut off after a few days from tile states
ok, thank you
stats even
you get to make your own icon and profile, which can be short or long (some of us are very wordy :-)
Best $15 I have ever spent.
i think i'm liking this so far
in my day, it was $24.00... now it is only $14.50
nad the biggest plus is you get to make great friends
hi saddy!! **hugs**
